CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Lean in, homebuyers: Survey says lenders loosening mortgage standards – Kenneth R. Harney (DIERSEN: What factors helped you get mortgages? For me, in 1972, 1974, and 1976, they included my having worked for IRS since 1971, my working part-time for Firestone Stores through the end of 1972, and my getting promoted to GS-9 (currently $54,864) in 1972, GS-11 (currently $66,379) in 1973, and GS-12 (currently $79,563) in 1974. For my wife and I, in 1978 and 1984, they include my wife having saved $20,000 for a down payment in 1978, her having worked for the U.S. League of Savings Institutions since 1970, and my having worked for IRS 1971-1980 and for GAO since 1980.)

— McDonald’s U.S. president says downtown headquarters will create ‘different level of energy’ – Greg Trotter (DIERSEN: Beyond tragically, the city that McDonald’s is moving to is overwhelmingly anti-Trump, anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-patriotic, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, anti-German Americans, and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America longer than their ancestors.)

— Michael Flynn grew up breaking the rules. It caught up to him as Trump’s national security advisor – Chris Megerian (DIERSEN: What “rules” have you broken? I have broken the following “rule:” Always find out who has the most religious, government, political, and/or financial clout and then glorify and praise them, pander to them, serve as their operative or dupe, and give them lots of money.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/ct-la-michael-flynn-profile-20171201-story.html

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/zorn/ct-perspec-zorn-silverstein-rotheimer-harassment-1203-20171201-story.html
— Sheriff Tom Dart’s personnel board halts firings, suspensions amid legal questions – Steve Schmadeke (DIERSEN: It would have been great if more Republicans had come to my defense a) when my Democrat GAO superiors forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, did not promote me beyond GS-13, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take an $18,847 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980; b) when my Democrat IRS superiors did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974; and c) when my Democrat Post Office superiors forced me resign in 1969 and disallowed my sick leave requests in 1969 and 1968. It would have been great if more Republicans had come to my defense when my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes ended a) my TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois chairmanship in 2012, b) my Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee membership in 2011, c) my Milton Township Republican Central Committee webmaster service in 2010 and 2004, d) my Illinois Center Right Coalition Steering Committee membership in 2007, and d) my American Association of Political Consultants Midwest Chapter board membership in 2004. But my critics/opponents have lots of religious, government, political, and/or financial clout in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in Milton Township, in DuPage County, and in Illinois and they have made it very clear that they will have their vicious operatives and their vicious dupes viciously destroy any individual, any organization, any company, and any government that might come to my defense.)

— Will County economy has ‘amazing’ growth, official says – Susan DeMar Lafferty (DIERSEN: I lived in Will County 1948-1976 – in Crete 1948-1972 and in University Park 1972-1976. My ancestors on my father’s side have lived Crete since 1854. My brother continues to live in Crete in a home that my grandfather had built in 1926 on land that my great great grandfather bought in 1864.)

SPRINGFIELD STATE JOURNAL REGISTER & PEORIA JOURNAL STAR
— Taxes the key issue, Rauner says – Doug Finke (DIERSEN: Who do your critics/opponents want to pay more taxes? My critics/opponents want members of the following groups to pay more taxes: homeowners, those who have major medical expenses, those who take job-related graduate courses, Trump supporter, Protestant, conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owner, German American, and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time. My critics/opponents are beyond furious that I have paid less federal income tax since 1972 because I have always itemized my deductions each year. I would have paid more federal income tax a) if I had not bought a new town home in 1972, a studio condo in 1974, and a one bedroom condo in 1976, b) if my wife and I had not bought a home in 1978 and had one built in 1984, c) if we had not had major medical expenses in recent years, and d) if I had not taken job-related graduate courses 1972-1983 and 1992-1997. They are beyond furious that my Civil Service Retirement System pension and my Social Security are not subject to state income tax.)

SPRINGFIELD STATE JOURNAL REGISTER
— Springfield diocese synod approves tithing – Steven Spearie (DIERSEN: How much money do you give to churches? My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes a) glorify and praise themselves for being a member of a church, for attending church services, and for giving lots of money to a church and b) demonize, denigrate, and condemn me because I am not a member of any church, because I do not attend church services, and because I do not give money to a church. Some of the operatives and the dupes who have financial problems who work for my critics/opponents hint/imply that if they had not given so much money to churches, they would not have the financial problems that they now have.)
http://www.sj-r.com/news/20171202/springfield-diocese-synod-approves-tithing-earlier-confirmation
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Give 10 percent The biblical concept of tithing comes from the Old Testament prophet Abraham and is a concept more familiar to Protestant denominations. The Springfield plan would follow one by the Wichita (Kansas) Diocese that asks Catholics to give 8 percent of their income to the parish and 2 percent to another charity, “according to their (financial) means,” said Paprocki.)

