FED SMITH
— I Do Solemnly Swear That I Will… – Jeff Neal (DIERSEN: My Democrat superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates in the federal government hinted/implied/argued/shouted that the Constitution of the United States required them to get rid of federal employees who were Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran. It is called Affirmative Action, Diversity, and Inclusion.)
http://www.fedsmith.com/2017/01/18/i-do-solemnly-swear-that-i-will/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: People in the private sector do not take an oath of office when they get a job. They get an offer, report to work, and that’s it. For federal employees it is different. Reading so many articles about the inauguration that refer to the president-elect taking the oath of office on the 20th of January got me thinking about oaths and what they mean. I have taken that oath of office as a civil service employee. Raising your right hand and swearing to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States” is not something most people take lightly. It is a solemn oath and it means something to most people who take it.)

https://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/20170117/downtown/big-drag-how-much-puffing-illinois-costs-smokers
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Smoking will cost you big time in Illinois.  The habit will cost a smoker an estimated nearly $1.8 million throughout his or her lifetime, making Illinois among the costliest states in the nation for users, according to a new study. The study from WalletHub looked at the out-of-pocket cost to smokers as well as financial opportunity cost (how much money smokers would have made by investing money instead of spending it on cigarettes), healthcare cost, income loss per smoke and other expenses. The study found smoking in Illinois will end up costing people more than $34,000 a year or $1.77 million over a lifetime of smoking for about 50 years. For a pack-a-day smoker, the habit can cost more than $2,700 per year just to buy cigarettes, the study found.)

— Donald Trump: ‘I Don’t Like Tweeting’ – ABC NEWS (DIERSEN: I do not like putting GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails together and sending them out each and every morning and each and every evening.  Like Trump, “I have other things I could be doing.” But tremendous communication voids continue to exist in Illinois, in DuPage County, in Milton Township, in Wheaton, in etc. that no one is filling.  The Illinois Republican Party, the DuPage County Republican Central Committee, the Milton Township Republican Central Committee, and other conservative and Republican organizations in Illinois do not have the time, the motivation, the experience, and/or the money like I do to help keep Illinois Republicans up to date with government and political news and commentary every 12 hours.)

It’s my only way that I can counteract.” He continued: “When people misrepresent me — because the press is very dishonest, unbelievably dishonest … When people misrepresent me, I have at least a way of saying it’s a false statement. Roosevelt Road to become a facility for new and expectant single mothers. The Clarendon Hills-based company Love From Above plans to offer a two-year transitional housing program for women 18 to 26 years old that will serve single mothers in DuPage County. The facility would serve as many as 12 women at any given time who find themselves in “crisis pregnancies,” Love From Above President and founder Yvonne Florczak-Seeman previously said. City Council members approved the plans contingent on the installation of landscaping for the property and the replacement of any required landscaping that has died or is dying. In addition, the facility will only be able to serve a maximum of 12 women at any given time. While Wheaton Mayor Michael Gresk said he would have preferred to have seen a commercial use for the building, “it’s good to see that building occupied.” “It’s an appropriate use,” he said. Council members previously asked if the facility would have to be licensed or regulated by the state. Greg Dose, attorney for the applicant, wrote a letter to the city stating the facility is not subject to regulation or licensing by the Department of Children and Family Services under the Illinois Child Care Act. In the letter, Dose said the facility will be the primary residence of the women. “While they reside there, it will be their home and the home of their infant and toddler children,” Dose said in the letter. “There will be no children on the premises other than those of the moms. Thus all child care that occurs on the premises will be home-based child care.” Dose said the facility is exempt from DCFS licensing and regulation because the children will not be apart from their parents. Wheaton’s city attorney has agreed with Dose’s opinion. As proposed, the women staying at the facility would have to be enrolled in college to participate in the program. This would be the company’s first facility, which will be called The Butterfly Garden…A Place for Healing and Transformation. The Wheaton Inn originally was built in 1987 and most recently was used as office space by an investment company that relocated to Downers Grove a few years ago. Council member Suzanne Fitch was absent from the meeting.)

To participate in the auction, potential bidders must pay $20 for due diligence information that includes a title report, the terms of sale, and a copy of the purchase and sale agreement. According to Misha Haghani, owner of Paramount Realty USA, the home was built by Trump’s father. “A property as prominent as this has intangible value that goes beyond just the real estate — it’s like art and that’s why an auction is the perfect platform in which to sell it,” he said in the December press release. In September, The Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon asked the then-presidential nominee about the home being sold. “That is where I was born,” Trump said when Fallon showed him a photo of the home. “I had a really good childhood; oh that’s sad to look at that, I want to buy it.”)

