Ali was convicted in 1967 for refusing to report for induction into the United States military during the Vietnam War. His local draft board rejected his application for conscientious objector classification. “He was, look, he was not very popular then, certainly his memory is popular now,” Trump told reporters as he prepared to leave the White House on Friday en route to a Group of Seven economic summit in Canada. “I’m thinking about that very seriously, and some others, and some folks that have some sentences that aren’t fair.”)

— Illinois Governor’s race on pace to shatter spending record – Andrew Feather (DIERSEN: As November 6 approaches, I expect that voters will increasingly take their anger against negative ads out on their precinct committeeman/captain. (FROM THE ARTICLE: And with the increased funds come increased ad buys. Though campaigns typically wait until about September to advertise heavily for the general election, both Rauner and Pritzker placed multimillion dollar ad campaigns across the state this week, spending Jackson says won’t let up through election day. “By September and October most people are going to be tired of the negative ads and be wishing that November 6 would come soon,” Jackson said.)

https://www.npr.org/2018/06/07/618012752/republicans-exploring-options-to-block-trump-administrations-tariffs
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Our next guest is Republican Congressman Peter Roskam, who represents an Illinois district near Chicago. Welcome to the program. PETER ROSKAM: Thank you for having me on. SHAPIRO: You’ve supported targeted measures on some steel imports like those from China. What makes these different? ROSKAM: What makes these different is these are going after our allies with whom we really have no conflict. And I think that this will have an adverse impact on small manufacturers in my constituency that I’ve heard directly from – and not just the manufacturers but obviously their employees and clearly American consumers. I think the smarter move is for us to focus our time and energy on China, which – there’s all kinds of trade infractions. And this is not well-placed resources in a fight that we really shouldn’t be having right now. SHAPIRO: President Trump doesn’t appear to be backing down. Do you think it’s now the role of Congress to stop him through legislation? ROSKAM: So the challenge with stopping the president through legislation obviously is the president would have to sign the bill. So said another way, these original trade structures were put in place to give presidents authorities to ease up on trade tariffs and to make it easier for commerce to pass between countries. It was not necessarily contemplated that you’d have a president that was tougher on a country than Congress was. So I think we’re very much in the persuasion mode. I had a meeting today along with some others with Secretary Ross. I’m heading into a meeting with Ambassador Lighthizer, giving voice to these concerns. And I think when push comes to shove, one of the voices that’s going to have a disproportionately significant impact is American agriculture because they’re ashen-faced at the idea of getting into a trade war.)

That all came to a head during the mid-1990s when Republican Newt Gingrich dramatically cut GAO’s budget. By forcing me to take their early retirement “offer” in 1997 when I was 49 years old, they sent a very clear message to Newt Gingrich and to everyone else that if Republican politicians cut budgets, Republican employees will suffer.)

WTHR
— Iowa GOP zero in on wealth of Democratic governor candidate – AP (DIERSEN: I should write a book about my Democrat superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates who worked the hardest to paint me as someone a) who was undeservedly filthy rich and b) who had so much money that he did not need a job, let alone promotions. They stressed the new cars, real estate, vacations, collector cars, etc. that I bought. They stressed the money that I spent on tuition and books to earn job-related master’s degrees and job-related professional certifications. They painted themselves as being hardworking employees who had financial problems and who needed promotions.)
https://www.wthr.com/article/iowa-gop-zero-in-on-wealth-of-democratic-governor-candidate

