(FROM THE ARTICLE: How did you prepare the big news of the week? There was much news. But let’s narrow it down to a few. The Jacobin leftist Zohran Mamdani’s political victory over the ashes of what had been the Democrat Party, propelled by the Angry White Women vote. The Angry White Women Leftists, often referred to as AWFLS, have appetite and a well developed sense of entitlement. Though they and their male partners are well educated in obscure subjects, they don’t have real financially marketable skills. They know DEI bureaucracy and DEI slogans, but they can’t fix a leaky toilet or repair an electric socket. They can’t earn an honest dollar so they reach for politics to take what they want. My friend the astute writer Michael Ledwith is also fascinated by these AWFLS, who provide anger, backbone and the necessary cruelty to what we are now experiencing as American Communism. They are what we call Karens. He sent me this passage from George Orwell’s “1984.” “It was always the women, and above all the young ones, who were the most bigoted adherents of the Party, the swallowers of slogans, the amateur spies and nosers-out of unorthodoxy.” It explains a lot, Ledwith said. And I think of AOC and her posse of AWFLS, searching for heretics, sharpening her knife, and I hope she doesn’t find them. Because they don’t have the money to live in New York at the standard they expect to live, they demand that Zohran give them “free stuff” and call it “affordability.” They feel betrayed by the establishment because they can no longer pay for what they desire. They want to live large as befits what they think is their station. And he’s promised to use other people’s money until that’s gone and the roof caves in, as it always does. And the other big news (to me, at least) are the revelations that Democrat Deep State prosecutorial zealot Jack Smith–the javert of the new left–had hoped to prosecute “the entire Republican political apparatus” for the crime of being conservative. How did we get here? As always the dried bones of political failure have lined this road over the decades: The failure of the political establishment is the foundation of the Mamdani rise. And what did the Democrat establishment offer in New York? A tired cynical Cuomo known for feeding grandmothers in nursing homes to the pandemic, and slapping fannies and otherwise sexually harassing young women. Democrats were as exhausted as he was. And they offered a charismatic figure in Mamdani, and if he orders them to the killing fields at some future date, he wasn’t a tired Democrat hack like Cuomo. The leftist Democrats who bowed to the radical communists like Mandami enjoy talking of diversity up until the moment they hang you for speaking your mind. I’m conservative. I really don’t think a trip to prison would change my mind about the leftists who have destroyed my hometown of Chicago and have now ruined New York. You might have watched panel discussion shows—those panels of experts and witty pundits with perfect teeth–selected to reflect your politics like so many of those bobble head dogs that people place in their cars. It is amusing to watch them cast about for consensus if one hasn’t yet been formed. But bobble heads—even pretty ones—don’t quite get you there. So how did I prepare for Mamdani, especially as Democrats worried about the angry left and the political guillotine of the leftists express no desire to end their shut-down of the federal government? Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) said that Democrat fear of their own won’t allow them to reopen the government. “Because they’re afraid of facing the guillotine of the radical left. And who are the radical left? They are the people who would prefer to use taxpayer dollars to pay for health care for illegal immigrants than to pay for the men and women who keep us safe.” Guillotine, fear of the unleashed mob? I looked for my old copy of Edmund Burke’s “Reflections on the Revolution in France” It’s old. It’s affordable in paperback. It was written by a conservative. And I like it. But it has one serious drawback: It is a book. A book on paper, and this, by definition, takes effort to digest. It is not like sitting with the bobbleheads. But it does involve the Reign of Terror propelled by the Jacobin revolutionary Maximilien Robespierre. France spilled its own blood from September 1793 and into July 1794. In the Reign of Terror, some 17,000 French citizens were executed at the guillotine. Another 10,000 died in prison without trial. Among them were thousands of executed priests caught up in the Jacobin De-Christianization of France, as churches were shuttered and winemakers, shopkeepers, supporters of the king and queen were executed. Everyone and anyone could be suspected, and sent to the guillotine to the jeers of the filthy mob. It wasn’t Portland or Chicago, it was Paris. Family members accused each other as not being supportive enough of the revolution, terrified they would themselves be accused. And they were killed. And the guillotine kept falling again and again and again. For those who are afraid of reading, I leave this short video, narrated by a man with an English