May 25 Morning Edition

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— He who pays the piper calls the tunes. Political parties exist to help elect candidates who can and will defend and advance their platform. What percent of money given to Republican activists, to Republican candidates, to Republican elected officials, and to Republican party leaders is given to get the aforesaid to:

– Dump the traditional family plank in the Republican Party platform,
– Dump the right to life plank in the platform,
– Dump the immigration plank in the platform,
– Dump the illegal drugs plank in the platform,
– Dump the Second Amendment plank in the platform,
– Dump the equal opportunity (no race or gender based preference giving) plank in the platform,
– Dump other planks in the platform,
– Dump those individuals, organizations, companies, governments, etc. that support the aforesaid planks,
– Promote dependency on government,
– Promote dependency on charity,
– Promote LGBTQ activity,
– Promote abortion,
– Promote mass/illegal immigration,
– Promote booze, gambling, pot, and other vices,
– Promote abolition of the First and Second Amendments,
– Promote patronage,
– Promote political affiliation discrimination,
– Promote reverse discrimination,
– Promote age discrimination,
– Promote legislation that promotes their personal financial and other interests, and
– Dump those individuals, organizations, companies, governments, etc. that fail/refuse to promote the aforesaid?

Needless-to-say, Republican activists, Republican candidates, Republican elected officials, and Republican party leaders should not seek or accept money from individuals, organizations, companies, etc. that want to dump planks in the Republican Party platform or to promote anything that is anti-Republican. – Dave Diersen

POLITICO
— VERY SAD: Trump donor to cut off GOP contributions over DACA – NATASHA KORECKI (DIERSEN: Overwhelmingly, those who support DACA are anti-Trump, anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-patriotic, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, anti-German Americans, and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time.)
https://www.politico.com/story/2018/05/24/trump-donor-daca-gop-david-macneili-607973
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A Chicago-area businessman who has donated more than $1 million to President Donald Trump is threatening to deny contributions to Republican candidates unless they act on an immigration bill before Congress. David MacNeil, who employs 1,600 people through his Bolingbrook-based WeatherTech automotive company, told POLITICO in an interview that the issue has grown deeply personal, given that a top employee in his company could face deportation if a deal isn’t reached for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. MacNeil is the second prominent Chicago-area businessman and GOP donor in a week to cut off or threaten to withhold campaign contributions over the immigration debate. On Wednesday, former Exelon CEO John Rowe told POLITICO he would cut off resources to Republicans who refuse to sign onto a discharge petition that would force a vote on legislation related to so-called “Dreamers,” while rewarding those who did with contributions and fundraising events. Both Rowe and MacNeil belong to the Illinois Business Immigration Coalition, which is calling on GOP lawmakers to sign the DACA discharge petition. “I’m saying this as a political donor who’s donated seven figures in the last couple of years: I will not donate any more money to anyone who doesn’t support DACA, period,” MacNeil said in a phone call while traveling in Italy. “I’m putting my money where my mouth is.” MacNeil is among the CEOs who backed Trump before the 2016 election, inspired by the campaign’s “Make America Great Again,” mantra. A Canadian emigrant who is now a U.S. citizen, MacNeil has long touted that his own products are made in America. He underwrote a Trump fundraiser in Bolingbrook just before the 2016 election, then gave $1 million to Trump’s inaugural committee. MacNeil said that a top-performing employee who has been with him for more than 10 years will represent the WeatherTech at the Governor’s Export Awards reception Thursday night, in which the company is a finalist. The employee was brought to the country as a toddler.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: A story published on Thursday in POLITICO is reporting that David MacNeil, CEO of Bolingbrook’s WeatherTech company, may stop donating to GOP candidates. The news article reminds readers that MacNeil was a huge financial backer of President Donald Trump and that MacNeil’s current frustration involves the issue of immigration, mainly the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. “I’m saying this as a political donor who’s donated seven figures in the last couple of years: I will not donate any more money to anyone who doesn’t support DACA, period,” MacNeil told POLITICO, according to the article. “I’m putting my money where my mouth is.”)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Ives backer Uihlein tells magazine he’ll vote for Rauner over Pritzker – Rick Pearson (DIERSEN: Obviously, Rauner’s political consultants tell him a) that Republicans will vote for him no matter what because Pritzker rejects more planks in the Illinois Republican Party (IRP) platform than he does, b) that Rauner should focus on getting votes from those who reject planks in the IRP platform, and c) that means dumping voters, dumping organizations, dumping companies, dumping etc. that support the traditional family, right to life, immigration, Second Amendment, and other planks in IRP platform. Further, obviously, Rauner’s political consultants tell him that more anti-Trumps than pro-Trumps will vote in the November 6, 2018 election, so he should dump voters, dump organizations, dump companies, dump etc. that support Trump. Needless-to-say, no political consultant who is a Republican would give Rauner the aforesaid advice.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-met-richard-uihlein-bruce-rauner-20180524-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: But Uihlein broke from Rauner after his signature on legislation expanding taxpayer-subsidized abortions and backed Ives, the three-term Wheaton Republican who narrowly lost to Rauner in March. Uihlein gave her $2.5 million. “Jeanne proved that people are hungry for change,” Uihlein says in the article. Author John J. Miller writes that Uihlein is “now skeptical about Rauner’s ability to deliver (change) but says that the Democratic gubernatorial candidate, J.B. Pritzker, would be a disaster for Illinois: ‘I will vote for Rauner over Pritzker.’ ” State Sen. Sam McCann, a Republican from Downstate Plainview, is also mounting a third-party bid. The article also recounts how Uihlein met John Tillman, chairman and CEO of the Illinois Policy Institute. Last decade, Tillman was looking for work after selling his used sporting goods store. “I’d been getting the Uline catalog for a while,” Tillman said. “So I wrote a letter to the owner.” The article says Tillman and Uihlein met, but their conversation turned to what was described as “Tillman’s real passion: creating a network of freedom-minded organizations in Illinois.” “Dick became my anchor donor,” Tillman says in the article, adding that Uihlein gave him $50,000 in seed money to start the institute. Millions more from Uihlein have flowed since. In February, Rauner said he wouldn’t give the institute “another nickel.”)

