NBC5
— University of Illinois-Chicago to Offer Free Rides to State’s Top Students (DIERSEN: When you were in grade school and high school, were you viewed as being “college material?” When was in grade school and in high school, I was not viewed as being “college material.” Neither of my parents had attended college. My father was the first of his ancestors to earn a high school diploma. My mother never attended high school. I spent my junior and senior years and the summer in between washing dishes for the minimum wage in the basement of the S.S. Kresges in Chicago Heights. I just barely made into the upper 20% of my class. My ACT score was only 24. I was 1-A for draft notwithstanding the fact that my eyesight could not be corrected to 20/20, I had partial red/green color blindness, and I had Osgood-Schlatter disease (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osgood%E2%80%93Schlatter_disease).)

— JB Pritzker Fields Questions from High School Students – Nick Blumberg (DIERSEN: Political consultants and campaign managers who are Democrats or Democrat plants, Libertarians or Libertarian plants, Greens or Green plants, or RINOs do not want me to ask their candidates any questions. I should write a book about the aforesaid political consultants and campaign managers and what they have done to discourage/stop me from asking their candidates any questions. Since 2005, they have viciously used against me what happened with GOPUSA, Talon News, and White House Correspondent Jeff Gannon. SEE: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talon_News They paint me as being a clone of Jeff Gannon. Ever since I became a GOPUSA reporter in 2000, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have hinted/implied/argued/shouted that I ask bad questions, and that because of that, activists, candidates, elected officials, party leaders, major donors, political consultants, etc. should a) stop me from learning about their events and other activities, b) stop me from promoting their events and other activities, c) stop me from attending their events, and d) stop me from reporting on their events and other activities.)

How successful have the “Chicago-area pro-choice activists” been in promoting hatred in your precinct, in your municipality, in your township/ward, in your county, in Illinois, and in America? I should write a book about “pro-choice activists” in my precinct, in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in Milton Township, in DuPage County, and in Illinois. They, their operatives, and their dupes played major roles in ending TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois chairmanship, Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee membership, Milton Township Republican Central Committee webmaster service, Illinois Center Right Coalition Steering Committee membership, American Association of Political Consultants Midwest Chapter board membership, GAO employment, etc.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The battle over Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation may have ended, but it’s ignited a group of Chicago-area pro-choice activists. They’re launching WomenAreTheBlueWave.com to turn red legislative seats blue. “We marched. We voted. Now we need to volunteer,” the web site states. The effort was initiated by Illinois Democratic Women and Personal PAC. “Women are going to make the difference in November here and throughout the nation and we want to help harness that energy given that more is at stake now than ever before for women and families,” says Jennifer Lee, co-President of IL Democratic Women. How it works: Women and their allies are invited to sign up at WomenAreTheBlueWave.com. They will then be connected with nearby local campaigns that need volunteer help the most to flip key state districts for candidates with pro-women and pro-choice agendas.)

https://www.theintelligencer.com/news/article/German-heritage-deep-in-Illinois-Ja-13283656.php

