CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Edward E. McNally, Trump’s top candidate for N.Y. prosecutor angered U.S. lawyers in Chicago in George Ryan case – Christian Berthelsen, Matt Robinson (DIERSEN: To this day, my RINO critics/opponents, their RINO operatives, and their RINO dupes a) blame me for all of George Ryan’s problems and b) hint/imply/argue/shout that were it not for me and my GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails, George Ryan would still be the Governor of Illinois.)

— College endowments hope for rebound after worst year since financial crisis – Becky Yerak
http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/ct-illinois-college-endowments-down-0430-biz-20170428-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Wheaton College this year plans to spend about $17.9 million of its endowment, a 4.6 percent spending rate, up from $17.2 million last year. Endowment spending covers 14 percent of the Christian liberal arts school’s annual budget and helps pay for scholarships, faculty positions — including research — as well as academic programs, facility maintenance and general operations. Financial aid and scholarships represent the biggest piece of Wheaton’s endowment spending, about 38 percent. That amount, $6.8 million, has been growing in both dollars and percentage of endowment spending. The latest round will provide scholarships for about 800 students out of a total student body of 2,650 students. But like Northwestern, Wheaton saw its endowment shrink last year, dropping 5.3 percent, to $388 million. Nevertheless, Wheaton still boosted its financial aid from all sources, including the endowment, by 3.7 percent in 2017 and plans to spend even more next year, investment manager Kenneth Larson said.)

— Powerful pols got in on illegal state hiring scheme – Jim Dey  (DIERSEN: In Diersen v. GAO, all of the following made it very clear that they favored patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation: the District Court Judge Amy J. St. Eve and the U.S. Attorney for GAO Patrick Fitzgerald, U.S. Senator Peter Fitzgerald who appointed the aforesaid, and the 7th Circuit Appellate Court Justices.)
http://www.news-gazette.com/opinion/columns/2017-04-30/jim-dey-powerful-pols-got-illegal-state-hiring-scheme.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Patronage hiring, like that on display in the IDOT episode, is illegal as a consequence of a 1990 U.S. Supreme Court decision in Rutan v. Republican Party of Illinois. As a consequence of that decision, the high court banned the practice with the exception of a handful of top policy positions in the upper reaches of the executive departments. Those appointed top management positions are called “Rutan-exempt” while lower-level jobs are labeled “Rutan-covered.” To get around the law, top Quinn officials created Rutan-exempt “staff assistant” positions who did “Rutan-covered” work and filled them with clouted job-seekers. Later, Quinn’s people would transfer the staff assistants into legitimate Rutan-covered positions after conducting phony jobs searches. In favoring those with clout, state officials squandered state dollars on unqualified individuals. IDOT also put others seeking state employment at an impossible disadvantage.)

— Can you actually become a millionaire on an average salary? – Christy Bieber
http://money.cnn.com/2017/04/28/pf/millionaire-average-salary/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Becoming a millionaire has long been part of the American dream, but saving $1 million is not just an idle fantasy for most Americans. Saving at least $1 million is a dream many feel must come true if they’re going to have a comfortable retirement. In fact, of the Americans who have attempted to figure out how much they must save for retirement, 37% believe they need at least $1 million, according to the Employee Benefit Research Institute. Saving enough for retirement is a significant source of stress, and it’s natural to worry about reaching a savings goal of $1 million. Banking this much money may seem impossible on an average person’s salary, but could it actually be realistic? Can the average person, without a big inheritance or a lucky lotto win, become a millionaire? Can you actually become a millionaire on an average salary? There are a lot of factors that determine whether you can save $1 million or not, including how much you can invest and how fast those investments grow. The biggest factor, however, is your age when you start saving.)