(FROM THE ARTICLE: For a Republican Party that celebrates capitalism and the American dream of building wealth, the GOP’s initial line of attack against the new Iowa Democratic nominee for governor appears a bit out of character. Fred Hubbell, a former life insurance executive whose family wealth dates back to the mid-1800s, won the Democratic nomination Tuesday and will face Gov. Kim Reynolds in November. Almost immediately, Reynolds and party leaders questioned how voters could trust a candidate who was born rich and later served in leadership roles at several companies. Hubbell’s family businesses in Des Moines include ties to real estate and insurance. “The issue isn’t that Fred Hubbell has been rich his entire life, it’s that he has no idea what it’s like not to be,” said Reynolds during her election night speech. “He has no idea what it’s like to balance a family checkbook or to make the tough decisions most of us make each and every day when we’re trying to make ends meet.” Republican Party of Iowa Chairman Jeff Kaufmann has chimed in by repeatedly referring to Hubbell, 67, as “Prince Frederick.” On election night, the party posted a photo-shopped image of Hubbell on its Facebook page as the Monopoly board game mascot, with a top hat, monocle and bags of money surrounding him. Never mind that Reynolds and Iowa GOP party leaders are big supporters of President Donald Trump, a rich businessman who surrounds himself with conspicuous wealth at his lavish properties such as Mar-a-Lago. In the Iowa governor’s race between a woman of modest means and a man who donated nearly $3 million of his own money toward his primary race, the GOP so far is zeroing in on personal wealth. It’s a strategy tried before as more rich candidates run for office from both parties, many of them also funneling millions of dollars to fund their own campaigns. In neighboring Illinois, for example, Democrat J.B. Pritzker, a billionaire member of the family that founded Hyatt hotels, has put more than $100 million of his own money into his bid to unseat Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner, a wealthy former private equity investor. When he won in 2014, Rauner was accused of trying to buy the election.)

http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2018/06/07/dunkin-wont-leave-board-despite-rauners-request/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The reason? An accusation on Wednesday from Sherri Garrett, a longtime aide to Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan. “In spring of 2013, former (Illinois) State Representative Ken Dunkin approached the house well and said to me and another woman ‘I want to take both of you home and see which one will be the naughtiest,’” said Garrett. J.B. has time to answer questions about concerts, TV shows and favorite seasons, but when it comes to running the state of Illinois, he’s gotta go. Nothing about the pension crisis, the budget crisis, the tax crisis, the education crisis, the innocent people getting shot every day in Chicago crisis (including kids sitting on their front stoop), people leaving in Illinois in droves crisis or the what kind of sandwich does Michael Madigan want crisis, and he’s gotta go.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Klepper poked fun at Jackson during a May 30 segment called “Fringewatch: 2018.” In the segment, Klepper ribbed Jackson for changing his name from Benjamin Winderweedle in 2017, accusations made by the ex-wife regarding the way Jackson punished his children, and the size of Jackson’s belt buckle. . .On May 31, Lake County Judge Joseph Salvi ruled Jackson is in contempt of court for not paying money he owes his ex-wife for child support, education, and other related expenses. Jackson has until Aug. 6 to pay his ex-wife more than $3,000 or face incarceration for up to six months, court records show. Jackson has repeatedly said he’s a victim of a rigged legal system that forces him to pay excessive amounts to see his children. He has said he is unemployed and living exclusively on disability and pension payments from serving 20 years in the Navy. He’s said in court he takes home about $4,500 a month from those benefits. Payments for his children total about $2,500 per month, an amount Jackson said in court that he can’t afford. Parental rights is a key campaign issue for Jackson, who was named the Libertarian gubernatorial candidate in March.)

— If governor gives nod, teachers’ salaries will rise $8,000 in 4 years – Angela Underwood (DIERSEN: What salary did you start at? In 1971, after I had earned a bachelor’s degree in management from NIU in 1970 and had worked for Firestone Stores as a Retail Sales Manager, I started at IRS as a GS-7 (currently $45,703/year) Revenue Officer. Very few accept job offers from IRS because IRS employees are viciously demonized, viciously denigrated, and viciously condemned. Factors that encouraged me to accept IRS’s offer included a) I was unemployed because Firestone had fired me because I had accepted a job offer from Oldsmobile, but Oldsmobile had withdrawn that offer saying that it had just agreed to stop hiring Whites to settle an EEOC complaint, b) I had been granted a financial hardship draft deferment to help support my mother and brother, and c) I would start with almost 3 years of federal seniority and lots of sick leave because I had worked for the Post Office 1966-1969 and had used virtually none of the sick leave that I had earned.)

