— Dear millennials, now is the time to invest in your unexpected future – JERRY DAVICH (DIERSEN: According to my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes who saved far less for their retirement than I did, I was able to do save more for my retirement because I avoided the draft, the federal government grossly overpaid me, I had good health, I paid less federal income tax by itemizing, my wife had a good job, we gave up trying to have children, we did not adopt, we did not become foster parents, I did not give lots of money to churches like they did, etc.)
https://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/post-tribune/opinion/ct-ptb-davich-saving-for-retirement-while-young-st-1030-20191029-ljhsqft2drg2veqxg2zxbmmpmy-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: One hundred dollars a month. This was how much money my financial adviser told me to save, back when I was in my 20s and 30s. “Damn it, Jerry, if you do this you’ll have a retirement nest egg waiting for you 30 years from now,” George Wilson told me sternly. He was one of my father’s poker buddies who once sold me a life insurance policy. He was intimidating and outspoken. He also was 100% right. Wilson tried slipping me a proverbial ace in the hole for my losing hand of cards in life. I was too stupid and shortsighted to accept it. After a few years of scraping together $100 each month to pay into this seemingly mythical retirement fund, I stopped contributing. I eventually cashed it in to pay off some credit card bills, telling myself that I couldn’t afford it any longer. It was the cheapest rationalization I could afford back then. At that point in my life, I was earning a meager income in a family food business, I had two young children, and I was already thinking of cashing in my marriage. Putting away $100 a month, every month for 30-plus years, seemed impossible. My wiser self in the future has never forgiven my stupid self from the past. In my younger days, I likely spent $100 a month on “must have” purchases – my Coca-Cola addiction, drive-through junk food, weekend entertainment in Chicago, a massive collection of music cassettes and CDs, you name it. These unnecessary expenditures, in hindsight, have only compounded my anger toward myself. I try to keep this in mind when I now hear about millennials who believe retirement savings is a myth or a rumor they’ve been told by gray-haired geezers like me. What do we know, right? In my 20s, I thought the same thing about “old man Wilson,” who was only in his 40s at the time. He seemed to be in his 70s or 80s. (He’s still around. Please don’t tell him.) Youth has a way of distorting our perception of life. We had more answers than questions. We had more time than money. We had more reasons to not think about getting older, getting unhealthy, or getting prepared for retirement. It all seemed so… impossible, or at least improbable. As if it would never happen.)

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
— Chicago teachers can save 244 unused sick days, retire early under new contract The tentative agreement raises the cap on accrued sick days from 40 to 244; some longtime teachers could use those days to retire a year early and still collect their full pension. – Matthew Hendrickson (DIERSEN: Almost all of my Democrat superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates in the federal government took many more sick days than I did. Starting in 1966, when I was 18 years old, they made it very clear that they did NOT want me to take any sick days. They hinted/implied/argued/shouted that I should NOT get that benefit for many reasons including I avoided the draft, had good health, was non-poor, had more education, professional certifications and/or licenses than they did, was Republican, was conservative, was Protestant (baptized, raised, and confirmed as a Missouri Synod Lutheran), was 100% German American, my wife had a good job, we gave up trying to have children, we did not adopt, we did not become foster parents, and/or my ancestors have been in America since 1844. Nevertheless, they are furious that my Civil Service Retirement System pension is higher because of my many used sick days.)

