FOX NEWS CHICAGO
— ‘Coerced’ student walkout in Chicago is ‘political indoctrination:’ GOP Chicago chair – Matt Finn
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2018/03/14/coerced-student-walkout-in-chicago-is-political-indoctrination-gop-chair.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Chicago Republican Party has filed a complaint with Chicago Public Schools and is considering suing over an anti-gun violence student walkout Wednesday morning it calls “political” and an “indoctrination.” Chicago Public Schools CEO Janice Jackson has publicly given her approval and support for the district-wide walkout, which a Chicago GOP Chairman says has turned into an administration-organized event not a “student walkout.” Chris Cleveland, chairman of the Chicago GOP, pointed to an email sent by an elementary school principal that gave parents of young students instructions on the walkout and the option of making posters. Students across the country were holding a walkout on Wednesday to protest gun violence and to call for gun control measures on the one-month anniversary of the Parkland school shooting that left 17 people dead. The GOP chairman said the school district seemed to be coercing students to take part in the demonstrations. “It’s appalling that 10 to 14 year old kids would be coerced, by their teachers, to participate in a political demonstration,” Cleveland wrote in a statement. “A 10-year-old kid isn’t going to have an informed opinion on these political matters, and shouldn’t be expected to have the fortitude to hold a different opinion from everyone else in his or her classroom. This is political indoctrination, pure and simple.” CPS Inspector General Nicholas Schuler told Fox News the district received the complaint and is evaluating it. The Chicago Public Schools and the CEO’s office have not returned calls from Fox News seeking comment. Last year, more than 650 people were murdered in Chicago. In 2016, nearly 800 were killed, many of whom were teens, some under the age of 12. A CPS spokesperson said they could not recall a district condoned walkout for the city’s own gun violence and homicide rate.)

http://www.news-gazette.com/news/local/2018-03-14/tom-kacich-madigan-treating-democratic-committeewoman-hopeful-foe.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Pamella Gronemeyer, who is running for the low-profile position of Democratic state central committeewoman in the 13th Congressional District, hasn’t promised to try to unseat longtime Democratic Party Chairman Michael Madigan. But one of Madigan’s campaign committees, Friends of Michael J. Madigan, has paid for robocalls by Sen. Dick Durbin and AFL-CIO President Mike Carrigan that endorse Gronemeyer’s opponent, Jayne Mazzotti of Taylorville. And Madigan spent thousands of dollars on mail pieces against two other state central committee members endorsed by Our Revolution, a group of Bernie Sanders supporters like Gronemeyer who want to reform the Democratic Party of Illinois. That might include toppling Madigan, who has headed the party since 1998. “I think it’s been a very tough fight with him and Rauner. Certainly, I’m opposed to Rauner,” said Gronemeyer, a pathologist who lives in Glen Carbon and owns SEMC Pathology in Highland. “But I think that maybe it might be time to contemplate a change. I think (Madigan) should want to embrace some of the people who are running on the slate with me. “We are good Democrats. We went to the convention. We supported things. We got out the vote. I think he should embrace us rather than run ads against us. Or come and talk to us even.” Our Revolution includes 13 candidates from around the state running for either state central committeeman or committeewoman. Even if all were elected next Tuesday, they probably couldn’t transform the 36-member state central committee. But Gronemeyer said she “would like to make the party more progressive. The idea is that it’s sort of staid. We had a lot of progressive activity during the Bernie campaign, and we’d just like to expand the progressive part of it. “The party doesn’t reach everybody. There are a lot of young people and other people who sort of feel left out. I think the Illinois Democratic Party could use some new blood, not that I’m new, but I think I’m a young 65.” Gronemeyer said she doesn’t know why the head of the Democratic Party is using robocalls against her or mailers against some of her colleagues. “I don’t know why Madigan would be afraid of us. We don’t want to throw everything away. Gosh darn it, I supported a tax increase because we have to do something with our budget,” she said of the state income tax increase last year. “They shouldn’t be afraid of us. They should want people to be involved, and that’s what our goal is. “Do I want to declare war on him? No, I want to see if we can work together. I want to see how we can work. I don’t think that declaring war is necessarily a good tactic. But I’m not saying I wouldn’t like to see someone else in there either. We need to see who is available and what they offer.” Madigan spokesman Steve Brown said the robocalls for Mazzotti are simply “in support of incumbent members of the committee who have been longtime Democratic activists.” He said that recorded calls from U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth also have been used on behalf of incumbent state central committee members. “I don’t think anyone is afraid of them,” Brown said. “But you run campaigns to win, and in the case of Sen. Durbin’s calls and the Carrigan calls and the Duckworth calls we made, it is to support party activists who are running to win. We’re not afraid of anybody.” Mazzotti declined to return messages seeking a comment.)

