https://sentinelcolorado.com/news/metro/aurora-city-council-approves-new-ethics-law-opposes-lobbying-registration/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Despite taking other legislative steps toward greater transparency, a majority of Aurora City Council members decided against an ordinance mandating lobbyists register with the city if working in Aurora. Council members Bob Roth, Johnny Watson, Marsha Berzins, Francoise Bergan, Charlie Richardson and mayor Bob LeGare opposed the proposed ordinance. At-large councilwoman Angela Lawson, who also works for the Colorado Secretary of State’s office, first introduced the idea to a city policy committee in October. LeGare said he didn’t believe the ordinance was ready, but council member Nicole Johnston rebutted that claim citing Lawson’s past year of work. None of the other council members who voted against the measure — all of which are running for re-election — gave a reason for their vote. The registration wouldn’t have limited or penalized lobbyists or city officials for interacting with each other. It would instruct lobbyists to file quarterly reports about their lobbying efforts, however. Those reporters would disclose “any expenditure over $75 directly benefiting a covered official,” according to city documents. “This does not prohibit expenditures over $75, it only requires reporting.” Several city council members cited concerns of who would qualify as a lobbyist and whether non-profit organizations attempting to seek influence on the city council would be required to register under the proposed rules. Under the ordinance, lobbyists were defined to be “any individual, including an attorney, who is self-employed or is employed or otherwise retained by any other person or organization: (1) For the purpose of engaging in lobbying; or (2) Whose scope of work requires him or her to lobby from time to time time.” During the meeting, the body unanimously gave a final approval to a new ethics code for elected city officials. The now-approved ordinance is the result of two different proposals from several city council members who sought stronger ethics rules for elected officials of the city. It tasks an independent panel of judges with investigating ethical complaints, prohibits the mayor and city council members from accepting gifts valued more than $300, and prevents council members from engaging in conflicts of interest.)

I should sue them.)
https://floridapolitics.com/archives/304284-house-dismisses-complaint-hammer
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Florida House dismissed a complaint against National Rifle Association (NRA) lobbyist Marion Hammer that had alleged Hammer failed to properly report lobbying compensation. Democratic state Rep. Anna Eskamani filed the complaint in the House. A similar complaint in the Senate, filed by Sen. Perry Thurston, went nowhere. GOP state Rep. Tom Leek, who chairs the House Public Integrity and Ethics Committee, did note Hammer had run afoul of Joint Rule 1.4 of the Legislature. That rule requires disclosure of compensation from lobbying firms: “Unified Sportsmen of Florida (USF) is a lobbying firm and fail(ed) to file compensation reports for the NRA fees received.” But he said Hammer took appropriate action to avoid sanction, and determined “the complaint does not state facts supporting a finding of probable cause.” “You have taken the appropriate corrective action, and consistent with Joint Rule 1.5 and past practices, no further penalty will be imposed,” the Ormond Beach attorney said in a letter explaining the findings. In a statement, Hammer said she was “very pleased that the House complaint has also been dismissed.” She added: “I have been a registered lobbyist since 1974 … I have never told anyone EVER that I am not a lobbyist. Since the filings for Unified Sportsmen of Florida are really a non-issue, we would have filed from the beginning had we not been advised to the contrary. “When you seek and rely upon legal advice, you do so in good faith. That’s exactly what we did. We now have a different legal opinion and USF has fully complied based on the new information and advice.”)

