CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
— Hundreds sign petition to get Holocaust denier back on ballot, but voters say they were in the dark   The Illinois Republican Party says it’s stepping up efforts to make voters aware that Arthur Jones is once again a candidate for the U.S. Congress. – Tina Sfondeles (DIERSEN: What if ONLY elected precinct committeemen were allowed to circulate candidate nominating petitions, and further, what if they were ONLY allowed to circulate nominating petitions in their own precinct? For the March 17, 2020 Republican primary, in your precinct, how many signatures on how many petitions did your Republican Precinct Committeeman gather for how many candidates from how many Republican voters in how many homes? I gathered 593 signatures on 60 petitions (3 for each of 20 candidates) from 30 Republican voters in 17 homes in my DuPage County Milton Township Precinct 9 in Wheaton. I had to contact Republicans in 59 homes in my precinct to do that. Those 20 candidates are: U.S. President/Vice President – Donald Trump/Mike Pence and Delegates; U.S. Senate – Mark Curran; U.S. Representative – Jeanne Ives and Jay Kinzler; State Representative – Amy Grant; DuPage State’s Attorney – Robert Berlin; DuPage Circuit Court Clerk – Christopher Kachiroubas; DuPage County Auditor – Robert Grogan; DuPage Coroner – Richard Jorgensen; DuPage Recorder – Ronald Almiron and Babette Holder; DuPage County Board – Timothy Elliott; DuPage Forest Preserve Commissioner – Timothy Whelan; DuPage Circuit Court Judge – Ann Celine Walsh, Monique O’Toole, James McCluskey, and Rick Veenstra, and Richard Felice; and Republican Precinct Committeeman – Dave Diersen)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Records show Jones collected 844 signatures in Palos Hills, Hickory Hills, Stickney, Oak Lawn, Bridgeview, Worth, Countryside, Bedford Park, La Grange, Chicago Ridge, Hometown, Lyons and Willow Springs. Just over 600 signatures were required to get on the ballot. He also managed to get one Chicago voter to sign his petitions after not getting any signatures in the city in 2018. . .Awareness campaign Illinois Republican Party executive director Anthony Sarros said the party is planning an awareness campaign that could include digital advertising, Facebook ads or mailers ahead of the primary, to outline Jones’ beliefs and remind voters that there are two other Republicans running. “We want to make sure that the Republicans, Democrats, any Illinois citizens know that this is not a candidate that we support and we don’t want him winning the election,” Sarros said. “ … We hate this. we don’t want this to happen and now I kind of want to know how this happened and how do we prevent this.” An attorney for the state party and a representative from Lipinski’s campaign are among 10 people who requested to review Jones’ 844 petitions. But the party says nearly 87% of his signatures were valid, and no one challenged his right to appear on the ballot. In total, 217 of those who signed identified as independent voters. Another 118 were “hard Democrats” — those who have voted Democrat in two or more of the last four primary elections — and 111 were “hard Republicans” — those who have voted Republican the same amount. Another 68 had voted in both party’s primaries. “The deeper story to this is just people who signed a petition for an old gentleman not knowing who he was, what he supported and not knowing what he was running for,” Sarros said. “It’s unfortunate these folks are signing this petition. I’m sure he didn’t advertise who he was because he was able to get all of these signatures.” ‘I had no idea’ Some of those who signed his petitions confirmed in interviews with the Sun-Times they didn’t know Jones’ background.)

Bernie Sanders “The millennial generation (those born between 1982 and 2000) might not have the same opportunity as previous generations had to fare better economically than their parents,” the GAO report states. “Millennial households had significantly lower median and average net worth than Generation X households at similar ages.”)

