GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— Wheaton residents voice their concerns about Wheaton’s East Roosevelt Road Corridor Market Study/Comprehensive Plan Amendment – Dave Diersen

http://www.gopillinois.com

(THE ARTICLE: About 120 Wheaton residents attended a 2 1/2 hour Wheaton City Council Planning Session Tuesday evening, May 28, 2019. 28 of those 120 voiced their concerns about Wheaton’s East Roosevelt Road Corridor Market Study/Comprehensive Plan Amendment. 13 of those 28 are registered voters in my precinct. Most of the comments concerned the impact that proposed changes would have on homeowners immediately south and north of Roosevelt Road, traffic congestion, affordable housing, public housing, the proposed Starbucks at the southeast corner of Roosevelt Road and Warrenville Road, flooding, the school crossing at Warrenville Road and Park Avenue, protecting historic buildings on Roosevelt Road, and Wheaton not individually notifying homeowners immediately north and south of Roosevelt Road of the session. My precinct includes the south side of Roosevelt Road between Carlton and Main Streets. For more information on the market study and plan amendment, SEE: https://www.wheaton.il.us/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Agenda/_05282019-1184.

I included a link to the notice of the session in my May 26, 2019 GOPUSA ILLINOIS evening edition email (https://gopillinois.com/uncategorized/may-26-evening-edition-3/). I included link to an online petition against the market study and plan amendment (https://www.thepetitionsite.com/981/324/570/stop-the-roosevelt-road-corridor-redevelopment-plan/) in my May 23, 2019 GOPUSA ILLINOIS evening edition email (https://gopillinois.com/uncategorized/may-23-evening-edition-3/). I included my comment that “A Starbucks is planned for the southeast corner of Roosevelt Road and Warrenville Road in my precinct” in my March 10, 2019 GOPUSA ILLINOIS morning edition email (https://gopillinois.com/uncategorized/march-10-morning-edition-4/).

Sadly, many of those in my precinct who oppose the market study and plan amendment automatically assume that I completely support the market study and plan amendment a) because I am a conservative Republican Precinct Committeeman who supports Trump and b) because Ron Dell, the owner of the property at the southeast corner of Roosevelt and Warrenville, has allowed me to display 4X4 “Vote Republican’ signs on his building prior to elections for many years. Consequently, many of those in my precinct who oppose the market study and plan amendment have kept me “out of the loop” to put it politely. My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always discouraged voters in my precinct from reading my GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails.

I look forward to reading the minutes of the session and watching the video of the session when they are posted on the city’s website.)

That directly resulted in my accepting a job offer from IRS. What would Lipnic say about that? In 1997, when I was 49 years old, the Democrats who ran GAO forced me to take their early retirement “offer” a) because I had been an active member in a class action lawsuit since 1988 when I was 40 years old that charged them with reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation and b) because I had always complained about political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation. EUREKA TIMES STANDARD
— On ‘Seeking: digital natives’ – ANGELA COPELAND (DIERSEN: How long have you had your email address? I have had diersen@aol.com for more than 24 years, since January of 1995 when I was 46 years old. How long have you owned a computer system? I have owned a computer system since 1982 when I was 34 years old. While I worked for GAO during the 1990s, before GAO provided its staff with computer systems, I bought several computer systems and used them in my office. I published Milton Township Republican Central Committee’s (MTRCC) first website in 2000 and served as MTRCC’s webmaster 2000-2004 and 2008-2010. I published Milton Township’s first website in 2001 and served as its webmaster 2001-2003. I served as Illinois Center Right Coalition’s webmaster 2004-2006. I have been sending out GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails since 2000 and publishing copies of them at www.gopillinois.com since 2005. I have been on Facebook since January of 2009.)
https://www.times-standard.com/2019/05/26/career-corner-seeking-digital-natives/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: This term makes sense at first. But, the definition of a digital native, according to Dictionary.com, is “a person born or brought up during the age of digital technology and therefore familiar with computers and the internet from an early age.” Those who are turning forty this year probably started to use the internet around 1995, when they were sophomores in high school — if they were lucky. That was in the time of the dial-up modem and America Online. Their parents were ahead of the game to have a home computer then. In all likelihood, they really began to use computers when they went to college. It should be noted that I’m omitting early Mac computers and things like Atari for the purposes of this column. I’m talking about the real-deal internet. Digital natives had the internet in elementary school or middle school. Wikipedia says digital natives “are often used to describe the digital gap in terms of the ability of technological use among people born from 1980 onward and those born before.” By this definition, a digital native would be 38 years old or younger today. Let that soak in. A job description that specifically requests that someone is 38 years old or less. Why does this happen? I don’t have the answer for you. I’d like to know this myself. I thought that the idea of a job posting was to hire someone with a certain skillset rather than a certain age. I also heard this rumor that discriminating on the basis of age when hiring is not allowed. In fact, I think there may be something called the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.)

