http://wglt.org/post/rauner-seeks-unite-gop-after-squeaking-out-primary-win#stream/0
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Gov. Bruce Rauner is seeking “common ground” with Republicans on divisive issues after barely surviving an insurgent challenge in Tuesday’s election. Rauner said his 19,000-vote victory over state Rep. Jeanne Ives in the GOP primary has confirmed for him the need to “bridge the divides.” He told reporters Thursday after a campaign kickoff at a Springfield sign-making company that focusing on “what unites us” is key to victory. That includes lowering property and income taxes and imposing political term limits. “We are working right now, every day to find bridges on issues that divide us. My primary focus is on what unites us. That’s the key to changing the state. That’s the key to victory,” he said. He said Democratic nominee J.B. Pritzker is in cahoots with Democratic House Speaker Michael Madigan. Rauner says nemesis Madigan is part of a “Mafia protection racket” by getting rich off of legal work reducing property tax assessments. Madigan has said he follows the law and strict ethical standards.)

Will Rauner agree that political parties exist to help elect candidates who can and will defend and advance their platform?)
http://nprillinois.org/post/rauner-gop-voters-i-have-heard-you#stream/0
(FROM THE ARTICLE: At a campaign stop in Springfield, reporters asked what exactly Rauner heard — but his answer was vague. “Specifically there were some issues that divide us,” he answered. He explained he had known for a while that he “needs to find common ground” to bridge the divides, and said he’d like to focus on key issues that unite them — like enacting term limits and lowering property and income taxes. His opponent, Jeanne Ives, was more specific on those issues during her campaign. She said Rauner was out of touch with Republicans on abortion and a so-called sanctuary law. She also said Rauner placed too much blame on House Speaker Michael Madigan for his own failures as governor. Unlike the Democratic candidates who lost to J.B. Pritzker but pledged to support him, Ives has yet to call on her base to rally behind Rauner — or even to call Rauner at all. Rauner said his campaign team tried to set-up a call with Ives on Wednesday without success. “We will ultimately bring people together,” he said referring to Ives’ GOP base and his.)

https://www.nbcchicago.com/blogs/ward-room/rauner-ives-illinois-primary-election-477560013.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The race was ugly from the start and didn’t end much better, as the two candidates did not speak on election night nor the following day. A spokeswoman for Ives’ campaign confirmed Wednesday afternoon that she and Rauner had still not been in contact – and had no plans to speak in the future. “Why would she talk to him after the disrespect he showed last night announcing victory before all of the counties were in – without a call to the campaign, after he poured millions of dollars into an attack campaign that flat-out lied about her, and after he dispatched his slimy operatives to the media last night to disparage Ives, her campaign and all of her conservative supporters?” Ives’ spokeswoman Kathleen Murphy said in a statement. “She has no reason to believe or trust anything he says,” Murphy continued. Rauner emerged to deliver an election night victory speech on Tuesday before the race had been officially called in his favor. “I am honored and humbled by this victory,” Rauner said Tuesday night, claiming victory with a slim lead and even as voting machine problems delayed results from DuPage County – Ives’ home territory that she ultimately carried by four points. “You have given me the chance to win the battle against the corruption that plagues Illinois. Thank you,” Rauner continued, adding, “This primary election was hard fought, yes. I want to congratulate my opponent on her principled stand.” “For those of you around the state of Illinois who wanted to send me a message, let me be clear: I have heard you,” he said. Rauner initially dismissed Ives as a “fringe candidate” before pivoting to take her more seriously after she garnered the support of various conservative organizations, and even some of his former backers that sought to take down the first-term governor from the right.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: So, where do Jeanne Ives supporters go in the November election Bill Cameron? On election eve, Jeanne Ives told me she’d support Bruce Rauner if he wins the primary. Ives: “Because obviously elections are always about choices and sometimes you have bad choices and worse choices. Every single Democrat would be a disaster for the State of Illinois. Cameron: “So, even though you think Rauner is bad, the Democrats are worse?” Ives: “Absolutely! They certainly are.” But on the morning after, Ives said she has no plans to pick up the phone and concede to Rauner. She said, “I really don’t care to say anything to the governor at this point, quite frankly.” Sounds like Rauner needs to move further to the right.)

