https://www.sj-r.com/news/20200527/langfelder-police-chief-served-with-cease-and-desist-notices-by-fox-run-lawyer
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A day after a Springfield restaurant received a cease-and-desist notice for defying Gov. JB Pritzker’s stay-at-home order, an attorney representing the restaurant and two other local businesses that opened early has returned the favor to Mayor Jim Langfelder and Police Chief Kenny Winslow. Thomas DeVore, an attorney representing Fox Run Restaurant, Bow and Arrow Salon and FitBodies, said he is “putting the City of Springfield on notice to cease and desist with any further efforts to violate my client’s civil rights” through enforcement of Pritzker’s order. The notice comes a day after Fox Run itself was served with a cease-and-desist notice from the Springfield Police Department, which informed the owners that failure to comply could result in the restaurant’s closure by the local or state health department or civil liability.)

FOX BUSINESS
— TRAGIC, DISGUSTING: Who is more likely to smoke marijuana? – Daniella Genovese
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/more-likely-smoke-marijuana-194842942.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: According to a July 2019 poll from Gallup, which surveyed 1,525 adults across the nation who were at least 18 years old, the likelihood of someone smoking marijuana “varies significantly” by gender, age, region and political ideology. Overall, the survey indicated that adults between 18 to 29 years old are the age group most likely to smoke marijuana. According to the findings, 22 percent of 18- to 29-year-olds revealed they smoked, which makes them twice as likely to smoke compared to adults from 30-49 years old and seven times as likely as adults older than 65 years old. Eleven percent of adults from 30-49 years admitted to smoking and 12 percent of people ages 50 to 64 do. Meanwhile, only three percent of people over the age of 65 admitted to smoking. . .Aside from age, the results also revealed that men are twice as likely to smoke marijuana than women. Additionally, liberals are six times more likely to smoke than conservatives and twice as likely as moderates, according to the findings.)

— Public service and the federal government – Fiona Hill (DIERSEN: Who looks down on you? From what I see, ever-increasingly, Republicans look down on federal employees and look down on federal retirees. I was a federal employee for almost 30 years and I have been a federal retiree for almost 23 years.)
https://www.brookings.edu/policy2020/votervital/public-service-and-the-federal-government/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Popular appreciation of and respect for government service and public servants have steadily declined in the United States since the 1960s, with only two brief exceptions: in the 1990s during the Clinton administration, and in the months immediately after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. There is a particularly deep sense of distrust in the U.S. federal government. In an April 2019 Pew Research Center poll, for example, only 17% of respondents indicated that they trusted the federal government “to do the right thing.” Why is this the case? While there is significant support for the vital functions public servants perform at the local and state levels, and during crises, deeply entrenched misconceptions about the U.S. federal government and its individual agencies shape more negative views. For example, the opinion that the U.S. government is vast and unwieldly is widespread outside the public sector. The U.S. population has been evenly split for several years in its views on the optimal size of the U.S. government—with 47% of those polled by Pew in 2019 seeing government as either too big or too small. The two perspectives reveal a sharp partisan divide. Sixty-seven percent of those who affiliate with the Democratic Party express support for the expansion of government services. On the “too big” side of the ledger, 74% of those who describe themselves as Republicans want to see the government shrink in both size and functions. Newspaper and opinion page headlines such as “The sheer size of our government workforce is an alarming problem” encapsulate this view.)

I would focus on those who have lots of religious, government, political, and/or financial clout in Wheaton’s West District, Wheaton, Milton Township, DuPage County, and Illinois. — What is China’s social credit system? – Bradford Betz (DIERSEN: What if America, Illinois, your county, your township, your municipality, and your municipal district had social credit systems? What would cost people points – being a Trump supporter, Protestant, conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, older, obese, non-healthy, non-poor, gun owner, German American, draft avoider, and/or if your ancestors have been in America for a long time?  What would put people on blacklists – opposing the promotion of dependency on government, dependency on charity, LGBTQ activity, abortion, mass/illegal immigration, abolition of the First and Second Amendments, booze, gambling, pot, and other vices, patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation for opposing the aforesaid?)