— JUNE 29, 2018 FLASHBACK: What Are the Requirements Necessary to Become a Journalist? – Maria Christensen (DIERSEN: To slander me as someone who falsely claims to be a journalist, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes who promote vices hint/imply/argue/shout a) that I do not have a degree in journalist like the Daily Herald’s Robert Sanchez (https://www.dailyherald.com/newsroom/RobertSanchez/) and b) that I am not paid for what I do like the Daily Herald pays Robert Sanchez. I have served as the GOPUSA Illinois Editor since 2000. I worked for GAO as an Analyst for almost 18 years, the last 11 years of which at the GS-13 Step 1-10 levels, currently $98,198-$127,654/year. What GAO Analysts do (https://www.gao.gov/about/careers/career-paths/) is extremely similar to what journalists do. In addition, I became a Forensic Accountant in 1997, Certified Financial Services Auditor in 1996, Certified Government Financial Manager in 1994, Certified Fraud Examiner in 1990, Licensed CPA in 1981, Certified Internal Auditor in 1981, and CPA in 1979.)
https://work.chron.com/requirements-necessary-become-journalist-12514.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Educational Requirements A bachelor’s degree is necessary in this competitive profession. Journalism or communications should be your major, but it’s a also good idea to minor in a specialized subject, such as political science or economics. A broad liberal arts background is required for a journalism degree, and many journalism programs require a concentration, such as electronic news or public affairs reporting, but a minor degree can give you an edge over other job seekers. For example, a journalism degree with a concentration in environmental reporting, along with a minor in a physical science, can prepare you well for science reporting. Gaining Experience You need some experience to get a job as a journalist, but you don’t necessarily need a job to get experience. Many employers won’t even look at your resume unless you have an internship listed. Your school career center can help you find internships and you can list them on your resume. Even if you intend to be a broadcast journalist, it’s a good idea to have a portfolio of writing clips to demonstrate you understand how to report on the news. Join your college newspaper staff and look for summer employment with small, local newspapers, television or radio stations. Try freelance writing for online publications or local media outlets.)

The purchase made Kirkwood a liquor license holder in the city of Waukegan, which means under state law, he must abstain from any votes on liquor-related issues, city attorney Bob Long said. State law previously outright banned all local elected officials from holding liquor licenses. — Rasmussen: New Poll Shows Voters Trust Political News About As Much As They Trust Wikipedia – Tim Hains (DIERSEN: No one should trust journalsts who deny that they have an agenda. I have an agenda. It is to defend and promote conservative and Republican principles.)
https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2019/08/18/rasmussen_new_poll_shows_voters_trust_national_political_media_about_the_same_as_they_trust_wikipedia.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Sunday on “Full Measure,” host Sharyl Attkisson discussed a new poll showing a plurality of Americans think political media is more biased than it was five years ago. She talks with pollster Scott Rasmussen, who said: “We asked about national political reporters, are they credible, are they reliable? And you know, a little more than one out of three people say yes. When we ask about Wikipedia, we get the exact same answer. So what’s happening is we have a world where people look at journalists like they look at Wikipedia. Gee, that’s an interesting fact. I better check it myself.” “The media has a huge credibility problem and it’s always had the problem,” he explained. “Oh, we talk about it differently today. Now we talk about it as a political bias. I think the issues have always been there. I mean, people were complaining about the bias of Walter Cronkite back in the 1960s.” He continued: “78% of voters say that what reporters do with political news is promote their agenda. They think they use incidents as props for their agenda rather than seeking accurately record what happened. Only 14% think that a journalist is actually reporting what happened… If a reporter found out something that would hurt their favorite candidate, only 36% of voters think that they would report that. “So voters are looking at them as a political activist, not as a source of information,” he concluded.)

I am considering publishing cease and desist letters against those MTRCC members. Maybe I should just sue them.)

Try going to one of his rallies and, instead of turning up your nose at the Walmart people, listen and learn. The abuse of President Trump and his supporters that passes for analysis from his opponents is a strategic error. The more abuse, the more Trump’s base is energized to turn out on Election Day.)

Certainly, on Wednesday, when U.S. House Speaker NANCY PELOSI spoke at the Crowne Plaza to the Illinois Democratic County Chairs’ Association brunch, it fit that script. And Thursday is GOP Day at the fair. But freshman Democratic Gov. J.B. PRITZKER framed the picnic he hosted (and paid for personally) at the Director’s Lawn at the State Fair as a bipartisan event, and said he invited all lawmakers, including Republicans. Well, House GOP Leader JIM DURKIN, R-Western Springs, said he never got an invitation, and ELENI DEMERTZIS, his spokeswoman, said some others in the caucus she checked with didn’t receive invitations either. . .Durkin said had he received the invitation, he probably would have attended.)