— St. Clair County plans to increase spending and tax revenue. How will it affect you? – KAVAHN MANSOURI (DIERSEN: Today, I received a notice from the DuPage County Supervisor of Assessments that the assessed valuation for my home at 915 Cove Court in Wheaton has been increased by 4.75%. Sadly, I doubt very much that I could sell the home for its new $515,750 “implied fair market value.)
https://www.bnd.com/news/politics-government/article238043234.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: From 2017 to 2018, the county’s equalized assessed valuation, or the assessed value of all property, increased by about $5.1 million, or by roughly 3.17 percent. The county budget is partially designed around what officials expect to collect through property taxes. According to the St. Clair County treasurer’s office, the property tax cycle is a two-year cycle. Over the first year, the property is assigned a value reflecting its value as of Jan. 1. The tax bills are then calculated mailed and payments are distributed in the following year. Evaluation and collecting property taxes is a six-step process, starting with assessment and ending with collection.)

— “Demand Justice” targets Federalist Society over Kavanaugh – AP
https://www.riverbender.com/sports-news/details.cfm?id=287069
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Sponsored by Demand Justice, the ads target a half dozen prominent firms that sponsored the dinner, such as Kirkland & Ellis, where Kavanaugh served as a partner, as well as Sullivan & Cromwell, WilmerHale and Consovoy McCarthy, where a senior partner was recently confirmed as a federal appellate judge. The bare-knuckle ads are a rarity in the city’s genteel legal world and an example of the increasing toxicity of the political debate over Trump’s judicial nominees. Demand Justice says the ads are the beginning of a sustained campaign “to hold accountable” people who help the Federalist Society “rehabilitate a sexual predator and attack the rule of law.’’ The Federalist Society declined to comment. Carrie Severino, a longtime Federalist Society member and policy director of the conservative Judicial Crisis Network, called criticism by Demand Justice and other liberal groups a badge of honor. The Federalist group “is a successful network of conservatives and conservative lawyers that are very effective,’’ Severino said. Liberal critics “don’t like that,” she added.)

