ABC7
— VP-ELECT MIKE PENCE VISITS CHICAGO FOR FUNDRAISER – Diane Pathieu and Laura Podesta
http://abc7chicago.com/politics/vp-elect-mike-pence-visits-chicago-for-fundraiser/1678382/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Vice President-elect Mike Pence was in Chicago Friday for a fundraiser at the Chicago Club. The fundraiser drew GOP heavy hitters, but dozens protested Pence’s arrival, too. The vice president-elect avoided those protests his motorcade entered through a secure area blocked off to the public by police and secret service. Once inside the Chicago Club, people who attended the private fundraiser said Pence was upbeat and thankful. Vice President elect-Mike Pence was in good spirits — smiling and waving — as he left a private fundraiser at the Chicago Club Friday. Several Illinois Republican leaders were among the 60 in attendance. “It was very upbeat. Raised a lot money for the Republican National Committee. He talked about his experience on the road, and the campaign,” said Illinois House Republican Leader Jim Durkin. Governor Bruce Rauner was traveling for the holiday season and was not in attendance. Those who were there said Pence kept it light, and did not go into topics like job creation, even though that’s what Tim Schneider, Chairman of the Illinois Republican Party, said he hopes Pence will bring to our state. “People are leaving because there are no jobs. I think we need to bring jobs back to those communities were people have choices; and don’t choose to join gangs and do those types of things. Give them a job,” Schneider said. Kirk Dillard is chair of the Regional Transit Authority, which oversees the CTA, Metra, and Pace is ready to lobby Pence into spending more money on railroad infrastructure. “I clearly want Governor Pence, whose father was a bus driver in Chicago, to understand the need for mass transit like we have in Chicago,” Dillard said. Throughout the duration of the two hour fundraiser protesters chanted and held signs outside. Betty Virginia Holcomb is concerned with Pence’s track record of wanting to defund Planned Parenthood and restrict access to abortions. “Mike Pence has already put in place restrictive actions in the state of Indiana that restrict women’s access to reproductive rights and other types of healthcare,” she said. Glenn Pannell, who looks remarkably similar to the VP-elect, came all the way from New York to take a stand and support Planned Parenthood and LGBTQ organizations. “Mike Pence is out here raising money for the next four years…I’m out here raising money and awareness for people and causes that are important to me and unimportant to Mike Pence,” Pannell said. Tickets for the fundraiser cost $2,700 and up. The event raised hundreds of thousands of dollars that will go to the Republican National Committee to pay for multiple transition costs. As far as those protesters, they said they will be back out Saturday holding a demonstration in front of Trump Tower.)

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/92231708-132.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Vice President-elect Mike Pence appeared at a Chicago fundraiser Friday where the Illinois GOP hoped to raise as much as $1 million for the Republican National Committee. On the host committee for the $2,700-per-ticket fundraiser were some of Illinois’ most prominent Republicans, including Gov. Bruce Rauner, seven of the eight Illinois GOP congressmen and Ron Gidwitz, a businessman who led President-elect Donald Trump’s Illinois campaign fundraising effort. The Indiana governor arrived in the Loop shortly before 11 a.m. and entered the Chicago Club through a back door not visible from the barricaded sidewalks in front of the building. Pence was not greeted by protesters, although they arrived later while he was inside. Illinois Republican Chairman Tim Schneider said a fractured state party during the primary season has since coalesced around Trump and Pence. “Chicago is the hub of the Midwest and it’s also very close to his roots in Indiana, so he can draw from those folks who are supporters from Indiana,” said Schneider, a Cook County commissioner, of Pence’s visit to the city. “I think we have a great number of supporters here in Chicago who believe in this new Trump-Pence administration, and that’s why they’re here.” Not listed as part of the host committee were U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk and U.S. Rep. Robert Dold of Kenilworth, who distanced themselves from Trump but ultimately lost their re-election bids last month. Rauner has been reluctant to even say Trump’s name, which didn’t stop Democrats from cobbling together a TV attack ad during the fall attempting to link the governor to the GOP standard bearer. Rauner confirmed that he has spoken to Trump since the election. Rauner did not attend the event, however, as he had traveled out West with his family. About 150 protesters gathered at Michigan Avenue and Van Buren Street. Many of them waved signs that read “We say no to racism, sexism & war!” Among the chants they repeated: “Our bodies, our lives, our right to decide!” and “Racist, sexist, anti-gay! Mike Pence go away!” and “No Trump, no Pence! No KKK! No fascist USA!”There was, however, a Trump supporter who responded to the chants through a megaphone of his own. The man, who only would identify himself by the fake name of “Alexander Hamilton,” was approached by a handful of demonstrators who screamed and cursed at him as a Chicago police officer watched nearby. “Donald Trump will make America great again!” the man chanted over and over again. A Republican official indicated the fundraiser was expected to raise $500,000 to $1 million. Those making the maximum $33,400 contribution got a roundtable and photo with Pence, while those contributing $10,000 got a photo with him.)