http://nprillinois.org/post/campaign-workers-illinois-push-protections#stream/0
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Accusations of harassment from a campaign worker against her supervisor and close aide to Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan, Kevin Quinn, led to Quinn’s firing last month. Madigan is still struggling with the ripple effects from Alaina Hampton’s claims, with some observers predicting this could be the downfall for the powerful politician. Hampton’s story has also brought attention to how political campaigns deal with sexual harassment. Organizers with a national movement to unionize campaign workers say with the high-pressure and temporary nature of campaign work, there’s often a push to ignore problems like harassment. “We think that (campaigns) are important and working really hard to elect the candidates is something that can change the future of our state,” said Emma LaBounty, an Illinois-based organizer with the Campaign Workers Guild. “But, it’s also something where a lot of times employers will use that as a reason why people should just put their head, work really hard and just not allow themselves to worry about anything else. . . until after election day.” Four Chicago House Democrats recently held a meeting with the Campaign Workers Guild. Campaign workers were invited to talk about their experiences and what they wanted to see change in the workplace. Meanwhile, one of the legislative groups tasked with addressing sexual harassment in Illinois government is looking to change the state election code and Human Rights Act to add protections for campaign workers. A panel appointed by Madigan in the wake of the Hampton’s allegations – U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos, Comptroller Susana Mendoza and state Rep. Carol Ammons – will examine the issue as well. The panel won’t handle any investigations, but plans to talk with those who have spoken out about sexual misconduct within the Democratic Party, according to a letter from the three officials released last month. All funding and work for the panel will be independent from the Democratic Party. “This is a long-standing problem,” said state Rep. Kelly Cassidy, a Chicago Democrat and one of the lawmakers who met with LaBounty. “This is something that is endemic to this industry. We are the most nontraditional of nontraditional workplaces.” In an environment that requires considerable work in an often tight time span, it’s common to encounter unclear expectations and confusion about where employees go to report a problem such as sexual harassment, LaBounty said. Often one person is assigned the human resources role in addition to their campaign duties, and that person rarely has training or experience, LaBounty said. In large campaigns, a more formal HR department is more common, but its existence does not remedy the concerns of campaign workers. “Those are the sorts of situations where, while having adequate processes and adequate HR is certainly something that might be a little bit helpful for stabilizing the situation. . . the HR people still work for and are accountable to the employer at the end of the day,” she said. The guild is working in Illinois and several other states to get contracts for campaign workers that include specific clauses protecting them from harassment and requiring each campaign to have a person to file complaints with and a process to move the claim forward to an impartial third-party investigation. So far, the union group has only been contacted by Democratic campaigns, but if a Republican campaign staffer were to approach the group with an interest in unionizing, they would help, LaBounty said. Leaders of the House Task Force on Sexual Harassment are looking to strengthen the complaint reporting process as well. Their proposal includes changes in the state election code that would mandate all political committees maintain discrimination and harassment policies. Additionally, training in sexual harassment and discrimination would be required. “They would have to have some of the things that we require of ourselves in government,” said state Rep. Sara Wojcicki Jimenez, a Republican from Leland Grove. She and Democratic Rep. Barbara Flynn Currie co-chair the task force. By expanding the definition of an employee to include some campaign workers and the definition of employer to include the political committees that run campaigns in the Human Rights Act, Jimenez is hoping the committee will be able to tackle the issue of the campaign misconduct reporting structure. “A lot of what we’re doing right now is diving into our current law to see where we need to make some adjustments to include places for folks not only to get training if they work on a campaign, and if something were to happen, how they could report that up through the process and get a due process situation to hear their complaint,” Jimenez said. The task force has set up an email account, sdhtaskforce@ilga.gov, for the general public to submit suggestions and tips for amending the law to better tackle the nationwide issue of sexual harassment and discrimination.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Today’s immigration That was then. Today, millions of immigrants, including some who make it here legally, assume they don’t have to learn English or assimilate to our culture and values, but, rather, that we accommodate theirs. Moreover, they believe they are entitled to collect welfare, get free health services and even vote in our elections. Naturally, the always dependable ACLU is fighting for illegal aliens to have the right to vote in presidential elections. But can we really place all the blame on immigrants, both illegal and illegal, who after arriving in this country become dependent on the free perks and unconditional services handed out by our government (courtesy of taxpayers) for their living, hand-outs that not even American citizens are privy to. It is, after all, what a great many sources are telling immigrants, people like college professors, newspaper publishers, owners of cable TV stations, Hollywood celebrities and, worst of all, members of Congress. Lazarus’ Words Used to Thwart Trump After President Donald Trump’s executive order on immigration in January of 2017, many critics quickly took up a familiar rallying cry, lifting words from the Statue of Liberty that have for decades represented American immigration: “Give me your tired, your poor / Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.”)

