Without wrestling with any difficult questions of faith or logic, Mr. Kristof simply casts the federal bureaucracy in the role of Jesus. Then the Timesman proceeds to suggest through satire that by seeking to reduce outlays and improve incentives in federal programs, Mr. Ryan is defying the will of his God. Of course if federal agencies were ever actually given the statutory mission to do as Jesus would do, Mr. Kristof would be as horrified as anyone. But this seems to be a political season when people who spend much of the year driving religion out of public life abruptly drag it back in as they attempt to justify big government. It’s not necessarily persuasive. The ancient book has numerous admonitions to perform charity and various condemnations of greed, but it’s not easy to find a passage in which Jesus says that government is the best vehicle to provide aid, or that anyone should force others to donate. Even casual readers of the Bible may notice that Jesus doesn’t get along all that well with the political authorities of his time and (spoiler alert!) his relationship with government ends rather badly. Back then, tax collectors were not presumed to be the dedicated public servants that we appreciate so much today. And in our own time, social conservatives who think the U.S. Government has become hostile to religion—Christianity in particular—should consider what Jesus had to put up with.)

Pat McCrory, a Republican, says the backlash over his state’s so-called “bathroom law” has made it tough for him to find work since he left public office. The controversial “bathroom law,” or House Bill 2, requires individuals to use the restroom that correlates with their biological sex as it is written on their birth certificate. Following the law’s passage, McCrory, who supported the bill, was attacked as anti-LGBT and several performers and sports teams cancelled their events in the state. While the school took some heat from conservative parents who thought the curriculum leaned too far left, Blackwell worried the content just wasn’t appropriate. He lives on the South Side and his daughter lives on the North Shore with her mom. Blackwell said negative images were being reinforced, and he pointed to a session called “Blackenomics 101,” based on a rap song that uses the N-word. “This session tells white teenagers that blacks need to express themselves through vulgarity and violence,” he said. Blackwell is chairman of EKI-Digital, which helps companies monetize technology investments, and he’a chairman of Killerspin table-tennis company. The President will address the annual meeting of the conservative movement at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in Maryland, at 10:00 AM. CPAC is a gathering of conservative activists from all across the country who meet to learn from each other, receive training in activism and campaign management, and hear from prominent conservative leaders. Giangreco appeared on the station’s 5 p.m. newscast on Thursday, after word of his suspension was reported.
