NEW YORK TIMES
— Missing From Elizabeth Warren’s 2020 Surge: Democratic Endorsements Despite Ms. Warren’s upward momentum in polls and fund-raising, she lacks the support of a single governor, big-city mayor or fellow senator outside Massachusetts. – Jonathan Martin (DIERSEN: An obvious question is which of those who endorsed Sanguinetti will now endorse Ives or Kinzler. An obvious question is will Sanguinetti endorse Ives or Kinzler. Jim Ryan supporters continue to blame Pat O’Malley supporters Ryan’s losing to Blagojevich in 2002.)

JOURNAL STANDARD
— FROM THE MAY 11, 2013 ARTICLE: “In 2002, Sen. Pat O’Malley staged a vicious primary campaign for governor against eventual GOP nominee Jim Ryan, who was the attorney general. Conservative O’Malley refused to endorse the more moderate Ryan in the general election campaign, and Ryan was beaten by Democrat Rod Blagojevich, who is doing time in a federal penitentiary on a corruption conviction. “If O’Malley hadn’t attacked Ryan so viciously in the primary, Ryan could have made up the five points by which he lost and Illinois would have looked much different today,” Syverson said.”

ALTON DAILY NEWS
— Challenges Anticipated with Legal Weed – Doug Jenkins (DIERSEN: QUESTIONS TO ASK CANDIDATES: Have you ever used recreational weed? If so, exactly when and exactly how much? If so, why did you disrespect the rule of law? Are you going to use recreational weed when it is legal? If so, exactly how often and exactly how much? What do you say to people who impair themselves? Have you ever driven a vehicle while you were dunk or incapacitated? If so, exactly when? If so, why did you disrespect the rule of law? What do you say to people who impair themselves?)
http://altondailynews.com/news/details.cfm?clientid=17&id=292314#.XaRSrL5_OM8
(FROM THE ARTICLE: While there are established, accepted and legally binding blood alcohol levels when determining when someone is drunk or incapacitated, no such tests exist to see if you are high on marijuana. With recreational weed becoming legal in Illinois next year, that has employers trying to figure out policy on how to address its use. A spokesman from OSF Healthcare outlines some of the challenges. Troy Overholt, Vice President for Occupational Health at OSF HealthCare admits to employers that while it may be risky and has yet to be challenged in court, monitoring for marijuana impairment in an employee may need to be less scientific and more observational. There is no scientifically reliable way to measure for marijuana intoxication. THC is stored in fat cells, so the length of time it’s in your system is not a blood test level. So, he says you could test high today from use weeks or months ago, and it depends greatly on frequency and the amount of use.)

— Women still get fired for being pregnant, as Elizabeth Warren says she was in 1971 Walmart, UPS and other major employers have faced charges of mistreating pregnant workers – Leslie Albrecht (DIERSEN: In 1971, when I was 22 years old, Firestone Stores fired me because I accepted a job offer from Oldsmobile. But Oldsmobile withdrew that job offer saying that it had just agreed to stop hiring Whites to settle an EEOC complaint. Of course, to force an employee to retire is to fire that employee. In 1997, when I was 49 years old, my Democrat GAO superiors forced me retire, that is, they fired me. They fired me a) because I was an active member in a class action lawsuit that charged them with reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation, b) because I had complained about political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation, c) because I refused to help them get rid of their employees who were Republican White, male, and/or non-veteran because they had not made GS-13 (currently $98,198) by age 25, GS-14 (currently $116,040) by age 30, GS-15 (currently $136,495) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service (currently $165,500) by age 40, and d) because many of my superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates despised many of my demographics including my being Republican, Protestant, conservative, patriotic, White, male, older, non-poor, gun owner, 100% German American, draft avoider, and my ancestors have been in America since 1844.)