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Saturday is German-American Day, which is observed every Oct. 6. In Illinois, there is plenty of reason to celebrate. German ancestry remains prevalent in Illinois, as it has for a century and a half. The strength of German-Americans helped shape Illinois history through a Civil War — and two world wars against the old country. Of Illinois’ nearly 1.8 million residents in 1860, nearly 325,000 were of foreign birth. Germans were the largest ethnic group with 130,000, nearly 8 percent of the state’s total population. In Chicago, 20 percent of the population was German. Many had arrived following the failed German revolution of 1848. A heavy concentration of Germans also was found in St. Clair County, near Belleville. Others settled in cities such as Quincy, Alton, Peoria, Springfield and Galena. In the northern Illinois community of Peru, Germans made up 1,000 of the total population of 3,500 in 1854. The names of a number of communities across the state honor German heritage, including New Baden, New Minden, Germantown, Darmstadt and Meppen. Many Germans were farmers, while others were laborers, merchants and skilled tradesmen. Some followed the popular crafts of their homeland and worked as butchers, bakers, shoemakers, furniture and wagon builders, and cigar makers. Architecture of traditionally German-American buildings, often in brick, remains visible across the state. German-language newspapers were found across the state, even in the smaller cities. In 1859, future presidential candidate Abraham Lincoln bought the press and type to establish a German-language Republican paper. In Peoria, future Illinois Secretary of State Edward Rummel, a native of Baden, Germany, ran a German paper and print shop that produced materials in both German and English. John Wood, who founded the city of Quincy and served as Illinois governor for 10 months in 1860 and 1861, was born to a German mother. In 1892, Prussia native John Altgeld, best known for his pardon of three of the accused in the infamous Haymarket Riot, won election for one term as Illinois governor. Politically, Germans’ support was crucial for a candidate, and their power was felt in 1856 during the first Illinois Republican state convention. The German influence also was a key factor in the 1860 presidential race and, at the Republican National Convention in Chicago, German resolutions were even incorporated into the national platform. Germans were perceived to be staunch abolitionists, though some scholars dispute that claim. Nearly 6,000 Illinois Germans enlisted during the first six months of the Civil War, comprising almost three entire regiments. One top German commander was Friedrich Hecker, a renowned 1848 revolutionary who was a gentleman farmer near Belleville, in the heart of heavily German settlements. Another German regimental commander from St. Clair County was Gustave Koerner, who served as lieutenant governor of Illinois from 1852 to 1856 and was a pallbearer at Lincoln’s Springfield funeral. By 1910, more than 319,000 German immigrants were in Illinois, and more than 1 million people of German descent — a 10th of the national total — called the state home. With nearly 400,000 first- and second-generation German immigrants, Chicago was the sixth-largest German city on the globe in 1914. The high concentration of Germans caused some protest at the outbreak of World War I, as many of German descent decried their adopted country’s stance against their homeland. Music by German composers such as Mozart and Beethoven was banned in some public places, and some German-Americans were under surveillance by state and federal officials. Other German-Americans were forced to recite loyalty oaths in public spectacles. Within a few years, use of the once-prominent German language faded from schools and churches. As a result, many Germans in Illinois distanced themselves from their heritage. From 1914 to 1920, the number of Illinois residents who identified themselves as German on the Census dropped more than 41 percent, to 112,000. But many Germans remained loyal to the American cause and took active roles in the war effort, both at home and abroad. A quarter-century later, dislike of German residents was a minor issue in World War II, as many chose to focus their disgust on Adolph Hitler, rather than their German neighbors. Today, German heritage in Illinois is celebrated in festivals and carnivals statewide, while some communities in Chicagoland — as well as Moline, Peoria, Gibson City, Mascoutah, Waterloo and Millstadt — feature popular German restaurants. Museums and research centers on German-American history and heritage are found in several large metro areas, including Chicago, and the Quad Cities.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Hold everything. Jeanne Ives just weighed in on the governor’s race and boy is she mad. The state rep who lost to Gov. Bruce Rauner in a bitter GOP primary wants the Illinois Department of Revenue to investigate how Democrat J.B. Pritzker got a tax break by pulling toilets out of his second home, thus lowering the property value. Is this a gift to Rauner? Nope. Ives hasn’t even talked to the governor. “This is my hot-button issue,” Ives told POLITICO. “It sticks in my craw big-time. Who does that? M.K. grew up in South Dakota, the same state I did,” Ives said, referring to Pritzker’s wife. “No one does this. I don’t know where she learned these kinds of shenanigans. But normal people don’t do it. I’m angry. You don’t cheat this way. If the damned Democrats don’t prosecute this, then why would anyone stay in this state just to be treated unfairly by the political ruling class.” Hiding property wealth, says Ives, just shortchanges schools and leaves taxpayers holding the bag. Pritzker has maintained the toilets were pulled as part of a renovation project, but Ives doesn’t buy it. She’s been studying property-tax fairness for years—even talked to Rauner about legislation address how property values are assessed in Illinois. “He never took it up.” The conservative darling’s re-entry into the political fray could help advance Rauner’s case. But Rauner also has his own investigation to worry about. Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan called for a criminal probe into Rauner’s handling of the deadly Legionnaires’ disease outbreak at the Quincy veterans’ home. “We are investigating whether any laws were violated in the response to the risks of an outbreak of Legionella at the Quincy veterans’ home, where many people died,” Madigan spokeswoman Maura Possley said in a statement.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: They say money’s tight at the small district, comprised of three schools and 1,100 students. Except for Superintendent Paraday, who this year will earn a salary of $309,000. But that’s not all. Paraday’s contract also calls for a car allowance, insurance benefits, retirement annuity and other goodies driving up his annual compensation to $407,000 — the highest of any Illinois school superintendent. And that’s not all. When Paraday retires on October 31st, Calumet City taxpayers will be handing him a big Halloween treat. “Open the Books” and FOX 32 found a clause in Paraday’s contract that allows him to collect cash for unused time off. Since 2005, he’s accumulated 567 days of unused vacation, sick time and personal days. Based on Paraday’s current salary, he’ll cash those days in for more than $762,000.)