http://www.wlsam.com/2018/03/21/rauner-pledges-to-unite-republicans-after-defeating-ives-in-republican-primary/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois Republican Governor Bruce Rauner is pledging to unite the fractured Republican party after winning his bitter primary battle with conservative State Representative Jeanne Ives. Rauner beat Ives by less than 20,000 votes, 51 to 48 percent, in a race that she started because of anger over Rauner’s decision to sign a law allowing for taxpayer funded abortions. Wednesday morning, Rauner told “The Big John and Ramblin’ Ray Show” on WLS that he will start a listening tour to get input from Illinois voters. “On the issues that have divided us, I want to find ways to bridge the divide. To come together, to come up with solutions that bridge the divide. We can do this, and we’ll work together in good faith.” Rauner will face Democrat J.B. Pritzker in November, after Pritzker defeated five challengers in the Democratic primary. Pritzker is expected to try and tie Rauner to the policies of Republican President Donald Trump, but Rauner, who has gone to great pains to distance himself from the President, told WLS that strategy won’t work. “People know that I’m my own person”, said Rauner. “I work with the Trump administration to help the people of Illinois just like I work with the Obama administration to help the people of Illinois. I am my own person. I make my own decisions. And all I care about is workin’ for the families of our state.” Pritzker was out early Wednesday morning thanking voters at the 95th Street Red Line stop on the South Side. He told reporters Rauner has had his chance to govern the state, and has failed. “Illinois has an important job in the next eight months and that’s to decide which direction it wants to go”, said Pritzker. “Down the road of the failed policies of Bruce Rauner, or on the road toward recovery and job creation and lowering the cost of health care, and making sure that every child gets a quality education. That’s what this campaign is gonna be all about and we’re gonna make sure people know it.” However Rauner told WLS that Pritzker has connections to what he says is corruption in the state Democratic party. “Pritzker is part of the machine. He’s part of the corruption in Illinois, he’s a tax dodger, a tax cheat, he tried to buy the Senate seat from Blagojevich, the truth is comin’ out on Pritzker and when the truth is known for the people of Illinois, they’ll choose Rauner and Sanguinetti, and they’ll choose reform so we can have a better future.”)

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/columnists/kass/ct-met-kass-bleak-rauner-november-20180321-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: It was Rauner who invited a primary challenge by playing social justice warrior of the left, signing a bill that put taxpayers on the hook for paying for abortions, and also signing sanctuary state legislation. Ives took the challenge, and that she came so close so quickly and with little statewide name recognition and nothing like his bankroll is a testament not only to her own message but of Rauner’s low standing among the grass-roots GOP. Democrats know this, and the bosses salivate in anticipation of November. So if Rauner has charted out a way forward to mend the intra-party rifts in the hopes of stopping Pritzker, it hasn’t been articulated. And burning Boss Madigan in rhetorical effigy day after day just won’t cut it. Ives understands the problems are about more than allegiance. “In the state of Illinois, we do not have Republican or Democrat problems,” Ives said in her concession speech. “No, we have a math problem. … “You can’t just spend yourself into oblivion, piling up millions of dollars in debt, while hundreds of thousands of people flee the state of Illinois, and think that things are going to get better the next day,” Ives said. “It’s got to stop.” But it won’t stop, not anytime soon, not with a divided Illinois Republican Party, and not with Pritzker funding the Democrats who are moving farther and farther to the left.)

http://www.dailyherald.com/news/20180321/cronin-changes-coming-after-dupage-election-commissions-inept-performance–
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Cronin said he wants commission officials to attend next week’s county board meeting to answer questions about what happened. “We will make an effort to discover all the facts,” Cronin said, but someone must be held responsible. “I promise you, there’s going to be changes,” he said. “I am done with this.” Cronin said he also will continue pushing for a state law change to merge the election commission with the county clerk’s office. He has supported that concept for years, but the legislature has been reluctant to give the county permission to do it. “I look forward to the day the election commission is under the auspices of the clerk’s office,” Cronin said. “There will be accountability, better responsiveness and better professionalism — I am certain of that.” On Wednesday, election commission officials said the problem with the optical scan voting machines was caused by so-called “ender cards”– similar to paper ballots — that are needed to close the machines and tabulate results. It turns out the ender cards the commission purchased from Liberty Systems couldn’t be run through the machines. “The paper stock used by the vendor for this election was not to specification and didn’t fit through the scanner,” said Joseph Sobecki, the commission’s executive director. “That resulted in none of the locations being able to close the optical scan.” The problem didn’t affect touch-screen voting machines, but most DuPage voters use optical scan paper ballots. Once the problem was discovered, Sobecki said officials decided to bring the optical scan voting machines from every polling place to Wheaton so they could go through the closing procedure. Cronin blasted that decision. “If the cards fail, you should have a system in place to respond to that,” he said. “This notion that you are going to physically transport every one of these machines from all of the polling places and have them wait in line out in the driveways of the county complex … is just stunning to me in its level of incompetence.” Sobecki said the first machines arrived around 8:45 p.m. Meanwhile, Cronin said he was getting calls from numerous campaigns wondering where their votes were. . .The commission said “rigorous” testing was done before the election, but Zay said he doesn’t believe it. “If they tested it, it would have worked,” he said. “The problem is they have their own separate board,” Zay said, referring to the three-person panel that oversees the commission. “Maybe that board needs to go.” The three members of the bipartisan DuPage Board of Election Commissioners are appointed by Cronin. Republicans hold two of the three seats. Cronin acknowledged that election commissioners should bear responsibility. “I think there is a enough blame to go around over there,” he said. “The whole operation needs to be re-examined from top to bottom as we dissolve it.”)

