THE HILL
— Senior Democrats tout achievements as party’s generational divide widens – SCOTT WONG (DIERSEN: All my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes support the federal government’s “up-or-out” policy for its employees who are non-veteran, White, and/or male. Will political parties impose “up-or-out” policies like the federal government has for its non-veteran White male employees? For example, you would be “out” if you do not make a) township/ward party chairman or municipal/township/ward elected office by age 25, b) county party chairman or county elected office by age 30, c) state central committee member or state representative by age 35, d) state party officer or state senator by age 40, e) state party chairman, statewide office, U.S. representative, or U.S. senator by age 45, and f) RNC/DNC chairman, state governor, or U.S. President by age 50.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— As Supreme Court ruling threatens labor, teacher union leader says it’s been adding members. . .SEIU-Healthcare Illinois wants higher minimum wage – Rick Pearson
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-met-morning-spin-monday-edition-20180629-story.html
— Impact of tax changes in 2018 – Elliot Raphaelson (DIERSEN: Government should encourage marriage and homeownership. Therefore, Roskam should increase the $10,000 SALT cap to $20,000 for married filing jointly.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/sns-201806192045–tms–savingsgctnzy-b20180619-20180619-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Other changes to the tax code will also impact taxpayer decisions. For example, starting in 2018, there will be a deduction cap of $10,000 on the amount of state and local income and property taxes, known as SALT. This limit is per-tax return, not per person. As a result, many couples who itemized in prior years will no longer have sufficient deductions to do so. For example, a couple that is eligible for the $10,000 deduction will need an additional $14,000 in deductions for charity, mortgage interest, medical expenses and so forth in order for itemizing to be worthwhile. The bottom line is that many couples will be using the standard deduction in 2018 who, in the past, would itemize.)
— The sorry history of journalists murdered in the U.S. for doing their job – Pat Morrison (DIERSEN: I should write a book about those who have done the most to stop me from putting GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails together and sending them out.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/commentary/ct-perspec-newsroom-journalists-murder-fake-news-trump-charlie-hebdo-0702-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Every day, and now more and more each year, newspaper reporters and radio, TV and online news reporters across this country get hate mail, hate email, even death threats. Some are preposterous; some are all too plausible. Within hours of Thursday’s murders, Buzzfeed writer Anne Helen Petersen tweeted, “I’ve had people email death threats, threaten to cut my dog’s throat, tell me I’d pay for my fake news.” We get these threats, but we never get used to them. A healthy tension between the press and politicians is as old as the country, and actually an important part of its governance. Once in a while, it gets dangerously, disastrously unhealthy. The second president of the United States, John Adams, threw newspapermen in prison under laws that, like English law, were broad enough to imprison people for almost any criticism of the government. Editors, publishers, a member of Congress and Benjamin Franklin’s publisher (who was also his grandson) were put behind bars, and countless other newspapermen were intimidated into silence, which is exactly what the targeting of journalists is meant to do: to shut them up. The election of Thomas Jefferson and the affirmation of the First Amendment soon put an end to this persecution. And today we have the sneering and insults from a presidential candidate who became the president of the United States. His “fake news” retorts try to diminish stories he doesn’t like, and the “scum” journalists who reported them. When he calls the press “the enemy of the people,” he is deploying the same term used by Nazi Germany and Stalin’s Soviet Union to demonize the leader’s own enemies.)

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
— Sen. Duckworth: Maternity leave over, will bring nursing baby to work with her – Lynn Sweet (DIERSEN: During the early 1990s, to help GAO a) hire, retain, and promote young women and b) to get rid of its employees who smoked (overwhelmingly old White men), GAO gutted the smoking room in its Chicago office and turned it into a lactation room.)
https://chicago.suntimes.com/columnists/sen-duckworth-maternity-leave-bring-nursing-baby-work/
— FBI: Man threatened July 4 attack at parade in Cleveland
https://chicago.suntimes.com/news/fbi-federal-bureau-of-investigation-cleveland-arrest-parade/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Federal authorities say they’ve arrested a man who talked about setting off a bomb at a Fourth of July parade in Cleveland and attacking people watching fireworks. Officials said Monday that the man who’s an American citizen often expressed his support for al-Qaida and said he wanted to kill members of the U.S. military. Authorities have charged Demetrius Pitts with attempted support of a terrorist organization. There are no court records listing an attorney for Pitts, who lives in the Cleveland area and was arrested Sunday. FBI Special Agent Stephen Anthony says Pitts scouted out locations this past week for a site to attack in downtown Cleveland. Anthony says it’s not clear how close Pitts was to carrying out his threats, but he says authorities couldn’t sit back and wait.)

— New perk in the HR arsenal: An on-site DePaul MBA – LYNNE MAREK (DIERSEN: I earned an MBA from Loyola in 1976, a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul in 1980, and a master’s degree in financial markets and trading from IIT in 1997. My Democrat superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates at IRS 1971-1980 and GAO 1980-1997 always hinted/implied/argued/shouted that the graduate courses that I took a) were not job-related, b) did not help me carry out my job duties, c) were taken by me to get a job in the private sector, and d) were a distraction. To keep their jobs and to get promoted, my Democrat superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates in the federal government focused on getting rid of federal employees who were Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)
http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20180629/ISSUE01/180629833
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Chicago companies in cutthroat competition for employees are dangling another perk: on-site MBA programs, courtesy of DePaul University. Walgreens Boots Alliance, Northern Trust and the parent of Blue Cross & Blue Shield are among employers that have paired with DePaul to offer discounted graduate programs—minus the after-work rush to campus. This is a “carrot” that companies can offer, says Suzanne Depeder, associate vice president for enrollment, management and marketing at DePaul. “As the economy has heated up, so does the job market, so companies are looking at ways of attracting and retaining their talent,” she says. It’s a plus for universities, too, especially those like DePaul facing enrollment and revenue declines. While many schools have tried on-site executive education, DePaul’s Kellstadt Graduate School of Business has been more successful than most, attracting nearly 1,000 students and millions in company-subsidized tuition dollars since starting in 2013. Still, there’s a push-pull in such partnerships, and they don’t always survive. DePaul, the largest Catholic university in the U.S., with a total student headcount of nearly 23,000, saw its graduate schools gain students last year, even as its overall enrollment continued a six-year decline. DePaul cut 62 employees, or 3.5 percent of its nonfaculty staff, in June to “better position the university for the future,” it said. The Master of Business Administration is considered a must by many corporate climbers, and their employers often foot a portion of the cost. Eighty-five percent of U.S. employers plan to hire MBAs this year, down from 91 percent last year, according to survey results released in June by the Graduate Management Admission Council. The decline reflects more students seeking related, specialized master’s degrees in subjects like data science and computer engineering. Since DePaul launched its on-site Corporate Employer Outreach, or CEO, program, it has produced 421 graduates. An additional 374 are enrolled now, plus 155 coming this fall, Depeder says. An MBA from DePaul costs about $76,000, but the cost varies for on-site corporate cohorts, depending on the number of students, she says. Companies hosting DePaul’s program can tailor it to their business needs and knit together workers from disparate parts of their businesses. Employees miss out on networking with peers at other companies, but that might not be a bad thing in terms of retention.)