https://www.nbcchicago.com/blogs/ward-room/Political-Hit-Job-Rauner-Responds-to-Harold-Gay-Adoption-Controversy-476616963.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The recent controversy over what Erika Harold said while a contestant for the Miss Illinois pageant 18 years ago is a political hit job, Gov. Bruce Rauner said Monday. He said he still supports her candidacy for attorney general, but how do Rauner and his opponent Jeanne Ives stand on the issue of gay adoptions? “I’ve known Erika Harold for about five years,” Rauner said. “I have found her to be a person of great talent and integrity.” Harold has not released a public schedule since the NBC 5 report last week that when she competed in the pageant in 2000 and was asked if she had to choose to place a child in foster care with either a loving gay couple or a heterosexual couple who were known child abusers. Sources in the room that days said she selected the child abusers. “It’s a preposterous question and I know many loving, excellent parents who are gay couples–and that would be a good option,” Rauner said. Jeanie Ives responded to the question as well. “Nobody ever places any child in an abusive situation–period,” she said. The four sources with knowledge of the pageant, including a contestant who watched the videotaped interview, confirmed Harold’s response. Other officials have taken offense to the comment. “I know there are anti-gay people out there,” Democrat state Rep. Greg Harri said. “But the disturbing thing to me is that she would want a child to go into a family of abusers.” As for the state of the GOP race, while Rauner leads in the polls, Ives, who is fighting ads that link her to House Speaker Mike Madigan, believes she could score an upset. “We know the most motivated voters are the ones that are showing up at the poll,” she said. “And when that comes up–I’ll tell you what–that is real victory on March 20 for us.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Democratic governor candidate Daniel Biss is exploring ways to help insurgent candidates for the state party’s leadership committee and challenge House Speaker Michael Madigan’s chairmanship. A Biss aide said the state senator from Evanston has talked with campaign attorneys about what fundraising mechanism could be used to assist challengers to about a dozen members the Democratic State Central Committee. The 36-member panel elects the party chairman. It’s made up of one man and one woman from each of Illinois’ 18 congressional districts, and the seats are on the primary ballot. There were no details yet on whether any arrangement had been made. Madigan has been actively backing current committee members seeking re-election. Such a move would be a furtherance of Biss’ effort to support progressive causes in his bid to gain support for governor from the more liberal wing of the Democratic Party. On Tuesday, he is expected to add endorsements from Indivisible groups in the Lakeview neighborhood and Oak Park. The Indivisible groups were formed in the wake of President Donald Trump’s election. Over the weekend, rival candidate Chris Kennedy said he believed the Democratic Party establishment should welcome such groups into the party fold but said they had been rebuffed. “It’s great to see Chris Kennedy wants progressive groups involved in the state party, especially since those progressive groups have overwhelmingly endorsed Daniel Biss for governor,” said Biss spokesman Tom Elliott.)

