(FROM THE ARTICLE: As the high-level organizers of the “No Kings” demonstrations seek to turn their operation into a nationwide get-out-the-vote rally Saturday, their warning to steer clear of partisan messaging that could violate their own rules is falling on deaf ears. A Fox News Digital investigation reveals that, on the ground, the political activation is in fact highly partisan, led by the center-left Indivisible nonprofit that has received millions of dollars of funding from Democratic mega-donor George Soros. “No Kings” organizers didn’t respond to a request for comment. The partisan nature of the day’s events is important because political experts say the “No Kings” operation reveals a sophisticated electoral strategy: transform the crowds assembled for anti-Trump protests into a durable voter bloc that participates in elections and turns out a “Blue Tsunami” of votes in political battles. But federal election law bars nonprofits, many of which fund the “No Kings” operation, from advocating for particular candidates. Behind today’s action, Fox News Digital has identified a sprawling network of 300 progressive advocacy organizations, labor unions, Democratic political operatives and tax-exempt nonprofits with an estimated $2.5 billion in annual revenues, transforming the “No Kings” protest movement into a nationwide voter-mobilization operation of an estimated 3,000 events for Democrats. A review of digital advertisements for Saturday’s “No Kings: Vote Early” demonstrations and their organizing rhetoric identifies multiple instances of organizers promoting the very language the coalition’s national rulebook forbids in its attempt to create the illusion of nonpartisanship. In Newark, Delaware, Democratic activists from the local Indivisible chapter are encouraging voters to “wear blue” to their 2 p.m. demonstration at the corner of S. College Avenue and W. Main Street, and their “Sign Ideas” include: “Vote Blue Nov. 3,” “Vote Early, Vote Blue” and “Time for a Blue Tsunami.” Their announcement reads: “💙 Wear blue to signify the blue tsunami we are hoping we will see in Nov!” Some 3,000 miles away, in Roseburg, Ore., Indivisible Douglas County activists are advertising their own “No Kings” rally with suggested signs reading “DOUGLAS COUNTY VOTES BLUE!,” “REPUBLICANS HAD THEIR CHANCE!” and “VOTE EARLY. VOTE THEM OUT!” Those are precisely the kinds of partisan political messages the national “No Kings” coalition has explicitly prohibited. On a Thursday night webinar promoting the protests, a member of Indivisible Colorado Springs told Indivisible co-founders Leah Greenberg and Ezra Levin that the group’s event is struggling to attract media attention without focusing on President Donald Trump. Levin replied: “By all means, make it about Trump. Y’all make it about Trump. Create some conflict. Use some strong language. There’s nothing about No Kings that says you can’t focus on the fascists in the White House.” “Be bold. Be direct. Don’t hold back,” the Oregon organizers tell participants. Under “Event Prohibitions,” a “Host Toolkit” warns: “Events must not be partisan in nature or make references to preferred election outcomes.” It bars “candidate campaign activity,” “any political party or political committee attending or helping coordinate the event.” The “Event Prohibitions” list bars events from being held at “overtly partisan organizations, or held at campaign offices, political party headquarters, or other locations principally associated with candidate or party political activity.” The prohibitions explicitly state: “Events should not be jointly branded with partisan organizations,’ and provides as “Examples: Democratic clubs, ‘the Lincoln County Democratic Party.'” Yet, in Roseville, Calif., the Placer County Democratic Party in California is explicit in its connection to the “No Kings” voter drive, advertising a canvassing operation specifically tied to Saturday’s “No Kings” rally at the Roseville Galleria. The party’s website invites activists to attend a morning canvassing session at Harry Crabb Park, saying voters will be gathered at the rally at the Galleria and promising materials to help participants “support our endorsed candidates.” On their Democratic Party website, the local party activists describe the “No Kings” rally as “a day of nonpartisan voter participation.” The advertisement raises questions about the relationship between the Democratic Party’s candidate-support operation and an event whose national organizers expressly prohibit political parties, political committees and candidate campaigns from coordinating activities. In Springfield, Pa., an event listed on the Women’s March organizing platform advertises a one-hour “No Kings FOUR” demonstration at 1200 Baltimore Pike. The event calls for voter participation and, in another direct conflict with the national coalition’s ban on “vote Blue” appeals, also declares: “Vote Blue. Vote. Make Your Voice Count.” Rules They Wrote Themselves. The coalition’s own documents leave little ambiguity about its official standards. In a five-page “Talking Points + Messaging” guide, organizers instruct participants not to use partisan political language, including telling participants to “vote for Democrats up and down the ballot” or saying, “we can get a Democratic Congress elected in 2026 to resist Trump.” It bars any “speaker expressing bias for or against any candidate for office,” the guide states. It prohibits candidate campaign activities, including campaign literature, fundraising and coordination with campaign staff. Political parties and political