By then, I had worked for GAO for almost 9 years, I had worked for IRS for almost 9 years, I had become a licensed CPA in 1981, I had passed the Certified Internal Auditor examination on my first attempt in 1981, I had earned a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul in 1980, I had passed the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979, and I had earned an MBA from Loyola in 1976.)

BREITBART

https://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2018/07/01/federal-government-resources-used-promote-lgbt-pride/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Breitbart News tracked down some of LGBT Pride Month events across federal agencies, including National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the Veterans Administration (VA), Library of Congress (LOC) and, the National Park Service (NPS): — The VA decided the best way to make sure veterans in the LGBT community feel comfortable seeking medical care was to put on a drag show, which traditionally is a parade of men dressing in women’s clothing and make-up. National Public Radio (NPR) reported the VA was taking a “particularly fabulous approach” for its Pride Month event, organized by the White River Junction VA Medical Center in Vermont. “Welcome to the gayest show on Earth,” the MC said to open the show in NPR’s report. “But first, I just have to say the VA is here for its queers, and we are proud to serve all veterans,” the MC said. — The CIA celebration was extensive and overseen in Washington, DC, by its new director, Gina Haspel, according to its website: During our keynote event held at CIA Headquarters the first week of June, Director Haspel introduced Major General (MG) Tammy Smith, the highest ranking and first openly gay general in US history. Director Haspel described MG Smith, saying, “She refused to give in to discrimination, stayed riveted on her goals, and proceeded to blaze a trail that will go down in the history books. Today, Major General Smith is widely recognized as a pioneer in helping LGBT men and women to fully contribute—and fully belong—to the Army family.” This event is one of several CIA activities celebrating Pride Month, including participation in the Capital DC Pride Festival and the 7th annual IC Pride Summit, of which CIA was a founder. — The LOC said its collection of works by and about the LGBT community makes it a year-round celebration but in June the library featured discussions with authors who wrote books about homosexual romance. “The library’s month-long celebration demonstrates how lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans have strengthened our country, by using their talent and creativity to help create awareness and goodwill,” the LOC website states. — NASA joined the San Francisco LGBT Pride Parade in June and also had a booth. A description of the event said: Please, stop by and say hello, take some funky photos using our infrared camera station. Learn about the autonomous helicopter that will soon be exploring the Red Planet, provided by our Aeromechanics division. Take a dive into a brilliant coral reef, brought to you by the Earth Science division. Get up close and personal with some flies and much more from our folks in the Biosciences division. Do not forget to grab a swag bag while supplies last. — The National Park Service has a striking photograph on its website of NPS employees — federal employees — marching with rainbow flags and celebrating the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in New York City that was the scene of a violent clash between patrons and police in 1969 that is credited with starting the “gay rights movement” and was made a national historic monument during the Obama administration. This year NPS, according to a blog on its website, is already looking forward to next year’s Pride Month: June is Pride Month, and while Stonewall National Monument shares the unforgettable story of the 1969 riots year-round, this year kicks off a special countdown to World Pride in 2019. This annual event, which will be hosted by New York City in 2019, is the largest global Pride celebration. It will mark the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising and its pivotal role as the birthplace of the modern lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer civil rights movement.)

— Palatine Hometown Fest parade draws a crowd, despite the heat – James Kane (DIERSEN: Peter Roskam will be in Wheaton’s Independence Day parade along with Peter Breen, Amy Grant, Jeanne Ives, Paul Hinds, Grant Eckhoff, Tim Elliot, Chris Zaruba, James Mendrick, Jeff MacKay, Karen Wilson, Evelyn Sanguinetti, and the Milton Township Republican Central Committee. DuPage County Republicans are sponsoring the Tunes of Glory Pipes & Drums and the Wheaton North and South high school bands.)
http://www.dailyherald.com/news/20180630/palatine-hometown-fest-parade-draws-a-crowd-despite-the-heat
(FROM THE ARTICLE: While the event led off with a large contingent of police vehicles and officers, followed by fire equipment, much more numerous were the legions of people marching in support of Republican candidates for state, local and national office. . .Gov. Bruce Rauner and attorney general candidate Erika Harrold were among the statewide candidates working the crowd in the sweltering heat, but the largest group of political marchers was backing U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam, who is in a tough reelection fight. The Republicans were followed by a small contingent of marchers supporting Democratic candidates.)