Ever-increasingly, far too many of the aforsaid promote identity politics, dependency on government, dependency on charity, LGBTQ activity, abortion, mass/illegal immigration, abolition of the First and Second Amendments, booze, gambling, pot, and other vices, patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, retaliation, and even worse things.)
https://www.nerdwallet.com/blog/finance/how-to-make-a-political-contribution/

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Make sure you can afford to donate Determine which “bucket” of your budget this donation will come from, says Craig Israelsen, executive in residence in the Financial Planning Program at Utah Valley University. Some buckets are off limits, like those for housing payments or utilities. And pulling from retirement savings is “questionable” at best, he adds. (“Our retirement is on us — nobody else is really responsible for that.”) But the money “has to come from somewhere,” Israelsen says. So would you dip into to your clothing or restaurant budget and offset a $100 contribution by, say, not shopping or dining out for a month? Would you pull $300 from your travel funds and, in doing so, commit to driving to Mom’s for Thanksgiving dinner rather than flying? Pausing to reflect on what you’d have to give up for this donation will help you rank its importance among other expenses. Maybe you decide to keep the restaurant dinners and either skip the donation or give less than you’d intended. (More on the value of small donations later.) Or maybe this reflection affirms that, yes, this contribution is important enough to make a sacrifice. (And if this exercise is a real head-scratcher, consider it your cue to build or revisit your budget.))

https://www.cnn.com/2018/09/27/politics/kavanaugh-senate-impact-house/index.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In the race against Republican Rep. Peter Roskam in the Chicago suburbs, Democrat Sean Casten has been honing in on Kavanaugh since his nomination in July, initially focusing on concerns that Kavanaugh might vote to overturn Roe v. Wade. Decades ago, Roskam’s district was represented by Henry Hyde, the namesake of the Hyde Amendment restricting federal funding for abortions. But the district’s complexion has shifted since Hyde’s time, and Casten has sought to capitalize on a growing pro-choice contingent. Casten has also used Kavanaugh’s nomination to criticize Roskam as a rubber stamp for the President; this week, the Casten campaign has promoted an ad on Facebook calling on Roskam to withdraw his support for the embattled nominee. But the dramatic hearing Thursday, including Ford’s tearful testimony, has upped the ante further. “I think it means we’re going to keep the pressure on (Roskam), that people should believe women,” said Greg Bales, Casten’s campaign manager. “She (Ford) showed incredible courage, and Peter Roskam doesn’t have the courage to stand up to Trump.” Roskam’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment. “This is an important issue,” Bales added, “and we’re going to continue bringing attention to it.”)