What if the Daily Herald had published lots of information on the 10 candidates including their demographics, how long they lived in the West District and in Wheaton, their work experience, their education, their professional certifications and licenses, etc.? https://www.daily-journal.com/news/local/david-giuliani-party-insiders-keep-public-out-of-loop/article_b37e8b84-fbf4-11e9-b989-27e219b5c676.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The process to appoint a replacement for state Sen. Toi Hutchinson, D-Olympia Fields, is veiled in secrecy. That’s the way it usually works. Under state law, local party leaders have the right to fill legislative vacancies. Unlike other states, no special elections are held. Because Hutchinson is a Democrat, her party will choose a successor. When asked about it, a local Democratic Party leader revealed there were four applicants for the position but declined to identify them. I’m told Hutchinson’s last day is Sunday. After she resigns, the state party has 30 days to appoint a replacement. Both Democrats and Republicans typically cloak the entire appointment process in secrecy. However, Kankakee County Democratic Chairman John Willard said his party will hold a public meeting, although constituents will be barred from asking questions of candidates. I’m glad a public meeting is planned, but I think candidates should field questions from prospective constituents — something like the interview process for presidential candidates at Kankakee Community College. Why can’t we hold special elections when legislators resign? Both Democrats and Republicans warn that such elections cost taxpayers a lot, while private appointment processes cost practically nothing. That’s an easy argument for them to make because they’re the ones filling vacancies. But it could be argued the costs of special elections are worth the benefits to democracy. Most vacancies occur when legislators resign. The most understandable reason is health. But many others quit because they find higher-paying jobs, often as lobbyists. Hutchinson is leaving to take a $220,000-a-year job in Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s administration. For years, I have suspected that so many legislators resign in Illinois because party insiders get to appoint replacements. It would be harder to quit mid-term if they knew that taxpayers would foot the bill for a special election. I decided to see how Illinois compares against Iowa, which holds special elections when vacancies occur. I checked on how members of each state’s senate got into office in the first place.)

While I worked for the federal government for almost 30 years, my Democrat superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates asked me questions to get/confirm information to use against me. For example, that I was Protestant (baptized, raised, and confirmed as a Missouri Synod Lutheran), conservative, Republican, born in 1948, non-poor, my wife had a good job, we had given up trying to have children, we did not adopt, we did not become foster parents, gun owner, 100% German American, raised in Crete, my ancestors had been in America since 1844, in 1988 when I was 40 years old I became an active member in a class action lawsuit that charged my GAO superiors with reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation, I was eligible to take early retirement in 1993 when I was 45 years old, etc. They frequently asked me questions to confirm that I opposed the promotion of dependency on government, dependency on charity, LGBTQ activity, abortion, mass/illegal immigration, abolition of the First and Second Amendments, illegal drugs, booze, gambling, pot, and other vices, patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, retaliation, etc.)

My IRS superiors were under tremendous pressure a) to hire, retain, and promote young Democrat minorities and young Democrat females and b) to make way for them by getting rid of their employees who were Republican, White, male, and/or non-veteran who had not made GS-13 (currently $98,198) by age 25, GS-14 (currently $116,040) by age 30, GS-15 (currently $136,495) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service (currently $165,500) by age 40. To get rid of me, and to retaliate against me for complaining about political affiliation discrimination and reverse discrimination, my Democrat IRS superiors put me under an ethics cloud. They hinted/implied/argued/shouted that my travel vouchers were fraudulent. SEE: https://www.gao.gov/products/463866 Of course, that ended whatever IRS career that I might have had. — DISGUSTING, TRAGIC: In Virginia Suburbs, Republicans Sound a Lot Like Democrats The off-year state legislative elections next Tuesday will test whether Republicans can appeal to anti-Trump voters by running on issues that Democrats usually espouse. – Reid J. (FROM THE ARTICLE: As Glenn Davis seeks a fourth term in Virginia’s House of Delegates, he is going door to door with campaign literature touting his role in expanding Medicaid, his efforts to address gun violence and his support for L.G.B.T.Q. anti-discrimination legislation. There’s a photo of him with the state’s Democratic governor, Ralph Northam. Yet Mr. Davis is a Republican. He voted with his party to adjourn a special legislative session on gun control that Mr. Northam called this summer — 90 minutes after it began. When he campaigned for lieutenant governor in 2017, he said he was “running to do exactly what Donald Trump did in Washington.” Now, he is among a coterie of Republicans who are campaigning on issues long identified with Democrats ahead of Tuesday’s elections for the Virginia legislature, shifting away from a Republican base that in the age of Trump can no longer win suburban elections on its own. “We have a little bit of a messaging issue, we do,” Mr. Davis said in an interview this week.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: All of them originate with a company called Locality Labs L.L.C., which created similar networks of questionable local websites in Illinois and Maryland, and state and local business and legal sites around the country. There’s little information about these sites. They typically lack mastheads, local addresses and clear disclosure of their ownership or revenue sources. Voters could easily become confused about the origins of information from these seemingly innocuous local-sounding outlets. In 2016, for example, websites in the Illinois network interviewed Republican candidates favored by a conservative state political committee, which then paid to mail print newspaper versions of the sites to voters without identifying them as political advertising.)