DAILY HERALD
— Lisle, Warrenville residents pushing for annexation to Naperville – Bob Smith
http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20161230/news/161239939/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Naperville could become a much, much larger city if some residents in at least three neighboring towns have their way. Apparently spurred by the recent emphasis on government consolidation in DuPage County, residents in Lisle and Warrenville are circulating petitions to place referendum questions on the April 4 ballot to measure support for proposals to annex their communities to Naperville. A similar petition has been rumored to be circulating in Woodridge. Officials in all four towns said Friday they don’t know what’s behind the effort and stress that the complexities and likely resistance to such consolidations make them extremely unlikely. Lisle Mayor Joseph Broda said he first heard about the push earlier this month when Warrenville officials contacted leaders in all three towns — along with Woodridge — to alert them to the petition drives. “It’s hard to figure this one out,” Broda said. Warrenville Mayor David Brummel says he would oppose any effort to annex his city into Naperville. Warrenville Mayor David Brummel said his city’s assistant city manager, Cristina White, first learned of the campaign when she saw a man soliciting signatures for a petition outside the public library. A Chicago man who declined to be identified was collecting signatures on an annexation petition Friday afternoon outside the library. “I had no idea it was going on in other towns, too,” Brummel said. “I’ve been mayor for 12 years and I’ve never heard of anyone interested in annexing to Naperville.”)

The tide could be beginning to change, thanks to a visit to Chicago on Friday by Vice President-Elect Mike Pence that’s being organized by Wheaton resident and GOP fundraiser Lisa Wagner, who developed deep ties over the years with Republican officials in Indiana, Pence’s home state. “Pence didn’t come to Illinois during the campaign,” says Wagner, who tells me she had a week to organize the 11 a.m. Chicago Club event, after the Republican National Committee called and told her Pence was available. “He’s been around Donald Trump in a way few others have, and this is an opportunity for people to hear about his vision and what it’s like.” The event’s host committee includes GOP Gov. First of all, midterm elections almost always favor the party that doesn’t hold the White House. And given the animosity Democratic voters hold toward Donald Trump, particularly in blue states such as Illinois, Rauner likely will be swimming against the tide. It doesn’t mean he will drown, but it will be a tougher race than when he first captured the Executive Mansion. And I make that statement reluctantly. Of all of the governors who have served in my lifetime, he comes the closest to matching my own libertarian ideology. I want government out of my wallet and out of our private lives. But Illinoisans are weary of the constant war between Madigan and Rauner. Rauner views his election as a voter indictment of the longtime political boss, who he blames for Illinois’ fiscal ills. And he’s right for blaming Madigan. But Rauner has done a poor job of messaging about why he is engaged in this struggle. I’ve covered every governor since James R. Thompson, and this administration has done the worst job by far of sharing its vision for the state. Because of this, voters view this conflict as a personality clash between two egos rather than a conflict between divergent political philosophies.)