Frequently, I was called in to work because my coworkers had called in sick or just failed to show up for work. Even though I would have available to work every Friday, every Saturday, every Sunday, every Monday, every holiday, and every day that NIU would not be in session, my Democrat Park Forest Post Office superiors forced me to resign in September of 1969 saying that I would not be available to work enough days. They would not have done that if I had been a Democrat, a minority, a female, or a veteran. In retrospect, with benefit of hindsight, I should have filed a grievance to keep my job. But my Democrat superiors were doing everything that they could to make the Park Forest Post Office a “hostile workplace” for me. They stressed that I was avoiding the draft by seeking and obtaining student draft deferments. Virtually all my coworkers, supervisors, and superiors were veterans.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Race moves from Likely Republican to Lean Republican IL-06: Will GOP Rep. Peter Roskam, first elected amid the Democratic wave of 2006, be able to withstand the political currents of 2018? This suburban Chicago seat where a majority of residents hold a college degree is exactly the kind of district Democrats are eyeing to lift the party back to the majority in the House. Trump only received 42% of the vote here in 2016, losing the district by seven points to Clinton. That was a swing from 2012, when Romney carried the district 53% to 45%. A recent NYT/Siena poll found 57% of voters in the district disapprove of the job Trump is doing as president. That survey also found Roskam and his Democratic challenger, Sean Casten, locked in a close race at 45% to 44%. Casten, a scientist and clean energy businessman, has drawn scrutiny for some controversial statements, including comparing the President to Osama bin Laden. He later said he regretted his comments. Casten has also sought to put Roskam on defense for not being a check on the President and for supporting Trump’s agenda, especially the GOP tax plan, which the Democrat says could hurt taxpayers in the district because of the cap on state and local deductions.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Gov. Bruce Rauner says he’s a centrist while Republican, Democratic parties dominated by extremes – Rick Pearson (DIERSEN: Political parties exist to help elect candidates who can and will defend and advance their platform. Since at least 1977, the Illinois Republican Party (IRP) has been dominated by anti-conservative extremists. These anti-conservative extremists reject the traditional family, right to life, immigration, Second Amendment, and/or other planks in the IRP platform. These anti-conservative extremists do everything that they can to drive conservatives out of the IRP, that is, they do everything that they can to destroy the IRP.)

— Rauner reaching out to suburban women – Rick Pearson
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-met-attorney-general-editorial-board-meeting-20180924-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Suburban women have been a critical factor in deciding special elections this year and, amid their dissatisfaction with President Donald Trump, Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner is reaching out in a new ad. The ad features Anne Wedner, a former backer of President Barack Obama, who is founder of Kent Road Strategies, who has worked on Democratic and Republican campaigns with a focus on the North Shore. Billing herself as a lifelong Democrat, Wedner touts her childhood support for the Equal Rights Amendment and her dissatisfaction with national politics — a distancing effort from Trump aimed at helping Rauner in the suburbs while he seeks Trump supporter backing Downstate. “Today, I’m not happy with Washington and I’m also heartbroken about Illinois,” she says. “We have to fix our financial problems and Bruce Rauner is the only candidate with the courage to do it,” she adds. Wedner goes on to say the election “isn’t about party politics. This is about saving our state.” The suburban collar counties voted overwhelmingly for Hillary Clinton over Trump — except for McHenry County — in the 2016 presidential and there are GOP fears that moderate suburban women will be a major factor in Illinois’ November elections because of the controversial president. The ad can be viewed here.)

(FROM THE EDITORIAL: Plus, 2.0 would make more cuts to the estate tax that’s paid by only about 5,000 wealthy families — while permanently capping the $10,000 SALT (state and local tax) deduction that millions of taxpayers use. There’s more, but you get the drift.)

WASHINGTON POST
— ‘I know his heart’: Ashley Estes Kavanaugh revives old-fashioned script in newfangled era – Isaac Stanley-Becker (DIERSEN: Are you married? I have been married for 40 years. My Democrat IRS superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates were beyond furious when I got married in 1978. They had always painted me as being someone who so bad that no one would marry me. Many of them were never married, were divorced, had spouses who had little or no income, and/or had major marital problems.)
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2018/09/25/i-know-his-heart-ashley-estes-kavanaugh-revives-old-fashioned-script-in-newfangled-era/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Fighting to save his Supreme Court nomination, Kavanaugh was joined by his wife Monday for a Fox News interview. Ashley Estes Kavanaugh is a town manager in the Washington, D.C., suburbs and a former aide in George W. Bush’s White House, where she and Kavanaugh met. The interview was powerful proof that, even in the #MeToo moment, Wynette’s call to “show the world you love him” still carries weight, as it did for Clinton, even though she disparaged the song. The comparison is especially fitting given Kavanaugh’s role — as associate counsel in the office of independent counsel Kenneth W. Starr — in proposing sexually explicit questions for President Bill Clinton to answer about his affair with Monica Lewinsky. Asked by Fox’s Martha MacCallum whether she doubted her husband, the mother of two daughters replied, “No. I mean, I know Brett — I’ve known him for 17 years.” “And,” she continued, as her husband glanced sideways to look plaintively at her, “this is not at all characteristic. It’s really hard to believe. He’s decent. He’s kind. He’s good. I know his heart. This is not consistent with Brett.”)

