Anti-Trumps run Cook County.  Anti-Trumps run Chicago.  Anti-Trumps run etc.  Ever-increasingly, anti-Trumps make it clear that they are going to get rid of all Trump supporters. What will they do first?  Stop hiring Trump supporters? Fire Trump supporters? Refuse to do business with Trump supporters?  Force Trump supporters to wear “Make America Great Again” caps to identify them so that they can be harassed, threatened, beat up, or killed?  Will anti-Trumps get illegals, Democrats, Libertarians, Greens, RINOs, Muslims, Mexicans, Hispanics, Blacks, Asians, women, young people, LGBTQ people, poor people, recent immigrants, union members, members of the paid news media, stoners, criminals, and members of other oppressed groups to threaten, to beat up, or to kill Trump supporters?)

DECATUR DAILY
— Popularity contest with Trump – Milbank (DIERSEN: What would my critics/opponents say to Trump about me and about my GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails? Would they stress that only 137 in my precinct voted for Trump, while 211 voted for Clinton?  Would they provide Trump with a list of those who have worked the hardest to stop me from sending out GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails and to stop everyone from reading those emails?  Would they provide Trump with a list of all those who read GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails, but who fail/refuse to return my phone calls?  Would they drag out all those who I have sued and/or who I might sue?  Would they provide Trump with a list of all those “Republican” activists, candidates, elected officials, party leaders, major donors, political consultants, etc. who do not want me to know about their events or other activities, do not want me to promote their events or other activities, do not want me to attend their events, and who do not want me to report on their events?  Would they stress all the links to articles that are critical of Trump that I have included in GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails?  Would they stress that I am no longer the TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois chairman, a Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee member, the Milton Township Republican Central Committee webmaster, an Illinois Center Right Coalition Steering Committee member, an American Association of Political Consultants Midwest Chapter board member, a GAO employee, etc.?)
http://www.decaturdaily.com/opinion/columnists/popularity-contest-with-trump/article_e8fd4557-c5a4-5aa4-a9a0-95edb4d440e5.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Journalists need to recognize we’re not going to win a popularity contest with Trump, and we shouldn’t try. Trump is not going to be appeased by friendlier coverage. He campaigned against the media, and he will continue to use the media as a foil. His party controls Congress, and conservatives will soon control the Supreme Court. If he can discredit the media, he’ll remove another check to his power. Our third president, Thomas Jefferson, famously remarked that “were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter.” Our 45th president would clearly prefer the former. He has shut out news organizations, including The Post, whose coverage he dislikes. He has threatened to restrict First Amendment press freedoms. Pursuing public affection is a fool’s errand. The profession was never held in high public esteem. And the recent decline in approval is due entirely to Trump’s bashing.)

http://chicago.suntimes.com/politics/brown-irs-agent-an-answer-to-prosecutors-prayers/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Political corruption will never be eliminated in Chicago, but some people will tell you nobody ever did more to slow it down than William Witkowski. Those who are old enough should recognize the names of Witkowski’s investigative targets: Illinois Gov. Otto Kerner, powerhouse Ald. Thomas Keane, Attorney General William Scott, Judge Reginald Holzer and John Cardinal Cody. Others will recognize the lawyers who gained prominence prosecuting them: Jim Thompson, Sam Skinner, Tyrone Fahner, Jeremy Margolis and Scott Turow. But very few are familiar with the former IRS agent whose extraordinary investigative skills made those cases — and in the process made him a legend in certain circles. Witkowski died Nov. 13 from complications of multiple sclerosis. He was 74. Never one to take bows during his lifetime, Witkowski will have to suffer these accolades in silence. “Bill Witkowski was the single best investigator I have ever known,” said veteran investigative reporter Edward Pound, formerly of the Chicago Sun-Times. I’m quoting Pound here because many people regard him as the single best investigator ever to work in my business, and it takes one to know one. But everyone who spoke to me about Witkowski offered the same sort of superlative assessment without reservation. “We wouldn’t have been able to do the prosecutions we did without him,” said Fahner, the prosecutor who convicted Keane and went on to become Illinois Attorney General and later a successful lawyer with Mayer Brown. In the 1970s and 1980s, it was the IRS that did most of the heavy lifting on political corruption in Illinois. And in that circle, Witkowski gained a reputation as the alpha dog. Many recall his unassuming style. A large man with a flat top brush cut, Witkowski looked more the part of the neighborhood guy he was than anybody’s notion of an IRS agent.)