— Inside Facebook and Twitter’s secret meetings with Trump aides and conservative leaders – Tony Romm (DIERSEN: Who are the conservative leaders in Illinois, in your county, in your township/ward, and in your municipality? How often do they publish articles on their websites in support of the traditional family, right to life, immigration, and Second Amendment planks in the Illinois Republican Party platform? Who reads their articles? Who reads their emails?)
http://www.dailyherald.com/business/20180630/inside-facebook-and-twitters-secret-meetings-with-trump-aides-and-conservative-leaders
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Twitter and Facebook are scrambling to assuage conservative leaders who have sounded alarms — and sought to rile voters — with accusations that the country’s tech giants are censoring right-leaning posts, tweets and news. From secret dinners with conservative media elite to private meetings with the Republican National Committee, the new outreach reflects tech giants’ delicate task: satisfying a party in power while defending online platforms against attacks that threaten to undermine the public’s trust in the web. . . . To address the allegations, Dorsey has tried to break bread — quite literally — with his company’s critics. The Twitter executive convened a rare private dinner with Republican leaders and conservative commentators in Washington last week at Cafe Milano, a familiar Georgetown haunt for city power brokers, according to four people who participated in the dinner but requested anonymity because it was off the record. The gathering came weeks after Dorsey invoked conservatives’ ire by tweeting a story suggesting voters should elect Democrats in November — and after he made his first official visit to Congress. Among those attending the June 19 dinner were Mercedes Schlapp, a top communications adviser for Trump; Grover Norquist, the leader of Americans for Tax Reform; Greta Van Susteren, a right-leaning host on MSNBC; and Guy Benson, a Fox News commentator, according to the people in the room. Dorsey hoped to use the dinner as a way to build “trust” among conservatives who have long chastised the company, three of the people said. He defended Twitter against accusations that it targeted right-leaning users unfairly but still admitted that the company has room for improvement, according to the attendees. In response, the Twitter executive heard an earful from conservatives gathered at the table, who scoffed at the fact that Dorsey runs a platform that’s supposed to be neutral even though he’s tweeted about issues like immigration, gay rights and national politics. They also told Dorsey that the tech industry’s efforts to improve diversity — after years of criticism for maintaining a largely white, male workforce — should focus on hiring engineers with more diverse political viewpoints as well, according to those who dined with him in Washington. A spokesman for Twitter declined to comment on the dinner.)

Maxine Waters addressed a rally in Los Angeles on Saturday, June 23, telling a crowd: “If you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd and you push back on them! And you tell them that they are not welcome, anymore, anywhere.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1Fu3g1MGHY In today’s letter to the Office of Congressional Ethics co-chairman, Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton writes: “In encouraging individuals to create “crowds” who will “push back” on President Trump’s Cabinet members at private business establishments and in seemingly trying to prevent these Cabinet officials from obtaining basic necessities without fear of assault and violence, Rep. Waters seems to be violation of House rules, specifically: “A Member, Delegate, Resident Commissioner, officer, or employee of the House shall conduct himself at all times in a manner that shall reflect creditably on the House. [House Rule 23, clause 1.]” We hereby request that the Office of Congressional Ethics conduct a preliminary investigation into whether Rep. http://www.windycitymediagroup.com/lgbt/Mother-Nature-shines-on-49th-Pride-Parade-/63312.html

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Hundreds of thousands of Chicagoans and out-of-towners lined the streets of Lakeview and Uptown for the 49th annual Chicago Pride Parade the afternoon of June 24. Police officials did not yet have attendance figures at the time of publication, but estimates have suggested the crowd measured about one million spectators for the last several years. Those spectators could not have asked for better weather on June 24; after several days of rain and clouds in Chicago, sunny skies returned for Pride weekend and temperatures remained in the 70s for the afternoon of the parade. Community organizations, city agencies, educational and religious institutions, labor unions and LGBT groups from major corporations were among those taking part. Organizers were limited to 150 parade entries, and kicked off from the corner of Broadway and Montrose Avenue shortly after noon. The final float crossed the starting point at about 2:45 p.m. The parade was headed up by members of Scouts for Equality, an organization working to ensure that precepts of equality are carried out within the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), which, at least in units not affiliated with non-affirming faith-based organizations, no longer discriminates against LGBT adults. Cate Readling, vice-president of membership of the BSA’s Pathway to Adventure Council, noted that BSA had recently begun admitting girls as well. “We’re all official now,” Readling said. The Scouts were followed up by Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who briefly spoke alongside Alds. Tom Tunny (44th Ward) and James Cappleman (46th). In his remarks, Emanuel spoke of the city’s “inclusivity” and “belief in equality and tolerance.” With both federal midterm and state gubernatorial elections in November, and a city election in early 2019, politicians were out in full force. J.B. Pritzker (D), who is challenging incumbent Gov. Bruce Rauner (R) in November, said, “We’re [at] a time when Donald Trump has put rights at risk. He has stood up against trans rights and LGBTQ rights, and he stood against children by putting them in detention, children who are here emigrating with their families, separating them. At a time when it feels like government has become an instrument of immorality, I think we need a governor who will stand up for the LGBTQ community and the immigrant community and not be silent in the face of Donald Trump’s attacks.” “We’ve got to stand together so we can all stand for the planet,” said Cameron Davis, formerly President Barack Obama’s “Great Lakes czar,” who is running for a commissioner’s post for the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD). “It doesn’t get any simpler than that.” Sean Casten, a Democrat who is running against incumbent Peter Roskam (R) in the 6th Congressional District, added, “We are going to come through this horrible time, because there is more love in the world than there is hate, and today we can stay focused on that.” Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle said, “I think it’s important in these times that those of us who are despised minorities in our own country stick together. So I always try to come to this parade and I’m encouraged by the warm reception that I get.” Ald. Raymond Lopez (15th Ward) said that the parade is “not just a celebration but our annual call to arms to defend all required acceptances in our own communities. So I’m glad to be here with our brothers and sisters, making that call for acceptance one more time.” State Rep. Greg Harris (D-Chicago) said, “LGBT people got their rights when we stood up and fought up and fought back against oppression at Stonewall. This country, under Trump, is seeing oppression unlike what we’ve seen before, not only for LGBT people, but for our immigrant communities and people of color [as well]. We need to stand together in solidarity.” Other politicians who either attended and/or sent delegations included U.S. Reps. Mike Quigley (D-6th), Robin Kelly (D-2nd) and Jan Schakowsky (D-9th); Illinois Treasurer Mike Frerichs; state Comptroller Susana Mendoza; Democratic state Reps. Kelly Cassidy, Sara Feigenholtz and Juliana Stratton (running with Pritzker); City Clerk Anna Valencia; and Deb Mell was among several other aldermen marching. Mayoral candidates included Lori Lightfoot (marching with her wife), Paul Vallas, Dorothy Brown, Gary McCarthy and Ja’Mal Green. MWRD Board President Maryana Spyropulos and MWRD Commissioners Debra Shore and Kari Steele also attended, as did Cook County Commission candidate Kevin Morrison and Berwyn School Board Member Julia McAleer-Forte. Orlando “El Fenomeno” Cruz, the first openly gay active professional boxer, was grand marshal. Educational institutions participating included Nettelhorst School; Chicago Waldorf School; Francis W. Parker School & Catherine Cook School; Elmhurst College; Rush University; Truman College and other City Colleges; University of Illinois at Chicago; University of Chicago; and Northwestern University. Among local consulates participating were Australia (for the first time), Ireland, Great Britain, Canada and Israel. Advocacy organizations and agencies included American Veterans for Equal Rights (carrying their large American flag), ACLU of Illinois, Asians and Friends Chicago, La Casa Norte, Chicago Black Gay Men’s Caucus, PFLAG, Night Ministry, Lambda Legal, Equality Illinois, Planned Parenthood, Chicago Gender Society (marching with Heels & Hardhats), The Legacy Project, LGBT Chamber of Commerce of Illinois, Howard Brown Health, TPAN, Project VIDA; Thresholds, About Face Theatre, Windy City Performing Arts, Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus, Center on Halsted, ForeskinPride.org, AARP of Illinois, the National Gay Pilots Association, Human Rights Campaign, Mercy for Animals and the Obama Foundation. Lakeside Pride had dozens of its members performing during the parade. Also working hard were ROTC, Chicago Spirit Brigade and the Second City Outlaws dancing cowboys. There were three motorcycle groups this year, but not Dykes on Bikes: Bikes & Mics, Chicago Gay Bikers and Organized Chaos all powered through the route. Gay Liberation Network’s large contingent was largely focused on Palestinian rights for their entry. Both professional and amateur sports teams and organizations were represented, among them Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bulls, Chicago Blackhawks, Chicago Fire, Chicago Dragons, Chicago Smelts, Chicago Gay Hockey Association and Chicago Metropolitan Sports Association. Local businesses included Sidetrack, Roscoe’s, Balloons by Tommy, Evanston Subaru in Skokie, Broadway in Chicago, GRAB and Goose Island Beer. Dozens of area churches took part in Chicago Welcoming Churches’ entry, shouting, “God is love” as they traversed the parade route. Persons from Chicago-area synagogues also marched together. Labor Unions and trade organizations included Chicago Women in Trades, Local 881 United Food and Commercial Workers, Chicago Teachers Union, United Here Local 1 and SEIU Illinois. Among corporations represented by their LGBT groups were MB Financial Bank, Discover Financial Services, Bank of America, ComEd, Anheuser-Busch, Gap, Bloomingdales, Salesforce, Macy’s, Boeing, American Airlines, United Airlines, Hyatt Hotels, Hilton Hotels, Facebook, Google, Johnson & Johnson, Chipotle, WGN, Fox 32, ABC 7, NBC 5, Univision, Deloite, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, AT&T, Comcast, T-Mobile and Pepsico. MWRD Commisioner Debra Shore, shortly before the parade started, commented on how the LGBT community cuts across every sector of society, especially in terms of “race, class and gender,” adding, “That’s why it’s so important for us to stand up for others and for them to see us stand together in all our diversity.”)

