http://www.westernfreepress.com/2016/07/14/legislation-on-illinois-governor-rauners-desk-to-appoint-muslim-advisory-council/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: As Ms. Geller asks, I reiterate and wholeheartedly agree: “Why a Muslim council? Where’s the Hindu council, Jewish council, Pagan council, Church of Scientology council, Christian council?” Why is it Imam Kareem Infra and his Muslim counterparts should get special preference in an advisory capacity to Illinois governmental matters?  They, like all Illinois residents, enjoy the sacred right and privilege to cast votes in Illinois elections.  That is how Illinois residents participate in government matters.  It appears to me, by their recent request to the Governor,  that Imam Infra and his group feel they should have more influence in the government than the average Illinois voter?! Well I say no!  And I emphatically say no given the history of this Imam and his nefarious relationships, including his stint as Chairman of ISNA, which was named an unindicted co-conspirator back in the 2008 Holy Land Foundation (HLF) terrorist-financing trial. I called Gov Rauner’s office this morning and expressed my concern and “Mia” who said she would pass my comments on to the Governor.  I then asked for an appointment with Governor Rauner, awaiting a call back. Please folks, pick up your phones today and call Governor Rauner’s office and ask why he might feel that Imam Infra and his Muslim group should have more influence on Illinois government matters than the average Illinois taxpayer.  Let him know that if that is the case and he agrees, then you would like him to consider legislation for a Jewish Advisory Council, a Catholic Advisory Council, how about an Irish Advisory Council, and Italian Advisory Council, a Polish Advisory Council. The Springfield office number for Governor Rauner is  217-782-0244. We pay plenty of taxes in this state and we absolutely have “earned” the right to be heard on this important matter involving our government.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Illinois Republican Party seems to be changing its tone about Donald Trump’s candidacy – at least a little bit. When the Illinois Republican Party appointed delegates to the national convention – they picked some people who have been vocal in opposing Donald Trump’s candidacy. Governor Bruce Rauner won’t talk about Trump – or the presidential campaign. And other top Illinois Republicans are skipping the convention – and have said they won’t support Trump. These actions led some Trump delegates like Anthony Anderson to say they’re also skipping the conventions, out of protest. ANDERSON: I realize Illinois is a blue state, but for Pete’s sake, they’re not even lifting a finger. In response – the state Republican Party released an unusually direct statement (LINK?) supporting Donald Trump…and highlighting the party’s connections to the Trump campaign.)

http://www.wmay.com/2016/07/13/rauner-signs-order-to-boost-minority-female-businesses/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Minority- and female-owned businesses could have an easier time getting state contracts under an executive order signed by Governor Bruce Rauner. The initiative could include the creation of more “sheltered markets,” where certain state requests for bids are set aside for businesses owned by women, minorities or persons with disabilities. Rauner says those groups often have less opportunity to fully participate in the state economy.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: This morning, several legislators held a press conference in Chicago calling for the removal of the Illinois Auditor General.  They filed a House Joint Resolution to initiate the process. “Auditor General Mautino is not able to perform his duties with the trust and confidence that Illinoisans deserve,” Rep. Kay said. “If he will not do the right thing on his own and step aside, we have a responsibility as the people’s elected representatives to hold him accountable,” Add Rep. Ives  The people of Illinois are witnessing first-hand what Benjamin Franklin’s answer to that famous question of  “what kind of government did you give us”, really means.  “A republic if you can keep it.”  This, ladies and gentlemen, is how you keep it!  Action by responsible people elected and entrusted to take action based on the best interest of the state, not themselves. This is a troubling sign that indicates a weak economy – and the loss of adult taxpayers and their children. – Michael Lucci (DIERSEN: The Democrats who run Illinois focus on driving Republicans out of Illinois, and especially those who are Protestant, conservative, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time because they are more likely to stay Republican.)

— Sharia: Illinois To Create Official State Government Muslim Council  (DIERSEN: From the West Suburban Patriots: VETO Illinois – SB574 (Muslim Advisory Council)  FOLKS, YOU HAVE TO CALL Governor Bruce Rauner’s office: (217) 782-0244  or (312) 814-2121 and give your opinion on this bill  You can also email him at:
gov.goca@illinois.gov  Here’s a letter one of our patriots wrote to the Governor: Please Veto SB 574  Article One, Section three of the Illinois constitution contains a clause that says NO PREFERENCE SHALL BE GIVEN BY LAW TO ANY RELIGION. I would argue all day long the creation of a muslim advisory council gives preference to Islam and therefore violates the Illinois constitution; since one can only be a muslim if he/she is an practitioner of Islam.  The muslim advisory council could easily be called Islamic American advisory council, because the religion of Islam is where muslim guidance will come from, Islamic doctrine and shariah  ARTICLE 1, SECTION 3. RELIGIOUS FREEDOM  The free exercise and enjoyment of religious profession and worship, without discrimination, shall forever be guaranteed, and no person shall be denied any civil or political right, privilege or capacity, on account of his religious opinions; but the liberty of conscience hereby secured shall not be construed to dispense with oaths or affirmations, excuse acts of licentiousness, or justify practices inconsistent with the peace or safety of the State. No person shall be required to attend or support any ministry or place of worship against his consent, nor shall any preference be given by law to any religious denomination or mode of worship. ~ (Source: Illinois Constitution.)  If the state proposed advisory council was called the Christian American advisory council Act, the screams from the left would be deafening. Gov Rauner, there is a very sound reason why no other state has such a muslim advisory council, it’s because such a law violates every “separation of church and state” type clauses contained in every state constitution…. just as it will be contrary to the one enshrined within the Illinois constitution.  Respecting the Illinois constitution isn’t optional…  Mr Governor, it’s your duty to VETO SB 574, the “muslim American Advisory council Act ”, you must uphold the rule of law!)

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/reince-diversity-of-experience
(FROM THE ARTICLE: With Donald Trump’s reported vice presidential prospects all white men, RNC chair Reince Priebus wants people to focus on another type of diversity: the diversity of experience. In an interview Wednesday, CNN’s Wolf Blitzer questioned Priebus about previous comments he made hoping Trump’s veep hopefuls would be “diverse.” When Blitzer asked him if he was disappointed that no people of color or women made the cut, Priebus said that is not what diversity means to Trump. “Well, I know that all of those things are on the table and I think it also comes down to who he thinks is most compatible, and who would be best for our country,” Priebus said. “There is also diversity of experience, and sometimes something that would be beneficial that I think he is also looking at. He has been pretty clear that having experience in matters in both governing in Washington and your state as an executive, he talked about foreign policy experience as another issue to be thought about and discussed. So diversity from Donald Trump as an outsider, a successful businessman, is these choices that he is looking at.” Blitzer followed up to see if this was the type of diversity Priebus had in mind when he made his comments and Priebus doubled down on the comments. “Look, for each presidential candidate, the diversity that you seek in the spot that you’re, you know, the vice presidential spot can be a lot of things,” he said. “It can be all of the above, experience, gender, race, that is an important ingredient.” Trump’s veep finalists reportedly include New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R), former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich and Indiana Gov. Mike Pence (R). Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA), one of the only women discussed, took herself out of the running earlier this month.)