https://www.dailyherald.com/news/20190901/suburban-school-administrators-bracing-for-legal-marijuanas-impacts
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Students won’t be allowed to use marijuana when adult recreational use begins Jan. 1, but school leaders anticipate legalization bringing a cascade of effects in the educational realm. The need for prevention education will increase. The difficulty of determining intoxication among students and staff members will rise. The use restrictions imposed on employees will need clarification. And the regulations that come with federal funding could create conflicts. These are the chief concerns raised by educational leaders across the suburbs as they start a school year during which recreational marijuana use by adults 21 and older is set to begin under the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act. Elgin Unit District U-46 CEO Tony Sanders raised many of these points in a paper he wrote for a doctoral degree he is pursuing from Aurora University. He advises vigilance to prevent increased marijuana prevalence. “Students already have access, somehow, to illegal marijuana,” Sanders said. “I think this (law) makes it more open for students to gain access to marijuana, and I do worry about that.” Vigilance against marijuana in schools could mean posting signs to remind the public of smoke-free and drug-free regulations, which U-46 plans to do, Sanders said. Or it could mean using health class lessons to emphasize the negative implications of marijuana use by teens, which is in the plans for Glenbard High School District 87, among others. Whatever districts do to prepare for adult marijuana use, they should work to create a “culture of nonuse” among students, said Cristina Cortesi, substance abuse prevention coordinator at Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire. “Unfortunately, when a substance is legalized, it creates greater accessibility and it creates greater norms of use,” Cortesi said. “When policy is not in our favor in terms of preventing substance abuse, it’s just a harder road ahead.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Kirkwood said he recently purchased Long Sing Restaurant, a Waukegan restaurant that has five video gambling machines. The purchase made Kirkwood a liquor license holder in the city of Waukegan, which means under state law, he must abstain from any votes on liquor-related issues, city attorney Bob Long said. State law previously outright banned all local elected officials from holding liquor licenses. Former aldermanic candidate Jack Dye, who ran unsuccessfully for alderman in the 6th War and had raised the issue in a Facebook post, said he would hope Kirkwood would also abstain from all votes related to gambling. He also pointed to the level of campaign spending tied to gambling interests in the last election.)

But if they choose to allow sales, the proposed ordinances would have to go through the zoning process, which includes giving adequate notice to residents, holding a public hearing before the plan commission and additional approvals at the committee and city council levels. “Effectively, things need to be done by mid-November,” Koenen said. “It takes time to do it right.” Monday’s discussion is expected to take place during the government operations committee meeting, which is held after the 7 p.m. city council meeting at 2 E. Ever-increasingly, they do everything that they can a) to stop me from putting GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails together and sending them out and b) to stop everyone from reading those emails. At the Milton Township Republican Central Committee Wednesday evening, August 14, 2019, at the Carol Stream Holiday Inn, after two of their nasty threatening operatives falsely charged me with harassing Carol Stream Holiday Inn employees, one of them in front of an extremely credible witness said that he was going to stop everyone from reading GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails.)

— Rasmussen: New Poll Shows Voters Trust Political News About As Much As They Trust Wikipedia – Tim Hains (DIERSEN: No one should trust journalsts who deny that they have an agenda. I have an agenda. It is to defend and promote conservative and Republican principles.)
https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2019/08/18/rasmussen_new_poll_shows_voters_trust_national_political_media_about_the_same_as_they_trust_wikipedia.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Sunday on “Full Measure,” host Sharyl Attkisson discussed a new poll showing a plurality of Americans think political media is more biased than it was five years ago. She talks with pollster Scott Rasmussen, who said: “We asked about national political reporters, are they credible, are they reliable? And you know, a little more than one out of three people say yes. When we ask about Wikipedia, we get the exact same answer. So what’s happening is we have a world where people look at journalists like they look at Wikipedia. Gee, that’s an interesting fact. I better check it myself.” “The media has a huge credibility problem and it’s always had the problem,” he explained. “Oh, we talk about it differently today. Now we talk about it as a political bias. I think the issues have always been there. I mean, people were complaining about the bias of Walter Cronkite back in the 1960s.” He continued: “78% of voters say that what reporters do with political news is promote their agenda. They think they use incidents as props for their agenda rather than seeking accurately record what happened. Only 14% think that a journalist is actually reporting what happened… If a reporter found out something that would hurt their favorite candidate, only 36% of voters think that they would report that. “So voters are looking at them as a political activist, not as a source of information,” he concluded.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: A federal survey shows nearly 67 million Americans binge drink at least monthly, meaning women down four drinks during a single occasion, men five. Midwestern states have some of the highest binge-drinking rates in terms of both prevalence and intensity, putting millions of people at risk. Research links excessive alcohol use to fatty liver, cirrhosis and cancers of the breast, liver, colon, mouth and throat as well as heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, dementia, anxiety and depression. Nearly half of murders involve alcohol, according to studies. Drinking kills about 88,000 people annually, according to the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington. Such diseases and social ills cost the nation an estimated $249 billion a year. Even one drink a day is unhealthy, said Dr. Sarah Hartz, an assistant professor of psychiatry at Washington University in St. Louis. “If you’re going to drink, know it’s not good for you.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Simi Valley City Council member Ruth Luevanos is now facing possible recall and censure stemming from a controversial video she made in her City Hall office advising immigrants of their legal rights prior to recent ICE raids. During public comments at Monday night’s council meeting, Simi resident Joe Piechowski said he was there to serve Luevanos with a notice of intention to circulate a recall petition. TOWN COURIER
— City Councilman Robert Wu Seeks Second Term – Ellyn Wexler
http://towncourier.com/city-councilman-robert-wu-seeks-second-term/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Many of the skills Wu has honed during his day job—as senior attorney at the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO)—have helped him become effective in his City of Gaithersburg position. “I often find myself in the role of interpreting ordinances, parsing out legalese when amendments to existing language are proposed, and, at least in one instance, actually drafting an ordinance,” he said. “At GAO,” Wu explained, “I serve in a quasi-judicial role, adjudicating bid protests filed with our office. The skillset is very similar to that used in deciding matters brought before the city council, including fairmindedness, the ability to absorb large records and ultimately render a decision.” “A firm belief that process matters” also factors into both jobs. “As companies who file protests with GAO understand, while we might not necessarily agree with them in the end, each argument raised is heard and carefully considered,” Wu said. “The same goes for my work at city council. Each individual who takes their valuable time to appear before us or submit written matters has to know that their views have been heard and seriously considered.”)