accent. Why? There’s nothing like an English accent to perpetuate a sense of historical authority. Fittingly, it even claimed Robespierre. Who reminds us of Robespierre today? I think of the Jacobin Democrats Adam Schiff, John Brennan of the CIA, or perhaps the imperious James Comey who destroyed the credibility of the FBI. You can see how frightened they are. Brennan is snarling the way a frightened dog snarls at the approach of a predator. At any event, the executions in France continued until finally, Napoleon became dictator of all of France and personally controlled the media and told the newspapers what to print. Now it’s New York Mayor Elect Zorhan Mamdani’s turn to play the Jacobin with his billionaire friends. His voters don’t read history. They have “feelings.” They are sentimental, emotional and thus easily manipulated, demanding “free stuff” and this leads to disaster. Soros has his meat puppet. He doesn’t need the clumsy barbarian in Chicago, Mayor Brandon Johnson. He’s already got Chicago, and much of the media. It’s not only Chicago and New York. The left is ascendant, full of confidence and oh so violent. The Democrat embrace of the assassination culture continued after the assassination of Christian activist Charlie Kirk. They marched in lock step in support of their candidate in Virginia who fantasized about murdering his opponents and killing the opponent’s children. It was Virginia Democrats who revenged themselves on Republican delegate Carrie Coyner, the Virginia Republican who revealed violent texts sent to her by Jay Jones. He expresses fantasies of murdering children and now is the chief law enforcement officer of the commonwealth that produced George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. Senior Virginia Democrats like Sen. Tim Kaine supported and embraced Jay Jones. The media, which has for decades protected leftist outrage, did its job. So how did we get here? As always, the establishment failed, and legitimate concerns about cost of living were ignored. And the Bolsheviks offered a charismatic leader with plenty of charm. And now they bathe in their feelings, and think about the great future ahead of them, as they reach for power over the rest of us. And you’re surprised that I would compare today’s American Democrats to the murderous Jacobins of 18th Century France? I don’t take guillotines to protests in American cities, but they do. In Chicago, New York, Portland, Los Angeles, every place where the Democrats feel strong. The rest of us? We pray for their reign of terror to end.)

Yet, the Trump-Vance administration is now directing the inclusion of an open-ended essay question that asks potential civil servants about their political agreement with the Trump-Vance administration’s political agenda,” said the AFGE union, one of the sponsors of the suit. “Plaintiffs allege that OPM has violated the First Amendment rights of applicants by conditioning employment on particular political viewpoints, compelling applicants to praise President Trump’s orders and policies, chilling the protected speech of other applicants who fear retaliation, and enabling and facilitating viewpoint discrimination,” it said. I fret that businesses which no longer need to be here to remain competitive will leave and take loads of tax dollars — and jobs — with them. I also pray that Albany will spoil Mamdani’s plans for grabbing other people’s money. If all the sensible people flee, we are just handing over the keys to Mamdani — the pretty face of an ugly movement. (FROM THE ARTICLE: When Mike Lindell, the chief executive of MyPillow and the founder of the upstart digital news site LindellTV, recently heard about the chance to secure a Pentagon press credential, he immediately applied for four. The outlet, which strongly supports the Trump administration and is known for promoting election conspiracy theories, already had accredited journalists stationed at the White House and in Congress. The Pentagon would be a perfect capstone, he thought. “We’re going to make them proud,” he said about the administration in an interview. It has been nearly three weeks since dozens of legacy outlets — including The New York Times, The Washington Post and the three major broadcast news networks — Fox News and Newsmax surrendered press passes that gave their journalists access to the Pentagon. They did so after declining to sign on to new rules that, according to many media lawyers, curbed their First Amendment rights to report on the military. Many of those outlets have continued aggressive coverage of the military from outside the Pentagon since then. In their place, a fresh crop of news media has stepped forward to occupy the Pentagon’s tightly circumscribed press areas, ones with a strikingly different philosophy when it comes to traditional journalistic notions about the fourth estate and holding truth to power. The Pentagon said it would not release a list of the outlets in the changing press corps, but The Times was able to identify a dozen of them. They range from widely popular right-wing podcasts to niche publications largely focused on issues like abortion, but are similar in their unwavering support for