— Some Illinois Trump Delegates Skipping Convention In Protest Of State Republican Party – Tony Arnold
https://www.wbez.org/shows/_/some-illinois-trump-delegates-skipping-convention-in-protest-of-state-republican-party/12dccfd9-c948-4c29-a2bf-890827ea9afe
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Some Illinois delegates for Donald Trump are not going to go to the Republican National Convention next week to nominate their candidate. They say their decision is at least in part because of the tepid support Trump has received from the Illinois Republican Party. Rich Nordstrom was elected to be a delegate for Donald Trump by almost 25,000 voters in Illinois’ 17th Congressional District. Nordstrom is the mayor of Galva, Ill., a town of about 3,000 people between Peoria and Moline, Ill. Nordstrom is enthusiastic about Trump as the Republican nominee for president, but he’s not so enthusiastic about going to the Republican National Convention next week, where delegates like him are supposed to cast a vote to officially name Donald Trump as the Republican presidential nominee. He said he was let down when he heard a lot of his own fellow Illinois Republicans won’t be there. Gov. Bruce Rauner, U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk and a few congressmen from Illinois have said they won’t go to the convention. Some of those top-ranking Illinois Republicans have been vocal in saying they won’t endorse Trump. “Now that we finally have a Republican governor after years of not having one, then basically kind of blowing off the convention – I thought it was kind of a letdown, a slap in the face,” Nordstrom said of Rauner. Nordstrom added that time and money also are a factor for why he may skip the convention. Delegates have to pay their own way to the convention. Nordstrom said he didn’t get a room at the hotel where the Illinois delegation is staying earlier, thinking the price of about $300 dollars per night was too much for him. Now, he said, he’s finding prices are closer to $500 a night. Nordstrom said he’ll see how he feels on Sunday – the day before the convention starts – while keeping his eye on rooms available on AirBnb. Although he’s quick to note he’s not excited about the prospects of sharing a room. Anthony Anderson is another Trump delegate. The Joliet resident was elected to represent Illinois’ 11th Congressional District in Cleveland to vote for Trump. Anderson said he is not going to the convention out of protest of the Illinois state Republican Party not supporting Trump. “There’s absolutely no room for me to change my mind for the simple fact I’ve thought long and hard,” he said. “I just don’t like what I see; what I see is a delegation that’s ready to go to Cleveland and undermine the process, at least so far as the Illinois delegation is concerned.” Anderson pointed out that the former chairman of the Illinois Republican Party, Pat Brady, said he won’t ever support Trump. “A former party chairman is going to go to Cleveland, Ohio and do everything he can to undermine the process and make the Illinois delegation look bad; and it really will make the Illinois delegation look bad and tattered,” Anderson said. “I’m not going to undermine the candidate,” Brady said of Anderson’s comments. “I’ve been a Republican for 45 years. I’m going to try to help the party and I think Donald Trump is going to be a trainwreck for the Republican Party.” Brady won election to be a delegate for Ohio Gov. John Kasich, which means Brady has to vote for Kasich at the convention. Brady said he’s not happy to hear Trump delegates like Anderson are skipping the convention – but he also acknowledges that their absence helps his cause of trying to stop Trump from receiving the Republican nomination. “If 10 percent of the delegates don’t show up or don’t get viable replacements or valid replacements, I think his nomination could be in jeopardy,” Brady said. “I would think that that’s pretty unlikely,” said John Fogarty, the general counsel for the Illinois Republican Party. Fogarty said the party already knows at least five delegates who are not attending. And there could be more. A party spokesman said things are still in flux. Party leaders are trying to contact alternate delegates who won election in March. “Delegate and alternate delegate vacancies are routine and occur nationwide every Presidential election cycle,” Illinois Republican Party spokesman Aaron DeGroot said in a statement. But the party had no comment on criticisms from its own delegation about its own party not supporting Trump. Fogarty says when Trump delegates fail to show up in Cleveland, the odds for people like Pat Brady to prevent Trump from becoming the nominee are better – but he said they’re still very long odds to overcome.)