HERALD & NEWS
— Rauner to speak at multi-Chamber of Commerce luncheon in Bolingbrook – ALEX ORTIZ (DIERSEN: What do those who dominate your Chamber of Commerce think of you? Those who dominate the Wheaton Chamber of Commerce a) abolished its Government Affairs Committee in 2011 to get rid of me, the committee’s senior member and b) blame for their problems, blame me for your problems, blame me for my problems, and blame me for everyone’s problems. They publicly insulted me at the end of their “State of the City” address last January. They vehemently oppose a) my opposition to promoting booze, gambling, pot, and other vices, b) my conservatism, c) my Republicanism, d) my having been baptized, raised, and confirmed as a Missouri Synod Lutheran, and e) the rest of my demographics. They treat me like I am a newcomer because I have lived in Wheaton only since 1978, I have never attended any schools in Wheaton, and I have never been a member of any church in Wheaton.)
http://www.theherald-news.com/2017/11/30/rauner-to-speak-at-multi-chamber-of-commerce-luncheon-in-bolingbrook/axtgwuy/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Gov. Bruce Rauner will be the special guest at a luncheon with multiple Chambers of Commerce on Tuesday at the Bolingbrook Golf Club. The Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce, Romeoville Chamber of Commerce, Lemont Chamber of Commerce and Chamber 630 will be in attendance. Tickets for future members of one of the chambers in attendance are $45. Members can pay $35. The event has drawn some resistance as a “Protest Governor Ruiner” Facebook event was created by a group called Friends Who March, a grass-roots organization that came out of the Women’s March in January after the inauguration of President Donald Trump. “Our governor is making an appearance at a Chamber of Commerce Luncheon,” the event details read. “So we will be there to let him know his days are numbered. Bring your flannels and duct tape so you’re just like him.” The flannels and duct tape are a reference to a political advertisement Rauner made saying that the duct tape was the solution to the state’s problems that the “politicians that got us into this mess” have. No walk-ins will be allowed. For information or to register for the event, call the Bolingbrook Chamber of Commerce at 630-226-8420. The luncheon is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday.)

BELLEVILLE NEWS DEMOCRAT
— How ‘partial news’ can become ‘fake news’ with a little inattention – Editorial
http://www.bnd.com/opinion/editorials/article187376578.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Davis said he asked his female staffers what they thought should be addressed by the committee that manages the House as a workplace. They worried that fewer women would be hired as a result of the scandal. Davis brought that up during the hearing. He said it would be wrong, but that it worried his female staff and the committee should address those worries. Enter Twitter. The Huffington Post’s Washington Bureau Chief tweeted the following: “Rep. Rodney Davis (R-IL) says he’s worried congressional offices will hire fewer women to avoid issue of sexual harassment.” She then clarified: “For the record, Davis is not saying he will do this. He said he had female staffers who were concerned about this. That’s why he asked what to do about it.” But it was too late. The twitterverse already was exploding with charges of sexism, misogyny, discrimination and questions about Davis’s parentage. Davis said he walked out of the hearing past the major media reporters and no one asked him anything. It was hours later when he learned of the tweetferno, fanned by some of the candidates wanting to challenge him in November.)

DANVILLE COMMERCIAL NEWS
— Time for someone new – Todd Bruns, Charleston (DIERSEN: In 2012, my critics/opponents shouted that it was time for someone new to run TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois. According to my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes, a) ANYONE could do a better job of running TAPROOT and b) I had caused all of TAPROOT’s problems. They dismissed/belittled/badmouthed the fact that since I had become TAPROOT’s chairman in 2005, I had assured a) that TAPROOT held a breakfast meeting the third Saturday of every month except August and December, b) that TAPROOT held a picnic each August, and c) that TAPROOT held a Christmas party each December.)

(FROM THE LETTER: John Shimkus has sold us out. I never thought I’d see the day a Republican would vote to raise taxes, but Shimkus voted for the GOP bill that eliminates many of the deductions that we in the middle class use — all to cut taxes for corporations that ship our jobs overseas. The GOP bill explodes our deficit by $2 trillion, and they plan to pay for that by cutting our Medicare and Social Security. Mr. Shimkus put his wealthy donors ahead of the interests of his voters here in east central Illinois. He’s been in Washington too long and has become corrupted by it. It’s time for someone new.)

— ABC News suspends Brian Ross for 4 weeks without pay for incorrect Mike Flynn story – Chris Enloe (DIERSEN: When my critics/opponents declare that I did something “incorrect” as your GOPUSA Illinois Editor, they cannot “punish” me by suspending me without pay. So they “punish” me a) by throwing me off their press advisory and press release lists and by throwing me out of their events. Previously, they “punished” me by having their operatives and their dupes end my TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois chairmanship, Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee membership, Milton Township Republican Central Committee webmaster service, Illinois Center Right Coalition Steering Committee membership, American Association of Political Consultants Midwest Chapter board membership, etc.)

I should write a book about a) those who since 2000 have determined who should be sanctioned in the Milton Township Republican Central Committee, DuPage County Republican Central Committee, Illinois Republican Party, TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois, Wheaton Chamber of Commerce, Illinois Center Right Coalition, American Association of Political Consultants, etc.; b) those who they have officially/unofficially sanctioned; and c) the stated reasons and the real reasons for the sanctions. Anti-Whites demonize, denigrate, and condemn those who are members of the following groups: Trump supporters, Protestant, conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, German American, and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time. — DIERSEN HEADLINE: Anti-Trumps say “Truthfeed Spreads Pro-Trump Propaganda The website has connections to the president’s camp—and white supremacists.” (DIERSEN: According to my “conservative” and/or “Republican” critics/opponents, a) all the articles linked to in GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails are propaganda and b) the only true news and true commentary is that which they put out. Should I publish a list of my “conservative” and/or “Republican” critics/opponents? Most commonly, they reject the traditional family, right to life, immigration, illegal drugs, and/or equal opportunity (no race or gender based preference giving) planks in the Republican Party platform and in the Illinois Republican Party platform. Most commonly, they promote LGBTQ activity, abortion, mass/illegal immigration, booze, gambling, pot, and other vices, race and gender based preference giving, age discrimination, patronage, political affiliation discrimination, abolition of the First and Second Amendments, and even worse things. Most commonly, they hint/imply/argue/shout that I am a White supremacist, Nazi, KKK member, hater, racist, sexist, bigot, and even worse things. Should I sue them?)

