Not long after that, though, adulthood came crashing down because Emily was born, and all of a sudden, I realized that I was responsible for another human being. That made me sit up and take notice. My BFF Susan and I were talking a few months ago – OK, it was probably a couple of years ago, but who can remember, because they’re all running together at this point – about how we both felt as if we were much younger than our mothers when they were our age (we share the same age), whatever it was at the time.)