http://www.dailyherald.com/news/20180312/why-dupage-democrats-may-ask-some-county-board-nominees-to-drop-out-of-race
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Elizabeth Chaplin, the only Democrat on the county board, said candidates have been aware of the strategy since last summer. While she didn’t sign the pledge, Chaplin said she likely will step aside if she’s not the top vote-getter among the three Democrats seeking her party’s nod for two District 2 seats. The challenge, she said, is that Republicans normally pull about 20,000 ballots in DuPage primaries while Democrats pull only 5,000. If those numbers hold this year — and there are indications they might based on the number of campaign signs and the number of DuPage politicians who marched in recent parades — the Democrats’ chances of winning any board seat will drop dramatically unless they focus their efforts on a smaller number of races. “We can have more candidates on the ballot and lose or fewer candidates on the ballot and have a better chance of winning,” Chaplin said. While the plan was known in Democratic circles, it didn’t gain much public attention until John Basco, one of three Democrats seeking two seats in District 3, posted it on social media. Basco said he originally agreed to step down if he finished second in the primary, but has since changed his mind.)

DUPAGE POLICY JOURNAL
— BEYOND DISGUSTING, BEYOND TRAGIC: Bill on medical marijuana use in schools moves to House floor – Angela Underwood
https://dupagepolicyjournal.com/stories/511359254-bill-on-medical-marijuana-use-in-schools-moves-to-house-floor
(FROM THE ARTICLE: “I remember how this went down the first time when we approved using marijuana products for epilepsy and I was in favor of it, and then the sponsor who is here today immediately changed all the rules in a floor amendment that didn’t go back to committee,” Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) said, adding Lang was doing the same thing again. “Now we know what the intent is, and the intent is to eventually have school personnel be the ones who are administering this drug.” She called the bill a a “slippery slope,” though it was narrowly tailored to a child sitting before her at the witness panel with her parents. “We started with a four-year pilot program for medical marijuana, and we have made changes every single year since,” Ives said. “Now the concern quite frankly is that before you know it, it’s an edible not an oil, there are all sorts of other conditions and not just epilepsy and then it is administered by school nurses or other personnel.” Ives made it clear to the family that she will support the bill for them, but she “will be watching,” Lang for future changes in the bill that he may try to slip in. . .Prefacing his comments with the fact that he comes from the old school, Rep. John Cavaletto (R-Salem) remembers when marijuana had only a negative connotation before it was considered to be medically healing, however he still sees it as a problem. “I visited Colorado not too long ago and happened to be there for about five days and did walk from one restaurant back to my hotel every evening with my wife and I witnessed these people on the sidewalks, in the corner and on the grassy knolls are drugged out,” Cavaletto said. “That’s the side of marijuana I see.” He said he cannot seem to put it in his mind that of all the drugs now produced, medical marijuana is the only one that can control epileptic seizures for children, but his thoughts are countered by the parents that sat before him, making him reconsider the notion.)
— House panel backs bill making physicals for substitute teachers optional – Angela Underwood (DIERSEN: Democrats run the schools. Of course, if physicals are made optional, those Democrats will waive the requirement for Democrat applicants and impose the requirement on Republican applicants. Overwhelmingly, my superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates in the federal government who had serious health problems were Democrats.)
https://dupagepolicyjournal.com/stories/511359301-house-panel-backs-bill-making-physicals-for-substitute-teachers-optional
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) brought up the irony of having unfit substitute teacher supervising a gym class. “Nobody says you have to hire them,” Sherer said. Sherer said the bill was about giving more rights back to local control. “I agree with that too; however you have issues here because once you leave it open to interpretation by the school district then you are absolutely opening it up for discrimination, because they forced someone to get a physical or they declined them because they felt like they were not physically fit enough for the position,” Ives said. “Then you put them (school districts) in a conundrum, you see.” Next comes workers’ compensation problems, Ive said, noting if a substitute gets injured doing an exercise they are not up for, the school district could become liable; however, Scherer said it is “about local control and it is as simple as that.” After Ives voted no and left the meeting, Rep. Robert Pritchard (R-Hinckley) sought clarification on the bill, asking if Sherer was looking to temporarily waive the licensing in an effort to get needed teachers sooner and was told no; he then asked if the “teachers association and management alliance” approved the bill. “There are no opponents,” Sherer said. Rep. David Olsen (R-Downers Grove) said he was confused. “Maybe I am the only confused one whether it is evidence of physical fitness or a physical where I go to my doctor and I get a physical,” Olsen said. Sherer said it is not about how many sit-ups a substitute can perform or times they can run around the block, it is a money issue, alleviating the ancillary educator from coming up with even more funds than necessary to be certified. “I respect the concerns Rep. Ives had about workers’ comp and such, but you are correct we do have a teacher shortage and I think we need to take some steps to address that shortage,” Olsen said. Rep. John Cavaletto (R-Salem) shared Ives’ apprehension. “I really don’t like that,” Cavaletto, adding though he understands the shortage, that should not be a reason to exclude some substitutes from mandates teachers themselves are required to follow. He then asked about the cost of a physical, which Sherer said could cost up to $400, but physical or not a substitute would have to be free of communicable disease. “How many of those are there I wonder,” Cavaletto said. Though he was not thrilled with the bill, Cavaletto said he would support the bill due to the teacher shortage. The panel approved HB4706 and the bill moved to the House floor.)