In the March 20, 2018 Republican primary, of the township’s 130 precincts, of its 73 precincts on its west side, 40 were RED (between 35.5% and 17.8% of registered voters cast Republican ballots), 19 were YELLOW (between 17.6% and 13.2%), and 14 were BLUE (between 13.2% and 1.1%). Of its 57 precincts on its east side, only 3 were RED (between 35.5% and 17.8%), 25 were YELLOW (between 17.6% and 13.2%), and 29 were BLUE (between 13.2% and 1.1%). – Dave Diersen

(FROM THE ARTICLE: That was made clear during last weekend’s Republican Party of Iowa state convention, attended by roughly 1,200 party activists, leaders and elected officials. State party chairman Jeff Kaufmann devoted much of his remarks to the campaign for governor, but also rallied the crowd to express their support for the president. Kaufmann asked the crowd to show whether they support Trump, and nearly everyone in the building stood and cheered. “Keep it up, President Trump,” Kaufmann yelled during his typically fiery speech. Kaufmann told the crowd he realizes some of Trump’s tweets “make you pause,” but said Trump must use Twitter to communicate to his supporters.)

— Trump Valiantly Tried to Save America – Ilana Mercer
https://townhall.com/columnists/ilanamercer/2018/06/23/trump-valiantly-tried-to-save-america-n2493448
(FROM THE ARTICLE: By now most Americans, for or against, get the idea. All an individual or family need do to live in America, and off the avails of the American taxpayer, is to arrive at an approved port of entry and “lodge a legal claim to stay.” That’s it. The same understanding animates an entire, parasitical industry that has arisen to coach the claimants in their claims-making. The refugee and illegal-migrant racket sprung-up on the backs of the American people is Third World cronyism at its best. “The Trump administration plans to pay a Texas nonprofit nearly half a billion dollars, this year, to care for immigrant children who were detained crossing the U.S. border illegally, reports Bloomberg.” Did you vote for that? Brazen border-crossers “rarely hide from border agents,” for they know the rules of the game are that there aren’t any rules. Not for them, not for the lawless. The law-abiding pay. The profits from the immigration industry, material and political, are privatized; the costs are socialized. It has taken a president, in the person of Donald J. Trump, and his attorney general, Jeff Sessions, to expose for all to see a shameful, likely irreversible, fact: American birthright has been frittered away for a mess of pottage. In exchange for throwing America open to The World, Americans get crime, poverty, unemployment, depressed wages; environmental despoliation; overburdened public services, and zero comity and harmony across their communities. Or, more like hate. For to oppose this transformative political give-away is to be branded a hater and be hounded, at home, by a Fifth Column of values-enforcers. There’s no finessing it. This selling of the patrimony and heritage of Americans is theft, plain and simple. There is no hiding it. Peddling of stolen goods for political favors is the handiwork of political representatives, of legislators. Through legislative sleight-of-hand and international treaty making American politicians have incrementally robbed a people of their national and territorial sovereignty, as well as their shared identity.)

