CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— The Wrath of the Omarosa – John Kass
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/columnists/kass/ct-met-omarosa-trump-kass-20180814-story.html
— Republicans to have their state fair rally as Rauner tries to unify party (DIERSEN: Political parties exist to help elect candidates who can and will defend and advance their platform. One could ask what has the Illinois Republican Party (IRP) done since the March 20, 2018 primary to encourage those who support the traditional family, right to life, and immigration planks in the IRP platform to vote for Republicans?
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-met-bruce-rauner-republicans-illinois-state-fair-20180814-story.html
— Rauner hopes Madigan’s a crook, but he still can’t back up his accusations – Eric Zorn (DIERSEN: Who has hoped that you would do illegal things so that you would be prosecuted? My Democrat superiors always hoped that I would do illegal things so that they could use those things to get rid of me faster than they did. In 1968 and 1969, my Democrat Post Office superiors hinted/implied/argued/shouted that my sick leave requests were illegal. In 1974, my Democrat IRS superiors hinted/implied/argued/shouted that my partial per diem requests were illegal and in 1978, they and Money Magazine hinted/implied/argued/shouted that my education deductions were illegal.)

— Rauner vetoes anti-discrimination proposal – Rick Pearson (DIERSEN: Have you ever worked for an employer that had 14 or fewer employees? Between 1964 and 1997, I worked for only one such employer, John’s Sinclair in Chicago Heights for 2 months in 1966. I worked for S.S. Kresges 1964-1966; Flossmoor Country Club, Thrall Car, and John’s Sinclair in 1966; the Post Office 1966-1969; Chrysler and University Plaza Dormitory in 1970; Firestone stores 1970-1972; IRS 1971-1980; and GAO 1980-1997.)

— Chicago cop files lawsuit over years on desk duty while under investigation – Jeremy Gorner (DIERSEN: Constructively, my Democrat superiors in the federal government always had me “under investigation” and “on desk duty” because I have always been a Republican, but also because I have always opposed political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-met-chicago-cop-lawsuit-desk-duty-20180814-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Chicago police officer on desk duty for years in connection with one of the Police Department’s worst scandals in its history has filed a federal lawsuit against the city that alleges that the department refused to hold a disciplinary hearing, violating his constitutional rights. In a front-page article in October 2016, the Chicago Tribune chronicled how Officer Thomas Sherry and a second officer remained on desk duty at full pay, filing papers or answering phones because they were barred from working the street because of ongoing disciplinary investigations that can take years to close.)

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
— Canceled Trump campaign rally at UIC was turning point for Omarosa – Mitchell Armentrout
https://chicago.suntimes.com/news/omarosa-trump-uic-rally-protests-donald-manigault-newman/
— The joy of being first with a ’64 Mustang – Editorial (DIERSEN: D&M Corvette in Downers Grove has appraised my 1972 Corvette at $41,500. But that was after I recently invested $6,702 in the car – $5,228 to D&M ($3,466 labor and $1,762 parts) and $1,474 to Coker Tire for 5 Firestone Wide Oval replica tires. I had not started the car for almost 9 years. Most of D&M’s bill was for repairing damage that ethanol did to car’s entire fuel system. The master cylinder and four calipers were replaced, A/C was charged, carbonator was rebuilt and fuel pump replaced, minor electrical and mechanical problems were fixed, five new tires were installed, new battery was installed, etc. I could have avoided much if not all of the fuel system and brake problems if I had driven the car more – at least once each summer. But my excuse for not starting the car since 2009 is that since 2004, I have spent 10+ hours each and every day putting GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails together and sending them out.)
https://chicago.suntimes.com/autos/first-ford-mustang-park-ridge-convertible-garage/
(FROM THE EDITORIAL: Ford has confirmed what Tom and Gail were hearing — that their Mustang was the first ever sold — and now the car is on display in Michigan this week as the company celebrates the sale of its 10 millionth Mustang. Not only did the Gail and Tom Wise hang on to their Mustang all these years; they also hung on to the original paperwork. By one estimate, that makes their old blue car worth as much as $450,000. We are constantly reminded to de-junk our lives. The KonMari method tells us to tidy up. Feng shui tells us to remove unneeded items. But sometimes there’s joy to be found in proper storage.)