http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20160713/news/160719667/#autoplay
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Only one creature on this planet is so loathed that Illinois created special taxing districts to combat its presence. While the pesky mosquito lacks size, it can pack a pretty significant wallop for suburban taxpayers, especially for some who are paying multiple agencies to battle the bugs. “Why am I paying for two mosquito abatements? That seems like government bloat,” said Wheaton resident Mary Ann Vitone. “There shouldn’t be duplication like that here.”  Vitone lives within the Wheaton Mosquito Abatement District, a 22-square-mile swath of central DuPage County where $425,578 was spent last year to control the mosquito population, or $19,344 per square mile. She also lives in Milton Township, which spent an additional $48,066 total to fight the pests, according to agency financial reports. Some Carol Stream residents might be paying taxes for three different agencies to ward off mosquitoes. The village spent $76,063 last year, Bloomingdale Township spent $166,980, and the West Chicago Mosquito Abatement District spent $163,051. And they aren’t the only ones. In Glen Ellyn, some taxpayers are paying for double coverage from Milton Township and the Glen Ellyn Mosquito Abatement District.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Chicago media provided new levels of embarrassment at the press conference held by Governor Bruce Rauner on July 12. After announcing the formation of a bipartisan commission that will attempt to change the state’s controversial education funding formula, Gov. Rauner opened the floor to questions, saying: “With that, I’m going to open it up to questions, and I’ll say this: I realize there are a lot of topics people are gonna want to talk about. I will ask today—I’ll be with you tomorrow and I’ll be with you the next day here in Chicago with the press, so we can talk about other things on other days—I’d ask that your questions be about education today.” This didn’t prevent ABC 7‘s Charles Thomas and NBC 5‘s Mary Ann Ahern from almost immediately and repeatedly disregarding the Governor’s request and questioning Rauner about Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee whom Rauner has said he won’t endorse. At the time of Gov. Rauner’s press conference, Trump was in Chicago hosting a fundraiser. “I’ve said everything I’m going to say about the presidential race,” Rauner responded. Ahern, in particular, pressed Gov. Rauner about the topics of Trump and Indiana Governor Mike Pence, a potential vice presidential pick, several more times, and seemed indignant when the Governor declined to discuss a topic he’s already addressed and that was not at all related to the reason for the Q&A session: the new commission tasked with revamping the state’s education funding formula. It was painfully evident that certain members of the media were far more interested in backing Rauner into a corner and getting a controversial and spin-able sound bite on the presidential race than they were in discussing a more equitable school funding formula, an issue that will have a significant impact on the schoolchildren of Illinois, particularly those who live in low-income districts. It gets worse, though. The award for most irresponsible and misleading journalist of the day goes not to Thomas or Ahern but to the Chicago Tribune’s Kim Geiger for her piece summarizing the press conference.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: “Not since Woodrow Wilson has a president so firmly believed that he was the instrument of God’s will,” Smith writes. “Just as Wilson’s religious certitude led him into disaster at Versailles, so George W. Bush’s messianic conviction distorted his leadership in the days following 9/11.”  Bush, Smith writes, “was in over his head,” and he bumbled into the invasion of Iraq by using bogus intelligence. http://www.nbcchicago.com/blogs/ward-room/Donald-Trump-Fundraiser-Chicago–386332871.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump will host a big-ticket fundraiser Tuesday in Chicago, his first campaign trip to the Windy City since his canceled rally at the UIC Pavilion in March erupted in protests and fights. Tickets for the event range from $10,000 to $100,000, according to Lynn Sweet of the Chicago Sun-Times. The lunch fundraiser will be held at an undisclosed location. Donors making a $10,000 donation to Trump’s campaign will receive a ticket for Tuesday’s lunch, while a $25,000 donation yields two tickets and a photo opportunity. The biggest ticket, $100,000, gets donors access to a VIP roundtable, photo opportunity and two tickets to the lunch. Trump last visited Chicago in the lead-up to the March 15 primary. The divisive billionaire cancelled a rally at the last minute after protesters and supporters clashed at the UIC Pavilion, where the event was scheduled to take place. Nevertheless, Trump won the state’s Republican primary with nearly 39 percent of the vote. Trump’s campaign was short on details about Tuesday’s event, only noting that it was “closed to the press.” The event is being hosted by Trump Victory Illinois finance chairman Ron Gidwitz, a powerful GOP fundraiser in Illinois. Trump’s opponent, presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, will host her own big-ticket fundraiser Wednesday in Wilmette. The fundraiser will be hosted by Cubs co-owner Laura Ricketts and her wife, Brooke.)

— GOP platform fight gets heated over LGBT rights – Jonathan Easley
http://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/287271-gop-platform-fight-gets-heated-over-lgbt-rights
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Republicans crafting a party platform on Monday argued over religious liberty, gay marriage and LGBT rights, highlighting divisions in the party over social issues. Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus and Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), chairman of the Platform Committee, floated in and out of conference rooms at the cavernous Huntington Convention Center to oversee the skirmishes that broke out among delegates over the party’s planks. The most heated exchanges took place in a subcommittee responsible for laying out the GOP platform on social issues. The majority of the panel was made up of hard-line social conservatives such as Family Research Council President Tony Perkins. Perkins and other social conservatives on the panel had a strong enough majority to push through the bulk of the measures they sought. But the Perkins wing was met with vocal opposition from Annie Dickerson, an adviser to billionaire GOP donor Paul Singer, who is a proponent of gay marriage and other issues championed by the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. Dickerson fumed as her socially liberal proposals went down and the socially conservative measures she opposed sailed through the subcommittee. At one point, Dickerson, who has adopted children, accused others on the committee of “blatant discrimination” over an amendment that would keep publicly funded adoption agencies from giving custody of children to gay couples. “We need children to be adopted, so hooray to the gay community for trying to raise children in a happy and stable home,” Dickerson said. “I object to allowing patent discrimination against gays over the right to adopt. … This is blatant discrimination and should not be in our platform.”  Dickerson lost that battle and essentially every other battle she waged. At times she stared down Perkins and expressed exasperation after votes went against her. “Unbelievable,” she said after the adoption measure passed. The 16-member subcommittee, made up of 13 women and three men, rejected Dickerson’s request to remove language in the platform that “salutes” states like North Carolina for passing controversial bathroom laws that critics say discriminate against transgender people. She protested language that said the party supports “traditional marriage and the families a husband and wife create,” arguing instead for a provision that said children should be “raised in a loving and stable home.”  And she argued against having language in the platform that opposes the Supreme Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage. “They’re not going to change the ruling,” Dickerson said. “I know it’s hard, but that’s the law of the land.” But Dickerson was overpowered every step of the way, winning only occasional support from a handful of other women on the panel. One delegate cited the Ten Commandments to argue against Dickerson’s proposal to remove language from the platform about how a “mother and father” provide the best environment in which to raise children. “The social code of justice for the last 5,000 years is based on the Ten Commandments, which says ‘mother and father,’ ” the delegate said. “I just don’t think you can dispute that.” Discussions about social issues also sprang up in the subcommittee tasked with developing the party’s economic plank. Ohio delegate David Johnson, who owns a small business in the state, criticized what he characterized as federal government overreach in responding to transgender bathroom laws. “I hope we’re not getting this politically correct crap about transgender bathrooms,” he said during a debate about how to word a business nondiscrimination clause. “Any press person who comes to me and says, do you support that? My answer is no. If we’re telling employers to make provisions for 16 different people—“ “You’d have 16 different bathrooms,” another delegate said. “However, we do support nondiscrimination,” responded Andy Puzder, the chairman of the subcommittee and CEO of CKE Restaurants, which owns the Carl’s Jr. and Hardees brands. Republican Party leaders are working to hammer out a platform that stays true to core conservative principles while also fitting the mold of their unconventional presumptive presidential nominee and the nation’s rapidly changing culture.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois  Claim: “I put so many states in play: Michigan being one. Illinois.” — Trump, speaking in late May, a claim he made again last week. Evidence: Illinois hasn’t backed a Republican presidential candidate since 1988. Clinton led Trump by 25 percentage points in a poll in early March. Trump’s own political director is not focusing on the state, and the Republican National Committee has not sent any paid staffers. Advantage: Clinton. The poll is more out-of-date than in some other states, but there’s little evidence things have changed since then.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Some 500 alumni and students at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School have signed a letter rebuking Donald Trump for “xenophobia, sexism, racism, and other forms of bigotry that you have actively and implicitly endorsed in your campaign.”  Trump, a Wharton graduate and the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, has spoken glowingly of his experience at the renowned business school. Two of his children also studied there. It was not clear to what extent Wharton graduates and students writ large are dismayed by Trump’s candidacy and his affiliation with the school. While the letter had more than 500 signatories as of Saturday, Wharton itself claims to have about 94,000 alumni from 152 countries.)

