(FROM THE ARTICLE: Reverend Jesse Jackson is working with the victims of a racist incident at a Naperville Buffalo Wild Wings to get corporate commitments to avoid a boycott of the chain. . .There are now threats of a national boycott if Buffalo Wild Wings doesn’t make improvements. Jackson said he and Rainbow PUSH Coalition will stand with the families to come up with a path forward. He is looking for commitments from the company to stave off a boycott. “Not only that the family get the proper apology that they deserve, but more than that,” Jackson said. “Not only is equal treatment at stake but equal access to franchises and construction. We cannot just be customers, we must be partners in the process.” Buffalo Wild Wings said the company has been in touch with the families and the governor, and is implementing new anti-racism policies in hiring and management practices and welcomes constructive feedback. Apologies alone at this point won’t be enough. “Because that would not have been sufficient for Dr. King as it related to Miss Rosa Parks getting an apology from the bus company,” said Bishop Tavis Grant. “We need systematic constructive change. The roots out uproots racism at its very core.” Jackson stressed he wants to avoid a boycott. Buffalo Wild Wings said 22 percent of its franchises are minority-owned, and by 2020 their largest franchise will be African-American owned. (FROM THE ARTICLE: According to the police report, a man with a swastika tattoo and his female acquaintance told police they had been regulars at the restaurant for the last two to three years, visiting almost every Saturday to watch college football and hockey. The couple had been sitting at a table for four in the restaurant for about two hours when staff seated the group of 18 directly behind them, the police report said. Both the man and woman told investigators they never spoke with any of the members of the large group nor did they ask employees to move the group. The woman told police she pulled their table 5 to 10 inches away from the group so servers could move more freely between the tables. According to police reports, the man told an investigator that Buffalo Wild Wings employees “had heard him make racist jokes and comments in the past.” As a result, some members of the staff “took it upon themselves to tell the large group of (redacted) that they needed to move due to (redacted) being a racist.” . . . One employee told police “the couple has made several negative comments in the past about black people.” A restaurant manager told police that after the Oct. 26 incident, several employees reported past inappropriate conduct from the couple. The manager said he had been unaware of the previous conduct. “If someone other than a Caucasian employee would bring them food, (redacted) would refuse the food and send it back to the kitchen,” the police report stated. One of the employees, in a written statement to police, blamed miscommunication by the staff for the drama on Oct. 26. Marshall said authorities found no evidence of a hate crime and no charges were filed as a result of the incident. A member of the Buffalo Wild Wings corporate communications team previously said the company fired two employees involved in the incident and banned the man employees identified as racist from its restaurants.)