(FROM THE POSTING: Negative campaigning or mudslinging is the process of deliberate spreading negative information about someone or something to worsen the public image of the described. Deliberate spreading of such information can be motivated either by honest desire of the campaigner to warn others against real dangers or deficiencies of the described, or by the campaigner’s dishonest ideas on methods of winning in political, business or other spheres of competition against an honest rival. The public image of an entity can be defined as reputation, esteem, respect, acceptance of the entity’s appearance, values and behavior by the general public of a given territory and/or a social group, possibly within time limits. As target groups of public and their values differ, so negativity or positivity of a public image is relative; thus, to be successful, negative campaigning has to take into account current values of the group it addresses. The degree of strictness in practicing the group’s values as opposed to its tolerance for violating the norms has also to be taken into consideration.)

Certainly, on Wednesday, when U.S. House Speaker NANCY PELOSI spoke at the Crowne Plaza to the Illinois Democratic County Chairs’ Association brunch, it fit that script. And Thursday is GOP Day at the fair. But freshman Democratic Gov. J.B. Well, House GOP Leader JIM DURKIN, R-Western Springs, said he never got an invitation, and ELENI DEMERTZIS, his spokeswoman, said some others in the caucus she checked with didn’t receive invitations either. . .Durkin said had he received the invitation, he probably would have attended.)

