(FROM THE ARTICLE: As if all this “science and data” the Governor claims he is following is not troubling enough, how about the tying of that data to the mask mandate? Early on the so-called “experts” warned that the use of masks for the healthy was not advised. In fact, it was discouraged for several reasons, of which one was because it could lead to more cases because people would be fiddling with their masks because they are not used to wearing one and that would lead to more cases. Looking at the data, Illinois hit a low from the first peak just after the middle of June. May 29th was the face mask mandate. About three weeks after that mandate, positive cases climbed. Is it possible the data is telling us the masks were doing exactly what the “experts” told us in the beginning? Considering I have yet to find one person who washes their mask after being out in public, it is quite possible that masks are a contributing factor to the increased numbers. Don’t take this to mean masks don’t help to slow the spread. We are simply suggesting the data points to more cases shortly after the mask mandate and that mandate had no guidance on the importance of making sure the mask you wear does not have a valve, is disposed of after use, or washed regularly if you’re using homemade masks. Lamont’s public appearances, carrying signs reading “liberty or death” and “stop the tyranny.” One Naugatuck man with a bullhorn said the governor had no right to require his 3-year-old daughter to wear a mask. Gov. Lamont has indeed issued a fair number of executive orders since he declared a state of emergency in the spring, and it’s important for the public to ask if he is overextending his authority — but in many cases, the answer is clearly “no,” and the mask protesters are missing the point and risking lives. The $100 fine for not wearing a mask is perfectly appropriate and, it appears, necessary to encourage compliance with a simple and painless act that saves lives. We told them they could stuff some campaign mailers into envelopes for Republican candidates, but when someone said the phrase ‘white envelopes,’ three of the former Young Democrats had full-blown panic attacks. As one African-American member of the Alaska Young Republicans told the Landmine, “I just tried to ask these people their names, but all they would say was ‘we’re here to listen.’ I asked them: ‘what are your names? Where are you from? Why do you want to join us?’ But it was always the same answer. ‘We’re just here to listen.’ Over and over again. It was pretty creepy, to be honest. I still don’t know who they were.” The former Alaska Young Democrats seemed confused and exhausted by the exchange, and decided to reconvene at a local cafe. However, after realizing that the cafe was owned by a Korean-American family, and not Black-owned as previously believed, the Democrats began packing up to leave. Speaking anonymously, one member told the Landmine, “This whole thing has been so bewildering. There were more racial and ethnic minorities in the Young Republicans than in the Young Democrats. Were they just suffering from internalized racism? Were they transracial? Was our white existence threatening these BIPOC? Even after reading ‘White Fragility’ and ‘Between the World and Me,’ we just don’t know what to do. It’s almost like we can’t tell what racism is anymore.”)