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-met-richard-uihlein-bruce-rauner-20180524-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Not mentioned in the article is Uihlein’s relationship with conservative talk show host and political operative Dan Proft, who played a leading role in Ives’ campaign for governor. Uihlein gave $95,000 to Proft’s failed bid for the GOP governor nomination in 2010, then gave him an additional $500,000 later to help seed Proft’s political operation. Since then, Uihlein has given Proft’s Liberty Principles political action committee $12.1 million, including $3 million in January. And Uihlein has become a prolific donor to federal candidates, including giving $100,000 to a super PAC backing Republican Roy Moore in a special Senate election in Alabama. Moore was accused of sexually molesting or assaulting teens ages 14 and 16 while he was in his 30s. Moore denied the allegations but lost the election to Democrat Doug Jones.)

My father was the first of his ancestors to earn a high school diploma. My mother never attended high school. They have demonstrated their willingness to treat our tax dollars like they are in their own personal piggy banks.” Anderson pointed to “shameful spending” in Algonquin Township, McHenry County’s most populous township and the center of budget-busting legal fees, corruption allegations and political infighting. He noted that the names of contributors will appear on reports to the state of Illinois if they donate $150 or more. “If you strongly support us but do not want to be identified by the entrenched politicians who want to perpetuate the current system, send us $149.00 and encourage your spouse, kids or a friend to make a contribution,” Anderson wrote. “It has been said that evil thrives when good people do nothing. (FROM THE ARTICLE: The Illinois Republican Party did not respond to a request for comment. Another Illinois Republican nominee for a House seat, neo-Nazi Arthur Jones, has been rejected by national Republicans and the state party for denying the Holocaust. In a 2014 post, Fawell speculated that New York City was going to be destroyed in a false flag attack by the deep state in either the year 2016 or 2017. New York City is going to be destroyed in the biggest, baddest false flag attack ever made by any organization upon the American People in a Pearl Harbor redux,” Fawell wrote. (False flag attacks are acts designed by perpetrators to look like they were carried out by other individuals or groups.) He said that the attack would be made in an attempt to drag America into war, and that financial institutions were already withdrawing money from New York in preparation for the supposed attack. In another post in 2014, he wrote that then-President Barack Obama created false flag attacks to shore up support for his foreign policy intervention against ISIS. In addition to alleging conspiracies, Fawell used sexist and racist slurs against politicians.)

Further, as documents filed in Diersen v. GAO show, my Democrat GAO superiors want me to be jobless. http://www.sacbee.com/news/article211891489.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Military veterans who were discharged for relatively minor offenses say they often can’t get jobs, and they hope a recent warning to employers by the state of Connecticut will change that. The state’s human rights commission told employers last month they could be breaking the law if they discriminate against veterans with some types of less-than-honorable discharges. Blanket policies against hiring such veterans could be discriminatory, the commission said, because the military has issued them disproportionately to black, Latino, gay and disabled veterans. At least one other state, Illinois, already prohibits hiring discrimination based on a veteran’s discharge status, advocates say, but Connecticut appears to be the first to base its decision on what it deems discrimination by the military. Regardless of the state’s reasons, veterans say, the attention there could at least educate employers.)