CONSERVATIVE HQ
— Transition to Trump: Trump receives warning from the affirmative action police – Jeffrey A. Rendall  (DIERSEN: How bad are your demographics?  My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes stress that my demographics are terrible – conservative, Republican, American, White, male, old (68), non-poor, gun owner, 100% German-American, baptized, raised, and confirmed as a Missouri Synod Lutheran, ancestors have been in America since the 1840s, childless, no pets, American-nameplate car owner, union member for almost 12 years, federal employee for almost 30 years, retired federal employee for more the 19 years, overweight, etc.)
http://www.conservativehq.com/article/24795-transition-trump-trump-receives-warning-affirmative-action-police
(FROM THE ARTICLE: As the Donald Trump transition team has worked diligently since Election Day to find the most qualified people to serve in leadership roles in his upcoming administration, the forces of the left are keeping score — not only in terms of the backgrounds and histories of the nominees, but also on what they look like. Of course there have been a plethora of media reports about Trump choosing too many out-of-touch rich people, militaristic generals and greedy profit-centered business tycoons to run federal departments. But what’s really bothering liberals the most is the lack of so-called “diversity” in Trump’s proposed leadership circle. S.A. Miller writes in the Washington Times, “A top adviser to Donald Trump on diversity issues is offering no apologies for the preponderance of white men filling the Cabinet and key jobs in the new administration, insisting that the lack of minorities reflected the president-elect’s color-blind approach to hiring decisions. “Bruce Levell, who spearheaded a minority outreach effort for the Trump campaign and now serves as an adviser to the transition team, said that Mr. Trump isn’t looking to check off diversity boxes with his hiring decisions — and that’s OK with black and Hispanic Americans.” Well, it’s not okay to the most race-conscious black and Hispanic Americans. They want to see as many non-white faces surrounding Trump as possible. Miller also notes that of 18 Cabinet-level picks so far, Mr. Trump has selected 13 white men, two women of Asian descent and one white woman. The only black nominee so far is retired neurosurgeon and former presidential candidate Ben Carson, tapped to run the Department of Housing and Urban Development. And that’s not all — of seven senior counselors named to his point, only Kellyanne Conway has two X chromosomes. Almost sounds like a poker game, doesn’t it? There’s little doubt that “affirmative action” will be a hot topic for the left in assaulting the Trump administration in the coming years. Whereas our society judges organizations such as the NFL for the quantity of minority coaches it employs, the left will certainly be counting the number of minorities in positions close to Trump – and they’re not going to like what they see. These same people may not feel as much angst towards the dearth of representation of women, however, because to liberals, Republican and conservative women don’t count towards their quotas. To them, if a woman doesn’t have some sort of bra-burning advocacy for abortion on demand in her background, she doesn’t count towards membership in the female gender. And the same definitely goes for homosexuals as well, or as is more commonly accepted these days, folks in the “LGBTQ community.” (What exactly does the “Q” – queer – demographic constitute that isn’t covered by the other letters?) It’s common knowledge that close Trump advisor Peter Thiel is homosexual, but he hasn’t yet been offered an official position in the administration, so he won’t count towards an affirmative action head count either. In fact, Thiel is enduring the usual level of leftist hatred for his willingness to work with Trump. As a candidate to lead the Food and Drug Administration, Thiel is being attacked from all sides. Robert Goldberg writes at The Hill, “Trump has promised to find ways to accelerate the pace of medical innovation. And so groups such as Public Citizen and the Center for American Progress that make a living and maintain a media presence bashing the pharmaceutical industry are howling that Thiel wants to water down the scientific and conflict of interests standards regulating the FDA and NIH, in order to allow Big Pharma to get rich by exposing consumers to dangerous, ineffective treatments.” While it’s true that in this case the liberals aren’t specifically targeting Thiel’s sexual orientation, the fact that “one of them” is actually advocating for loosening government controls must anger them to the core. The same goes for their opposition to Ben Carson taking over the direction of HUD. If a black man favors more private enterprise in housing, that’s a bad thing. Meanwhile, the media and liberals fail to note that Trump has placed several Jewish individuals in prominent roles. Commerce and Treasury nominees Wilbur Ross and Steve Mnuchin are both Jewish, right? Muslims must feel slighted. I’m sure that’s the way the left looks at it. It all doesn’t really matter, however. When push comes to shove, Trump could assemble a cabinet chock full of so-called ethnic minorities, women and folks with alternative lifestyles and he would still be labeled as racially and culturally biased by the left because of his colorblind policies. They’re not interested in someone’s background half as much as what he or she believes government’s role should be in enforcing the leftist accepted cultural norms. Need proof? George W. Bush elevated African-Americans to positions never held before by people of color and was there any credit given? Wasn’t Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice black enough? Does Elaine Chao lose her Asian identity because she’s a Republican and is married to Mitch McConnell? And we don’t even need to mention Justice Clarence Thomas here, a man who’s endured decades of race hatred and scorn because he dares to be conservative and black at the same time. So don’t give too much credence to the left’s ethnic scorecard where Trump’s team is concerned. There’s just no way to satisfy them, short of packing his cabinet with the Eric Holders and Loretta Lynches of the world.)