DAILY HERALD
— Governor signs bill requiring public notice of tollway contracts (DIERSEN: Government employers should be required to give “public notice” whenever they take adverse employment actions against their employees. Government employers have always been under tremendous pressure from Democrat politicians a) to hire, retain, and promote young Democrat minorities and young Democrat females and b) to make way for them by getting rid of their employees who are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)

CRAIN’S CHICAGO BUSINESS
–DIERSEN HEADLINE: How much money per month would it take to get you to stop working and to go on welfare – $500, $1,000, $2,000, $4,000, $8,000, $16,000+? What have you done to qualify yourself for better paying jobs? Even though my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always painted me as being stupid and lazy, I nevertheless earned a) a job-related bachelor’s degree when I was 21 in 1970 and job-related master’s degrees when I was 27, 31, and 48, b) job-related professional certifications when I was 30, 32, 41, 45, 47, and 48, and c) a job-related professional license when I was 32. One could argue that if I could do the aforesaid, ANYONE could do the aforesaid.)

— IS THE MEDIA THE “ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE”? If an enemy controlled the media, would the news look any different? – Daniel Greenfield (DIERSEN: Since 2000, my critics/opponents have hinted/implied/argued/shouted that if they, or if anyone who they manipulate/dominate, had been the GOPUSA Illinois Editor, Republicans would not have suffered any losses in Illinois since 2000. QUESTION: What would GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails have contained if my critic/opponents had their way? ANSWER: Those emails would have ONLY included links to articles that make my critics/opponents and/or their candidates look good. My critics/opponents and/or their candidates a) reject planks in the Republican Party platform and/or the Illinois Republican Party platform (most commonly, the traditional family, right to life, and immigration planks) and work against those like me who support those planks, b) reject the Milton Township Republican Central Committee resolution against video gambling and work against those like me who support that resolution, c) focus on destroying those like me who they cannot manipulate/dominate, d) were defendants in lawsuits that I have filed, and/or e) are operatives or dupes for the aforesaid.)

http://thehill.com/regulation/court-battles/397532-more-than-100-civil-and-human-rights-groups-call-on-senate-to-reject
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In a Tuesday letter, led by the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, the groups say Kavanaugh will be a fifth and decisive vote to undermine a host of core rights and legal protections, including economic security and access to healthcare, abortion, voting and labor rights. The groups, which include the NAACP, Lamba Legal and Demand Justice, also the rights of immigrants and persons with disabilities, LGBTQ equality, equal opportunity, affirmative action and environmental protections all could be endangered by Kavanaugh joining the high court.)

https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/talkingtech/2018/07/15/facebook-infowars-what-you-need-know/786388002/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Facebook is under pressure to explain why Infowars, a site known for promoting conspiracy theories, doesn’t get booted off the social network as it cracks down on fabricated news. After it admitted pages – including those run by Russian operatives – had scammed the social network with made-up news and video during the 2016 presidential election, Facebook forced through a series of changes designed to prevent a repeat, such as letting users flag content they think is false and then having third-party fact checkers examine the post. At the same time, lambasted by conservatives for what they say is a liberal bias, Facebook maintains it won’t make the editorial decisions itself.)

FCW
— Is Congress expanding its knowledge to meet oversight demands? – Chase Gunter (DIERSEN: GAO’s claim of being nonpartisan was a major reason why I agreed to suffer a $19,203 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980 when I was 31 years old. But I soon learned that GAO, and especially its Chicago office, is extremely partisan.)
https://fcw.com/articles/2018/07/17/congress-tech-knowledge-base.aspx
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Kosar also noted that the staffs of nonpartisan congressional assistance entities, such as the Congressional Research Service and the Government Accountability Office, have seen their staff size decrease. And in the technology arena, that knowledge gap is even more glaring. Congress once had the Office of Technology Assessment, an internal congressional think tank that produced reports on technical matters for lawmakers, but it was shuttered in the 1990s to cut costs. Earlier this year, lawmakers attempted to revive OTA, which peaked at a budget of $20 million and a size of 140 staffers, but the bid failed on a mostly party-line vote in the House.)

