(FROM THE ARTICLE: Shaw said Trump demonstrated reasons he should be given another four years in the White House by voters, though he would like to see some of the rhetoric reduced. A lawyer with a lot of courtroom experience, Shaw said he would like to see Trump and Biden talk to the audience like lawyers appeal to a judge. “I felt like President Trump seemed to have a pretty good command of what his administration accomplished while he has been president,” Shaw said. “I don’t think Joe Biden offered a vision of what he would accomplish as a president.” . . . DeMonte said Wallace fed Biden softball questions while directing harder inquiries at Trump. She said Biden received a pass from Wallace when the issue of Biden’s son, Hunter, was raised by Trump. The president accused both Bidens of corruption in the younger Biden’s business dealings. “Joe Biden must be asked his response to the New York Post published report showing emails tying him to his son Hunter’s shady foreign business dealings,” DeMonte said in an email. “Joe Biden must be directly asked if he stands by his statement that he never discussed Hunter’s foreign business dealings.”)

GOPUSA
— The Disunited States Of Oppression – Michelle Malkin
https://www.gopusa.com/?p=96613
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Is there any clearer sign of how privileged a society is than the disproportionate amount of time that society spends guilting citizens over how privileged they are? I’ll never forget the first time I encountered “critical race theory” and its overbearing adherents at my alma mater, Oberlin College, in the 1990s. Multicultural studies were all the rage. Higher education officials had torpedoed Western civilization curriculum requirements at prestigious universities nationwide. The ululations of the aggrieved reached a fever pitch as anti-white extremists demanded separate academic departments, dorms, graduation ceremonies and deans in the name of justice and equality. The entire spectacle was as self-indulgent as it was comical. Spoiled white limousine liberals’ children lectured me — a child of Filipino immigrants who came from a Third World country colonized by the Spanish, overtaken by Americans and occupied by the Japanese — for thinking and acting “white” because I opposed race-based affirmative action policies. A miserable feminist student castigated me for using the patriarchal term “exploit” (as in “exploiting an opportunity.”) Wealthy minority progressives — cloistered in their intolerant “safe spaces” on a campus full of entitled brats whose parents forked over $40,000 a year in tuition — whined about being systemically oppressed. The whiners whined all their way through their senior theses to secure their worthless degrees. A large portion of the whiners went on to graduate schools in advanced griping and grousing — and are now ensconced in the ivory tower of critical race theory babble, subsidized by tax dollars at public colleges and universities, venting from on high about how hopelessly downtrodden they are at the hands of the oppressors paying their cushy salaries. This toxic resentment has metastasized in academia and spread to the bowels of the federal bureaucracy.)

ACCOUNTING TODAY
— Illinois CPA Society seeks minority students for annual intern program – Sean McCabe (DIERSEN: Were you an intern? GAO audits IRS. When I transferred from IRS to GAO in 1980 when I was 31 years old, my Democrat GAO superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates did not want me to transfer, but failing that, they wanted me to transfer as a GS-4 Step 1 (currently $34,610/year) intern, that is, to suffer a $61,821/year (64%) pay cut in today’s dollars. They painted what GAO Analysts do as being a unique “trade or occupation.” They would not have done that if I had been a Democrat, minority, female, or veteran. They viciously demonized, denigrated, and condemned the fact a) that I had worked for IRS for almost 9 years, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $85,084-$96,431/year, b) that much of what IRS Revenue Officers do is similar to what GAO Analysts do, c) that I had passed the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979, d) that I had earned an MBA from Loyola in 1976, and e) that I had almost completed the requirements for a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul. They were furious that I transferred with me almost 12 years of federal seniority, 30 days of unused vacation days, and 130 unused sick days.)

POLITICO ILLINOIS
— Illinois means little to President Donald Trump by way of electoral votes, but the state still has some eager Republican donors. Donald Trump Jr. and his girlfriend, Kimberly Guilfoyle, the Trump campaign’s national finance chair, made a stop at Bull Valley Golf Club in Woodstock, Tuesday afternoon. The club is about 60 miles northwest of Chicago and has been a go-to spot for Republican fundraisers. Entry to this exclusive fundraiser was pricey, ranging from a $1,000 ticket for a single, no-frills ticket to $100,000 per couple for co-chair status (and lots of access), plus some price points in between. The event was hosted by Gary Rabine, owner of a Schaumburg-based paving and concrete company. Trump and Guilfoyle then headed to downtown Chicago for another schmoozy gathering with Trump Finance Chair and Cubs co-owner Todd Ricketts and philanthropist and political fundraiser Eleni Bousis (she and her husband, grocery chain owner Jim Bousis, were big supporters of former Gov. Bruce Rauner). Others rubbing elbows with Trump Jr.: Illinois Republican Committeeman Richard Porter, former Blackhawks player Jeremy Roenick, and Eloise Gerson, president of the 42nd Ward Republican Organization. Adding it all up: The Trump surrogate swing through Illinois was pulled together in just a few days and raised about $450,000. – Shia Kapos