AMERICAN PROSPECT
— Pelosi Must Not Run Congress Like Trump Ran His Businesses Congress doesn’t have the resources right now to take on Trump, and Democrats aren’t fighting to acquire them. – DANIEL SCHUMAN (FROM THE ARTICLE: Congress is a shadow of itself. What this means in terms of personnel, for example, is House committee staff fell by one-third from 1994 to 2016, from 1,947 people to 1,298. Government Accountability Office staff fell by one-third, from 4,572 to 2,989.)
https://prospect.org/article/pelosi-must-not-run-congress-trump-ran-his-businesses
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A quarter-century ago, Newt Gingrich set out to destroy Congress as a force for progress, slashing the House’s funding by 14 percent and eviscerating its support agencies, like the Office of Technology Assessment, which drafted reports on emerging scientific and technological issues. In the last decade, House Republicans literally decimated funding for the House. Overall funding for the legislative branch is down by $370 million in constant dollars over the last decade alone, and funding for committees over that time has dropped by 22 percent—from $432 million to $329 million in constant dollars. Congress is a shadow of itself. What this means in terms of personnel, for example, is House committee staff fell by one-third from 1994 to 2016, from 1,947 people to 1,298. Government Accountability Office staff fell by one-third, from 4,572 to 2,989; and the Congressional Research Service fell by one-quarter, from 835 to 609. This is colloquially known as the lobotomization of Congress. The average expertise of and resources available to the rump of remaining staff have dropped precipitously, and few in power have any real experience governing. As if you couldn’t tell. To sum up, Congress is in no shape to take on Trump.)

— How the Rural-Urban Divide Became America’s Political Fault Line Such a conflict isn’t unique to the U.S., but the consequences are far-reaching here. – Emily Badger
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/21/upshot/america-political-divide-urban-rural.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In the United States, where a party’s voters live matters immensely. That’s because most representatives are elected from single-member districts where the candidate with the most votes wins, as opposed to a system of proportional representation, as some democracies have. Democrats tend to be concentrated in cities and Republicans to be more spread out across suburbs and rural areas. The distribution of all of the precincts in the 2016 election shows that while many tilt heavily Democratic, fewer lean as far in the other direction. As a result, Democrats have overwhelming power to elect representatives in a relatively small number of districts — whether for state house seats, the State Senate or Congress — while Republicans have at least enough power to elect representatives in a larger number of districts. Republicans, in short, are more efficiently distributed in a system that rewards spreading voters across space. . .The median congressional district in America looks ideologically more Republican, Mr. Rodden finds (the median precinct in the chart also voted slightly Republican). And so Democrats have to find a way to win in those places, even as the progressive wing of the party is ascendant and lobbying for control of the party’s message. If Democrats hold on to some suburbs they recently flipped — a possibility as suburbia diversifies and as college-educated whites move toward the Democrats — Republicans could one day be as concentrated in rural areas as Democrats have been in cities. In that situation, one where Republicans pack their votes more tightly in rural America and the median suburban district becomes slightly Democratic, the urban party might actually start to benefit from geographic polarization. But there will still always be the Senate.)

AMERICAN GREATNESS
— President Trump Can Win on Race – Karin McQuillan
https://amgreatness.com/2019/05/20/president-trump-can-win-on-race/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The good news for President Trump is that most Americans agree with Republicans about race: that we are all created equal and deserve equal treatment and opportunity. The problem is that far too many Americans believe the lie that Republicans, instead of adhering to these basic truths, are racist. President Trump has the courage to express our views on race. We can win on this issue. Democrats don’t want all citizens to be treated equally. Democrats want people treated differently and according to their skin color. They want group justice. They call it social justice because it sounds better. In their idea of a just America, whites, Asians, and Jews must give up opportunities as a group, and blacks and other people of color must be privileged with extra opportunities and reparations. By their definition, Democrats claim half the country is racist. Understand this: the Democratic Party’s idea of racism is defined by group identity, not by an individual’s behavior or beliefs. You’re not biased? Doesn’t matter. Utterly reject discrimination? Doesn’t matter. White? You’re racist. Democrats believe being colorblind is itself racist. Republicans, who believe laws should be colorblind, are by definition racist.)

https://www.dailyherald.com/business/20190518/how-much-money-do-you-need-to-be-wealthy-in-america
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Merely having a net worth of $1 million, it seems, doesn’t mean you’re wealthy. In Charles Schwab’s annual Modern Wealth Survey, the amount people said it took to be considered rich averaged out to $2.3 million. That, the company said, is “more than 20 times the actual median net worth of U.S. households.” It’s also a very slight drop from the $2.4 million average in the two previous iterations of the survey. The older one gets, the higher the bar goes, predictably. Among baby boomers (roughly age 55 to 73), the average net worth you need to be considered wealthy is $2.6 million, 35% higher than what millennials envision as the admission price to the plutocracy. For someone to be deemed merely financially comfortable, the required net worth shrinks significantly. The average amount was $1.1 million, and only Generation Z (about age 9 to age 22, though Schwab’s sample was 18 to 22) cited a number below $1 million ($909,600, to be exact.) The Schwab survey, which took a national sample of 1,000 Americans between the ages of 21 and 75, also revealed that the majority of Americans really crave real estate. More than 50% of respondents across generations said that if they got a $1 million windfall, they’d spend it, and the most popular purchase would be a place to live — particularly among millennials (roughly age 22 to 37).)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: A growing number of federal appeals courts are recognizing that nefarious employers are using subjective criteria to justify discriminatory hiring decisions. This has been an epic problem for decades in age discrimination litigation, where it is not unusual for workers with objectively superior qualifications to be passed over in favor of candidates who are deemed a better “cultural fit.” This month, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit joined four other federal circuits to rule that an employer may not defend a discrimination charge with “vague” and “slippery” reasons because of the “intolerable risk that a nefarious employer will use [them] as a cover for discrimination.” The court said employers must articulate “specific reasons” for employment decisions, such as “the candidate’s ‘seniority, length of service in the same position, personal characteristics, general education, technical training, experience in comparable work or any combination’ of such criteria.”)