He says the future of the party is at stake if Republicans don’t come together and beat Pritzker in the fall. He’s got about eight months to work on that. According to the numbers, Pritzker’s got a huge advantage, but this is just day one. The GOP chair says the division is common during primary season, but they always bounce back. Wednesday afternoon, Ives’ supporter, conservative Representative Peter Breen jumped ship after months of harsh criticism for the governor. He announced he’s standing behind Rauner once again to fight “the Madigan machine.” He released a statement: “The governor is our party nominee and I support him 100 percent.”)

March 21 Morning Edition

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— Who won the contested races that were on the Republican ballot in your precinct? Rauner/Sanguinetti, Harold, Grant, Mendrick, Eckhoff, and Zaruba won the races that were on the Republican ballot in my precinct.

In DuPage County, Rauner/Sanguinetti got 33,157 (48%) votes and Ives/Morthland got 35,965 (52%) votes; Harold got 35,046 (55%) votes and Grasso got 28,950 (45%) votes; Mendrick got 39,198 (60%) votes and Bibbiano got 25,748 (40%) votes; and the DuPage County Election Commission consolidation question got 76,887 (56%) Yes votes and 59,256 (44%) no votes.

To defeat the Democrats on November 6, 2018, a) I urge all the candidates who won to seek the support of those candidates who lost and b) I urge all those candidates who lost to offer their support for the candidates who won. The winning and losing candidates should stress what they agree on. I urge the Illinois Republican Party and all the Republican county, township, and ward party organizations to schedule unity events ASAP. If I was still the TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois chairman, the organization would be hosting a unity event.

In my DuPage County Milton Township Precinct 9 in Wheaton, 203 (40%) of its 504 registered voters voted. About half of my precinct was in Ives’ precinct before the 2015 gerrymandering. In the contested Republican races, 64 (61%) voted for Ives and 41 (39%) voted for Rauner; 60 (66%) voted for Harold and 31 (34%) voted for Grasso; 74 (77%) voted for Grant, 16 (17%) voted for Minor and 6 (6%) voted for Byrne; 55 (58%) voted for Mendrick and 40 (42%) voted for Bibbiano; 49 (30%) voted for Tatro, 40 (25%) voted for Eckhoff, 32 (20%) voted for Zaruba, 24 (15%) voted for Chinchilla, 14 (9%) voted for McGowen, and 4 (2%) voted for Almiron. 77 voted for me.

Sooner or later, if not already, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes will hint/imply/argue/shout at the aforesaid candidates that they got far fewer votes in my precinct, in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in Milton Township, in DuPage County, and in Illinois BECAUSE OF ME AND BECAUSE OF MY GOPUSA ILLINOIS EMAILS. – Dave Diersen

http://www.mysuburbanlife.com/2018/03/20/state-rep-jeanne-ives-concedes-to-rauner-in-republican-gubernatorial-primary/a1ehb6j/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Even though state Rep. Jeanne Ives, R-Wheaton, fell short in her bid to topple Gov. Bruce Rauner in the Republican primary, she told her supporters they had plenty of reasons to be proud. “It is still one of the most historic nights ever in the state of Illinois,” Ives said, in addressing her supporters gathered March 20 at Abbington Distinctive Banquets in Glen Ellyn. “You know and I know that Bruce Rauner had to be challenged in this election… A popular revolt against the political ruling class fell just a bit short.” “What you should know was that this campaign was started on faith,” Ives said. “We had no money. We had no team. We had a lot of grassroots supporters who knew that we needed to stand up once and for all against people that did not adhere to our policies and our party’s platform. And that’s what we did. We stood up tonight. We stood up every day for the last four and a half months, and we finished this campaign strong. We proved that the grassroots cannot be taken advantage of.” Ives sparked controversy with a campaign ad against Rauner addressing issues such as gender identity, abortion and immigration. However, she defended the ad. “What the commercial that is generating the expected hysteria from the expected quarters attempted to do – admittedly, provocatively – was to properly and truthfully characterize the extreme issue positions Rauner took and their implications,” Ives previously said in a speech at a City Club of Chicago luncheon. “The commercial does not attack people. It tackles issues by truthfully illustrating the constituencies Rauner has chosen to serve to the exclusion of others.”)

http://www.chicagobusiness.com/realestate/20180314/CRED0701/180319958/chicago-suburbs-seeing-white-flight
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In 24 census tracts mostly clustered in the southern end of Cook County, around places like Lynwood, Matteson and Homewood, the share of the white population declined at least one-quarter during that decade. The raw number of the decline had to be at least 100 people to be counted in Kye’s study. While data for other suburban Chicago counties are not reported in Kye’s paper, he dug into the data at Crain’s request and found seven census tracts in northeastern Will County, around Bolingbrook and Romeoville, and three scattered tracts in DuPage County that met his study’s criteria. There were none in Lake, Kane or McHenry counties, Kye said.)

