(FROM THE ARTICLE: Ironically, Gagnon’s post drew attention to Facebook’s suspension of his friend, Laurie Higgins, who got a 7-day ban for criticizing Biden’s policy. “There was absolutely no incitement to violence on our part. We abhor violence done to any person,” Gagnon told PJ Media on Tuesday. “This is just a thinly veiled and pathetic excuse for censorship of any critical views toward trans-tyranny over our consciences, religion, and reason.” Only one point of view is being allowed,” he added, ominously. “Trump was not the great danger to the Republic. Left-wing canceling is.” Gagnon, who holds a Ph.D. in Pauline theology and sexuality from Princeton Theological Seminary, has published “The Bible and Homosexual Practice: Texts and Hermeneutics.” He teaches as a professor of New Testament Theology at Houston Baptist University. In the post Facebook flagged, Gagnon had defended Higgins’ response to Biden’s pro-transgender military policy.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Social media giants crossed a threshold in banning President Donald Trump and an array of his supporters — and now face a quandary on defining their efforts to remain politically neutral while promoting democracy and free speech. After Jan. 6, with its unprecedented violence in the seat of Congress, Trump was banned for allegedly inciting the rioters — on platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Google-owned YouTube and Snapchat. The alternative network Parler, which drew many Trump backers, was forced offline by Amazon’s web services unit. The bans broke new ground for internet firms but also shattered the longstanding notion that they are simply neutral platforms open for all to express any views. “Banning Donald Trump was a crossing of a Rubicon for social media firms, and they can’t go back,” said Samuel Woolley, a professor and researcher with the University of Texas Center for Media Engagement. “Up to now their biggest goal was to promote free speech, but recent events have shown they can no longer do this.”)

The president has a large base of supporters, some of whom were not deeply involved in Republican politics prior to Mr. Trump’s 2016 campaign. Third parties have typically failed to draw enough support to play a major role in national elections. The poll also showed voters find Biden likable and ethical, but didn’t give him high marks on the economy or for sharing their positions on the issues. 39% gave Biden a “4” or “5” on a five-point scaled on the economy; 38% gave him those high marks on sharing their positions on the issues. 55% of voters give Biden a “4” or “5” on a five-point scale of being knowledgeable and experienced enough to handle the presidency, and 53% as being easygoing and likable. 47% gave Biden high marks for having the ability to handle a crisis, and 45% give him high marks for having high personal and ethical standards.)

DAILY BEAST
— Fox News Launches ‘Purge’ to ‘Get Rid of Real Journalists,’ Insiders Say ‘BLOOD BATH’ Fox laid off at least 16 staffers, including Chris Stirewalt, who defended the election-night call that pissed off Trump. Insiders say the firings are part of an ideological purge. – Diana Falzone and Lachlan Cartwright
https://www.thedailybeast.com/fox-news-launches-purge-to-get-rid-of-real-journalists
(FROM THE ARTICLE: But a dozen current and recently departed Fox News employees who spoke with The Daily Beast all said the “purge”—as a few characterized it—was part of the network’s larger effort to pivot its website from straight-news reporting to right-wing opinion content in the mold of Fox’s primetime programming. “There is a concerted effort to get rid of real journalists,” said one recently departed Fox staffer. “They laid capable people off who were actual journalists and not blind followers.” Others said it was an attempt to silence leakers from speaking to outside media about the changes being instituted by Porter Berry, a former producer for Hannity and Bill O’Reilly, who recently transitioned from the TV side to running Fox’s digital properties. “Porter’s uncomfortable around and is suspicious of experienced editors,” one Fox News insider remarked to The Daily Beast. “They make him feel inept because his background is entirely in TV.” “Porter is at the helm,” one current employee declared of the layoffs, while a recently departed staffer said: “This is all Porter. Both an ideological purge and a purge of people he was threatened by.” “It’s essentially the final nail in the coffin for digital journalism at Fox,” another recently departed staffer declared. Though, this former staffer noted, the shift to focusing on right-wing opinion has paid off for Berry. “What has slightly been working for him are recaps of the network’s primetime opinion shows,” the source said, and so the desire is for more “cheap labor to write a dozen 250 word recaps of the network’s primetime shows.”)