The following want me to change: those who a) reject planks in the Republican Party platform and work against those like me who support those planks, b) reject planks in the Illinois Republican Party platform and work against those like me who support those planks, c) reject the Milton Township Republican Central Committee resolution against video gambling and work against those like me who support that resolution, d) focus on destroying those like me who they cannot manipulate/dominate, e) were defendants in lawsuits that I have filed, f) are operatives for the aforesaid, and/or g) are dupes for the aforesaid and those who are anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, anti-German Americans, and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America longer than their ancestors.)

NEW YORK TIMES
— FRONT PAGE TOP OF FOLD: In a front page top of fold editorial unethically made to look like a news article, anti-Trumps promote Black hatred of Trump.
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/15/us/politics/trumps-race-john-lewis.html
— John’s Gospel of Trump’s Illegitimacy – Charles M. Blow  (DIERSEN: Are you a draft avoider? I sought and obtained student draft deferments 1966-1970 and I sought and obtained a financial hardship draft deferment 1970-1971.  Since 1966, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have used that against me. They focus on turning veterans against me.  While I worked for the federal government for almost 30 years, most of my superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates were veterans, and at times, virtually all of them were veterans.)
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/16/opinion/johns-gospel-of-trumps-illegitimacy.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Trump attacks Lewis as, “All talk, talk, talk — no action”; Lewis, who repeatedly thrust his body unto the breach for justice, who was arrested, beaten and terrorized, including during the time that young Trump was at his well-heeled schools, receiving draft deferments from the Vietnam War. In fact, one of Trump’s five deferments was in 1965, the same year as the Selma marches and “Bloody Sunday,” during which Lewis was struck so violently by a state trooper wielding a billy club that Lewis’s skull was fractured. Coincidentally, Trump finally received his permanent exemption from the draft, a 4-F status, in the year before he and his father were sued by the Department of Justice for violating the Fair Housing Act of 1968 — one of the many justice issues Lewis championed. As The New York Times noted at the time: “The government contended that Trump Management had refused to rent or negotiate rentals ‘because of race and color.’ It also charged that the company had required different rental terms and conditions because of race and that it had misrepresented to blacks that apartments were not available.” Let’s be clear: Donald Trump doesn’t even deserve to stand in John Lewis’s shadow. The spectacular obscenity of Trump’s comment is incomparable and deeply repulsive.)

WALL STREET JOURNAL
— China Tightens Apps Oversight  Beijing begins requiring the country’s hundreds of internet app stores to register with the state – EVA DOU (DIERSEN: My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes might not admit it, but they want all of the following to “oversee” my GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails, that is, they want to require me to get written permission from the following before including links to articles in the emails and listing upcoming events in the emails: the Milton Township Republican Central Committee officers, the DuPage County Republican Central Committee officers, the DuPage County Republican township party chairmen, the Illinois Republican Party (IRP) officers, the IRP State Central Committee members, the IRP National Committeeman, the IRP National Committeewoman, all those elected and appointed Republicans for my precinct, for Milton Township, for DuPage County, and for Illinois, etc.)
http://www.wsj.com/articles/china-tightens-apps-oversight-1484568024
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Plugging a gap in the Great Firewall, China on Monday began requiring internet app stores to register with the state. China has long censored websites, barring outlawed content such as pornography, the promotion of illegal activity including terrorism and “rumors,” a term regulators often apply to antigovernment statements. But apps create a special challenge for government censors, experts say, because they often incorporate a wide variety of functions and serve as platforms for users to exchange information, making them harder to oversee. They are also multiplying quickly.)