ABC7
— TRUMP: ‘I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE EASIER’ – CNN  (DIERSEN: If you are a Republican working for the federal government, it is not easy.  Democrats run the federal government.  Were it not for federal civil service protections, a) the Post Office would NOT have hired me in 1966 or let me work there for almost 3 years, b) IRS would NOT have hired me in 1971 or let me work there for almost 9 years, c) IRS would NOT have promoted me in 1972, 1973, or 1974, d) GAO would NOT have hired me in 1980 or let me work there for almost 18 years, and e) GAO would NOT have promoted me in 1986.  If you are a Republican who is involved in Republican politics to defend and advance the Republican Party platform like I am, it is not easy.  Far too many “Republican” activists, candidates, elected officials, party leaders, major donors, political consultants, etc. are really Democrat plants, Libertarian plants, Green plants, and RINOs who are hell-bent on destroying the Republican Party in Illinois, in DuPage County, in Milton Township, in Glen Ellyn, in Wheaton, in etc.  Most commonly, these anti-Republicans reject the party’s traditional family, right to life, immigration, illegal drugs, Second Amendment, and equal opportunity (no race or gender based preference giving) planks.  Most commonly, they promote LGBTQ activity, abortion, mass/illegal immigration, pot, booze, gambling, and other vices, weakening of the Second Amendment, and race and gender based preference giving.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Newly minted Cook County judge who refused traffic court duty quits bench – Steve Schmadeke  (DIERSEN: GAO audits IRS.  The Democrats who ran GAO’s Chicago office in 1980 did not want me to transfer from IRS to GAO. They thought that their forcing me to take an $18,847 (21%) pay cut to transfer from IRS to GAO would keep me at IRS, but they were wrong. They knew that I wanted to be assigned to audits of IRS so that I could use my knowledge of IRS that I had gained by working for IRS for almost 9 years, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $79,563-$90,173. So to get me to go back to IRS, they succeeded in keeping me off IRS audits until the end of 1985 when the GAO manager who had hired me finally succeeded in a) getting me assigned to audits of IRS and b) promoting me to GS-13, currently $94,610. But then, in 1987, the Democrats who ran GAO’s Chicago office succeeded in forcing him to retire. At the end of 1988,  they threw me off audits of IRS and during 1989, they did everything that they could to get rid of me.  Were it not for Henry Hyde’s intervention, they might very well have succeeded.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-judge-cooke-resigns-traffic-court-met-20170428-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A new Cook County judge who for months defied orders from his supervisors to work in traffic court has resigned, according to an Illinois Supreme Court spokesman.  Richard Cooke stepped down from his $194,000-a-year post two days after a committee of 17 Cook County presiding judges voted to refer his “non-compliance with reporting to a judicial assignment” to the state agency that investigates allegations of judicial misconduct. The resignation was “effective at the end of business on Tuesday,” Chris Bonjean, a state Supreme Court spokesman, wrote in an email to the Tribune on Friday. The committee acted about a week after the Tribune began asking questions about the judge. On the same day it referred Cooke, the body also assigned Judge Jessica O’Brien, a small-claims court judge who was recently indicted on federal mortgage fraud charges, to administrative duties. His resignation means the Judicial Inquiry Board no longer has any authority over Cooke, 50, who ran unopposed in a Northwest Side subcircuit after lending his campaign an unprecedented $660,000. If the inquiry board had filed charges, Cooke could have been sanctioned or even removed from the bench.)