WASHINGTON EXAMINER
— Republicans ignore Trump, keep pushing to pass immigration reform – Susan Ferrechio (DIERSEN: If you claim to be a Republican, but you oppose E-Verify, you shout that you are a RINO who has been bought off by employers who want cheap labor. If you claim to be Republican, but you want “a more inclusive and easier pathway to citizenship for Dreamers,” you shout that you are a Democrat.)
https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/congress/republicans-ignore-trump-keep-pushing-to-pass-immigration-reform
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Republicans say negotiations now center on whether to add E-Verify and an immigrant agriculture program into the legislation, and many are hoping for a vote next week. Many conservatives have been clamoring for the bill to include a provision mandating employers use E-Verify to ensure new hires are legal. “It might be a difference maker,” Cole said. Meanwhile, an agriculture or “guest worker” program would attract votes from lawmakers whose districts rely on immigrant farm workers. . .The 41 GOP “no” votes were cast mostly by moderates who wanted a more inclusive and easier pathway to citizenship for Dreamers, who came illegally as children. The measure was authored by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va. It would provide legal status for about 700,000 Dreamers and offered a much more difficult pathway to citizenship. Conservatives say the leadership should simply take the Goodlatte bill and make a few changes to attract moderates, such as expanding the pathway to citizenship to all 1.8 million people who fit the Dreamer category. The Goodlatte measure, which is co-authored by Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul, R-Texas, includes both E-Verify and a guest worker program. It ends chain migration, the diversity visa lottery program, and authorizes border wall funding.)

https://www.brookings.edu/blog/the-avenue/2018/06/21/us-white-population-declines-and-generation-z-plus-is-minority-white-census-shows/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: he U.S. Census Bureau’s release of race and age statistics for 2017 points to two noteworthy milestones about the nation’s increasingly aging white and growing diverse population. First, for the first time since the Census Bureau has released these annual statistics, they show an absolute decline in the nation’s white non-Hispanic population—accelerating a phenomenon that was not projected to occur until the next decade. Second, the new numbers show that for the first time there are more children who are minorities than who are white, at every age from zero to nine. This means we are on the cusp of seeing the first minority white generation, born in 2007 and later, which perhaps we can dub Generation “Z-Plus.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Yesterday, Governor Bruce Rauner appeared on WJBC and was asked, “How important would an endorsement from Jeanne Ives be for you?” That’s right. It’s been more than three months since the primary, and just when candidates want to turn their attention to the general election, Rauner is still dealing with his fractured party. On WJBC, Rauner once again claimed he’s “reached out” to Ives, something he’s said before that was found not to be true. Who else is Rauner calling to reunite the party? None other than Rauner’s previous headache and Roy Moore’s biggest backer, Dick Uihlein. “It seems that time doesn’t heal all wounds as Bruce Rauner has failed to put his party back together after three months,” said DGA Illinois Communications Director Sam Salustro. “It’s clear Jeanne Ives and her supporters have not forgiven Rauner for his lies and failures.”)

The properties include a 6,870-square-foot mansion on a half-acre lot in Winnetka; two units, including a penthouse, in a luxury high-rise overlooking Millennium Park; a waterfront villa in the Florida Keys with a 72-foot-long pool; ranches in Montana and Wyoming; a condo in an upscale Utah ski resort; and a penthouse overlooking Central Park in New York. “Bruce Rauner owns nine homes and he’s appealed his property taxes 22 times, but now he’s attacking someone else for the same thing? But the bias continues. Forty-one percent of companies around the world surveyed by Deloitte Consulting said they considered aging of their workforces a competitive disadvantage. SEATTLE TIMES
— 8 big career mistakes that new college grads should avoid – Valencia Higuera (DIERSEN: After you earned your bachelor’s degree, did you take a job that did not require a bachelor’s degree? I did. In 1970, when I was 21 years old, after I earned a bachelor’s degree in management from NIU, I accepted the only job offer that I got – working for the Firestone Store in Chicago Heights. I was draft bait. Potential employers did not believe that my application for a financial hardship would be granted. Further, employers were under tremendous pressure to hire minorities, females, and veterans. 7 months later, after my draft deferment application had been approved, my Firestone boss fired me when I told him that I had accepted a job offer from Oldsmobile. But Oldsmobile withdrew that job offer saying that it had just agreed to stop hiring Whites to settle an EEOC complaint. That directly resulted in my accepting a job offer from IRS. IRS offered me the job because it could not find a qualified Democrat, minority, female, or veteran who would take it.)

But in defense of my outstanding parents, neither of them attended college. My father fought type 1 diabetes from age 14, was the first of his ancestors to earn a high school diploma, worked in the office of a nasty chemical plant in Chicago Heights, almost always worked second jobs to pay the family’s bills, did not buy a new car until he was 45 years old, a bottom of the line Chevy 2-door, and died suddenly of heart failure when he was 47 and I was 21. In 1970, I accepted a job offer from Firestone Stores. In 1971, I accepted a job offer from Oldsmobile. She draws on her experience in publishing, where, she said, she hired more than 200 young adults. “I managed them and coached them and brought them on to some really great careers,” she said. “I helped them realize their full potential.” On the surface, college graduates have it good. The unemployment rate for adults 25 and older with a college degree dropped to 2.0 percent in May, compared with 3.9 percent for those in the same age group with a high school diploma and 5.4 percent for those who did not graduate from high school, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Overall unemployment was 3.8 percent in May, an 18-year low. But what those statistics do not show is how workers feel about the quality of their jobs and whether the jobs are leading to a career. They also do not dip into the pressure graduates can feel to find a job that is meaningful.)

Graduate courses at public universities can be up to $700 per credit, while a single course at a private college can cost more than $3,300. That means that it can cost anywhere from $20,000 to more than $100,000 to earn an advanced degree. CRAIN’S CHICAGO BUSINESS