— Pulling Retirement Cash, but Not by Choice  Baby boomers’ mandatory withdrawals from 401(k)s, IRAs and other tax-deferred retirement accounts start in full force this year, touching off a massive shift of cash – VIPAL MONGA and SARAH KROUSE  (DIERSEN: The cost of living in Wheaton is very high.  Because my Democrat superiors in the federal government wasted my career and forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, my Civil Service Retirement System pension is dramatically reduced.  Because of that, increasingly, my wife and I are spending more than our income. When I am 70 1/2, we will use my required minimum distribution to help pay for things like real estate taxes, income taxes, medical expenses, food, utilities, and insurance.)
http://www.wsj.com/articles/pulling-retirement-cash-but-not-by-choice-1484568043
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The largest generation in U.S. history has to start pulling its retirement money this year, kicking off a mandatory movement of cash that could total hundreds of billions in the coming decades. U.S. law requires anyone age 70 ½ or older to begin annual withdrawals from their tax-sheltered retirement accounts and pay taxes on those distributions. The oldest of the nation’s 75 million baby boomers cross that threshold for the first time this month, according to a U.S. Census Bureau estimate of when that demographic group began. The obligatory outflows from 401(k)s and IRAs are expected to ripple through the U.S. economy, the stock market and a money-management industry that relies heavily on fees from boomers’ tax-sheltered savings plans and assets. Boomers hold roughly $10 trillion in tax-deferred savings accounts, according to an estimate by Edward Shane, a managing director at Bank of New York Mellon Corp. Over the next two decades, the number of people age 70 or older is expected to nearly double to 60 million—roughly the population of Italy. Firms that manage 401(k) plans are trying to persuade clients to reinvest their withdrawals in other products rather than spending or donating the cash to charity. It’s another pain point for many traditional money managers already struggling to keep some clients from shifting into lower-cost index-tracking mutual funds.)

TIME
— Millennials Keep Losing Ground to Their Parents – Kate Samuelson
http://time.com/money/4634274/millennials-losing-ground-parents/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Millennial children are earning around 20% less than their baby boomer parents despite being better educated, new research says. Analysis of Federal Reserve data by the advocacy group Young Invincibles, laid out in an Associated Press report, discovered that millennials have less than half the net worth of boomers and their home ownership rate is lower, while their student debt is “drastically” higher. For the research, the analysts compared 25 to 34 year-olds in 2013, the most recent year available, to the same age group in 1989 after adjusting for inflation. They found that education has helped lessen the gap between millennials and boomers, but white millennials still earn significantly more than their black and Latino peers. This “reflect[s] the legacy of discrimination for jobs, education and housing,” the report says. According to AP, research last year by economists led by Stanford University’s Raj Chetty agrees with Young Invincibles’ findings. The Stanford report found that people born in 1950 had a 79% chance of making more money than their parents but those born in 1980 had just a 50% chance of out-earning their parents.)

ILLINOIS FAMILY INSTITUTE
— Feds Are Simply Out-of-Touch – David E. Smith
https://illinoisfamily.org/marriage/feds-simply-touch/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently claimed in a press release that the cost of raising a child from birth through age 17 is $233,610, or almost $14,000 annually. As the father of seven children, let me say that this is utter nonsense. Moreover, the USDA fails to identify the multiple benefits of raising children, such as the physical, spiritual, intellectual and emotional advantages. These benefits are not just unquantifiable, but inestimable. The value of raising, nurturing and training children far surpass the outlandish financial estimates of Washington D.C. bureaucrats. With the USDA’s exaggerated estimates, how do we expect to encourage married couples to return to the healthy birth rate of more than 2.1 in the United States?  We’re shortsighted if we fail to see that the current U.S. trend is unsustainable and portends economic trouble, including lower living standards for most citizens. We simply have to look at Japan, Greece or Italy for a lesson in the detriments of low birth rates. Federal officials are simply out-of-touch with Middle America. Most of us don’t spend hundreds of dollars on a hammer and we spend far less than they estimate to raise our each child every year. Maybe the federal government can learn something from working families?)