CANADA FREE PRESS
— Trump has turned the enemy’s tactics against itself  Revisiting Rules for Radicals: A Trump Campaign Guide Book – Robert Klein Engler  (DIERSEN: Each and every one of my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes ARE DISCIPLES OF SAUL ALINSKY.)
http://canadafreepress.com/article/revisiting-rules-for-radicals-a-trump-campaign-guide-book
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Can we say anything more about Donald Trump and his election campaign that has not already been said? Let’s look again at Saul Alinsky’s book RULES FOR RADICALS. Could it be that Trump used some of Alinsky’s ideas to win the election? RULES FOR RADICALS was first published in 1971. That’s almost 50 years ago. Here is a book dedicated to Lucifer. Remember him? Not the light bearer, but he who goes by another name: SATAN. Here is a book that supposedly influenced Barack Obama when he was a community organizer in Chicago. Here is also a book that influenced a young Hillary Clinton when she was growing up in Park Ridge, a suburb of Chicago. Perhaps the most important point Alinsky makes in the preface to his book is that the new radicals (1960s-70s) have to work within the system. Change happens by corroding the system from the inside out. Did Trump realize that and worked to change the Republican Party from the inside out? Consider what has happened in higher education since the 60s. The old radicals are now in the system. In fact, the radicals of the 60s ARE the system. They are the ones who now ought to be exposed and displaced. f we were to follow Alinsky’s advice, today, we would have to oppose the system, we would have to support Donald Trump who ran for president as an outsider. When discussing the relationship between means and ends in politics, Alinsky manages to turn self-aggrandizement into a virtue. Alinsky claims, “He who sacrifices the mass good for his personal conscience…doesn’t care enough for the people to be “‘corrupted’ for them.” Isn’t this a most profound insight into what motivates the Clintons and other Democrats in politics today? The Clintons (Obama, too) have persuaded the “people” that they are working for the good of the masses and their alleged personal corruption is the sacrifice they make for that end. Some Democrat politicians will lie and fornicate because in the end they believe their personal vices are unimportant because their politics will abolish poverty, bring about an end to racial discrimination, and install world peace. All of this is done in the light, while in the shadows we see they care little about the masses. Their true end is power and self-aggrandizement. Remember the old union song, “The working class can kiss my #, I’ve got the foreman’s job at last.” Be that as it may, is it possible to learn something from Alinsky, to out Alinsky, so that we may change our society for the better, instead of changing it for the better of politicians and elites? When it comes to tactics, Alinsky is at his practical best. Ironically, he offers advice for those who would today overthrow those who read and used his book, yesterday. Alinsky claims, “Power is not only what you have, but what the enemy thinks you have.” Has this not been one of the underlying themes that moved the Trump campaign forward? Consider the attendance at a Trump rally compared to the attendance at a Clinton rally. Beyond that, consider how Trump’s campaign has applied Alinsky’s rule number three: “Whenever possible, go outside the experience of the enemy.” Among other things, the debates between Clinton and Trump offered a good example of going outside the experience of the enemy. When Trump makes the tweet that he will bring to sit in the audience one of the women of Bill Clinton had an extramarital affair with, he has gone outside the experience of the enemy. The Trump campaign is a classical example of going outside the experience of not only the Democrats, but the media and the chattering elites as well. The media calls Trump unpredictable and blustering. Instead, Trump is the new radical, using Alinksy against Alinsky. If Alinsky’s book has any relevance today, it is to establish the Trump campaign as the new radicals. By wining the election, Trump has undone the old undoers. Trump has turned the enemy’s tactics against itself.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— After Democratic sit-in, Ryan wants to end grandstanding with fines, ethics violations – Billy House