My outstanding parents provided me with room and board in their home in Crete a) 1966-1968 while I was a student at UIC, b) weekends during my first semester at NIU in 1969, and c) the summer of 1969. The money to pay for tuition, books, a new 1968 Oldsmobile 442 in 1967, a new 1969 Dodge Charger SE in 1968, and room and board at NIU 1969-1970 (three semesters at University Plaza Dormitory (https://www.uplaza.com/) and then a summer session at Lincolnshire West Apartments (http://www.lincolnshirewest-apts.com/ ) came from my part-time Park Forest Post Office job 1966-1969 that paid $15.85-$16.91 an hour in today’s dollars and my part-time jobs working on a Chrysler automobile assembly line in Belvidere (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belvidere_Assembly_Plant) and as a security guard at the University Plaza Dormitory in 1970. The aforesaid enabled me to graduate debt-free from NIU in August of 1970 owning a 1969 Dodge Charger SE.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: There was a time when job seekers weighed benefits like medical coverage, retirement accounts and in-office kegerators before accepting an offer. Today, with tens of millions of Americans weighed down by student loan debt, applicants also are judging would-be employers by whether they’ll chip in on those college bill payments. Chicago’s Peanut Butter is there to help companies offer that perk. In 2014, while working as senior director of business development at Sears Holdings, David Aronson, 36, read something that startled him: Most people in their 20s and 30s weren’t making maximum contributions to their 401(k) accounts because their student loan payments – a 2015 college graduate left school owing $34,000 on average – sucked away too much of their disposable income.)

WORLD NET DAILY
— FACEBOOK’S WAR ON ‘CONSERVATIVE’ SITES Joseph Farah on how ‘politically motivated gatekeeper’ manipulates users
http://www.wnd.com/2018/03/facebooks-war-on-conservative-sites/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: It is true that what I call “independent media” are facing monumental obstacles intentionally placed in their way by companies like Facebook. But Facebook is hardly alone in this regard. Another big player in the war on independent media is Google. This one has had a more dramatically negative impact on WND. You might not know it, but back in the day when Google gave preference to the most viewed breaking news stories on the internet, WND fared very well. But Google changed its algorithms, too. Today, the Google News page, which regularly featured WND content years ago, is devoid of any. In fact, WND is not even viewed as a legitimate news content provider. Why? It might have something to do with the gatekeepers Google has partnered with to define news. One of them is the Southern Poverty Law Center, a far left-wing money machine that is not southern, doesn’t fight poverty but increases it, scarcely practices law and doesn’t respect it, and an outfit about which the word “center” should never be associated in any way. The SPLC considers me a racist and a hate-monger in its annual reports and regards WND, my creation, no more charitably. When I launched WND, then known as WorldNetDaily, more than 20 years ago, the idea was to use this new level playing field with a low barrier to entry to reinvigorate the American press by returning it to what it was intended to be – an important check on government power and overreach, waste, fraud, abuse and corruption in high places. It worked initially. WND was propelled by audiences to become one of the very top-ranked news sites in the world. That was before Google took over pre-eminence among search engines. Since then, Google has made it a mission to ensure any search traffic that goes our way is an accident. I’m not exaggerating. Google news alerts typically don’t even recognize WND stories until 24 hours after they break. The point here is simple. Is the world better off with more diversity of opinion, more reporting from different viewpoints? Facebook doesn’t think so. Google doesn’t think so. And this Digital Cartel has made part of its mission the stamping out of all meaningful ideological diversity in online media.)

FOX NEWS CHICAGO
— ‘Coerced’ student walkout in Chicago is ‘political indoctrination:’ GOP Chicago chair – Matt Finn
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2018/03/14/coerced-student-walkout-in-chicago-is-political-indoctrination-gop-chair.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Chicago Republican Party has filed a complaint with Chicago Public Schools and is considering suing over an anti-gun violence student walkout Wednesday morning it calls “political” and an “indoctrination.” Chicago Public Schools CEO Janice Jackson has publicly given her approval and support for the district-wide walkout, which a Chicago GOP Chairman says has turned into an administration-organized event not a “student walkout.” Chris Cleveland, chairman of the Chicago GOP, pointed to an email sent by an elementary school principal that gave parents of young students instructions on the walkout and the option of making posters. Students across the country were holding a walkout on Wednesday to protest gun violence and to call for gun control measures on the one-month anniversary of the Parkland school shooting that left 17 people dead. The GOP chairman said the school district seemed to be coercing students to take part in the demonstrations. “It’s appalling that 10 to 14 year old kids would be coerced, by their teachers, to participate in a political demonstration,” Cleveland wrote in a statement. “A 10-year-old kid isn’t going to have an informed opinion on these political matters, and shouldn’t be expected to have the fortitude to hold a different opinion from everyone else in his or her classroom. This is political indoctrination, pure and simple.” CPS Inspector General Nicholas Schuler told Fox News the district received the complaint and is evaluating it. The Chicago Public Schools and the CEO’s office have not returned calls from Fox News seeking comment. Last year, more than 650 people were murdered in Chicago. In 2016, nearly 800 were killed, many of whom were teens, some under the age of 12. A CPS spokesperson said they could not recall a district condoned walkout for the city’s own gun violence and homicide rate.)

