ABC7
— Pritzker signs gun dealer licensing bill into law – Craig Wall
https://abc7chicago.com/politics/governor-jb-pritzker-signs-gun-dealer-licensing-bill-into-law/5092894/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Supporters of the bill say federal regulators are stretched too thin, but opponents say the new licensing is expensive, and could force small dealers out of business. The Illinois Rifle Association released a statement Thursday saying, “The state licenses for gun dealers measure was passed in the previous General Assembly but was never sent to Governor Rauner because 2nd Amendment rights opponents knew he would veto it. Political gamesmanship like this is just a typical day in Illinois politics. The Illinois State Rifle Association is deeply disappointed in the action taken today, but is certainly not surprised. The federal government already licenses gun dealers. There is no need to add yet another layer of bureaucracy on gun dealers. The only thing this measure is going to do is make it cost more money for gun dealers to do business in Illinois, which is going to hurt the smaller dealers. The action taken today is another assault on our 2nd Amendment rights. Nothing in this bill is going to enhance public safety in Illinois. The only thing that is being accomplished here is the creation of a bureaucratic nightmare for gun dealers. Rest assured, we will be challenging this new law in court.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Supporters have called it commonsense legislation, but opponents have said it’s classic government overreach. Gun rights advocates said the measure would run small dealers out of business due to the cost of the new regulations.)

FOX NEWS CHICAGO
— Pritzker signs bill allowing Illinois to license gun dealers – AP
http://www.fox32chicago.com/news/crime/new-gov-pritzker-signs-oft-rejected-gun-dealer-licensing
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The law affects about 2,400 firearms dealers and its provisions take effect in six months. Each must show it is licensed with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and purchase a five-year state permit — $1,500 for retail shops and $300 for independent dealers. Each must install videotaping in retail sections of the store, maintain an electronic inventory and require annual employee training in spotting so-called straw purchases. The Illinois State Rifle Association promised a lawsuit challenging the plan. “The federal government already licenses gun dealers. There is no need to add yet another layer of bureaucracy on gun dealers,” executive director Richard Pearson said in a statement. “The only thing this measure is going to do is make it cost more money for gun dealers to do business in Illinois, which is going to hurt the smaller dealers. “The action taken today is another assault on our 2nd Amendment rights.” Pritzker, who already this week reversed course on GOP Gov. Bruce Rauner’s policies toward labor with pro-union action, said gun-rights organizations are “just wrong” in their criticism of the licensing bill. He added, “I’m going to continue to make sure that we’re standing up to the voices like the Illinois State Rifle Association and the National Rifle Association to protect our families and our children.”)

https://www.investors.com/politics/editorials/federal-workers-government-shutdown/

