County could become the first local government in Illinois to ban the sale of
marijuana under legislation that permits recreational use of cannabis statewide
effective Jan. 1 but includes an “opt out” provision for local communities. In
mid-May, while the measure was still under debate in Springfield but before it
passed, Clark County Board member Jim Bolin raised the issue of a local
prohibition and said he would have an appropriate resolution prepared. Bolin
was out of the country last week and not available for comment. County Clerk
Laura Lee said no resolution is available for review yet but the matter is on
the agenda for the board’s next meeting, which will be at 8 a.m. Friday. Any
ban imposed by the board would apply only in unincorporated areas of the
county, covering about 48 percent of the total population of about 16,000. It
would also apply only to the sale of marijuana and not its use.)

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— UPDATE: The proposed Starbucks at the southeast corner of Roosevelt Road and
Warrenville Road in my Wheaton precinct is off. I spoke with the property’s
owner Ron Dell this afternoon. He said he was going to attend the Wheaton City
Counsel Planning Session yesterday evening, but a major delay at O’Hare Airport
prevented him from doing that. He said that Starbucks withdrew its proposal 2
weeks ago. Also, Wheaton has posted a video of the session at: https://www.wheaton.il.us/AgendaCenter –
Dave Diersen http://www.gopillinois.com (MY ARTICLE THIS
MORNING: About 120 Wheaton residents attended a 2 1/2 hour Wheaton City Council
Planning Session Tuesday evening, May 28, 2019. 28 of those 120 voiced their
concerns about Wheaton’s East Roosevelt Road Corridor Market
Study/Comprehensive Plan Amendment. 13 of those 28 are registered voters in my
precinct. Most of the comments concerned the impact that proposed changes would
have on homeowners immediately south and north of Roosevelt Road, traffic
congestion, affordable housing, public housing, the proposed Starbucks at the
southeast corner of Roosevelt Road and Warrenville Road, flooding, the school
crossing at Warrenville Road and Park Avenue, protecting historic buildings on
Roosevelt Road, and Wheaton not individually notifying homeowners immediately
north and south of Roosevelt Road of the session. My precinct includes the
south side of Roosevelt Road between Carlton and Main Streets. For more information
on the market study and plan amendment, SEE: https://www.wheaton.il.us/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Agenda/_05282019-1184. I
included a link to the notice of the session in my May 26, 2019 GOPUSA ILLINOIS
evening edition email (https://gopillinois.com/uncategorized/may-26-evening-edition-3/).
I included link to an online petition against the market study and plan
amendment (https://www.thepetitionsite.com/981/324/570/stop-the-roosevelt-road-corridor-redevelopment-plan/)
in my May 23, 2019 GOPUSA ILLINOIS evening edition email (https://gopillinois.com/uncategorized/may-23-evening-edition-3/).
I included my comment that “A Starbucks is planned for the southeast corner of
Roosevelt Road and Warrenville Road in my precinct” in my March 10, 2019 GOPUSA
ILLINOIS morning edition email (https://gopillinois.com/uncategorized/march-10-morning-edition-4/).
Sadly, many of those in my precinct who oppose the market study and plan
amendment automatically assume that I completely support the market study and
plan amendment a) because I am a conservative Republican Precinct Committeeman
who supports Trump and b) because Ron Dell, the owner of the property at the
southeast corner of Roosevelt and Warrenville, has allowed me to display 4X4
“Vote Republican’ signs on his building prior to elections for many years.
Consequently, many of those in my precinct who oppose the market study and plan
amendment have kept me “out of the loop” to put it politely. My
critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always discouraged
voters in my precinct from reading my GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails. I look forward to
reading the minutes of the session and watching the video of the session when
they are posted on the city’s website.)