CRAIN’S CHICAGO BUSINESS
— How the state financial mess could still kill college dreams for thousands – STEVEN R. STRAHLER (DIERSEN: How did you pay for your college expenses? I paid for my college expenses while I attended UIC full-time 1966-1968 and then NIU full-time 1969-1970 with money that I earned working for the Park Forest Post Office for about $15/hour in today’s dollars part-time during the school years and full-time during the summers of 1967, 1968, and 1969. My outstanding parents provided me with room and board in their home in Crete 1966, 1967, 1968, weekends during my first semester at NIU in 1969, and the summer of 1969. That allowed me to save enough money to stay at University Plaza Dormitory for two semesters in 1969 and one in 1970 and then to share an apartment for the 1970 summer session at Lincolnshire West Apartments.  I graduated debt-free in August of 1970 with a bachelor’s degree in management, a 1969 Dodge Charger SE, and a job working for Firestone in its Chicago Heights store.  If tuition back then was as high as it is now, I doubt that back then I would have had enough money to buy a new 1968 Oldsmobile 442 in 1967 and a new 1969 Dodge Charger SE in 1968.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The state’s budget mess could delay or even kill chances for completion of college degrees for as many as 18,000 recipients of state financial aid, according to the agency that administers the grants. About one in seven respondents to a survey by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission said they were doubtful of returning to college this fall because of funding issues involving the Monetary Award Program.)

http://www.gopusa.com/?p=12107
(FROM THE ARTICLE: “Nativism … xenophobia or worse” is behind the triumph of Brexit and the support for Donald Trump, railed President Barack Obama in Ottawa. Obama believes that resistance to transformational change in the character and identity of countries of the West, from immigration, can only be the product of sick minds or sick hearts. According to The New York Times, he will spend the last months of his presidency battling “the nativism and nationalism” of Trump and “Britain’s Brexiteers.” Prediction: Obama will fail. For rising ethnonationalism and militarization of frontiers is baked in the cake, if the West wishes to remain the West. Behind that prediction lie the startling figures of the U.N.’s “World Population 2015” chart, which just arrived. Consider but a few of those figures. Between now and 2050, Europe will lose 32 million people. Not one European nation has a fertility rate — 2.1 children per woman — sufficient to keep it alive. A quarter of all Europeans are 60 or older. The tribes that created the West are passing away. Contrast Europe with Africa, just across the Mediterranean. Between now and 2050, Africa will add 1.3 billion people, to reach 2.4 billion in 2050. Then its population will double again, to 4.4 billion, by 2100. Only 5 percent of Africans are 60 or older, while 41 percent of Africans are 15 or younger. Given the tyranny, destitution and disease that afflict Africa, what — other than barriers, border guards and warships — is there to stop tens of millions of young African men from crossing over in coming decades to fill the empty spaces left by dying Europeans? The Arab-Muslim population of North Africa alone, from the western Sahara and Morocco to Egypt and Sudan, will add 130 million people in 35 years. Egypt will add 60 million, to reach a population of 151 million by 2050. Yet Egypt will still have only the fifth-highest population of Muslims, behind Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh and India. While impossible to find a Western country with a fertility rate that will prevent its native-born people from dying off, it is difficult to find a Muslim country that does not boast a rising or exploding population. If the future belongs to the young, it belongs to Asians, Africans and Latin Americans, and it belongs to Islam. Eastern Europe presents the grimmest picture in Europe. Between now and 2050, Poland will lose 5 million people; Ukraine almost 10 million; and Russia 15 million. Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia will see one-sixth of their combined population disappear. Such losses are comparable to those of World War II. In percentage terms, Ukraine will suffer most. By midcentury, its population will have shrunk by 21 percent, to 35 million. Is this not a graver matter than whose flag flies over Crimea? The bleakest prospects belong to Japan, home to some of the most capable, industrious and advanced people on earth. Between now and 2050, Japan will lose 19 million people and see its population fall to 107 million. A third of the nation is already 60 or older. Only 1 in 7 Japanese are under 16. Japanese are the oldest people on earth. In coming decades, a large slice of Japan’s population will be working to support health care, pensions and welfare for the aged, infirm and dying. And the United States? With Mexico and Central America adding 56 million people in 35 years, either the U.S. secures its southern border or the 11-12 million immigrants here illegally will have millions of new compatriots. America is already evolving into another country. Though the U.S. is projected to grow by 67 million people in 35 years, this growth will be wholly among Hispanics, Asians and African-Americans. In each of the past four years, non-Hispanic white Americans have registered more deaths than births. Between July 2014 and July 2015, the Asian-American population grew by 3.4 percent, and the Hispanic population grew 2.2 percent. The black population was up 1.3 percent. But the white population grew by only 0.1 percent. White America has begun to die. Can Obama really believe that amnesty for undocumented immigrants is still in the cards with a Republican Congress scorched by the forces behind Trump? Can he believe that the right-wing parties proliferating across Europe, which see their nations imperiled by a rising tide of Muslim immigrants and refugees, will pack it in and support the EU’s march to a transnational superstate that controls immigration and borders? What has been tabled for discussion this year, in Europe and America, is the future of the West as an identifiable civilization to be cherished and defended by the peoples whose ancestors created it. And Obama’s reverence for Islam notwithstanding, the West remains the greatest civilization of them all. Belatedly, Western Man appears to have decided to defend the shire, pull up the drawbridge, and man the parapets on the castle walls. As for Trumpism and the Brexiteers, Mr. President, in the words of Jimmy Durante, “you ain’t seen nothing yet.”)

If an official at, say, the NIH or FBI think that a woman should be a mother for some reason or other, he or she can block an abortion. Maybe the woman has great genes or a high IQ or the sorts of financial resources we need in parents. Let’s leave that decision where it belongs: in the hands of the government. Heck, there’s really no reason even to tell women if they’re on the “no abort” list. Let them find out at the clinic. And if they go in for an abortion only to discover they are among the million or more people on the list, there will be no clear process for getting off it, even if it was a bureaucratic error or case of mistaken identity. Sound like a good idea?)

— DIVIDED AMERICA: Town and country offer differing realities – AP
http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20160704/business/307049999/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: There are few divides in the United States greater than that between rural and urban places. Town and country represent not just the poles of the nation’s two political parties, but different economic realities that are transforming the 2016 presidential election. Cities are trending Democratic and are on an upward economic swing, with growing populations and rising property values. Rural areas are increasingly Republican, steadily shedding population for decades, and as commodity and energy prices drop, increasingly suffering economically. The political divide goes even deeper than simply between the two parties. In the GOP primary, rural areas voted reliably for Donald Trump and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, whose angrier style of politics many analysts argued were too harsh and off-putting to play well with a broader electorate. Urban and suburban Republicans were more likely to support candidates widely seen as more electable like Florida Sen. Marco Rubio or Ohio Gov. John Kasich. “The urban-rural split this year is larger than anything we’ve ever seen,” said Scott Reed, a political strategist for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce who has advised previous GOP campaigns. While plenty of cities still struggle with endemic poverty and joblessness, a report from the Washington-based Economic Innovation Group found that half of new business growth in the past four years has been concentrated in 20 populous counties.)