committees are also barred from helping coordinate events. The instructions go beyond conventional warnings against endorsements. Organizers specifically prohibit references to “MAGA politicians” and calls to elect a Democratic Congress. Even urging participants to register as Democrats ahead of the midterms is explicitly forbidden. Another document, “Event Prohibitions + Things to Note,” specifically prohibits “vote them out” and “vote Blue” messaging, campaign fundraising and political party coordination. Still, in Kingstowne, Va., Indivisible of Franconia is promoting its Oct. 17 rally at South Van Dorn Street and Kingstowne Village Parkway with the statement: “We vote for leaders to represent our interests—and if they don’t, we need to vote them out.” The coalition also prohibits events hosted or co-sponsored by overtly partisan organizations, including Democratic clubs. Its “Election Law FAQs” and “Resources” go further, warning that merely describing an event as “nonpartisan” doesn’t establish that it meets the standard. “Saying this doesn’t automatically make it so,” the document states. Democratic Infrastructure Behind No Kings. The contradictions come as “No Kings” draws on a sprawling coalition of advocacy organizations, labor unions and political activists. In March, Fox News Digital identified about 500 organizations associated with the movement, representing an estimated $3 billion in combined annual revenues. The coalition partner list for today’s protests is smaller but continues to include major labor organizations such as the American Federation of Teachers, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, the National Education Association and the Service Employees International Union. It also includes organizations that align with the Democratic Party, including: Indivisible, MoveOn, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, End Citizens United, NextGen America, Our Revolution, Voto Latino and the Democratic Socialists of America. Most of these organizations or their affiliated political committees have histories of substantial spending to support Democratic candidates and causes. Their involvement places organizations with extensive electoral experience inside a coalition now publicly promising to avoid partisan campaign activity. JB Pritzker over Republican gubernatorial nominee Darren Bailey, allegedly launched an unprovoked, profanity-laced verbal attack against a female Illinois Review contributor Thursday evening during a political fundraiser at Hinsdale Prime Steak, according to the contributor herself and eyewitnesses who spoke with Illinois Review. The target of Durkin’s alleged outburst was Janelle Towne, a longtime Republican activist and contributor to Illinois Review, one of Illinois’ prominent conservative, pro-Trump news publications. According to Towne and multiple witnesses, Durkin called her a “f—ing bitch” and criticized her for supporting Bailey, whom he referred to as a “hillbilly loser.” Towne told Illinois Review that she had done nothing to provoke the confrontation and that it occurred near the front door of the restaurant. Towne is no stranger to Durkin. A former constituent of the Western Springs Republican, she has known him for years. She is also an outspoken supporter of President Donald Trump and a frequent visitor to Mar-a-Lago, the president’s private residence in Palm Beach, Florida. Towne has never been shy about her support for Trump or conservative Republican candidates like Bailey. Durkin, meanwhile, has long opposed Trump and has become increasingly outspoken against the party’s MAGA wing. Durkin’s disagreements with Trump and his influence on the Republican Party date back years. In December 2023, Illinois Review reported that Durkin had decided against running for Cook County State’s Attorney, citing Trump’s potential presence at the top of the Republican ticket. “I see no path winning with Trump at the top of the ticket,” Durkin told CBS Chicago at the time. But Thursday’s alleged confrontation goes beyond political differences. A former Republican legislative leader allegedly directing a degrading, gender-directed insult at a woman over her political support is a serious matter, particularly for someone who spent years representing the public in Springfield. The incident comes less than fourteen days after Durkin appeared in a campaign video endorsing Pritzker for a third term. In it, he said he would not “throw away or waste a vote” on Bailey, whose campaign he called a “foolish escapade.” Durkin now works in government affairs as “of counsel” at Point of Difference Strategies, a Chicago lobbying firm led by Lisa Duarte, a former senior official in the Pritzker administration. As Illinois Review previously reported, the firm is registered to represent 37 clients in Springfield, including AbbVie, United Airlines, Nicor Gas, the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Transit Authority. Those clients are represented by the firm, not necessarily by Durkin individually. Durkin spent years in Springfield as one of Illinois’ most influential Republicans, including nearly a decade as House Republican leader. Although he has left elected office, his work in government affairs keeps him connected to the same political institutions he once helped lead. Political disagreements are nothing new. But according to Towne, Thursday night’s encounter at Hinsdale Prime Steak went beyond a disagreement over candidates. They allege that a former Republican legislative leader directed a degrading, profanity-laced insult at a woman he has known for years because