— Seeking a pardon from Trump? Cable TV is becoming a popular place to make an appeal – John Wagner (DIERSEN: Should I ask Trump to “wipe clean” the a) adverse actions that my Democrat superiors in the federal government took against me and b) the adverse actions that my TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois, Wheaton Chamber of Commerce, Milton Township Republican Central Committee, Illinois Center Right Coalition, and American Association of Political Consultants critics/opponents took against me? Just kidding.)
https://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Seeking-a-pardon-from-Trump-Cable-TV-is-becoming-12975323.php

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Under President Donald Trump, cable television is rapidly becoming the government’s new pardons office. On Thursday, former CIA officer John Kiriakou became the latest person to take to the talk-show circuit, making a direct appeal to the president to wipe clean his conviction for leaking the identity of a fellow CIA officer. “I would be forever indebted to him for a pardon,” Kiriakou said during an interview on “Fox & Friends” on Fox News, a program that Trump often watches as part of his morning routine. Kiriakou was charged in 2012 with leaking classified information about the CIA waterboarding of an al-Qaida suspect at a secret site in Thailand. He argued Thursday that he was unfairly targeted by former CIA director John Brennan, who has since become a vocal critic of Trump’s actions related to the Russian investigation and other matters.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The language was added when Vice President Mike Pence was governor. But it is omitted from the latest draft of Indiana Republican Party’s platform. Delegates will be able to vote on the platform when they meet in Evansville next weekend. GOP Chairman Kyle Hupfer tells the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette that the new draft is a “compromise” that includes language that is inclusive. He says the party’s goal was “to try not to offend anyone.” Not everyone is happy with the proposed change. Micah Clark, executive director of the socially conservative American Family Association of Indiana, called it a “weak statement” that was “pure mush.”)

Since 1966, my Democrat critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have wanted to limit my Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) pension. According to them, only Democrats should get CSRS pensions. They are overjoyed a) that my Democrat GAO superiors forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, and did not promote me beyond GS-13, b) that my Democrat IRS superiors did not promote me beyond GS-12, and c) that my Democrat Post Office superiors forced me resign in 1969.)

AMERICAN THINKER
— Affirmative action in the control tower – Willie Shields (DIERSEN: I should write a book about Affirmative Action at GAO, at IRS, and at the Post Office.)
https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2018/06/affirmative_action_in_the_control_tower.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: I don’t fly. When folks ask me why, the short answer is that I know too much: I’m a former FAA air traffic controller. It’s been recently reported that the FAA is now actively recruiting new trainees to work in the towers and control rooms directing airplanes and that the criteria they now utilize to screen applicants is a curiously absurd “biographical questionnaire.” Jason L. Riley in the Wall Street Journal: “A recently completed six-month investigation by Fox Business Network found that the Federal Aviation Administration has quietly moved away from merit-based hiring criteria in order to increase the number of women and minorities who staff airport control towers. The changes come despite the fact that the FAA’s own internal reports describe the evidence for changing the hiring process as “weak.” Until 2013, the FAA gave hiring preference to controller applicants who earned a degree from one of its Collegiate Training Initiative schools and scored high enough on an eight-hour screening test called the Air Traffic Selection and Training exam, or AT-SAT, which measures cognitive skills. The Obama administration, however, determined that the process excluded too many from minority groups. In May 2013, the FAA’s civil rights administrator issued “barrier analyses” of the agency’s employment procedures, which recommended “revising how the AT-SAT is used in establishing best-qualified lists.” By the start of last year, the FAA was using a biographical questionnaire (BQ) to initially vet potential hires. The questions – “How many sports did you play in high school?”, “What has been the major cause of your failures?” – seem designed to elicit stories of personal disadvantage or family hardship rather than determine success on the job.” I can tell you with absolute certainty that the FAA Air Traffic Control Division has been down with the affirmative action program for a long time. The PATCO controllers’ strike during the summer of 1981 seemingly gave the “fire whitey” gang the opening they craved. There was one problem. The air traffic system needed to get back up and running smoothly, and especially safely, so that Ronald Reagan’s mass firing would look reasonable. So they quickly hired aviation-experienced people, including pilots and experienced military air traffic controllers. I was one of them. Granted, some of these well qualified new guys were black, but no one would look upon this new controller work force and call it a model of so-called diversity. The big push for hiring other than pale males would have to wait. Safety first, as it were. A few things happened in the next few years. First, the FAA stopped reporting aviation incidents, including near mid-air collisions and runway incursions. When safety incidents are under-reported or deceitfully downgraded, the system starts to look like perfection, and the FAA will gladly report, as it frequently does, that it is “The Safest System In The World.” These people want the flying public to skate out onto the ice, even as they are lying about how thin the ice is, and while we are at it, how warm it is today.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: And the leading contenders to win on Tuesday are particularly burdened by political and personal baggage that offer another contrast with Mr. Brown as he prepares to retire to his ranch. Two of the Democrats — Mr. Villaraigosa and Gavin Newsom, the lieutenant governor — were involved in high-profile affairs while they were in public office in the mid-2000s, episodes that have been raised against them during a candidate debate and in a handful of advertisements at a time of heightened awareness of sexual misconduct.)