(FROM THE EDITORIAL: The worst thing about the government shutdown isn’t the — minimal — harm it’s causing. It’s all the misplaced hand-wringing about federal workers, most of whom are overpaid and underworked, and all whom will get their back pay once government reopens. As the shutdown goes on, news accounts of the alleged suffering of federal workers mount. They’re lining up at food banks! They’re forced to take odd jobs, or rent rooms out on Airbnb! They need help! This week, Kraft Foods announced that it was opening a “pop-up” store in Washington, D.C. to provide free food to federal workers so that none of them “have to worry about putting dinner on the table because they aren’t receiving a paycheck.” Whole Foods hosted a free spaghetti dinner at select stores. Other companies are chipping in. Keep in mind that the 800,000 federal workers affected by the shutdown have so far missed a grand total of one paycheck, which would have arrived five days ago. There’s no doubt that this is challenging for many workers, particularly those who don’t budget their money well. But Congress has already guaranteed they will be made whole once the shutdown ends. This is an inconvenience, not a hardship. In the meantime, let’s remember who we are talking about here. While there are certainly plenty of hardworking, dedicated federal workers, they are, for the most part, incredibly pampered. They get better pay and more generous benefits than private sector workers doing the same things. They work fewer hours. And they have far greater job security. Better Pay and Benefits An analysis of federal pay by the Congressional Budget Office found that when you combine pay and benefits, federal workers make as much as 52% more than their private sector counterparts, depending on their education level. It also found that this gap has widened in recent years, because even when the economy was in a recession, federal workers kept getting annual pay hikes. A more recent analysis by the Cato Institute found that federal employees make 76% more than private sector workers. Using data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the Cato report found that the average federal employee pulls down $123,160 a year in pay and benefits, compared with $69,901 in the private sector. It also found that this gap had increased since the 1990s, when it was 39%. They also get generous amounts of paid time off, including nearly two weeks of paid sick leave, 10 federal holidays and at least two weeks paid vacation. Less Productive Not only do federal workers make more, they work less than those in the private sector. A Heritage Foundation analysis found that federal employees put in an average 38.7 hours a week, compared with 41.4 in the private sector. Other reports show that government workers are 38% more likely to take time off work for illness or personal reasons, and miss 50% more hours than private sector workers. Here’s one case in point. After the Obama administration eliminated the International Labor Comparisons office, which employed 16 economists, the private sector Conference Board took on the work. But instead of 16 workers, the Conference Board needed only three to do the work. Project Veritas recently produced a series of undercover videos, in which federal workers bragged about how little they work, or how much time they spend at work on outside projects. Is it any surprise that the quit rate among federal workers is one-quarter the quit rate in the private sector? Unmatched Job Security What’s more, it is almost impossible to fire a federal worker. Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that the rate of layoffs and discharges among federal workers is one sixth the rate of the private sector. A Government Accountability audit found that it can take between five months to more than a year to fire a poor performing worker. Another GAO audit found that managers routinely hand out top performance ratings to federal workers. In fact, 99.5% got a “fully successful” rating or above. More than a third earned the highest rating of “outstanding.” At the other end of the spectrum, just 0.4% of federal workers got “minimally successful” and 0.1% “unacceptable” ratings. Worse still, federal workers who do cause serious problems at work often get put on paid administrative leave as punishment. Yet another GAO audit found that the government spent more than $3 billion in just two years for what amounted to paid vacations. Hundreds of federal workers had received a year or more of paid administrative leave. One Quarter Are ‘Non-Essential’ As we noted in this space earlier, government agencies affected by the shutdown furloughed about 400,000 workers. (The other 400,000 “essential workers” are at their jobs, but not currently getting paychecks.) Excluding the military (which is unaffected by the shutdown) and the Postal Service (which is self-financed), that means 25% of the total federal work force of just over 3 million is “nonessential.” At several agencies, the vast majority of workers are “nonessential.” Here’s a sampling compiled by Government Executive of the share of workers furloughed during the shutdown. NASA: 95.4% Housing and Urban Development: 95.4% Securities and Exchange Commission: 93.5% Commerce Department: 86% Federal Trade Commission 76.7% Department of the Interior: 76% Department of Agriculture: 66.5%. Collectively, just this sampling of government agencies spent more than $244 billion of taxpayer money last year. If nothing else, the shutdown has highlighted how bloated the federal workforce has become. Many Threatened To Quit Anyway Lastly, more than a quarter of the federal workforce threatened to quit if President Donald Trump got elected. A survey of federal employees by the Government Business Council and GovExec.com found that 14% said they would “definitely” consider quitting their jobs and another 13% said they might consider it. Just 65% said they’d stay on at their jobs no matter who wins. The shutdown provides these workers a perfect opportunity to live up to their promise. And the booming labor market means that there are plenty of jobs in the private sector. (Of course, that would mean giving up their cushy federal jobs.) The government will eventually reopen. All of these workers will be back on the job. And they’ll all get paid for the days they stayed home. So please, spare us the crocodile tears.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: On the internet, conspiracy theories, propaganda and plain old inaccuracies can stump even the most thoughtful readers, spreading faster than you can say “fake news.” A small start-up, NewsGuard, says it may have a solution. The effort is led by a pair of veteran news executives — Steven Brill, an author and the founder of the magazine The American Lawyer, and Gordon Crovitz, a former publisher of The Wall Street Journal. On Wednesday the company announced that it had signed Microsoft as its first major client. NewsGuard has created the equivalent of nutrition labels for news organizations, rating more than 2,000 news and information sites with tags: red for unreliable, green for trustworthy. A team of roughly 50 journalists and analysts is making the evaluations. NewsGuard has given its stamp of approval to established publications like The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, as well as later entrants like BuzzFeed and Newsmax. FoxNews.com, The Hill, The Daily Beast and HuffPost have also gotten green lights. Sites to watch out for, according to NewsGuard, include Infowars and Breitbart on the right, and Daily Kos on the left. Media Matters, a left-leaning advocacy organization with a prolific media-watchdog blog, has received a green rating, but scores negatively on four of the nine criteria used by NewsGuard. The start-up hopes to become a regular part of the reading experience on the web. Its premise is that it is more efficient to rate news organizations than the endless stream of articles rolled out each hour. The service, free to readers, offers a browser extension that shows a news operation’s rating when a reader lands on its site. The NewsGuard tag also appears in search results next to article links for those who have the extension.)