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— According to a 9:37 AM Saturday, October 28, 217 bulk email from Martin Keller, the Milton Township Republican Central Committee Chairman, “Jeanne is running!! In the next day or so she will be sending out her petitions to be on the ballot in the March 2018 Republican Primary. As soon as more information is available we will get it to you. Start thinking about friends and family around the state who can help her get the required number of signatures.” According to an extremely reliable source, former state representative Rich Morthland is her running mate.  At the October 11, 2017 Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) meeting, Ives said MTRCC members would be the first to know if she decides to run for Governor. – Dave Diersen

http://illinoisreview.typepad.com/illinoisreview/2017/10/rauners-campaign-war-chest-doubles-size-of-democrat-hopefuls.htm
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois Campaign for Political Reform shows Republican Bruce Rauner has raised campaign funds at more than twice the amount of his most well-funded Democrat hopeful J.B. Pritzker has raised. But even more stunning is that Rauner shows $65 million on hand while Pritzker shows only $7 million on hand. Will those numbers intimidate anyone from the conservative majority of the IL GOP from giving a serious challenge to the incumbent governor? Time is running out to circulate petitions.)

DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF DUPAGE COUNTY
— Become an Elected Official at the Most Important Level (DIERSEN: How much credibility do you have? According to my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes, Precinct Committeemen like me have no credibility. According to them, the higher position that you hold in the party, the more credibility that you have. They stress that even though I have been a Republican Precinct Committeeman since 1999, I am a) NOT a member of any Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) committee, b) NOT the chairman of any MTRCC committee, c) NOT a MTRCC officer, d) NOT a member of the DuPage County Republican Central Committee (DCRCC) Executive Committee, e) NOT a DCRCC officer, f) NOT a member of the Illinois Republican Party (IRP) State Central Committee, g) NOT an IRP officer, and h) NOT the IRP National Committeeman. They stress that MTRCC rudely dumped me as its webmaster in 2010 and 2004 and that when I ran for Treasurer in 2004, I got only 13 votes. Those who dominate MTRCC focus on demonizing, denigrating, and condemning me, my credibility, and my GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails. They blame me for their problems, for your problems, for my problems, and for everyone’s problems. They further stress that I am no longer a TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois chairman, Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee member, Illinois Center Right Coalition Steering Committee member, American Association of Political Consultants Midwest Chapter board member, GAO employee, etc.)

(FROM THE POSTING: For many, the first elected position they hold is that of Precinct Committeeman, PC for short. PC’s are elected officials and are vital to their fellow candidates running for Public Office. Elected PC’s serve a two year term and make up the Central Committee of the County Party and vote on all major decisions. The DuPage Elections Committee describes the role of PC as follows: The grass roots and foundation of the political parties are its precinct committeemen. They serve as the foot soldiers to the most fundamental political unit of government, the precinct. The precinct committeeman helps shape party policy and participates in the selection process of candidates. A precinct committeeman is elected to a two-year term in the even-year primary elections. In our PC orientation, we cover exactly how you can *Represent the party’s voters at the county central committee convention to elect the county central chairman and its officers. The precinct committeeman casts a total number of party votes, (weighted vote), as cast in the precinct at the recent primary election *Become a voter registrar and register all qualified constituents *Appoint and fill vacancies of election judges for the precinct polling place *Provide candidate and election information to the voters *Circulate petitions for candidates prior to the primary election *Become familiar with the elected officials and legislatures so the concerns of the voters can be passed on to them. *Attend and become involved in the party’s Township meetings in one of the nine townships in which you live)

DAILY HERALD
— Suburban GOP upset enough with abortion bill to find challenger to Rauner?  Wheaton’s Ives ‘flattered’ at buzz for a possible candidacy – Susan Sarkauskas
http://www.dailyherald.com/news/20170929/suburban-gop-upset-enough-with-abortion-bill-to-find-challenger-to-rauner
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Wheaton Republican state Rep. Jeannie Ives said Friday she is flattered by all the talk about whether she will run against incumbent Gov. Bruce Rauner in the March primary. Especially after Rauner signed a law Thursday to have Medicaid pay for abortions, he is “unelectable as a Republican,” she said. . .Ives’ name is being thrown about on radio, social media and print as a strong primary challenger to Rauner who would draw support from outraged social conservatives. “That’s very flattering … but there’s been no decision on my part,” Ives said. She was one of many Republican legislators who publicly campaigned for Rauner’s “Turnaround Agenda,” which dealt with money-related matters such as workers’ compensation and pensions. But she called Thursday’s decision on abortion “egregious” and “very extreme.” “Everybody I talk to is disavowing him. … This is a bridge too far for most Republicans,” she said. Lt. Gov. Evelyn Sanguinetti of Wheaton released a statement disagreeing with Rauner but also saying she would continue to work with him to accomplish other goals. State Sen. Jim Oberweis, also a fan of the Turnaround Agenda, said Rauner should have vetoed the bill on cost alone, saying the state is in “deep financial stress” and can’t afford new spending. He is also disappointed with Rauner’s recent actions concerning treatment of undocumented immigrants. But, he said, he knew Rauner was not a social conservative. “I respect the man. I think he has done a great job in standing up to Michael Madigan,” Oberweis said. Party unity? Schneider said the party must focus on beating the Democrats. “We need a check on the Democrats in Springfield,” said Pat Brady of St. Charles, former leader of the state Republican Party and a Rauner supporter. He doesn’t see a viable challenger to Rauner, especially since he has a huge campaign fund and a month of signature-collecting under his belt. Gubernatorial candidates need a minimum of 5,000 signatures on their petitions, which are due Dec. 4. “I think the reality is nobody could beat him in a primary,” Brady said. “The political reality in this state is there are a substantial amount of voters in Cook and the collar counties” that are abortion rights supporters, Brady said. “He took a real strong talking point away from the Democrats.” Ives disagrees. “Money isn’t everything. The grass-roots (Republicans) are very upset. I’m not sure Rauner’s re-electable. “Maybe if he switched parties he might be able to run as a Democrat.”)

http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20170929/BLOGS02/170929845/abortion-decision-may-spark-challenge-from-gov-rauners-right
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In a phone interview, state Rep. Jeanne Ives, a social and economic conservative and West Point graduate from Wheaton, said she’s concluded that Rauner “cannot be elected next year.” “It’s his decision whether or not to run. If he does, I hope we’d put up a primary opponent against him, because I won’t be supporting him,” Ives continued. Asked who that might be, Ives replied, “That’s an open question.” When I said that sounds like she’s interested, she answered, “I’ve not ruled it out,” noting not only Rauner’s “flip flop” on the abortion bill but also his earlier decision to sign bills boosting funding for Chicago Public Schools and directing law enforcement officials not to cooperate with federal immigration agents in many cases involving those in the country illegally.)