of her support for Darren Bailey. Bailey, a former state senator from downstate Illinois, is an evangelical Christian, and founded a private Christian school with his wife. Pritzker’s campaign has published press releases attacking Bailey for his and his school’s theological stances. On October 14, for example, the campaign mocked Bailey because his school upholds biblical positions on the family, including that a husband “leads the family” — as opposed to the radical social agenda taught in government schools. Pritzker campaign spokesperson Leah Hurwitz disingenuously claimed that “Darren Bailey has used his own school to indoctrinate children into his extreme views.” In reality, government schools have indoctrinated millions of American children into rejecting biblical principles and adopting actual extreme views such as Marxism and critical race theory. Not the First Attack. This was not the first time that Pritzker’s campaign attacked Bailey’s Christian faith. On September 17, it launched a television ad attacking Bailey because his school uses curriculum that teaches biblical creation. In a press release published the following day, the campaign labeled the school’s curriculum “extreme,” and smeared biblical creation as a “false dinosaur hoax.” Pritzker’s attack effectively targeted millions of Americans. For example, Gallup polling indicates that a plurality of Americans believe in biblical creation. Additionally, many scientists continue to openly reject evolution as scientifically unsound. Responding to this attack, Bailey said that he wanted “to talk about high property taxes [and] high utility costs.” He called the attacks — and the media’s fixation on them — a “perfect example of JB Pritzker being successful by diverting the message.” Perhaps not surprisingly in a blue state, Pritzker’s campaign has also attacked both Bailey and his running mate for opposing abortion. The Illinois Democratic Party has joined in attacking Bailey’s Christian faith. In a Facebook post on October 14, David Smith, executive director of the Christian-conservative Illinois Family Institute, highlighted an anti-Bailey mailer that he received, paid for by the party. Headlined “Darren Bailey: Not this extremist b******t again,” the vulgar mailer attacked Bailey’s Christian beliefs, including “believ[ing] God intended for men to be the head of households” and “oppos[ing] the right to an abortion.” Pritzker’s and Bailey’s Records. In his post, Smith noted that “the hypocrisy is staggering coming from JB Pritzker, who repealed parental notification of abortion, expanded taxpayer funding for abortion, [and] legalized assisted suicide. His ‘culture of death’ agenda is extremism on steroids.” Bailey served in the Illinois House of Representatives from 2019 to 2021, and in the Senate from 2021 to 2023, earning an 83-percent lifetime Freedom Score. By contrast, the Illinois General Assembly’s average Freedom Score currently sits at a dismal 23.4 percent. America’s Biblical Foundation. Pritzker’s attacks on Bailey’s Christian faith illustrate how far the United States has drifted from its biblical foundation — a foundation that no informed American can miss. For example, the Declaration of Independence acknowledges that “all men … are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights,” including the rights to “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. Additionally, in his 1796 Farewell Address, President George Washington noted that, “of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports.” In a 1798 letter to the Massachusetts Militia, President John Adams declared, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious People. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” And in its 1892 decision in Church of the Holy Trinity v. United States, the U.S. Supreme Court declared explicitly that the United States “is a Christian nation.” Instead of upholding America’s founding principles, a large segment of American leaders, including Pritzker, advocate policies such as abortion, euthanasia, gun control, and draconian government regulations that blatantly violate them — and many are openly condescending of traditional Christian principles. This trend is not limited to a single party, as The New American’s Freedom Index demonstrates. Defending Biblical Principles. With America’s biblical foundation under attack, traditionally minded Americans must push back. For example, parents must get their children out of government schools and instead homeschool them or place them in vetted private schools, such as FreedomProject Academy. Indoctrination via government schools and universities has been a key cause of America’s moral decline, and parents must not allow it get hold of their children. Americans must also educate their family, friends, and neighbors about their elected officials’ records. Few people are aware of how their leaders govern, or even know who their representatives are. The New American’s Freedom Index, which evaluates federal and state legislators based on their adherence to the U.S. Constitution and America’s founding principles, is an excellent place to start. Restoring adherence to America’s founding principles requires an informed and activated electorate. The John Birch Society, the parent organization of The New American, has been working tirelessly for nearly 70 years to educate Americans and motivate them to action, spearheading organized action in local communities to influence elected officials. Raja Krishnamoorthi said he and his family were at the Aurora Hindu temple Sunday when authorities