— The 0.3%: Million-dollar earners in Illinois – SABRINA GASULLA (DIERSEN: How many of the 19,800 million-dollar earners in Illinois live in your county, in your township/ward, in your municipality, and in your precinct? If there are 300 or more households in your precinct, is one or more of them a million-dollar earner?)
http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20180420/ISSUE01/180429990/the-0-3-million-dollar-earners-in-illinois
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Only 1 in 300 Illinois households can brag they earn at least $1 million a year. Still, that ratio is higher than in neighboring states and on par with percentages in tax havens Florida and Texas. And in sheer numbers, Illinois has more million-dollar earners than ever.)

— Bustos Disagrees With Welfare-To-Work – Cole Lauterbach (DIERSEN: Are you able-bodied? Of course, because I am still able-bodied, Bustos, as well as all my critics/opponents, all their operatives, and all their dupes would support requiring abled-bodied federal retirees like me to work to qualify for Civil Service Retirement System pensions and for federal health, dental, and vision insurance subsidies. To prove that I still able-bodied, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes would stress that even though I am 69 years old, I continue to put GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails together and send them out each and every morning and each and every evening.)
http://altondailynews.com/news/details.cfm?clientid=17&id=263990#.Wt8oOMuKSM8
(FROM THE ARTICLE: As written, the provisions in the farm bill would expand state welfare-to-work programs already in place. It would require able-bodied adults without dependents under six years old to either work or enroll in job training programs for at least 20 hours per week to qualify for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP.)

PRAIRIE STATE WIRE
— Illinois House approves spending of $635K on three “lactation and wellness” rooms at State Capitol (DIERSEN: During the early 1990s, to help GAO a) hire, retain, and promote young women and b) to get rid of its employees who smoked (overwhelmingly old White men), GAO gutted the smoking room in its Chicago office and turned it into a lactation room.)
https://prairiestatewire.com/stories/511397874-illinois-house-approves-spending-of-635k-on-three-lactation-and-wellness-rooms-at-state-capitol
(FROM THE ARTICLE: “Lactation rooms should provide, at a minimum, a lockable door; a work surface and chair; a small utility-type sink; storage for cleaning supplies and paper towels; adequate HVAC service, including a thermostat; and well-placed electrical outlets,” according to the AIA. “Telephone service and network connections for the room are also recommended to increase worker safety and productivity. Accessibility guidelines should be met for all the features of the room.” AIA standards also dictate the coating used for the table work surface (“plastic laminate”), the size of the table (“20 inch deep by 30 inch wide”), the location of power outlets and other “useful accessories” that must be required, including “a trash can, a paper towel dispenser, a coat rack or coat hooks, a full-length mirror, a magazine rack, and a bulletin board.” The Illinois Capital Development Board, which would handle the lactation room construction, estimated the construction cost at $211,856 per room or $847.42 per square foot, provided the room were 250 square feet. The only ‘no’ vote was State Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton), who suggested the state should pay its $8.4 billion in unpaid bills before considering new projects like this one. The bill, House Bill 1042, now goes to the Illinois State Senate for approval. Last month, the Senate passed a resolution to approve the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), which would render female-only accommodations like a lactation room unconstitutional.)

ILLINOIS HOME PAGE
— Lawmakers push net neutrality at state level – Raquel Martin (DIERSEN: I should write a book about those who if they could have, they would have stopped me by now from sending out GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails. They are nasty rule-or-ruin types. They focus on destroying individuals, destroying organizations, destroying companies, destroying governments, and destroying countries that they cannot manipulate/dominate. According to them, the only news that is not fake is the news that they put out or bless. They blame me and my GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails for all of their problems, for all of your problems, for all of my problems, and for all of everyone’s problems. They blame me and my GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails for all the defeats that Republicans have suffered in Illinois since 2000.)
http://www.illinoishomepage.net/news/local-news/lawmakers-push-net-neutrality-at-state-level/1136892136
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Monday net neutrality rules expired nationwide but Williams is spearheading a plan to keep regulations in place in Illinois. She fears without it, internet providers will be able to charge higher rates and limit access. “Right now consumers can access the internet not as a luxury but as a necessity and when that’s something that you need for everyday life, if that’s for access to government services, to go to school or to do work for small business, we think that should be open for everyone.” Though the FCC okayed changes nationally, she’s taking control where she can. Under her proposal, providers who don’t abide by net neutrality rules can’t do business with the state.)

ILLINOIS CHURCH ACTION ON ALCOHOL & ADDICTION PROBLEMS
— Gambling Action Alert (DIERSEN: I just called my Senator Mike Connelly’s office and asked for him to not only vote NO on SB 3166 and SB 3452, but to also speak against those bills.)
http://ilcaaap.org/gambling-alert/
(FROM THE ALERT: Call your Senator to Vote NO on SB 3166, SB 3452 Senator Terry Link is sponsoring two bills to expand gambling. SB 3166 and SB 3452 are on 3rd reading and could be called for a vote at any time. SB 3166 allows licensed veterans establishments to operate video gambling machines in a municipality or unincorporated area of a county that has banned video gambling. The Video Gambling Act allows municipalities to “opt out” of video gambling. SB 3166 would open the door for video gambling in other liquor pouring establishments to “even the playing field”. Problem, Pathological Gambling Rates High Among Veterans: About 8% of U.S. veterans are problem gamblers, and an additional 2% are pathological gamblers, a study from the Department of Veterans Affairs reveals. People who have more posttraumatic symptoms, anxiety, and depression tend to have more gambling problems. “Read more SB 3452 legalizes Internet betting on horse racing 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from computers, smart phones, I-pads and tablets. The General Assembly approved a three-year Advanced Deposit Wagering “pilot program” in 2009. SB 3452 would extend Internet gambling on horse racing until 2022. SB 3452 will not save horse racing, but will make track owners and their ADW companies richer. For Immediate Action Call your State Senator TODAY and ask him/her to Vote NO on SB 3166 and SB 3452 -expansion of gambling. (Capitol Switchboard – 217-782-2000) Share this Alert with your faith community Forward to 10 others.)