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— Past and present candidates and elected officials who spoke at the Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) meeting Wednesday evening, August 14, 2019, at the Holiday Inn in Carol Stream included Almiron, Corrigan, Diersen, Eckhoff, Fitch, Grant, Heidorn, Holder, Ives, Kachiroubas, Keller, Kinzler, Krzyzewski, Larsen, McCluskey, McGowen, Monino, Seppelfrick, Walsh, and Whelan. Meeting attendees included Baker, Bohn, Carlson, Caruso, Cooper, Crane, Davis, Falbo, Fitzpatrick, Grant, Henry, Holan, A & R. Jorgensen, Kachiroubas, Krzyzewski, Larsen, LeVan, Lofgren, Lollino, McCarthy, McNeily, Muehlfelt, Nathwani, Rash, Ryan, Shaw, Smith, Tatro, Veenstra, and Zaruba. Judge McCluskey announced his candidacy for the upcoming Judge George J. Bakalis vacancy. Larsen reported on what DuPage County is doing concerning the pot issue. Fitch reported on what Wheaton is doing concerning the West District City Council vacancy and the pot issue. Sadly, its seems like the majority of Republican Precinct Committeemen in Wheaton’s West District are not interested in getting together and gathering information on the West District candidates, hosting a candidate forum, or recommending any of the 10 candidates who have applied to be appointed to fill the vacancy. Sadly, it seems like the majority of Milton Township Republican Precinct Committeemen are not interested in getting together and urging DuPage County, Wheaton, or Glen Ellyn to ban the sale of pot. Sadly, it seems like the majority of Milton Township Republican Precinct Committeemen side with my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes. They blame me for their problems, for your problems, for my problems, and for everyone’s problems. They support those who slander and threaten me at MTRCC meetings. They support those who focus on a) stopping me from putting GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails together and sending them out and b) stopping everyone from reading those emails. They support those who discourage Republican candidates, elected officials, and organizations from helping sponsor Wheaton’s Independence Day fireworks and parades. The focus on turning everyone against me, including those who run the Holiday Inn in Carol Stream and those who ran the Wheaton Bowl. They work harder against me and harder against other conservatives than they have ever worked against any Democrat. – Dave Diersen

HERALD NEWS
— OUTSTANDING: Bolingbrook board was blunt — no cannabis businesses in village – ALEX ORTIZ
https://www.theherald-news.com/2019/08/14/bolingbrook-board-was-blunt-no-cannabis-businesses-in-village/av0vrpj/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The village of Bolingbrook Board of Trustees voted Tuesday night to prohibit cannabis business establishments within its boundaries. The trustees voted 5-1 in favor of the prohibition. Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar said he was in favor of prohibiting cannabis businesses in the village and decried how the state government passed the legislation to legalize it. “I philosophically have a real problem with governments which have turned to drugs and gambling to balance their budgets,” he said. “That’s what the state’s come to.” The village’s ordinance cited the state’s Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act, which allows municipalities to prohibit adult-use cannabis business establishments. Ken Teppel, the village’s public safety director, spoke about the Bolingbrook Police Department’s opposition to allowing cannabis businesses in town. He also talked about the challenges posed to police departments in other states that have already legalized recreational cannabis use, like Colorado. For example, Teppel said cannabis businesses have been targets for theft because they deal solely in cash to be in compliance with federal banking laws. He added that, for police, it’s more difficult to investigate such crimes without a paper trail. He also talked about other problems like black markets developing around legal dispensaries, the high potency of the drug nowadays, potential dangers with flammable materials used to grow the plant, and trying to develop a test for impaired drivers who have used the drug. During public comments, the opinions among the handful of residents who spoke were mixed. Trustee Bob Jaskiewicz was the only “no” vote. He said it was a mistake to not have a public hearing before holding a vote on the prohibition. “I want us to consider other points as to why a dispensary would be a good thing,” Jaskiewicz said. Claar told Jaskiewicz to take up the issue with state legislators because, unlike other states, which held a referendum, Illinois “chose to ignore the public” and didn’t ask voters. Claar said lawmakers were already discussing a possible trailer bill to clarify and fix issues with the initial law that passed. The mayor also made sure to emphasize that the ordinance was only prohibiting commercial businesses selling cannabis and not recreational use of the drug. Trustee Mary Alexander Basta made the point that the ordinance could be revised in the future. Recreational cannabis use and possession will be legal in Illinois starting Jan. 1, 2020.)

GLEN ELLYN PATCH
— Recreational Pot Up For Discussion In Glen Ellyn August 19 Do you think recreational marijuana should be sold in Glen Ellyn? – Lisa Marie Farver (DIERSEN: The Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) should pass a resolution against the sale of pot in Milton Township and in the rest of DuPage County like it passed a resolution against video gambling in 2009. Republican Precinct Committeemen in Glen Ellyn should attend Glen Ellyn’s meeting on August 19 and Republican Precinct Committeemen in Wheaton should attend Wheaton’s meeting on August 26. They should call for banning the sale of pot in their municipalities. Past and present MTRCC officers should attend the aforesaid meetings and call for banning the sale of pot. At previous Wheaton City Council meetings, Bob Cherry, B. J. Slinger, Tim Whelan, and I have called for Wheaton to ban the sale of pot. At previous DuPage County Board meetings, Dick Furstenau and I have called for DuPage County to ban the sale of pot in the unincorporated parts of DuPage County.)

