Illinois Republican Party leader and Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar has pledged $500 and Judge Jeff MacKay has pledged $250. Of course, I have promised the Wheaton Park District, the organizer of the parade and fireworks, that I will cover any fundraising shortfall.

As a $2,500 Star sponsor, DuPage County Republicans will get credit for sponsoring the Tunes of Glory bagpipers and the Wheaton North and South High School bands in the parade. DuPage Republicans will again have a booth at the fireworks the evening before the parade. I will again hand deliver a flyer to all the residences and businesses on the parade route that lists the Republican entries in the parade, the Republican sponsors, and the amount that they contributed. The flyers will be printed courtesy of Alpha Graphics and I plan on delivering them on Thursday, June 21. (FROM THE ARTICLE: Last week, with a high-stakes summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un on the horizon and plenty of news coverage in the Daily Herald and elsewhere about an “Impeach Trump” yard sign in Elgin, Ernest Lasse decided that someone ought to show some support for the president. Lasse installed in front of his Mount Prospect home a roughly 15-square-foot plywood sign reading “TRUMP” in big red letters, surrounded by the words “Make America Great Again.” Not being naive, Lasse knew the sign wouldn’t be popular with everyone. He set up a camera in his front window to capture video of anyone who would do the sign harm. Sure enough, footage shows that a pair of young men came along about 9:30 p.m. Friday and stole the sign from the yard. Lasse found pieces of it the next morning on the bank of nearby Weller Creek. Police were called, reports were written and charges are possible. But before he pursues a formal complaint, Lasse has an offer he hopes the vandals can’t refuse.)

That is actually repeated a number of times throughout the Bible.” Roskam joins other Republicans, including Speaker Paul Ryan, to raise concerns with the policy. Roskam’s statement on Thursday called for a full reversal. “The events unfolding at our nation’s borders are heartbreaking. Being forcibly separated from a child is a parent’s worst nightmare and I cannot fathom the pain these families are enduring. Every day these children spend apart from their parents, confused, scared, and alone, inflicts additional and unnecessary trauma,” Roskam said in a statement. “While I believe we have a responsibility to secure our borders, I also believe that how we treat strangers reflects the moral values this country was founded on. Dragging children away from their parents ought not be a part of the solution.” Roskam has been under intense pressure by both constituents and donors to come up with a resolution on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. Roskam’s suburban district has the largest DACA population of any Illinois member, according to the Illinois Business Immigration Commission. Yet under the Obama administration, hiring practices for the federal government were moved away from merit to fulfill goals irrelevant to the positions. Charles Owen worked for STM as a temp in 2008 for about one year, filling in for an employee who was on assignment in China. In 2013, he was asked to return to STM to fill a second vacancy. Upon his return, he learned the position he had filled in 2008 was now vacant and applied for the job. The job posting specified that the company desired about 10 years of experience. Owen met all the criteria for the opening but was told by the person to whom he was reporting at the time that they didn’t want “someone with so much experience that they would be inflexible.” Owen was in his 60s, and the job ultimately went to a 36-year-old candidate. Owen sued, and the judge refused to dismiss his claim, saying that “a reasonable juror could find [the supervisor’s] comment about experience and inflexibility to be indicative of age discrimination.”)

I think the smarter move is for us to focus our time and energy on China, which – there’s all kinds of trade infractions. ROSKAM: So the challenge with stopping the president through legislation obviously is the president would have to sign the bill. (FROM THE ARTICLE: For a Republican Party that celebrates capitalism and the American dream of building wealth, the GOP’s initial line of attack against the new Iowa Democratic nominee for governor appears a bit out of character. Fred Hubbell, a former life insurance executive whose family wealth dates back to the mid-1800s, won the Democratic nomination Tuesday and will face Gov. Kim Reynolds in November. Almost immediately, Reynolds and party leaders questioned how voters could trust a candidate who was born rich and later served in leadership roles at several companies. Hubbell’s family businesses in Des Moines include ties to real estate and insurance. “The issue isn’t that Fred Hubbell has been rich his entire life, it’s that he has no idea what it’s like not to be,” said Reynolds during her election night speech. “He has no idea what it’s like to balance a family checkbook or to make the tough decisions most of us make each and every day when we’re trying to make ends meet.” Republican Party of Iowa Chairman Jeff Kaufmann has chimed in by repeatedly referring to Hubbell, 67, as “Prince Frederick.” On election night, the party posted a photo-shopped image of Hubbell on its Facebook page as the Monopoly board game mascot, with a top hat, monocle and bags of money surrounding him. Never mind that Reynolds and Iowa GOP party leaders are big supporters of President Donald Trump, a rich businessman who surrounds himself with conspicuous wealth at his lavish properties such as Mar-a-Lago. In the Iowa governor’s race between a woman of modest means and a man who donated nearly $3 million of his own money toward his primary race, the GOP so far is zeroing in on personal wealth. It’s a strategy tried before as more rich candidates run for office from both parties, many of them also funneling millions of dollars to fund their own campaigns. In neighboring Illinois, for example, Democrat J.B. Pritzker, a billionaire member of the family that founded Hyatt hotels, has put more than $100 million of his own money into his bid to unseat Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner, a wealthy former private equity investor. When he won in 2014, Rauner was accused of trying to buy the election.)