Those people were considered ‘unchurched’ who had not attended any religious service in the last six months except weddings or funerals, and for holidays. FRONT PAGE MAGAZINE
— THE WORST SMEAR SITE IN AMERICA  The Southern Poverty Law Center smears patriots and provides cover for the nation’s enemies. – Matthew Vadum
http://www.frontpagemag.com/fpm/263332/worst-smear-site-america-matthew-vadum
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The far-left Southern Poverty Law Center relentlessly promotes the Big Lie, wildly popular in the media, that conservative Americans are racists and the real threat to the nation rather than Islamic terrorists. The group claims the principal enemies of the American people are presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, conservatives like David Horowitz, and the Tea Party movement. The SPLC is a shamelessly hypocritical leftist attack machine funded by radical speculator George Soros and a rogue’s gallery of rich people and established philanthropies that want to fundamentally transform America. The fabulously wealthy 501(c)(3) nonprofit has an astounding one third of a billion dollars ($338 million) in assets, as well as investments in Bermuda and the Cayman Islands, two offshore tax havens the Left loves to attack (but only when non-leftists stash cash there). The Center characterizes all opposition to immigration and open borders as symptomatic of hate and all political expression of those views to be hate speech. In other words, if you disagree with founder Morris Dees and his minions you are evil and worthy of public condemnation. It may take some intellectual toughness to insist that the nation has the right to decide who may or may not cross its borders, but it’s not hate. Following the Islamist massacre at a gay club in Orlando a fortnight ago, the group has played an integral role in the Left’s propaganda push aimed at taking the focus away from gay-hating Islam and finding creative ways to blame conservatives and Republicans for the slaughter. Two days after Orlando as a sea of rainbow flags rivaling those that washed over Facebook and Twitter following the Supreme Court’s pro-same sex marriage ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges swept over social media, David Dinielli, deputy legal director of SPLC’s LGBT Rights Project, tossed out a red herring as he whined amidst a national outpouring of grief that somehow politicians weren’t doing enough to characterize the attack as an assault on the gay community. Instead of blaming Muslim terrorist Omar Mateen, reportedly a registered Democrat, for the attack, Dinielli blamed people like Donald Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) instead. Many politicians were secretly delighted so many gays were killed, he implied. “[M]any who offered their ‘thoughts and prayers’ know exactly what they are doing. They are trading on political expediency. The demonization of gay, lesbian, and transgender Americans pays, politically.” But this “demonization” of the LGBT community that the Southern Poverty Law Center complains of is pure paranoid fantasy. Anyone who followed media coverage in the days following the June 12 incident knows that cable TV and other media were filled with wall-to-wall denunciations of the Muslim terrorist Omar Mateen by politicians who acknowledged the sexual orientation of the victims whether explicitly or implicitly. Even those not generally sympathetic to gay rights made it clear that murder, including the murder of people based on their sexual preference, was morally abhorrent. None of this is surprising to those of us who have been tracking the SPLC’s adventures in vilification and defamation over the years. The SPLC is waging a scorched-earth war against Donald Trump. The group routinely and baselessly associates Trump with neo-Nazis, white nationalists, and other marginal political actors it calls “the racist right.” Pointing out that these fringe figures back Trump in the election is the most obvious kind of smear. The Left did the same thing to Ronald Reagan in 1984 when the Ku Klux Klan offered him its unwanted endorsement. Reagan waited a full two weeks to denounce the KKK and reject its endorsement. But Trump waited barely a day after a bungled CNN interview Feb. 28 in which Jake Tapper asked him if he would reject the Klan’s endorsement of him. Trump gave a less than clear answer to Tapper, blaming a “bad earpiece” that led him to misunderstand the question. The very next day Trump asked “How many times do I have to continue to disavow people?” and attacked the KKK on Michael Savage’s radio show. Replying to a question, he said “yeah, totally denounce, and I disavowed it, and I’ve disavowed it numerous times, and I’ve disavowed it on Twitter and on Facebook and all over the place but people refuse to accept it.” The SPLC’s annual report on “hate” in America this year features a cover picture of Trump, a man the group blames for increasing hate in the U.S. According to the left-wing Guardian (UK), “the image underscores a theme laid out by the report’s author, about how hate speech has invaded mainstream political discourse in a way that might have shocked many even a year ago.” “I have been writing these Year in Hate and Extremism essays for 20 years now, and only very rarely, if at all, have we seen a year like last year,” said SPLC senior fellow Mark Potok. Hate, of course, isn’t exactly a precise concept in the world of politics and ideology, and the SPLC likes it that way because then it has wide latitude to malign and slander its targets. Its leaders are no doubt proud that Pentagon training materials borrow from SPLC reports and refer to extremists as “haters,” a colloquialism that appears in hip hop music and in humorous graphic art posted on the Internet. Trump is definitely a hater, according to the Center. On April 4 its blog cited his “continued embrace of racist and extremist ideas” and accused him of turning “the political landscape on its side and introduced countless numbers to hate speech and racist conspiracy theories.” It’s all spin and lies. The SPLC is still bellyaching over the courageous, electrifying anti-illegal immigration speech Trump gave last summer when launching his campaign. In it Trump said many of the Mexicans crossing illegally into the U.S. are “people that have lots of problems” who bring drugs and crime with them and that some are “rapists.” Trump’s statements are demonstrably true. He wasn’t saying all Mexicans are criminals, just many of the Mexicans sneaking into the country. This isn’t racism: it is empirical fact. Many of the so-called hate groups the SPLC monitors are so labeled because they fail to genuflect before political correctness. The Center labels as hate groups respectable right-leaning organizations such as the Center for Security Policy (CSP), Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), American Freedom Defense Initiative, and the David Horowitz Freedom Center, which publishes FrontPage. The Southern Poverty Law Center frequently targets New York-based civil rights attorney David Yerushalmi, a co-founder of the American Freedom Law Center and counsel to CSP. In 2011 the SPLC named Yerushalmi to its 10-member “Anti-Muslim Inner Circle.” Among the other “members” of the inner circle are David Horowitz, Robert Spencer, Pamela Geller, and Brigitte Gabriel. According to the Center, the rhetoric these individuals use “reveals how doggedly this group works to provoke and guide populist anger over what is seen as the threat posed by the 0.6% of Americans who are Muslim — an agenda that goes beyond reasonable concern about terrorism into the realm of demonization.” The Guardian ran a story last week attacking Yerushalmi for daring to countersue a group of grandstanding Muslim women trying to shake down a Laguna Beach, Calif. café. The women filed a discrimination lawsuit claiming they were given the bum’s rush at the establishment because they were wearing hijabs. The café counters that the women violated the 45-minute seating time limit and that other headscarf-clad women present were not asked to leave. The newspaper regurgitated SPLC writings on Yerushalmi who maintains that the women’s lawyers are “ambulance-chasers” involved in “an extortion.” It reported: “Asked about the SPLC’s characterization of him, Yerushalmi said that he ‘represents a lot of Muslims.’ “I represent Muslim Americans, running from jihad and seeking asylum. If you want to say I’m an anti-jihad lawyer, you’re 100% right,” he continued. “Am I anti-Sharia? Yes, I am. Am I anti-Muslim? Not if he doesn’t have a gun in his hand shooting at me.’ “Yerushalmi alleged that the suit against Urth Caffe was part of a wider “civilizational jihad” waged by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) which aims, he said, “to weaken western civilization.” The SPLC never tires of trying to assassinate the character of David Horowitz. A May 24, 2014 profile calls him “the godfather of the modern anti-Muslim movement.”  Without presenting a shred of useful evidence, the Center separately smears Horowitz as “a driving force of the anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant and anti-black movements.”  Horowitz rejects these characterizations. On Monday he told this writer: “I’m called the godfather of the anti-Muslim movement, which puts a target on my back, whereas out of million words and scores of hours of speeches on the subject they couldn’t find one sentence to back up their claim.” The Southern Poverty Law Center has been playing this dangerous game for a long time. It doesn’t care if it gets innocent Americans killed. It came close to getting people killed four years ago. SPLC reports inspired left-wing terrorist Floyd Lee Corkins II to shoot up the Washington, D.C. headquarters of the Family Research Council four years ago. The Center identified FRC as a “hate group” not because it actually hates anyone but because it opposes same-sex marriage. Even the reliably left-wing Dana Milbank rejected that designation for FRC in an Aug. 16, 2012 Washington Post column, calling that group “a mainstream conservative think tank.” “I disagree with the Family Research Council’s views on gays and lesbians,” he wrote. “But it’s absurd to put the group, as the law center does, in the same category as Aryan Nations, Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, Stormfront and the Westboro Baptist Church.” Corkins apparently disagreed. Upon entering FRC’s office he reportedly said “I don’t like your politics” and shot a black Christian security guard who managed to subdue him and lived to forgive him. Later Corkins told investigators “Southern Poverty Law lists anti-gay groups,” the Washington Examiner reported at the time. “I found them online, did a little research, went to the website, stuff like that.” The gay rights-avenging shooter had planned to kill as many FRC staffers as possible and smear Chick-fil-A sandwiches — his backpack contained 15 of them — on their faces as a political statement. He chose that fast food chain whose management is unabashedly Christian because its president was revealed to be a supporter of traditional marriage. Corkins was convicted of terrorism in 2013 and sentenced to 25 years in prison. And when the next Floyd Corkins comes along and actually succeeds in killing someone targeted by the Southern Poverty Law Center, its staffers will direct blame elsewhere. Scapegoating is what they do best.)