https://www.newsweek.com/justice-thomas-wants-scotus-revisit-statute-granting-social-media-platforms-protection-users-1538790
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Thomas, a staunch conservative, referred to Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act of 1996, which says “no provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider.” Social media companies—like Facebook and Twitter—rely on this statute to remain protected from lawsuits resulting from offensive or inappropriate content that may be published by users. “Paring back the sweeping immunity courts have read into §230 would not necessarily render defendants liable for online misconduct. It simply would give plaintiffs a chance to raise their claims in the first place. Plaintiffs still must prove the merits of their cases, and some claims will undoubtedly fail. Moreover, States and the Federal Government are free to update their liability laws to make them more appropriate for an Internet-driven society,” Thomas wrote.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is questioning President Donald Trump’s fitness to serve, announcing legislation Thursday that would create a commission to allow Congress to intervene under the 25th Amendment to the Constitution and remove the president from executive duties. Just weeks before the Nov. 3 election, Pelosi said Trump needs to disclose more about his health after his COVID-19 diagnosis. She noted Trump’s “strange tweet” halting talks on a new coronavirus aid package – he subsequently tried to reverse course – and said Americans need to know when, exactly, he first contracted COVID as others in the White House became infected. On Friday, she plans to roll out the legislation that would launch the commission for review. “The public needs to know the health condition of the president,” Pelosi said, later invoking the 25th Amendment, which allows a president’s cabinet or Congress to intervene when a president is unable to conduct the duties of the office. Trump responded swiftly via Twitter. “Crazy Nancy is the one who should be under observation. They don’t call her Crazy for nothing!” the president said. The president’s opponents have discussed invoking the 25th Amendment for some time, but are raising it now, so close to Election Day, as the campaigns are fast turning into a referendum on Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic. More than 210,000 Americans have died and millions more infected by the virus that shows no signs of abating heading into what public health experts warn will be a difficult flu season and winter. Trump says he “feels great” after being hospitalized and is back at work in the White House. But his doctors have given mixed signals about his diagnosis and treatment. Trump plans to resume campaigning soon. Congress is not in legislative session, and so any serious consideration of the measure, let alone votes in the House or Senate, is unlikely. But the bill serves as a political tool to stoke questions about Trump’s health as his own White House is hit by an outbreak infecting top aides, staff and visitors, including senators. In a stunning admission, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Thursday that he had stopped going to the White House two months ago because he disagreed with its coronavirus protocols. His last visit was Aug. 6.)

EAGLE FORUM
— Party Platforms Matter
https://eagleforum.org/publications/focus/elections-101.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: What is happening to our country? American ValuesIf there ever were a time to go into the voting booth with eyes wide open, November 3 of 2020 is that time. The past few months have been an unfolding drama of lawlessness in the streets, anti-American curricula planned for the schools, and overt attacks on foundational beliefs that most Americans hold dear. The upheaval has been swift and destructive, leading many to wonder how anyone either in or seeking an elected leadership position would not speak out forcefully against the carnage. Some Democrat leaders of the affected cities have either actively called on the police to stand down, or they have decided not to publicly condemn the burning, looting, and murdering in their cities. Many Republicans, on the other hand, have called for a return to law and order, expressing concern not only for residents and business owners but also for the first responders who are risking their lives trying to help injured people and protect property. Are these dichotomous responses indicative of the philosophies of these leaders’ political parties, or are they simply personal views that have nothing to do with party affiliation? A comparison of the Republican and Democrat party platforms can provide much-needed information about the worldviews and intentions of current leaders and those who might be elected on November 3. What is a party platform? Political party platforms are official declarations of the principles, policy stances, and action items of the parties. Every four years, political parties gather for their national conventions where they nominate their presidential and vice-presidential candidates. They also write their platforms, the documents that outline where they stand on specific issues and what they intend to do on those issues if their candidates are elected. The differences in 2020 are stark. Republican – Democrat  If one were to judge the 2020 Republican and Democrat platforms simply by tone, even a cursory review of both would yield important insights into each party’s opinions of the country and its issues. The Democrat Party platform outlines what many might consider to be extremist views of this country – that it is irredeemably racist, that people who were instrumental in the founding and early leadership of the country are unworthy of respect or remembrance, and that the government should take over huge areas of its citizens’ lives. Law enforcement must be overhauled, and white supremacy and nationalism are ingrained sins that must be overcome. The Republican Party platform, on the other hand, begins with a dedication page to those who protect the country and its citizens: We dedicate this platform with admiration and gratitude to all who stand strong in the face of danger so that the American people may be protected against it – The men and women of our military, of our law enforcement, and the first responders of every community in our land – And to their families.)