http://gmauthority.com/blog/2017/01/vice-president-joe-biden-plans-to-purchase-a-corvette-upon-leaving-office/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: We all know Vice President Joe Biden’s love affair with Corvettes; it’s a very well-documented obsession. In fact, he still owns a C2 Corvette given to him as a wedding gift decades ago.
However, Biden has big automotive plans upon leaving office. During VP Biden’s visit to the 2017 North American International Auto Show, he told reporters one of his first actions after exiting his current role will be to “Buy a Corvette.”  Biden was seen checking out numerous vehicle during the show and was greeted by Fiat-Chrysler Vice President Brian Harlow, Ford President and CEO Mark Fields and GM Executive Vice President Mark Reuss. But, it was Reuss’ team Biden was loving up on. The VP was seen sitting in numerous C7 Corvettes on the show floor, likely doing some window shopping at the same time.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Public speaks out on plan to merge DuPage Election Commission into clerk’s office – Gary Gibula  (DIERSEN: Political parties exist to help elect candidates who can and will defend and advance their platform.  Are you a partisan? I have always been one.  According to Wikipedia, “In politics, a partisan is a committed member of a political party.” I have always been a “a committed member” of the Republican Party, and especially since 1999, I have been “a committed member” of the Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC), DuPage County Republican Central Committee (DCRCC), and the Illinois Republican Party (IRP). However, those who dominate the MTRCC, DCRCC, IRP, and the Republican Party and who reject planks in the IRP platform and/or in the Republican Party platform define “a committed member” differently.  According them, “a committed member” a) is someone who rejects the same planks that they do, usually the traditional family, right to life, immigration, illegal drugs, Second Amendment, gambling, and/or equal opportunity (no race or gender based preference giving) planks and b) serves as one of their operatives or as one of their dupes.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/aurora-beacon-news/news/ct-nvs-dupage-election-merger-hearing-st-0111-20170110-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: “There has to be a procedure for true bipartisanship,” said Elmhurst resident Bob Peikert, who is chairman of the DuPage Democratic Party organization. “When the Republican chair of the county board is choosing which Democrats will be on the election commission, that is not bipartisanship.” Janice Anderson is a Naperville resident and newly-elected District 5 DuPage County Board member. “Ideally, I don’t think anyone on the election commission should be partisan,” said Anderson, a Republican. “I think the chairman has made some good picks, previously. You look as who’s the best person for a position.”)

https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/an-inside-look-at-the-international-lgbt-leaders-conference-and-what-really
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Walmart, AT&T, and Comcast were among the major corporate sponsors of the International LGBT Leaders Conference held December 8-10 to promote homosexual- and transgender-affirming laws, abortion, illegal immigration, and other “progressive” Democratic agendas. The conference, put on by the Gay and Lesbian Victory Institute — also known simply as the Victory Institute — was first envisioned as a recruiting event and strategy session to help place LGBTQ activists in a sympathetic Hillary Clinton administration. But with Donald Trump’s surprise victory on November 8, the event turned into a series of panel discussions on how to resist a Trump presidency and GOP-controlled Congress. The conference was hosted by the Washington Hilton Hotel, where President Ronald Reagan and three other men were shot in an assassination attempt in 1981. LifeSiteNews attended the Victory Institute conference, which drew more than 500 homosexual, bisexual and “transgendered” lawmakers as well as allied political and corporate activists from across the globe. This is the first of several articles on the conference, which offered a glimpse into President Obama’s success in pushing his LGBTQ policies in the United States and abroad and how difficult it will be to overturn them if President-elect Trump is so inclined. Victory Institute is associated with the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund, a political action committee that works to elect openly homosexual, bisexual, and transgendered individuals to public office. Among Victory Fund’s co-founders in 1991 is homosexual activist and major Democratic Party fundraiser Terry Bean, who in 2014 at age 66 was arrested by Portland, Oregon, police along with his 25-year-old ex-boyfriend, Kiah Lawson, on charges of sodomizing a 15-year-old boy. As LifeSiteNews