— Former Trump chauffeur sues, claiming years of unpaid OT – AP (DIERSEN: Putting GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails together and sending them out each and every morning and each and every evening takes at least 10 hours each and every day, that is, at least a) 70 hours each and every week, b) 300 hours each and every month, c) 3,650 hours each and every year, and d) 36,500 hours each and every decade.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Cintron was Trump’s driver for 20 years, until the Secret Service took over when Trump became the Republican presidential nominee in 2016, according to the suit. He didn’t raise the overtime claim until now because he wasn’t fully mindful of his right to it and didn’t want to cause trouble at work, said one of his lawyers, Larry Hutcher. “He was always concerned about keeping his job. It was something that he did not want to push,” Hutcher said. As a driver, Cintron started his workday at 7 a.m., finished whenever Trump, his relatives or Trump Organization associates said he could go home, and routinely worked 50- to 55-hour weeks without getting overtime but was eligible for it, the lawsuit says. It says Cintron has made $75,000 a year since 2010, when he got a raise from $68,000 but gave up his health insurance in exchange, so the boost wasn’t “meaningful.” Before that, his last raise — roughly $5,000 a year — was in 2006, the suit says. The suit alleges federal and state labor law violations and seeks six years of unpaid overtime — the legal time limit for such claims — plus interest, attorneys’ fees and unspecified damages. His lawyers estimate the overtime alone at over $170,000.)

http://www.dailyherald.com/discuss/20180710/editorial-the-merits-of-illinois-retirement-savings-option
(FROM THE ARTICLE: When the process is complete, all Illinois companies with more than 25 employees that do not offer retirement-savings options will be required to automatically divert 5 percent of each worker’s pay into a Roth IRA managed by a private financial services company under contract with the state. Employees have options for managing their accounts, and they are not required to participate. But they should think carefully before deciding to opt out. The great merit of employer-operated retirement savings plans is that they help ensure that workers save for retirement by transferring money into investments before they’re tempted to spend it.)

WSIL TV
— Lawmakers react to SCOTUS pick – Elizabeth Taylor (DIERSEN: I should write a book about how GAO’s Democrat employees in its Chicago office REACTED to my transferring from IRS to GAO in 1980 when I was 31 years old. Needless-to-say, they were disgusted, outraged, and beyond furious. GAO audits IRS. They viciously demonized, viciously denigrated, and viciously condemned the knowledge of IRS that I had gained by working for IRS for almost 9 years, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $81,071-$91,880. They wanted me to suffer a much greater pay cut to transfer than the $19,203 (26%) pay cut that I suffered. They stressed a) that my Democrat IRS superiors did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, got rid of my mentor in 1975, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974 and b) that my Democrat Post Office superiors forced me resign in 1969 and disallowed my sick leave requests in 1969 and 1968. They stressed that I was a draft-avoiding non-veteran conservative Republican who opposed patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation. They stressed that I was 100% German national origin, a Missouri Synod Lutheran, and someone whose ancestors had been in America since the 1840s. They hinted/implied/argued that IRS should NOT have a) hired me in 1971, b) promoted me in 1972, 1973, or 1974, or c) let me work there for almost 9 years. They hinted/implied/argued that the Post Office should NOT have a) hired me in 1966 or b) let me work there for almost 3 years. They were disgusted, outraged, and beyond furious that I transferred in with almost 12 years of federal seniority, 30 unused vacation days, and more than 100 unused sick days. They hinted/implied/argued/shouted that legislative branch employees were far superior to executive branch employees. They stressed that I had been a union member while I worked for the Post Office and for IRS and that I had filed grievances. They dismissed, belittled, badmouthed, demonized, denigrated, and condemned what I had learn by a) passing the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979, b) almost completing the requirements for a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul, c) earning an MBA from Loyola in 1976, and d) earning a bachelor’s degree in management from NIU in 1970. They painted me and my wife as being undeservedly filthy rich DINKs (dual income, no kids). They stressed that we owned 1017 East Harrison in Wheaton, owned and rented out 774-5 Sunset Court in University Park, and owned a 1972 Corvette, a 1978 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale, and a 1978 Chevy Chevette. They stressed my wife’s salary and her frequent business trips to luxury resorts that could and did accompany her on. They hinted/implied/argued/shouted that my parents were undeservedly filthy rich because they sent me to Trinity Lutheran Grade School in Crete 1953-1961 and then to Hope Lutheran Grade School in Park Forest 1961-1962 to stay with the Missouri Synod. They stressed that I had lived in Crete 1948-1972 and in Wheaton since 1978 and hinted/implied/argued/shouted that Crete and Wheaton were full of people who were White supremacists, Nazis, KKK members, haters, racists, sexists, bigots, and even worse things. They talked and acted like they had read and memorized every word in Money Magazine’s nasty February 1978 4-page article on me.)