the Trump administration and the firm belief that ruffling government feathers is decidedly not part of the job description. “We’re there for the big-ticket narrative stuff,” Raheem Kassam, editor in chief of the National Pulse, a part of the new Pentagon press detachment, wrote in a text message. He called his publication “basically an industry mag/site for MAGA world.” Initially, the National Pulse’s eyes and ears in the Pentagon will be Will Upton, who worked in the Treasury Department during the first Trump administration and has been a frequent and vocal critic of traditional journalists, whom he has characterized as partisan actors. Laura Loomer, the influential pro-Trump activist, said in a post on X late on Monday that she would be joining the Pentagon press corps, writing that she looks forward to “breaking more stories that impact our country and our national security.” News of her accreditation was reported earlier by The Washington Post. Other new arrivals include LifeSite News, a Catholic advocacy publication, whose Pentagon reporter is a former aide to Representative Paul Gosar, an Arizona Republican, and has been accused of making antisemitic and misogynistic remarks; RedState, owned by the Christian radio giant Salem Media, whose reporter was the communications director for James O’Keefe, the right-wing hidden camera journalist who founded Project Veritas; and Gateway Pundit, a site that often has spread conspiracy theories, which will have two military correspondents, including one who is perhaps best known for her work pushing for pardons for participants in the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021. David Schulz, director of Yale Law School’s Media Freedom and Information Access Clinic, who serves as legal counsel for the Pentagon Press Association, said that the new rules amounted to an effort to limit what journalists could report and that the new outlets had pro-Trump leanings in common. “These new regulations are really not about national security,” Mr. Schulz said. “They’re about controlling viewpoint and content.” In a statement, Sean Parnell, the chief Defense Department spokesman, said the traditional news outlets had misrepresented the policy. “The so-called ‘journalists’ staged a self-deportation and filmed their theatrics,” he said. “We are proud to see the new wave of highly motivated journalists, who value truth, occupy the Correspondents Corridor.” Mr. Parnell had previously said in a social media post that the newcomers amounted to more than 60 journalists, roughly equivalent to the number of traditional reporters who handed in their badges on Oct. 15. A handful of outlets that had been in the Pentagon press corps previously, including The Epoch Times and One America News Network, agreed to sign the policy and have remained there. Mr. Parnell’s post prompted announcements from outlets that said they would be getting credentials, among them Human Events and the Post Millennial, sister sites that share a single owner and frequent contributions from Jack Posobiec, the well-known podcaster and Navy veteran who has a close relationship with numerous Trump administration officials, including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. “We repealed and replaced the press pool,” Mr. Posobiec said in a recent interview on Real America’s Voice, which itself said on X that it would be getting a Pentagon credential. Libby Emmons, editor in chief of Human Events and the Post Millennial, said she had requested four passes for her staff and signed the new Pentagon press policy. “There should be a place for reporting on what they are doing without always trying to expose the dark underbelly,” Ms. Emmons said. “And that’s part of why I said sure, I’ll sign your thing and come check it out.” Major Washington outposts — Congress, the White House, the State Department and the Pentagon — have long had their own press corps: packs of print reporters, television correspondents and their camera crews, who hover in the hallways and tag along with officials as they travel. President Trump and his appointees have often criticized the journalists who follow them on a daily basis, but until now, the administration has never gone so far as to effectively remake an entire press corps. “I’ve never seen anything like that, and it doesn’t seem to resemble anything from a team that respects an actual independent press corps,” said Eric Schultz, who served as a press aide under President Barack Obama. Ms. Emmons said she had received an unsolicited invitation to apply for credentials after the legacy journalists refused to sign the new rules. “We value what the press does every single day, but unfortunately we have seen a lot of the mainstream media continue to lie,” Kingsley Wilson, Defense Department spokeswoman, said in an interview that same day with Frontlines, a media arm of Turning Point USA. That outlet subsequently announced that it, too, would be joining the new Pentagon media crew. Several of those joining the new press corps live nowhere near the nation’s capital, even though the department’s published policies say credentialed correspondents should be at the Pentagon, just