http://www.news-gazette.com/news/local/2018-03-14/tom-kacich-madigan-treating-democratic-committeewoman-hopeful-foe.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Pamella Gronemeyer, who is running for the low-profile position of Democratic state central committeewoman in the 13th Congressional District, hasn’t promised to try to unseat longtime Democratic Party Chairman Michael Madigan. But one of Madigan’s campaign committees, Friends of Michael J. Madigan, has paid for robocalls by Sen. Dick Durbin and AFL-CIO President Mike Carrigan that endorse Gronemeyer’s opponent, Jayne Mazzotti of Taylorville. And Madigan spent thousands of dollars on mail pieces against two other state central committee members endorsed by Our Revolution, a group of Bernie Sanders supporters like Gronemeyer who want to reform the Democratic Party of Illinois. That might include toppling Madigan, who has headed the party since 1998. “I think it’s been a very tough fight with him and Rauner. Certainly, I’m opposed to Rauner,” said Gronemeyer, a pathologist who lives in Glen Carbon and owns SEMC Pathology in Highland. “But I think that maybe it might be time to contemplate a change. I think (Madigan) should want to embrace some of the people who are running on the slate with me. “We are good Democrats. We went to the convention. We supported things. We got out the vote. I think he should embrace us rather than run ads against us. Or come and talk to us even.” Our Revolution includes 13 candidates from around the state running for either state central committeeman or committeewoman. Even if all were elected next Tuesday, they probably couldn’t transform the 36-member state central committee. But Gronemeyer said she “would like to make the party more progressive. The idea is that it’s sort of staid. We had a lot of progressive activity during the Bernie campaign, and we’d just like to expand the progressive part of it. “The party doesn’t reach everybody. There are a lot of young people and other people who sort of feel left out. I think the Illinois Democratic Party could use some new blood, not that I’m new, but I think I’m a young 65.” Gronemeyer said she doesn’t know why the head of the Democratic Party is using robocalls against her or mailers against some of her colleagues. “I don’t know why Madigan would be afraid of us. We don’t want to throw everything away. Gosh darn it, I supported a tax increase because we have to do something with our budget,” she said of the state income tax increase last year. “They shouldn’t be afraid of us. They should want people to be involved, and that’s what our goal is. “Do I want to declare war on him? No, I want to see if we can work together. I want to see how we can work. I don’t think that declaring war is necessarily a good tactic. But I’m not saying I wouldn’t like to see someone else in there either. We need to see who is available and what they offer.” Madigan spokesman Steve Brown said the robocalls for Mazzotti are simply “in support of incumbent members of the committee who have been longtime Democratic activists.” He said that recorded calls from U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth also have been used on behalf of incumbent state central committee members. “I don’t think anyone is afraid of them,” Brown said. “But you run campaigns to win, and in the case of Sen. Durbin’s calls and the Carrigan calls and the Duckworth calls we made, it is to support party activists who are running to win. We’re not afraid of anybody.” Mazzotti declined to return messages seeking a comment.)