ILLINOIS FAMILY INSTITUTE
— Queering Government Schools: Just Say No – Laurie Higgins (DIERSEN: Ever-increasingly, to send a child to a public school is to encourage that child to engage in LGBTQ activity. I should write a book about LGBTQ promoters in Wheaton and in Glen Ellyn who demonize, denigrate, and condemn my parents because they sent me to Trinity Lutheran Grade School in Crete 1953-1961 and then to Hope Lutheran Grade School in Park Forest 1961-1962 to stay with the Missouri Synod. They hint/imply/argue/shout that if had gone to a public grade school like they did, I would be promoting LGBTQ activity like they do.)
https://illinoisfamily.org/education/queering-government-schools-just-say-no/
https://illinoisfamily.org/podcast/podcast-queering-government-schools-just-say-no/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: For decades homosexual and “trans” activists have used schools to indoctrinate children with the disordered and destructive “LGBTQ” ideology. Thirteen years ago, the Journal of Gay & Lesbian Issues in Education published an article titled “Trans-Friendly Preschool” by now-ordained Rev. Laurel A. Dykstra, a “bisexual Christian activist” who has twins via a sperm donor. I wrote about her article for IFI in 2008—a decade ago. Here are some of Dykstra’s ideas for training up children in the way they should go:)

CAPITOL FAX
— Rauner’s new website slams Pritzker-Madigan “corruption” (DIERSEN: I have been the DuPage County Milton Township Precinct 9 Republican Committeeman since 1999. From I see, in my precinct, those who vote for Democrats do not care about Illinois’ financial problems or corruption, but they despise, if not hate, Trump and those who are Trump supporters, Protestant, conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, German American, draft avoiders, and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time.)
https://capitolfax.com/2018/04/24/rauners-new-website-slams-pritzker-madigan-corruption/
— Madigan and lone chairmanship “No” vote together on Joravsky’s show (FROM THE ARTICLE: I doubt we’ll ever see Rauner and Ives appear together on Dan Proft’s radio show.) (DIERSEN: QUESTION: If/when Rauner loses to Pritzker, who will the Democrats and Democrat plants, Libertarians and Libertarian plants, Greens and Green plants, and RINOs blame? ANSWER: Those who supported Ives in the primary. I supported Pat O’Malley in the 2002 Republican gubernatorial primary. I should write a book about those who continue to blame me, but not Dan Proft, for Jim Ryan’s defeat in the general election.)
https://capitolfax.com/2018/04/24/todays-must-listen-madigan-and-lone-chairmanship-no-vote-together-on-joravskys-show/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: House Speaker Michael Madigan was a guest on “The Ben Joravsky Show” radio program yesterday, which is odd in and of itself. The anti-machine Chicago Reader columnist ain’t exactly a member of the Madigan wing of the Democratic Party. But making this even more interesting, Madigan appeared on the show with Peter Janko, who was the lone vote against Madigan’s bid for party chairman yesterday. Everyone appeared to get along fine, partly because Madigan kept the focus on defeating Gov. Rauner. Madigan was also asked what he would say to Alaina Hampton if he could.)
— Madigan says he hasn’t made up his mind on legalizing marijuana (DIERSEN: Pot is poison. If you promote pot, you shout that you promote destruction. — Liberals Killed Equal Rights Amendment, Not ‘Religious Right’ – Bill Donohue
https://www.cnsnews.com/commentary/bill-donohue/liberals-killed-equal-rights-amendment-not-religious-right
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Times looks even more hypocritical when it says that while there are laws granting equal rights to women, “The E.R.A. would add an extra layer of legal protection for women—and men—against discrimination.” Yet when it comes to laws offering a new round of legal protection for the unborn, or for white men victimized by affirmative action, the same New York Times says we have enough laws on the books for them.)

NEW YORK TIMES
— Ronny Jackson, Trump’s V.A. Nominee, Faces Claims of Overprescription and Hostile Work Environment – Nicholas Fandos (DIERSEN: Have you worked in a hostile work environment? While I worked for GAO 1980-1997 in its Chicago office, the work environment became increasingly hostile for its employees who were Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/24/us/politics/ronny-jackson-veterans-affairs.html?emc=edit_na_20180424
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Senate Veterans Affairs Committee is examining allegations that President Trump’s nominee to lead the Veterans Affairs Department oversaw a hostile work environment as the White House physician and allowed the overprescribing of drugs, according to congressional officials briefed on the committee’s work. They have also received claims that Dr. Ronny L. Jackson drank too much on the job. The allegations, which have been under investigation since last week, forced the postponement of Dr. Jackson’s confirmation hearing, planned for this Wednesday as senators scrutinize the nominee’s time leading the White House medical staff. Officials familiar with the allegations against Dr. Jackson declined to offer precise details but said that they suggest a pattern of behavior, not just one or two isolated incidents.)
— ERA: A Rebuke to Trump, a Century in the Making – Editorial
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/19/opinion/a-rebuke-to-trump-a-century-in-the-making.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Then there’s the question of what the E.R.A. would do. Even the most die-hard proponents of the amendment acknowledge that it’s unlikely to radically advance women’s rights, at least in the short term. That’s because, for decades, many courts have applied the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment to sex discrimination, creating a body of case law that’s functioned as a sort of de facto E.R.A. As to whether the amendment could actually undo some programs that are beneficial to women, like sex-based affirmative action efforts, legal experts point to the fact that though the Constitution already protects the rights of people regardless of race, race-based affirmative action continues to exist. They also point to parts of the country that have state-level E.R.A.s and have not had such outcomes.)