CAPITOL FAX
—  Haevers leaves – Rodriguez leaves *** Mahoney is latest top Rauner administration official to resign (DIERSEN: In Illinois, in DuPage County, in Milton Township, in Glen Ellyn, and in Wheaton, when there is news of interest to Illinois Republicans, routinely, Democrat plants, Libertarian plants, Green plants, and RINOs first give that news to the Democrat news media, and especially to Rich Miller. Democrat plants, Libertarian plants, Green plants, and RINOs do not want Illinois Republicans to first learn of anything by reading GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails. Further, when there is news of actions taken by the DuPage County Election Commission (DCEC) that might adversely affect elected DuPage County Republican Precinct Committeemen, Democrats and Democrat plants, Libertarians and Libertarian plants, Greens and Green plants, and RINOs certainly do not want me to know about it. They know that if I was given the names and contact information of those elected DuPage County Republican Precinct Committeemen who are affected by DCEC’s proposed precinct line changes, I would immediately notify them.  Just kidding, but not completely, I ask should I consider forming a “DuPage County Elected Republican Precinct Committeeman Association.” What about politicians who want precinct lines to be changed a) to reward those who pander to them and b) punish those who do not pander to them?)
https://capitolfax.com/2017/07/17/mahoney-is-latest-top-rauner-administration-official-to-resign/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Mike Mahoney, the governor’s Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Legislative Affairs, resigned this morning. I’m told the parting was amicable Here’s Sneed from last week… “The big question: Will Mike Mahoney, the governor’s policy chief, be told to leave? “Mike was the guy who kept the troops together, but the expectation is that there is a lot more to come in the cleaning house department,” a Rauner source said.” It almost goes without saying that this is yet another big loss for the administration. Mahoney was a key player and both House Republican Leader Jim Durkin and Senate GOP Leader Bill Brady reportedly asked the governor to do what he could to keep Mahoney on the payroll. In the end, however, he really had no choice but to leave. I’m told that more resignations are expected as early as today, so stay tuned.  Sources close to the governor’s office confirm that the governor’s Deputy Chief of Staff for Public Engagement Phil Rodriguez has also resigned. WALL STREET JOURNAL
— La Raza Finally Loses ‘the Race’  The leftist Chicano outfit rebrands itself as UnidosUS. – Mike Gonzalez  (DIERSEN: To support La Raza, or now UnidosUS, is to shout that you are anti-Trump, anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, anti-German Americans, anti-draft avoiders (except Bill Clinton), and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America longer than your ancestors.)
https://www.wsj.com/articles/la-raza-finally-loses-the-race-1500229809
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Since its inception in 1968, made possible in part by a grant from the Ford Foundation, La Raza has been far more dependent on boardrooms and government than grass-roots support. But with government largess drying up, the liberal political-advocacy group may find itself needing greater support from the rank and file. This won’t be easy. The nation’s “Hispanics” are undergoing a radical shift that most politicians are missing: A white majority is likely to persist in America. “Many children growing up today in mixed families are integrating into a still largely white mainstream society,” sociologist Richard Alba noted in American Prospect last year. These children are “likely to think of themselves as part of that mainstream, rather than as minorities excluded from it.” The name La Raza—“the race” in Spanish—flies in the face of this reality. It is off-putting to many “Hispanics,” an artificial Census category comprising many razas. The organization’s CEO, Janet Murguia, admitted as much in a video announcing the name change: “We must make sure that our name and our organization evolves along with and remains relevant to our ever changing Hispanic community.” Appealing to a broader swath of this diverse group is necessary now that the “fat years” under President Obama are gone. The Obama Justice Department made a practice of settling lawsuits against corporate defendants by requiring they make large donations to groups like La Raza. It was, in the words of House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, “a scheme to funnel money to politically favored special interest groups.” In a letter sent to Attorney General Loretta Lynch in the closing days of the Obama administration, Mr. Goodlatte noted that “in just the last two years, DOJ has directed nearly $1 billion to activist groups, entirely outside of Congress’s spending and oversight authority.” Taxpayer money was flowing into La Raza coffers too. When Cecilia Munoz, a top La Raza lobbyist, joined Mr. Obama’s Domestic Policy Council, federal subsidies for La Raza went from $4.1 million to $11 million a year. And La Raza loyally promoted Mr. Obama’s policies as pro-Latino. You can expect the group to continue agitating on behalf of the Democratic Party. Whether UnidosUS becomes more grass-roots-driven than La Raza remains to be seen. The group’s corporate board of advisers still includes Comcast , AT&T , Bank of America , Chevron , Coca-Cola , Ford, Con-Agra Foods and other Fortune 500 firms. Its more than 260 local affiliates train and mobilize an activist core of community organizers but have only a third of the vote on the board. This week’s name change may be a recognition of an imperfect model. Or it may be nothing more than a marketing ploy. The latter is more likely.)