https://capitolfax.com/2018/05/24/live-session-coverage-350/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Ives Calls for Party Leadership to Resign, Party Leaders Fight About Unity in First 2 Days This week was supposed to be a celebration of unity for Governor Bruce Rauner after he surrendered full control of the Illinois Republican Party, but it quickly fell apart for the nation’s most vulnerable incumbent. On Monday, state Representative Jeanne Ives called on the entire Republican Party leadership to resign. Then, local Republican leaders Pat Brady and Dan Proft fought in a panel titled “The Future of the Republican Party in Illinois” yesterday, even though Rauner is a sitting governor up for re-election. At one point, Proft sarcastically stated: “Right, but we can expect to unify the party and present an attractive offer when Pat is running around saying John Tillman, Dan Proft, everyone that disagrees with me is a hater, and just dismissing all the policy concerns of the conservative base of the party and telling everyone to get out. I mean, if we’re all unified, Pat, I’m sorry I guess this lunch is dismissed because we have nothing to talk about…We are on our way to super majorities and Republican Governors as far as the eye can see, and anyone who believes that please feel free to leave and get on with your day.” It did not appear that anyone left. “Bruce Rauner’s party cannot even last a day pretending like they’re unified without falling into chaos,” said DGA Illinois Communications Director Sam Salustro. “After 48% of Republicans voted to kick Rauner out, it’s not surprising that the nation’s most vulnerable incumbent is finding it impossible to put his party back together.”)

— Inspector General: End Public School Perk For Chicago’s Wealthiest – Sarah Karp (DIERSEN: For your precinct, a) what is the “average median family income” and b) how much money in real estate taxes do homeowners pay on average and in total?)
https://www.wbez.org/shows/wbez-news/inspector-general-end-public-school-perk-for-chicagos-wealthiest/fefe7006-39a4-4962-a639-1cacf31826c0
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Chicago Public Schools’ inspector general is calling on the school district to stop offering a free full-day Montessori preschool to students from the richest neighborhood in the school district. Preschool in Chicago is typically only free for low-income students. But the tuition-free preschool at Oscar Mayer Elementary School in Lincoln Park almost exclusively serves students who live in a neighborhood of mostly upper-income homes. CPS spends about $700,000 a year on the preschool, according to a report released Wednesday. A comparable private preschool could charge parents as much as $15,000 a year. CPS Inspector General Nicholas Schuler said he was “incredulous” that there would be “this perk, for one neighborhood school, as opposed to all other schools.” The average median family income in Mayer’s attendance area — nearly $178,000 a year — is the highest of any attendance area in CPS, an analysis by the IG’s office determined.)

SUBURBAN LIFE
— Wheaton continues to study flood-prone areas – ERIC SCHELKOPF (DIERSEN: By this article today, I first learned that Webster, McGrath & Ahlberg is working on a “Prairie Path Park Flood Prone Area Study” that is set for completion in July. The Prairie Path Park is in my precinct. I knew the woman and her husband who donated the park to the Wheaton Park District. Since 1984, I have urged Wheaton and the Wheaton Park District to do more to address the park’s flooding and other problems. In 2001, I followed the Wheaton Park District’s Adopt-A-Park procedures and adopted the park. My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes a) continue to stress that I sued Wheaton in 1986 for approving a woefully inadequate storm water drainage plan for its Cove Court subdivision and for letting the subdivision’s developer violate the Illinois Drainage Code, b) continue to call for everyone to continue to punish me for filing that lawsuit, and c) continue to oppose my suggestions to improve the park including my suggestions to improve storm water drainage in the park.)
http://www.mysuburbanlife.com/2018/05/23/wheaton-continues-to-study-flood-prone-areas/acu9u6u/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: “We have around 113 properties that are located in the floodplain,” Dzugan said. “When that study is completed, it will provide us with what they call elevation certificates for each of those structures, which will eventually allow us to apply for federal or state grant monies to assist in any type of mitigation effort.” Both projects are budgeted in the city’s 2018 storm sewer fund. Webster, McGrath & Ahlberg currently is working on the Jefferson Avenue, Madison Avenue and Prairie Path Park Flood Prone Area Study, set for completion in July.)