— Rauner’s ‘GOP Unity Week’ Fail – Rich Miller
https://capitolfax.com/2018/05/24/live-session-coverage-350/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Ives Calls for Party Leadership to Resign, Party Leaders Fight About Unity in First 2 Days This week was supposed to be a celebration of unity for Governor Bruce Rauner after he surrendered full control of the Illinois Republican Party, but it quickly fell apart for the nation’s most vulnerable incumbent. On Monday, state Representative Jeanne Ives called on the entire Republican Party leadership to resign. Then, local Republican leaders Pat Brady and Dan Proft fought in a panel titled “The Future of the Republican Party in Illinois” yesterday, even though Rauner is a sitting governor up for re-election. At one point, Proft sarcastically stated: “Right, but we can expect to unify the party and present an attractive offer when Pat is running around saying John Tillman, Dan Proft, everyone that disagrees with me is a hater, and just dismissing all the policy concerns of the conservative base of the party and telling everyone to get out. I mean, if we’re all unified, Pat, I’m sorry I guess this lunch is dismissed because we have nothing to talk about…We are on our way to super majorities and Republican Governors as far as the eye can see, and anyone who believes that please feel free to leave and get on with your day.” It did not appear that anyone left. “Bruce Rauner’s party cannot even last a day pretending like they’re unified without falling into chaos,” said DGA Illinois Communications Director Sam Salustro. “After 48% of Republicans voted to kick Rauner out, it’s not surprising that the nation’s most vulnerable incumbent is finding it impossible to put his party back together.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Chicago Public Schools’ inspector general is calling on the school district to stop offering a free full-day Montessori preschool to students from the richest neighborhood in the school district. Preschool in Chicago is typically only free for low-income students. But the tuition-free preschool at Oscar Mayer Elementary School in Lincoln Park almost exclusively serves students who live in a neighborhood of mostly upper-income homes. CPS spends about $700,000 a year on the preschool, according to a report released Wednesday. A comparable private preschool could charge parents as much as $15,000 a year. CPS Inspector General Nicholas Schuler said he was “incredulous” that there would be “this perk, for one neighborhood school, as opposed to all other schools.” The average median family income in Mayer’s attendance area — nearly $178,000 a year — is the highest of any attendance area in CPS, an analysis by the IG’s office determined.)

The Prairie Path Park is in my precinct. I knew the woman and her husband who donated the park to the Wheaton Park District. Since 1984, I have urged Wheaton and the Wheaton Park District to do more to address the park’s flooding and other problems. In 2001, I followed the Wheaton Park District’s Adopt-A-Park procedures and adopted the park. My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes a) continue to stress that I sued Wheaton in 1986 for approving a woefully inadequate storm water drainage plan for its Cove Court subdivision and for letting the subdivision’s developer violate the Illinois Drainage Code, b) continue to call for everyone to continue to punish me for filing that lawsuit, and c) continue to oppose my suggestions to improve the park including my suggestions to improve storm water drainage in the park.)

Webster, McGrath & Ahlberg currently is working on the Jefferson Avenue, Madison Avenue and Prairie Path Park Flood Prone Area Study, set for completion in July.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: “The message is very clear. Speak out against the Speaker and people loyal to him will come after you.” Those words, spoken Tuesday by Democratic state Rep. Kelly Cassidy, sadly sum up Michael Madigan’s despot-like reign over Illinois politics for more than three decades. Madigan, of course, is the “Speaker” in Cassidy’s comment. He has been Illinois’ House speaker for all but two years since 1983. He’s also been the chairman of the state Democratic Party since 1998, a position Democrats re-elected him to just last month despite a #MeToo harassment scandal swirling within his political organization. As the longest-serving legislative leader in American history and the longest-serving head of a major political party in Illinois history, Madigan wields more power than any other elected state official in the country and more than any single individual should be allowed to have. He controls the party’s campaign war chest, so he decides which Democratic candidates to fund in primary elections. He controls the rules for moving legislation through his chamber, so he decides which bills get to be voted on and which do not. He controls the legislative redistricting process, so he manipulates general elections. And because of all that, he controls the members of his Democratic caucus. Cross him, and you probably should start looking for something else to do.)

https://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/nurse-sued-hospital-retaliation-awarded-28-million-55399009
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A jury has ruled that a Boston hospital retaliated against a Haitian-American nurse who stood up for a black colleague and has awarded her $28 million. Gessy Toussaint’s attorney described Wednesday’s verdict against Brigham and Women’s Hospital as “monumental.” The Boston Globe reports that Toussaint also had accused the hospital of racial discrimination, but the jury didn’t find proof of that claim. Toussaint says the retaliation started after she defended another Haitian-American nurse, Nirva Berthold, who also is suing the hospital. Berthold says she was denied a promotion because she’s black. That claim is still pending. The hospital says it plans to appeal the retaliation ruling but is pleased with the decision on Toussaint’s discrimination claim.)