http://townhall.com/columnists/brucebialosky/2016/07/03/federal-government-out-of-control-again-n2185920
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Our federal government suffers from lack of focus trying to do too many things while doing too many poorly. This behemoth allows for huge waste that gets buried in the apathy bred by the very definition of what happens when you are spending OPM (other people’s money). The GAO (Government Accountability Office) recently released a report about administrative leave in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that boggles the mind. Though the Washington Post covered the story, my inner soul told me as staggering as their report was they still were probably doing an inadequate job. Thus, I dug in to find the real story of how our money is being abused. The report was written by a team lead by Andrew Von Ah, the acting director of Homeland Security and Justice at the GAO. Mr. Von Ah was surprisingly responsive for a federal government employee. We connected a couple of times allowing me to address some of my insights from the 34-page report. The report focused only on administrative leave for the DHS. Administrative leave is defined as any paid leave that is not sick leave or vacation leave. What alarmed people was that, over the five years of the study (from 2011-2015), 116 DHS employees were on administrative leave for more than a year costing us over $19.8 million. From all appearances the agency did not have discernible consistent controls over how people were put on admin leave nor how long they stayed on leave.)

DENVER SPRINGS GAZETTE
— That ‘racist’ Summit in Denver – Editorial  (DIERSEN: Democrats run America.  Democrats run Illinois.  Democrats run Cook County.  Democrats run Chicago.  Sooner or later, if not already, Democrats will say that you are a racist, a bigot, a hater, and even worse things if you do not promote Democrats. How have those who do not promote Democrats reacted to that?  How are those who do not promote Democrats reacting to that?  How will those who do not promote Democrats react to that?  Will those who do not promote Democrats a) go to court and get restraining orders against Democrats, b) file lawsuits against Democrats charging them with slander, or c) take stronger actions?  From what I see, ever-increasingly, if a Democrat says that you are a racist, a bigot, a hater, or worse things, a) you will be fired if you have a job, b) you will not be able to get a job, and c) even worse things will happen to you.)
http://gazette.com/editorial-that-racist-summit-in-denver/article/1579534
(FROM THE EDITORIAL: White male protesters stood outside the Colorado Convention Center during the Western Conservative Summit, protesting a “racist” event going on inside. Shouting through bullhorns and waving obscene signs, with fists in the air, the protests occasionally turned violent as police formed a wall between the mob and Summit attendees Friday night. Protesters, mostly motivated by the presence of presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, conveyed a central theme: Conservatives are old, white, racist men of privilege. Signs said “Down with This Sort of Thing,” “America was Never Great” and “Purge White Supremacy.” Inside, an audience of thousands anxiously awaited Saturday night’s speech by Colorado’s Republican nominee for the United States Senate. He is Darryl Glenn, a black man who grew up in Colorado Springs, worked his way through the United States Air Force Academy, completed a military intelligence career, worked to support his family while finishing law school and won four local elections by landslides. Glenn symbolizes the possibilities afforded in a free society that defends equal opportunity. Because Glenn is black and conservative, much of the mainstream media wrote him off before the primary. After his nomination, journalist-pundit types effectively called the race for incumbent Sen. Michael Bennet a full seven months before a vote would be cast. At the “racist” Summit, attendees anticipated improving the Senate’s diversity by helping Glenn upset Bennet — a white man brought up in a prominent political family in Washington, D.C. While waiting for Glenn, the audience applauded a lineup of speakers considerably more diverse than the white-male protesters outside. A small sample includes: Kristina Arriaga, a young Hispanic female who serves as executive director of the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty. A lawyer who grew up in poverty, after her parents escaped Cuba, Arriaga has won several Supreme Court victories and defended the religious practices of American Indians and a variety of other religious minorities. Star Parker, a young black woman who grew up in rough neighborhoods of East St. Louis, Ill. After working her way through college, Parker established the Center for Urban Renewal and Education, based in Washington, D.C., to improve school options for minority children. Linda Chavez, a Hispanic woman who heads the Center for Equal Opportunity. State Rep. Clarice Navarro, a young Hispanic Republican from Pueblo. Vera Ortegon, a Hispanic woman elected by Colorado Republicans as their National Committeewoman for 2016. George Leing, an Asian-American man elected by Colorado Republicans as their National Committeeman for 2016 Casper Stockham, a black man nominated by Republicans to run for Congress in Colorado’s 1st Congressional District. An exhaustive list of young, female, religiously diverse minority scholars and politicos leading the Summit would be too long for inclusion here. We’ll suffice to say white men were scarce. They were a minority among conference speakers, but an overwhelming majority among those charging “racism.” Like other blacks and minorities leading the conference, Glenn said the “old-white-male” stereotype used against Republicans is bizarre. “I am proud to be part of the Republican Party, which elevates people on a basis of merit and not on a basis of race,” Glenn told The Gazette before his speech. “As a meritocracy, we are the young party of diversity. The protesters support a party of mostly old white people telling younger minorities they can’t survive without more government.”)

