The “Sanctuary City Supportive Resources” website offers advice on how to access city resources and lists a number of participating advocacy groups for immigrants. Additionally, the city created the Chicago KeyCity program to help illegal immigrants assimilate into city life. KeyCity acts as a Chicago-specific identification card. According to the sanctuary city supportive resources website: “KeyCity is an optional, valid, government-issued ID card offered to all Chicago residents that will unlock many of the great things our City has to offer. The CityKey card is a photo identification card available to all Chicago residents which will not convey information about national origin or legal status. For many residents who do not have an identification card, CityKey can serve as an official government issued identification and can be used to access city services. Additionally, your CityKey can be used as a library card for Chicago Public Libraries, as well as a Ventra card. Presenting your CityKey at particular cultural institutions and local businesses can also give you a discount. Those scholarships extend to illegal-alien students, as well, allowing them the opportunity to study at two-year colleges for free. Chicago allows non-citizens to vote in school board elections. Chicago aggressively defends its sanctuary laws protecting criminal aliens. Emmanuel has continued to fight the Justice Department over federal funds withheld from Chicago because of their policies. Stop paying. Facing astronomical bills on real estate that’s now worthless at best, Ford Heights home and business owners have literally nothing to lose by ignoring them. Nearly 1,000 Ford Heights property tax bills totaling $2.3 million weren’t paid last year, according to an analysis of Cook County Treasurer records by South Cook News. That’s in a village of just 2,763 people, 987 households and 729 residential properties. More perspective: the village’s total 2017 budget was $1.8 million. The 996 Ford Heights properties with delinquent taxes will be up for public auction in May; willing buyers can take them off the owners’ hands by making good with Cook County on what’s in arrears. That none will both explains the strategy’s genius, and the tragedy it reveals. In Ford Heights, real estate equity has ceased to exist. The concept of “homeownership” has been explicitly, violently eviscerated in this community. And it’s hardly the only one. Effective Tax Rate: 48% The 20 most expensive properties in Ford Heights in 2017 amounted to $6.6 million in alleged, collective property value and $1.07 million in property taxes due, according to Cook County. An analysis by South Cook News found that 13 of those 20 bills have not been paid, totaling $737,630 of the $1.07 million. The non-payers have their reasons.)

Silicon Valley giants Facebook Inc., Twitter Inc. and Google’s YouTube unit have made a concerted push to seek out input from hundreds of groups, a growing number of which lean to the right. The companies have become receptive to behind-the-scenes lobbying as well. Among the initiatives, Facebook has privately sought advice from the Family Research Council, a conservative Christian public-policy group, and its president Tony Perkins, according to people familiar with those meetings. Twitter’s Chief Executive Jack Dorsey recently hosted dinners with conservatives, including Grover Norquist, the founder and president of Americans for Tax Reform, which advocates for lower taxes. Advisers on the left include the Southern Poverty Law Center, a civil-rights group that keeps a list of hate groups. For users frustrated by the lack of clarity around how these companies make decisions, the added voices have made matters even murkier. Meetings between companies and their unofficial advisers are rarely publicized, and some outside groups and individuals have to sign nondisclosure agreements. And in many cases, posts that are hateful to one group are considered fair game—or even uncomfortable truths—to others on the opposite end of the spectrum, opening a whole new arena to continue the political and ideological fights that are often a staple of social media.)