CRAIN’S CHICAGO
— The Illinois GOP has an opportunity—even now. Yes, they’re facing a crisis of epic proportions in the post-Trump era. But don’t underestimate Illinois Democrats’ ability to overreach—and to ignore the dangers of failing to appeal to voters in the middle. – GREG HINZ
https://www.chicagobusiness.com/greg-hinz-politics/illinois-gop-has-opportunity-even-now
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Call it the Adam Kinzinger conundrum. Ask top Illinois Republicans who can lead the party back to the glory days, the days when the party’s nominee could grab a U.S. Senate seat or defeat Gov. J.B. Pritzker, and they’ll drop Kinzinger’s name. And almost as quickly, they’ll openly wonder whether the southwest suburban congressman who voted to impeach President Donald Trump can win a GOP primary and make it to the general election. So it goes for a GOP that, both in Illinois and nationally, is going through an existential identity crisis, one whose results will affect all of us and not just Republicans. Trump is toast. History. Soon to leave the White House and, after the invasion of Capitol Hill, without any real prospect to again hold public office or remain the dominant figure in the GOP. It may take a while but, like an ice cube in the sun, he’ll melt away, caught alone in a tweet-less land. But if Trump is gone, his voters and their issues remain. To deny them, to ignore their calls and their concerns, is to beg for another Trump to rise up later. “I don’t believe in a cult of personality,” says former gubernatorial and congressional hopeful Jeanne Ives, a cultural and economic conservative by anyone’s measure. But while the GOP needs to “take the rhetoric down,” she adds, “people want someone who is fighting for them. . . .People are tired of big government with no solutions.” Now, one of the reasons why many voters consider government to be the enemy is because of the garbage some of their leaders from Fox News-land are feeding them. You know, the enablers, the folks who helped peddle the line that arguably the most investigated and litigated presidential contest in American history has been rigged and unfairly decided. Like downstate U.S. Reps. Mike Bost and Mary Miller. Even as the Capitol was still reeling from the impact of a cop-battering, glass-breaking mob, they voted to give the mob what it wanted: a halt to certification of the presidential winner for no good reason beyond Trump’s heart’s desire. Or Todd Ricketts. He and his siblings own the Chicago Cubs, and some think his deep wallet might make Ricketts a candidate for statewide office or a major backer thereof sometime soon. But if Ricketts has any regrets for heading fundraising for Trump, he hasn’t voiced them. I’ve asked. Or the four other Republican congressmen from Illinois who couldn’t bring themselves to join Kinzinger and vote to hold the instigator in chief to account. That having been said, while some surely are flat-earthers and anti-vaxxers, 2.5 million Illinoisans voted for Trump. Their issues, be it tax rates, public safety or jobs, need to be addressed. They count. The truth is that, with Republicans in disarray, Illinois Democrats are utterly full of themselves, convinced in their gut they can do what they want because no one will call them to account. I’ll admit the Illinois House recently did finally retire Speaker Mike Madigan—after a decade of bad publicity and a growing series of federal indictments in the Commonwealth Edison scandal, that is. But those same legislative Democrats in that same legislative session also voted to boost Chicago firefighter pensions that the city already can’t pay for, costing hundreds of millions of dollars. The Dems also voted to further boost the bargaining clout of a Chicago Teachers Union that literally wants to own both sides of the bargaining table. Why? Because the unions wanted it, that’s why. And rank-and-file Democratic lawmakers don’t have the guts to say no. What I’m saying is that Illinois Republicans have opportunity, even now. Democrats are quite capable of soiling their own nest. But to reach millions of voters in the middle, the GOP somehow has to cleanse a brand that now is horridly tarnished. Please, give me real choice on Election Day.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Centrist Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.), an Iraq and Afghanistan war vet who’s clashed with Trump, has signaled support for impeachment. “I’ll vote the right way, you know, if I’m presented with that,” Kinzinger said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” program. “I just think it’s probably not the smartest move right now, but I think that’s going to be out of my hands.” A day later, after the article of impeachment was introduced, Kinzinger’s spokesman struck a harsher tone and indicated the Illinois Republican may very well vote with Democrats. “Congressman Kinzinger is committed to doing what is right, no matter the political cost. What President Trump did last week was incite violence and encourage a mob to attack the United States Capitol. Clearly, the President violated his oath of office and is unfit to serve,” the spokesman said in a statement. Kinzinger won re-election in November by 29 percentage points.)