THE GUARDIAN
— Let’s make retirement great again – by bringing back a pension system  As Americans look to build their future on 401k plans, they find themselves perched atop nest eggs that are far too small – Suzanne McGee  (DIERSEN: In 1966, when I was 18 years old, when I started working part-time for the Park Forest Post Office, I began saving for my retirement by earning both Civil Service Retirement System and Social Security credits.  Of course, needless-to-say, my critics/opponents in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in Milton Township, and in DuPage County, and especially those who have financial problems, hate me for that.  My critics/opponents a) were never qualified for and/or b) considered themselves to be “too good” for the jobs that I had a) doing yard work, b) delivering newspapers, c) washing dishes, d) cleaning golf shoes, e) chipping slag, f) pumping gasoline, g) delivering mail, h) working on an automobile assembly line, i) working as a security guard, j) selling tires, automotive services, and major appliances, k) collecting delinquent taxes, and l) auditing federal agencies.  What do you say to my critics/opponents?)
https://www.theguardian.com/money/2016/jul/03/retirement-pensions-money
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Here’s a thought about how to make America great again: bring back pensions. If Donald Trump really is intent on turning back the clock to the glory days of an America before globalization knocked the stuffing out of the US manufacturing sector, why stop at trade? Part of what is making all but the wealthiest Americans feel so economically vulnerable today isn’t just that incomes have been eviscerated. It’s the fact that when we retire, those of us without pensions – a growing proportion, especially if we’re not public sector employees or union employees – are perched atop very, very tiny nest eggs. Last year’s report from the nonpartisan US government accountability office (GAO) reminded us of the perils. Half of all households headed by Americans 55 and older had no retirement savings at all. While some long-term savers may have retirement accounts with as much as $251,600, Fidelity reported that the average amount in a 401k – the replacements to pensions that companies began rolling out during the 1980s – was little more than a third of that amount.)

ABC7
— CHICAGO U.S. APPEALS JUDGE RICHARD POSNER SAYS HE’S SORRY FOR ANTI-CONSTITUTION RANT – Chuck Goudie and Barbara Markoff, Christine Tressel  (DIERSEN: In 1997, I argued a lawsuit before Judge Posner.  SEE: David J. Diersen v. Chicago Car Exchange, Inc., 110 F.3d 481 (7th Cir. 1997), cert. denied, 118 S.Ct. 178 (1997) (
http://caselaw.findlaw.com/us-7th-circuit/1385001.html) The lawsuit involved the Federal Odometer Act (FOA), the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) authority to grant exemptions from the FOA, and the sufficiency of material facts that would make a dealer suspicious of a car’s mileage.  On December 21, 1995, Judge Suzanne B. Conlon, United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division, granted the Chicago Car Exchange (CCE) summary judgment on the assumption that the exemption that DOT had granted sellers of old cars was valid.  I appealed that decision to the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit (Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin).  On September 16, 1996, I presented oral arguments to Chief Judge Posner and Circuit Court Judges Coffey and Kanne.  On March 31, 1997, the Appellate Court ruled that DOT’s exemption for old cars was invalid.  However, the Appellate Court also ruled that I had not presented sufficient material facts to convince a jury that CCE should have been suspicious of the car’s mileage. On May 13, 1997, the Appellate Court denied my motion for rehearing. On August 5, 1997, I filed a petition for writ of certiorari with the Supreme Court of the United States. On October 6, 1997, the Supreme Court denied my petition. The Appellate Court accepted my argument that DOT’s old car exemption was invalid because DOT did not have authority to grant such exemptions. However, subsequently, a) Congress and the Clinton Administration acquiesced to the wishes of the automobile and truck manufacturers and dealers and their lobbyists, amended the FOA, and gave DOT the exemption authority it lacked and b) DOT reissued all the exemptions that it had previously granted including exemptions for sellers of old cars and heavy trucks and for manufactures of cars and trucks. SUBURBAN LIFE
— Wheaton Park District to host Independence Day festivities (DIERSEN: Yesterday evening, the Illinois Republican Party notified the news media that Governor Bruce Rauner and Lieutenant Governor Evelyn Sanguinetti will walk in Wheaton’s Independence Day Parade.  Previously, the Wheaton Park District announced that U.S. Senator Mark Kirk; State Senator Mike Connelly and State Representative Jeanne Ives; State Representative Peter Breen; DuPage County Board candidate Tim Elliott, DuPage County Board member Amy Grant, and DuPage County Forest Preserve Commissioner Tim Whelan; and the Milton Township Republican Central Committee will be in the parade. For the 11th consecutive year, DuPage Republicans will help sponsor the parade. This year, they are a $2,500 Gold Celebration Partner for the fireworks and parade. 22 DuPage Republicans have pledged $2,500: $250 from Chris Nybo; $150 from Liam Brennan, Dave Diersen, and Phil Suess; and $100 each from Bob Berlin, Peter Breen, Fred Bucholz, Mike Connelly, Tim Elliott, Amy Grant, Jeanne Ives, Richard Jorgensen, Chris Kachiroubas, Mark Kirk, Brian Krajewski, Bob Lyon, Deanne Mazzochi, James Mendrick, Peter Roskam, Darlene Ruscitti, Tim Whelan, and Jim Zay. The DuPage County Republican contribution has been designated for the Tunes of Glory Pipes and Drums $1,000 entry, the Wheaton North High School Band $600 entry, and the Wheaton Warrenville South High School Band $600 entry. I have hand-delivered to Wheaton residences and businesses 500 flyers that promote the parade, Republican participation in the parade, and Republican sponsorship of the fireworks and parade.  Be sure and stop by the DuPage County Republican booth at the fireworks.)