https://chicago.suntimes.com/politics/twitter-special-labels-political-candidates-prevent-spoofing-fake-accounts/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Twitter says it’s adding special labels to tweets from some U.S. political candidates ahead of this year’s midterm elections. Twitter says the move is to provide users with “authentic information” and prevent spoofed and fake accounts from fooling users. The labels will include what office a person is running for and where. Both the candidate’s account and the tweets from it will get labels. The labels will appear on retweets as well as tweets off of Twitter, such as when they are embedded in a news story. Twitter, along with Facebook and other social media companies, has been under heavy scrutiny for allowing their platforms to be misused by malicious actors trying to influence elections around the world. The labels will start to appear next week for candidates for governor and Congress. Twitter wouldn’t say whether it will extend this outside the U.S., where elections interference has also been a big issue. The San Francisco-based company is working with the nonprofit, nonpartisan Ballotpedia to help identify the relevant Twitter accounts.)
— Israel has every right to protect its citizens against an invasion by hostile masses – Aviv Ezra (DIERSEN: Needless-to-say, Democrats are closer to illegals than they are to Republicans. Ever-increasingly, Democrats shout at foreign countries and at their citizens that America is full of Republicans who are White supremacists, Nazis, KKK members, haters, racists, sexists, bigots, and even worse things who should be gotten rid of. Ever-increasingly, constructively, Democrats call for “hostile masses” to invade America and to get rid of Republicans once and for all. Consequently, ever-increasingly, Republicans are buying more and more and more firearms and ammunition for their self-defense.)

http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20180523/news/305239892/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The legislation is considered a pay-equity plan. Basing pay on salary history can hurt women. They often spend time outside the workforce for familial or other reasons not applicable to men. Democratic Sen. Cristina Castro of Elgin is the sponsor. She says the penalties in her bill keep businesses accountable. Republican Sen. Jim Oberweis of Sugar Grove says the rejected plan was a bipartisan compromise. CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Legalize pot, but don’t allow it everywhere – Tyler Cowen, Professor of Economics, George Mason University (DIERSEN: If you promote pot, you promote destruction. If the destruction-promoting Democrats legalize pot for recreational use in Illinois, at a minimum, municipalities should be allowed to ban the sale of pot in their jurisdictions, like they can ban video gambling. If you agree with me, please urge the leaders of your municipality and potential candidates for leadership positions in your municipality to pledge to ban the sale of pot in your municipality. I will lead the effort to ban the sale of pot in Wheaton like I led the efforts to ban video gambling in Wheaton in 2009 and to get Comcast to carry Fox News Channel in Wheaton in 2002. My Democrat IRS superiors did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, got rid of my mentor in 1975, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974. (FROM THE ARTICLE: Rowe is especially critical of Rep. Peter Roskam, who is locked in a competitive race — and represents a suburban Chicago district that has the largest DACA population of any Illinois member, according to the Illinois Business Immigration Commission. “I have been actively engaged with the community and various stakeholders and I will make a decision on the right course based on what’s in the best interest of these DREAMers and our nation’s border security,” Roskam said in a statement. “My hope is that Congress will reach a bipartisan agreement to protect children from deportation who were brought to the United States without documentation.” Former Illinois House GOP Minority Leader Tom Cross, who is also calling for a DACA resolution, said hitting lawmakers in their pockets may be the best way to get their attention. “John is a significant donor and has been heavily involved in the Republican Party both in the state and nationally,” Cross said. “There are all kinds of ways to impact members of Congress and the General Assembly. GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— The charges made in Winchester v. Illinois Republican Party (IRP) are extremely serious. Constructively, Winchester has charged the IRP with voter fraud. What does the IRP, that is, Bruce Rauner, want Illinois Republican Precinct Committeemen/Captains to know about Winchester v. IRP? From what I see, the answer is absolutely nothing. Needless-to-say, the less informed that Illinois Republican Precinct Committeemen/Captains are, the less creditable that they are. By its failure/refusal to communicate, the IRP motivates me to fill the communication void with GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails. – Dave Diersen