http://nprillinois.org/post/campaign-workers-illinois-push-protections#stream/0
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Accusations of harassment from a campaign worker against her supervisor and close aide to Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan, Kevin Quinn, led to Quinn’s firing last month. Madigan is still struggling with the ripple effects from Alaina Hampton’s claims, with some observers predicting this could be the downfall for the powerful politician. Hampton’s story has also brought attention to how political campaigns deal with sexual harassment. Organizers with a national movement to unionize campaign workers say with the high-pressure and temporary nature of campaign work, there’s often a push to ignore problems like harassment. “We think that (campaigns) are important and working really hard to elect the candidates is something that can change the future of our state,” said Emma LaBounty, an Illinois-based organizer with the Campaign Workers Guild. “But, it’s also something where a lot of times employers will use that as a reason why people should just put their head, work really hard and just not allow themselves to worry about anything else. . . until after election day.” Four Chicago House Democrats recently held a meeting with the Campaign Workers Guild. Campaign workers were invited to talk about their experiences and what they wanted to see change in the workplace. Meanwhile, one of the legislative groups tasked with addressing sexual harassment in Illinois government is looking to change the state election code and Human Rights Act to add protections for campaign workers. A panel appointed by Madigan in the wake of the Hampton’s allegations – U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos, Comptroller Susana Mendoza and state Rep. Carol Ammons – will examine the issue as well. The panel won’t handle any investigations, but plans to talk with those who have spoken out about sexual misconduct within the Democratic Party, according to a letter from the three officials released last month. All funding and work for the panel will be independent from the Democratic Party. “This is a long-standing problem,” said state Rep. Kelly Cassidy, a Chicago Democrat and one of the lawmakers who met with LaBounty. “This is something that is endemic to this industry. We are the most nontraditional of nontraditional workplaces.” In an environment that requires considerable work in an often tight time span, it’s common to encounter unclear expectations and confusion about where employees go to report a problem such as sexual harassment, LaBounty said. Often one person is assigned the human resources role in addition to their campaign duties, and that person rarely has training or experience, LaBounty said. In large campaigns, a more formal HR department is more common, but its existence does not remedy the concerns of campaign workers. “Those are the sorts of situations where, while having adequate processes and adequate HR is certainly something that might be a little bit helpful for stabilizing the situation. . . the HR people still work for and are accountable to the employer at the end of the day,” she said. The guild is working in Illinois and several other states to get contracts for campaign workers that include specific clauses protecting them from harassment and requiring each campaign to have a person to file complaints with and a process to move the claim forward to an impartial third-party investigation. So far, the union group has only been contacted by Democratic campaigns, but if a Republican campaign staffer were to approach the group with an interest in unionizing, they would help, LaBounty said. Leaders of the House Task Force on Sexual Harassment are looking to strengthen the complaint reporting process as well. Their proposal includes changes in the state election code that would mandate all political committees maintain discrimination and harassment policies. Additionally, training in sexual harassment and discrimination would be required. “They would have to have some of the things that we require of ourselves in government,” said state Rep. Sara Wojcicki Jimenez, a Republican from Leland Grove. She and Democratic Rep. Barbara Flynn Currie co-chair the task force. By expanding the definition of an employee to include some campaign workers and the definition of employer to include the political committees that run campaigns in the Human Rights Act, Jimenez is hoping the committee will be able to tackle the issue of the campaign misconduct reporting structure. “A lot of what we’re doing right now is diving into our current law to see where we need to make some adjustments to include places for folks not only to get training if they work on a campaign, and if something were to happen, how they could report that up through the process and get a due process situation to hear their complaint,” Jimenez said. The task force has set up an email account, sdhtaskforce@ilga.gov, for the general public to submit suggestions and tips for amending the law to better tackle the nationwide issue of sexual harassment and discrimination.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Today’s immigration That was then. Today, millions of immigrants, including some who make it here legally, assume they don’t have to learn English or assimilate to our culture and values, but, rather, that we accommodate theirs. Moreover, they believe they are entitled to collect welfare, get free health services and even vote in our elections. Naturally, the always dependable ACLU is fighting for illegal aliens to have the right to vote in presidential elections. But can we really place all the blame on immigrants, both illegal and illegal, who after arriving in this country become dependent on the free perks and unconditional services handed out by our government (courtesy of taxpayers) for their living, hand-outs that not even American citizens are privy to. It is, after all, what a great many sources are telling immigrants, people like college professors, newspaper publishers, owners of cable TV stations, Hollywood celebrities and, worst of all, members of Congress. Lazarus’ Words Used to Thwart Trump After President Donald Trump’s executive order on immigration in January of 2017, many critics quickly took up a familiar rallying cry, lifting words from the Statue of Liberty that have for decades represented American immigration: “Give me your tired, your poor / Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.”)

Additionally if appointed the candidate must hold a number of credentials including a bachelor’s degree, professional certification (CPA, CGAP or CIA) and be a Peoria county resident. “The county board has got a draft ordinance that they would move to adopt if the referendum is successful and that has requirements for a selection process which they would appoint similar to how they appoint the supervisor assessments,” said county administrator Scott Sorrel.)

NBC5
— ‘Political Hit Job’: Rauner Responds to Harold Gay Adoption Controversy – Mary Ann Ahern (DIERSEN: Ever-increasingly, to be a Democrat is a) to promote LGBTQ activity and b) to destroy those who do not promote LGBTQ activity.)
https://www.nbcchicago.com/blogs/ward-room/Political-Hit-Job-Rauner-Responds-to-Harold-Gay-Adoption-Controversy-476616963.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The recent controversy over what Erika Harold said while a contestant for the Miss Illinois pageant 18 years ago is a political hit job, Gov. Bruce Rauner said Monday. He said he still supports her candidacy for attorney general, but how do Rauner and his opponent Jeanne Ives stand on the issue of gay adoptions? “I’ve known Erika Harold for about five years,” Rauner said. “I have found her to be a person of great talent and integrity.” Harold has not released a public schedule since the NBC 5 report last week that when she competed in the pageant in 2000 and was asked if she had to choose to place a child in foster care with either a loving gay couple or a heterosexual couple who were known child abusers. Sources in the room that days said she selected the child abusers. “It’s a preposterous question and I know many loving, excellent parents who are gay couples–and that would be a good option,” Rauner said. Jeanie Ives responded to the question as well. “Nobody ever places any child in an abusive situation–period,” she said. The four sources with knowledge of the pageant, including a contestant who watched the videotaped interview, confirmed Harold’s response. Other officials have taken offense to the comment. “I know there are anti-gay people out there,” Democrat state Rep. Greg Harri said. “But the disturbing thing to me is that she would want a child to go into a family of abusers.” As for the state of the GOP race, while Rauner leads in the polls, Ives, who is fighting ads that link her to House Speaker Mike Madigan, believes she could score an upset. “We know the most motivated voters are the ones that are showing up at the poll,” she said. “And when that comes up–I’ll tell you what–that is real victory on March 20 for us.”)