http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20180615/BLOGS02/180619894/roskams-intriguing-immigration-move
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In what some are interpreting as a clear break with the president, embattled west suburban U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam, R-Wheaton, is putting some distance between himself and the Trump administration on the volatile issue of whether to seize and separately hold the children of immigrant parents who are arrested for illegally trying to enter the country. But the size and duration of the distance isn’t quite clear yet. And Roskam’s Democratic re-election foe, Sean Casten, promptly attacked Roskam’s action as inadequate. Roskam’s move came in a statement late yesterday, in which he said that “dragging children away from their parents” should not be a means to securing the U.S. border. “The events unfolding at our nation’s borders are heartbreaking. Being forcibly separated from a child is a parent’s worst nightmare and I cannot fathom the pain these families are enduring,” said Roskam, who already was under pressure from major donors and others to do something to break the immigration standoff. “Every day these children spend apart from their parents, confused, scared, and alone, inflicts additional and unnecessary trauma.” “While I believe we have a responsibility to secure our borders, I also believe that how we treat strangers reflects the moral values this country was founded on. Dragging children away from their parents ought not be a part of the solution,” he continued. “I stand with residents of the 6th District and urge the Department of Justice and Homeland Security to reverse the zero tolerance policy that removes children from their parents at the border.” U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions shows no sign of doing so. In a speech yesterday, he even cited a Bible passage—once used to defend slavery—in arguing that God wants citizens to obey the laws of their country. All he’s doing is enforcing a law that Democrats and former President Barack Obama could have changed, Sessions and Trump have said. But Obama didn’t enforce the law in the way Session has, grabbing pre-teen children and holding them in camps and other facilities sometimes thousands of miles away, with little if any contact with their parents. So, what is Roskam going to do to pursue his views and change U.S policy? Roskam’s spokeswoman said he would have supported compromise legislation that House Speaker Paul Ryan is pushing to end family division while giving Trump some things he wants, such as money for the Mexican wall. But Trump today said he wouldn’t sign it, dealing the bill a possibly fatal blow. Given that, what will Roskam do now to turn up pressure on Sessions, Trump and others to back off? Roskam apparently wants to let the dust settle for a few days and see what happens next. Casten is pouncing. “Congress is supposed to be a ‘check’ on the President, not a rubber stamp. It’s clear that neither the Department of Justice nor the Department of Homeland security will act against the president’s wishes,” Casten’s campaign said in a statement. “So we need a Congress with the backbone to pass a law and make this stop. Peter Roskam won’t do it. Sean Casten will. And that’s the fundamental difference in this campaign between an independent Democrat and a Trump Republican who votes with his leader 94 percent of the time.” No word yet on where the Chicago area’s two other GOP congressmen, Randy Hultgren of Plano and Adam Kinzinger of Channahon, stand. But watch for this issue to get increased attention because, even today, TV film of scared kids locked up away from their mom and dad is horrible politics.)

— Promoted six times and then fired: Inside a 24-year-old political appointee Taylor Weyeneth’s wild ride in Trump’s Washington – Robert O’Harrow Jr. (DIERSEN: When did you start earning $100,000-a-year in to today’s dollars (GS-13 Step 3)? I did in 1988 when I was 40 years old.

(FROM THE ARTICLE: He was one of the fastest-rising political appointees of the Trump administration, an unpaid campaign intern with no professional experience who soared into a top job with a six-figure salary at the White House’s drug policy office. But on Jan. 14, in the hours after a front-page Washington Post story cast doubt on his résumé and qualifications, 24-year-old Taylor Weyeneth was feeling vulnerable. “Can I ask you what the plan is for me now,” Weyeneth texted the White House official who had promoted him. “You’re fine. No action required,” Sean Doocey, then deputy director of the Office of Presidential Personnel, wrote back. “It is garbage journalism by a garbage newspaper.” Two months later, Weyeneth was gone — demoted, told not to speak publicly and finally fired as the political fallout spread. This is the inside account of a political appointee’s time in Trump’s Washington. It’s the story of a young operative whose central qualification was loyalty and whose responsibilities included furnishing the White House with intelligence about career employees at a time when the administration distrusts the standing bureaucracy to an unusual degree.)

HARVARD BUSINESS REVIEW
— MAY 21, 2018 FLASHBACK: Why It’s So Hard to Speak Up Against a Toxic Culture – Francesca Gino (DIERSEN: I should write a book about the toxic culture in GAO’s Chicago office while I worked there 1980-1997. The culture was especially toxic for its employees who were Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)
https://hbr.org/2018/05/why-its-so-hard-to-speak-up-against-a-toxic-culture
(FROM THE ARTICLE: One reason people don’t speak up is the significant risk of doing so. Challenging the status quo threatens people’s status and relationships with supervisors and coworkers, research shows. Speaking up can also result in negative performance evaluation, undesirable job assignments, or even termination. Most people are aware of these potential costs; as a result, most stay quiet about bias, injustice, and mistreatment. Then there is the bystander effect: When a person is in trouble, others who are present often fail to intervene, whether because they assume other people will or because they think it’s not their place to act. The more costly intervening would be, the less likely we are to do so.)

http://www.windycitymediagroup.com/lgbt/EI-Urges-Gov-Rauner-to-Extend-Non-Discrimination-Protections-to-All-Illinois-Workplaces-/63218.html

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Equality Illinois urges Gov. Bruce Rauner to sign legislation that would extend Illinois’ workplace non-discrimination protections to businesses of all sizes in the state and ensure all Illinoisans have access to the legal tools of justice when they experience employment discrimination. Under current law, workers in businesses of 14 and fewer employees outside of Cook County can still be fired for being LGBTQ, a racial minority, a woman, because of their faith, and for other reasons based on their personal identities. The Illinois General Assembly passed the important civil rights measure, House Bill 4572, ending that exclusion and extending protections to thousands more workers, with bipartisan support during the spring session. The bill was delivered to the governor’s office on Thursday.)

June 15 Morning Edition

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— PLEASE CONSIDER HELPING SPONSOR WHEATON’S INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE AND FIREWORKS! So far, $1,950 has been pledged, but $550 more is needed. Illinois Republican Party leader and Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar has pledged $500 and Judge Jeff MacKay has pledged $250. Bob Berlin, Dan Cronin, Tim Elliott, Amy Grant, Gwen Henry, Paul Hinds, Marty Keller, Dave Molitor, John Monino, Chris Nybo, Peter Roskam, and Darlene Ruscitti have each made $100 pledges. Of course, I have promised the Wheaton Park District, the organizer of the parade and fireworks, that I will cover any fundraising shortfall.

As a $2,500 Star sponsor, DuPage County Republicans will get credit for sponsoring the Tunes of Glory bagpipers and the Wheaton North and South High School bands in the parade. DuPage Republicans will again have a booth at the fireworks the evening before the parade. I will again hand deliver a flyer to all the residences and businesses on the parade route that lists the Republican entries in the parade, the Republican sponsors, and the amount that they contributed. The flyers will be printed courtesy of Alpha Graphics and I plan on delivering them on Thursday, June 21. Please phone me at 630-653-0462 about sponsorship and mail a check made out to the Wheaton Park District for $100 or more to me ASAP at 915 Cove Court, Wheaton, Illinois 60189-6326.

