Bales’ mother, Gillian Marksberry, told WCPO that the school didn’t give her child a formal deadline to submit the graduation speech. In addition, she said school principal Mike Holtz had called her last week to remind her that diocesan officials would want Bales to dress in traditional men’s clothing and to refrain from wearing makeup or hairpins. “That was disturbing because in four years I had never received a phone call from the principal,” Marksberry told WKRC. “No one ever reached out to me to help learn about my child.” The teen pledged to continue speaking up about the issues that matter. “I think I’m going to keep fighting for what I believe in,” Bales told WKRC. “I’m going to keep using my megaphone and intensifying my voice.”)

The unilateral moves follow the president’s vows during the 2016 election to “reduce the federal workforce through attrition” and otherwise shrink the number of government employees to their lowest level in decades. The orders will give federal managers the power to fire workers alleged to be “struggling” in their performance after “improvement periods” lasting up to a single month. Previously, workers in such a status were given from 60 to 120 days to improve, depending on the agency. The orders will likewise force government unions to negotiate labor contracts with departments at a faster rate, tie layoffs to performance instead of seniority, charge unions rent for using federal office space, and limit the amount of official time an employee can spend attending to union-related affairs. “These executive orders make it easier for agencies to remove poor-performing employees and ensure that taxpayer dollars are more efficiently used,” stated White House Director of the Domestic Policy Council Andrew Bremberg. In 2001, I followed the Wheaton Park District’s Adopt-A-Park procedures and adopted the park. My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes a) continue to stress that I sued Wheaton in 1986 for approving a woefully inadequate storm water drainage plan for its Cove Court subdivision and for letting the subdivision’s developer violate the Illinois Drainage Code, b) continue to call for everyone to continue to punish me for filing that lawsuit, and c) continue to oppose my suggestions to improve the park including my suggestions to improve storm water drainage in the park.)