The Unfortunate Truth of College Graduates

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Many college attendees struggle to find jobs which are both fitting for their careers and also have a respective income. Money magazine took the findings of labor economist Stephen Rose, who uncovered discoveries in his new analysis regarding the overqualification that has burdened college graduates entering the workforce. Money writer Kaitlin Mulhere deduced from Rose’s findings that “…no matter how the economy is faring, the overqualification rate is disproportionately high for workers who are just out of college and in their early 20s”. This means that many employers have handed down less-than-exemplary jobs, making it so that college graduates must crawl their way to the top regardless of their degree. Is this the kind of treatment that is deserved by hardworking students, spending countless hours educating themselves through the means of their own will? It should also be noted that the percentage of overqualification rates for Hispanics and African Americans increased by “…7 and 10 percentage points, respectively, than the rate for white college-educated workers”. This not only highlights the inconsideration of the educated workforce but also reveals the effects of racism that still segregate several demographics from gaining equal pay. Not only are college graduates being short-cut of their pay, but if you are part of a non-white racial group, then the likelihood that your efforts will be overlooked increase.)

NEWS GUARD
— Criteria for and Explanation of Ratings (DIERSEN: Needless-to-say, www.gopillinois.com should get a green rating.)
https://www.newsguardtech.com/ratings/criteria-for-and-explanation-of-ratings/
(FROM THE POSTING: THE 9 FACTORS Here are the 9 criteria that NewsGuard uses in determining if a provider is rated red. A site that fails to adhere to a preponderance of these criteria, as described in the weighted criteria definitions below, are rated red. No site must adhere to all of the criteria to be rated green. In every case the NewsGuard Nutrition Labels that are provided for each site (by clicking on the rating) spell out the site’s adherence to each of the 9 criteria that yielded that source’s particular rating. The 9 criteria below are listed in order of their importance in determining a red rating. For example, failure to adhere to the first criteria—publishing false content—will be more influential in determining a red rating than failure to reveal information about content creators.

Credibility

Does not repeatedly publish false content: In the last three years the site has not produced multiple stories that have been found—either by journalists at NewsGuard or elsewhere—to be clearly false, and which have not been quickly and prominently corrected. (22 Points. A label with a score lower than 60 points gets a red rating.)

Gathers and presents information responsibly: Content on the site is created by reporters, writers, videographers, researchers, or other information providers who generally seek to be accurate and fair in gathering, reporting, and interpreting information, even if they approach their work from a strong point of view. They do this by referencing multiple sources, preferably those that present direct, firsthand information on a subject or event. (18 Points)

Regularly corrects or clarifies errors: The site makes clear how to contact those in charge and has effective practices for publishing clarifications and corrections. (12.5 Points)

Handles the difference between news and opinion responsibly: Content providers who convey the impression that they report news or a mix of news and opinion distinguish opinion from news reporting, and when reporting news, they do not regularly or egregiously misstate, distort, or cherry pick facts, or egregiously cherry pick stories, to advance opinions. Content providers whose clearly expressed purpose is to advance a particular point of view do not regularly and egregiously misstate or distort facts to make their case. (12.5 Points)

Avoids deceptive headlines: The site generally does not publish headlines that include false information, significantly sensationalize, or otherwise do not reflect what is actually in the story. (10 Points)

Transparency

Website discloses ownership and financing: The site discloses its ownership and/or financing, as well as any notable ideological or political positions held by those with a significant financial interest in the site, in a user-friendly manner. (7.5 Points)