August 14 Morning Edition

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— The August Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) monthly meeting is this evening at the Holiday Inn in Carol Stream. The social hour starts at 6:00 PM and the meeting starts at 7:00 PM. SEE: http://dupagegop.org/calendar-3/

I will be signing in as a candidate. I am a candidate to be appointed to fill Wheaton’s West District City Council vacancy. The other six Republican candidates are Edward Ahern, Jeffery Antonelli, Angela Blatner, Nancy Harding, Mark Kmeicik, and Robert McNeily.

Hopefully, all of the aforesaid seven candidates will a) attend meeting, b) announce their candidacies, c) and seek the support of the eighteen Republican Precinct Committeemen who represent Wheaton’s West District. Those eighteen Precinct Committeemen are Joseph Caruso, Dave Diersen, Thomas Elsner, Arthur Grant, Ralph Hinkle, Marty Keller, John Kocinski, Robert Krzyzewski, Michael Hinsdale, Jae Kwon, Robert Larsen, Connor McCarthy, Robert McNeily, Ronald Menna, Elizabeth Tatro, James Ryan, Mark Thomas, and Herbert Wehling.

Hopefully, MTRCC will gather relevant information about the aforesaid seven candidates, provide that information to the aforesaid eighteen Precinct Committeemen, and host a candidate forum. The goal of providing information on the candidates and hosting a candidate forum is to help the aforesaid eighteen Precinct Committeemen recommend to Wheaton’s City Council the best possible candidate to be appointed to fill the Wheaton West District City Council vacancy.

In my opinion, the following information about all 10 candidates should be disclosed: How long they have lived in Wheaton, how long they have lived in Wheaton’s West District, their work experience, their education, their professional certifications and licenses, their memberships in professional associations, why they want to be appointed to fill the vacancy, what they believe the three most important issues are that Wheaton needs to address in the next 2 years and how those issues those issues should be addressed, their political affiliation and activities, their civic activities, if they would vote for or against banning the sale of pot in Wheaton, what their position is on Wheaton’s Roosevelt Road corridor, if they would vote for or against requiring employers in Wheaton to use E-Verify, and what they have done that demonstrates they can carry out typical city council functions. In my opinion, Republican Precinct Committeemen in Wheaton’s West District should have the above information.

At Wheaton’s City Council meeting on Monday, August 19, 2019, its members will go into executive session to deliberate on the 10 candidates who have applied. Because, in that session, they will be reviewing the documents that the 10 candidates have submitted, Wheaton has denied my FOIA request for those documents.

According to MTRCC’s bylaws (http://www.miltongop.org/about-mtrcc/by-laws), “When a position within Milton Township is declared vacant, the MTRCC shall meet within forty (40) days of the declaration of vacancy to recommend an individual to fill such vacancy. The recommendation shall be decided at a convention of the Organization by a majority vote of the Organization through a written ballot.” It would be great if MTRCC would host a candidate forum for the aforesaid seven Republican candidates.” I urge MTRCC to do the aforesaid concerning Wheaton’s West District City Council vacancy.

Many Republican candidates, elected officials, and party leaders routinely attend MTRCC meetings. I hope that the following will attend MTRCC’s August 14 meeting and a candidate forum if one is held: a) Wheaton’s mayor and City Council members, b) 6th Congressional District candidates Jeanne Ives and Evelyn Sanguinetti; c) DuPage County Recorder candidates Ron Almiron and Babette Holder; d) Illinois officials including Amy Grant; e) DuPage County officials including Robert Berlin, Fred Bucholz, Daniel Cronin, Pete DiCianni, Grant Eckhoff, Timothy Elliott, Robert Grogan, Gwen Henry, Richard Jorgensen, Christopher Kachiroubas, Robert Larsen, Paula McGowen, James Mendrick, Al Murphy, Sean Noonan, Jeffrey Redick, Darlene Ruscitti, Timothy Whelan, and Jim Zay; f) Milton Township officials including Sal Falbo, Chris Heidorn, Gail Hinkle, Marty Keller, Chris LeVan, Gary Muehlfelt, David Molitor, John Monino, and Yada Nathwani; g) Wheaton Park District officials including Michael Benard; h) School District 200 officials; and i) College of DuPage officials including Annette Corrigan, Christine Fenne, Heidi Holan, and Frank Napolitano.