WASHINGTON POST
— Can businesses refuse to serve — or employ — Trump supporters? – Eugene Volokh  (DIERSEN: How much religious, government, political, and/or financial clout do the Trump-haters have in your precinct, in your municipality, in your township/ward, in your county, and in Illinois?  Of course, obviously, needless-to-say, and without question, the Trump-haters will use their clout to destroy Trump supporters.  One should expect that the more votes that Clinton got than Trump got in your precinct, in your municipality, in your township/ward, in your county, and in Illinois, the faster that Trump-haters will move to destroy you. What actions should Trump supporters take to defend themselves against the Trump-haters?)
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/volokh-conspiracy/wp/2016/11/25/can-businesses-refuse-to-serve-or-employ-trump-supporters/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Is a private business’s refusing to serve people based on their political affiliation legal? How about firing employees for their politics (something that might be implied by “you are not welcome at 1st In SEO and we ask you to leave our firm” and “break ties with any person”)? It turns out that this depends on the jurisdiction, and on whether the business is discriminating against clients or employees. The First Amendment doesn’t apply to such private businesses (incidentally, whether or not they take government funds, see Rendell-Baker v. Kohn (1982)), and federal law generally doesn’t ban political affiliation discrimination, so it ends up being a matter of state and local law. In New Mexico, for instance, discriminating against clients on this basis is legal — but firing employees, or threatening to fire them, based on their politics is a felony. 1. Most states ban most businesses from discriminating against clients based on the clients’ race, religion, sex or national origin. Federal law does the same, though for a narrower set of businesses (and doesn’t cover sex discrimination); it also adds a ban on disability discrimination. Many states and some cities also ban discrimination based on sexual orientation, marital status and various other attributes. But political affiliation is rarely on the list. A few cities or counties do ban such discrimination. D.C. bans discrimination based on “the state of belonging to or endorsing any political party.” Seattle bans such discrimination based on “any idea or belief, or coordinated body of ideas or beliefs, relating to the purpose, conduct, organization, function or basis of government and related institutions and activities, whether or not characteristic of any political party or group,” “includ[ing] membership in a political party or group and includ[ing] conduct, reasonably related to political ideology, which does not interfere with job performance.” There are a few other places on this list. But New Mexico doesn’t ban such discrimination in public accommodations, and neither do the city of Albuquerque or Bernalillo County. One can debate whether such discrimination should be outlawed, by analogy to various other forms of discrimination. Perhaps if wedding photographers can’t discriminate against same-sex weddings (which New Mexico courts have indeed said), Internet marketing companies shouldn’t be able to discriminate against people who have particular views. Or perhaps such antidiscrimination laws shouldn’t be expanded further, or should even be cut back, to leave people free to choose whether to refuse to do business with others, whether or not we’d approve of that choice. But, as a matter of current law, such discrimination against Trump supporters (or Hillary Clinton supporters or Communists or libertarians or whoever else) is legal. 2. Many states and some cities and counties, however, do ban discrimination against employees — or at least firing of current employees — based on their political activity (with different jurisdictions defining such activity differently). I discuss this in detail in my article “Private Employees’ Speech and Political Activity: Statutory Protection Against Employer Retaliation,” but here’s the New Mexico statute, enacted in 1912, when New Mexico became a state: Coercion of employees [a fourth degree felony] consists of … any person having under his control or in his employment persons entitled to vote at any election, directly or indirectly discharging or threatening to discharge such employee because of the employee’s political opinions or belief or because of such employee’s intention to vote or refrain from voting for any candidate, party, proposition, question or constitutional amendment. Threatening an employee with dismissal because he supports Trump is thus a felony in New Mexico (and also likely a tort, so the dismissed employee can sue even if the prosecutor chooses not to prosecute).)