So far, Republican entries in the parade are Peter Roskam, Peter Breen/Amy Grant, Paul Hinds, James Mendrick, Grant Eckhoff/Tim Elloitt/Chris Zaruba, Jeff McKay, Karen Wilson, and Milton Township Republican Central Committee. Please help me encourage Republican candidates on November 6 ballots in Wheaton a) to have an entry in Wheaton’s Independence Day parade and b) to help sponsor the parade. Those candidates include Bruce Rauner and Evelyn Sanguinetti, Erika Harold, Jason Helland, Darlene Senger, Jim Dodge, Mike Connelly, Chris Nybo, Darlene Ruscitti, Dan Cronin, Gwen Henry, Kevin Wiley, Jim Zay, Al Murphy, and Joseph Cantore. In the United States, a person must prove that 1) the statement was false, 2) caused harm, and 3) was made without adequate research into the truthfulness of the statement. These steps are for an ordinary citizen. For a celebrity or public official, a person must prove the first three steps, and that the statement was made with the intent to do harm or with reckless disregard for the truth, which is usually specifically referred to as “actual malice.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Last week, with a high-stakes summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un on the horizon and plenty of news coverage in the Daily Herald and elsewhere about an “Impeach Trump” yard sign in Elgin, Ernest Lasse decided that someone ought to show some support for the president. Lasse installed in front of his Mount Prospect home a roughly 15-square-foot plywood sign reading “TRUMP” in big red letters, surrounded by the words “Make America Great Again.” Not being naive, Lasse knew the sign wouldn’t be popular with everyone. He set up a camera in his front window to capture video of anyone who would do the sign harm. Sure enough, footage shows that a pair of young men came along about 9:30 p.m. Friday and stole the sign from the yard. Lasse found pieces of it the next morning on the bank of nearby Weller Creek. Police were called, reports were written and charges are possible. But before he pursues a formal complaint, Lasse has an offer he hopes the vandals can’t refuse.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam (R-Ill.) broke from the Trump administration on Thursday and called on the Department of Justice and Homeland Security to reverse a zero tolerance policy that separates children from their parents at the border. Roskam’s comments come amid a national debate that grew more acrimonious on Thursday after U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions defended the practice, citing the Bible: “I would cite you to the Apostle Paul and his clear and wise command in Romans 13, to obey the laws of the government because God has ordained them for the purpose of order. If you cross the Southwest border unlawfully, then the Department of Homeland Security will arrest you and the Department of Justice will prosecute you. Having children does not give you immunity from arrest and prosecution.” At a contentious White House press briefing, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders defended that stance, saying: “I can say that it is very biblical to enforce the law. That is actually repeated a number of times throughout the Bible.” Roskam joins other Republicans, including Speaker Paul Ryan, to raise concerns with the policy. Roskam’s statement on Thursday called for a full reversal. “The events unfolding at our nation’s borders are heartbreaking. Being forcibly separated from a child is a parent’s worst nightmare and I cannot fathom the pain these families are enduring. Every day these children spend apart from their parents, confused, scared, and alone, inflicts additional and unnecessary trauma,” Roskam said in a statement. “While I believe we have a responsibility to secure our borders, I also believe that how we treat strangers reflects the moral values this country was founded on. Dragging children away from their parents ought not be a part of the solution.” Roskam has been under intense pressure by both constituents and donors to come up with a resolution on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. Roskam’s suburban district has the largest DACA population of any Illinois member, according to the Illinois Business Immigration Commission. He’s faced regular protests in his district, including from advocates who have called for him to fix DACA.)

http://dailytorch.com/2018/06/did-an-obama-executive-order-force-the-government-to-hire-unqualified-applicants/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Employees should be hired based on their ability to complete the tasks they have been assigned and nothing else. Yet under the Obama administration, hiring practices for the federal government were moved away from merit to fulfill goals irrelevant to the positions. Policies intended to simplify the federal government application process had the consequence of increasing politicization in the federal workforce and overburdening human resource offices. In May 2010, former President Barack Obama issued a memorandum on Improving the Federal Recruitment and Hiring Process. This memorandum directed agencies to simplify their application process to “eliminate any requirement that applicants respond to essay-style questions” and allowed individuals to submit resumes and cover letters or complete “simple, plain language” instead. The result was a flood of new applications. According to Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning, the goal was not just to increase hiring in the federal government but to increase political hiring. Manning notes, “The 2010 memorandum was always intended to give Obama supporters an easier path to enter the civil service. By overwhelming human resource departments with applications, it accomplished just that.” This was the first of several presidential orders to reshape the federal workforce.)

— Why settling for a subpar job right out of college can hurt your career for years – Alexia Elejalde-Ruiz (DIERSEN: After you earned your bachelor’s degree, did you take a job that did not require a bachelor’s degree? 7 months later, after my application had been approved, my Firestone boss fired me when I told him that I had accepted a job offer from Oldsmobile.

He has seen cousins and friends abandon ambitions and fall into the rut of low-wage work when life gets in the way. “I’m worried about not following through on my plans,” said Villagomez, 27, who spent five years in the Marine Corps before enrolling at University of Illinois at Chicago, where he majored in economics and minored in biology. “Sometimes it’s easier to get stuck in these other fields.”)

There’s a lot to overhaul, because 40 percent of Metra’s existing fleet predates the system’s launch in the 1980s. Some cars still in use, inherited from private railroads that once ran suburban service, date back to the Eisenhower administration.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: “Tonight, I ask you to please consider protecting your constituents and the voters and the taxpayers of Sangamon County,” said Springfield resident Rosanna Pulido. “Please pass a resolution to make Sangamon County a sanctuary for gun owners.” Other Illinois counties, including nearby Christian County, have adopted gun sanctuary resolutions. The terminology comes from so-called sanctuary cities, such as Chicago, that don’t cooperate with aspects of federal immigration enforcement. Speaking before the meeting, Sangamon County Administrator Brian McFadden said the county has an informal policy that it does not weigh in on symbolic measures that are outside its regulatory authority. Even if the county were to pass a gun sanctuary resolution, it would not affect the enforcement of federal, state or local gun laws. . .“This is not a symbolic resolution. It is a defense of the Constitutional principle. It is incumbent on our local elected officials to make sure their constituents’ voices are heard by the state in regards to protecting the Constitution. You took an oath of office to that effect,” Pulido said. Pulido, as well as Springfield residents Tom Shafer and Lynn Wilson, spoke at the end of the county board meeting. Board members did not comment or ask them any questions.)