It will be extremely interesting to see which of the seven candidates are endorsed by which of the aforesaid candidates, elected officials, and party leaders, and especially which candidates Ives and Sanguinetti might endorse because they both have served on Wheaton’s City Council.

Further, I will be asking a) Susan Fitch, Chris Zaruba, and other Wheaton City Council members who attend the meeting to brief the meeting’s attendees on actions being taken to ban the sale of pot in Wheaton and b) Grant Eckhoff, Tim Elliott, Bob Larsen, Jim Zay, and other DuPage County Board members who attend the meeting to brief the meeting’s attendees on actions being taken to ban the sale of pot in DuPage County’s unincorporated areas.

Further, I will be asking the meeting’s attendees to join me, Bob Cherry, Dick Furstenau, B.J. Singer, and Tim Whelan in urging DuPage County, Wheaton, Carol Stream, Glendale Heights, Lombard, Downers Grove, Naperville, Warrenville, West Chicago, and the rest of the 38 municipalities in DuPage County to ban the sale of pot.

Further, I will be asking the DuPage County Republican Central Committee, its Chairman Marty Keller, MTRCC, and the other eight Republican township party organizations in DuPage County to urge DuPage County and the 38 municipalities in DuPage County to ban the sale of pot. – Dave Diersen

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— Diersen asks the Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) to host a candidate forum for the Republican Wheaton West District City Council candidates at its 7:00 PM Wednesday August 14, 2019 meeting at the Holiday Inn in Carol Stream, or alternatively, during the following 2 weeks.

The Republican candidates are Edward Ahern, Jeffery Antonelli, Angela Blatner, Dave Diersen, Nancy Harding, Mark Kmiecik, and Robert McNeily.

Diersen asks MTRCC to provide relevant information about the aforesaid candidates to its members who represent Republican voters in Wheaton’s West District. Those MTRCC members are Joseph Caruso, Dave Diersen, Thomas Elsner, Arthur Grant, Ralph Hinkle, Marty Keller, John Kocinski, Robert Krzyzewski, Michael Hinsdale, Jae Kwon, Robert Larsen, Connor McCarthy, Robert McNeily, Ronald Menna, Elizabeth Tatro, James Ryan, Mark Thomas, and Herbert Wehling.

The goal of the candidate forum and providing information on the candidates is to help the aforesaid Wheaton West District MTRCC members recommend the best possible candidate to be appointed to fill the Wheaton West District City Council vacancy.

Many Republican candidates, elected officials, and party leaders routinely attend MTRCC meetings. I hope that the following will attend MTRCC’s August 14 meeting: a) 6th Congressional District candidates Jeanne Ives and Evelyn Sanguinetti; b) DuPage County Recorder candidates Ron Almiron and Babette Holder; c) Wheaton’s mayor and City Council members; d) Illinois officials including Amy Grant; e) DuPage County officials including Robert Berlin, Fred Bucholz, Daniel Cronin, Pete DiCianni, Grant Eckhoff, Timothy Elliott, Robert Grogan, Gwen Henry, Richard Jorgensen, Christopher Kachiroubas, Robert Larsen, Paula McGowen, James Mendrick, Al Murphy, Sean Noonan, Jeffrey Redick, Darlene Ruscitti, Timothy Whelan, and Jim Zay; f) Milton Township officials including Sal Falbo, Chris Heidorn, Gail Hinkle, Marty Keller, Chris LeVan, Gary Muehlfelt, David Molitor, John Monino, and Yada Nathwani; g) Wheaton Park District officials including Michael Benard; h) School District 200 officials; and i) College of DuPage officials including Annette Corrigan, Christine Fenne, Heidi Holan, and Frank Napolitano.

Further, I ask MTRCC to brief its members at the meeting on actions being taken to ban the sale of pot in DuPage County’s unincorporated areas and in Wheaton, Carol Stream, Glendale Heights, Lombard, Downers Grove, Naperville, Warrenville, West Chicago, and the rest of the 38 municipalities in DuPage County. – Dave Diersen