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/politics/ct-ryan-house-fines-20161224-story.html
— Singapore teen blogger Amos Yee detained at O’Hare, reportedly wants asylum  (DIERSEN: Yee should be aware that in America, under the Democrats, you are severely punished if you do not promote dependency on government, LGBTQ activity, abortion, mass/illegal immigration, booze, pot, video gambling, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, abolition of the First and Second Amendments, etc.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-singapore-teen-blogger-asylum-ohare-20161224-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Human Rights Watch deputy director for Asia, Phil Robertson, called on the U.S. to recognize Yee’s asylum claim, saying he has been consistently harassed by the Singapore government for publicly expressing his views on politics and religion and severely criticizing the city-state’s leaders, including late Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew. Yee was imprisoned for six weeks in September on charges of hurting religious feelings of Christians and Muslims after repeatedly breaching bail conditions following a four-week prison sentence he served in July last year on the same charges. He was also due to be called up for mandatory military service. His U.S. lawyer, Sandra Grossman, told the South China Morning Post on Saturday that Yee was likely detained because he entered the country on a tourist visa despite an intention to apply for asylum. She said Yee would have to undergo a “credible fear interview” by an asylum official who would assess if he faces a credible fear of persecution or torture back home. She said the process usually takes a few days, but the holiday season could delay it. He would then appear before an immigration judge, but that could take years because of backlogs in the immigration system. Yee, who won a local filmmaking prize at age 13, ruffled feathers in Singapore with a video blog laced with expletives as the city-state was mourning Lee’s death in March last year. Such open criticism and lampooning of leaders is rarely seen in Singapore, where laws are strictly enforced. The government of the multiethnic state says Yee crossed the red line on religion when he mocked Christians and Muslims and the law had to be enforced on him to protect racial and religious harmony. Robertson said Yee has faced intensive government surveillance and monitoring of his public and online comments. “Amos Yee is the sort of classic political dissident that the U.N. Refugee Convention was designed to protect, and Human Rights Watch hopes the U.S. will recognize his asylum claim,” he said in a statement.)

— AMERICANS LESS RELIGIOUS THAN EVER THIS CHRISTMAS  (DIERSEN: Are your critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes churchgoers?  Virtually all of my most vicious critics/opponents, their most vicious operatives, and their most vicious dupes crow that they are a member a church, that they attend church services, and that they give money to a church.  They give religion a bad name.)
http://conservativerepublicannews.com/2016/12/24/new-poll-reveals-americans-less-religious-than-ever-this-christmas/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Americans who do claim Christian faith are less likely than ever to belong to a church.  Only 56 percent of Americans report they belong to a church. That’s an increase from the 54 percent reported in 2015, but nowhere close to the 73 percent Gallup found when it first asked the question in 1937. The results of two other Gallup questions on religion have managed to stay fairly stable over the last 40 years. Only 36 percent of Americans claim to attend weekly religious services, a number that has varied only slightly in annual polls since the 1970s. Only 53 percent of Americans say religion plays an important role in their lives, a figure that has varied between 52 and 61 percent since the 1970s. While there’s been a massive drop in Judeo-Christian faith, they’re not converting to other religions, nor are other religions seeing growth. The share of Americans belonging to a faith other than Christianity or Judaism, such as Hindu, Buddhism or Islam, stayed the same at only five percent. Seventy-two percent of Americans in 2016 say religion is losing its influence in daily life. The only other time Gallup found more than 70 percent feel that way was in 1969 and 1970, after the assassinations and inner city riots of 1968.)