allege a 19-year-old Palatine man attempted to carry out a mass shooting there. “I am horrified that a white supremacist attempted to carry out a mass shooting targeting Indian Americans at the Hindu temple in Aurora where my family worships,” the Schaumburg Democrat said in a statement Thursday. Krishnamoorthi, citing information from Cook County prosecutors, said Alexandros Paporakis attempted to open fire on the Sri Venkateswara Swami Balaji Temple before his rifle jammed. Paporakis later told co-workers what happened and shared plans to try again, according to Krishnamoorthi, but the co-workers informed police, who arrested the suspect before he could return. Palatine police said Wednesday they arrested Paporakis Sunday evening as he left his home in the 1300 block of North Baldwin Court. Investigators later found a manifesto attributed to Paporakis entitled “Why I Fought: A.K.A. (Aurora Shooter’s Manifesto)” and containing statements expressing white supremacist and extremist ideologies, police said. Police said officers also discovered weapons, hundreds of rounds of rifle ammunition, tactical equipment, body armor and a patch containing imagery associated with white supremacist extremism at Paporakis’ home. Paporakis is being held in Cook County Jail facing charges of making a terrorist threat and unlawful possession of weapons. He is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 30. At a news conference Thursday, Palatine Police Chief William Nord said investigators identified a red Acura RDX registered to Paporakis entering the parking lot of the temple at about 12:25 p.m. Sunday then leaving 13 minutes later. “Our investigation has revealed, and it can be confirmed as of right now, that he has been alone in this plan,” he said. “He did reveal some details in the manifesto that he has been planning this for some time.” Paporakis has been living in Palatine with his mother for approximately year, but police had no previous contacts with him, Nord said. (FROM THE ARTICLE: At her inaugural briefing as President Donald Trump’s new press secretary Tuesday morning, Katie Zacharia answered a handful of questions. But she raised many more. Among them: Why all the unnatural pauses while reading out loud from a binder? What’s with the weird hand gesture where she taps her fingertips together? Is she the first press secretary in history to publicly mix up the president with their own spouse? Why did she flee the briefing room after just 14 minutes, only eight of them spent taking questions? Zacharia appears to have extensive experience at being unqualified for her job. According to the investigative journalism newsletter Popular Information, she has repeatedly described herself as a lawyer despite there being no evidence she ever passed the bar exam. (Later today, when asked which state she passed the bar in, Zacharia replied, “When I moved to China.” I have no idea what that means.) Yet those of us with low expectations were shocked by how poorly she performed. Conservative media was less harsh, but only slightly. “She’s emphasizing the wrong words when she’s communicating what she has to say,” said a body-language expert quoted in the New York Post. “And she needs some basic training.” In a way, I can empathize. I started working in the Obama White House when I was 24. I needed some basic training, too. But I was hired for a junior role, while press secretary is one of the White House’s most senior positions. We can argue about whether promoting Trump’s agenda is helpful or harmful to the American people, or whether appointing someone who spread Pizzagate and QAnon conspiracy theories to speak on the administration’s behalf is a good idea. One thing I suspect nearly all Americans agree on, however, is this: If you’re going to serve as the press secretary for the White House, you shouldn’t be bad at the most basic parts of your job. Trump used to make exactly that point. In 2015, he promised that if he were elected president, he would “surround myself only with the best and most serious people.” It would be easy to conclude that — like two-dollar-a-gallon gas or no new wars in the Middle East — Trump’s pledge to hire the best people is just another broken promise. But the truth might be more complicated — and in a way, more dangerous for the country. Perhaps the problem isn’t that Trump and MAGA don’t really care about meritocracy. It’s that they have a different definition of merit than the rest of us do. Just look at the president’s statement announcing Zacharia’s hiring as press secretary. He pointed to her “unblemished record of support” and the fact that she has “been a loyal and brilliant supporter, right from the beginning.” He ended his statement on Truth Social, whose parent company Zacharia once advised, by saying, “She is, likewise, a devoted fan and member of MAGA!” These are not what most of us would consider to be professional qualifications. I assume the New York Giants appreciate their biggest fans. So, I’m sure, does Marvel Studios or the members of the K-pop group BTS. But that doesn’t mean they’re invited to play quarterback, star as Peter Parker in the next Spider-Man or perform “Swim” on the next world tour. Even Trump’s strongest supporters don’t make hiring decisions this way. Elon Musk clearly gets an ego boost from his legion of social media groupies. But when he hires for his companies or political operations, he tends to choose people he thinks will be effective, not just supportive. Trumpworld functions differently. It’s a mistake to ask whether Trump thinks his new press secretary is qualified