https://www.chicagotribune.com/opinion/editorials/ct-edit-tribune-endorsements-us-house-one-20200929-aqyc7o6q4jealdlhwcgbqmdaxe-story.html
(FROM THE EDITORIAL: We start with a competitive race in the west and northwest suburbs between first-term Democratic congressman Sean Casten and Republican challenger Jeanne Ives, who came close to defeating Gov. Bruce Rauner in the 2018 gubernatorial primary. What we see in the Casten-Ives contest is what we long to see elsewhere in the Chicago area: A strong matchup. Competitive elections force candidates to be more accountable and transparent, and provide voters with the choices they deserve. . .6th Congressional District: Chicago? It’s “de facto bankrupt,” says Republican congressional candidate Jeanne Ives of Wheaton. The future of Illinois’ massive pension debt? “I’m happy to let free-market economics play out and bondholders beware. What we did with Puerto Rico is we basically set up a superstructure and a way for them to come to terms and figure out a haircut,” she says. Her bottom line: “People in Illinois can’t afford the taxes.” Ives is a fiscal and social conservative, and a policy wonk, who effectively speaks the hard truths about government spending. As a member of the Illinois House, she fought unbalanced budgets and unaccountable spending, and wasn’t afraid to take on corruption or one-party rule. Ives is seeking to oust freshman Democratic Rep. Sean Casten of Downers Grove, who took the seat in 2018 from Republican Peter Roskam. Casten says 6th District voters are pragmatic — pro-science and pro-markets — and in step with him. Casten’s top priority is solving global warming, though he doesn’t support the progressive Green New Deal. He wants to expand Obamacare but does not support a single, government provider of health care. Also running is Libertarian Bill Redpath of West Dundee. In this race, we side with Ives because of her sharp focus on government spending and her frank talk. You might not like to hear from the disciplinarian in the room. But Washington could use more hard truth-tellers. Ives is endorsed. . .Fricilone, who has served on the Will County Board for seven years, is a fiscal and social conservative. He says he’ll continue Lipinski’s common-sense approach by joining the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus, a group of moderate House members. Fricilone is endorsed.)
— Campaigning in the COVID-19 era: Is the Democrats’ safe approach hurting them? – WILL BUNCH (DIERSEN: Last Friday, I finished hand-delivering door-to-door the following to all 150 homes in my precinct a) that had at least one Republican or Independent voter and b) that had no Democrat yard signs: joint candidate piece from the Milton Township Republican Organization, sample ballot, an Illinois Family Institute Trump/Biden comparison piece, literature from the other 13 Republican candidates on the ballot in my precinct in contested races, and my GOPUSA Illinois business card. Six of the aforesaid pieces had to be folded to fit inside the envelopes provided by the DuPage County Republican Central Committee. The envelopes had on them a) mailing labels provided by the DuPage County Election Division for each individual Republican or Independent voter and b) my return address label.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Naperville Mayor Steve Chirico, a Republican, is endorsing Joe Biden for president, and all hell has broken out on his Facebook page. Chirico made the not-so-subtle announcement by putting up a Biden/Harris sign in his front yard. Then he photographed it and shared it on social media, saying: “Early voting has started. In my view, the state Democratic party has a serious character and ethics problem AND at the national level, the Republican party has a serious character and ethics problem. I will be voting accordingly.” One of the 745 respondents on Facebook asked: “Do you think this was a smart move as a Republican to put up a Biden sign? Your fellow Republicans in Naperville will remember that [the] next time you are up for reelection.” The mayor made it clear he’s splitting his ticket: “Obviously I’m supporting local Republicans and I hope other republicans who are not happy with the president will do the same.” Cherico was elected mayor in 2015 and re-elected last year. His wife is Julie Chirico, who helps organize fundraisers for the House Republican Organization. Neither returned Playbook’s calls for comment. The Chiricos’ lawn sign is another example of President Donald Trump and the Republican Party’s struggles nationwide to appeal to suburban, moderate voters — the kind of voters who turned on the GOP in the midterms. Naperville, which straddles DuPage and Will counties, has gone from a red town to one that isn’t afraid to vote blue. All three congressional seats that represent portions of the town — the third largest in the state next to Chicago and Aurora — are held by Democrats. Rep. Bill Foster won his 11th District seat in 2012; and Reps. Sean Casten and Lauren Underwood flipped their 6th and 14th seats, respectively in 2018. To be clear, Trump doesn’t really care how Chirico votes, given Illinois isn’t a swing state. But Naperville, a town ranked as “the best city in the country to raise a family,” is the kind of suburb Trump has coveted in this campaign. If we’re reading the tea leaves, we wonder if it’s an indicator of what election night will look like in November.)