— New marijuana store licenses: Residents of 681 Illinois census tracts can get a leg up on applications. Are you eligible? Here’s which areas qualify, and why. – Ally Marotti (DIERSEN: Pot pushers want all of Illinois to be designated a “Disproportionately Impacted Area (DIA).” I fear that the pot pushers in Springfield will vote to force the sale of pot in DIAs even if the municipality or county had voted to ban the sale there. Where pot is sold, it brings down everything and everyone around it. How close is a DIA to where you live or work? Illinois Democrats want pot shops to open up in DIAs to revitalize those areas. Wheaton is the DuPage County Seat. The Democrats who run the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity (IDCEO) have outrageously designated western Wheaton (Census Tract 8426.04) as being a DIA, that is, an area that has high rates of arrest, conviction, and incarceration related to cannabis as well as poverty and unemployment. Needless-to-say, that must be a mistake. SEE: on https://censusreporter.org/profiles/14000US17043842604-census-tract-842604-dupage-il/ and https://www.chicagocityscape.com/maps/index.php?place=censustract-17043842604 While Wheaton has banned the sale of pot, the Democrats who run Illinois may very well vote to allow pot shops in DIAs thereby overriding Wheaton’s ban. I ask the following and everyone else who has an interest in Wheaton to ask the IDCEO to immediately rescind its western Wheaton DIA designation: Wheaton Mayor and City Council members, Wheaton Chamber of Commerce, Milton Township officers and trustees, DuPage County Board Chairman and County Board members, and federal and Illinois officials who represent or seek to represent any part of Wheaton.)
https://www.chicagotribune.com/marijuana/illinois/ct-biz-cb-recreational-marijuana-map-explained-20191028-uaeezndp6bep5o2xi6vzgyj2t4-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Applications for licenses to operate 75 marijuana stores are now available, offering the first path into the industry for those who don’t already operate a cannabis business in Illinois. A map the state released identifying areas hit hardest by the war on drugs could play a vital role for some applicants. More than 2 million people live in the hard-hit areas identified on the map. A qualified resident of those areas who applies to grow and sell recreational marijuana will get an additional 50 points on the application, which has a maximum score of 250 points. . .To create the map, officials broke the state down by U.S. Census tracts. To qualify, an area had to have an average annual rate of at least 30 marijuana-related arrests per 10,000 residents or at least one marijuana-related parole per 10,000 residents. Roughly 10 years of arrest and parole data was analyzed, said Michael Negron, assistant director of the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. The data reflects the addresses of people with marijuana arrests or paroles, not where the incidents occurred. Additionally, an area either must have a poverty rate above 20%, more than 20% of households in the area must receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, also known as food stamps, or the area’s average unemployment rate over the past two years must have been at least 20% higher than the national average. “The data is intended to be objective while still keeping in mind where we think the impact of the war on drugs is,” Negron said. “That means the data really sets the map.” Here’s a look at the poverty and SNAP participation rates of some census tracts identified on the map: . . . Wheaton — Poverty rate of 9%, SNAP participation 8.2%, average annual marijuana-related arrest rate of 9.1 per 10,000 residents. This tract qualified as underserved based on its unemployment rate of 5.7%, which was more than 20% higher than the national average in 2017 and 2018. It is west of downtown Wheaton and includes a western chunk of Milton Township.)