— What Got A La Grange Library Worker Fired The employee was accused of violating anti-discrimination and anti-harassment policies. – David Giuliani (DIERSEN: Prior to August of 1997, when I was 48 years old, my Democrat GAO superiors led me to believe that they were going to let me work at least until I would be eligible for regular retirement in 2003 when I would be 55 years old. But starting in August of 1997, they increasingly made it clear that if I did not take their early retirement “offer” which expired on September 30, 1997, they would constructively, if not literally, demote me and make my next 6 years a living hell. Previously, they had not taken any formal disciplinary actions against me. But they had given me unfair performance expectations and appraisals, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, did not promote me beyond GS-13, got rid of my mentor in 1987, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take a $20,157 (21%) pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980.)

POLITICO ILLINOIS
— Richard Goldberg is being recruited by some members of the Illinois GOP to become party chairman, according to a source close to the selection process. The position opened up over the weekend when Chairman Tim Schneider announced he was stepping down after six years. Goldberg most recently served as a director with the White House National Security Council and before that was chief of staff for former Gov. Bruce Rauner and deputy chief of staff to former Sen. Mark Kirk. Goldberg, who’s also an intelligence officer in the Naval Reserve with the rank of lieutenant commander, is seen as someone who can work across all areas of the Illinois GOP and stand up to Democrats. Goldberg would bring the star power that comes from working for Trump. He also could help rebuild the Republican presence in Lake County, where Kirk resides. The area has moved left with each election cycle in recent years. — GAO Report Examines Reasons Behind Gender Pay Gap, Shows Variation (DIERSEN: If I had not been denied my 7th Amendment rights in Diersen v. GAO, I would have presented a jury with evidence that my Democrat GAO superiors paid their employees who were minority and/or female and who had similar education, similar work experience, and/or similar professional certifications and licenses to what I had far more than they paid their employees who were White and/or male. Starting in 1976, when I was 27 years old and earned an MBA from Loyola, I had more education than most of my IRS coworkers. Starting in 1979, when I passed the CPA examination on my first attempt, I had more professional certifications than virtually all my IRS coworkers. Stating in 1981, when I passed the Certified Internal Auditor examination on my first attempt, I had more professional certifications than virtually all my GAO coworkers. Stating in 1981, when I became a licensed CPA, I had more professional licenses that virtually all my GAO coworkers. Further, I earned a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul in 1980 and a master’s degree in financial markets and trading from IIT in 1997. Further, I became a Certified Fraud Examiner in 1990, Certified Government Financial Manager in 1994, Certified Financial Services Auditor in 1996, and Forensic Accountant in 1997.)
https://www.fedweek.com/issue-briefs/report-examines-reasons-behind-gender-pay-gap-shows-variation/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: What GAO Found The overall pay gap between men and women in the federal workforce has narrowed considerably, from 19 cents on the dollar in 1999 to 7 cents in 2017, but the current pay gap is greater for certain groups of women, according to GAO’s analysis of data from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). Two trends help explain why the pay gap has narrowed: (1) men and women have become more similar in measurable factors related to pay, such as occupation; and (2) women have earned slightly higher rates of pay increases than men. In 2017, most of the overall pay gap—or 6 of 7 cents on the dollar—was not explained by differences between men and women in measurable factors (see figure). This unexplained portion of the pay gap may be due to factors not captured in the data GAO analyzed, such as work experience outside the federal government, or factors that cannot be measured, such as discrimination and individual choices. In 2017, the overall and unexplained gaps were greater for certain groups. For example, compared to White men, the unexplained gap was greater for Hispanic/Latina, Black, and American Indian or Alaska Native women than for White and Asian, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander women. Gender Composition of the Federal Workforce and Prior Research on the Gender Pay Gap for Federal Workers Over the last 20 years, the federal workforce has consistently included more men than women. For example, according to OPM’s EHRI data, men made up 55 percent of the federal workforce in 1999 and 57 percent in 2018. In 2018, of about 2.1 million federal workers captured in the EHRI data, approximately 1.2 million were men and nearly 926,000 were women. Although estimates of the exact size of the gender pay gap vary, the estimated pay gap between women and men in the federal workforce is smaller than the pay gap in the entire U.S. workforce, which includes the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors. In 2018, the pay gap for federal workers was about 12 cents on the dollar, and the pay gap for the entire workforce was about 18 cents on the dollar, according to self-reported data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey. Prior research has found that the gender pay gap for federal workers is partly explained by differences between men and women in measurable factors that affect pay, such as occupation, education, and experience. This is referred to as the explained pay gap. For example, in our 2009 report, we found that the pay gap was partly due to differences between men and women in the occupations they held, their levels of education, and how long they had worked for the federal government. We also identified other measurable factors that contributed to the explained gender pay gap, including race and ethnicity, federal agency, and veteran status. However, we found that a portion of the pay gap was not explained by differences between men and women in measurable factors that affect pay. This is referred to as the unexplained pay gap. Specifically, we found that 7 cents of the 11-cent pay gap in 2007 were unexplained after accounting for differences in measurable factors. Similarly, OPM found that about 4 cents of the 13-cent pay gap for white-collar federal workers in 2012 were not explained by measurable factors. The unexplained pay gap may be due to factors that are not captured in available data, such as work experience outside the federal government, or those that cannot be measured, such as discrimination and individual career choices. Furthermore, the explained pay gap could also be influenced by discrimination, to the extent that the measurable factors themselves are affected by discrimination.)