— Illinois taxpayers foot the bill for legislators — even after they retire – Roger Kempa, Darien  (DIERSEN: In my defense, my $50,856 Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) pension is only 41% of my ending GS-13 Step 10 salary of $122,991 in today’s dollars. The federal government subsidizes $17,288 (75%) of my and my wife’s health, dental, and vision insurance, but we have to pay $5,763 (25%). My Social Security is only $2,028 because I get a CSRS pension. Federal COLAs are far less than inflation.  My CSRS pension has been, is, and will forever be dramatically reduced because my Democrat superiors in the federal government wasted my career. My Democrat GAO superiors forced me to take their early retirement offer in 1997 when I was 49 years old, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, did not promote me beyond GS-13, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take an $18,847 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/letters/ct-illinois-taxpayers-legislators-retire-pension-radogno-20170711-story.html
(FROM THE LETTER: This is in response to a Monday letter to the editor “Farewell, Sen. Radogno.” Former state Sen. Christine Radogno will be with the taxpayers of Illinois for many decades to come. She can expect to receive pension payments totaling more than $2.3 million during her retirement. Her final salary of more than $95,000 results in an estimated first-year pension of more than $81,000. That payment increases by 3 percent annually, thanks to the ill-conceived General Assembly Retirement System. Dozens of Illinois legislators have said “no” to their pensions. Radogno said “yes,” as if it were an entitlement. Folks retiring on their Social Security pension are much less fortunate. Someone retiring at age 65 would receive only around $35,340 per year, or 37.2 percent of a $95,000 salary (if he or she is married) or otherwise $23,621 per year, which is 24.9 percent of a $95,000 salary. Meanwhile, Radogno’s first-year estimated pension represents 85.3 percent of her salary. Retired Illinois legislators with four or more years of service have their insurance for health care, prescriptions and vision care subsidized. Generous Illinois taxpayers foot the bill for those benefits and their annual pensions! And none of those pensions are subject to Illinois taxation. Illinois taxpayers will be watching Radogno’s replacement. He or she should start by setting a good example: refusing a taxpayer-paid GARS pension and insurance for health care, prescriptions and vision care. Since all folks receiving a pension in Illinois are not subject to Illinois income tax, an income cap needs to be established, say $60,000 as an example. Anything above that cap would be taxed. It is a matter of fairness, and equity, toward paying the $5 billion, 32 percent income tax increase. How about it Illinois state legislators?)

— Township regime angling to restore perks – Kurt Dorr, Naperville
http://www.dailyherald.com/discuss/20170712/township-regime-angling-to-restore-perks
(FROM THE LETTER: I am very disappointed in the article by Marie Wilson alleging the Township Road District merger between Naperville Township and Lisle Township is proving difficult. As a former candidate for Township Trustee I am pretty familiar with the course of events leading up to the referendum. What Marie fails to mention (and it is critically important) is that the initial proposal by the Township and City of Naperville was to have Naperville’s street department take over the Township roads. That would have been the optimum deal and saved the most money. However, the vested interest (Republicans, no less) rose up to stop the loss of their generous pay and benefits. It was only after the Township Supervisor, at that time, cut their budget and forced the road district to strike a deal with Lisle Township. For the new regime at the Naperville Township Road District to cry it’s too difficult to effect the merger is disingenuous at best. They are simply angling to restore their overly generous pay and benefits; and the article by Marie Wilson plays right into their hands.)

ILLINOIS REVIEW
— THORNER: SCHLAFLY’S MOST POWERFUL OFFICE IN THE WORLD (PRECINCT COMMITTEEMAN)  (DIERSEN: If you want to help elect candidates who can and will defend and advance the Republican Party platform and the Illinois Republican Party platform, please become a Republican Precinct Committeeman/Captain. I have been the Republican Committeeman for DuPage County Milton Township Precinct 9 since 1999.)
http://illinoisreview.typepad.com/illinoisreview/2017/07/thorner-schlaflys-most-powerful-office-in-the-world.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Donald Trump is the most powerful man in the world, so technically, the U.S. Presidency is the “Most Powerful Office in the World.”  But what if you were told of another public office that (ultimately) chooses who will be President and virtually every other elected official in the U. S.?  If that were true, wouldn’t that office (ultimately) be the “Most Powerful Office in the World”? Conservatives take pride in their knowledge of the Constitution and the outward forms of American Government. Many can quote the Founding Fathers, such as, “The least governed are the best governed” (Jefferson) and “Government is like fire, a useful servant but a deadly master” (George Washington), etc., but the bottom line is, many conservatives know next to nothing about the real system of American government, which isn’t the fairy tale that has been taught in school and colleges over the past few decades. If you are tired of seeing things continue to go down the drain, it is essential that you understand how liberals dominate our government.  Madigan’s budget deal was the straw that broke camel’s back for many conservatives. What might be done to salvage Illinois after ten Republicans joined Madigan and 60 other Democrats in voting for a permanent, 32 percent income tax increase and 33 percent corporate tax hike, when Illinois residents already shoulder the heaviest local and state tax burden in the country? Irresponsible is that a three-fifths majority of state lawmakers, including Republicans, sold out their constituencies to reward the special interest groups (public employee unions, trial lawyers and other political insiders) that have been paying to keep them in office for decades. Understanding the seven laws of American government, set forth in an essay by Phyllis Schlafly in the early 90’s — The Most Powerful Office in The World Is NOT The President of the United States! — is essential to change Illinois from a failed state to one that will live up to its potential, where people feel proud to live and work and where businesses can grow and prosper.  The lack of good people at the grass roots is why we get so many bad apples that call themselves “Republicans”. E-mail Andy Schlafly to order copies of Phyllis Schlafly’s article. Phyllis Schlafly (August 15, 1924 – September 5, 2016) was a founding member of the modern conservative movement. She was described by the New York Times as the “one of the most relentless and accomplished platform debaters of any gender to be found on any side of any issue.”  Following are excerpts from Phyllis’ article, which is as powerful today as it was back in the early 90’s: . . . Therefore, Precinct Committeeman is the most powerful office in the world because Precinct Committeemen determine who gets the chance to be elected to office at every level of government. Remember, if your candidate is not on the ballot, he will not be elected.)