WASHINGTON POST
— Shrinking workspaces – Eric Yoder (DIERSEN: Of course, my Democrat GAO superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinate were beyond furious when I got a preferred corner office instead of a cube when GAO moved into a new building in 1990. I would not have gotten that office if the GAO manager who had hired me in 1980 and had gotten me assigned to audits of IRS in 1986, had not promoted me to GS-13 in 1986. I would not have gotten a preferred office if my working for the Post Office for almost 3 years and for IRS for almost 9 years had not been counted for seniority purposes.)

My wife and I will, but with a far lower standard of living than if the Democrats who run the federal government had not wasted my career and forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old. My $51,864/year Civil Service Retirement System pension is only 41% of what my $125,325 salary was in 1997 in today’s dollars. https://www.wsj.com/articles/retirees-are-less-confident-about-having-enough-to-live-on-1524562200
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Other findings indicate that workers may be overestimating how long they will be able to remain on the job. While workers expect to retire at a median age of 65, retirees typically reported leaving the workforce at 62. While 79% of workers plan to work for pay in retirement, just 34% of retirees said they have actually done so. About 65% of American workers said they or a spouse have saved money for retirement. DAILY HERALD
— Madigan builds power from the ground up … and sometimes from the basement – Mick Dumke (DIERSEN: Is the polling place for your precinct “in the middle of” your precinct? The polling place for my precinct in not in my precinct, let alone in the middle of it.)
http://www.dailyherald.com/discuss/20180402/madigan-builds-power-from-the-ground-up
(FROM THE ARTICLE: But inside the precincts of Madigan’s district on Election Day, I had a clear look at how his political machine keeps churning along, and how it probably will for as long as he wants. The power of the most powerful politician in Illinois starts with his election operation and service delivery in his home ward. When I stepped into the basement polling place, I was greeted by an election judge who noted my surprise. “It’s not uncommon in our community,” she said. As I later learned, she was partly right. At one time, dozens of Chicago houses served as voting sites — as many as 150 in 1989, according to a Chicago Tribune article that year. Most were picked as polling places years or even decades earlier, when election officials favored locations in the middle of each precinct. That was also a time when the Democratic Machine had a tighter grip on the entire electoral process. The house on 68th Street has been used as a polling place since at least 2007, according to the available Chicago Board of Election records, but probably far longer. The owners didn’t respond to inquiries about it. By the primary this year, it was the only single-family house still used as a polling place in Chicago, records show.)

Yet companies that turn to labor recruiters like Ray Wiley tend to have an especially tough time: The jobs they offer are in out-of-way places; the work is low-paid and disagreeable; and native-born Americans, particularly white men, are generally not interested.)

While I worked for GAO 1980-1997, the last 11 years of which at GS-13 Step 1-10 levels, currently $96,403-$125,325, I increasingly worked as a referencer, that is, as a fact checker. That work required assuring the accuracy and support for each and every word, number, table, graph, chart, conclusion, opinion, and recommendation in GAO reports. — Ives Won’t Make Nice After Ugly Primary Battle, Refuses to Speak With Rauner “Why would she talk to him after the disrespect he showed last night?” a spokeswoman for Ives’ campaign asked in a Wednesday statement – Shelby Bremer (DIERSEN: Will Rauner offer to sign a contract with extremely stiff penalty clauses in which a) he would agree that political parties exist to help elect candidates who can and will defend and advance their platform and b) he would agree to defend and advance all the planks in the Illinois Republican Party platform? It could be called “A contract with Illinois Republicans.”)
https://www.nbcchicago.com/blogs/ward-room/rauner-ives-illinois-primary-election-477560013.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The race was ugly from the start and didn’t end much better, as the two candidates did not speak on election night nor the following day. A spokeswoman for Ives’ campaign confirmed Wednesday afternoon that she and Rauner had still not been in contact – and had no plans to speak in the future. “Why would she talk to him after the disrespect he showed last night announcing victory before all of the counties were in – without a call to the campaign, after he poured millions of dollars into an attack campaign that flat-out lied about her, and after he dispatched his slimy operatives to the media last night to disparage Ives, her campaign and all of her conservative supporters?” Ives’ spokeswoman Kathleen Murphy said in a statement. “She has no reason to believe or trust anything he says,” Murphy continued. Rauner emerged to deliver an election night victory speech on Tuesday before the race had been officially called in his favor. “I am honored and humbled by this victory,” Rauner said Tuesday night, claiming victory with a slim lead and even as voting machine problems delayed results from DuPage County – Ives’ home territory that she ultimately carried by four points. “You have given me the chance to win the battle against the corruption that plagues Illinois. Thank you,” Rauner continued, adding, “This primary election was hard fought, yes. I want to congratulate my opponent on her principled stand.” “For those of you around the state of Illinois who wanted to send me a message, let me be clear: I have heard you,” he said. Rauner initially dismissed Ives as a “fringe candidate” before pivoting to take her more seriously after she garnered the support of various conservative organizations, and even some of his former backers that sought to take down the first-term governor from the right.)

