(FROM THE ARTICLE: CAGE MATCH: Illinois Republican Party officials are meeting today to address concerns about Mark Shaw, vice chair of the Illinois GOP and a state central committeeman. He’s been accused of improperly voting as a delegate during last month’s state GOP convention and also challenging someone to a fight. The back-and-forth: Lake County Republican Party Chair Keith Brin called on Shaw to resign, and Cook County Commissioner Sean Morrison sent a letter urging them to address the concerns. Shaw has pushed back with a letter defending himself, saying, “Brin’s and Morrison’s demands are based on half-truths and outright lies.” Read it here ( https://www.politico.com/f/?id=00000190-1e27-de3a-adb6-ff67e1760000 ). “I feel like my bosses are fighting and I’m in the middle of it,” Illinois GOP Chair Don Tracy told Playbook. Shaw didn’t return our request for comment on the brouhaha. “We need to lower the room temperature,” Tracy said, adding the goal is “to defeat the Democratic operatives who are ruining this state and to save our passions and our energies to win some elections. ”What led to today’s meeting of the GOP State Central Committee: There’s a question about whether Shaw wrongly signed up as a delegate for the convention. And there’s tension from the vote for RNC committeeman. Shaw wanted the position and won the first three rounds of voting among the state central committee members but lost in the floor vote. Dean White, ultimately won by acclamation. At some point during that drama, Shaw lashed out at Republican State Central Committeeman Aaron Del Mar, who was helping White maneuver the process. Shaw told Del Mar, “I’m going to kick your ass.” In his memo, Shaw acknowledged it was “obviously, a poor choice of words” given Del Mar is “a former mixed-martial-arts athlete.” Del Mar’s response: “I understand emotions were high, but you don’t get to be vice chair [of the party] and say stuff like that,” he told Playbook. Much of the tension is a result of relationships gone sour over past elections. Some Republicans blame Shaw for Lake County turning blue, while he was county chair. And even though Shaw is a Donald Trump delegate and a “senior adviser” to the GOP presidential candidate, some Republicans in the base still view him as being too establishment. “It’s frustrating to have an intra-family fight,” Tracy said. “But I’m a firm believer that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. So, I’m hoping we will come out of this stronger and battle-ready for the fall elections.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Vince Kolber, chairman of the Illinois Republican Party Finance Committee abruptly resigned on Tuesday in an angry letter to IL GOP chairman Don Tracy, just weeks after the influential conservative grassroots base of the Illinois Republican Party scored major victories during the GOP State Convention in Collinsville – and after two years of unflattering stories by this publication. Kolber, who is registered to vote in Illinois and Wisconsin, is still angry about losing his election at the state convention for national committeeman – after being eliminated in the first round to Mark Shaw, who faked a delegate badge and threatened to beat up a fellow state central committee member. During the first day of the convention, the Republican National Committeeman Nominating Committee voted 14-3 to keep Kolber on the ballot despite failing to meet the candidacy requirements as outlined by the IL GOP’s own bylaws. As part of the nomination process, candidates are required to submit before the convention their certified voting record to show that they voted in the last three Illinois Republican primaries. But Kolber, who is registered to vote as a full time resident in both Illinois and Wisconsin – only submitted information for two Illinois primaries – 2022 and 2024. The omission of where he voted in 2020 would have automatically disqualified him from running for national committeeman per the bylaws, but an exception was made and Kolber remained on the ballot – proving that if you are a favored candidate of the party establishment – rules can be broken. In his resignation letter, Kolber blamed the rise of the grassroots for his downfall – or as he also stated, the “newly engaged,” writing, “Right now, our Illinois party is excessively focused on the newly engaged raising high, the banner of the “grassroots.” Kolber also blamed the grassroots – or the “newly engaged” for creating “resistance” with donors, telling Tracy, “We have both experienced wide resistance from those donors in supporting a party organization needlessly divided on the relative importance of the newly engaged.” . . . Kolber also blamed the grassroots for the election of Dean White as national committeeman – a position that he sought, writing, “the Illinois party chose someone who has never given or raised to either the Illinois Party or the National Party. And in my case, they turned down someone who has given and raised substantial funds for both the State and National Republican parties.” The Illinois and Wisconsin resident has always placed an emphasis on money over people – and as a result, the Illinois Republican Party – and partly under his leadership, has slipped further into irrelevance as the Democrats continue to expand their super majority control in both the Illinois House and Senate – and control every statewide office – leaving Republicans voiceless on local and state matters. In July 2023, Kolber was listed on the host committee for a Ron DeSantis for President event in Wisconsin, where he claims to live full-time, while at the same time, serving as an IL GOP senior official. In December of 2022, Kolber infamously offended a room full of grassroots, when he asked the crowd during a state central committee meeting, “I assume all of you have donated to the IL GOP?” And when the room yelled back, “No!” He replied, “No? Then what are you doing here?” The comment drew an immediate reaction from the crowd, still stunned that a GOP leader would say something so offensive to a room full of hardworking, grassroots patriots – many of whom had driven hours, just for their voices to be heard. And judging by the negative reaction from the crowd, Republican state central committee member and ally of Kolber – Jeanne Ives, jumped up from her seat, in defense of Kolber, screaming as if experiencing an out of body experience and yelling in a high pitched voice, “Vince is not your problem! This man gave me $750,000 when I ran against Gov. Bruce Rauner!” Proving yet again, that if you are a major donor – different rules apply. In his closing remarks, Kolber stated that he is resigning “from Chairing or further participating in the Finance Committee” – and leaving the state party altogether. I “wish all involved continuing success.”)