WASHINGTON EXAMINER
— Red states more patriotic than blue states – DAVID WILKES  (DIERSEN: As the Democrat Party’s stranglehold on Illinois tightens, Illinois is ranked as the 46th most patriotic state, that is, the 5th least patriotic state.  In your precinct, in your municipality, in your township/ward, in your county, and in Illinois, which individuals, organizations, companies, and government entities take the lead in demonizing, denigrating, and condemning patriotism? Of course, needless-to-say, the aforesaid, their operatives, and their dupes take the lead in demonizing me, in denigrating me, and in condemning me.)
http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/report-red-states-more-patriotic-than-blue-states/article/2595462
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Fourth of July is this weekend, meaning barbecues, fireworks and patriotism will be in full force to celebrate. However, according to a report, some states are more patriotic than others.  The personal finance website, WalletHub, released its list of the most patriotic states, revealing that red states are more patriotic in their military and civic engagement than blue states. When combining military and civic engagement, Virginia takes the No. 1 spot as the most patriotic state, ranking No. 3 in military engagement and No. 6 in civic engagement. New Jersey came in last place overall. Alaska takes the lead in the military engagement category with the highest number of veterans at 100.8 per 1,000 residents. That’s two times higher than New York, with 45.5 people. “[Joining the military] seems more like a cultural thing than a true ‘patriotism’ thing,” said Steven Greene, associate professor of political science at North Carolina State University. He drew the stark contrast between those in rural areas, like Alaska, and the south, where military service is disproportionately more “revered and culturally engrained” than the north. However, Theresa Martinez, associate professor of sociology at the University of Utah, says the military is more of an economic incentive. “A means to move out of poverty.”  The first category of civic engagement is voter turnout, as most Americans tout voting as a patriotic endeavor. When voting in the 2012 presidential election, Minnesota took the gold with a 74 percent voter turnout rate, while Arizona took last place at 38 percent. Alison Dagnes, a professor of political science at Shippensburg University, wants to encourage running for elected office and volunteering to work for the country, not just in the military. She calls running for state office or U.S. Congress a “worthy pursuit” that all Americans should consider. Another aspect of civic engagement in the report is Peace Corps participation, which Vermont leads at 59 people per 100,000 residents, 21 times higher than last place Mississippi.)

WALLETHUB
— 2016’s Most Patriotic States – Richie Bernardo  (DIERSEN: As the Democrat Party’s stranglehold on Illinois tightens, Illinois is ranked as the 46th most patriotic state, that is, the 5th least patriotic state.  In your precinct, in your municipality, in your township/ward, in your county, and in Illinois, which individuals, organizations, companies, and government entities take the lead in demonizing, denigrating, and condemning patriotism? Of course, needless-to-say, the aforesaid, their operatives, and their dupes take the lead in demonizing me, in denigrating me, and in condemning me.)
https://wallethub.com/edu/most-patriotic-states/13680/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Expressions of American pride come in many forms — some as simple as Fourth of July fireworks, others as courageous as the sacrifice made by the men and women in our armed forces. The list goes on and on, from exercising one’s right to vote, buying American-made goods (especially apple pie) and even paying taxes. However, it appears that patriotism has been waning in recent years. While 38% of Americans said the U.S. was the best country in the world in 2011, that number fell to 28% in 2014. So one must wonder: What’s at the heart of our patriotic pouting, and where is this problem most pronounced? It’s clear that some states bleed more red, white and blue than others, so we set out to quantify these differences by examining 12 key metrics that collectively speak to issues such as military engagement, voting habits and civil-education requirements. The results, as well as expert commentary and a detailed methodology, can be found below.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Several decades in, and many thousands dead later, the feckless liberals at MSNBC had a pertinent question, following the Turkey airport attack Tuesday. “Is there a pattern to recent terror attacks?” the network asked on Twitter. Wow. Not even the goofy sit-in by congressional Democrats, or their calls for domestic gun control after Orlando, exposes the barren intellectual wasteland of modern liberalism quite like that moronic question from a national television network. “When Muslims show up chanting Allah, have bombs, guns, people die, my guess is there is a pattern,” one Twitter user responded. Led by the president of the United States — dogged in his determination to personally rehabilitate radical Islam by pretending it doesn’t exist, no matter how many innocent people have to die — American liberals have performed mental gymnastics to look past the blood and the carnage and the chants of “Allahu Akbar” and the repeated declarations of jihad and radical Islamic motivations. “It’s a hate crime!” they protest. “Americans hate gays!” “It’s guns!” As others have noted, it’s easier in the eyes of American liberals for a man to identify as a woman than for a Muslim radical to identify as a Muslim radical. The inanity of American liberals has gotten so bad that terror group al-Qaida has instructed its followers to only target the West’s majority whites — so their attacks in the name of Islam aren’t confused with “hate crimes” aimed at ethnicity or sexual orientation. Even the terrorists are tearing their hair out trying to get through to liberals. Far-left Bill Maher has stood nearly alone in Liberal-land, decrying what radical Muslims have done and are doing to women, gays and others whom American liberals usually protect and defend, but have not in the face of radical Islam. After the Paris attacks, Maher said he’s winning liberal audiences over to his point of view. “You have dared to challenge liberals to stand by their values,” a self-avowed liberal feminist Muslim woman told him. “I’m winning a lot of them over,” Maher replied. “It’s amazing how they used to boo me, and now they don’t.” He’s not winning quickly enough — nor is the U.S. in its fight against the jihadists and their ISIS safe haven in the rubble of Iraq and Syria. Secretary of State John Kerry absurdly tried to spin Tuesday’s Turkey attack, which killed over 40 and injured over 200 others. He tried to argue that the attack was a sign that ISIS is losing. Yes. And if we just restricted Americans’ access to guns, ISIS might really be on the run! As much as we endorse the power of positive thinking, it has to be based on reality. You have to live in the real world. You cannot bend spoons with your mind, and you cannot bend the world to your liking with the force of your will. American guns did not cause the attack in Istanbul. Neither did homophobia have anything to do with it. Will the bombs in Turkey wake anybody up? This willful ignorance would be laughable if it didn’t weren’t so doggone dangerous. You cannot defeat an enemy that you won’t even acknowledge exists. Say it with us: Radical. Islamic. Terrorism.)