— Will Ives support Rauner in General Election? – Bill Cameron (DIERSEN: What do you say to those who want Rauner to run against those who voted for Ives, that is, to run as an anti-Republican big time? http://www.wlsam.com/2018/03/21/will-ives-support-rauner-in-general-election/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: So, where do Jeanne Ives supporters go in the November election Bill Cameron? On election eve, Jeanne Ives told me she’d support Bruce Rauner if he wins the primary. Ives: “Because obviously elections are always about choices and sometimes you have bad choices and worse choices. Every single Democrat would be a disaster for the State of Illinois. Cameron: “So, even though you think Rauner is bad, the Democrats are worse?” Ives: “Absolutely! They certainly are.” But on the morning after, Ives said she has no plans to pick up the phone and concede to Rauner. She said, “I really don’t care to say anything to the governor at this point, quite frankly.” Sounds like Rauner needs to move further to the right.)
— Rauner pledges to unite Republicans after defeating Ives in Republican primary – John Dempsey (DIERSEN: What do you say to those who want Rauner to run against those who voted for Ives, that is, to run as an anti-Republican big time? It seems like Rauner would never agree to defend or advance the traditional family, right to life, immigration, or many other planks in the Illinois Republican Party platform.)
http://www.wlsam.com/2018/03/21/rauner-pledges-to-unite-republicans-after-defeating-ives-in-republican-primary/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois Republican Governor Bruce Rauner is pledging to unite the fractured Republican party after winning his bitter primary battle with conservative State Representative Jeanne Ives. Rauner beat Ives by less than 20,000 votes, 51 to 48 percent, in a race that she started because of anger over Rauner’s decision to sign a law allowing for taxpayer funded abortions. Wednesday morning, Rauner told “The Big John and Ramblin’ Ray Show” on WLS that he will start a listening tour to get input from Illinois voters. “On the issues that have divided us, I want to find ways to bridge the divide. To come together, to come up with solutions that bridge the divide. We can do this, and we’ll work together in good faith.” Rauner will face Democrat J.B. Pritzker in November, after Pritzker defeated five challengers in the Democratic primary. Pritzker is expected to try and tie Rauner to the policies of Republican President Donald Trump, but Rauner, who has gone to great pains to distance himself from the President, told WLS that strategy won’t work. “People know that I’m my own person”, said Rauner. “I work with the Trump administration to help the people of Illinois just like I work with the Obama administration to help the people of Illinois. I am my own person. I make my own decisions. And all I care about is workin’ for the families of our state.” Pritzker was out early Wednesday morning thanking voters at the 95th Street Red Line stop on the South Side. He told reporters Rauner has had his chance to govern the state, and has failed. “Illinois has an important job in the next eight months and that’s to decide which direction it wants to go”, said Pritzker. “Down the road of the failed policies of Bruce Rauner, or on the road toward recovery and job creation and lowering the cost of health care, and making sure that every child gets a quality education. That’s what this campaign is gonna be all about and we’re gonna make sure people know it.” However Rauner told WLS that Pritzker has connections to what he says is corruption in the state Democratic party. “Pritzker is part of the machine. He’s part of the corruption in Illinois, he’s a tax dodger, a tax cheat, he tried to buy the Senate seat from Blagojevich, the truth is comin’ out on Pritzker and when the truth is known for the people of Illinois, they’ll choose Rauner and Sanguinetti, and they’ll choose reform so we can have a better future.”)

— Tuesday’s vote forecasts bleak November for Rauner – John Kass
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/columnists/kass/ct-met-kass-bleak-rauner-november-20180321-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: It was Rauner who invited a primary challenge by playing social justice warrior of the left, signing a bill that put taxpayers on the hook for paying for abortions, and also signing sanctuary state legislation. Ives took the challenge, and that she came so close so quickly and with little statewide name recognition and nothing like his bankroll is a testament not only to her own message but of Rauner’s low standing among the grass-roots GOP. Democrats know this, and the bosses salivate in anticipation of November. So if Rauner has charted out a way forward to mend the intra-party rifts in the hopes of stopping Pritzker, it hasn’t been articulated. And burning Boss Madigan in rhetorical effigy day after day just won’t cut it. Ives understands the problems are about more than allegiance. “In the state of Illinois, we do not have Republican or Democrat problems,” Ives said in her concession speech. “No, we have a math problem. … “You can’t just spend yourself into oblivion, piling up millions of dollars in debt, while hundreds of thousands of people flee the state of Illinois, and think that things are going to get better the next day,” Ives said. “It’s got to stop.” But it won’t stop, not anytime soon, not with a divided Illinois Republican Party, and not with Pritzker funding the Democrats who are moving farther and farther to the left.)