reported, Bean, who is also a co-founder of the LGBTQ lobby group Human Rights Campaign, was charged with two felony charges of third-degree sodomy and one count of third-degree sex abuse. The sex abuse charges against Bean were dropped after the boy fled and refused to testify following “an offer by Bean to end the case with a so-called ‘civil compromise’ in which Bean would pay the young man $225,000 and avoid a criminal trial,” Willamette Week reported. A transcript of a police interview with Lawson reveals that Bean reportedly knew the boy he was “hooking up” with sexually was underage and tried to coach him to say he was 18. A corporate-funded “gay insiders” army  Far more than on the abortion issue, in the LGBTQ “culture war” the homosexual-transgender lobby has a huge advantage over its pro-family opponents in both funding and the number of fully engaged activists. As homosexual power grew especially through two Obama terms, these conferences have gained more and more funding and sponsorships from large corporations, which have embraced the LGBTQ movement’s paradigm of viewing homosexualism and transgenderism strictly from a “civil rights” perspective. The Victory Institute conference was no exception. Most speaker panels were sponsored by a major corporation whose representative gave opening remarks touting that company’s commitment to LGBTQ issues. Here are some of the themes observed at the International LGBT Leaders conference: Openly “gay” and homosexually “married” American ambassadors — all men — discuss how living “out” proudly and publicly with their same-sex “husband” changes minds in the foreign nations in which they serve. They understand their role in normalizing “gay marriage” and the immoral homosexual lifestyle abroad. LGBTQ activists in the military discuss how they pushed for open homosexuality and then open transgenderism in the Armed Forces, and how transgender activists used key meetings with the Pentagon’s top brass to advance their gender-confusion agenda (without Congress). Why homosexual and transgender activists think it will be difficult to “roll back” many pro-LGBT policies enacted by President Obama — even transgenderism in the military. Representatives of major corporations (all conference sponsors) discuss how they are crucial to stopping “religious freedom” legislation at the state level. Corporate power is now central to LGBTQ lobbying nationwide. Homosexual (illegal) “immigration” activists apply homosexual activist “coming out” and victimhood tactics to their push for amnesty — comparing coming out as “gay” or “transgender” to coming out as an “undocumented” immigrant. How LGBTQ activists work hand-in-hand with other “progressive” agendas including abortion-on-demand, amnesty/“rights” for illegal immigrants, gun control and radical feminism — almost exclusively working with Democrats. When corporate America funds the LGBTQ movement, it mostly finances the left. LGBTQ activists adore President Obama for so aggressively pushing homosexual, bisexual and transgender policies at all levels of the federal government — and across the world by leveraging American power and his bully pulpit. Obama gave LGBTQ activists almost everything they wanted. He is a big part of the success of the “gay” and “transgender” revolution in the United States. But will Trump and the Republicans coming to power in Washington have the will to reverse it in any significant way?. . .Corporate Sponsors  The following were major corporate sponsors of the International LGBT Leaders Conference 2016: AARP, AT&T, Altria (cigarette and tobacco products), Coca-Cola, Comcast, Dow, Gilead (drug manufacturer), Pfizer, PG&E, Southwest Airlines, State Farm, Toyota, Union Pacific, Walmart, and Xylem (water technology). A future article will report on how so many major corporations are pushing LGBTQ policies to the point of becoming culture-war power players in stopping social conservative legislation. That includes laws designed to protect the freedom of citizens and small businesses not to participate in homosexual “marriages” and other aspects of the gay-trans agenda, according to the dictates of their conscience. As the reader will observe from these reports, homosexual and transgender activists lean heavily left and toward the Democratic Party. No panelists were seen speaking in support of Donald Trump or the Republican Party, and no homosexual Republicans, much less traditional GOP conservatives, were represented. Two days after Trump’s electoral win, Victory Fund President & CEO Aisha C. Moodie-Mills issued a statement that read in part, “Today I am heartbroken that racist, xenophobic, sexist and transphobic demagoguery won last night’s presidential election.” Time will tell whether major corporations ostensibly serving consumers of all persuasions — from far-left progressives to tea party conservatives — will pay a price for financing and aligning so closely with leftist LGBTQ politics of this sort.)