The nearly 100 entries included the outstanding Lakeside Lutheran High School Marching Band. Republicans who participated in the parade were: DuPage State’s Attorney Bob Berlin; DuPage County District 4 officials Grant Eckhoff, Tim Elliott, Amy Grant, and Tim Whelan; James Mendrick for DuPage Sheriff; Frank Bibbianno for DuPage Sheriff; Karen Wilson for DuPage Judge; and the Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC).  Republicans who walked with entries included Ron Almiron, Lori Carlson, Joseph Caruso, Flo Dangelo, Sal Falbo, Chris Heidorn, Pat Hinchey, Marty Keller, Larry LaVanway, Antonio Lollino, Paula McGowen, Ron Menna, David Norck, Thommen Poozhikunnel, Mary Rash, Pat Ryan, and Janet Shaw. Gary Muehlfelt drove the truck that pulled the outstanding MTRCC float. Peter Breen, Mike Connelly, and Jeanne Ives could not participate in the parade because of the Democrats. Peter Roskam participated in a different parade. This year, for the 12th year in a row, “DuPage Republicans” helped sponsor the parade and fireworks. “DuPage Republicans” was one of the two $2,500 “Star” sponsors and again sponsored the Wheaton high school bands and the Tunes of Glory Pipes and Drums parade entries. Because of a last minute shortage of banner carriers, I had the honor of helping carry the “Sponsored by DuPage Republicans” banner ahead of the Tunes of Glory Pipes and Drums. Outstandingly, again this year Tim Whelan coordinated Republican use of the “DuPage Republicans” booth at the fireworks. This year again, I delivered flyers to the residences and businesses on the parade route. The flyers listed the Republican entries in the parade and the Republicans who helped sponsor entries. Outstandingly, the flyers were printed courtesy of Alpha Graphics. This year, outstandingly, Roger Claar is a $500 contributor, Chris Nybo is a $250 contributor, Phil Suess is a $150 contributor, and Bob Berlin, Peter Breen, Mike Connelly, Grant Eckhoff, Tim Elliott, Amy Grant, Gwen Henry, Paul Hinds, Jeanne Ives, Marty Keller, Deanne Mazzochi, Paula McGowen, James Mendrick, Peter Roskam, Darlene Ruscitti, and Tim Whelan are $100 contributors. Please thank them for helping sponsor the parade and fireworks. This year was the 10th anniversary of an elephant walking behind Roskam in the parade.  For that 2007 parade, I had the honor of raising $2,000 on short notice from DuPage Republicans to sponsor that elephant.)

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
— Rauner eager to talk policy at D.C. meeting — Trump still a taboo – Andy Grimm  (DIERSEN: What if the Illinois Republican Party State Central Committee passed a resolution by weighted vote calling for Rauner to work with Trump?)
http://chicago.suntimes.com/news/rauner-eager-to-talk-policy-at-d-c-meeting-trump-still-a-taboo/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Gov. Bruce Rauner is planning a rare visit to Washington, D.C., this weekend for a gathering of Republican governors, but Rauner refuses to say whether he is ready to do something even more rare — meet with, or even acknowledge, President Donald Trump. The event has long been a major party fundraiser, and this year could be a potential minefield for GOP governors of blue states. Rauner departs Illinois for the Republican Governors Association’s annual conference having pledged to run for a second term in 2018, despite dismal polling numbers after two years of partisan gridlock over the state budget and his business-friendly, anti-union agenda. Adding to potential headwinds for his campaign is the controversial member of his party in the White House. Rauner has taken a stance of studied ambivalence as regards the Republican in the White House since Trump first began to rise in the primaries. Rauner ditched the Republican National Convention, declined to endorse Trump by name — only saying he would support his party’s nominee — and also was a no-show at Trump’s inauguration. Rauner has revealed one private telephone conversation he had with Trump since the New York billionaire won the presidency, describing it as a “good, positive conversation.” But Rauner seldom utters the name “Donald Trump,” and Friday he did not respond to a question about whether he would attend the GOP governors’ Sunday dinner with the president and first lady. “I’m going to meet with other governors around the country to talk about policy,” Rauner told reporters after a Black History Month ceremony Friday at the Thompson Center. “There’s a lot of changes going on from the federal level. We’re going to talk about Medicaid, we’re going to talk about education, we’re going to talk about regulatory relief, going to talk about more economic growth, growing more manufacturing in the United States of America, more manufacturing in the state of Illinois. “I’m going to talk policy, ideas and working together as governors to advocated for the good changes, so I can grow the jobs and economy in Illinois.” Left unsaid was whether Rauner took issue with the changes, coming largely from Trump, and any mention of Trump’s name. Trump, for his part, has seemed to accept that governors in his party in blue states weren’t going to be vocal supporters. And while the president frequently makes Chicago, Illinois’ largest city, a target in his twitter feed, he has never tweeted a peep about the fiscal crisis facing the state as Rauner remains at loggerheads with Democrats in the Legislature. Rauner seldom travels to Washington and is skipping out on the non-partisan National Governors Association conference, also this weekend in D.C., typically a more policy-focused gathering. Governors from 40 states will attend, according to the NGA website. The RGA typically includes fundraisers, and is a showcase for the party’s rising stars, and the group typically funnels millions into gubernatorial races. Rauner, a millionaire financier before running for office, poured tens of millions from his personal fortune into his campaign and the mid-term legislative races, and it’s not clear he’ll need any boost from his fellow GOP chief executives. It’s also not clear how Trump could affect his bid for a second term. In 2018, Rauner will be one 27 or the 33 Republican governors making a bid for re-election, and one of five incumbent GOP governors leading states that Hillary Clinton won in 2016. Rauner did denounce Trump’s remarks in a video recorded by an Access Hollywood crew that were released in October, in which GOP nominee claimed to have pursued the affections of a married woman and to groping women. He has criticized the president’s executive order banning immigrants from seven Muslim-majority nations as “over broad,” but was dinged by Democrats for being out of state as demonstrators swarmed O’Hare Airport in January to protest the ban. In the weeks since, he has not staked out a clear position on immigration initiatives proposed by the administration, except to say that he would not deputize state police to enforce federal immigration laws. Rauner did offer support for Trump’s pick for Secretary of Education, Michigan philanthropist and school choice ideologue Betsy DeVos, during her contentious but ultimately successful confirmation process.)

