(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Herald’s homepage is laid out like a typical news site, featuring dispatches from across the country, including “Trump Does Right by Floridian Families,” “President Trump Is Fighting for North Carolina Families,” and “President Trump is Fighting for Wisconsin Workers and Families.” Unlike most journalism outlets, American Herald doesn’t say who writes its articles; each one is either attributed to “American Herald Staff” or has no byline at all. A search on LinkedIn for Herald writers didn’t turn up a single one. The Herald is in fact run by America First Action itself, something the PAC isn’t hiding. At the bottom of the site is a disclosure that includes a non-clickable link to the PAC’s main site. Kelly Sadler—the PAC’s spokeswoman whose previous jobs include stints in the Trump administration and as a reporter at Bloomberg News—declined to answer specific questions about the Herald, but did say she would “love to tell you more about it after the Election as a post-mortem.” Disclosures aside, the Herald allows its owners to promote pro-Trump messaging in a format that takes on the shape of actual journalism. While America First Action pays to spread the site’s content, it is also designed to spread on its own as well. Social media sites tend to display information from all websites in ways that make them seem equally credible, and both America First Action and rank-and-file users are sharing articles as though they are news reports. The disclosures at the bottom of the site don’t show up on Twitter or Facebook when someone shares an article. It’s not hard to tell the site is a sham, but it can be difficult to resist suspending disbelief when someone is telling you what you want to hear. While the Herald is styled to look like journalism, it’s lacking in substance. Some articles prominently display out-of-context quotes that fact-checkers have described as misleading. Sadler acknowledged that Facebook has put disclaimers on some of America First Action’s ads, based on what she describes as “bogus fact checks.” The site’s Twitter account has been suspended, though neither Sadler nor a Twitter Inc. spokesman would explain why. While this kind of pretend reporting is directly connected to November’s election, it’s also a result of how the tech industry has reshaped the way people get news. The economics of digital journalism have gutted traditional outlets, especially those that cover local issues. Partisan organizations are increasingly eager to step into their place. Left-leaning digital strategy organization Acronym has started a handful of news websites focused on local news, and a recent New York Times investigation detailed a network of well over 1,000 websites where conservative political groups and corporate public relations firms can pay to dictate coverage. Whether the Herald survives much past November, its model for repackaging political messaging seems here to stay. “There is a big void,” said Penny Muse Abernathy, a professor of journalism and digital media economics at the University of North Carolina. “And what the void does is is push you over to your social media.”)

Photos taken in front of the Verdict Restaurant in Wheaton were sent to CBS 2 this week. They show a DuPage County Sheriff’s squad car, along with the department’s community service volunteer, parked in front of the restaurant. “We are right across from the courthouse, so the 99 percent of the people that are telling us to stay open work for the county,” said Verdict Restaurant owner Anna Sarantopoulos. Sarantopoulous chose to keep serving inside despite the governor’s order to stop, and she acknowledges the DuPage County Sheriff’s personnel sat inside this week. The department is only about a mile from the restaurant. “I can’t babysit a law enforcement officer. Do you know what I mean?” Sarantopoulos said. “They came in to support the Verdict. You know what I mean? I’m not the one to say, ‘Oh I can serve everybody else in the community but I can’t serve you.’ That’s not my place.” Late Monday, Sarantopoulous received a non-compliance notice from the DuPage County Health Department. She was threatened with a misdemeanor if the struggling restaurant continues to serve inside. “Our question is why us and not all the other the surrounding restaurants in the area?” Sarantopoulos said. “We’re trying to keep our staff. We’re trying to keep all our employees. We’re trying to pay the rent.” The DuPage County Sheriff’s Department said after we asked about the photos, an internal investigation started. “They have a boss. They have their own bosses. If the bosses wanted to tell them, ‘Do not go into any of the local restaurants,’ then they should have,” Sarantopoulos said. “Their boss should have reiterated and said, ‘Hey guys, be careful where you go eat.’ But not me. Several voters reported that while reading the questions on the screen of the electronic voting machines at early voting locations in DuPage County, after 10 seconds, the machine would automatically highlight the candidate or question that occupied the first ballot position, which this year are the Democratic Party candidates. (FROM THE ARTICLE: To make an informed decision at the ballot box in local government elections, the voter must make an additional effort to determine the candidates’ suitability for a particular office. It has been argued that in these local government elections, political parties should stand down and not actively promote any candidate on the basis of party affiliation alone. Unfortunately this is not the case. Idaho Democrat Party Chair Evangeline Beechler said during a recorded panel discussion: “When you get into non-partisan politics, right, you can kind of hide … so a lot of times we can get a lot of progressive liberals in those city council seats.” “Hide?” What are they trying to hide? In contrast, the Republican Party believes in transparency. Our Platform clearly describes our positions on public policy and our candidates are proud to identify their party affiliation. Our Kootenai County Republican Central Committee (KCRCC) is comprised of nearly 70 Precinct Committeemen from every part of our county. Each PC serves about 1,500 registered voters. An important part of the KCRCC’s mission is to assist the voters in evaluating the candidates by providing literature, forums, festivals and other resources. Precinct committeemen frequently field inquiries about candidates. In order to be consistent and transparent, our committee tasked our Elections Standing Committee with developing a questionnaire for all candidates, regardless of party. Since the “non-partisan” races do not use party affiliation, it is reasonable to inquire directly about the candidate’s positions on various policies and the candidates should be forthcoming with their views so that the voter can make an informed decision. To accomplish this, the Elections Committee developed a questionnaire which was then forwarded to the candidates. The Elections Committee compiled the results and presented their report to the KCRCC. The candidates also were given the opportunity to present themselves directly to the KCRCC and answer questions. Finally, the KCRCC voted on the candidates and issues they would recommend to the voters. In the interest of transparency, the metrics of the evaluation were posted on our website, kootenaigop.org, so that anyone could see who the KCRCC recommends and why they are recommended. This system is neither original nor unique as many organizations evaluate candidates to uncover information that would be of interest to their members. The whiners whined all their way through their senior theses to secure their worthless degrees. A large portion of the whiners went on to graduate schools in advanced griping and grousing — and are now ensconced in the ivory tower of critical race theory babble, subsidized by tax dollars at public colleges and universities, venting from on high about how hopelessly downtrodden they are at the hands of the oppressors paying their cushy salaries.