— Cronin: Changes coming after DuPage Election Commission’s ‘inept’ performance – Robert Sanchez
http://www.dailyherald.com/news/20180321/cronin-changes-coming-after-dupage-election-commissions-inept-performance–
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Cronin said he wants commission officials to attend next week’s county board meeting to answer questions about what happened. “We will make an effort to discover all the facts,” Cronin said, but someone must be held responsible. “I promise you, there’s going to be changes,” he said. “I am done with this.” Cronin said he also will continue pushing for a state law change to merge the election commission with the county clerk’s office. He has supported that concept for years, but the legislature has been reluctant to give the county permission to do it. “I look forward to the day the election commission is under the auspices of the clerk’s office,” Cronin said. “There will be accountability, better responsiveness and better professionalism — I am certain of that.” On Wednesday, election commission officials said the problem with the optical scan voting machines was caused by so-called “ender cards”– similar to paper ballots — that are needed to close the machines and tabulate results. It turns out the ender cards the commission purchased from Liberty Systems couldn’t be run through the machines. “The paper stock used by the vendor for this election was not to specification and didn’t fit through the scanner,” said Joseph Sobecki, the commission’s executive director. “That resulted in none of the locations being able to close the optical scan.” The problem didn’t affect touch-screen voting machines, but most DuPage voters use optical scan paper ballots. Once the problem was discovered, Sobecki said officials decided to bring the optical scan voting machines from every polling place to Wheaton so they could go through the closing procedure. Cronin blasted that decision. “If the cards fail, you should have a system in place to respond to that,” he said. “This notion that you are going to physically transport every one of these machines from all of the polling places and have them wait in line out in the driveways of the county complex … is just stunning to me in its level of incompetence.” Sobecki said the first machines arrived around 8:45 p.m. Meanwhile, Cronin said he was getting calls from numerous campaigns wondering where their votes were. . .The commission said “rigorous” testing was done before the election, but Zay said he doesn’t believe it. “If they tested it, it would have worked,” he said. “The problem is they have their own separate board,” Zay said, referring to the three-person panel that oversees the commission. “Maybe that board needs to go.” The three members of the bipartisan DuPage Board of Election Commissioners are appointed by Cronin. Republicans hold two of the three seats. Cronin acknowledged that election commissioners should bear responsibility. “I think there is a enough blame to go around over there,” he said. “The whole operation needs to be re-examined from top to bottom as we dissolve it.”)

He says the future of the party is at stake if Republicans don’t come together and beat Pritzker in the fall. He’s got about eight months to work on that. According to the numbers, Pritzker’s got a huge advantage, but this is just day one. The GOP chair says the division is common during primary season, but they always bounce back. Wednesday afternoon, Ives’ supporter, conservative Representative Peter Breen jumped ship after months of harsh criticism for the governor. He announced he’s standing behind Rauner once again to fight “the Madigan machine.” He released a statement: “The governor is our party nominee and I support him 100 percent.”)

She had an MBA from the University of Chicago and had passed the CPA examination on her first attempt. (FROM THE ARTICLE: Davis said he asked his female staffers what they thought should be addressed by the committee that manages the House as a workplace. They worried that fewer women would be hired as a result of the scandal. Davis brought that up during the hearing. He said it would be wrong, but that it worried his female staff and the committee should address those worries. Enter Twitter. The Huffington Post’s Washington Bureau Chief tweeted the following: “Rep. Rodney Davis (R-IL) says he’s worried congressional offices will hire fewer women to avoid issue of sexual harassment.” She then clarified: “For the record, Davis is not saying he will do this. He said he had female staffers who were concerned about this. That’s why he asked what to do about it.” But it was too late. The twitterverse already was exploding with charges of sexism, misogyny, discrimination and questions about Davis’s parentage. Davis said he walked out of the hearing past the major media reporters and no one asked him anything. I never thought I’d see the day a Republican would vote to raise taxes, but Shimkus voted for the GOP bill that eliminates many of the deductions that we in the middle class use — all to cut taxes for corporations that ship our jobs overseas. The GOP bill explodes our deficit by $2 trillion, and they plan to pay for that by cutting our Medicare and Social Security. — According to a 9:37 AM Saturday, October 28, 217 bulk email from Martin Keller, the Milton Township Republican Central Committee Chairman, “Jeanne is running!! In the next day or so she will be sending out her petitions to be on the ballot in the March 2018 Republican Primary. As soon as more information is available we will get it to you. Start thinking about friends and family around the state who can help her get the required number of signatures.” According to an extremely reliable source, former state representative Rich Morthland is her running mate.  At the October 11, 2017 Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) meeting, Ives said MTRCC members would be the first to know if she decides to run for Governor. – Dave Diersen

http://illinoisreview.typepad.com/illinoisreview/2017/10/rauners-campaign-war-chest-doubles-size-of-democrat-hopefuls.htm
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois Campaign for Political Reform shows Republican Bruce Rauner has raised campaign funds at more than twice the amount of his most well-funded Democrat hopeful J.B. Pritzker has raised. But even more stunning is that Rauner shows $65 million on hand while Pritzker shows only $7 million on hand. Will those numbers intimidate anyone from the conservative majority of the IL GOP from giving a serious challenge to the incumbent governor? Time is running out to circulate petitions.)

PC’s are elected officials and are vital to their fellow candidates running for Public Office. Elected PC’s serve a two year term and make up the Central Committee of the County Party and vote on all major decisions. The DuPage Elections Committee describes the role of PC as follows: The grass roots and foundation of the political parties are its precinct committeemen. They serve as the foot soldiers to the most fundamental political unit of government, the precinct. The precinct committeeman helps shape party policy and participates in the selection process of candidates. A precinct committeeman is elected to a two-year term in the even-year primary elections. In our PC orientation, we cover exactly how you can *Represent the party’s voters at the county central committee convention to elect the county central chairman and its officers. The precinct committeeman casts a total number of party votes, (weighted vote), as cast in the precinct at the recent primary election *Become a voter registrar and register all qualified constituents *Appoint and fill vacancies of election judges for the precinct polling place *Provide candidate and election information to the voters *Circulate petitions for candidates prior to the primary election *Become familiar with the elected officials and legislatures so the concerns of the voters can be passed on to them. *Attend and become involved in the party’s Township meetings in one of the nine townships in which you live)