Ever since I helped lead the “Stop The Stoplight” campaign at Harrison and President in Wheaton in 1982, they have used their religious, government, political, and/or financial clout to harm/destroy me and to harm/destroy any individual, any organization, any company, and any government that might come to my defense. (FROM THE ARTICLE: “The message is very clear. Speak out against the Speaker and people loyal to him will come after you.” Those words, spoken Tuesday by Democratic state Rep. Kelly Cassidy, sadly sum up Michael Madigan’s despot-like reign over Illinois politics for more than three decades. Madigan, of course, is the “Speaker” in Cassidy’s comment. He has been Illinois’ House speaker for all but two years since 1983. He’s also been the chairman of the state Democratic Party since 1998, a position Democrats re-elected him to just last month despite a #MeToo harassment scandal swirling within his political organization. As the longest-serving legislative leader in American history and the longest-serving head of a major political party in Illinois history, Madigan wields more power than any other elected state official in the country and more than any single individual should be allowed to have. He controls the party’s campaign war chest, so he decides which Democratic candidates to fund in primary elections. He controls the rules for moving legislation through his chamber, so he decides which bills get to be voted on and which do not. He controls the legislative redistricting process, so he manipulates general elections. And because of all that, he controls the members of his Democratic caucus. Cross him, and you probably should start looking for something else to do.)

https://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/nurse-sued-hospital-retaliation-awarded-28-million-55399009
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A jury has ruled that a Boston hospital retaliated against a Haitian-American nurse who stood up for a black colleague and has awarded her $28 million. Gessy Toussaint’s attorney described Wednesday’s verdict against Brigham and Women’s Hospital as “monumental.” The Boston Globe reports that Toussaint also had accused the hospital of racial discrimination, but the jury didn’t find proof of that claim. Toussaint says the retaliation started after she defended another Haitian-American nurse, Nirva Berthold, who also is suing the hospital. Berthold says she was denied a promotion because she’s black. That claim is still pending. The hospital says it plans to appeal the retaliation ruling but is pleased with the decision on Toussaint’s discrimination claim.)

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— The charges made in Winchester v. Illinois Republican Party (IRP) are extremely serious. Constructively, Winchester has charged the IRP with voter fraud. What does the IRP, that is, Bruce Rauner, want Illinois Republican Precinct Committeemen/Captains to know about Winchester v. IRP? From what I see, the answer is absolutely nothing. Needless-to-say, the less informed that Illinois Republican Precinct Committeemen/Captains are, the less creditable that they are. By its failure/refusal to communicate, the IRP motivates me to fill the communication void with GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails. – Dave Diersen

MADISON RECORD
— State central committeeman Winchester sues state GOP; case removed to federal court
https://madisonrecord.com/stories/511424774-state-central-committeeman-winchester-sues-state-gop-case-removed-to-federal-court
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Bob Winchester, central committeeman of the Illinois Republican Party since 1992, claims in U.S. district court that the party rigged an election against him. His lawyer, Stephen Boulton of Chicago, alleges that the party improperly favored State Sen. Chapin Rose of Champaign for committeeman in an election on April 18. According to Boulton’s complaint, irregularities occurred at county conventions across the 15th Congressional district. He wrote that irregularities changed the vote “from the true result, a majority in favor of Winchester, to a false result, an alleged majority in favor of Rose.” In an interview on May 21, Boulton said that he had “a number” of affidavits from Madison County which demonstrate that Bob Winchester won the election. Last month, the Record reported that precinct committee men and women in Madison County chose Winchester over Rose by a margin of approximately 60 to 40 percent, and then as a sign of unity voted by acclamation to place 100 percent of the county’s vote in favor of Winchester. Winchester filed the suit in Hardin County, against state central committee members and State Board of Elections members who certified Rose’s election. The party removed the action to federal court on May 18. Boulton’s complaint described a county convention where, “only Rose was presented as a candidate for whom votes could be cast.” “Rose alone was nominated, and by the chairman of the convention,” the complaint states. He wrote that the chairman reported a unanimous vote for Rose to party staff. Boulton said it happened in Fayette County, where Randy Pollard serves as county GOP chairman. “It was over in 45 seconds,” Boulton said. “No understood what happened.” In the complaint, he wrote that several county chairmen reported incorrect results to staff, favoring Rose and that county chairmen and staff acted as agents of the state party. He wrote that the party, through staff, participated in the election by recruiting candidates and directing candidates to withdraw. He wrote that staff opposed Winchester due to “a strong likelihood of losing their positions if the present chairman is not re-elected.” The central committee re-elected its chairman, Tim Schneider, on May 19. Boulton said the committee seated Rose over an objection. “We expected that,” he said. “If Winchester was sitting there rather than Rose, the outcome might have been different.” The court clerk assigned the action to District Judge Staci Yandle.)