Dillard, Brady, and Rutherford ran to the right of Rauner. What if Brady and Rutherford had withdrawn and had thrown their support to Dillard? Why has Rauner gone so strongly negative against Ives? Further, I would stress that a) those who dominated TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois in 2012 rudely dumped me in 2012, b) those who dominated the Wheaton Chamber of Commerce (WCC) in 2011 rudely dumped me in 2011, c) those who dominated the Illinois Center Right Coalition (ICRC) in 2007 rudely dumped me in 2007, d) those who dominated the American Association of Political Consultants (AAPC) Midwest Chapter (MC) in 2004 rudely dumped me in 2004, and e) those who dominated GAO in 1997 rudely dumped me in 1997. GOVERNING
— Vacancies Aren’t Unique to Trump. States Struggle to Fill Top Positions, Too. When an agency head leaves, some states take years to find a permanent replacement. What takes so long?
http://www.governing.com/topics/mgmt/gov-vacancies-state-government.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: There are a number of reasons why it’s difficult to find people to lead government departments. For one, qualified candidates can often make much more money in the private sector. In March 2017, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) compared the total compensation of Medicaid directors to the top managed care executives with whom they often work. In the 10 states examined, the private executives made $314,278, on average, which is more than double Medicaid directors’ average pay of $152,439. Money aside, people who take these jobs have to be willing to withstand constant criticism from within and outside of government. The work is strenuous and finding a work-life balance can seem impossible. Robinson recalls the following comment made to him by a chief information security officer who left his job for the private sector. “He said, ‘Doug, I’ll make twice as much money and I’m going to work half as much. And it’s highly unlikely that my name will be in the front page of the paper.”)

— Ives wants more rights for accusers – Bill Lukitsch (DIERSEN: Have you ever accused anyone of anything? In 1988, when I was 40 years old, I became an active member in a class action lawsuit that charged my employer GAO with reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation. My Democrat GAO superiors retaliated against me for that a) by throwing me off audits of IRS, b) by giving me unfair performance expectations and appraisals, c) by always ranking me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, d) by forcing me to take their early retirement “offer” in 1997 when I was 49 years old, and e) by doing everything that they could to stop me from getting a job that would be appropriate for someone with my work experience, education, professional certifications, and professional license. What is Ives’ position on the aforesaid? My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes, many of whom read my GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails, side with my Democrat GAO superiors against me.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-kwame-raoul-pat-quinn-ag-20180307-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Rauner primary challenger state Rep. Jeanne Ives called for a vote on her proposal to expand protections for those who accuse a state lawmaker or employee of ethics violations. “We want this done now,” Ives said at a Tuesday news conference in Springfield. “We don’t want this to sit until the end of May. We want this bill out and on the floor and operable immediately.” The bill says that legislative and executive inspectors general must give certain information to people filing complaints, including a receipt when a complaint is filed, notification of an investigation, a summary of evidence and a report of decisions made during an investigation. It also gives the accuser the right to testify at hearings and would expedite the process if allegations concern sexual harassment. Appearing with Ives was victims right advocate Denise Rotheimer, who in October publicly accused Sen. Silverstein of sexually harassing her through text and social media messages while she was working with him to pass legislation. “Currently, we have no rights,” Rotheimer said. “We need to make this process transparent, we need to make it fair and as just as possible, because complaints like mine are very personal.)