WTTW-Ch. 11’s “Chicago Tonight” has a forum for the GOP governor candidates scheduled for 7 p.m. A Rauner campaign spokesman confirms the governor isn’t attending, and a spokeswoman for the station says Ives will be interviewed alone if he doesn’t show. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-daniel-biss-central-committee-20180313-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Democratic governor candidate Daniel Biss is exploring ways to help insurgent candidates for the state party’s leadership committee and challenge House Speaker Michael Madigan’s chairmanship. A Biss aide said the state senator from Evanston has talked with campaign attorneys about what fundraising mechanism could be used to assist challengers to about a dozen members the Democratic State Central Committee. The 36-member panel elects the party chairman. It’s made up of one man and one woman from each of Illinois’ 18 congressional districts, and the seats are on the primary ballot. There were no details yet on whether any arrangement had been made. Madigan has been actively backing current committee members seeking re-election. Such a move would be a furtherance of Biss’ effort to support progressive causes in his bid to gain support for governor from the more liberal wing of the Democratic Party. On Tuesday, he is expected to add endorsements from Indivisible groups in the Lakeview neighborhood and Oak Park. The Indivisible groups were formed in the wake of President Donald Trump’s election. Over the weekend, rival candidate Chris Kennedy said he believed the Democratic Party establishment should welcome such groups into the party fold but said they had been rebuffed. “It’s great to see Chris Kennedy wants progressive groups involved in the state party, especially since those progressive groups have overwhelmingly endorsed Daniel Biss for governor,” said Biss spokesman Tom Elliott.)

http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/naperville-sun/community/chi-ugc-article-an-experiment-in-democracy-stroll-to-the-pol-2018-03-12-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: n a chilly Sunday afternoon, 69 American Government students from Metea Valley High School and Waubonsie Valley High School turned out to join with the League of Women Voters Naperville to encourage voters to participate in the March 20 primary elections. Five Naperville precincts were identified as having some of the lowest voter turnout in terms of the number of registered voters, so students went door to door in those precincts to encourage people to vote. Students returned with feedback from residents, some of it positive, and some of it negative. Some of the negative comments included, “Voting is too much effort,” “All politicians are liars.” Positive feedback included, “Voting is a way to have an impact on society,” and “I vote because I want to see good things happen in my country.” One resident told students, “I like it when you’re not selling anything,” to which the students replied, “We’re only selling Democracy.” After the March 20 election, students and their teachers will review voter turnout numbers to see if they were able to positively affect voter turnout in the precincts they visited.)

— FRONT PAGE TOP OF FOLD: Why DuPage Democrats may ask some county board nominees to drop out of race – Robert Sanchez and Bob Smith
http://www.dailyherald.com/news/20180312/why-dupage-democrats-may-ask-some-county-board-nominees-to-drop-out-of-race
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Elizabeth Chaplin, the only Democrat on the county board, said candidates have been aware of the strategy since last summer. While she didn’t sign the pledge, Chaplin said she likely will step aside if she’s not the top vote-getter among the three Democrats seeking her party’s nod for two District 2 seats. The challenge, she said, is that Republicans normally pull about 20,000 ballots in DuPage primaries while Democrats pull only 5,000. If those numbers hold this year — and there are indications they might based on the number of campaign signs and the number of DuPage politicians who marched in recent parades — the Democrats’ chances of winning any board seat will drop dramatically unless they focus their efforts on a smaller number of races. “We can have more candidates on the ballot and lose or fewer candidates on the ballot and have a better chance of winning,” Chaplin said. While the plan was known in Democratic circles, it didn’t gain much public attention until John Basco, one of three Democrats seeking two seats in District 3, posted it on social media. Basco said he originally agreed to step down if he finished second in the primary, but has since changed his mind.)

