Under state law, the township has 60 days from his swearing-in to seat the 708 board. Monino said he hopes to make the first mental health board appointments at a township trustee meeting in June. The panel could include doctors, parents, and representatives of schools or social service agencies. “We will do everything in the township to support and grow that and outreach,” Monino said. Township trustees also will get the final say on the amount residents would pay in additional taxes each year. But the request that was approved by voters caps the tax levy for the mental health board at 0.15% of the assessed value of taxable property. When asked about the tax increase, Monino said the levy is “not going to be touching at that top end” of the cap. In 1986, the GAO manager who had hired me finally succeeded in getting me assigned to audits of IRS and promoting me to GS-13. But my Democrat GAO superiors succeeded in forcing him to retire in 1987, and starting in 1989, they succeeded in keeping me off audits of IRS for the rest of GAO career. In 1997, when I was 49 years old, they succeeded in forcing me to take their early retirement “offer.”)

Further, potential employers were under tremendous pressure to hire minorities, females, and veterans. Further, I had been a government employee 1966-1969. I took the only job offer that I received; to be the Retail Sales Manager in the Chicago Heights Firestone Store. The job did not really require a college degree. Constructively, I served as the store’s salesman. Firestone’s district office hired me; the store’s manager would never have hired me. He disapproved of my avoiding the draft, my being a college graduate, my being Missouri Synod Lutheran, and my being 100% German American. He refused to let me start until I passed a 2-week probationary period working in Firestone’s Gary store. He rudely fired me when I gave him my 2-week notice in early 1971. I had accepted a job offer from Oldsmobile. But Oldsmobile withdrew that job offer saying that it had just agreed to stop hiring Whites to settle an EEOC complaint. The aforesaid directly resulted in my accepting a job offer from IRS.)

Workers who come from lower social-class origins in the United States are 32 percent less likely to become managers than those who come from higher social-class origins. This, it turns out, is a worldwide phenomenon, with social class disadvantage prevailing in every major economy in the world. Reading this is both not a surprise, but also struck me for the novelty. Why isn’t the conversation about class more prevalent when we consider diversity in the workplace? ED: That’s a big question, and I’m not sure there’s one answer. It is true that while companies have a number of employee resource groups, very few (only Uber, according to the research of the author) explicitly has an employee resource group based on social class. The conversation can, perhaps, feel stigmatizing.
