DAILY HERALD
— Rauner: Madigan promotes property taxes for personal profit  (DIERSEN: Since my wife and I had 915 Cove Court built in Wheaton in 1984, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes in my precinct, in Wheaton’s West District, in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in Milton Township, in DuPage County, and in Illinois have hinted/implied/argued/shouted that we should pay higher real estate taxes, that is, that the home’s assessed value should be increased.  They side with the home’s builder, with the subdivision’s builder, and with the City of Wheaton that argue that no building or construction code were violated when the subdivision and the home were built. They hint/imply/argue/shout that my wife and I have the “ability to pay” higher taxes because I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth and I have always been privileged, because I avoided the draft, because the federal government grossly overpaid me, because my wife and I gave up trying to have children, we did not adopt, and we did not become foster parents, and because my federal retirement benefits are much too generous. My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes side with Madigan.)

http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/449785/smuggling-deaths-what-blame
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Without E-Verify and worksite enforcement, we send the message that hiring illegal aliens is okay. Without prosecution of immigration-related Social Security fraud and tax fraud we send the message that lying and cheating is okay. Without tracking the departure of temporary visitors, and following up on those who overstay, we send the message that violating the terms of admission is okay. Foreigners hear that message loud and clear, which is why they’re so willing to pay criminals to smuggle them here.)

FED SMITH
— Should the Government Fire More People? And How Should They Do It? – Jeff Neal  (DIERSEN: My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes side with my Democrat superiors in the federal government against me.  Constructively, my Democrat GAO superiors fired me in 1997 when I was 49 years old. Since then, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have used that to viciously demonize me, to viciously denigrate me, and to condemn me. Further, they stress a) that my Democrat GAO superiors always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, did not promote me beyond GS-13, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take an $18,847 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980; b) that my Democrat IRS superiors did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974; and c) that my Democrat Post Office superiors forced me resign in 1969 and disallowed my sick leave requests in 1969 and 1968.)

The job of first pet – an enviable White House gig with luxurious live-in privileges, after-hours access to the president and guaranteed positive press coverage – is not currently available. That’s because President Donald Trump is not looking for a fluffy sidekick at the moment. Asked about plans for a four-legged addition to the White House, Stephanie Grisham, a spokeswoman for Melania Trump, said in a statement: “The first family is still getting settled so there are no plans at this time.” If Trump stays pet-free, he will be breaking with a long held tradition of presidential pet ownership.)

— Trump marginalizes experts, debases expertise – James Hohmann  (DIERSEN: Government is nasty.  Politics is nasty.  My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always debased the experience that I gained a) working for GAO for almost 18 years, the last 11 years of which at the GS-13 Step 1-10 levels, currently $94,610-$122,991; b) working for IRS for almost 9 years, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $79,563-$90,173; c) earning a bachelor’s degree in management from NIU in 1970 when I was 21 years old, an MBA from Loyola in 1976, a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul in 1980, and a master’s degree in financial markets and trading from IIT in 1997; and c) passing the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979 and passing the Certified Internal Auditor examination on my first attempt in 1981.  They debase the fact that I became a licensed CPA in 1981, a Certified Fraud Examiner in 1990, a Certified Government Financial Manager in 1994, a Certified Financial Services Auditor in 1996, and a Forensic Accountant in 1997.)