MADISON RECORD
— State central committeeman Winchester sues state GOP; case removed to federal court
https://madisonrecord.com/stories/511424774-state-central-committeeman-winchester-sues-state-gop-case-removed-to-federal-court
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Bob Winchester, central committeeman of the Illinois Republican Party since 1992, claims in U.S. district court that the party rigged an election against him. His lawyer, Stephen Boulton of Chicago, alleges that the party improperly favored State Sen. Chapin Rose of Champaign for committeeman in an election on April 18. According to Boulton’s complaint, irregularities occurred at county conventions across the 15th Congressional district. He wrote that irregularities changed the vote “from the true result, a majority in favor of Winchester, to a false result, an alleged majority in favor of Rose.” In an interview on May 21, Boulton said that he had “a number” of affidavits from Madison County which demonstrate that Bob Winchester won the election. Last month, the Record reported that precinct committee men and women in Madison County chose Winchester over Rose by a margin of approximately 60 to 40 percent, and then as a sign of unity voted by acclamation to place 100 percent of the county’s vote in favor of Winchester. Winchester filed the suit in Hardin County, against state central committee members and State Board of Elections members who certified Rose’s election. The party removed the action to federal court on May 18. Boulton’s complaint described a county convention where, “only Rose was presented as a candidate for whom votes could be cast.” “Rose alone was nominated, and by the chairman of the convention,” the complaint states. He wrote that the chairman reported a unanimous vote for Rose to party staff. Boulton said it happened in Fayette County, where Randy Pollard serves as county GOP chairman. “It was over in 45 seconds,” Boulton said. “No understood what happened.” In the complaint, he wrote that several county chairmen reported incorrect results to staff, favoring Rose and that county chairmen and staff acted as agents of the state party. He wrote that the party, through staff, participated in the election by recruiting candidates and directing candidates to withdraw. He wrote that staff opposed Winchester due to “a strong likelihood of losing their positions if the present chairman is not re-elected.” The central committee re-elected its chairman, Tim Schneider, on May 19. Boulton said the committee seated Rose over an objection. “We expected that,” he said. “If Winchester was sitting there rather than Rose, the outcome might have been different.” The court clerk assigned the action to District Judge Staci Yandle.)