— I promote planks in the Republican Party platform that they reject including its personal responsibility, traditional marriage and family, right to life, immigration, illegal drugs, Second Amendment, and/or equal opportunity (no race or gender based preference giving) planks.
— I promote direct election of Illinois Republican Party State Central Committee members.
— They destroy those like me who they cannot manipulate or dominate, who refuse to glorify and praise them, who refuse to pander to them, who refuse to serve as one of their operatives or dupes, who refuse to cover up their wrong doing, and/or who refuse to give them money.
— I have demographics that they despise/hate including heterosexual, conservative, Republican, White, male, older, married, draft avoider, gun owner, Protestant, German American, those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time, former union member, former federal employees, and federal retiree.
— I have more money, work experience, education, professional certifications than they do and I have a professional license.
— They blame me for their problems, for your problems, for my problems, and/or for everyone’s problems.
— I have sued them or I have sued those who they work for.
— They hate Trump and I do not.

What is the next adverse action that you anticipate/expect that your critics/opponents will take against you? For me, I anticipate/expect that they will recruit a Republican voter in my precinct to run against me for Precinct Committeeman. They succeeded in doing that in 2000, but not since. Recently, one of their leaders rudely told me that she had thrown my precinct letter into her trash. This leader played a major role in a) ending my service as the Republican fundraiser for Wheaton Independence Day parades and fireworks in 2021, b) ending my bid to be selected to fill a Wheaton City Council West District vacancy in 2019, c) ending my chairmanship of TAPROOT Republicans in 2012, d) ending my membership on the Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee in 2011, e) ending my service as the Milton Township Republican Organization (MTRO) webmaster in 2010 and 2004, and f) ending my bid to serve as the MTRO Treasurer in 2004.

He wants to extend extension of Illinois’ cap on net operating losses, which would raise taxes on companies losing money, as Bryce Hill, Director of Fiscal and Economic Research with the Illinois Policy Institute, pointed out in a comprehensive piece about Pritzker’s 2025 budget. Pritzker would “effectively raise taxes by $186 million on retailers,” Hill noted, adding, “Retailers now retain 1.75% of the sales taxes for collecting and sending them to the government, so long as they properly file and pay their applicable sales taxes by their due dates. Under Pritzker’s proposal, the value of this tax credit would be capped at $1,000 per month.” Hill asserts that Pritzker’s 2025 budget proposal includes “a hidden $93 million income tax hike on individuals. He will get that money by shortchanging the inflation adjustment to the state’s standard income tax exemption. … the state’s current standard exemption for tax year 2024 is set a $2,775 per income taxpayer and dependent.