http://www.wrex.com/story/37664196/2018/03/06/illinois-lawmakers-consider-new-rules-for-underage-gambling-stings
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Like a growing number of restaurants and bars around Illinois, Don Carter Lanes in Rockford offers video gaming for customers over the age of 21. “These games have become such an important part of our business model now that we’re doing everything we can to keep minors out,” said Sommer. But Sommer says his best efforts might not be enough in an undercover sting. Under the law, sting operations can send in a minor to a bar or restaurant with video gaming. If the minor plays a machine before a waitress or manager can check their ID, lawmakers say that business could be fined up to $5,000. “By the time they can walk over there and tell the person they have to leave, they could have easily gotten one bet in and that was never the intent,” said Republican Senator Dave Syverson. DAILY HERALD
— DuPage voters to consider proposal to merge the DuPage County Election Commission with the clerk’s office – Robert Danchez (DIERSEN: Of course, as an elected Republican Precinct Committeeman in DuPage County since 2000, I have dealt a lot with the DuPage County Election Commission (DCEC). So far, sadly, if not outrageously, my many requests have been denied that the DCEC notify elected precinct committeemen directly and in a timely manner of any proposed changes to their polling place or to their precinct lines. Sadly, if not outrageously, the DCEC continues to insist on only notifying the chairmen of political organizations. I should write a book about when those chairmen failed to notify me in a timely manner about changes to my DuPage County Milton Township Precinct 9 in Wheaton polling place and to my precinct lines. Sadly, if not outrageously, the location of the current polling place for my precinct discourages those in my precinct from voting. In 2015, the DCEC outrageously gerrymandered my precinct. The DCEC took away about 100 residences on the west side of my precinct and gave me about 100 residences to the east out of Jeanne Ives’s precinct. Initially, the DCEC drew Ives into my precinct, but then, I am told, Ives successfully insisted that she be drawn into Precinct 65 to the southeast. Many, if not most, chairmen of political organizations want to run for government offices and they are under tremendous pressure raise money for their organizations. Consequently, they are likely, if not extremely likely to do the bidding of those who have the most religious, government, political, and/or financial clout in their municipality, in their township, in their county, and in Illinois.)

http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20180305/NEWS13/180309939/university-of-chicago-donors-want-their-100-million-back
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Wealthy twin brothers Thomas and Timothy Pearson planned to donate $100 million to the University of Chicago for creation of an institute that would study global conflict resolution. Now they’re battling the university in federal court, demanding it return the $22 million they provided since the gift was agreed to in April 2015. They and their foundation allege that the school has breached their agreement on several fronts, from failing to appoint an institute director to organizing a major conference. The contribution was tied at the time it was given with several others for the second-largest donation ever received at the school. “Rather than address these breaches with forthrightness and transparency, the U of C has repeatedly sought to avoid and deceive the foundation regarding these and other failures,” the Pearsons say in the lawsuit filed Feb. 20 in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma. “The U of C has failed to deal with the Foundation honestly and in good faith.” The university in a statement called the Pearsons’ allegations “baseless” and says it will “vigorously defend itself” against them. “The university honors its grant agreements with its donors, and it did so with the Pearsons,” it says in the statement. “Further, all academic and hiring decisions are the sole purview of the University and its faculty, guided by the principle of academic freedom.”)

