(FROM THE ARTICLE: Ford, like many larger corporations, occasionally has to lay people off, change up its structure, or offer buyouts to accomplish either. As Ford Authority exclusively reported earlier this week, Ford Motor Company has initiated a buyout program for certain white-collar workers and teams dedicated to ICE-powered vehicles that includes six months of salary and healthcare benefits. However, a federal age discrimination lawsuit filed by eight employees alleges that the automaker targeted high-performing, older workers during the Ford downsizing process dubbed “Smart Redesign” back in 2019, according to the Detroit Free Press. According to internal Ford documents, under then-CEO Jim Hackett, the automaker hired Boston Consulting Group and tasked it with identifying employees that would present the most cost savings if their employment was terminated in the Ford downsizing effort. The lawsuit alleges that the consulting group used an algorithm that took into account the age of employees and their years of service. The latter bit is significant because employees hired prior to January 1st, 2004, were eligible for pension payments, which have, to date, cost Ford millions of dollars.)

(FROM THE LETTER: A sign of the times? Many of our Christian denominations are succumbing to the whims and immoral ways of secular society. They call it “inclusion” and “diversity.” Many churches have accepted non-traditional marriage and also treat abortion as if our God would accept those “choices.” Compromising with those specific issues is not in accordance with his word or his will. Our church pews are full of sinners, but those sinners are seeking forgiveness. Our God loves all repentant sinners but he detests their sin. He will not accept nor forgive any unrepentant sin. All sin must be addressed from the pulpit even if addressing them steps on some toes and results in fewer people in the pews. Our churches have been under tremendous stress. We must stand up and speak up about what is happening in our specific denomination. Our church’s failure to deal with certain sin dishonors our relationship with God. We are dishonoring the name of Christ, and we will be held accountable. Christian churches must separate themselves from the liberal elements that accept what our God has deemed abominations. If they do not they will become irrelevant and will no longer be considered churches seeking God’s will. What is your lifestyle and would our God approve of it? Is it carnal or seeking God’s will? Are you seeking God’s purpose for your life or are your seeking worldly pleasure and self-gratification? Do not come to the end of your life regretting what your life has become or the choices you made. Doing right today will ensure that the tomorrows take care of themselves. That includes making right choices in our churches. (FROM THE ARTICLE: NPR rolled out a substantial update to its ethics policy earlier this month, expressly stating that journalists may participate in activities that advocate for “the freedom and dignity of human beings” on both social media and in real life. The new policy eliminates the blanket prohibition from participating in “marches, rallies and public events,” as well as vague language that directed NPR journalists to avoid personally advocating for “controversial” or “polarizing” issues. NPR’s current ethics policy was first drafted in the early 2000s, and then given an overhaul in 2010-2011. The new NPR policy reads, “NPR editorial staff may express support for democratic, civic values that are core to NPR’s work, such as, but not limited to: the freedom and dignity of human beings, the rights of a free and independent press, the right to thrive in society without facing discrimination on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual identity, disability, or religion.” Is it OK to march in a demonstration and say, ‘Black lives matter’? What about a Pride parade? In theory, the answer today is, “Yes.” But in practice, NPR journalists will have to discuss specific decisions with their bosses, who in turn will have to ask a lot of questions. The carve-out is somewhat narrow. Protests organized with the purpose of demanding equal and fair treatment of people are now permitted, as long as the journalist asking is not covering the event. However, rallies organized to support a specific piece of legislation would be off-limits. Other events featuring a slate of political candidates from one party are also out of bounds. Even when NPR journalists can legitimately participate in a civic event, the new policy asks them to consider how their participation will impact their colleagues. When taking a public stance makes it harder for other NPR journalists to do their jobs, there is an expectation that the journalism will take precedence. This policy confronts the generations-old question in newsrooms: Where does the journalist end and the citizen begin?)