Clearly labels advertising: The site makes clear which content is paid for and which is not. (7.5 Points)

Reveals who’s in charge, including any possible conflicts of interest: Information about those in charge of the content is made accessible on the site, including any possible conflicts of interest. (5 Points)

Site provides the names of content creators, along with either contact information or biographical information: Information about those producing the content is made accessible on the site. (5 Points)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: What can we do about “news anxiety,” which many in the psychiatric community say is a real malady, particularly in recent years? If you feel afflicted by it, mental health professionals advise limiting news or social media exposure, especially of the more sensational anxiety-inducing sort. Psychologist Deborah Serani of Adelphi University, writing in Psychology Today, advised steering yourself away from sensational headlines and cable TV news and toward stories that offer depth, explanations and possible solutions to problems at hand. That’s healthy advice. After reporting the latest scandal or atrocity, it is reassuring to know that there is a rational path out of the problem at hand, if only we can persuade our political leaders to follow it.)

— BEYOND DISGUSTING, BEYOND OUTRAGEOUS: E-Verify absent from immigration policy talks – S.A. Miller (DIERSEN: To oppose E-Verify is to oppose enforcement of America’s immigration laws. To oppose E-Verify is to shout a) that you are a Democrat or a Democrat plant, a Libertarian or a Libertarian plant, a Green or a Green plant, or a RINO and b) that you are anti-Trump, anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-patriotic, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, anti-German Americans, and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time.)
https://m.washingtontimes.com/news/2019/jan/15/e-verify-absent-from-immigration-policy-talks/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: E-Verify has existed since 1996 and is mandatory in eight states. A 2016 study published in the IAZ Journal of Development and Migration found reduced numbers of immigrants living in the U.S. illegally in states with mandatory E-Verify. “E-Verify is a much more efficient way to achieve the goals that are claimed for the border wall,” said Edwin Rubenstein, chief researcher for the nonpartisan Negative Population Growth. An estimated 11.3 million immigrants live in the U.S. illegally with about 8 million working, accounting for about 5 percent of the workforce, according to a 2016 analysis by the Pew Research Center. Compared to their share of the workforce, immigrants living in the U.S. illegally were overrepresented in the agriculture (17 percent) and construction (13 percent) sectors, and in the leisure and hospitality industry (9 percent), the center found. The Chamber of Commerce dropped its opposition to E-Verify in 2013 but only with the stipulation that current employees be exempt. The agriculture industry’s reliance on labor from immigrants living in the U.S. illegally has long kept farm state Republicans from backing mandatory E-Verify without a major expansion of guest worker programs. The farm lobby was divided last year when mandatory E-Verify was included in a House GOP package of immigration reforms, the Securing America’s Future Act. The bill was defeated 192-231, with 41 Republicans joining every Democrat in voting no. While making his border security pitch Monday to the American Farm Bureau Foundation’s annual convention in New Orleans, Mr. Trump stressed that a border wall wouldn’t keep out seasonal workers. “I’m going to make that easier for them to come in and to work the farms,” he said. “But we’re keeping the wrong ones out, OK?” But he’s not talking about E-Verify the way he did on the 2016 campaign trail, when he pledged to “strengthen and expand” the program. With Mr. Trump in the White House, the system has gotten short shrift. It was left out of Mr. Trump’s “four pillars” plan to combat illegal immigration. Only a handful of the 565 companies in the Trump Organization, the president’s business empire, have signed up to use E-Verify, according to a Washington Times analysis. At times, Democrats touted E-Verify as a solution. Mr. Schumer last week listed E-Verify among the top measures for border security that he said were “ironically” suspended during the partial government shutdown. “Border patrol agents are going without pay, E-Verify is off-line, immigration cases are on hold, new immigration judges are not being hired,” he said. In 2009, Mr. Schumer said a “biometric-based employer verification system with tough enforcement and auditing is necessary to significantly diminish the job magnet that attracts illegal aliens to the United States.”)

