I accepted the only job offer that I got, to be the Retail Sales Manager in Firestone’s Chicago Heights store. The job did not really require a bachelor’s degree. Immediately after my application was approved in February of 1971, Oldsmobile offered me a job that I accepted. That resulted in my Firestone Store boss rudely firing me. But Oldsmobile withdrew its job offer saying that it had just agreed to stop hiring Whites to settle an EEOC complaint. That resulted in my accepting a job offer from IRS.)