PRAIRIE STATE WIRE
— Sen. Rose ‘railroaded’ over incumbent by GOP in State Central Committeeman race, affidavit says – Karen Kidd
https://prairiestatewire.com/stories/511425048-sen-rose-railroaded-over-incumbent-by-gop-in-state-central-committeeman-race-affidavit-says
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A Fayette County Precinct committeeman said he was “confused” by a “nomination process” in April that somehow led to a win for state Sen. Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet) over Robert Winchester, the longtime incumbent in the race for Republican State Central Committeeman in the 15th Congressional District, according to an affidavit obtained by Prairie State Wire. “After this sequence of rapid nomination and voice vote on closing nominations, which in my best estimate took much less than a minute, I turned to a colleague and asked, ‘What just happened?’,” Fayette County Precinct Committeeman Glen Mills said in the affidavit filed with the Illinois Board of Elections. Mills, a Brownstown resident, said in his affidavit that he “later learned” Randy Pollard, Rauner’s downstate director who acted as chair during the convention when the election took place, “reported the vote for Fayette County as unanimous in favor of Chapin Rose.” Mills claims in his affidavit that draft minutes from the convention back up his own memories about how Rose came to win the seat on the Republican State Central Committee that had been held by Winchester since 1992. “The only word I can use to describe the election proceeding on a subjective level is that the election of Mr. Rose was intentionally ‘railroaded’ through the convention at high speed while this precinct committeeman (Mills) was confused by the process,” Mills said in his affidavit. “I do not believe I was given a fair chance to vote for Mr. Winchester in the election for State Central Committeeman for the 15th District conducted on April 18, 2018, or even the opportunity to vote ‘present’ or otherwise not have my precinct’s weighted vote be counted for Mr. Rose.” In April, sources informed Prairie State Wire that Winchester had retained counsel to launch a challenge to voting procedures in his Republican State Central Committee re-election bid. Rose, an assistant Republican caucus leader, has represented the 51st district since 2013, having previously been a member of the state House for about a decade. The Illinois state Senate’s 51st District encompasses all of Dewitt, Piatt, Moultrie, Douglas and Shelby counties and parts of McLean, Champaign, Vermilion, Edgar and Macon counties. Sources told Prairie State Wire in April that the state GOP had run Rose against the incumbent Winchester to punish Winchester for backing Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) in her strong but unsuccessful March primary bid against Gov. Bruce Rauner. Earlier this month, Winchester’s attorney, Steve Boulton of Peraica & Associates in Chicago, said in a letter to state GOP General Counsel John Fogarty that the race results had been determined by a “group of unelected and merely appointed staff members” with “personal and financial interests” in the re-election of current state GOP Chairman Tim Schneider. “The procedure may have well have been employed before, but it is not properly authorized and stands in contravention of the plain language of the Election Code,” Boulton wrote in his letter. “Repetition of an unlawful practice does not make it legal. If such were true bank robbery would be legal today.” In his complaint filed in federal court, Winchester alleged the Illinois Republican party rigged the April 18 election against him. In an interview published this week in the Madison-St. Clair Record, Boulton claimed to have “a number” of affidavits that prove Winchester actually won the election. A source told the Prairie State Wire that Winchester was not even mentioned as an option by Pollard and that he’d called for a voice vote during the April 18 election. “Pollard asked for a voice vote by acclamation for Chapin (Rose) and just moved on,” a source said. “He didn’t even mention Winchester was a candidate, much less the incumbent.” Mills, in his affidavit, described what happened as slightly different from what the source described. Pollard, “very politically powerful in Fayette County,” supported Rose before the convention, “which was confirmed when Mr. Pollard had papers distributed to the Convention supporting Mr. Chapin (Rose), including to me, an action which I considered improper,” Mills said in his affidavit. “At the commencement of the election Mr. Pollard announced that there were two candidates for State