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/23/your-money/early-retirement.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: But the situation is different when you retire very early — too early even to get your first membership solicitation from AARP. While early retirement and a life of leisure may sound like the stuff of daydreams, the reality can be jarring for people who are used to being busy — and important. There can be boredom, a sense of isolation and a lot of awkward social questions. . .According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the work force participation rate for people in the 65-to-69 age range increased to 32.1 percent in 2015, from 18.4 percent in 1985. Those who choose to clock out a good 10, 20 or 25 years ahead of schedule rarely have financial worries — otherwise, presumably, they would still be on the payroll. They have lived within their means and saved enough to carry them through, or, like Mr. Helmuth, they have cashed out of a business. Maybe they have come into an inheritance or have a spouse who is still bringing home a paycheck. But they do have other concerns: What’s the best response to strangers at parties who ask, “So what do you do?” How do they handle peers’ curiosity (can you really afford to do this at your age?) and envy (so you really CAN afford to do this!)? What kind of message are they sending their children?)

— Wearing too many hats at the Bensenville Park District – Editorial  (DIERSEN: Government is nasty.  Politics is nasty.  Just kidding, but if I sought a government office or a political office, would my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes stress that while I worked for IRS full-time in Chicago in 1971 and then in Harvey in 1972, I also worked part-time for the Firestone Store in Chicago Heights?  Would they stress that in addition, I completed graduate business courses at Loyola in 1972?  Would they stress that in addition, I bought a new town home in University Park in 1972?  Would my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes hint/imply/argue/shout that because of the aforesaid, I could not do a “good job” for IRS during 1971 and 1972?  In my defense, IRS promoted me in 1972 from GS-7, currently $43,915, to GS-9, currently $53,717.)
http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20161222/discuss/161229621/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Vallez runs the Marengo, North Berwyn and Justice park districts.  Those three jobs paid Vallez a combined $244,714 last year, and under Illinois pension law, he must work a minimum of 58 hours a week for 52 weeks next year to qualify for his pension benefits from those districts. Those 58 hours do not account for the work he will do for Bensenville. There are plenty of people who work very hard, but after meeting that minimum 58 hours each week, what gas will he have left in the tank to do a good job in Bensenville — even if it is a 4½-month contract?)

— Half of Americans have missed out on the ‘Trump Rally’ – Adam Shell
http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/markets/2016/12/22/stocks-trump-main-street/95695856/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The U.S. stock market has generated $1.8 trillion in paper profits since Election Day, but nearly half of Americans haven’t made a penny in the so-called “Trump Rally.” The reason: they don’t own stocks. Only 52% of Americans polled by Gallup in early April said they “have money invested in the stock market,” matching the lowest stock ownership rate in the 19 years Gallup has been tracking that statistic. The percentage of Americans invested in the stock market is down from its peak of 65% back in 2007 prior to the financial crisis and worst stock market rout since the Great Depression, Gallup data show. The fallout from the Great Recession took a big toll on Americans’ sense of financial well-being, sapping their confidence in the job market, the economy and Wall Street. “Fear is a powerful emotion and has caused investors to flee stocks since the recession,” says Randy Warren, chief investment officer at Warren Financial Service. The lack of broad individual investor participation in the stock rally since Nov. 8 is notable, given that Trump’s surprise win over Hillary Clinton was driven by the billionaire businessman’s promise to bolster the fortunes of the U.S. middle class.)

NEXT GOV
— TRUMP DOESN’T NEED SILICON VALLEY TO ELIMINATE GOVERNMENT WASTE – Frank Konkel  (DIERSEN: Yes, but virtually all GAO employees are Democrats and GAO’s top priority is hiring, retaining, and promoting Democrats and especially Democrats who are minority, female, and/or younger.)