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— Past and present candidates and elected officials who spoke at the Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) meeting Wednesday evening, August 14, 2019, at the Holiday Inn in Carol Stream included Almiron, Corrigan, Diersen, Eckhoff, Fitch, Grant, Heidorn, Holder, Ives, Kachiroubas, Keller, Kinzler, Krzyzewski, Larsen, McCluskey, McGowen, Monino, Seppelfrick, Walsh, and Whelan. Meeting attendees included Baker, Bohn, Carlson, Caruso, Cooper, Crane, Davis, Falbo, Fitzpatrick, Grant, Henry, Holan, A & R. Jorgensen, Kachiroubas, Krzyzewski, Larsen, LeVan, Lofgren, Lollino, McCarthy, McNeily, Muehlfelt, Nathwani, Rash, Ryan, Shaw, Smith, Tatro, Veenstra, and Zaruba. Judge McCluskey announced his candidacy for the upcoming Judge George J. Bakalis vacancy. Larsen reported on what DuPage County is doing concerning the pot issue. Fitch reported on what Wheaton is doing concerning the West District City Council vacancy and the pot issue. Sadly, its seems like the majority of Republican Precinct Committeemen in Wheaton’s West District are not interested in getting together and gathering information on the West District candidates, hosting a candidate forum, or recommending any of the 10 candidates who have applied to be appointed to fill the vacancy. Sadly, it seems like the majority of Milton Township Republican Precinct Committeemen are not interested in getting together and urging DuPage County, Wheaton, or Glen Ellyn to ban the sale of pot. Sadly, it seems like the majority of Milton Township Republican Precinct Committeemen side with my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes. They blame me for their problems, for your problems, for my problems, and for everyone’s problems. They support those who slander and threaten me at MTRCC meetings. They support those who focus on a) stopping me from putting GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails together and sending them out and b) stopping everyone from reading those emails. They support those who discourage Republican candidates, elected officials, and organizations from helping sponsor Wheaton’s Independence Day fireworks and parades. — OUTSTANDING: Bolingbrook board was blunt — no cannabis businesses in village – ALEX ORTIZ
https://www.theherald-news.com/2019/08/14/bolingbrook-board-was-blunt-no-cannabis-businesses-in-village/av0vrpj/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The village of Bolingbrook Board of Trustees voted Tuesday night to prohibit cannabis business establishments within its boundaries. The trustees voted 5-1 in favor of the prohibition. Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar said he was in favor of prohibiting cannabis businesses in the village and decried how the state government passed the legislation to legalize it. “I philosophically have a real problem with governments which have turned to drugs and gambling to balance their budgets,” he said. “That’s what the state’s come to.” The village’s ordinance cited the state’s Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act, which allows municipalities to prohibit adult-use cannabis business establishments. Ken Teppel, the village’s public safety director, spoke about the Bolingbrook Police Department’s opposition to allowing cannabis businesses in town. He also talked about the challenges posed to police departments in other states that have already legalized recreational cannabis use, like Colorado. For example, Teppel said cannabis businesses have been targets for theft because they deal solely in cash to be in compliance with federal banking laws. He added that, for police, it’s more difficult to investigate such crimes without a paper trail. He also talked about other problems like black markets developing around legal dispensaries, the high potency of the drug nowadays, potential dangers with flammable materials used to grow the plant, and trying to develop a test for impaired drivers who have used the drug. During public comments, the opinions among the handful of residents who spoke were mixed. Trustee Bob Jaskiewicz was the only “no” vote. He said it was a mistake to not have a public hearing before holding a vote on the prohibition. “I want us to consider other points as to why a dispensary would be a good thing,” Jaskiewicz said. Claar told Jaskiewicz to take up the issue with state legislators because, unlike other states, which held a referendum, Illinois “chose to ignore the public” and didn’t ask voters. Claar said lawmakers were already discussing a possible trailer bill to clarify and fix issues with the initial law that passed. The mayor also made sure to emphasize that the ordinance was only prohibiting commercial businesses selling cannabis and not recreational use of the drug. Trustee Mary Alexander Basta made the point that the ordinance could be revised in the future. Recreational cannabis use and possession will be legal in Illinois starting Jan. 1, 2020.)

— Recreational Pot Up For Discussion In Glen Ellyn August 19 Do you think recreational marijuana should be sold in Glen Ellyn? – Lisa Marie Farver (DIERSEN: The Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) should pass a resolution against the sale of pot in Milton Township and in the rest of DuPage County like it passed a resolution against video gambling in 2009. Republican Precinct Committeemen in Glen Ellyn should attend Glen Ellyn’s meeting on August 19 and Republican Precinct Committeemen in Wheaton should attend Wheaton’s meeting on August 26. They should call for banning the sale of pot in their municipalities. Past and present MTRCC officers should attend the aforesaid meetings and call for banning the sale of pot. At previous Wheaton City Council meetings, Bob Cherry, B. J. Slinger, Tim Whelan, and I have called for Wheaton to ban the sale of pot. August 14 Morning Edition

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— The August Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) monthly meeting is this evening at the Holiday Inn in Carol Stream. The social hour starts at 6:00 PM and the meeting starts at 7:00 PM. SEE: http://dupagegop.org/calendar-3/

I will be signing in as a candidate. I am a candidate to be appointed to fill Wheaton’s West District City Council vacancy. The other six Republican candidates are Edward Ahern, Jeffery Antonelli, Angela Blatner, Nancy Harding, Mark Kmeicik, and Robert McNeily.