DAILY HERALD
— Suburban GOP upset enough with abortion bill to find challenger to Rauner?  Wheaton’s Ives ‘flattered’ at buzz for a possible candidacy – Susan Sarkauskas
http://www.dailyherald.com/news/20170929/suburban-gop-upset-enough-with-abortion-bill-to-find-challenger-to-rauner
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Wheaton Republican state Rep. Jeannie Ives said Friday she is flattered by all the talk about whether she will run against incumbent Gov. Bruce Rauner in the March primary. Especially after Rauner signed a law Thursday to have Medicaid pay for abortions, he is “unelectable as a Republican,” she said. . .Ives’ name is being thrown about on radio, social media and print as a strong primary challenger to Rauner who would draw support from outraged social conservatives. “That’s very flattering … but there’s been no decision on my part,” Ives said. She was one of many Republican legislators who publicly campaigned for Rauner’s “Turnaround Agenda,” which dealt with money-related matters such as workers’ compensation and pensions. But she called Thursday’s decision on abortion “egregious” and “very extreme.” “Everybody I talk to is disavowing him. … This is a bridge too far for most Republicans,” she said. Lt. Gov. Evelyn Sanguinetti of Wheaton released a statement disagreeing with Rauner but also saying she would continue to work with him to accomplish other goals. State Sen. Jim Oberweis, also a fan of the Turnaround Agenda, said Rauner should have vetoed the bill on cost alone, saying the state is in “deep financial stress” and can’t afford new spending. He is also disappointed with Rauner’s recent actions concerning treatment of undocumented immigrants. But, he said, he knew Rauner was not a social conservative. “I respect the man. I think he has done a great job in standing up to Michael Madigan,” Oberweis said. Party unity? Schneider said the party must focus on beating the Democrats. “We need a check on the Democrats in Springfield,” said Pat Brady of St. Charles, former leader of the state Republican Party and a Rauner supporter. He doesn’t see a viable challenger to Rauner, especially since he has a huge campaign fund and a month of signature-collecting under his belt. Gubernatorial candidates need a minimum of 5,000 signatures on their petitions, which are due Dec. 4. “I think the reality is nobody could beat him in a primary,” Brady said. “The political reality in this state is there are a substantial amount of voters in Cook and the collar counties” that are abortion rights supporters, Brady said. “He took a real strong talking point away from the Democrats.” Ives disagrees. “Money isn’t everything. The grass-roots (Republicans) are very upset. I’m not sure Rauner’s re-electable. “Maybe if he switched parties he might be able to run as a Democrat.”)

http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20170929/BLOGS02/170929845/abortion-decision-may-spark-challenge-from-gov-rauners-right
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In a phone interview, state Rep. Jeanne Ives, a social and economic conservative and West Point graduate from Wheaton, said she’s concluded that Rauner “cannot be elected next year.” “It’s his decision whether or not to run. If he does, I hope we’d put up a primary opponent against him, because I won’t be supporting him,” Ives continued. Asked who that might be, Ives replied, “That’s an open question.” When I said that sounds like she’s interested, she answered, “I’ve not ruled it out,” noting not only Rauner’s “flip flop” on the abortion bill but also his earlier decision to sign bills boosting funding for Chicago Public Schools and directing law enforcement officials not to cooperate with federal immigration agents in many cases involving those in the country illegally.)

July 17 Morning Edition

CAPITOL FAX
—  Haevers leaves – Rodriguez leaves *** Mahoney is latest top Rauner administration official to resign (DIERSEN: In Illinois, in DuPage County, in Milton Township, in Glen Ellyn, and in Wheaton, when there is news of interest to Illinois Republicans, routinely, Democrat plants, Libertarian plants, Green plants, and RINOs first give that news to the Democrat news media, and especially to Rich Miller. Democrat plants, Libertarian plants, Green plants, and RINOs do not want Illinois Republicans to first learn of anything by reading GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails. Further, when there is news of actions taken by the DuPage County Election Commission (DCEC) that might adversely affect elected DuPage County Republican Precinct Committeemen, Democrats and Democrat plants, Libertarians and Libertarian plants, Greens and Green plants, and RINOs certainly do not want me to know about it. They know that if I was given the names and contact information of those elected DuPage County Republican Precinct Committeemen who are affected by DCEC’s proposed precinct line changes, I would immediately notify them.  Just kidding, but not completely, I ask should I consider forming a “DuPage County Elected Republican Precinct Committeeman Association.” What about politicians who want precinct lines to be changed a) to reward those who pander to them and b) punish those who do not pander to them?)
https://capitolfax.com/2017/07/17/mahoney-is-latest-top-rauner-administration-official-to-resign/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Mike Mahoney, the governor’s Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Legislative Affairs, resigned this morning. I’m told the parting was amicable Here’s Sneed from last week… “The big question: Will Mike Mahoney, the governor’s policy chief, be told to leave? “Mike was the guy who kept the troops together, but the expectation is that there is a lot more to come in the cleaning house department,” a Rauner source said.” It almost goes without saying that this is yet another big loss for the administration. Mahoney was a key player and both House Republican Leader Jim Durkin and Senate GOP Leader Bill Brady reportedly asked the governor to do what he could to keep Mahoney on the payroll. In the end, however, he really had no choice but to leave. I’m told that more resignations are expected as early as today, so stay tuned.  Sources close to the governor’s office confirm that the governor’s Deputy Chief of Staff for Public Engagement Phil Rodriguez has also resigned. Rodriguez worked for Comptrollers Topinka and Munger and ran both of their campaigns. He’s moving over to the Tollway.  The governor’s body man, Kyle Haevers, has been told his services were no longer needed and was asked to find an agency to move to. His replacement is Ben Tracy, who has already begun traveling with the governor. Kyle was a loyal Raunerite and has been part of Rauner World since 2014 and helped on the Rep. McAuliffe race last fall.)