— DIERSEN HEADLINE: QUESTION: Who says “Trump’s immigration crackdown is a costly mistake: America needs these workers?” and “Immigrants here illegally make up almost 5 percent of the U.S. workforce. And no, American workers are not lined up to take those jobs, especially with unemployment at less than 5 percent.”  ANSWER: Those who are anti-Trump, anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, anti-German Americans, anti-draft avoiders, and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America longer than their ancestors.  Were you an “American worker?”  I was 1962-1997.  Did you take jobs that “American workers” did not stand in line for?  I did. I a) did yard work and delivered newspapers 1962-1964, b) washed dishes 1964-1966, c) cleaned golf shoes, chipped slag, and pumped gasoline in 1966, d) delivered mail 1966-1969, e) worked on an automobile assembly line and as a security guard in 1970, f) sold tires, automotive services, and major appliances 1970-1971, g) pumped gasoline 1971-1972, h) collected delinquent taxes 1971-1980, and i) audited federal agencies 1980-1997 )

http://www.pjstar.com/news/20170224/for-some-gop-governors-best-tactic-is-to-avoid-mention-of-trump
(FROM THE ARTICLE: As with the other governors, Rauner in Illinois said he is focusing on his state — or at least he’s trying to. He went to great lengths not to stake a clear position on Trump during the campaign — refusing to comment on the race, who he was voting for or even to say Trump’s name. Since the election, he has continued to avoid taking a clear position on the administration’s policies. His strategy is clearly intended to avoid alienating voters in Chicago, the suburbs and other urban areas who supported Hillary Clinton in November, or those in rural counties that went overwhelmingly for Trump. But avoidance also comes with some peril: Democrats, who control the Illinois Legislature, called the Republican governor cowardly for meeting with billionaire donors out of state while refugees were stranded at Chicago’s O’Hare airport after the president’s travel-banning executive order. Rauner already has a slim margin for error after a two-year budget stalemate has tanked his approval ratings.)