PRAIRIE STATE WIRE
— Sen. Rose ‘railroaded’ over incumbent by GOP in State Central Committeeman race, affidavit says – Karen Kidd
https://prairiestatewire.com/stories/511425048-sen-rose-railroaded-over-incumbent-by-gop-in-state-central-committeeman-race-affidavit-says
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A Fayette County Precinct committeeman said he was “confused” by a “nomination process” in April that somehow led to a win for state Sen. Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet) over Robert Winchester, the longtime incumbent in the race for Republican State Central Committeeman in the 15th Congressional District, according to an affidavit obtained by Prairie State Wire. “After this sequence of rapid nomination and voice vote on closing nominations, which in my best estimate took much less than a minute, I turned to a colleague and asked, ‘What just happened?’,” Fayette County Precinct Committeeman Glen Mills said in the affidavit filed with the Illinois Board of Elections. Mills, a Brownstown resident, said in his affidavit that he “later learned” Randy Pollard, Rauner’s downstate director who acted as chair during the convention when the election took place, “reported the vote for Fayette County as unanimous in favor of Chapin Rose.” Mills claims in his affidavit that draft minutes from the convention back up his own memories about how Rose came to win the seat on the Republican State Central Committee that had been held by Winchester since 1992. “The only word I can use to describe the election proceeding on a subjective level is that the election of Mr. Rose was intentionally ‘railroaded’ through the convention at high speed while this precinct committeeman (Mills) was confused by the process,” Mills said in his affidavit. “I do not believe I was given a fair chance to vote for Mr. Winchester in the election for State Central Committeeman for the 15th District conducted on April 18, 2018, or even the opportunity to vote ‘present’ or otherwise not have my precinct’s weighted vote be counted for Mr. Rose.” In April, sources informed Prairie State Wire that Winchester had retained counsel to launch a challenge to voting procedures in his Republican State Central Committee re-election bid. Rose, an assistant Republican caucus leader, has represented the 51st district since 2013, having previously been a member of the state House for about a decade. The Illinois state Senate’s 51st District encompasses all of Dewitt, Piatt, Moultrie, Douglas and Shelby counties and parts of McLean, Champaign, Vermilion, Edgar and Macon counties. Sources told Prairie State Wire in April that the state GOP had run Rose against the incumbent Winchester to punish Winchester for backing Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) in her strong but unsuccessful March primary bid against Gov. Bruce Rauner. Earlier this month, Winchester’s attorney, Steve Boulton of Peraica & Associates in Chicago, said in a letter to state GOP General Counsel John Fogarty that the race results had been determined by a “group of unelected and merely appointed staff members” with “personal and financial interests” in the re-election of current state GOP Chairman Tim Schneider. “The procedure may have well have been employed before, but it is not properly authorized and stands in contravention of the plain language of the Election Code,” Boulton wrote in his letter. “Repetition of an unlawful practice does not make it legal. If such were true bank robbery would be legal today.” In his complaint filed in federal court, Winchester alleged the Illinois Republican party rigged the April 18 election against him. In an interview published this week in the Madison-St. Clair Record, Boulton claimed to have “a number” of affidavits that prove Winchester actually won the election. A source told the Prairie State Wire that Winchester was not even mentioned as an option by Pollard and that he’d called for a voice vote during the April 18 election. “Pollard asked for a voice vote by acclamation for Chapin (Rose) and just moved on,” a source said. “He didn’t even mention Winchester was a candidate, much less the incumbent.” Mills, in his affidavit, described what happened as slightly different from what the source described. Pollard, “very politically powerful in Fayette County,” supported Rose before the convention, “which was confirmed when Mr. Pollard had papers distributed to the Convention supporting Mr. Chapin (Rose), including to me, an action which I considered improper,” Mills said in his affidavit. “At the commencement of the election Mr. Pollard announced that there were two candidates for State Central Committeeman, Chapin Rose and Robert Winchester,” the affidavit said. “After announcing the candidates, Mr. Pollard immediately called for ‘nominations’ which caused me great confusion since he had just announced the two candidates. I did not know what the nominations were for, or what purpose they served, given that the candidates had just been announced.” Pollard then nominated Rose, who “received an immediate second,” the affidavit said. “I remained confused by this procedure, since the candidates were already announced by Mr. Pollard and I was trying to grasp why a nomination process was being conducted at all. In very short order, a voice vote to close nominations occurred, and Mr. Pollard declared the election over. I do not recall any actual vote for Mr. Chapin (Rose) at all.” Mills said in his affidavit that he reviewed draft minutes from the convention, a copy of which was attached to his affidavit, and found they “comport with my recollection that no election vote was actually taken.” “Further, the minutes reflect that Mr. Pollard nominated Mr. Rose only after asking for nominations three times,” the affidavit said. “This comports with my recollection that the actual sequence of from [sic] nomination of Mr. Rose to closing of nominations was very quick.” Pollard, Mills and Rose did not immediately respond to Prairie State Wire requests for comment.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Drama continues in state GOP ranks – Rick Pearson
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-met-chicago-fop-protest-20180521-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Illinois Republican Party held its organizational meeting Saturday and re-elected Gov. Rauner’s handpicked chairman as part of a compromise with insurgent conservatives. But despite that attempt to show unity, the battle is continuing and may end up in a federal courtroom. Bob Winchester, a former state representative from Rosiclare, had been the longest-serving member of the Republican State Central Committee, serving since 1992. Winchester is an opponent of Rauner and party Chairman Tim Schneider, and he was challenged for re-election by state Sen. Chapin Rose of Mahomet. The State Board of Elections certified Rose as the winner at a special May 10 meeting and said it didn’t have the authority to investigate what Winchester alleges were misdeeds that made Rose the victor to represent the 15th Congressional District GOP. Winchester’s attorney, Stephen Boulton, said he filed suit a week ago in Downstate Hardin County to try to stop Rose from being seated, but his office said the case was not electronically recorded as being filed until late last week, too late to prevent Rose from being seated. The lawsuit contends both the state GOP and the State Board of Elections violated Winchester’s federally constitutionally protected due process rights and that county vote totals were changed to a “false result” in favor of Rose. The Illinois GOP has filed notice to move the case to the U.S. District Court in Benton. “The Illinois Republican Party is confident that the State Central Committee elections were conducted in accordance with state law, our party bylaws, and in an open and transparent manner,” Illinois Republican Party Executive Director Andrew Collins said in a statement. “We are also confident that the results reported to the party by the county Republican central committees were accurate, that the State Board (of Elections) certification of those results was proper and that the results are now final,” Collins said.)

https://prairiestatewire.com/stories/511424464-no-deal-battle-over-allegedly-rigged-illinois-gop-vote-moves-forward-in-court
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Sources present said Illinois GOP general counsel John Fogarty was asked about the lawsuit and evidence during an executive session on Saturday. He responded that he “wasn’t worried” about it. Flipping Winchester’s seat on the state central committee was critical if Rauner were to secure the re-election of Illinois GOP Chairman Tim Schneider of Elk Grove Village, a close ally, hand-picked by the governor in 2014. With Rose’s vote, Schneider was re-elected Saturday. If the election stands, he and Lake County GOP Chairman Mark Shaw will serve as co-chairmen for the next four years. Deals, and Democrats Sources tell Prairie State Wire that Shaw tried furiously last week to strike a deal with Winchester to get him to drop his lawsuit, offering to give his deputy a high-ranking party position and to “find a job” for a family member in state government. But Winchester refused. Overtures were also made to Winchester’s lawyers, who were asked if a deal could be made to get them to withdraw from the case. . .Conservative skepticism Winchester has been critical of Rauner and Schneider; he supported State Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) in her challenge to Rauner in March. Ives defended Winchester and criticized the party’s treatment of him. “If the story is true that Rauner allies promised jobs in exchange for Bob Winchester withdrawing his lawsuit against the party, then everyone in our party leadership who knew about it should resign immediately,” said Ives. “They have been lying to the grassroots long enough. If party leadership thinks we will now turn a blind eye to corruption, then it just goes to show you how out of touch they are. “We won’t win if we can’t be honest, and we don’t deserve to win if we can’t be honest. Republicans need to lead by example, not play the same political games that the Democrats do,” she said. Shaw had originally sought to challenge Schneider for the chairmanship and had earned the support of Ives and State Rep. David McSweeney (R-Barrington Hills). That was until late last week, when Shaw announced he had struck a deal to share the party chairmanship with Schneider and drop his challenge.)