WALL STREET JOURNAL
— La Raza Finally Loses ‘the Race’  The leftist Chicano outfit rebrands itself as UnidosUS. – Mike Gonzalez  (DIERSEN: To support La Raza, or now UnidosUS, is to shout that you are anti-Trump, anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, anti-German Americans, anti-draft avoiders (except Bill Clinton), and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America longer than your ancestors.)
https://www.wsj.com/articles/la-raza-finally-loses-the-race-1500229809
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Since its inception in 1968, made possible in part by a grant from the Ford Foundation, La Raza has been far more dependent on boardrooms and government than grass-roots support. But with government largess drying up, the liberal political-advocacy group may find itself needing greater support from the rank and file. This won’t be easy. The nation’s “Hispanics” are undergoing a radical shift that most politicians are missing: A white majority is likely to persist in America. “Many children growing up today in mixed families are integrating into a still largely white mainstream society,” sociologist Richard Alba noted in American Prospect last year. These children are “likely to think of themselves as part of that mainstream, rather than as minorities excluded from it.” The name La Raza—“the race” in Spanish—flies in the face of this reality. It is off-putting to many “Hispanics,” an artificial Census category comprising many razas. The organization’s CEO, Janet Murguia, admitted as much in a video announcing the name change: “We must make sure that our name and our organization evolves along with and remains relevant to our ever changing Hispanic community.” Appealing to a broader swath of this diverse group is necessary now that the “fat years” under President Obama are gone. The Obama Justice Department made a practice of settling lawsuits against corporate defendants by requiring they make large donations to groups like La Raza. It was, in the words of House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, “a scheme to funnel money to politically favored special interest groups.” In a letter sent to Attorney General Loretta Lynch in the closing days of the Obama administration, Mr. Goodlatte noted that “in just the last two years, DOJ has directed nearly $1 billion to activist groups, entirely outside of Congress’s spending and oversight authority.” Taxpayer money was flowing into La Raza coffers too. When Cecilia Munoz, a top La Raza lobbyist, joined Mr. Obama’s Domestic Policy Council, federal subsidies for La Raza went from $4.1 million to $11 million a year. And La Raza loyally promoted Mr. Obama’s policies as pro-Latino. You can expect the group to continue agitating on behalf of the Democratic Party. Whether UnidosUS becomes more grass-roots-driven than La Raza remains to be seen. The group’s corporate board of advisers still includes Comcast , AT&T , Bank of America , Chevron , Coca-Cola , Ford, Con-Agra Foods and other Fortune 500 firms. Its more than 260 local affiliates train and mobilize an activist core of community organizers but have only a third of the vote on the board. This week’s name change may be a recognition of an imperfect model. Or it may be nothing more than a marketing ploy. The latter is more likely.)

— South Carolina May Prove a Microcosm of U.S. Election Hacking Efforts  There were nearly 150,000 attempts to penetrate the voter-registration system on Election Day 2016, State Election Commission says – Alexa Corse  (DIERSEN: How many attempts have been to hack your election commission?  How many of those hacks were successful?  According to the DuPage County Election Commission (DCEC), only 137 in my precinct voted for Trump, but 211 voted for Clinton.  That is inconsistent with the precinct’s voting history. I am considering asking the DCEC to allow me to look at the actual ballots to verify the 137 and 211 numbers.)

— Illinois taxpayers foot the bill for legislators — even after they retire – Roger Kempa, Darien  (DIERSEN: In my defense, my $50,856 Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) pension is only 41% of my ending GS-13 Step 10 salary of $122,991 in today’s dollars. The federal government subsidizes $17,288 (75%) of my and my wife’s health, dental, and vision insurance, but we have to pay $5,763 (25%). My Social Security is only $2,028 because I get a CSRS pension. Federal COLAs are far less than inflation.  My CSRS pension has been, is, and will forever be dramatically reduced because my Democrat superiors in the federal government wasted my career. My Democrat GAO superiors forced me to take their early retirement offer in 1997 when I was 49 years old, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, did not promote me beyond GS-13, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take an $18,847 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/letters/ct-illinois-taxpayers-legislators-retire-pension-radogno-20170711-story.html
(FROM THE LETTER: This is in response to a Monday letter to the editor “Farewell, Sen. Radogno.” Former state Sen. Christine Radogno will be with the taxpayers of Illinois for many decades to come. She can expect to receive pension payments totaling more than $2.3 million during her retirement. Her final salary of more than $95,000 results in an estimated first-year pension of more than $81,000. That payment increases by 3 percent annually, thanks to the ill-conceived General Assembly Retirement System. Dozens of Illinois legislators have said “no” to their pensions. Radogno said “yes,” as if it were an entitlement. Folks retiring on their Social Security pension are much less fortunate. Someone retiring at age 65 would receive only around $35,340 per year, or 37.2 percent of a $95,000 salary (if he or she is married) or otherwise $23,621 per year, which is 24.9 percent of a $95,000 salary. Meanwhile, Radogno’s first-year estimated pension represents 85.3 percent of her salary. Retired Illinois legislators with four or more years of service have their insurance for health care, prescriptions and vision care subsidized. Generous Illinois taxpayers foot the bill for those benefits and their annual pensions! And none of those pensions are subject to Illinois taxation. Illinois taxpayers will be watching Radogno’s replacement. He or she should start by setting a good example: refusing a taxpayer-paid GARS pension and insurance for health care, prescriptions and vision care. Since all folks receiving a pension in Illinois are not subject to Illinois income tax, an income cap needs to be established, say $60,000 as an example. Anything above that cap would be taxed. It is a matter of fairness, and equity, toward paying the $5 billion, 32 percent income tax increase. How about it Illinois state legislators?)