— After refusing to watch LGBT diversity video, Social Security judge sues to avoid being fired – Derek Hawkins
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2017/02/21/after-refusing-to-watch-lgbt-diversity-video-social-security-judge-sues-to-avoid-being-fired/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Citing his First Amendment rights and religious protections under the Civil Rights Act, a Social Security Administration judge in Texas who refused to watch an LGBT diversity training video is suing his superiors to avoid being fired, saying he was subject to a “religiously hostile work environment.”  Judge Gary Suttles said in a complaint filed Thursday in federal court in Texas that the Social Security Administration, or SSA, should be barred from taking any disciplinary action against him at least until his religious discrimination claims are heard by a federal employment panel. “The agency has wholly failed to work in good faith to reasonably accommodate Judge Suttles’ sincerely held religious belief against watching” the video, the complaint says. The agency violated his rights, the complaint says, “by discriminating against him on the basis of his religion, creating a religiously hostile work environment,” and by “retaliating against him for his protected activity of seeking a religious accommodation.” A representative from the SSA was not immediately available for comment on Tuesday. Suttles’s case comes amid a sweeping expansion of LGBT rights, during which courts have ruled against bakers, florists and others who say anti-discrimination measures clash with their religious liberties. Social conservatives and some Christians argue that the government should not be able to force them to offer their services to same-sex couples, and they have sought religious freedom exemptions as recourse. Some of the most high-profile cases have played out in the business world, including a lawsuit against a Christian baker who refused to make a wedding cake for a same-sex couple. But government officials have drawn attention for their defiance, too, among them Kim Davis, the county clerk in Kentucky who refused to issue same-sex marriage licenses in violation of a Supreme Court ruling. Suttles was hired as an administrative law judge in the Houston District office of the SSA in 2005. In the time since, he has never received a reprimand or warning, his complaint says. In May, one of the office’s directors sent an email ordering employees to watch a video called “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Community.” The 17-minute video included a message from the agency commissioner and “a brief session on tips for increasing cultural awareness in a diverse and inclusive environment,” according to the complaint. The email said the SSA was responding to a 2011 executive order from President Obama that instructed federal agencies to develop new workplace diversity and inclusion plans. Suttles wasted no time telling the office director he would not watch the video. “I am already fully aware to treat all persons with respect and dignity and have done so my entire life,” he said in an email the next day, according to the complaint. “Furthermore, this type of government indoctrination training does not comport with my religious views and I object on that basis as well. Monica Anderson, the hearing office’s chief administrative law judge, responded with a sharply-worded message giving Suttles a “direct order” to watch the training video. “Failure to follow this directive may lead to disciplinary action,” the chief judge said, according to the complaint. Anderson also denied Suttles’s request for a religious accommodation, saying the agency needed to ensure “all employees know about and comply with this.” The back and forth carried on for a few months. Suttles suggested that the agency give him a pass by allowing him to take a professional ethics course or “alternative diversity” course that “did not deal with such a specific community of people.” Anderson declined, proposing instead that Suttles read a transcript of the video. Suttles again refused. “Judge Suttles continued to refuse to watch the mandatory,” the complaint says, “because it is the substantive content of which, not the medium by which the content was delivered that violates his faith.” By the fall, Suttles’s case had made its way to the regional chief administrative law judge, who issued an official reprimand and warned Suttles that “future acts of misconduct” could result in more serious punishment, including removal from the job. (Administrative law judges, unlike federal court judges under Article III of the Constitution do not have life tenure.) The reprimand barred Suttles from working from home or requesting a job transfer for one year, according to the complaint. Suttles claims the action was retaliatory. He reported the episode to an Equal Employment Opportunity counselor, alleging the agency violated his First Amendment right to free exercise of religion, as well as his rights under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, which prohibits discrimination based on several factors, including religion. According to the complaint, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission will not finish its initial review of his case until mid-March. In the meantime, the deadline for Suttles to watch the video has lapsed. The judge said the agency “has made it quite evident that it does not intend to wait” to discipline him. Suttles says he will suffer “irreparable harm” unless the court prevents the agency from disciplining him or forcing him to watch the video. Though his complaint describes a “sterling work record,” Suttles was criticized and investigated by the SSA in 2015 after he scoffed at a Gulf War veteran’s post-traumatic stress disorder during a disability benefits hearing. Suttles questioned whether the veteran, a 44-year-old who served as a fueler on an aircraft carrier, had experienced true trauma during the war. “I mean, hey, you were in the Navy. You weren’t even fighting on the ground,” Suttles told him, according to the Austin American-Statesman. “To me it would have been exciting. What do you mean stressful?” The remarks were condemned by veterans groups at the time. The SSA ultimately rejected calls to temporarily remove Suttles from his job.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Following a recent string of overdoses that have occurred in Connecticut sober houses, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) joined U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), and Marco Rubio (R-Fl.) have called on the U.S. Government Accountability Office to investigate federal and state oversight of sober living homes, and determine whether additional oversight is necessary. In a letter to Comptroller General of the United States Gene Dodaro, Murphy outlined the gravity of the opioid epidemic in Connecticut and emphasized that a GAO review of sober homes would be helpful in understanding the role they play in helping Americans recover from substance use disorders. “Connecticut is in the midst of an opioid epidemic. The Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner projected that almost 900 residents in my state would die from an overdose in 2016. This is more than double what it was just four years ago,” wrote Murphy. “Unfortunately, there have been several recent overdoses that have occurred in Connecticut sober houses. These deaths have raised questions about these facilities and the GAO review will be helpful in determining whether state and federal policymakers should consider additional oversight.” Most recently, a Ridgefield man and Danbury woman died within a span of two weeks from drug overdoses at a sober house in Torrington.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Governor Bruce Rauner is declaring October 12 National Service Recognition Day, and one thousand residents will be turning out to celebrate helping their communities. A celebration will begin at 9 AM at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield. Volunteers will receive training and recognition at the center then head out to do several projects benefiting many Springfield organizations including the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Illinois, the Central Illinois Blood Center and many more. There will also be a parade at the Old State Capitol starting at 3:15 PM. Serve Illinois Executive Director Scott McFarland will lead the members in the AmeriCorps and Senior Corps pledges at the Old State Capitol, during which volunteers will proclaim their commitment to a year of service to Illinois. The event will also celebrate a national milestone of the one-millionth AmeriCorps Member to serve since 1994. 2,200 current AmeriCorps members have dedicated a year to helping communities meet their unmet economic, education, health, public safety or environmental needs. Members receive a living allowance, student loan deferment and training. Since 1994, 37,000 Illinois residents have served more than 52 million hours and have qualified for Segal AmeriCorps Education Awards totaling more than $1.3 billion. Senior Corps Members use their experience to support communities through the RSVP, Foster Grandparents and Senior Companions programs. These 55 years and older volunteers serve as mentors, coaches and companions to people in need. There are more than 11,000 seniors serving. For more information on Serve Illinois, or to find one of more than 2,5000 volunteer opportunities in the state, visit the organization’s website.)

http://thehill.com/blogs/in-the-know/in-the-know/300484-biden-powell-to-drag-race-on-jay-lenos-car-show
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Vice President Biden and former Secretary of State Colin Powell will drag race to kick off season two of CNBC’s “Jay Leno’s Garage” on Nov. 9, the network announced Tuesday. Biden and Leno will also discuss the vice president’s beloved 1967 Corvette before he battles Powell, but the network did not specify which car models Biden and Powell would race against one another. CNBC added Biden and Powell’s appearance is the first of six new episodes of “Jay Leno’s Garage” airing this year. Other notable guest appearances during the upcoming six-episode season include comedian Jerry Seinfeld, actor Patrick Dempsey, country star Brad Paisley and NASCAR driver Joey Lagano. The vice president called himself “a car junkie” while visiting the Detroit auto show in 2014, speaking about his father’s work managing a pair of car dealerships. Biden showered praise on the Corvette Z06 during his appearance, praising the sports car’s engine power and speed. “I just want you to know that the ’67 was zero to 60 in 5.5 seconds,” he said in Detroit. “I didn’t do that…but it was. But this new Corvette, Z06, is zero to 60, allegedly, in 3.4 seconds.” Organizers behind the Draft Biden 2016 super PAC, meanwhile, also released merchandize last year that featured Biden cruising in a Corvette. The groups “ridin’ with Biden” logo depicted the vice president sporting aviator glasses behind the steering wheel.)