— RICKETTS & GOP RUMBLINGS; CABELLO SEEKS RECOUNT – Shia Kapos

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Todd Ricketts isn’t ruling out a run for governor, according to a source close to the Cubs co-owner. The revelation follows Tim Schneider’s announcement over the weekend that he is stepping down as state party chairman, prompting chatter that Ricketts, who is also chairman of the Republican National Committee’s finance committee, may be a possible — though unlikely — replacement. “Todd thinks Tim did a great job as state chair. As Todd is continuing as RNC Finance chairman, he will not be a candidate for state chair,” the source said, which leaves Ricketts’ options open for a statewide run. Schneider’s exit has prompted a flurry of interest — and name-dropping — about who might replace him, including: retiring Congressman John Shimkus, state Central Committeewomen Jan Weber or Barbara Viviano; Will County GOP Chairman George Pearson, a Black man with military, business and political experience; and Lake County Republican Party Chairman Mark Shaw, who also serves as state-party co-chairman. Schneider announced his exit during a virtual meeting of the Republican State Central Committee on Saturday. It caught some folks by surprise. But conservatives in the group pounced, wanting to name Shaw chairman. He wasn’t able to get enough votes and party leaders instead decided to make it an open search. Shaw is still expected to apply, though some in the Republican Party are concerned about his track record in Lake County. Democrats ousted GOP incumbents for state’s attorney and coroner last month, and they retained circuit court clerk and recorder seats. Democrats on the County Board also upped their majority from 12-9 to 15-6. The Tribune’s Rick Pearson describes Shaw as “a controversial figure” in GOP politics, for his shoot-from-the-hip tweets. Statewide, meanwhile, Republicans saw two big wins Nov. 3 with the defeat of Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s graduated income tax plan and stopping Supreme Court Justice Thomas Kilbride, a Democrat, from being retained. Now the party looks to capitalize on those victories and ramp up fundraising. It’s treating the hunt for a new chairman the way a company would conduct a CEO search. “We’ve pulled ourselves out of a dip and want to go into growth mode,” said one GOP source. The challenge the next chairman has isn’t any different than what Schneider has faced: managing the views of downstate Republicans vs. those in the northern part of the state. . .CABELLO seeks recount after loss: “State Rep. John Cabello is seeking a recount after the Republican’s narrow defeat to local attorney Dave Vella in the Nov. 3 election. Final election results in the race for the 68th District seat in the Illinois House of Representatives put Democratic challenger Vella 239 votes ahead after 53,301 were cast in Rockford and Winnebago County combined. Cabello on Friday filed paperwork with the Rockford Board of Elections asking for a recount in 10 Rockford precincts located inside six different wards,” by Rockford Register Star’s Jeff Kolkey.)