During the almost 30 years that I worked for the federal government, my salary increased every year because of COLAs, step increases, and/or promotions, except 1980 when I took an $18,847 (21%) pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO.  In today’s dollars, I earned $15.56/hour (GS-4 Step 1) when I started working for the Post Office in 1966 when I was 18; $44,853/year (GS-7 Step 1) when I started working for IRS in 1971; $90,173/year (GS-12 Step 5) when I left IRS in 1980; $71,326/year (GS-9 Step 10) when I started working for GAO in 1980; and $122,991/year (GS-13 Step 10) when my Democrat GAO superiors succeeded in forcing me to take their early retirement “offer” in 1997. (FROM THE ARTICLE: Under state election law, a new member of the Republican party must be appointed to the DuPage County Board within 60 days of Curran’s resignation, which he plans to officially submit Monday, he said. Residents of District 3, which includes parts of Downers Grove, Westmont, Burr Ridge, Hinsdale, Woodridge, Clarendon Hills, Darien and Willowbrook, can apply to at Dupageco.org/countyboard/dist3map. The newly appointed board member will serve the remainder of Curran’s term, which expires Nov. 30, 2018. LINCOLN JOURNAL STAR
— DREAM Act divisive, elitist – RUBEN NAVARRETTE JR. (DIERSEN: From what I see, to curry favor with Democrats, employers want to gloat that they hire illegals, and that to make way for them, they do not hire citizens of America and that they get rid of citizens of America.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: What bothered her was the insistence on going to college. What about those kids who go to vocational school or go straight to work? They didn’t deserve legal status? Someone in Washington was playing God again, deciding who stayed and who went according to a narrow definition of positive behavior. Why stop at attending college? Why not demand that beneficiaries of the DREAM Act not accept any public assistance, or abstain from smoking, or never fall into debt or not be unemployed for more than six months at any point in their lives? The new bill from Graham and Durbin is a slight improvement because it covers those who “work lawfully for at least three years.” But it also has a new requirement that recipients speak English and know U.S. history. Great idea. But shouldn’t we start by demanding those things from native-born U.S. citizens? These moral judgments are all subjective and awfully condescending. They’re all about what Graham, Durbin, and the other senators who will eventually support their bill require to make them feel comfortable with overlooking the fact that these young people are in the country illegally. Welcome to this week’s episode of the game show: “Good Immigrant, Bad Immigrant.” If Graham and Durbin want to make themselves useful in the immigration debate, they should stop treating immigrants like they’re some kind of social science experiment. Instead, they should draft a bill that would eventually legalize most of the 11 million people who are in the country illegally — whether or not they went to college or speak English. It’s no wonder that so many DREAMers experience a version of “survivor’s guilt” because they were tossed a life preserver while their parents and siblings are left to drown. All this talk about how the Trump administration is dividing families. You know what really divides families? The DREAM Act.)

https://www.facebook.com/DuPageGOP
(FROM THE ANNOUNCEMENT: Downers Grove, Ill. — The Republican 41st Senate District Selection Committee announced today the appointment of John Curran to the Office of State Senator for the 41st Senate District of Illinois. “John Curran will be an excellent State Senator for the 41st District,” said DuPage County GOP Chairman Brian Krajewski. “As the Vice Chairman of the DuPage County Board, John is a strong advocate for fiscal restraint and good government reforms, has deep roots in the community, and knows the pressing issues that southwest suburban residents face.” After interviewing about a dozen candidates, the committee members agreed that Curran is the most qualified person to serve the remainder of Christine Radogno’s term. “We interviewed many outstanding candidates who applied to fill this vacancy,” said Will County GOP Chairman Kathy Havel. “John’s record in support of respectful, responsible, representative government and his extraordinary commitment to constituent service was clear.” Since 2008, Curran has served the 3rd District of the DuPage County Board, where he led the effort to ban the end-of-career pension enhancements that is projected to save taxpayers $28 million. During his public service, he has pushed for transportation infrastructure development and cost-saving public employee reforms. For his professional career, he is a Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney focusing on employment and labor litigation. He also has municipal experience as a former trustee for the Village of Woodridge and is a current resident of Downers Grove. The 41st Senate District is in Cook, DuPage, and Will Counties. The Selection Committee consisted of Chairman Krajewski, Chairwoman Havel, Lyons Township GOP Committeewoman Christine Cook, and Lemont Township GOP Committeeman Howie Ludwig. Also present were Downers Grove Township GOP Chairman Bob Grogan, Lisle Township GOP Chairman Jay Fisher, and Homer Township GOP Chairman Brian Burian.)

To turn her against me, my Democrat GAO superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates stressed to her that I was conservative (she was liberal), Republican (she was Democrat), I was 100% German national origin (she was 100% Russian national origin), I was baptized, raised, and confirmed as a Missouri Synod Lutheran (she was Jewish), and that my ancestors had been in America since the 1840s (her ancestors were recent immigrants).)

That part-time income helped me a) help support my mother and brother, b) pay for tuition and books for graduate business classes at Loyola, c) pay off my 1972 Corvette car loan, and d) have a down payment to buy a new town home in University Park in September of 1972.)