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
— Many Americans have less than $5k set aside for retirement (DIERSEN: Are you on track to have “80 percent of your former earnings” when you retire? In today’s dollars, my “former earnings” was $125,325. 80% of that is $100,260, but my Civil Service Retirement System pension is only $51,864, or only 41% of my “former earnings.”)
https://chicago.suntimes.com/working/many-americans-have-less-than-5k-set-aside-for-retirement/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: We’re told of the importance of saving for retirement, especially given the way healthcare and other senior living costs continue to rise. But apparently, a large number of workers aren’t listening. In fact, one-third of Americans have less than $5,000 set aside for the future, according to new data from Northwestern Mutual. Incidentally, 21 percent of Americans have no retirement savings at all. It’s one thing to have less than $5,000 in your nest egg when you’re only in your 20s or even 30s. But if you’ve been in the workforce for quite some time, that $5,000 doesn’t paint a great picture. And if you don’t take steps to ramp up, you’ll be sorry for it later on. Social Security just won’t cut it Many workers don’t save for the future because they assume they can live on Social Security. But that’s a dangerous, misguided assumption. In a best-case scenario, Social Security will replace about 40 percent of the average earner’s pre-retirement income. Most seniors, however, need double that amount to live comfortably. Even if you’re willing to cut corners in retirement, you can only slash so many basics. You’ll still need a roof over your head, a way of getting around town, and food on the table. Therefore, a frugal lifestyle might allow you to get away with spending a bit less than 80 percent of your former earnings, but not much. That means that while your Social Security income will help cover the bills when you’re older, you still will need a nice amount of savings to avoid falling short.)

— Are you a Republican Precinct Committeeman/Captain? What information do you hope to get about today’s Illinois Republican County Chairman’s Association (IRCCA) meeting and today’s Illinois Republican Party (IRP) State Central Committee (SCC) meeting, from who do you hope to get that information, and when do you hope to get that information? I hope to get a report on who spoke at the meetings, major announcements that were made, votes that were taken, the outcomes of those votes, and when and where the next meeting will be held. Most importantly, what did Mark Shaw specifically promise to do concerning conservatives?  I hope to get email reports from my IRP county chairman and from my IRP SCC member. I hope to get those reports before I send out this evening’s GOPUSA ILLINOIS email. Historically, beyond outrageously, beyond unacceptably, Illinois Republican Precinct Committeemen/Captains have only gotten reports of what happened at IRCCA and IRP SCC meetings from the Democrat news media. (FROM THE ARTICLE: As lawmakers in Springfield careen toward a May 31 adjournment deadline, let’s get a few things straight. They haven’t agreed yet on a balanced budget for the fiscal year that starts in six weeks. They haven’t passed legislation to deal with the state’s alarming pension debt. They haven’t negotiated changes to programs that would make Illinois more business and tax friendly. The willful negligence of floating past the most serious challenges facing Illinois is repeating itself. No one should be surprised. The Illinois legislature is an avoidance expert. Fed-up residents respond by fleeing the state in alarming droves. State universities struggle to attract and keep students. Property taxes remain among the highest in the country.)

SAN DIEGO UNION TRIBUNE

Should I sue my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes?)
http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/opinion/readers-rep/sd-me-readersrepnb-0520-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: he correction ran on the upper left corner of B1 May 12. Experienced news readers know that if a correction runs on a front page, the error has to be big. Indeed, it was. The entire premise of the Michael Smolens column that ran the day before was erroneous. Smolens, a highly experienced former political reporter and government editor, wrongly reported that John Cox, a Republican gubernatorial candidate, discusses issues with disgraced ex-San Diego Mayor Bob Filner. The factual error was bad enough, but it also has led to suspicions of biased coverage and “gotcha journalism” over fairness. What appeared to be a tantalizing news lead came out of a meeting Cox had with the U-T editorial board April 23. Smolens was sitting in on the meeting to gather possible subject matter for his column. Cox was talking about getting a statistic on pensions and developing a relationship with Bob Fellner — NOT Filner.)