Coleman  (DIERSEN: If you sought a government office or a political office, what decades-old things would your critics/opponents bring up?  My critics/opponents side with my Democrat superiors in the federal government. They would bring up a) that my Democrat GAO superiors forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, did not promote me beyond GS-13, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take an $18,847 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980; b) that my Democrat IRS superiors did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims; and c) that my Democrat Post Office superiors forced me resign in 1969 and disallowed my sick leave requests.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The reasons for such killings are often varied: cartel assassins annoyed at aggressive coverage, corrupt public officials targeting critics to silence them, random violence and even reporters crossing over into the criminal worlds they cover. But according to government data, public servants like mayors and police officers have threatened journalists more often than drug cartels, petty criminals or anyone else in recent years, imperiling investigations and raising questions about the government’s commitment to exposing the culprits. Cases include journalists tortured or killed at the behest of mayors, reporters beaten by armed men in their newsrooms on the order of local officials, and police officers threatening to kill journalists for covering the news. But of the more than 800 serious cases of harassment, assault or homicide committed against journalists in the past six years, the federal office created to prosecute crimes against the freedom of expression has convicted suspects in only two.)
— As College Deadlines Near, Families Wonder What They Can Pay – RON LIEBER  (DIERSEN: Did you expect your parents to pay for your bachelor’s degree?  I did not. Neither of my outstanding parents attended college. My father was the first of his ancestors to earn a high school diploma. My mother never attended high school; she was a housewife and homemaker.  My father fought type 1 diabetes from age 14, worked in the office of a chemical plant, almost always worked second jobs to pay the family’s bills, never earned more than $40,000 a year in today’s dollars, did not buy a new car until he was 45 and it was a bottom of the line 2-door Chevy, and died suddenly in 1969 when he was 47 and I was 21. I paid for my bachelor’s degree and for new cars with money that I earned washing dishes, cleaning golf shoes, chipping slag, pumping gasoline, delivering mail, working on an automobile assemble line, and working as a security guard.  My outstanding parents provided me with room and board during my first 2 years at UIC 1966-1968, weekends during my first semester at NIU in 1969, and the summer of 1969. I graduated from NIU in August of 1970.)

FOX NEWS ILLINOIS
— Abortion Bill Passes in the Illinois House Tuesday – Em Nguyen
http://foxillinois.com/news/local/abortion-bill-passes-in-the-illinois-house-tuesday
(FROM THE ARTICLE: “Who are we as a culture when we can’t even recognize the humanity of an unborn child?” and “How we can say we care about the most vulnerable among us when we have limited funds anyway?” Republican State Representative Terri Bryant said the policy is “ridiculous”. “It expands abortion in the state of Illinois.” Bryant said. “And shouldn’t be a part of providing free abortions to whoever wants them at any stage of a pregnancy for any reason.” The bill ensures public money to pay for women’s health services, including abortion, something Springfield’s “Right to Life” is against. “We are saddened,” President of the organization, Tim Moore, said. “By the passage of abortion legislation that redefines when human life begins and seeks additional means of killing that life. The same group of politicians want taxpayers to fund these abhorrent practices.” Just last week, Governor Bruce Rauner pledged to veto the bill because of the public money involved. But after working on the bill for three years, Representative Feigenholtz said she will keep pushing for it anyway. “I’m hoping that once it gets to his desk,” she said. “That 250,000 women will knock on his door, and say, sign the bill, and he would change his mind,” Illinois Republican Party National Committeewoman Demetra Demonte responded: “Instead of working to solve our state’s catastrophic challenges, Madigan Democrats just passed a radical bill for taxpayer funded abortions, at a cost of $60 million, while we don’t have a budget. Springfield yet again shows it’s tone-deaf to the concerns of Illinoisans.” Before landing on the Governor’s desk, the bill will still have to pass in the Senate.)

Then, Oldsmobile withdrew its job offer saying that it had just agreed to stop hiring Whites to settle an EEOC complaint. Then, unemployed that I was and needing a job to help support my mother and brother because my father had died, I accepted an offer from IRS to be a GS-7 (currently, $44,853/year) Revenue Officer. I just barely made it into the upper 20% of my high school class.  My ACT was only 24. Neither of my parents had attended college.  My father had fought type 1 diabetes from age 14 and made only about $40,000/year in today’s dollars.  My mother never attended high school and was a housewife/homemaker.  My vision was never correctable to 20/20 and I have always had partial red/green color blindness.  I had demonstrated no leadership potential in high school; I washed dishes for the minimum wage in the basement of the S.S. Kresges in Chicago Heights during my junior and senior years and the summer in between. Upon graduation from high school, I cleaned golf shoes, chipped slag, pumped gasoline, and delivered mail.)