Anybody can come on the job and learn it, but we want our auditor to have a CIA, Certified Internal Auditor.” The county is not seeking professionals in other elected posts. Hranka said under statute, the sheriff, coroner and others are not required to have experience in the field pertaining to the position they are running for. http://www.telegraphherald.com/ap/national/article_2a180d26-6abd-5e63-801b-595d374b1ec0.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Lamanta Reese lived much of his gang life in virtual reality, posting videos on YouTube of him and others taunting rivals. He died at age 19 in the real world, bleeding from his head onto a porch on Chicago’s South Side after one of those gang rivals, prosecutors say, shot him 11 times. Another possible factor in his slaying: A smiley-face emoji Reese posted that the suspected gunman may have interpreted as a slight about his mom. Gangs’ embrace of social media to goad foes or conceal drug dealing in emoji-laden text is the biggest change in how gangs operate compared with 10 years ago, according to new law enforcement data provided exclusively to The Associated Press ahead of its release Tuesday by the Chicago Crime Commission. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other sites have radically altered gang culture in Chicago. They are having a similar influence on gangs nationwide. These days, there is nearly always a link between an outbreak of gang violence and something online, said Rodney Phillips, a gang-conflict mediator working in the low-income Englewood neighborhood where Reese lived and died. When he learns simmering tensions have spilled into violence, he no longer goes first to the streets. “I Google it,” Phillips said. “I look on YouTube and Facebook. Today, that’s how you follow the trail of a conflict.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Pritzker campaign wasted no time hanging President Donald Trump around Gov. Bruce Rauner’s neck on Tuesday, just hours after the governor made a rare positive statement about the Trump White House. He did it, of course, without saying the president’s name. “I am very proud of what’s been going on in the federal government, Congress, and the White House,” Rauner said at a Downstate stop. Rauner is well aware that if he hopes to have any chance in November, he needs to reach out to the Republican base in southern Illinois, which is solid Trump country. Look no further than Rep. Mark Sanford’s loss last night, after Trump tweeted support for Sanford’s opponent, state Rep. Katie Arrington, as evidence of what can happen to Republicans who dump on Trump.)

DAILY SIGNAL
— Trump Executive Orders Are Surprisingly Popular With Federal Employees – John York (DIERSEN: The Democrats who run the federal government use Affirmative Action, Diversity, and Inclusion to get rid of their employees who are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran. My Democrat superiors in the federal government acted like their employees who were Democrat, minority, female, younger, and/or veteran wanted them to get rid of their employees who were Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran. Assessing job performance is extremely subjective. The Democrats who run the federal government use that subjectivity to get rid of federal employee who are Republican, White, male, and/or non-veteran who they did not promote to GS-13 (currently $96,403) by age 25, GS-14 (currently $113,920) by age 30, GS-15 (currently $134,000) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service (currently $164,200) by age 40.)
https://www.dailysignal.com/2018/06/12/trump-executive-orders-are-surprisingly-popular-with-federal-employees/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: When President Donald Trump recently issued three executive orders that made it easier to fire poorly performing government employees, the backlash from public-sector unions was fierce. Union leaders did not like it—one called it an “assault on federal employees.” But a recent poll shows a slight majority of government workers—51 percent—supports the administration’s efforts. Moreover, only 24 percent of federal employees oppose the recent executive orders and another quarter are unsure. The level of support among federal workers for executive orders that will make it easier to fire them is surprising, but only at first glance. In fact, Trump’s executive orders represent modest reforms that will not affect the vast majority of employees and, in fact, likely will improve their working conditions. For instance, one of the new executive orders imposes a 30-day limit on the time an agency can give an employee to improve his poor performance before being fired. When a federal manager determines that an employee is not up to the job, he must present that employee with a performance improvement plan as a last-ditch effort to turn his performance around. Prior to the president’s executive order, agencies set the length of this grace period, which stretched to 120 days in some cases. The new executive order also gives managers more freedom to decide how to punish misconduct. Prior to Trump’s executive orders, managers were ordinarily bound to progress through lesser disciplinary steps from verbal warning and written notices to suspensions, demotions, and removal from the civil service. Now, managers are free to choose a punishment that fits the crime. Some federal employees no doubt take advantage of their insulation from accountability, but most civil servants are hard-working and dedicated—a fact attested to by the 70 percent customer satisfaction rate among those who receive some federal service. These diligent workers must pick up the slack for those who do not do their share, then are sometimes denied opportunities for advancement by the dead weight above them. And, as anyone who has worked in an office environment knows, unmotivated and unruly co-workers can take a heavy toll on morale. So, although a few bad apples may prefer to keep the status quo, it is not surprising most federal employees welcome these provisions of the president’s executive orders.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: There’s a lot of debate about the differences in working conditions that public-sector and private-sector workers face. Some private-sector workers who have seen many of their employee benefits deteriorate or disappear entirely over the years believe their public-sector counterparts get benefit packages that are too expensive for taxpayers to maintain. Public-sector employees can point to base salaries that have historically often been lower than what they could make in the private sector as a justification for additional benefits to make up the difference.)

https://communityjournal.net/3-surprises-to-watch-out-for-when-paying-for-long-term-care/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: More than 70 percent of Americans over the age of 65 will need long-term health care services, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Yet, according to the Employee Benefit Research Institute, only 13 percent of those who received professional home health care had long-term insurance policies, which can protect seniors from high out-of-pocket costs. “There is a wide gap of people without long-term care insurance (LTCI), and some of the alternatives carry little-known laws and legal liabilities that can pose a problem to the care recipient and their family, says CHRIS ORESTIS, Executive Vice President of GWG Life (www.gwglife.com ) and author of the books Help on the Way and A Survival Guide to Aging. “The growing long-term care funding crisis has brought lawsuits and mandated claw-back actions against families in attempts to recover monies spent on long-term care,” Orestis says. “There is a growing need for consumers to consider all their available financial options to fund long-term care, and that can include selling a life insurance policy.” “Often the weight for long-term care falls on the family, and they need to avoid a financial surprise that can come late in life for their loved ones.”)