https://www.foxnews.com/world/what-is-china-social-credit-system

(FROM THE ARTICLE: China’s social credit system is a government program being implemented nationwide to regulate its citizens’ behavior based on a point system. Under this system, citizens are ranked in different areas of civil life using data collected from court documents, government or corporate records, and in some cases, citizen observers. Citizens with higher scores have had an easier time getting bank loans, free medical checkups and discounts on heating. Points have been deducted for traffic violations, selling faulty products or defaulting on loan payments. In some cases, people with bad social credit scores have been barred from buying airline or train tickets. Other infractions have included smoking in non-smoking zones, buying – or playing – too many video games and posting false news stories online, Business Insider reported. People failing to comply have been placed on so-called “blacklists,” which companies may reference when considering potential employees. In other cases, students may be denied entry into universities because of their parents’ bad social credit scores. China’s State Council first introduced the plan in June 2014. The council announced the system would “allow the trustworthy to roam everywhere under heaven while making it hard for the discredited to take a single step.” At first, officials implemented the system gradually in different cities. It was expected to go nationwide this year, but has been delayed amid the coronavirus pandemic.)

https://www.latimes.com/business/story/2020-05-22/coronavirus-reopening-preexisting-conditions-seniors-older-workers
(FROM THE ARTICLE: With some 39 million Americans filing jobless claims since the pandemic broke out and fears growing of another Great Depression, getting workplaces open has become a priority. That’s a tricky proposition as the number of coronavirus cases and deaths mount, even if the rate of transmission slows in some places. But for workers especially vulnerable to complications from COVID-19, a return to work can feel like a death sentence. That’s not a small group. Some 41 million Americans ages 18 to 64 are at risk for serious complications from COVID-19 due to underlying conditions such as diabetes, uncontrolled asthma and heart disease, according to a Kaiser Family Foundation analysis. Also at risk are Americans 65 and older, about 10.4 million of whom remain in the workforce — an age group that accounts for 80% of U.S. COVID deaths. . .While federal law provides special protections for workers who have disabilities or are older, ultimately they can be recalled to the workplace, even if it can’t be made 100% safe. And should employers try to prevent certain employees from returning to their jobs, they could face discrimination claims from older workers and disabled workers. . .Workers who are diabetic or asthmatic or have other conditions that are considered disabilities are offered special protections by the Americans with Disabilities Act, which requires employers to provide so-called “reasonable accommodations” as needed. The Age Discrimination in Employment Act offers workers older than 40 protections against discrimination on the basis of their age. Questions linger about whether and how such protections will shield workers who are older or have medical conditions in the time of the coronavirus. “It’s definitely a minefield for employers,” said Walter Stella, a labor and employment attorney at Cozen O’Connor, which represents employers. “The traditional reasonable accommodation analysis requires employers to accommodate disabled employees so that they can continue to perform the essential functions of their jobs. The focus of the law is not to give employees a reasonable accommodation so that they don’t get the coronavirus.” That legal analysis rubs up against the demands of employee advocates who say that providing a safe workplace is the fundamental duty of employers amid the pandemic.)

— When a 20% salary cut isn’t a 20% salary cut Insurance giant Aon says workers who quit over the hefty pay reduction won’t get severance. – STEVE DANIELS (DIERSEN: Have you suffered a pay cut? GAO audits IRS. I took a 21% pay cut in 1980 to transfer from IRS to GAO. In today’s dollars, that was $20,157/year pay cut. In today’s dollars, my GS-12 Step 5 IRS salary was $96,431/year and my GS-9 Step 10 GAO salary was only $76,274/year. Of course, ever since then, my critics/opponents have used that against me. They hint/imply/argue/shout a) that IRS had overpaid me and b) that GAO viewed me and my almost 9 years of IRS work experience, that last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels (currently $85,084-$96,431/year) was worthless. Much of what GAO Analysts do is similar to what IRS Revenue Officers do. If I had been a Democrat, minority, female, and/or veteran, GAO would not have required me to suffer a pay cut to transfer. I had almost completed the requirements for a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul. I had passed the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979. I had earned an MBA from Loyola in 1976.)

https://amgreatness.com/2020/05/11/is-obamas-long-history-of-playing-dirty-finally-catching-up-with-him/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Obama’s pathway to winning the Illinois U.S. Senate seat in 2004 was cleared after divorce records of his Democratic primary opponent, who had been in the lead, were made public just weeks before the election. After Obama won the primary, the Chicago Tribune sued to get the divorce settlement of Jack Ryan, Obama’s Republican opponent, unsealed. GAO analysts do much of what journalist do including interviewing, gathering facts, summarizing facts, analyzing facts, and writing reports. GAO Analysts develop recommendations to improve government operations.)
https://www.usnews.com/education/best-colleges/journalism-major-overview
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A JOURNALISM MAJOR studies how to report, write and distribute news to a particular audience. Journalism majors learn how to research and interview and then communicate the information they uncover with clarity and accuracy. Not long ago, most journalism programs gave students the choice between print or broadcast tracks. Today, many programs have adapted with the changing news industry and consolidated skills into a single track to teach writing and reporting for all mediums. Depending on the school and program, students are still able to specialize in areas like broadcast, data, investigative or political journalism. Students with a natural curiosity, a desire to communicate truth, and an interest in researching, interviewing and storytelling should consider a major in journalism.)