— Trump’s Walk of Fame star gets 24-hour security
http://www.fox32chicago.com/news/219637652-story
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Donald Trump is getting a lot of security obviously now that he’s President-elect, but did you know his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is also getting a lot of security. The star is all repaired and drawing big crowds after being vandalized last month. Now, it has 24/7 protection. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has placed three barricades around the star, and two officers are on foot patrol along with a squad car nearby at all times. The LAPD days this monitoring does not cost extra for the city, since officers are always patrolling the busy area. There is no word on when this presidential protection will cease. This all comes about after a vandal hacked out the star’s gold-colored name and television logo last month. The culprit, James Lambert Otis, told news media outlets he originally intended to “remove” the entire star from the 6800 block of Hollywood Boulevard, auction it off in New York and give the money to the nearly dozen women who allege they were groped or sexually mistreated by Trump. But Otis said he was unable to accomplish the feat.)

She revealed that she continued to track their whereabouts after the festival was over. Maude, 18, is a freshman in Northwestern’s School of Communication, according to a university spokesman. THE BLAZE
— Tucker Carlson slams business owner Mathew Blanchfield who refuses to work with ‘ignorant’ Trump supporters – Tre Goins-Phillips  (DIERSEN: How many Blanchfields are there in America, in Illinois, in your county, in your township/ward, in your municipality, and in your precinct?  They all voted for Clinton. How soon, if not already, will they display signs that say the following are not wanted: Trump supporters, Protestants, conservatives, Republicans, Americans, Whites, males, older people, rich people, gun owners, German-Americans, draft avoiders, and/or those whose ancestors have been in America longer than their ancestors?)
http://www.theblaze.com/news/2016/11/24/tucker-carlson-slams-business-owner-who-refuses-to-work-with-ignorant-trump-supporters/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Mathew Blanchfield, CEO of the Albuquerque-based internet marketing firm 1st in SEO, went on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight” Wednesday to defend his announcement that those who support President-elect Donald Trump are “not welcome” at his company. And the conversation between Carlson and the business owner was brutal. “If you are a Republican, voted for Donald Trump or support Donald Trump, in any manner, you are not welcome at 1st in SEO and we ask you to leave our firm,” Blanchfield’s original letter read. During the bewildering discussion on Fox, Carlson asked the CEO why he would say something like that. Blanchfield argued he is standing on “moral principle” and that he is intolerant of bigotry, racism, sexism and fascism. The New Mexico entrepreneur went on to draw comparisons between Nazi Germany and the United States under a Trump administration. “When you say ‘fascism,’ I mean, you don’t really believe that? If you believed that Trump was a fascist dictator, then you would organize an actual resistance to him. You would be Dietrich Bonhoeffer, you would be fighting against him for real,” Carlson told the Blanchfield. “[W]hy wouldn’t you take up arms against him? If you really believe the country is being taken over by someone you compare to Hitler, then that’s — I mean — that’s like the worst thing that could ever happen.” Blanchfield, who throughout the interview noted the number of death threats he’s received, told the Fox anchor that their discussion was his “resistance.” Clearly becoming frustrated by the interaction, Carlson told Blanchfield he is “belittling historic reality” by comparing Trump to Hilter. “Being rude to news anchors who make $3 million a year is not the same as rounding up an entire ethnic group and killing them, or invading Poland,” the Fox host said. “For you to say that really does diminish actual historical crimes,” Carlson added. In the end, Carlson shot back at Blanchfield, telling him he’s “on a moral vanity trip like I’ve never seen.” “Has it ever occurred to you that every rich, famous person, fashionable person, in America agrees with you?” Carlson asked. “That you’re taking no risk at all? That, in fact, people like you are celebrated in every American newspaper, at award ceremonies? I mean, come on.”)