CRAIN’S CHICAGO BUSINESS
— A dogfight rocks the top of the Illinois GOP. And there’s more at stake than the chairmanship. – GREG HINZ
https://www.chicagobusiness.com/greg-hinz-politics/dogfight-rocks-top-illinois-gop
(FROM THE ARTICLE: According to party sources, Schneider, a former Cook County commissioner who was first made chairman by then-Gov. Bruce Rauner six years ago, has become tired of the unpaid job and particularly of clashes with central committee conservatives. He apparently wants to move on to private pursuits. At the weekend meeting, committee members went into closed executive session for more than three and a half hours, sources say, with conservative leader Mark Shaw, the Lake County chairman, coming within “one vote, maybe two” of winning the state post. Instead, a committee of two people from each side will try to work things out in coming weeks. How they will do that is not clear. Shaw didn’t return a phone call, and exactly what he would do differently than Schneider is not clear. But his style and that of his allies is reminiscent of how then-state Rep. Jeanne Ives almost toppled Rauner in the 2018 GOP primary with an in-your-face campaign during which she sharply underlined differences on abortion, gun rights, immigration and other matters. Revisiting that comes as the national GOP has been mostly mute over Trump’s unfounded claims that the election was “rigged” and must be overturned by Republican lawmakers. Notably among those castigating Trump for that and other stances is the only Republican congressman to represent part of the Chicago suburbs, Channahon’s Adam Kinzinger. Many in the party believe he’s trying to position himself to run for higher office—against Gov. J.B. Pritzker, or perhaps Sen. Tammy Duckworth, both up for re-election in 2022—and wants to build up some chits in what overall is a blue state. I suspect Kinzinger will keep a close eye on the chairmanship battle, the outcome of which could ease or complicate any effort by him to move up. The irony is that this battle—Shaw also ran for chairman two years ago—comes at a time when Republicans have some opportunity. Not only are Democrats divided over Madigan, but they just lost an Illinois Supreme Court seat and Pritzker faces only bad and worse fiscal choices in the wake of the defeat of his graduated income tax. Conservatives probably will argue the better path to success is not to rely on the business establishment, but to rev up their base. Perhaps. Meantime, we’ll see how nasty this fight gets. If it’s half as nasty as Trump’s exit plan, it will be a beaut.)

ILLINOIS REVIEW
— FIGHT OVER THE NEXT IL GOP CHAIRMAN REVS UP
https://www.illinoisreview.com/illinoisreview/2020/12/fight-over-who-the-next-il-gop-chairman-revs-up.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: So with all this to boast about, the Illinois Republican Party once again is at a crossroads: Do they follow the establishment elite, so-called “Pat Brady” path, or do they choose the path their conservative activist base has been begging for? According to the IL GOP’s press release, Schneider is stepping down after six years because he’s ready to do so. It appears he may be planning to stay around until a committee of four State Central Committee members he’s appointed find a replacement. Those committee members line up on two sides of the battle lines: Mike Bigger (18th CD) and long-time Jim Durkin staffer Judy Diekelman (2nd CD) on the “Pat Brady” party side and Char Foss-Eggeman (9th CD) and Fred Floreth (13th CD) more on the conservative base side. The former “Pat Brady” side of the equation line up with GOP powerhouses that endorsed and promoted John Kasich in the 2016 presidential bid and tend to promote “moderate” social views, Democrat tolerance and political career preservation. The conservative base has endured year after year of the Pat Brady mindset mocking them, telling them to get out of the party and take with them their conservative social views. Illinois Review will be working on getting responses from names we’ve heard are in the mix to succeed Schneider – including State Central Committeeman Mark Shaw, Mike Bigger on one side and names from the conservative side, including former State Rep. Jeanne Ives, former GOP IL Senate candidate Tom McCallagh, Cubs owner Todd Ricketts and businessman Gary Rabine.)

JEFF BERKOWITZ
— JANUARY 2005 FLASHBACK: During Chicago Left in Review’s episode a week before the Republican State Central Committee (“SCC”) election of a new Republican State GOP Chairman in Springfield on January 15, 2005 and during its shows that followed over the last two weeks after the election—the host and his panel chose to ignore the event. Not a mention– nothing, nada, zero, zip. The event attracted about 500 Republican activists, operatives, party functionaries, office holders and wannabees– including more than 150 County, Ward and Township Committeemen; State GOP Chairman candidates Andy McKenna, Jr., Steve McGlynn, Jim Oberweis, John Cox and Jim Nalepa. Andy McKenna, Jr., who is known for his father’s and perhaps his own fundraising prowess and business contacts and who ran in the Republican U. S. Senate Primary in 2004, garnering 14% and a 4th out of 7 candidates finish, won the State GOP chairmanship vote, primarily because of the backing of the Illinois Republican Party Finance Committee, i.e., in large part the Chicago Metropolitan Republican Business Interests and Donors. McGlynn, who had campaigned vigorously for the position, withdrew prior to the vote when he saw he could not get a majority of the SCC weighted vote. Nalepa, who drew acclaim and cheers from the assembled for his stirring speech, came in a very distant second to McKenna– who, in addition to the aforementioned money interests, had the New Republican Establishment behind him– Lahood-Kirk, for sure, and most likely Cross. Of course, the New Republican Establishment and money interests go together like ham and cheese.)