https://cis.org/Huennekens/Identifying-SuperSanctuaries
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Chicago, Ill. According to Pew, over 425,000 illegal aliens live in the Chicago area. The Office of the Mayor, currently Rahm Emmanuel, operates a website that celebrates Chicago’s status as a sanctuary city. The “Sanctuary City Supportive Resources” website offers advice on how to access city resources and lists a number of participating advocacy groups for immigrants. Additionally, the city created the Chicago KeyCity program to help illegal immigrants assimilate into city life. KeyCity acts as a Chicago-specific identification card. According to the sanctuary city supportive resources website: “KeyCity is an optional, valid, government-issued ID card offered to all Chicago residents that will unlock many of the great things our City has to offer. The CityKey card is a photo identification card available to all Chicago residents which will not convey information about national origin or legal status. For many residents who do not have an identification card, CityKey can serve as an official government issued identification and can be used to access city services. Additionally, your CityKey can be used as a library card for Chicago Public Libraries, as well as a Ventra card. Presenting your CityKey at particular cultural institutions and local businesses can also give you a discount. CityKey is now available for free to all Chicago residents.” Chicago unveiled a program in 2014 that awarded city high school students with scholarships to attend community college for free. Those scholarships extend to illegal-alien students, as well, allowing them the opportunity to study at two-year colleges for free. A USA Today article noted that while illegal-alien students were eligible for the scholarships, other city students, such as those attending charter and parochial schools, were not. Chicago allows non-citizens to vote in school board elections. Chicago aggressively defends its sanctuary laws protecting criminal aliens. Emmanuel has continued to fight the Justice Department over federal funds withheld from Chicago because of their policies. In addition to those policies, Chicago has a number of added benefits in place to help integrate illegal aliens, making it a super-sanctuary.)

That work required assuring the accuracy and support for each and every word, number, table, graph, chart, conclusion, opinion, and recommendation in GAO reports. I worked for IRS 1971-1980, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $81,071-$91,880. (FROM THE ARTICLE: But some of Gabbard’s most fiery remarks against same-sex marriage in years past, as well as her active campaign to promote “traditional marriage” legislation, have drawn intense scrutiny from the left. In years past, she several times referred to LGBTQ activists as “homosexual extremists,” a view that echoes that of her father, Mike Gabbard, whom a New Yorker profile of the congresswoman described as having long been “Hawaii’s leading opponent of the gay-rights movement, an energetic and often brusque activist who stood ever ready to denounce what he called ‘the radical homosexual agenda.’” “So, she’ll co-sponsor bills supporting LGBTQ rights, but still personally thinks we’re icky,” wrote Parker Malloy, the editor-at-large for the liberal media watchdog group Media Matters for America, on Twitter. “In any case, it’s really weird to see self-described leftists line up to support her instead of more progressive candidates. That’s all.” Gabbard, who has apologized for her previous comments, was a visible force against same-sex marriage, and in 2004 spearheaded a fight in the state against a same-sex union measure. “To try to act as if there is a difference between ‘civil unions’ and same-sex marriage is dishonest, cowardly and extremely disrespectful to the people of Hawaii,” she said at the time. “As Democrats, we should be representing the views of the people, not a small number of homosexual extremists.” Gabbard then also blasted Massachusetts’ passage of same-sex marriage legislation, making it the first in the nation to recognize gay marriage. Speaking on behalf of the Alliance for Traditional Marriage and Values, a group headed by her father, she said the Massachusetts marriage law would cause a ripple effect across the country. “It is highly likely that federal judges will soon be tearing apart our U.S. Constitution in order to force same-sex marriage down the throats of the people of Hawaii and America,” Gabbard said. “The only way to protect traditional marriage in Hawaii and throughout our country, the only way to stop activist federal judges from rewriting our constitution, is by the passage of the Federal Marriage Amendment.”)