— Ex-US Rep. Schock Allegedly Profited off Voters’ DC Visits – AP
http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/schock-allegedly-profited-off-voters-washington-visits-43671243
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The indictment of a 35-year-old disgraced former Republican congressman jolted residents of his central Illinois district, shaken by prosecutors’ claims that Aaron Schock illegally dipped into campaign and government coffers to subsidize a lavish lifestyle, including his Capitol Hill office done up in the style of “Downton Abbey.” Perhaps more stunning was an allegation found on page 34 of the charging document: Schock’s apparent willingness to pocket thousands of constituents’ dollars by arranging annual Washington tours combined with meet-and-greets. “I know that some people feel very hurt, angered and betrayed,” said Quincy insurance agent Jack Freiburg, who attended such an event in 2014. State political observers say the alleged scheme stands out — even with Illinois’ long-established reputation for corruption, including a former governor’s attempt to sell President Barack Obama’s U.S. Senate seat. House rules require excess fees from such visits be returned to constituents or donated to charity, according to the indictment. “That’s a new one on me,” said David Melton of Illinois Campaign for Political Reform. “I have never heard of anything quite that audacious.” The three-day extravaganza attended by Freiburg and about 50 others in July 2014 included bus rides to the National Zoo and a reception at the Japanese ambassador’s residence. Freiburg paid a $785 “Fly-in Conference Fee” to Schock’s office — meant to cover meals, transportation and other hosting costs — on top of $2,000 to $3,000 for a plane ticket, hotel room and other expenses. Schock, the once-rising GOP star and prodigious party fundraiser, secretly kept at least $11,000 from that event, the indictment said. Freiburg recalled that many on the trip were well-off but others weren’t, including several recent college graduates. “Some sacrificed financially to go,” the 63-year-old said. Prosecutors say in 2011, Schock set up a Florida bank account under the name of a factious company, “Global Travel International,” and instructed staff to deposit that year’s fly-fee money into it. He allegedly kept at least $4,482 from the 2011 fly-in, which happened in the same month he appeared on the cover of Men’s Health, his shirt unbuttoned to show off his six-pack abs. Landing the magazine cover — with the blurb “Rep. Aaron Schock is willing to give you the shirt off his back” — drew mockery on late-night TV but boosted Schock’s profile nationally.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Gov. Bruce Rauner last month established the Illinois Competitiveness Council, which will scrutinize occupational-licensing requirements and other regulations constraining economic growth. In targeting occupational licensing, Mr. Rauner has joined the Obama White House, several other governors, and commissions in states including Michigan, Virginia, Indiana and even regulation-happy California. But despite bipartisan support, licensing reform is likely to face ferocious opposition from members of licensed occupations. Those working in an industry that requires licensing learn that they can use an occupational license to choke out the competition. They can even command higher prices without delivering improved products or services. In our forthcoming book, we describe those who use government regulations to perpetuate their own advantages in a market as “bottleneckers.”)

http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/barbara-hollingsworth/ill-legislator-wants-sanction-firms-help-trump-build-border-wall
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A bill introduced Wednesday in the Illinois General Assembly would punish any businesses that help the federal government build a wall along the U.S. southern border by placing them on a “Prohibited Investment List” alongside companies that boycott Israel and do business with Sudan and Iran.  Building the wall between the U.S. and Mexico was a major promise President-elect Donald Trump made to voters during his successful presidential campaign. It is also the first goal of Trump’s “10 Point Plan to Put America First.” Trump said he will “begin working on an impenetrable physical wall on the southern border, on day one. Mexico will pay for the wall.” The proposed legislation submitted by Rep. Will Guzzardi (D-Chicago) would amend the Illinois Procurement Code to prohibit any state agency from “entering into a contract subject to the Code with a business that contracts with the federal government to build a wall along the border of Mexico and the United States of America.”)