AMERICAN THINKER
— Invaders Are Not Immigrants – Shari Goodman
https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2018/07/invaders_are_not_immigrants.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Democratic Party, along with its shills in the mainstream media, has misleadingly blurred the lines between the definition of “immigrant” and “invader.” An immigrant is an alien who has been granted the right to permanently reside in the United States by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. An “invader,” as defined by Merriam Webster, is one who “trespasses, encroaches, and infringes upon another’s property.” The United States is our collective home and those who come here without seeking and gaining permission to enter our collective home are no different than an uninvited guest who enters our personal home to take up residence without permission. As a legal immigrant brought to the United States from Germany at a young age by my parents, I and many legal immigrants who waited sometimes years to obtain the necessary visa for entry resent those who merely walk across our border and claim to be “immigrants.” An immigrant is one who seeks and gains approval to enter, while invaders disrespect our laws put in place by “We the people.” Currently the Democratic Party, under the leadership of Tom Perez, a Marxist, and Keith Ellison, a Muslim Brotherhood operative, have been campaigning for open borders. They have resisted President Trump’s border enforcement, and many others are now calling for the abolishment of ICE (Immigration Custom Enforcement). One only has to look at crime statistics committed by illegals to see a glimpse of what a borderless United States holds for us. The Daily Wire reported that 92 percent of confirmed aliens in Federal Bureau of Prisons custody are illegals and that 97 percent of confirmed aliens in the U.S. Marshal Service custody are illegals. Furthermore, 21 percent of those convicted of non-immigration crimes were non-citizens and 2.5 times their share of the population. The Government Accountability Office reported in 2011 that there were 251,000 criminal aliens in federal, state, and local prisons. Those aliens represented nearly three million criminal offenses, which ranged from homicide and kidnappings to drugs, burglary, and larceny. These criminal offenses would not have occurred here had these criminals been prevented from gaining a foothold into our home and thousands of lives would not have been lost.)

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— Why didn’t the Daily Herald report on Wheaton’s 2018 Independence Day parade?
http://www.gopillinois.com

Why didn’t the Daily Herald report on Wheaton’s 2018 Independence Day parade? Was it:

— because “DuPage County Republicans” was the lead sponsor of the parade? 19 Republicans contributed $2,500 to help sponsor the parade. Illinois Republican Party leader and Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar contributed $500, Judge Jeff MacKay contributed $250, and DuPage County Forest Preserve Commissioner Tim Whelan contributed $150. Bob Berlin, Dan Cronin, Tim Elliott, Amy Grant, Gwen Henry, Paul Hinds, Marty Keller, Deanne Mazzochi, Dave Molitor, John Monino, Chris Nybo, Peter Roskam, Darlene Ruscitti, Phil Suess, Kevin Wiley, and Karen Wilson each contributed $100.

— because DuPage County Republicans got credit for sponsoring the Tunes of Glory bagpipers and the Wheaton North and South High School band entries in the parade?

— because I hand delivered 500 flyers that promoted the parade, the Republican parade sponsors, and the Republican parade entries to residences and businesses, including the residences on Main Street and two blocks east and west of Main Street south of Harrison Street?

— because Republican elected officials and candidates in the parade were Peter Roskam, Evelyn Sanguinetti, Erika Harold, Mike Connelly, Peter Breen, Jeanne Ives, Amy Grant, Paul Hinds, James Mendrick, Grant Eckhoff, Tim Elliott, Chris Zaruba, Tim Whelan, Jeff McKay, Karen Wilson, Gary Muehlfelt, Sal Falbo, John Monino, Nick Nathwani, as well as Marty Keller and the Milton Township Republican Central Committee?