(FROM THE LETTER: I am very disappointed in the article by Marie Wilson alleging the Township Road District merger between Naperville Township and Lisle Township is proving difficult. As a former candidate for Township Trustee I am pretty familiar with the course of events leading up to the referendum. What Marie fails to mention (and it is critically important) is that the initial proposal by the Township and City of Naperville was to have Naperville’s street department take over the Township roads. That would have been the optimum deal and saved the most money. However, the vested interest (Republicans, no less) rose up to stop the loss of their generous pay and benefits. It was only after the Township Supervisor, at that time, cut their budget and forced the road district to strike a deal with Lisle Township. For the new regime at the Naperville Township Road District to cry it’s too difficult to effect the merger is disingenuous at best. They are simply angling to restore their overly generous pay and benefits; and the article by Marie Wilson plays right into their hands.)

ILLINOIS REVIEW
— THORNER: SCHLAFLY’S MOST POWERFUL OFFICE IN THE WORLD (PRECINCT COMMITTEEMAN)  (DIERSEN: If you want to help elect candidates who can and will defend and advance the Republican Party platform and the Illinois Republican Party platform, please become a Republican Precinct Committeeman/Captain. I have been the Republican Committeeman for DuPage County Milton Township Precinct 9 since 1999.)
http://illinoisreview.typepad.com/illinoisreview/2017/07/thorner-schlaflys-most-powerful-office-in-the-world.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Donald Trump is the most powerful man in the world, so technically, the U.S. Presidency is the “Most Powerful Office in the World.”  But what if you were told of another public office that (ultimately) chooses who will be President and virtually every other elected official in the U. S.?  If that were true, wouldn’t that office (ultimately) be the “Most Powerful Office in the World”? Conservatives take pride in their knowledge of the Constitution and the outward forms of American Government. Many can quote the Founding Fathers, such as, “The least governed are the best governed” (Jefferson) and “Government is like fire, a useful servant but a deadly master” (George Washington), etc., but the bottom line is, many conservatives know next to nothing about the real system of American government, which isn’t the fairy tale that has been taught in school and colleges over the past few decades. If you are tired of seeing things continue to go down the drain, it is essential that you understand how liberals dominate our government.  Madigan’s budget deal was the straw that broke camel’s back for many conservatives. What might be done to salvage Illinois after ten Republicans joined Madigan and 60 other Democrats in voting for a permanent, 32 percent income tax increase and 33 percent corporate tax hike, when Illinois residents already shoulder the heaviest local and state tax burden in the country? Irresponsible is that a three-fifths majority of state lawmakers, including Republicans, sold out their constituencies to reward the special interest groups (public employee unions, trial lawyers and other political insiders) that have been paying to keep them in office for decades. Understanding the seven laws of American government, set forth in an essay by Phyllis Schlafly in the early 90’s — The Most Powerful Office in The World Is NOT The President of the United States! — is essential to change Illinois from a failed state to one that will live up to its potential, where people feel proud to live and work and where businesses can grow and prosper.  The lack of good people at the grass roots is why we get so many bad apples that call themselves “Republicans”. E-mail Andy Schlafly to order copies of Phyllis Schlafly’s article. Phyllis Schlafly (August 15, 1924 – September 5, 2016) was a founding member of the modern conservative movement. She was described by the New York Times as the “one of the most relentless and accomplished platform debaters of any gender to be found on any side of any issue.”  Following are excerpts from Phyllis’ article, which is as powerful today as it was back in the early 90’s: . . . Therefore, Precinct Committeeman is the most powerful office in the world because Precinct Committeemen determine who gets the chance to be elected to office at every level of government. Remember, if your candidate is not on the ballot, he will not be elected.)

This year, for the 12th year in a row, “DuPage Republicans” helped sponsor the parade and fireworks. “DuPage Republicans” was one of the two $2,500 “Star” sponsors and again sponsored the Wheaton high school bands and the Tunes of Glory Pipes and Drums parade entries. Because of a last minute shortage of banner carriers, I had the honor of helping carry the “Sponsored by DuPage Republicans” banner ahead of the Tunes of Glory Pipes and Drums. Outstandingly, again this year Tim Whelan coordinated Republican use of the “DuPage Republicans” booth at the fireworks. This year again, I delivered flyers to the residences and businesses on the parade route. The flyers listed the Republican entries in the parade and the Republicans who helped sponsor entries. Outstandingly, the flyers were printed courtesy of Alpha Graphics. This year, outstandingly, Roger Claar is a $500 contributor, Chris Nybo is a $250 contributor, Phil Suess is a $150 contributor, and Bob Berlin, Peter Breen, Mike Connelly, Grant Eckhoff, Tim Elliott, Amy Grant, Gwen Henry, Paul Hinds, Jeanne Ives, Marty Keller, Deanne Mazzochi, Paula McGowen, James Mendrick, Peter Roskam, Darlene Ruscitti, and Tim Whelan are $100 contributors. Please thank them for helping sponsor the parade and fireworks. This year was the 10th anniversary of an elephant walking behind Roskam in the parade.  For that 2007 parade, I had the honor of raising $2,000 on short notice from DuPage Republicans to sponsor that elephant.)