or merely sycophantic. For Trump, sycophancy is a form of qualification. At times, the anti-meritocracy in the White House has worked out well for the president‘s opponents. Trump’s own team concluded that former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s public appearances helped sink the president’s approval ratings on immigration. The weaponization of federal law enforcement against the president’s enemies is terrifying — which makes it a form of relief that FBI Director Kash Patel spends at least some of his time chugging beers with hockey players when he could beleading politicized investigations instead. But competence matters. And incompetence at the highest levels of government hurts all Americans, regardless of who they vote for. When the president makes it clear that his staff members’ most important job is soothing his fragile ego, it’s no surprise that they drop the ball in other areas, such as figuring out how to bring down prices or avoid a deadly and expensive quagmire in the Middle East. Rallying in Ohio, Trump admitted that his public relations could use some work. But his real problem runs far deeper than that. Ironically, it’s one that MAGA has spent an enormous amount of time warning us about: the possibility that the government will hire people based on their identity, without regard to their ability to do the job. “DEI is dead at DoD,” said Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth in one of his earliest speeches. “We’re building a merit-based culture that promotes and rewards individual initiative, excellence and hard work.” But as Zacharia’s embarrassing first briefing demonstrates yet again, DEI, as the Trump administration itself defines it, isn’t dead. (FROM THE EDITORIAL: With Election Day less than a month away, voters should look beyond campaign slogans and ask what the policies on the ballot would mean for families who built their lives around work, homeownership, savings and the hope that their children can do better. A growing socialist movement promises to make life fairer by putting more of the economy under government control. The Democratic Socialists of America’s 2026 program calls for publicly owned housing, universal rent control and public ownership of the largest corporations and essential industries. Those proposals deserve serious scrutiny. They would shift decisions about housing, investment and production away from individuals and businesses and toward government. That shift in control carries real risks for the middle class. Rent control may protect some tenants from increases in the short term, but it cannot create the homes a growing community needs. Research on San Francisco found that rent control reduced displacement for covered tenants while also contributing to a loss of rental housing that pushed market rents higher over time. Policies that discourage construction can leave more families competing for fewer homes. Public ownership raises an equally basic question: Who decides what gets built, what it costs and who gets access? Government programs can serve essential needs, but concentrating control over major industries in government would give political leaders enormous influence over people’s jobs, choices and livelihoods. Calling that “democratic control” does not guarantee competent management or protect citizens from political favoritism. The middle class already feels squeezed by housing costs, healthcare bills, energy prices and taxes. The answer should be to make it easier to build homes, start businesses, find good jobs and keep more of what families earn. An agenda that expands government control while discouraging private investment could narrow opportunity and make everyday necessities more expensive. Warnings about socialism aren’t just coming from Republicans. Sen. John Fetterman has said in fundraising appeals in recent weeks: “I’m always going to reject Socialism and the Anti-American way of life.” Voters should consider why a senator willing to cross partisan lines draws such a clear distinction between socialism and the American principles of individual freedom and opportunity. Candidates’ words matter. Democratic Michigan congressional candidate William Lawrence once described his goal as “destroying the American way of life” while criticizing consumerism. The context matters, and voters should consider his full remarks. But a phrase that sweeping demands a clear explanation of what he would preserve and what he would replace. This is not a choice between accepting every failure in today’s economy and surrendering more power to government. Families need a stronger path to homeownership, better schools, reliable public safety and healthcare they can afford. Those goals require accountable institutions and practical reforms, not promises that government can manage every part of life better than people can. The American dream has never been guaranteed. It depends on individual freedom, hard work and an economy that rewards initiative while giving people room to recover from setbacks. Voters should sound the warning when candidates offer policies that put those foundations at risk. The middle class should not become the experiment on which ideological promises are tested.)

If he had been female, younger, or veteran, they would have succeeded in forcing me to retire sooner because I had been eligible to take early retirement since I was 45 in 1993. I passed the Certified Internal Auditor examination on my first attempt and became a licensed CPA in 1981. I earned a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul in 1980.