— Gov. Rauner and JB Pritzker both attended Equality Illinois’ Pride Parade reception on Sunday. (DIERSEN: Ever-increasingly, the future looks bleak for those who support the traditional family, right to life, and immigration planks in the Illinois Republican Party (IRP) platform. To promote LGBTQ activity is to dump those voters who support the traditional family plank in the IRP platform. To promote abortion is to dump those voters who support the right to life plank in the IRP platform. To promote illegal immigration is to dump those voters who support the immigration plank in the IRP platform. Ever-increasingly, Rauner seems to promise that if he is reelected, he will drive those who support the aforesaid planks out of the IRP once and for all, that is, that he will destroy the IRP once and for all. (FROM THE ARTICLE: Rep. Maxine Waters addressed a rally in Los Angeles on Saturday, June 23, telling a crowd: “If you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd and you push back on them! And you tell them that they are not welcome, anymore, anywhere.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1Fu3g1MGHY In today’s letter to the Office of Congressional Ethics co-chairman, Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton writes: “In encouraging individuals to create “crowds” who will “push back” on President Trump’s Cabinet members at private business establishments and in seemingly trying to prevent these Cabinet officials from obtaining basic necessities without fear of assault and violence, Rep. Waters seems to be violation of House rules, specifically: “A Member, Delegate, Resident Commissioner, officer, or employee of the House shall conduct himself at all times in a manner that shall reflect creditably on the House. [House Rule 23, clause 1.]” We hereby request that the Office of Congressional Ethics conduct a preliminary investigation into whether Rep. Maxine Waters violated House Rules in encouraging attacks on Cabinet officials. “Rep. Maxine Waters incited violence and assault against members of President Trump’s Cabinet,” stated Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “It is urgent that the House ethics quickly act to hold her accountable for this dangerous incitement.”)

http://www.windycitymediagroup.com/lgbt/Mother-Nature-shines-on-49th-Pride-Parade-/63312.html