My Democrat GAO superiors succeeded in getting rid of the GAO manager who hired me in 1980, got me assigned to audits of IRS in 1986, and promoted me in 1986.)
https://www.beltwaybreakfast.com/whitehouse/2019/11/25/trump-administration-and-its-enablers-attempt-to-smear-civil-servants-not-political-holdovers/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The attempt to smear these nonpartisan civil servants is part of a long-running attempt by Trump and his allies to delegitimize the entire concept of a non-partisan civil service. It’s a project that stems both from Trump’s obsession with loyalty combined with his misguided belief that federal employees work for him, and from his administration’s goal to “deconstruct the administrative state.” It began shortly after Trump was sworn in on January 20, 2017, when his allies in conservative media began complaining about “Obama holdovers” serving on the staff of the National Security Council, and in places like the Defense Department, State Department, and pretty much every other executive branch agency. These “holdovers,” Trump allies said, were to blame for many of the president’s failures, and were part of a Democratic “deep state” working to frustrate Trump’s goals. The problem with that, of course, is that there is no such thing as a “holdover” — at least not the way Trump and his allies mean. It is possible for an agency official to be a holdover from a previous administration. When President Obama was preparing to take office in January 2009, he asked then-Bush Defense Secretary Robert Gates to remain in his position. Gates, a political appointee, was literally held over from the previous administration. But that’s not what the term means to Trump and his allies. To them, “holdovers” are the career civil servants and subject matter experts who keep the government running. Such people been a fixture in American government since 1883, when then-President Chester Arthur signed the Pendleton Civil Service Reform Act, which created a competitive exam process for selecting government employees and made it illegal to fire them for political reasons. Arthur was an unlikely booster for the idea of a professional civil service. He was a “stalwart,” part of a faction of the Republican Party that supported the “spoils” system, which gave the president — and the party controlling the White House — complete control of federal hiring. He was elected as James Garfield’s running mate to placate those Republicans who were concerned about Garfield’s potential for turning off the spoils system’s spigot of graft. But the abundance of patronage jobs — and the president’s control over them — ended up costing Garfield his life in September 1881, months after he’d been shot twice by Charles Guiteau, a mentally ill man who’d attacked Garfield in a Washington, D.C. train station because he’d been denied the job of consul to Vienna or Paris. The horror of Garfield’s assassination galvanized public support for a civil service bill, and Arthur — who’d been the subject of unfounded suspicions after his name was invoked by Garfield’s assassin — signed it. Since then, nonpartisan civil servants have been a fact of life for presidents. Most have understood that the career professionals who staff the executive branch departments have a vital function. But not Trump. For Trump, having served in government during Barack Obama’s presidency is enough to cast suspicion on any federal employee, and his suspicion of career professionals has extended throughout the executive branch. At agencies large and small, policy planning meetings are routinely restricted to political appointees, and some policies — like the proposed (and dead-in-the-water) merger between the Office of Personnel Management and the General Services Administration — have been designed to give the White House more control over hiring. Many of those policies have not come to fruition, but the goal of getting rid of “disloyal” employees has now become an article of faith for Trump defenders. A Senate trial will give Republicans yet more reasons to attack career professionals as disloyal. The next election will determine whether punishment for “disloyalty” will become more than a conservative pipe dream.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Drew Anderson, director of campaigns and rapid response for GLAAD, said in a statement that Chick-Fil-A must do more. “If Chick-Fil-A is serious about their pledge to stop holding hands with divisive anti-LGBTQ activists, then further transparency is needed regarding their deep ties to organizations like Focus on the Family, which exist purely to harm LGBTQ people and families,” he said in a statement. — Chick-fil-A Betrays Principles and Faithful Customers – Laurie Higgins (DIERSEN: Chick-fil-A’s dumping Christians will motivate Democrat, Libertarian, Green, and RINO governments to pass resolutions to dump Christians. In your municipality, in your township/ward, in your county, in Illinois, in America, and in the world, who takes the lead in dumping Christians?)
https://illinoisfamily.org/faith/chick-fil-a/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In a stunning act of betrayal, Chick-fil-A’s charitable foundation, the Chick-fil-A Foundation, has announced it will no longer donate to the Salvation Army, Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), or Paul Anderson Youth Home (PAYH). Though Chick-fil-A has not publicly acknowledged the reason for its betrayal, everyone knows what it is. Chick-fil-A is attempting to curry favor with the “LGBTQ+” community that is shredding our social fabric. This policy shift constitutes a cowardly betrayal of Chick-fil-A’s Christian ethos and its Christian customers who have stood by Chick-fil-A through all its trials at the hands of legions of supporters of sexual deviance. Broods of vipers identifying as apostles of justice, equality, tolerance, diversity, inclusivity, and compassion have been protesting and maligning Chick-fil-A since 2012 when Dan Truett Cathy, chairman and chief executive officer, made some public statements in an interview with the Baptist Press supporting true marriage and opposing the legal recognition of homosexual unions as marriages. After homosexuals got wind of Cathy’s theologically orthodox and unremarkable statements, some part of hell broke loose and raged against Chick-fil-A. Fortunately for Cathy and Chick-fil-A, Christians turned out en masse all across the country to show their support with their time and money for Cathy’s stand for truth. And this is how Cathy and Chick-fil-A repay them.)

https://www.cnn.com/2019/11/18/politics/donald-trump-never-trump-white-house-staff/index.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: It’s one of the persistent anomalies of the impeachment inquiry: most of the witnesses airing concerns at Trump’s approach to Ukraine remain employed by him, despite his claims they are “Never Trumpers” and his overt suggestions they’ve already been fired. None, for now, have been explicitly fired by Trump, even as he and his allies suggest otherwise. It’s created an odd and uncomfortable situation for staffers, who say they are unclear on their colleagues’ futures in the administration. Over the weekend, a GOP talking point emerged that Trump was well within his rights to choose his own team, a response to Yovanovitch public recounting of the smear campaign orchestrated by Trump’s allies to push her from her post in Kiev. “America hired @realDonaldTrump to fire people like the first three witnesses we’ve seen,” the President’s son, Donald Trump Jr., tweeted as Yovanovitch began her testimony. “Career government bureaucrats and nothing more.” A day later, Trump himself suggested on Twitter he’d already fired the three State Department employees who have appeared in public impeachment hearings, quoting the conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh.)