— State Sen. Oberweis giving “serious thought” to challenging US Rep. Underwood
https://capitolfax.com/2019/01/11/state-sen-oberweis-giving-serious-thought-to-challenging-us-rep-underwood/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Republicans are lining up to challenge Underwood. Matt Quigley, a 32-year-old Navy veteran and Republican from Naperville, already has announced his intention to run in 2020. State Sen. Jim Oberweis, a Sugar Grove Republican who has run for Congress, Senate and governor before, also is considering a bid. He said, “We’re giving it serious thought, yes.” “I don’t believe that Underwood represents the views of the majority of the people in the 14th Congressional District,” said the dairy magnate, who said he would make a decision in 30 to 60 days. “I believe I would be much closer to those views.” Underwood beat a sitting Republican congressman by 5 points last November. She’s no slouch. And Oberweis will be a 74-year-old “career politician” (or, at least, “career candidate”) by 2020 with a whole lot of votes under his belt. Even so, Gov. Bruce Rauner won the 14th CD by almost 8 points. The only statewide Democrats who won it were Jesse White (+23) and Susana Mendoza (+2). Other possibles include state Rep. Allen Skillicorn (R-East Dundee), which could be why he’s been holding so many press conferences lately. Plenty of rumors about a few others.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Our decay as an institution began in 1995, when conservatives, led by Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.), carried out a full-scale war on government. Gingrich began by slashing the congressional workforce by one-third. He aimed particular ire at Congress’s brain, firing 1 of every 3 staffers at the Government Accountability Office, the Congressional Research Service and the Congressional Budget Office. He defunded the Office of Technology Assessment, a tech-focused think tank. Social scientists have called those moves Congress’s self-lobotomy, and the cuts remain largely unreversed.)

https://wealthyretirement.com/slap-in-the-face/drawbacks-financial-independence-retire-early-thinking/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: What in the name of God are you supposed to do for the next 50 or 60 years if you retire in your 30s? I’m ahead of myself here, but this just sounds so incredibly immature and badly thought out that I kind of lost control for a second. Let’s skip over the fact that living a life of “carefree bliss” – that’s what one successful FIRE advocate called it – is absurd. I say that because every person I have ever known who left the real world too early – either because of an inheritance or because they built the resources on their own to allow them to do that – went back to work out of self-preservation or looked like hell a few years into their “bliss.” For the vast majority, it doesn’t work. People need a challenge. They need structure. They need a reason to get up in the morning other than kayaking and rock climbing.)

HARTLAND INSTITUTE
— FROM THE ARTICLE: The Constitution gave the federal government (very few) expressly identified and defined powers – and left the rest to the states (what the colonies would become) and We the People. Because they wanted less government – they gave the federal government only the powers the states by themselves couldn’t handle. To wit: Mexico is invading California, New Mexico, Arizona and Texas. Which is a geographical anomaly – only those four states share a border with Mexico. But from those states – the invaders invade the rest of the nation. It is not left to those four states to deal with the invasion. It is our national sovereignty that is under assault – so it is the national government’s responsibility to stop the invasion. – Stan Motley

(FROM THE ARTICLE: It’s a terrible feeling when you lose your job. To make matters worse, it is awful to be discriminated against because you’re out of work. Government data touts that we have broken records of having the lowest level of unemployment in decades. The statistics conveniently leave out those who have exhausted their unemployment claims and still haven’t found a new job. These people, who need the most help, are conveniently ignored and treated as if they don’t exist, especially since it ruins the narrative of full employment. Society shies away from discussing the unemployed—and especially the long-term unemployed (someone who is out of work for 27 weeks or more). In December 2018, there were 1.3 million long-term unemployed individuals. Yet, it is still one of those touchy taboo subjects that we all feel could happen to us and would prefer to avoid talking about it. Rationally, you’d believe that with full employment (and the accompanying challenge for companies to find qualified candidates), they would quickly scoop up anyone out of work. Sadly, this does not happen. There is a discrete, unspoken thought process amongst corporate executives that if someone is unemployed for a certain length of time, there must be a problem and they’d rather just pass on the candidate. An unrealistic expectation exists in which hiring managers feel that a person should have found a job within a reasonable time frame after being unemployed—and if they haven’t, something may be wrong with him. The bias against the unemployed is as common and pernicious as age discrimination.)

— 1.8M college students who could get SNAP benefits aren’t – James Paterson (DIERSEN: While you earned your bachelor’s degree, would you have been eligible for SNAP Benefits? I would not. My outstanding parents provided me with room and board while I attended UIC 1966-1968, weekends during my first semester at NIU in 1969, and the summer of 1969. While I was a student, I pumped gasoline in 1966; delivered mail 1966-1969; and worked on an automobile assembly line and as a security guard in 1970. I graduated from NIU in August of 1970 debt-free and owning a 1969 Dodge Charger SE. College expenses were much lower back then.)