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Hundreds of thousands of Chicagoans and out-of-towners lined the streets of Lakeview and Uptown for the 49th annual Chicago Pride Parade the afternoon of June 24. Police officials did not yet have attendance figures at the time of publication, but estimates have suggested the crowd measured about one million spectators for the last several years. Those spectators could not have asked for better weather on June 24; after several days of rain and clouds in Chicago, sunny skies returned for Pride weekend and temperatures remained in the 70s for the afternoon of the parade. Community organizations, city agencies, educational and religious institutions, labor unions and LGBT groups from major corporations were among those taking part. Organizers were limited to 150 parade entries, and kicked off from the corner of Broadway and Montrose Avenue shortly after noon. The final float crossed the starting point at about 2:45 p.m. The parade was headed up by members of Scouts for Equality, an organization working to ensure that precepts of equality are carried out within the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), which, at least in units not affiliated with non-affirming faith-based organizations, no longer discriminates against LGBT adults. Cate Readling, vice-president of membership of the BSA’s Pathway to Adventure Council, noted that BSA had recently begun admitting girls as well. “We’re all official now,” Readling said. The Scouts were followed up by Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who briefly spoke alongside Alds. Tom Tunny (44th Ward) and James Cappleman (46th). In his remarks, Emanuel spoke of the city’s “inclusivity” and “belief in equality and tolerance.” With both federal midterm and state gubernatorial elections in November, and a city election in early 2019, politicians were out in full force. J.B. Pritzker (D), who is challenging incumbent Gov. Bruce Rauner (R) in November, said, “We’re [at] a time when Donald Trump has put rights at risk. He has stood up against trans rights and LGBTQ rights, and he stood against children by putting them in detention, children who are here emigrating with their families, separating them. At a time when it feels like government has become an instrument of immorality, I think we need a governor who will stand up for the LGBTQ community and the immigrant community and not be silent in the face of Donald Trump’s attacks.” “We’ve got to stand together so we can all stand for the planet,” said Cameron Davis, formerly President Barack Obama’s “Great Lakes czar,” who is running for a commissioner’s post for the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD). “It doesn’t get any simpler than that.” Sean Casten, a Democrat who is running against incumbent Peter Roskam (R) in the 6th Congressional District, added, “We are going to come through this horrible time, because there is more love in the world than there is hate, and today we can stay focused on that.” Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle said, “I think it’s important in these times that those of us who are despised minorities in our own country stick together. So I always try to come to this parade and I’m encouraged by the warm reception that I get.” Ald. Raymond Lopez (15th Ward) said that the parade is “not just a celebration but our annual call to arms to defend all required acceptances in our own communities. So I’m glad to be here with our brothers and sisters, making that call for acceptance one more time.” State Rep. Greg Harris (D-Chicago) said, “LGBT people got their rights when we stood up and fought up and fought back against oppression at Stonewall. This country, under Trump, is seeing oppression unlike what we’ve seen before, not only for LGBT people, but for our immigrant communities and people of color [as well]. We need to stand together in solidarity.” Other politicians who either attended and/or sent delegations included U.S. Reps. Mike Quigley (D-6th), Robin Kelly (D-2nd) and Jan Schakowsky (D-9th); Illinois Treasurer Mike Frerichs; state Comptroller Susana Mendoza; Democratic state Reps. Kelly Cassidy, Sara Feigenholtz and Juliana Stratton (running with Pritzker); City Clerk Anna Valencia; and Deb Mell was among several other aldermen marching. Mayoral candidates included Lori Lightfoot (marching with her wife), Paul Vallas, Dorothy Brown, Gary McCarthy and Ja’Mal Green. MWRD Board President Maryana Spyropulos and MWRD Commissioners Debra Shore and Kari Steele also attended, as did Cook County Commission candidate Kevin Morrison and Berwyn School Board Member Julia McAleer-Forte. Orlando “El Fenomeno” Cruz, the first openly gay active professional boxer, was grand marshal. Educational institutions participating included Nettelhorst School; Chicago Waldorf School; Francis W. Parker School & Catherine Cook School; Elmhurst College; Rush University; Truman College and other City Colleges; University of Illinois at Chicago; University of Chicago; and Northwestern University. Among local consulates participating were Australia (for the first time), Ireland, Great Britain, Canada and Israel. Advocacy organizations and agencies included American Veterans for Equal Rights (carrying their large American flag), ACLU of Illinois, Asians and Friends Chicago, La Casa Norte, Chicago Black Gay Men’s Caucus, PFLAG, Night Ministry, Lambda Legal, Equality Illinois, Planned Parenthood, Chicago Gender Society (marching with Heels & Hardhats), The Legacy Project, LGBT Chamber of Commerce of Illinois, Howard Brown Health, TPAN, Project VIDA; Thresholds, About Face Theatre, Windy City Performing Arts, Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus, Center on Halsted, ForeskinPride.org, AARP of Illinois, the National Gay Pilots Association, Human Rights Campaign, Mercy for Animals and the Obama Foundation. Lakeside Pride had dozens of its members performing during the parade. Also working hard were ROTC, Chicago Spirit Brigade and the Second City Outlaws dancing cowboys. There were three motorcycle groups this year, but not Dykes on Bikes: Bikes & Mics, Chicago Gay Bikers and Organized Chaos all powered through the route. Gay Liberation Network’s large contingent was largely focused on Palestinian rights for their entry. Both professional and amateur sports teams and organizations were represented, among them Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bulls, Chicago Blackhawks, Chicago Fire, Chicago Dragons, Chicago Smelts, Chicago Gay Hockey Association and Chicago Metropolitan Sports Association. Local businesses included Sidetrack, Roscoe’s, Balloons by Tommy, Evanston Subaru in Skokie, Broadway in Chicago, GRAB and Goose Island Beer. Dozens of area churches took part in Chicago Welcoming Churches’ entry, shouting, “God is love” as they traversed the parade route. Persons from Chicago-area synagogues also marched together. Labor Unions and trade organizations included Chicago Women in Trades, Local 881 United Food and Commercial Workers, Chicago Teachers Union, United Here Local 1 and SEIU Illinois. Among corporations represented by their LGBT groups were MB Financial Bank, Discover Financial Services, Bank of America, ComEd, Anheuser-Busch, Gap, Bloomingdales, Salesforce, Macy’s, Boeing, American Airlines, United Airlines, Hyatt Hotels, Hilton Hotels, Facebook, Google, Johnson & Johnson, Chipotle, WGN, Fox 32, ABC 7, NBC 5, Univision, Deloite, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, AT&T, Comcast, T-Mobile and Pepsico. MWRD Commisioner Debra Shore, shortly before the parade started, commented on how the LGBT community cuts across every sector of society, especially in terms of “race, class and gender,” adding, “That’s why it’s so important for us to stand up for others and for them to see us stand together in all our diversity.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Since graduating two years ago from a small private high school in Queens, Ya’seen Madyun has completed a culinary training program and has attended security training courses, all in the hopes of landing a job that pays anywhere near $50,000. In January, Mr. Madyun, now 22, sought assistance at one of the city’s Workforce1 centers. He said he was directed toward an opening at a Family Dollar on New Lots Avenue in Brooklyn, a good 90-minute subway ride from his home in Far Rockaway, Queens. When he arrived, 15 people were already waiting to apply. “I’m used to a line,” Mr. Madyun said, adding that he never heard back about the job. He knows many young people in his neighborhood who are in a similar situation. “They want a full-time job,” he said, “anything 9 to 5.” It has been a year since Mayor Bill de Blasio unveiled a $1.5 billion New York Works program aimed at creating 100,000 jobs paying $50,000 or more over the next decade. The program is designed to tackle what the mayor calls an “affordability crisis” by creating jobs in fields such as technology and life sciences.)