Additionally, employers will qualify if the majority of their workforce meets those criteria. Some social equity applicants can also qualify for waivers from the state to cover half of their application fees. My Democrat GAO superiors forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, gave me unfair performance expectations and appraisals, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, did not promote me beyond GS-13, got rid of my mentor in 1987, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take a $19,568 (21%) pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980. My Democrat IRS superiors did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, got rid of my mentor in 1975, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974. Oldsmobile withdrew a job offer that I had accepted in 1971 saying that it had just agreed to stop hiring Whites to settle an EEOC complaint. In 1989, I was extremely qualified to work for GAO on audits of IRS. I had worked for GAO on audits of IRS for the prior 3 years at the GS-13 Step 1-3 levels, currently $98,198-$104,744. I had worked for IRS for almost 9 years, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $82,579-$93,592. In 1989, to get rid of me, beyond wastefully, my Democrat GAO superiors threw me off audits of IRS, made it clear to me that they would never again assign me to audits of IRS, and assigned me to audits of federal financial institution regulators. To retain myself, I took evening and weekend courses at IIT and earned a master’s degree in financial markets and trading in 1997. (FROM THE ARTICLE: Having some minimum requirements combined with previous hiring data is a great place to start. However, employers should go beyond that, and focus on hiring the right culture fit. . .cultural fit is essential. An organizational culture is a system of shared assumptions, values, and beliefs that govern how people behave in a company. These shared values have a strong influence on the people in the organization, and dictate how they act and perform. Unfortunately, many hires struggle due to culture misfit, where they do not fit in with the team, they are not aligned with the values and goals pre-established, or their personality and workstyle is not compatible with what the company offers. A great way for employers to start seriously considering culture fit when hiring is to, firstly, define their organization’s culture, and make sure that it is visible and communicated regularly. Some employers do this by developing a strong online employer brand that can be viewed by potential job applicants. By announcing their organizational culture to potential applicants, it is more likely that employers will receive candidates who truly share their core values and principles and are able to smoothly assimilate.)

Because if you do, I believe you will be impeached,” Kelly recalled in an interview at the Sea Island Summit, a political conference hosted by the Examiner. Kelly said he does not believe the president would be in his current predicament if he had stayed as chief of staff. White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham said in a statement of her own Saturday: “I worked with John Kelly, and he was totally unequipped to handle the genius of our great President.” Trump pushed back on Kelly’s comments in a statement: “John Kelly never said that, he never said anything like that. If he would have said that, I would have thrown him out of the office. He just wants to come back into the action like everybody else does.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: In August 2019, the Economic Policy Institute reported that, in 2018, the average pay of CEOs at America’s 350 top firms hit $17.2 million―an increase, when adjusted for inflation, of 1,007.5 percent since 1978. By contrast, the typical worker’s wage, adjusted for inflation, grew by only 11.9 percent over this 40-year period. In 1965, the ratio of CEO-to-worker’s pay stood at 20-to-1; by 2018 (when CEOs received another hefty pay raise and workers received a 0.2 percent pay cut), it had reached 278-to-1. An AFL-CIO study, released in June 2019, had similar findings. Examining compensation at Standard & Poors 500 companies, the labor federation reported that average CEO pay in 2018 had increased by $5.2 million over the preceding 10 years. This resulted in an average CEO-to-worker pay ratio of 287-to-1. These figures, of course, are only averages, and at numerous major corporations, the economic gap between boss and worker is much greater. According to the AFL-CIO, the CEO-to-worker pay ratio at Walmart (America’s largest private employer) is 1,076 to 1, at Walt Disney Company 1,424-to-1, at McDonald’s 2,124-to-1, and at Gap 3,566-to-1. At 49 S&P 500 firms, noted an Institute for Policy Studies report, half the work force―that is, 3.7 million employees―received wages below the official U.S. poverty line for a family of four.)