http://www.cnn.com/2016/11/17/us/burqa-ban-bill-georgia-trnd/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A Georgia legislator said Thursday he will withdraw a bill that would have banned Muslim women from wearing burqas or veils while driving or when their driver’s license photos are taken. State Rep. Jason Spencer, on his official Facebook page, cited “the visceral reaction” created by the proposed legislation as his reason for withdrawing it. “While this bill does not contain language that specifically targets any group, I am mindful of the perception that it has created. My objective was to address radical elements that could pose a threat to public safety,” wrote Spencer. The bill was heavily criticized. Sheik Salahadin Wazir, host of the American Muslim Weekly Show, told CNN’s “New Day” that the bill would only help radicals by discriminating against Muslim women. “We should not aid and give to the radicals a gift,” he said. Spencer wanted to amend the state’s anti-masking statute, which was intended to ban Ku Klux Klan hoods and robes, and extend it to burqas, the full-body garment that many Muslim women wear. Spencer’s bill adds the word “she” and specifies that public property include public roads and highways. The bill also says public identification cards, including driver’s licenses, should not be issued to any person if his or her face is concealed. Spencer said the bill would have been able to “withstand legal scrutiny, but not political scrutiny.”)

NATIONAL REVIEW
— The Privilege That Wasn’t – ERICKA ANDERSEN  (DIERSEN: Are you White?  My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes, virtually all of whom are White, have always attributed the successes that I have had in life to my being White, that is, to White privilege.  They shout that I have never been adversely impacted by political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, or age discrimination.)
http://www.nationalreview.com/article/442208/white-privilege-donald-trump-voters-election-lessons-race
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The experience of many white people across the country is the opposite of privilege. Many of those in the public eye have assigned “privilege” to all white people. Recently, I’ve seen several people share a quote on social media that reads, “When you’re accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression.” The assertion is that Trump voters don’t recognize their privilege over marginalized groups seeking equality. But quite a few people are missing a big part of the picture. For a good many white people in the U.S., “privilege” is not a word they relate to. And equality — as far as attention to the problems they are facing — is something they too want our leaders to give them. And it’s hard for members of the media, the cultural elite, and many minority groups to grasp that. The intent in focusing on white privilege (which I do believe is real for many) is not wrong — but it’s sometimes misguided. To understand where that focus has gone wrong is not to downplay the very real problems that do face minority groups in this country. But let’s talk about another side of the coin when it comes to white privilege. Part of what drove the Trump takeover of 2016 was the fact that liberal culture is obsessed with identity politics based on race and sex, having all but forgotten anyone who isn’t a racial, ethnic, or sexual minority — and the bread-and-butter issues that exist outside of those categories.  Classism is a very real thing too — and this year, the white working class of America stood up and said very loudly: You’ve forgotten about us.)

NEW YORK TIMES
— What’s Your Ideal Community? The Answer Is Political – Emily Badger
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/04/upshot/whats-your-ideal-community-the-answer-is-political.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The American political map that has emerged over the last half-century, with blue cities and red beyond, is a product of both the ideological realignment of the two parties and geographic sorting among voters. It also raises a fascinating question about how our politics are shaped by where we live. Is it simply that people who are already liberal choose dense urban environments and conservatives choose more suburban living? Or do these places influence how we feel about government — and each other — in ways that make us more liberal or conservative? Political scientists, fortunately, cannot randomly assign people to cities, suburbs or rural outposts and then wait to see if their politics adapt. But their theories of why density might matter for partisanship add a provocative layer to how we think about the differences among us that are more often defined in an election year by education, income or race. A large Pew survey two years ago of American political life found that self-described liberals overwhelmingly said they’d prefer to live where the homes are smaller and closer together but where the amenities are within walking distance. Conservatives chose the opposite trade-off: big homes, spaced farther apart, but with schools and restaurants miles away. The question got at a pattern underlying politics today: Beyond our disagreements about taxes, welfare or health care, partisans also fundamentally favor different kinds of places.)