CRAIN’S CHICAGO BUSINESS
— Madigan loosens his hold—slightly—on state Democratic Party – GREG HINZ (DIERSEN: What does Illinois Republican Party (IRP) Executive Director Andrew Collins think of you? What does he think of those like me who support the traditional family, right to life, immigration, Second Amendment, and the rest of the planks in the IRP platform?)
http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20180608/BLOGS02/180609865/madigan-loosens-his-hold-slightly-8212-on-state-democratic-party
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In the first sign that Springfield’s #MeToo scandal may be forcing Mike Madigan to loosen his grip on power—a little bit—the Illinois House speaker and state Democratic Party chairman today announced a panel headed by five women will select the next executive director of the state party, replacing the ousted Tim Mapes. The five “will conduct a thorough search and select a candidate who reflects our commitment to a strong statewide party and a better future for all,” Madigan said in a statement. “I appreciate the work they are preparing to undertake.” The actual vote will be of the 18 state central committeewoman, each of whom has been elected by Democratic voters in the state’s 18 congressional districts. Madigan himself selected the five, and some, such as Cook County Recorder of Deeds Karen Yarbrough, are considered Madigan allies. But two others—two Chicagoans, Sen. Iris Martinez and former Sen. Carol Ronen—are not. Ronen, for instance, served as informal floor leader for former Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who had a bitter relationship with Madigan. Another appointee, state Rep. Juliana Stratton, D-Chicago, is the lieutenant governor running mate of Democratic gubernatorial nominee J.B. Pritzker, suggesting he had some role in today’s developments. The fifth co-chair, Jayne Mazzotti, is a longtime fixture in Downstate Democratic Party activities.)

— Preparing for poverty: America will face a retirement funding crisis – JOHN M. DEMAGGIO (DIERSEN: How much have you saved for your retirement? I began earning credits toward my Civil Service Retirement System pension in 1966 when I was 18 years old. I should write a book about those who have been the most furious about the money that my wife and I have saved for our retirement. They stress that I avoided the draft and that my wife and I gave up trying to have children, we did not adopt, and we did not become foster parents. They shout that the federal government grossly overpaid me.)

(DIERSEN: If you believe that you have been treated unfairly by the justice system, who disagrees with you? I should write a book about those in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in Milton Township, in DuPage County, and in Illinois who side with GAO in Diersen v. GAO. GAO forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, gave me unfair performance expectations and appraisals, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, did not promote me beyond GS-13, got rid of my mentor in 1987, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take an $19,203 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980.)