DAILY HERALD
— As Trump comes to town, which suburban Republicans will join the bandwagon? – Marni Pyke
https://www.dailyherald.com/news/20191026/as-trump-comes-to-town-which-suburban-republicans-will-join-the-bandwagon
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Some normally easy-to-reach Republican state representatives and senators didn’t return calls asking if they endorse Trump’s reelection or were buying tickets for the fundraising luncheon Monday starting at $2,800 a person. But Sen. Dan McConchie, a conservative Hawthorn Woods Republican, said he would be in Springfield during Trump’s Chicago visit. When asked if he supported Trump’s reelection, McConchie said, “No comment.” Rep. Allen Skillicorn of East Dundee, however, was all in. “Most politicians make promises with no intention to actually fulfill them,” Skillicorn said. “President Donald Trump is different. He has delivered on most of his promises. I’m confident his popularity has gone up in the suburbs versus 2016.” State Sen. Jim Oberweis of Sugar Grove said he supports Trump’s reelection but is not attending Monday’s events. . .”If they’re looking at a general election in a swing district, people need to be really careful how they embrace (Trump),” former Illinois Republican Senate Leader Christine Radogno said. Illinois Republican Party Chairman Tim Schneider of Bartlett, who will be attending on Monday, was optimistic local Republicans “will support the president at almost a 95 percent rate.” Conservative state Rep. David McSweeney of Barrington Hills intends to back the president over any possible Democratic nominee, but he won’t be at Monday’s Trump events. “I agree with President Trump on cutting taxes and deregulation. I don’t agree with him on everything. For example, I have some disagreements with him on trade and foreign policy,” McSweeney said, clarifying he opposes the president’s abrupt decision to pull troops from the Kurdish occupied area of Syria. Typically when presidents visit, they’re surrounded by top party officials such as governors, senators and congressional representatives. That won’t happen this week with Illinois’ Democratic governor, U.S. senators and suburban House members, although former state Rep. Jeanne Ives of Wheaton hopes to change some of that party balance. Republican Ives, of Wheaton, who is running in the 6th Congressional District against first-term U.S. Rep. Sean Casten, supports Trump’s reelection but has no plans to go to his events on Monday. Asked about grading his job so far, “it depends on the policy or issue,” said Ives, who ran for governor in 2018. Trump might not be the only choice for Illinois voters in the March primary. Former U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh of Mundelein is running for the Republican nomination, although with just $115,000 in his coffers it’s a long shot, said Republican strategist Aaron Del Mar. The Palatine Township Republican committeeman, a friend of Walsh’s, is not only solidly in the Trump camp, but he’s selling tickets for the fundraiser. “I’m not a 100 percent for everything the president says,” Del Mar said.)

FORBES
— The Bitter Truth About Why People Fail To Succeed In Their Jobs – Terina Allen (DIERSEN: My critics/opponents falsely deny that while I worked for the federal government for almost 30 years 1966-1969 and 1971-1997, that virtually all my superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates were Democrat, minority, female, and/or veteran. My critics/opponents falsely deny that while I worked for GAO 1980-1997, the agency was almost always under promotion freezes, that it shrank from about 6,000 employees to about 3,000 employees, and that it suffered tremendous budget cuts during the mid-1990s. My critics/opponents falsely argue that my superiors in the federal government were never under pressure from Democrat politicians a) to hire, retain, and promote young Democrat minorities and young Democrat females or b) to make way for them by getting rid of their employees who were Republican, White, male, and/or non-veteran and who they had not promoted to GS-13 (currently $98,198) by age 25, GS-14 (currently $116,040) by age 30, GS-15 (currently $136,495) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service (currently $165,500) by age 40. My critics/opponents falsely dent that extremely few federal employees make the aforesaid promotion deadlines. My critics/opponents falsely argue that my Democrat superiors in the federal government did not take adverse actions against me a) because I complained about political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation or b) because I became an active member in a class action lawsuit in 1988 that charged them with reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation.)

https://www.mediapost.com/publications/article/342220/publishers-decry-facebooks-power-as-social-networ.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Benioff, who also is CEO of software firm Salesforce, likened Facebook to cigarettes for having addictive powers and harmful effects on kids. “Facebook is addictive, it’s not good for you, they’re after your kids, they’re running political ads that aren’t true … and they’re also acquiring other companies and co-mingling data those companies have on their users into theirs for more power,” he said in an interview with CNN. Benioff isn’t the only media executive who has criticized Facebook. Rupert Murdoch, the News Corp. CEO whose political affiliations are the opposite of Benioff’s, also wants to rein in Facebook. Murdoch is dependent on the social network’s power to drive web traffic. His Fox News website generated more Facebook “engagements” than any other publisher during the third quarter, according to analytics firm NewsWhip. Those engagements keep people glued to Facebook, which is problematic for publishers that want to monetize their own audiences. Facebook reportedly is addressing this issue by offering cash payments to publishers whose articles appear in its news section, but it remains to be seen how lucrative that source of revenue will be.)