outside Washington, “at least three times a month.” Tim Pool, the beanie-wearing right-wing podcaster, said on X that he did “not intend to maintain a significant presence in the Pentagon” after disclosing that his outlet, Timcast Media, was also getting a credential. Last year, a federal investigation revealed that Mr. Pool was paid to produce videos for a company that was secretly funded by the Russian government. Mr. Pool, who was not charged, has claimed he was unaware of where the payments, which amounted to $100,000 per video, came from. Under the new policy, journalists could get in trouble — and even lose access permanently — for soliciting government employees to “violate the law by providing confidential government information.” Securing confidential information is the bread and butter of accountability reporting and has produced some of the most important journalism of the past century. There are few signs, however, that the reconstituted Pentagon press corps has aspirations to test the limits of those rules. Mr. Pool, on his podcast, said, “We are not an investigative news organization.” He added: “We do not have journalists meeting with sources in parking garages while they kick over a manila folder with secret documents. We don’t do any of that.” Mr. Lindell, for his part, said he would “follow the rules to the T,” echoing the contention by Pentagon officials that leaks — even of nonclassified information — are a threat to national security. “We would never do anything like the mainstream media does to jeopardize our country,” he added.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: In the early hours of Friday morning, Illinois Democrats pushed through one of the most extreme immigration bills in the country – a sweeping measure designed to block federal immigration enforcement and further cement Illinois’ status as a sanctuary state. The bill, House Bill 1312, passed after hours of emotional speeches according to Politico, from Democratic lawmakers, many of whom compared federal immigration agents to kidnappers and slave catchers. The legislation, which Gov. JB Pritzker is expected to sign, designates “safe zones” around schools, hospitals, and courthouses, and allows individuals to sue immigration officers for alleged violations of their “constitutional rights,” including false imprisonment or unlawful detention. “This bill is a statement on behalf of the legislature to say that what ICE is doing is unacceptable,” declared State Sen. Celina Villanueva (D-Chicago), one of the bill’s lead sponsors. Under the new law, federal immigration officers will face punitive damages if they conceal their identities, fail to wear body cameras, or use unmarked or out-of-state vehicles while conducting enforcement operations. It also prohibits civil immigration arrests inside courthouses or within 1,000 feet of them – effectively creating sanctuary zones where federal law cannot be enforced. Senate President Don Harmon (D-Oak Park) delivered a dramatic speech before the final vote, claiming to be “distraught and frightened” by federal enforcement actions. “I never thought I’d live in a world where masked federal employees, brandishing military-style weapons, would jump out of unmarked vans to kidnap and disappear people — U.S. citizens,” Harmon said. He alleged that federal agents are “targeting residents who look like” several Hispanic senators. House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch (D-Hillside) went even further, comparing the legislation to the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery. “History will judge our actions in this moment, just as it did our predecessors,” he said. While Democrats framed the bill as a moral stand, critics say it is an outrageous attack on federal law enforcement and a dangerous invitation for lawlessness. By turning schools, hospitals, and courthouses into “safe zones” for illegal immigrants, Illinois Democrats have essentially declared that federal immigration law doesn’t apply here. For the last few years, Illinois families have watched as Democrats diverted billions of taxpayer dollars toward programs for illegal aliens – including free health care for noncitizens – while law-abiding residents struggle to pay their bills and access quality care. Under Gov. Pritzker, Illinois became the first state in the nation to offer free health insurance to undocumented immigrants aged 42 and older – a program that has ballooned in cost to more than a billion dollars. Now, with HB 1312, Democrats are doubling down on policies that reward those who break the law and punish those who enforce it. At a time when violent crime and drug trafficking are surging across the state, Illinois lawmakers are focused not on protecting citizens, but on shielding illegal immigrants from federal agents. With this legislation, Illinois Democrats have made their priorities clear: illegal aliens first, law-abiding citizens last. The message to working families could not be clearer – if you play by the rules, you’re on your own. But if you break the law, the state will protect you, fund you, and even help you sue the federal agents trying to uphold justice. As Gov.