Other adverse actions that they took against me included always ranking me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, not promoting me beyond GS-13, keeping me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forcing me to take an $18,847 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980. My Democrat IRS superiors did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974.  My Democrat Post Office superiors forced me resign in 1969 and disallowed my sick leave requests in 1969 and 1968.  They would not have taken the aforesaid adverse actions against me if I had been a Democrat, a minority, a female, or a veteran.  My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes side with my Democrat superiors in the federal government against me.)

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/wp/2017/07/21/hits-on-federal-retirement-advance-as-bill-is-introduced-to-fire-feds-for-no-cause-at-all/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Future federal employees could lose their jobs much more easily under legislation introduced by Rep. Todd Rokita (R-Ind.). He wants all new feds to be considered at-will employees, meaning they “may be removed/suspended without notice or right to appeal for good cause, bad cause, or no cause at all,” according to a summary of the legislation. This represents no understanding that civil service protections are designed to protect not just staffers, but also the public from a government bureaucracy riven with political favoritism, as was the case under the spoils system. Even members of Congress eager to fire feds faster must know that this drastic proposal runs afoul of a basic and long-standing principle that says government staffers should be protected from willy-nilly punishment by political operatives. While Rokita’s plan demonstrates the extremes to which the fire-feds-faster crowd will go, presumably, but perhaps not assuredly, there are enough people in Congress who know better. I doubt his legislation will fly. . .Not all Republicans want to punish feds. Nine GOP House members signed a letter in June opposing Trump’s proposal, because it would renege on the retirement promised to feds when they joined the government. “Congress and the administration cannot balance the federal budget on the backs of our federal workers,” said one of the letter signers, Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-Va.), after the House plan was released Tuesday. “Many of our federal employees work at the CIA, Pentagon, FBI, law enforcement, homeland security and intelligence agencies.  They and our federal workforce are dedicated hard-working professionals who work day and night to protect our homeland and national security, cure diseases, and provide services that help the American people.”)

DAILY HERALD
— Why video gambling needs more local control – Editorial  (DIERSEN: Gambling is a vice.  Government should not promote vice.  What percent of those who video gamble in Illinois are on welfare or will be on welfare – 98%, 99%, 100%?)
http://www.dailyherald.com/discuss/20170719/editorial-why-video-gambling-needs-more-local-control
(FROM THE EDITORIAL: We’ve never been thrilled about video gambling, and its expansion beyond the initial locales written into the law — bars, restaurants, fraternal organizations, veterans groups and truck stops — troubles us a bit. Putting gambling machines where kids pass them on the way to the breakfast cereal aisle seems like a new frontier. “That’s what they have in Las Vegas,” said longtime gambling opponent Anita Bedell, executive director of the Illinois Church Action on Alcohol & Addiction Problems. We’re not arguing any longer to do away with video gambling, and even if we were, we recognizue the challenge it would be to replace that revenue source. Illinois took in $27.6 million and towns got $5.5 million in May alone. But we can back a change to state law proposed by the Antioch Village Board, where at least one trustee intended for the Piggly Wiggly to get the liquor license but not video gambling. The village board, in a resolution, points out a fault in the gambling licensure process — once local authorities give a license to serve liquor, they have no control over whether that business also gets a gambling license. That’s handled by the Illinois Gaming Board. If towns don’t like it, their only choice is to opt out of video gambling altogether. In issuing the liquor license, “I would have preferred to add a clause that prevented gaming, but … that was not an option,” Antioch Mayor Larry Hanson said of the Piggly Wiggly. situation. Why not make it an option? It’s reasonable to let local authorities set limits within the boundaries of the existing law. Antioch’s example provides a persuasive argument for making the change.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Did you think Brooklyn’s “Check Your Privilege” cards were amazing? Then you’ll love this: Mike Allison at Turning Point News is reporting that students in a Purdue University class were given “Privilege Scorecards,” which is somehow stupider than it sounds. The questionnaire takes eleven totally arbitrary categories and awards points based on your answers. Because that is how equality works. There is much of the usual nonsense present: White and Asian people earn 25 and 10 points, respectively, while Latino and Black people are deducted points; Women lose 50 points, but gain back 20 points if they are cisgender women. Gay people lose 100 points, which I find deeply insulting as a gay man who would love nothing more than to just be counted the same as everybody else. Not to worry though, since the goal seems to be to get as far in the negatives as possible. A gay, intersex, trans, black, Middle-Eastern, Muslim, homeless, blind, short, ugly scientist who cannot add and is filling the form out on a Friday night would have -2570 points, which is of course a big win for that population. For some reason, Jews (against whom the majority of religiously-motivated hate crimes are committed) are awarded 25 points, while Christians are awarded 5 and Muslims lose 50. Jewish exclusion is not a surprise, since this comes from the same branch of leftism as the Chicago Dyke March (of “Zio” fame). This scorecard is a logical endgame of the emphasis that leftists have been putting on victimhood and the Oppression Olympics, championing those who have perceived disadvantages as inherently more virtuous. The obvious logical flaw here is that separating groups of people by physical characteristics and then assigning them virtue is the dictionary definition of racism. Purdue, by the way, is a publicly-funded university.)