USA TODAY
— The future of jobs: More men doing ‘women’s work’ – Jon Swartz  (DIERSEN: What jobs have you held?  Because all the jobs that I held 1964-1997 were bad ‘men’s work’ jobs, with the exception of the first job that I held, my superiors always had an extremely hard time getting women to take those jobs.  My first job, a ‘women’s work’ and a ‘minorities work’ job washing dishes for the minimum wage in the basement of the S.S. Kresges in Chicago Heights 1964-1966 was so bad that women and minorities would not take/keep the job.  My understanding is that I was the first and only White male to hold that job and that I held it longer (18 months) than anyone else. The bad ‘men’s work’ jobs that held after were cleaning golf shoes, chipping slag, pumping gasoline, delivering mail, working on an automobile assembly line, working as a security guard, selling tires, automotive services, and major appliances, collecting delinquent taxes, and auditing federal agencies.)

WALL STREET JOURNAL
— Older Workers Challenge Firms’ Aggressive Pursuit of the Young  In one class action against PricewaterhouseCoopers, two men say they were rejected because they lacked the youthful profile possessed by many PwC recruits – Jacob Gershman  (DIERSEN: How old are you? Democrats use Affirmative Action, Diversity, and Inclusion to get rid of their employees who are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran. Non-veteran White males who are seeking a job with the federal government should be advised that with only rare exceptions, a) your career will be wasted and you will be gotten rid of if you do not make GS-13 ($94,610) by age 25, GS-14 ($111,801) by age 30, GS-15 ($131,508) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service ($161,900) by age 40 and b) you will be expected to help your superiors and supervisors get rid of their employees who are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran. When I transferred from IRS to GAO in 1980 when I was 31 years old, my Democrat superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates shouted that I could never have a successful GAO career, that is, that GAO could and should waste my career and get rid of me.  They stressed a) that I was a Republican, b) that I was 31 years old, c) that I was White, d) that I was a male, e) that I was not a veteran, and f) that GAO forced me to take an $18,847 pay cut in today’s dollars, that is, a downgrade from GS-12 Step 5, currently $90,173, to GS-9, Step 10, currently $71,326, to transfer from IRS to GAO.)

April 15 Evening Edition

NBC5
— VERY SAD: Protesters Gather in Chicago, Calling on Trump to Release Tax Returns  (DIERSEN: In 1977, in connection with Money Magazine doing a “One Person’s Finances” article on me, I gave Money Magazine copies of my 1972-1976 federal income tax returns. When Money Magazine published its 4-page article on me in its February, 1978 issue, it because clear that the Democrats at Money Magazine selected me for the article because they wanted to and because they did a) foist negative government employee stereotypes on me and b) paint my education deductions as being improper.  They described my job duties as an IRS Revenue Officer and the graduate business courses at Loyola and the graduate accounting courses at DePaul that I had deducted purposely to make it look like the courses did not relate to my job duties and they did not help me carry out my job duties. They implied that the courses qualified me for “a new trade or business” and that I took the courses to get a job in the private sector.  The Democrats at IRS disallowed all the courses notwithstanding the fact that IRS encourages its Revenue Offices to take graduate business and accounting courses and my Loyola and DePaul graduate school applications clearly showed that I wanted to take the courses to help me carry out my job duties at IRS.  I took IRS to Tax Court pro se and won a split decision.  The Democrats at Money Magazine and the Democrats at IRS would not have done the aforesaid to me if I had been a Democrat, a minority, a female, and/or a veteran.)