https://pjmedia.com/jchristianadams/meet-kyle-frese-trump-hater-federal-employee-arrested-for-leaking-national-security-secrets/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Frese went to college and graduate school in Canada. His posts routinely cover national security and foreign affairs issues. They are also vehemently hostile to Donald Trump and his foreign policy. . .Frese traveled quite a bit. Every month or two, he could be found hiking Kilimanjaro or sipping beer in an Eastern European capital, visiting London or the low countries, Morocco, Berlin, Australia, all in the space of a year or two. It was quite a travel experience for a lowly federal employee. Perhaps it was work-related, all those different destinations. Excessive foreign travel can be a marker for a national security risk. Frese would occasionally quibble with “irresponsible” stories about national security matters. He had the audacity to complain about “unnamed armaments experts providing commentary.” He also had a beef with Senator Marco Rubio citing Psalms. Frese is most likely being held, for now, in the Alexandria City Jail in Virginia. If he is convicted, he can expect to be living in a federal prison. Nobody should consider his hostility toward President Trump an outlier in the federal civil service. Whether it is a whistleblower wound up about Ukraine or the FBI lovebirds, the civil service still cannot cope with the 2016 election results.)

NEWS BUSTERS

Facebook to Launch Human-Curated News – Alexander Hall (DIERSEN: As your GOPUSA Illinois Editor since 2000, I have been a conservative “human-curator” of Illinois political and government news since 2000. Of course, anti-conservatives continue to focus on stopping me from doing that. They especially focus on stopping Republicans in Wheaton, Glen Ellyn, Milton Township, DuPage County, and Illinois from reading GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails. If you were me, what would you do increase readership of GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails?)
https://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/techwatch/alexander-hall/2019/10/25/not-again-facebook-launch-human-curated-news
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Facebook is launching a “News” tab today, which will provide stories from hundreds of news organizations. This is the second time the social media site tried to decide what is news for its users. The first time exploded under allegations of bias against the right. “Facebook’s service will include some human curation by a small editorial team of journalists, who will select top stories” according to The Washington Post. Much like asking “who fact-checks the fact-checkers,” the question of “who curates the curators” will likely be on conservatives’ minds. After all, based on Facebook’s troubled history with truth, conservatives would be right to be concerned about their commitment to free expression. Facebook previously purged its disgraced Trending topics section after not only being accused of bias, but having its very own workers blow the whistle on its agenda-setting. “[A]ccording to a former journalist who worked on the project,” Gizmodo summarized, “… workers prevented stories about the right-wing CPAC gathering, Mitt Romney, Rand Paul, and other conservative topics from appearing in the highly-influential section, even though they were organically trending among the site’s users.” Anne Kornblut, The Post’s former deputy national editor, “is overseeing the team of journalists who will chose [sic] top stories for the ‘News’ tab, according to people familiar with planning for the service,” reported The Post. The participating news organizations whose content will be curated includes “about 200 news organizations, including The Washington Post, The New York Times, News Corp, BuzzFeed News, Business Insider, Bloomberg, Fox News, NBCUniversal, USA Today and The Los Angeles Times. Some of those outlets will be paid for their content, including The Post” The Post noted in an article it published today. If that wasn’t damning enough, many of Facebook’s “news curators” told Gizmodo that they were instructed to “inject” specific stories into the Trending news section. The former curators also claimed that Facebook, in the spirit of self-preservation, discouraged them from including news about Facebook itself. Facebook executives told Axios a few months ago that they would be “hiring seasoned journalists to help curate a forthcoming ‘News Tab’ that they hope will change how millions get news.” Facebook’s mission, as Axios described, is “to restore the sanity and credibility that’s lost in the chaos of our main feeds.” Facebook’s head of news partnerships Campbell Brown, a former news anchor at NBC and CNN, said that algorithms will also be involved. “Our goal with the News tab is to provide a personalized, highly relevant experience … ,” said Brown. “The majority of stories people will see will appear in the tab via algorithmic selection.” For what it’s worth, Zuckerberg has tried to reassure conservatives they will at least attempt to avoid bias. “‘We are monitoring for any kind of bias, both amongst our team and in the product itself,’ Zuckerberg said,” according to Axios’ reporting. “‘Making sure that this ends up being a platform for all different perspectives is obviously going to be very important for this succeeding over the long term.’” Conservatives wary of “diversity” politics may have their hackles raised by the other comments made by Zuckerberg in the same article, however. Facebook claimed to have hired journalists with “real experience” who are a “diverse group who have different backgrounds and views and different nationalities.” News Corp founder Rupert Murdoch explained the rationale in a Jan. 2018 press release, saying, “If Facebook wants to recognize ‘trusted’ publishers then it should pay those publishers a carriage fee similar to the model adopted by cable companies.” He added further that these payments “would have a minor impact on Facebook’s profits but a major impact on the prospects for publishers and journalists.” The news industry seems to approve, and this is yet another step toward their “long-sought goal of having technology companies pay for the content they deliver to users.” This service will also pitFacebook against other “news aggregation services offered by Silicon Valley rivals Google and Apple.” “Facebook will pay publishers for work they already make and then share to the platform, which means it is pure profit,” Vox/Recode summarized about the “News” tab. CNN reporter Oliver Darcy tweeted that Zuckerberg defended “having far-right website Breitbart in its news tab” quoting the Facebook CEO as saying “I think you want to have content that represents different perspectives.” When asked about Breitbart being among the other websites in the news tab Darcy observed how Zuckerberg expressed that all outlets will have to comply with Facebook’s standards.)

NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
— Save — and expand — newspaper subscriptions: How federal employees should respond to Donald Trump’s war on the Washington Post and New York Times – DAVID J. VERARDO (DIERSEN: Those who are Christian, conservative, and/or Republican should keep up to date with what those who are anti-Christian, anti-conservative, and/or anti-Republican are saying. That is why I pay many thousands of dollars each year for home delivery and website access for anti-Christian, anti-conservative, and/or anti- Republican publications. It is called opposition research.)
https://www.nydailynews.com/opinion/ny-oped-subscriptions-20191026-7jbcgvcxcze7bhmrgbsn27rkde-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: President Trump’s order to all federal agencies to cancel their subscriptions to the Washington Post and New York Times is peevish, wrongheaded, and dangerous. These two papers, as well as numerous others, provide a lifeline to the federal workforce and the American public regarding information and knowledge about our country and the wider world. A civilization without a free and accessible press is not civilized at all. Instead of canceling subscriptions, federal agencies would be better served by holding their Post and Times subscriptions and expanding their subscriptions to other media. Federal employees themselves should subscribe to the Post and Times and the media of their choice to ensure the free flow of information. I subscribe to both publications, and here is why. Many times my day begins with someone asking me “Did you see the story in today’s Washington Post…” or “Did you see the New York Times coverage of …” As a scientist, I rely on news coverage of science, technology, engineering and math in the Post and Times to alert me to new findings and innovations outside my expertise that I can further investigate in detail through the scientific literature. As a public servant, I need the Post and Times to help fill me in on innovations in the federal workforce that come directly from practitioners. As a private citizen, I rely on the Post and Times for differing perspectives on issues affecting my daily life. I need to understand trends in medicine, law, finance, politics and the environment so that I can make informed choices. I want journalists to investigate and ask hard questions, get to the bottom of things, challenge the prevailing wisdom, and help me discover my biases. I depend on them to do their job while I am busy doing mine. Since our country’s founding, politicians have had a love-hate relationship with the press. They love coverage that supports their views and hate coverage that challenges their views, actions or inaction. As a voter, I need coverage from all angles. That approach scares some politicians into seeking to control and muzzle the press. History shows that the American public is best served by a free and open press whose acceptance and credibility by the public is determined by the free market, not political fiat. The press is accountable to its readers because the readers make the final judgment on who or what is believable. The press is not the enemy of the people just because you don’t agree with them. The enemy of the people are demagogues who manipulate the truth for personal gain. Using power granted to you temporarily by the American people, to cancel government-wide subscriptions to publications that do not constantly heap praise on you, is the “perfect” example of demagoguery, Mr. President. We need you to “be best.”)

WASHINGTON POST
— Democrat drafting bill to stop Facebook from profiting off politicians’ ads containing falsehoods – Cat Zakrzewski (DIERSEN: According to my critics/opponents, all news and commentary is false except for the news and commentary that they put out or bless. I would focus on those who have lots of religious, government, political, and/or financial clout in Wheaton, Glen Ellyn, Milton Township, DuPage County, and Illinois and who claim to be religious, conservative, and/or Republican. I would focus on those who focus on discouraging Republican Precinct Committeemen/Captains in Milton Township, DuPage County, and Illinois from reading the emails.)