— What’s next for central Illinois under the reopening plan? – Doug Finke (DIERSEN: Who exactly determines when regions can move to Phase 3?)
https://www.sj-r.com/news/20200506/whats-next-for-central-illinois-under-reopening-plan
(FROM THE ARTICLE: That region, like all of Illinois, is now considered to be in Phase 2 of the five phase plan. Under the plan, that means the spread of the virus is considered “flattening.” That’s an improvement over the initial stage of the virus which was considered “rapid spread.” The next several weeks will be critical in determining if the central region can move on to the next phase, which the plan calls “recovery.” In order to move on, the region must show no more than a 20 percent positivity rate on COVID-19 tests conducted in the region. They must also not increase by more than 10 percentage points. Along with that, there can be no overall increase in hospital admissions for COVID-19 for 28 days and at least 14 percent of intensive care unit beds, medical and surgical beds and ventilators must be available in case there is a surge. Testing must be available for all patients, health care workers, first responders, people with underlying conditions and residents and staff in congregate living facilities. Finally, the region has to begin contact tracing to track people who have been in contact with coronavirus patients. If a region can meet all of those criteria some additional restriction will be removed. People will still have to wear facing coverings in places where social distancing can’t be maintained. However, manufacturing, offices, retail, barbershops can reopen, as long as capacity limits and other safety precautions are observed. If additional progress if made for another 28 days, additional restrictions can be removed, including allowing larger gatherings and allowing restaurants and bars to reopen.)

If you are a conservative, what leverage do the following have over you: those who paint themselves as being conservative leaders in Illinois, in your country, in your township, in your municipality, and in your municipal district. The legislature also could establish an independent advisory commission that would draw maps for approval by state legislators, she said. Moving forward is largely up to Illinois’ legislative leaders, Doubek said. There’s also the concern that the shortened legislative session because of COVID-19 will limit action to issues like the budget and the pandemic, she said. “We still need as much support for pushing these improvements as much as possible,” she said.)

https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/495886-covid-19s-class-divide-creates-new-political-risks
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The COVID-19 outbreak ravaging the United States is exacerbating the nation’s class divide, closing small businesses and bankrupting households while many in the nation’s elite emerge relatively unscathed. The disparity was highlighted in April when stock markets enjoyed a banner month even as 22 million people were added to the unemployment rolls. It is a divide that has political ramifications for both parties, but especially so for Republicans, who hold the White House and the Senate majority. . .The disease itself has hit poor and minority communities disproportionately. One study showed 80 percent of hospitalized coronavirus patients in Georgia were black. Darrell West, director of governance studies at the Brookings Institution, said the last time a national crisis so highlighted wealth disparities in the United States was the Great Depression, when unemployment hit a peak of 24.9 percent.)

— Gov Pritzker’s Press Secretary, Jordan Abudayyeh, picking winners and losers in access – JOHN KRAFT (DIERSEN: I have been the GOPUSA Illinois Editor since 2000. I should write a book about how activists, candidates, elected officials, party leaders, major donors, political consultants, etc. have treated me since 2000. I would focus on the aforesaid who pant themselves as being religious, conservative, and/or Republican and who blame me and blame my GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails for their problems, for your problems, for my problems, and for everyone’s problems.)
https://edgarcountywatchdogs.com/2020/04/gov-pritzkers-press-secretary-jordan-abudayyeh-picking-winners-and-losers-in-access/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Three times this week we have asked the Governor’s Press Secretary, Jordan Abudayyeh, to add us to the list of Media receiving those login credentials. As has been the norm for the past couple of months, Abudayyeh hasn’t even bothered to acknowledge a question or request that has been sent to her. She hasn’t added us to the daily email blast either. We believe either Governor Pritzker or Jordan Abudayyeh are purposely restricting access to this question submitting process and wonder why Abudayyeh would take these steps to infringe on the free speech and equal access rights of reporters, and their ability to ask text questions alongside other reporters within and without the State of Illinois. Denial of access cannot be tolerated and we urge Governor Pritzker to direct his Press Secretary to honor all requests for login credentials.)