May 18 Morning Edition

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— Are you a Republican Precinct Committeeman/Captain in Illinois? Tomorrow, all 102 Illinois Republican Party (IRP) county party chairman and all 18 IRP State Central Committee (SCC) members are scheduled to meet in Springfield. Have you received notification of the time and location of the Illinois Republican County Chairman’s Association (IRCCA) meeting and/or IRP SCC meeting? Have you been invited to attend the meetings? Have you been asked to provide input for the agendas for the meetings, and if so, what input did you provide? Have you received a copy of the agendas for the meetings? Are you going to attend the meetings? Have you been provided with all the details of the deal struck between Bruce Rauner and Mark Shaw to placate the “conservative insurgents” in the IRP, that is, the 342,906 who voted for Ives? Do you approve or disapprove of that deal? Why? Have you asked your IRP county chairman and your IRP SCC member to vote for or against the deal? Will your IRP county party chairman email you a report of what happened at the May 19 IRCCA meeting? Will your IRP SCC member email you a report of what happened at the May 19 IRP SCC meeting?

What do you want Mark Shaw to do in his roles as the Co-Chairman of the IRP and the President of the IRCCA to organize Illinois conservatives and to “lead conservative and grassroots outreach for the” IRP? Should he:

  1. Encourage Rauner to sign a pledge to defend and advance all the planks in the IRP platform, including its traditional family, right to life, immigration, and Second Amendment planks?
  2. Identify who the conservative leaders are in each county in Illinois, meet with them on a one on one basis, meet with them at regional meetings, and/or meet with them at statewide meetings?
  3. Identify who the conservative leaders are in Illinois on a platform plank basis, including those who have taken the lead on the traditional family, right to life, immigration, and Second Amendment planks and meet with them on a one on one basis, meet with them at regional meetings, and/or meet with them at statewide meetings?
  4. Encourage Dave Diersen to form the “Republican Assembly of DuPage County” to reach out to and organize the conservatives in DuPage County?
  5. Encourage all Illinois conservatives and Republicans to read GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails?
  6. Encourage all Illinois conservative and Republican leaders to keep diersen@aol.com on their press advisory and press release lists? – Dave Diersen

ILLINOIS REVIEW
— RAUNER – YAY!
http://illinoisreview.typepad.com/illinoisreview/2018/05/rauner-yay.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Yay! Yay, teachers! Yay, [Democrat Illinois Supreme Court Justice] Ann Burke! Yay, Israel! Yay, Eunice Shriver! Yay, Kennedys! Yay, [Loyola] Ramblers! CapitolFax’s Rich Miller pulled together Governor Rauner uncomfortably “yaying” for an array of interesting folks, groups and other miscellaneous cheering reasons. Missing from the collection, though, is Governor Rauner’s “Yay, Planned Parenthood! Yay, Sanctuary state! Yay, Rauner Party leadership that stopped the IL GOP Platform-hugging conservative wing’s insurgent takeover!”)
— THORNER/O’NEIL: TIME TO HOLD CHURCH LEADERS RESPONSIBLE FOR PARISHIONERS’ POLITICS (DIERSEN: I should write a book about those who are a member of a church, attend church services, and/or give money to a church who claim to be Republican, but a) who promote dependency on government and on charity, b) who promote booze, gambling, pot, and/or other vices, c) who promote LGBTQ activity, d) who promote abortion, e) who promote illegal immigration, and/or f) who promote other planks in the Democrat, Libertarian, and/or Green platforms.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE

That’s all good;” d) say that Rauner sees the recent Illinois Republican Party (IRP) leadership deal as giving Ives voters a “larger voice” in the IRP; and d) say that Rauner sees the deal as “a sign of unity for his re-election efforts.” Are you a “conservative insurgent,” that is, were you one of the 342,906 who voted for Ives? I did. Do you believe the deal will give you a greater voice in the IRP? How did you learn of the deal? If you are a Republican Precinct Committeeman/Captain, did you first learn of the deal a) from the IRP, b) from your representative on the IRP State Central Committee, c) from the officers of your IRP county party organization, d) from the officers of your IRP township/ward party organization, e) from the Democrat news media, or f) from Dave Diersen and his GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails?)

My father was the first of his ancestors to earn a high school diploma. My mother never attended high school. I spent my junior and senior years and the summer in between washing dishes for the minimum wage in the basement of the S.S. Kresges in Chicago Heights.