Central Committeeman, Chapin Rose and Robert Winchester,” the affidavit said. “After announcing the candidates, Mr. Pollard immediately called for ‘nominations’ which caused me great confusion since he had just announced the two candidates. I did not know what the nominations were for, or what purpose they served, given that the candidates had just been announced.” Pollard then nominated Rose, who “received an immediate second,” the affidavit said. “I remained confused by this procedure, since the candidates were already announced by Mr. Pollard and I was trying to grasp why a nomination process was being conducted at all. In very short order, a voice vote to close nominations occurred, and Mr. Pollard declared the election over. I do not recall any actual vote for Mr. Chapin (Rose) at all.” Mills said in his affidavit that he reviewed draft minutes from the convention, a copy of which was attached to his affidavit, and found they “comport with my recollection that no election vote was actually taken.” “Further, the minutes reflect that Mr. Pollard nominated Mr. Rose only after asking for nominations three times,” the affidavit said. “This comports with my recollection that the actual sequence of from [sic] nomination of Mr. Rose to closing of nominations was very quick.” Pollard, Mills and Rose did not immediately respond to Prairie State Wire requests for comment.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Drama continues in state GOP ranks – Rick Pearson
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-met-chicago-fop-protest-20180521-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Illinois Republican Party held its organizational meeting Saturday and re-elected Gov. Rauner’s handpicked chairman as part of a compromise with insurgent conservatives. But despite that attempt to show unity, the battle is continuing and may end up in a federal courtroom. Bob Winchester, a former state representative from Rosiclare, had been the longest-serving member of the Republican State Central Committee, serving since 1992. Winchester is an opponent of Rauner and party Chairman Tim Schneider, and he was challenged for re-election by state Sen. Chapin Rose of Mahomet. The State Board of Elections certified Rose as the winner at a special May 10 meeting and said it didn’t have the authority to investigate what Winchester alleges were misdeeds that made Rose the victor to represent the 15th Congressional District GOP. Winchester’s attorney, Stephen Boulton, said he filed suit a week ago in Downstate Hardin County to try to stop Rose from being seated, but his office said the case was not electronically recorded as being filed until late last week, too late to prevent Rose from being seated. The lawsuit contends both the state GOP and the State Board of Elections violated Winchester’s federally constitutionally protected due process rights and that county vote totals were changed to a “false result” in favor of Rose. The Illinois GOP has filed notice to move the case to the U.S. District Court in Benton. “The Illinois Republican Party is confident that the State Central Committee elections were conducted in accordance with state law, our party bylaws, and in an open and transparent manner,” Illinois Republican Party Executive Director Andrew Collins said in a statement. “We are also confident that the results reported to the party by the county Republican central committees were accurate, that the State Board (of Elections) certification of those results was proper and that the results are now final,” Collins said.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Republican activists across the state of Illinois are concerned about the way the deal was made behind the proverbial closed doors. Many grassroots leaders have expressed concern about how this arrangement was made and the fact that the Illinois GOP SCC would choose to continue with Schneider at the helm. Moreover, we have been given zero details on how this new position of “co-chairman” would work. . .For those reasons among others, Illinois Family Action, like most conservatives across the state, continues to have no confidence in Schneider, or his sponsor, Governor Bruce Rauner. Last week IFA called for conservatives to attend the SCC meeting that takes place tomorrow. Today, it seems that since the deals have already been made, conservatives are encouraged to attend only if they want to see the spectacle. IFA also encourages grassroots conservatives to contact your state central committee member and let him or her know what think about Schneider’s failed leadership, just as you would any of your other elected officials.)
