ILLINOIS REVIEW
— JOSHUA NAPONIELLO: MY DAY WITH DONALD TRUMP IN BOLINGBROOK (DIERSEN: Those who spoke very highly of Trump at this outstanding event included Roger Claar and Rudy Giuliani. The 300+ attendees included John Cabello, Brad Cole, Dan Cronin, Demetra DeMonte, Kirk Dillard, Ron Gidwitz, Dan Hampton, David MacNeil, Richard Porter, Todd Ricketts, Skip Saviano, Tim Schneider, Mickey Straub, and Dave Tornga.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: How crazy is it that I ended up volunteering for perhaps the next president of the United States? I mean you would have thought that by talking to Roger Claar the Mayor of Bolingbrook, I would volunteer at a Trump fundraiser! I can only say it was the best event that I have worked on in my early political life. Setting up tables was a challenge but greeting people by the door was amazing. Friendly faces, attitudes, familiar faces like (former State Senator) Kirk Dillard, (Bolingbrook Mayor) Roger Claar and (Chicago Cubs’ owner) Todd Ricketts. I also had the pleasure of sitting next to (former New York City Mayor) Rudy Giuliani during the lunch. The speech that Trump delivered was electrifying. Reducing regulations, repealing Obamacare, and lowering taxes on the middle class. Straight to the point concise, was how his speech was, and everyone stood and applauded our future president of the United States. Unfortunately, there was a negative point, as I was called traitor and fake by Mexican protesters against Trump, yet I kept my smile and head straight up and continued to help Trump. After the event I traveled outside to see Trump supporters waving American flags and chanting “USA,USA,USA”. I got to talk to some of the Trump supporters and we discussed Trump at the first debate. Another highlight was being quoted in a Chicago Tribune story, link here https://www.google.com/amp/www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/bolingbrook-plainfield/news/ct-nvs-trump-bolingbrook-st-0929-20160928-story,amp.html Otherwise I had a great time and learned from Trump what it means to be a leader. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/sns-bc-us–heroin-overdoses-backlash-20160925-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: First responders in U.S. communities reeling from waves of heroin overdoses say some people tell them they should just say no to using so many resources on drug abusers. Authorities say people have expressed frustration about rescuing addicts who often immediately resume using the potentially deadly drug. There are also concerns voiced about the wide-ranging social and government budget costs involved, including for the overdose antidote naloxone. Some signs of heroin overdose backlash: — Gov. Paul LePage in hard-hit Maine vetoed legislation this year to expand access to naloxone, usually under the brand name Narcan. He has explained that when people are receiving a dozen or more doses, they should start having to pay for it. The Legislature overrode his veto. — An effort by authorities in Ohio’s Hamilton County to get a dangerous heroin batch off the streets by offering immunity for people who turn in drugs drew a rebuke from Sheriff Richard Jones in neighboring Butler County, who argued it only enables dealers and users and gives them an excuse if they are caught. — A police photo of a grandmother and her boyfriend unconscious after overdosing with a 4-year-old boy in their car went viral this month after the police department in Ohio’s East Liverpool posted it on Facebook, drawing thousands of comments including from people decrying lenience toward users who endanger children or steal to support their habits. — A retired attorney wrote an op-ed column in The Cincinnati Enquirer examining the costs of treating heroin addiction, the strain on public resources and the rise in “drugged driving” accidents as he urged aggressive punishment. “What social policy is advanced by subsidizing recklessness?” John M. Kunst Jr., of suburban Cincinnati, wrote earlier this year. “Why do we excuse and enable addiction?” “I understand the frustration,” said Police Chief Thomas Synan Jr. of Newtown, Ohio, who heads a Cincinnati-area heroin coalition task force. “I understand the feeling that someone is doing something to themselves, so why do the rest of us have to pay? But our job is to save lives, period.”)

ANSWER: Diersen promotes the Republican Party platform, the Illinois Republican Party platform, and the Milton Township Republican Central Committee resolution against video gambling. He who pays the piper calls the tunes, and Diersen does not want anyone to call his tunes. Diersen can afford to donate the thousands of hours and thousands of dollars each year needed to put the emails together and to send them out. Diersen fills a tremendous communication void in Illinois. No one else provides an email service that even comes close to what Diersen does.)

My first Reader story – a freelanced restaurant review – ran in 1977, before many of my current colleagues were even born. I started covering politics for the paper in 1984. I’ve been a staff writer since 1990. That’s long enough for me to have learned a thing or two about what makes this paper so great. Yes, the Reader runs provocative theater, music, film, and food criticism, but just as important, its editors give writers the freedom to tell it like it is, even if we irritate the hell out of the powers that be.)