USA TODAY
— FRONT PAGE TOP OF FOLD: CBO: Senate Republican Obamacare repeal plan would increase uninsured by 32 million in 2026 – Maureen Groppe (DIERSEN: What has helped you afford health care insurance?  For me, it was my being a federal employee 1966-1969 and 1971-1997, and for my wife and I, since 1997 and for the rest of our lives, it will continue to be my being a federal retiree. The federal government pays 75% of my and my wife’s health insurance premiums.  In addition, we are both covered by Medicare.  Of course, the aforesaid aggravates the hatred that my critics, their operatives, and their dupes have against me.)

WALL STREET JOURNAL
— The Latest ‘Hate’ Smear Target Is a Civil-Rights Group  The media again parrots the Southern Poverty Law Center’s scurrilous claims. – Edwin Meese III  (DIERSEN: QUESTION: Who calls who a hater? ANSWER: Members of Group A call members of Group B haters.  Members of Group A are anti-Trump, anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, anti-German Americans, anti-draft avoiders (except Bill Clinton), and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America longer than their ancestors and members of Group B are Trump supporters, Protestant, conservative, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, German Americans, draft avoiders (except Bill Clinton), and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time.)
https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-latest-hate-smear-target-is-a-civil-rights-group-1500500854
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The headlines were both inflammatory and untrue: “Attorney General Jeff Sessions Criticized for Speaking to ‘Hate Group,’ ” reported NBC. Reports from ABC and other major news outlets used similar language. Readers might be surprised to learn that the group in question is the Alliance Defending Freedom, a respected civil-rights law firm. So where did this scurrilous charge originate? With the Southern Poverty Law Center, which labels the ADF a “hate group.” The designation had nothing to do with the law firm’s policies or behavior. It’s just that the SPLC objects to its traditional views on the Constitution, the First Amendment and the meaning of marriage. No responsible media outlet should parrot the SPLC’s hate list without seeking to understand not only its motives but also the consequences of spreading false charges. I have personally known the ADF’s founder, Alan Sears, and its president, Mike Farris, for decades. Each has committed his life to fighting for justice, the rule of law, and a better future for all Americans. When I was attorney general in the 1980s, Alan worked for the Commission on Pornography, fighting for stronger laws against obscenity while protecting the First Amendment. Mike is a pastor, the founder of Patrick Henry College, and an extraordinary litigator. Together they have led the ADF to numerous victories at the Supreme Court, including this year’s 7-2 win in Trinity Lutheran v. Comer, a landmark case on church-state relations. I also know Mr. Sessions as a colleague and friend. His distinguished service to the nation over three decades, now as part of the Trump administration, has been rewarded with vicious attacks by the media and political opponents.)

THINK PROGRESS
— Whistleblower protections are on shaky ground under Trump – Lauren C. Williams  (DIERSEN: While I worked for the Democrats who ran the federal government 1966-1969 and 1971-1997, I blew the whistle on patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation. Because I have always been a Republican, were it not for federal civil service protections, a) the Post Office would NOT have hired me in 1966 or let me work there for almost 3 years, b) IRS would NOT have hired me in 1971 or let me work there for almost 9 years, c) IRS would NOT have promoted me in 1972, 1973, or 1974, d) GAO would NOT have hired me in 1980 or let me work there for almost 18 years, and e) GAO would NOT have promoted me in 1986.  My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes side with my Democrat superiors in the federal government.)