The previous freezes did not result in a significant reduction in the size of the workforce, yet served, the letter said, “to decrease efficiency, transparency, and accountability government-wide at the expense of the public safety and American taxpayer dollars.” Instead of controlling federal full-time employment, agencies increased temporary and part-time workers. “They also resorted to an extraordinary reliance on private contractors,” the Democrats wrote.)

  1. LOUIS POST DISPATCH
    — Rep. William Lacy Clay returns controversial painting to Capitol wall, tries to file charges against colleague Duncan Hunter – Chuck Raasch
    http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/govt-and-politics/clay-returns-controversial-painting-to-capitol-wall-tries-to-file/article_005d92e8-20a3-513f-8e74-6457f650792f.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Clay also tried to file theft charges against that colleague, Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., although Capitol Police had not indicated to him late Tuesday morning whether they will follow through with Clay’s complaint. In a short address in a tunnel between the Capitol and House office buildings, Clay depicted the debate as part of the culture wars dividing the country. “This is really not about a student art competition anymore,” Clay, D-St. Louis, said after he and a handful of colleagues put it back on a wall amidst 400 other winners of a high school art contest sponsored by members of Congress. “It’s about defending the Constitution.” He said this just after passing Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., in the tunnel where the painting hangs. Hunter and Clay, who are good friends and whose congressional offices are next door to one another, didn’t speak to each other as they passed. Hunter, citing 18-year-old artist David Pulphus’s depiction of police as animals, which many have interpreted as pigs, said it was offensive. A scrum of about 15 reporters and photographers who had gathered around Hunter shifted to Clay, who led a handful of Congressional Black Caucus members in putting the painting back up where it originally was. It may not be there for good, however. Congressional Republicans are discussing removing it officially as a violation of congressional rules on the art that prevents the competition from depicting controversial “contemporary” issues. Clay said he’d defend the painting through that process as a First Amendment expression of an 18-year-old constituent. “I don’t have a disagreement with that,” he said of the process. “But there is a procedure to follow. You can’t have culture warriors walking around here like they are in charge of something.” Clay told reporters that he had no opinion on the painting, which police groups and others have criticized as depicting police as hog-like animals. Clay said critics should put themselves in Pulphus’s place, as a teenaged black male, who had witnessed the highly publicized shootings of young black men throughout his teen years. Including, “in his own community,” the shooting death of black teenager Michael Brown by Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson when Pulphus was 16. Those shootings, Clay said in an interview with the Post-Dispatch, were “animalistic.” While police groups have criticized the painting, Clay received a local police ally over the weekend in St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson. “Police officers are not art critics,” Dotson said during a discussion Saturday night at Harris-Stowe State University kicking off Missouri’s official events honoring the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He called Clay a “strong supporter” of police and said Clay’s desire to hang the painting is in keeping with protecting the First Amendment. The painting by former Cardinal Ritter High School Senior Pulphus – now a college student – has drawn intense scrutiny after critics noticed that it depicted police officers as animals. Some police groups criticized the painting as divisive and not a true depiction of the shooting death of Michael Brown by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson in 2014. Hunter removed the painting and left it in Clay’s office on Friday, saying it offended him and denigrated police. Hunter told the Post-Dispatch he had gotten “thousands” of calls and social media messages in support, many from police officers or their families. The painting was on display for six months before critics attacked it, in the middle of hundreds of other paintings by high school art contest winners from around the country. Clay Tuesday blamed “alt-right” media for stirring up the problem, and fellow Congressional Black Caucus members depicted the controversy as an extension of Republican President-elect Donald Trump’s attacks on the media. Hunter said he was making a statement and would not seek to remove it again if Clay puts it back up. But other Republicans, upset at the depiction of police, hinted they may seek official congressional action to take it down permanently. Clay would fight that. “I do not agree or disagree with this painting,” Clay said after he helped put it back up. But he noted that statues elsewhere in the Capitol depict slaveholders and avowed racists that offend him, but he hasn’t demanded they be removed. “I will fight to defend this young man’s right to express himself because his artwork is true for him and he is entitled to that protection under the law,” Clay said, referring to Pulphus. At the forum in St. Louis Saturday night, Dotson referred to the painting as the “elephant in the room.” “Sam Dotson can have an opinion and may not like the painting, but Sam Dotson the police chief or any police officer cannot have an opinion about it because that young man has a right to have his voice heard and it’s our job to make sure his rights are protected,” he said.)

— As Trump eyes Dodd-Frank, Chicago’s trading interests gear up for a battle – LYNNE MAREK  (DIERSEN: What do you know about swaps?  In 1997, I knew as much about swaps as anyone at GAO.  GAO audits federal financial industry regulators.  All during my last 8 years at GAO, I worked on audits that involved swaps.  In addition, I earned a master’s degree from IIT in financial markets and trading in 1997.  GAO wasted my knowledge of swaps when it forced me to retire in 1997.  GAO would not have done that if I had been a Democrat, a minority, a woman, younger, or a veteran.)
http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20170107/ISSUE01/301079996/as-trump-eyes-dodd-frank-chicago-derivatives-biz-gears-up-for-fight
(FROM THE ARTICLE: For all the Trump team talk about gutting President Barack Obama’s landmark financial law, Chicago’s trading community is wagering that at least part of it will stick: swaps reform. Swaps were a villain in the Great Recession, and Obama’s 2010 Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform & Consumer Protection Act pushed them from clubby, private bank transactions onto public platforms. There they became a welcome addition to the Chicago trading world. President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming team has vowed to dismantle the law, but Chicago’s trading interests won’t easily give up the companies, products and venues created after Wall Street banks’ grip on the swaps market was loosened. Financial exchanges like CME Group and trading firms such as Citadel have generated tens of millions of dollars in new swaps business, and they’ll be reluctant to let go of the new infrastructure built on Dodd-Frank’s Title VII, which set up a framework for the regulation of swaps markets. “People now are getting used to the standards,” says Brian Liston, co-founder and president of Seed CX, which launched a new Chicago swaps trading platform. “They should really change Title VII slowly if they have to, and ultimately I don’t think they’re going to.” Swaps are financial shorthand for arrangements in which parties agree to swap the risk associated with financial contracts tied to underlying values, like interest rates. In the 2008 financial crisis, those privately negotiated deals in the subprime mortgage market blew up and swamped major institutions with defaults.)