— DIERSEN HEADLINE: Democrats crow about the success that Democrat teachers have in cranking out “good little Democrats.” What percent of public high school students are filled with hatred against those who are Trump supporters, Protestant, conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, German American, and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time?)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/naperville-sun/news/ct-nvs-school-mock-elections-st-0919-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Students can be a harbinger for how the actual election might go. Becky Simon, president of the League of Women Voters of Naperville, said in past elections students have been accurate in picking the winners of the popular vote. Among the 14 percent of teens at the three local high schools who voted, Democrat J.B. Pritzker was favored by 62 percent of the nearly 1,200 teens who voted. Republican incumbent Gov. Bruce Rauner came in second with 25 percent of the vote. In the 11th District Congressional race, incumbent Democrat Bill Foster led with 72 percent of the mock vote over Republican Nick Stella’s 28 percent. Democratic Secretary of State Jesse White, probably the most familiar candidate with teens because his name is on their driver’s licenses and driving permits, was the overwhelming vote-getter in all of the races, receiving 74 percent of the ballots cast. In the other races, the Democrats were on top with more than half of the teen vote.)

— The Five Battlefields for Control of the House – Astead W. Herndon
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/09/19/us/politics/midterm-elections-congressional-districts.html
(ANTI-TRUMPS SAY: Illinois’s Sixth District The suburbs of Chicago were a base of the Republican Party before Mr. Trump. One need only visit a shopping mall in Burr Ridge or a youth baseball game in Barrington Hills to see throngs of the white, highly educated voters who are the electoral backbone of the area, and once voted solidly for presidential candidates like Mitt Romney. But if these voters have leaned right in the past, drawn to promises of lower taxes and smaller government, Mr. Trump has pitched many of them back in the other direction. In Illinois’s Sixth Congressional District, the president’s combustible persona and administration have put Republican candidates in dire peril. Jane Melvin, 55, said she has typically voted Republican in the past and still yearned for a version of the party that has been fading away. “If John Kasich was running in my district, I would vote for him,” said Ms. Melvin, referring to the right-of-center Ohio governor who routinely chides Mr. Trump. Ms. Melvin said she had long supported her congressman, Peter Roskam, but was reconsidering this year because Republicans had failed to check the president. “It’s a character question and a silence question,” she said. “Because they won’t stand up to Trump and say this is wrong.” Mr. Roskam, a former member of the House Republican leadership team, represents one of 21 seats where college-educated white suburbanites could upend the Republican majority in the House. Most of these seats, in relatively homogenous communities around cities like Minneapolis and Philadelphia, are seen as electoral toss-ups. In 2016, Mr. Roskam easily secured re-election by nearly 20 percentage points, but Mrs. Clinton carried the area in the presidential race by about seven points. A Times/Siena College poll found Mr. Roskam effectively tied with his Democratic challenger, Sean Casten, a clean-energy businessman. Mr. Casten has closed in on Mr. Roskam with help from voters like Karrie Sullivan, a former Roskam supporter who said she now favors divided government — both in Washington, where Republicans are in charge, and in Illinois, where Democrats may take full control of government in November. “It seems like the best situation is when neither party has complete control,” Ms. Sullivan said. Mr. Roskam, like other Republican candidates in similar wealthy suburbs, has tried to make the Republican tax overhaul an asset to his campaign. But many suburban voters have bristled at changes to federal deductions for state and local taxes. Highlighting the gulf between the Republican white-collar base and Mr. Trump’s hard-line following, candidates like Mr. Roskam have broken with Mr. Trump on critical issues like tariffs. Pursuing both wavering moderates and hard-core conservatives, Mr. Roskam said at a recent debate that he considered Mr. Trump’s performance “middling.” “Good on the economy, jumbling on other issues,” he said.)

Mukasey and Mary B. McCord (DIERSEN: What were you doing when you were 17 years old? I worked as a part-time dishwasher for the minimum wage in the basement of the S.S. Kresges in Chicago Heights. My ACT score was only 24. Nevertheless, I got accepted by UIC. During the summer of 1966, I worked as a golf shoe cleaner for the Flossmoor Country Club, as a slag chipper for Thrall Car in Chicago Heights, and as a gasoline pumper for John’s Sinclair in South Chicago Heights. I lived with my parents and brother in Crete. I saved money for college expenses. My eyesight could not be corrected to 20/20. I had partial red/green color blindness.