— BEYOND DISGUSTING, BEYOND TRAGIC: Bill on medical marijuana use in schools moves to House floor – Angela Underwood
https://dupagepolicyjournal.com/stories/511359254-bill-on-medical-marijuana-use-in-schools-moves-to-house-floor
(FROM THE ARTICLE: “I remember how this went down the first time when we approved using marijuana products for epilepsy and I was in favor of it, and then the sponsor who is here today immediately changed all the rules in a floor amendment that didn’t go back to committee,” Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) said, adding Lang was doing the same thing again. “Now we know what the intent is, and the intent is to eventually have school personnel be the ones who are administering this drug.” She called the bill a a “slippery slope,” though it was narrowly tailored to a child sitting before her at the witness panel with her parents. “We started with a four-year pilot program for medical marijuana, and we have made changes every single year since,” Ives said. “Now the concern quite frankly is that before you know it, it’s an edible not an oil, there are all sorts of other conditions and not just epilepsy and then it is administered by school nurses or other personnel.” Ives made it clear to the family that she will support the bill for them, but she “will be watching,” Lang for future changes in the bill that he may try to slip in. . .Prefacing his comments with the fact that he comes from the old school, Rep. John Cavaletto (R-Salem) remembers when marijuana had only a negative connotation before it was considered to be medically healing, however he still sees it as a problem. “I visited Colorado not too long ago and happened to be there for about five days and did walk from one restaurant back to my hotel every evening with my wife and I witnessed these people on the sidewalks, in the corner and on the grassy knolls are drugged out,” Cavaletto said. “That’s the side of marijuana I see.” He said he cannot seem to put it in his mind that of all the drugs now produced, medical marijuana is the only one that can control epileptic seizures for children, but his thoughts are countered by the parents that sat before him, making him reconsider the notion.)
— House panel backs bill making physicals for substitute teachers optional – Angela Underwood (DIERSEN: Democrats run the schools. Of course, if physicals are made optional, those Democrats will waive the requirement for Democrat applicants and impose the requirement on Republican applicants. Overwhelmingly, my superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates in the federal government who had serious health problems were Democrats.)
https://dupagepolicyjournal.com/stories/511359301-house-panel-backs-bill-making-physicals-for-substitute-teachers-optional
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) brought up the irony of having unfit substitute teacher supervising a gym class. “Nobody says you have to hire them,” Sherer said. Sherer said the bill was about giving more rights back to local control. “I agree with that too; however you have issues here because once you leave it open to interpretation by the school district then you are absolutely opening it up for discrimination, because they forced someone to get a physical or they declined them because they felt like they were not physically fit enough for the position,” Ives said. “Then you put them (school districts) in a conundrum, you see.” Next comes workers’ compensation problems, Ive said, noting if a substitute gets injured doing an exercise they are not up for, the school district could become liable; however, Scherer said it is “about local control and it is as simple as that.” After Ives voted no and left the meeting, Rep. Robert Pritchard (R-Hinckley) sought clarification on the bill, asking if Sherer was looking to temporarily waive the licensing in an effort to get needed teachers sooner and was told no; he then asked if the “teachers association and management alliance” approved the bill. “There are no opponents,” Sherer said. Rep. David Olsen (R-Downers Grove) said he was confused. “Maybe I am the only confused one whether it is evidence of physical fitness or a physical where I go to my doctor and I get a physical,” Olsen said. Sherer said it is not about how many sit-ups a substitute can perform or times they can run around the block, it is a money issue, alleviating the ancillary educator from coming up with even more funds than necessary to be certified. “I respect the concerns Rep. Ives had about workers’ comp and such, but you are correct we do have a teacher shortage and I think we need to take some steps to address that shortage,” Olsen said. Rep. John Cavaletto (R-Salem) shared Ives’ apprehension. “I really don’t like that,” Cavaletto, adding though he understands the shortage, that should not be a reason to exclude some substitutes from mandates teachers themselves are required to follow. He then asked about the cost of a physical, which Sherer said could cost up to $400, but physical or not a substitute would have to be free of communicable disease. “How many of those are there I wonder,” Cavaletto said. Though he was not thrilled with the bill, Cavaletto said he would support the bill due to the teacher shortage. The panel approved HB4706 and the bill moved to the House floor.)

Under Aryzta, Cloverhill bakery used a “segregationist employment model” that hired immigrant workers through temporary work agencies and paid them lower wages as a way of repressing wages for all workers — a divide-and-conquer strategy that’s common in Chicago industry, said Dan Giloth, project manager for the Coalition Against Segregation of Employees.)

INSIDE SOURCES
— Turning Away GOP Customers in New Hampshire May Not Be Smart, But It’s Not Illegal – Michael Graham (DIERSEN: Who turns you away? As more and more and more individuals, organizations, businesses, governments, etc. become more and more and more anti-Trump, anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-patriotic, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, anti-German Americans, and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America longer than their ancestors, they will turn away those who are Trump supporters, Protestant, conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, German American, and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time.)
http://www.insidesources.com/turning-away-gop-customers-nh-may-not-smart-not-illegal/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: When the Used Apple Store of Derry, NH announced that Republican customers would be turned away—for being “evil” — it wasn’t doing anything illegal. Or, it turns out, all that unusual. The Trump era has inspired a spate of stories about businesses large and small refusing service to Republicans and/or Trump supporters: Tech companies who’ve announced they will “will no longer do business with any person that is a registered Republican or supports Donald Trump;” fast food restaurants where Trump fans go unserved. At a Mexican restaurant in upstate New York, not only was a couple wearing Trump gear refused service, the owner followed them out shouting “We don’t serve Trump supporters here. Get out of here and never come back.’ ” So perhaps New Hampshire residents who need their MacBooks repaired should count themselves lucky to get off with just a rude Facebook post. “We say ‘no thank you’ to any Republican. If you affiliate with the Republican Party you are not welcome into our store,” the store posted on its page. “You have an uptight, closed energy, negative aura to you… almost evil, and to be honest, usually evil.” Perhaps, but they also make up a (slim) majority of the voters registered by party in New Hampshire, not to mention their local customer base. Donald Trump beat Hillary Clinton in Derry 58-42 percent (Trump lost statewide by less than 3,000 votes). So why do it?)