WGN RADIO
— What is the state of conservative politics and policy in Illinois? – PETER ZIMMERMAN (DIERSEN: Who is a conservative? In Illinois, if you do not defend and advance the traditional family, right to life, immigration, Second Amendment, equal opportunity (no race or gender based preference giving), and the other planks in the Republican Party platform and in the Illinois Republican Party platform, you are not a conservative. If you promote dependency on government, dependency on charity, LGBTQ activity, abortion, mass/illegal immigration, diminution of Second Amendment rights, patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, booze, gambling, pot, or other vices, or other terrible things, you are not a conservative. Who are the conservatives in your precinct, in your municipality, in your township/ward, in your county, and in Illinois? Who speaks for them? WGN Radio has chosen Dan Proft to speak for all conservatives in Illinois. What is Proft’s opinion of you? More importantly, what do people think Proft’s opinion of you is? People can conclude that a) if those who are close to  have a high opinion of you, then Proft has a high opinion of you and b) if those who are close to Proft have a low opinion of you, then Proft has a low opinion of you.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Cullerton goes all in for Senator Silverstein – Editorial (DIERSEN: Who goes all out for you when adverse actions are taken against you? Of course, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes glorify and praise those activists, those candidates, those elected officials, those party leaders, those major donors, those political consultants, those etc. in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in Milton Township, in DuPage County, and in Illinois who did not come to my defense when my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes a) gerrymandered my precinct in 2015, b) ended my TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois chairmanship in 2012, c) ended my Wheaton Chamber of Commerce (WCC) Government Affairs Committee membership in 2011, d) ended my Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) webmaster service in 2010 and 2004, e) ended my Illinois Center Right Coalition (ICRC) Steering Committee membership in 2007, f) ended my American Association of Political Consultants (AAPC) Midwest Chapter (MC) board membership in 2004, g) ended my GAO employment in 1997, h) etc. They especially stress those TAPROOT, WCC, MTRCC, ICRC, and AAPC MC officers and members who did not come to my defense.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/editorials/ct-edit-silverstein-cullerton-sexual-harassment-20180228-story.html
(FROM THE EDITORIAL: Silverstein faces three Democratic challengers in the March 20 primary: Ram Villivalam, a former union legislative liaison; David Zulkey, an attorney; and Caroline McAteer-Fournier, who works for DePaul University’s career center. This would be an easy race for Cullerton to sit out. Let Senator Unbecoming make his own case to voters. Several top Democrats have called for Silverstein to step down. But Cullerton is doubling down, writing generous checks of at least $115,400 from his campaign fund to support Silverstein, along with $6,430 in campaign ads, according to the latest campaign disclosure forms. It sure raises a few questions.)

— Elite Colleges Expand Efforts to Enroll and Support Low-Income Students American Talent Initiative now has 97 member schools taking steps toward socioeconomic diversity – Melissa Korn (DIERSEN: Were you considered to be college material? While I attended Crete-Monee High School 1962-1966, I took college preparatory courses notwithstanding the fact that many, if not most, if not virtually everyone at the time viewed me as NOT being “college material.” Neither of my parents had attended college. My father was the first of his ancestors to earn a high school diploma. My mother never attended high school. I spent my junior and senior years and the summer in between washing dishes for the minimum wage in the basement of the S.S. Kresges in Chicago Heights. I just barely made into the top 20% of my class, my ACT score was only 24, I was draft bait, my eyesight could not be corrected to 20/20, I had partial red/green color blindness, and I had Osgood-Schlatter disease (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osgood%E2%80%93Schlatter_disease). Further, my father had fought type 1 diabetes from age 14. I am sure that many thought that I would soon come down with type 1 diabetes too.)

— When ‘Married, Filing Separately’ Lowers Your Tax Bill – Laura Saunders (DIERSEN: Overwhelmingly, my critics/opponents are men who have benefited from the “marriage bonus,” that is, their wife’s have had little or no income.)
https://www.wsj.com/articles/when-married-filing-separately-lowers-your-tax-bill-1519381801
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Here’s an example: When Congress overhauled the tax code last year, lawmakers capped deductions for state and local taxes, or SALT, at $10,000 per return for 2018 and after. Thus, married couples get half the SALT write-off per person that singles do. But spouses can’t get two $10,000 deductions by filing separately. If they do, the law allows only $5,000 of SALT deductions to each spouse. To qualify for two $10,000 write-offs, the couple would have to divorce. This result might seem unfair, but such outcomes are common for married couples filing separately. Most can’t claim the American opportunity education credit or certain other breaks, and the ability to deduct a traditional IRA contribution or to make a Roth IRA contribution often phases out at $10,000 of income. For a list of limits, see IRS Publication 501. Why did Congress enact rules that push couples to file jointly? According to tax policy specialist Dennis Ventry of the University of California, Davis, the tax code for decades favored families in which one spouse earned most of the income, giving them a “marriage bonus.” That was unfavorable to single filers, and subsequent efforts to help them created burdens for two-earner married couples. This tilt has persisted in many provisions, Mr. Ventry says.)