http://www.nextgov.com/emerging-tech/2016/12/trump-doesnt-need-turn-silicon-valley-eliminate-government-waste/134023/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: President-elect Donald Trump met with a powerful group of Silicon Valley tech executives last week to discuss ways to root out government waste. He would do better to confer with the Government Accountability Office, the independent, nonpartisan federal agency that supports Congress to meet its constitutional responsibilities, and improves performance and ensures accountability on behalf of all Americans. Amid the turmoil of presidential transition, with more than 4,000 political appointees to be named and additional professional turnover difficult to quantify, GAO is a rock. Only one of its 3,000-plus employees, U.S. Comptroller General Gene Dodaro, is appointed, and his 15-year term runs through 2025. What’s more, GAO wants to help the incoming president-elect, as Dodaro explained last week at an event hosted by Nextgov. “Under the Presidential Transition Act, GAO has a special responsibility—we’re referred to as a resource that incoming administrations are encouraged to talk to, to find out about their management challenges, risk and responsibilities,” Dodaro said. “So we take that responsibility very seriously, and we don’t wait until people to come us.”  After the election, GAO unveiled its Transition App, for example, allowing users to view a range of serious issues organized by topic and agency. New personnel within an agency can use it to get up to speed about waste, fraud, abuse and other issues plaguing their new workplace. The app boils nearly 6,000 open recommendations from GAO to roughly 10 priority recommendations per agency. “The app was created specifically to help the incoming administration and Congress understand the issues across government,” Dodaro said. The app also directs users to more information, including links to a management agenda concerning issues like finance and cybersecurity, and GAO’s most important product, the High Risk List. The 2015 iteration of the list included IT acquisition and veteran health care among several dozen of the riskiest, problematic federal programs. That GAO has already identified opportunities to improve technology—an issue Trump presumably addressed with the Silicon Valley tech execs—and veteran health care—which Trump during the campaign trail often criticized the current administration of executing so poorly on—ought to catch the attention of Trump’s transition team. Dodaro, speaking last week, said GAO will deliver its next high-risk list in February, following Trump’s inauguration. GAO will also release a report on technology, encompassing feedback from a forum Dodaro hosted on IT that included tech executives, members of Congress and other experts. IT is actually a momentum area for GAO, with the executive branch implementing 23 percent more of approximately 800 recommendations the watchdog made in 2016 compared to 2015. In data center consolidation alone, GAO has identified upward of $8 billion in savings across agencies, or almost 10 percent of the federal IT budget. And that’s only a drop in the bucket compared GAO’s overall work. In fiscal 2015, it identified $136.7 billion in improper payments made by programs like Medicaid. In fiscal 2016, GAO found $63.4 billion in financial benefits to taxpayers, rooting out waste, fraud and abuse, returning $112 to taxpayers for every $1 spent on the agency. GAO also identified a tidy 1,234 ways to make government more efficient. If Trump is serious about rooting out government waste, he should spend an afternoon with GAO, rather than a room full of Silicon Valley tech executives. Or, as one columnist for Government Executive suggested recently, Trump could trade Twitter for GAO’s transition app.)

BLAZE
— Blue states that voted for Hillary Clinton share something in common: they’re dying – Sarah Lee  (DIERSEN: Did your precinct, your municipality, your township/ward, and/or your county vote for Clinton?  To what extent is it dying, for example, how long do homes and other buildings that are for sale languish on the market?  When homes and other buildings sell, for how much are they sold below the asking price?  How many homes and other buildings are rented out because they cannot be sold?  How many homes and other buildings are empty?  How many residents are on government assistance?)
http://www.theblaze.com/news/2016/12/17/blue-states-that-voted-for-hillary-clinton-share-something-in-common-theyre-dying/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Apparently the top 10 states that voted for Hillary Clinton over President-elect Donald Trump during the 2016 election have a very disturbing commonality: they’re dying. According to the Independent Journal Review, citing work by noted Washington Times columnist and economist Stephen Moore, those states are performing so poorly economically “people are clamoring to move out of them.” The states include Massachusetts, California, Maryland, New York, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, Illinois and Hawaii. From IJR: According to economic expert Stephen Moore, writing in the Washington Times, the reasons Americans are fleeing these states are all driven by economics — namely, that they share the progressive values of “high taxes rates; high welfare benefits; heavy regulation; environmental extremism; high minimum wages.”)

GOPUSA
— Obama to Russia: We can do stuff to you  (DIERSEN: If my Democrat superiors in the federal government were forced to acknowledge adverse actions that they took against me, my Democrat GAO superiors would stress that they forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, did not promote me beyond GS-13, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take an $18,459 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980.  My Democrat IRS superiors would stress that they did not promote me beyond GS-12, they disallowed my education deductions, and they disallowed my partial day per diem claims.  My Democrat Post Office superiors would stress that they forced me resign in 1969 and disallowed my sick leave requests.)