Next, I should write a book about IRP’s major donors since 2000. Next, I should write a book about the DCRCC and MTRO chairmen since 2000.)

HERALD NET
— GOP leader seeks recount in a precinct won by Trump and Culp Ballots cast for president, governor and a House seat in one neighborhood will be tallied again. – Jerry Cornfield (DIERSEN: According to the DuPage County Election Division, 449, or 86% of the 522 registered voters in my precinct voted, the 7th highest percentage of the 130 precincts in DuPage County’s Milton Township. But my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes will stress that only 157 (36%) voted for Trump, only 193 (43%) voted for Curran, only 186 (42%) voted for Ives, only 219 (51%) voted for Grant, only 330 (100%) voted for Berlin, only 229 (54%) voted for Kachiroubas, only 236 (55%) voted for Grogan, only 243 (57%) voted for Jorgensen, only 216 (51%) voted for Youngberg, only 229 (54%) voted for Elliott, only 228 (53%) voted for Whelan, only 227 (54%) voted for Felice, only 231 (55%) voted for Walsh, only 226 (54%) voted for O’Toole, and only 221 (52%) voted for McCluskey. Of course, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes will hint/imply/argue/shout that the aforesaid candidates would have gotten many more votes if the Republican Precinct Committeeman had been a) someone who they manipulated/dominated; b) someone who was minority, female, younger, veteran, moderate, liberal, LGBTQer, drinker, gambler, stoner, dog owner, attractive/handsome, non-overweight, non-diabetic, non-married, non-Protestant, non-German American, non-Trump supporter, non-gun owner, non-draft avoider, non-retired federal employee, and/or if their ancestors had not been in America for a long time; c) someone who rejected the traditional family, right to life, immigration, Second Amendment, illegal drugs, and/or equal opportunity (no race or gender based preference giving) planks in the Republican Party platform; and/or d) someone who was promoted by the Milton Township Republican Organization, DuPage County Republican Central Committee, and/or Illinois Republican Party.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Roulstone chose the Cassidy precinct north of Lake Stevens and east of Highway 9. Lake Cassidy is within its boundaries. In the Nov. 3 election, it had 654 registered voters, of whom 577 cast a ballot, according to results compiled by the county Auditor’s Office. Its voters strongly favored GOP candidates. Republican President Donald Trump won the precinct handily. He got 315 votes while Democratic candidate Joe Biden, now president-elect, received 234. Other presidential hopefuls garnered the remaining votes. In the gubernatorial contest, Republican Loren Culp performed even better, receiving 356 votes to incumbent Democratic Gov. Jay Inslee’s 211. The third recount is in the contest between Democrat April Berg and Republican Mark James for the seat now held by Rep. Jared Mead, D-Mill Creek. Mead did not seek re-election as he now serves on the Snohomish County Council. Berg won the election handily and will take office in January. But James won this precinct with 348 votes to her 193. Election workers pulled ballots for the precinct Thursday and Friday with a goal of getting under way Monday, said county Auditor Garth Fell. Roulstone must pay for the recounts, which he said will wind up costing around $3,500. This is not the first time he’s sought a limited recount. In 2018, he ran against state Sen. Steve Hobbs, D-Lake Stevens, in the 44th District and lost. Afterward, he requested votes be tallied again in two precincts.)

— Getting Into Paid Journalism – Robert Macilraith (DIERSEN: According to my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes, you are not a journalist unless you are paid for what you do as a journalist. They stress that I am not paid for what do as your GOPUSA Illinois Editor. In my defense, I do not “need money.” He who pays the piper calls the tunes. I do not want any individual, organization, company, government, of country to call my tunes. I have enough time and money to put a GOPUSA ILLINOIS email together and send it out each and every morning and each and every evening.)