Hopefully, all of the aforesaid seven candidates will a) attend meeting, b) announce their candidacies, c) and seek the support of the eighteen Republican Precinct Committeemen who represent Wheaton’s West District. Those eighteen Precinct Committeemen are Joseph Caruso, Dave Diersen, Thomas Elsner, Arthur Grant, Ralph Hinkle, Marty Keller, John Kocinski, Robert Krzyzewski, Michael Hinsdale, Jae Kwon, Robert Larsen, Connor McCarthy, Robert McNeily, Ronald Menna, Elizabeth Tatro, James Ryan, Mark Thomas, and Herbert Wehling.

Hopefully, MTRCC will gather relevant information about the aforesaid seven candidates, provide that information to the aforesaid eighteen Precinct Committeemen, and host a candidate forum. The goal of providing information on the candidates and hosting a candidate forum is to help the aforesaid eighteen Precinct Committeemen recommend to Wheaton’s City Council the best possible candidate to be appointed to fill the Wheaton West District City Council vacancy.

In my opinion, the following information about all 10 candidates should be disclosed: How long they have lived in Wheaton, how long they have lived in Wheaton’s West District, their work experience, their education, their professional certifications and licenses, their memberships in professional associations, why they want to be appointed to fill the vacancy, what they believe the three most important issues are that Wheaton needs to address in the next 2 years and how those issues those issues should be addressed, their political affiliation and activities, their civic activities, if they would vote for or against banning the sale of pot in Wheaton, what their position is on Wheaton’s Roosevelt Road corridor, if they would vote for or against requiring employers in Wheaton to use E-Verify, and what they have done that demonstrates they can carry out typical city council functions. In my opinion, Republican Precinct Committeemen in Wheaton’s West District should have the above information.

At Wheaton’s City Council meeting on Monday, August 19, 2019, its members will go into executive session to deliberate on the 10 candidates who have applied. Because, in that session, they will be reviewing the documents that the 10 candidates have submitted, Wheaton has denied my FOIA request for those documents.

According to MTRCC’s bylaws (http://www.miltongop.org/about-mtrcc/by-laws), “When a position within Milton Township is declared vacant, the MTRCC shall meet within forty (40) days of the declaration of vacancy to recommend an individual to fill such vacancy. The recommendation shall be decided at a convention of the Organization by a majority vote of the Organization through a written ballot.” It would be great if MTRCC would host a candidate forum for the aforesaid seven Republican candidates.” I urge MTRCC to do the aforesaid concerning Wheaton’s West District City Council vacancy.

Many Republican candidates, elected officials, and party leaders routinely attend MTRCC meetings. I hope that the following will attend MTRCC’s August 14 meeting and a candidate forum if one is held: a) Wheaton’s mayor and City Council members, b) 6th Congressional District candidates Jeanne Ives and Evelyn Sanguinetti; c) DuPage County Recorder candidates Ron Almiron and Babette Holder; d) Illinois officials including Amy Grant; e) DuPage County officials including Robert Berlin, Fred Bucholz, Daniel Cronin, Pete DiCianni, Grant Eckhoff, Timothy Elliott, Robert Grogan, Gwen Henry, Richard Jorgensen, Christopher Kachiroubas, Robert Larsen, Paula McGowen, James Mendrick, Al Murphy, Sean Noonan, Jeffrey Redick, Darlene Ruscitti, Timothy Whelan, and Jim Zay; f) Milton Township officials including Sal Falbo, Chris Heidorn, Gail Hinkle, Marty Keller, Chris LeVan, Gary Muehlfelt, David Molitor, John Monino, and Yada Nathwani; g) Wheaton Park District officials including Michael Benard; h) School District 200 officials; and i) College of DuPage officials including Annette Corrigan, Christine Fenne, Heidi Holan, and Frank Napolitano.

It will be extremely interesting to see which of the seven candidates are endorsed by which of the aforesaid candidates, elected officials, and party leaders, and especially which candidates Ives and Sanguinetti might endorse because they both have served on Wheaton’s City Council.

Further, I will be asking a) Susan Fitch, Chris Zaruba, and other Wheaton City Council members who attend the meeting to brief the meeting’s attendees on actions being taken to ban the sale of pot in Wheaton and b) Grant Eckhoff, Tim Elliott, Bob Larsen, Jim Zay, and other DuPage County Board members who attend the meeting to brief the meeting’s attendees on actions being taken to ban the sale of pot in DuPage County’s unincorporated areas.
