(FROM THE ARTICLE: Wednesday night, Heidorn ran uncontested, as expected, for township supervisor to replace Hank Kruse, who chose not to run again. Current township trustees Ken McNatt and Barbara Murphy also were selected by committeemen to run for another term. However, two-term incumbent trustee John Garrow was edged out by challengers Jim Flickinger and Don Sender, both of Wheaton. Flickinger, a longtime precinct committeeman, has been a fixture at Wheaton-Warrenville District 200 board meetings and ran unsuccessfully for a school board seat in 1997. Sender, also a committeeman and a retired history teacher at Wheaton Central High School, recently resigned as a caseworker for Milton Township. He and Kruse have been instrumental in the cleanup in the last several years of two abandoned cemeteries in the township, St. Stephen’s Cemetery in Carol Stream and Pleasant Hill Cemetery in unincorporated Wheaton. (FROM THE ARTICLE: Hegseth’s military service ended as a major without having qualified for retirement. I, too, was an infantry officer. I rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve. I was awarded a single Bronze Star medal and two Commendation Medals for that service, along with a lot of other awards. I led a platoon, a company and commanded as a lieutenant colonel. My service included a peacekeeping tour and combat in Desert Storm, serving as a regular army soldier in an elite army division. My last staff position was as chief of plans of U.S. Army Japan. I spent three times as long serving in the regular Army and twice as long in the Reserve Forces – and qualified for retirement. I commanded ten times more soldiers than Hegseth did before I was even promoted to captain. For the critical position of secretary of defense, based on military experience, I easily beat Hegseth. That moves me to a commanding lead of 3-1 on the major resume items for SECDEF. All this comes with a caveat: I’m not remotely qualified to be defense secretary. I am, however, smart enough to recognize that.)

In 1992, because they had assigned me to audits of federal financial industry regulators and because it had become all too clear that they would never again assign me to audits of IRS, I started taking graduate evening courses in financial markets and trading at IIT and I earned a master’s degree in that in 1997. Also, I became a Certified Financial Services Auditor in 1996. But later in 1997, they forced to retire and flushed all that down their toilet.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Caregiver discrimination  House Bill 2161 adds family responsibilities to the list of categories protected from discrimination and retaliation in the workplace. The new law prevents employers from taking adverse action against employees because of their responsibilities as a caregiver for a family member, which could cause them to miss work. Bill sponsor Rep. Will Guzzardi, D-Chicago, told a House committee in April that pregnant women are a good example of who the bill is designed to help. He said pregnant women shouldn’t be passed up for a promotion or face other consequences at work in anticipation that they will be taking time off to care for their baby. Guzzardi stressed the bill does not protect employees who fail to meet job performance requirements.)