— Naperville taxpayers deserve an explanation for nature center flooding – Editorial  (DIERSEN: What factors increase the likelihood of your basement flooding? Factors for 915 Cove Court in Wheaton include the subdivision being built in a watershed area and a former septic field, the tremendous amount of surface and subsurface storm water that flows onto the lot during and after heavy rains, the inadequate number of storm sewer inlets in the subdivision, the disruption, obstruction, and improper connection of 6″ and 4″ subterranean drainage lines when the home was built, the pouring the foundation walls on cracked footings, the improper installation and intentional blockage of exterior foundation footing tiles, the installation of only one sump pump when there should have been two or even three or even four, the many long and wide cracks in the basement floor, and the fact that all the storm water that gets into the storm sewer system on the lot is limited to the capacity of just one 4″ pipe.  What factors decrease the likelihood of your basement flooding?  For 915 Cove Court, they include the installation of steel reinforcement rods in foundation walls, the installation of interior footing tiles, my paying $900 when the home was built in 1984 to have all nine of the home’s downspouts directly connected to Wheaton’s storm sewer system, my installing a backup sump pump, my unobstructed and properly connecting the aforesaid subterranean drainage lines to Wheaton’s storm sewer system, my paying for unobstruction (the removal of stones) from some of the exterior footing tiles, my adding hundreds of feet of French drains and many storm sewer inlets on the lot and connecting them directly to Wheaton’s storm sewer system, my properly sealing the many long and wide cracks in the basement floor, my paying for conversion to an overhead sewer system before the basement was finished in 2005, and my paying for a 20-W whole house natural gas backup electric generator for the home.  Since 1984, because of Wheaton’s failure/refusal to assure that building codes were enforced when the subdivision was constructed and 915 Cove Court was built, I have been forced to spend many thousands of dollars and many hundreds of hours of my labor to stop basement flooding.)

They hint/imply/argue/shout that because we gave up trying to have children, because we did not adopt, and because we did not become foster parents, we are nasty selfish filthy rich DINKs (dual income, no kids) and even worse things, and therefore, we can and we should pay more real estate taxes.)
http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20170414/news/170419281/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A property tax mix-up involving new Arlington Heights Elementary District 25 board member Anisha Patel’s home resulted in her family saving more than $12,000 by paying taxes to the wrong school district since at least 2008. A Daily Herald analysis of property tax records shows the Patel family paid about $44,000 in taxes to Elk Grove Township Elementary District 59 since 2008 but should have paid closer to $56,000 during that time to District 25. Researchers at Cook County Clerk David Orr’s office discovered Patel’s home was wrongly listed within District 59’s taxing boundaries even though Patel sends her children to schools in District 25. The mistake came to light after Patel won election to the District 25 board April 4. Patel and owners of two neighboring homes — and ultimately their property tax bills — are affected by the revelation.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: There’s a big string attached to New York’s free middle-class college tuition initiative: Students must stay in the state after graduation or else pay back the benefit. Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Monday that the requirement was added to protect the state’s investment in a student’s education by ensuring they don’t take advantage of free tuition and then leave New York. The tuition initiative, which Cuomo said is a national model, covers state college or university tuition for in-state students from families earning $125,000 or less. Students must remain in New York for as many years as they received the benefit. They must repay the money as a loan if they take a job in another state.)

https://capitolfax.com/2017/04/10/pawar-compares-rauner-to-british-colonialists/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: My father was born in India under British rule. The British were few, but they were wealthy. The Indians were many but they were kept poor. They were pit against one another based on what religion they practiced, where they lived, and what language they spoke. The British kept Indians jobless, uneducated, and without medical services. This was the world my dad grew up in, and it’s the world being created by the broken policies of Donald Trump and Bruce Rauner. It’s been 21 months and counting without a budget because Rauner wants there to be no budget. In his race to destroy the social safety net, he wants the chaos that comes from slashing school funding, closing health clinics, and encouraging companies to leave the state. I am running for governor because I’m tired of Bruce Rauner and his billionaire friends being the happiest they’ve ever been as millions of families suffer from lack of jobs, health care, and educational opportunities. I am running because I want to ensure my daughter doesn’t grow up in the kind of world that oppressed my dad.)
