ONE NEWS NOW
— Illinois on verge of becoming sanctuary state #4 – Chad Groening  (DIERSEN: One could argue that if Rauner signs SB 31, he has become a Democrat and he told Republicans to buzz off.  Will that reelect him in 2018?)
https://www.onenewsnow.com/national-security/2017/06/08/illinois-on-verge-of-becoming-sanctuary-state-4
(FROM THE ARTICLE: An immigration border enforcement advocacy organization hopes the Republican governor of Illinois will veto a bill that would give sanctuary to illegal immigrants in the state. On the last day of its legislative session, the Illinois Legislature sent Governor Bruce Rauner a bill that critics say would tie the hands of law enforcement and significantly undermine federal immigration enforcement in the state. The Trust Act (SB 31) significantly restricts immigration officials’ ability to detain and deport illegal aliens, even if convicted of a crime. Ira Mehlman, a spokesman for the Federation for American Immigration Reform, argues the bill “essentially declares that Illinois is not going to participate in any way in federal immigration enforcement.” “And they are going to make it has difficult as possible for the federal government itself to enforce immigration laws in the state of Illinois,” he adds. SB 31 – if it becomes law – would make Illinois the fourth sanctuary state in the country, joining Oregon, California, and Connecticut. But Mehlman holds out hope that won’t happen, pointing out that Rauner is a Republican. Mehlman, Ira (Federation for American Immigration Reform)”… It’s now going to be up to him to decide whether this dangerous bill should become law or whether, properly, he should veto it,” says Mehlman. “And that may be a good reason why the people of Illinois elected him to kind of serve as a firewall between the public interest and a legislature that seems to be out of control.” Rauner, who is running for re-election, has not spoken on the Trust Act. He has 60 days to decide whether he will sign it.)

FED SMITH
— Michael Moore Asks Federal Employees to Blow the Whistle on the Trump Administration – Ian Smith  (DIERSEN: While I worked for the Democrats who ran the federal government for almost 30 years 1966-1969 and 1971-1997, I blew the whistle on patronage, on political affiliation discrimination, on reverse discrimination, on age discrimination, and on retaliation for complaining about the aforesaid. Because I blew the whistle, my Democrat GAO superiors forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, did not promote me beyond GS-13, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take an $18,847 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980.  My Democrat IRS did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974.  My Democrat Post Office superiors forced me resign in 1969 and disallowed my sick leave requests in 1969 and 1968.)

MONEY MAGAZINE
— Saving $1 Million for Retirement Is Possible Even If You Start at Age 50 – Jennifer Calfas  (DIERSEN: So far, in today’s dollars, my Democrat GAO superiors’ success in forcing me to take their early retirement “offer” in 1997 when I was 49 years old has cost me $1,424,844, that is, lost salary of $2,429,250 ($10,250/month X 237 months) minus pension payments of $1,004,406 ($4,238/month X 237 months).)
http://time.com/money/4798284/retirement-saving-401k/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The chart below from the AAII shows five different scenarios of how much people can accumulate by saving from age 50 to age 70:
You make the maximum 401(k) contribution, including the catch-up contribution allowed for those 50 or older (a total of $24,000 a year). You make the full $18,000 a year 401(k) contribution, but skip the catch-up provision. You save $1,000 a month (setting aside $12,000 a year). You contribute the maximum to an IRA, including a catch-up contribution ($6,500 per year). You make the maximum $5,500 IRA contribution, but skip the catch-up provision. In each case, Charles Rotblut, a vice president at AAII and editor of the AAII Journal, assumed that you would earn 8% a year from a stock and bond portfolio. The 401(k) and IRA contribution limits are based on the rules for 2017.The projected account balance at 70 years old ranges from $1.3 million for a person who maxes out his or her 401(k) including catch-up contributions to $300,000 for a person who saves only to the basic $5,500 annual IRA limit.)

Many, if not most, if not virtually all for my Democrat GAO superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates hinted/implied/argued/shouted that I should have been forced to suffer a $57,808 (64%) pay cut in today’s dollars, that is, a downgrade from GS-12 Step 5, currently $90,173, to GS-4 Step 1, currently $32,365.  They demonized, denigrated, and condemned  a)  my IRS work experience and that much of it was similar to what GAO employees do, b) my having passed the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979, c)  my almost completing the requirements for a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul, d) my having earned an MBA from Loyola in 1976, e) etc.  They never would have done that if I had been a Democrat, a minority, a female, or a veteran.)

— Drain the swamp? Not if this guy can help it. – Monica Hesse  (DIERSEN: If GAO had been unionized in 1997, I might still be a GAO employee, but GAO did not unionize until 2007.  If I was still a GAO employee, for the last 19 years and 9 months, instead of getting a Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) pension, I would have paid 7% of my salary into the CSRS.)

(FROM THE ARETICLE: The federal workforce. Blech. Blech, now more than ever, or so it seems, in the minds of the new administration. “A waste of your money,” Trump’s budget director, Mick Mulvaney, said in March about federal climate-change research. “Can we really continue to ask a coal miner in West Virginia or a single mom in Detroit to pay for these programs?” he had said about public broadcasting. “Taxpayers are stuck paying for overly generous compensation,” Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), chair of the House subcommittee on government operations, said about federal employees as a whole — the big morass of some 2.8 million civil servants nationwide. Donald Trump, master of punchy catchphrases, had spent his campaign and the early days of his presidency promising to do the same thing: “Drain that swamp.” The swamp was the federal government of Washington. The epicenter of the swamp was metaphorically at 80 F St. NW, in the office of a stocky 66-year-old man named J. David Cox. Cox is the president of the American Federation of Government Employees, the largest federal workers union in America. More than 300,000 dues-paying members, and around 400,000 more also protected by default. “Every Zip code in America,” as Cox likes to say. “Coast to coast, Guam to Europe.”)

— The Need for a Middle America News Network – Bruce Walker (DIERSEN: What do you say to Democrat plants, to Libertarian plants, to Green plants, and to RINOs in Illinois, in DuPage County, in Milton Township, in Glen Ellyn, and in Wheaton who focus on discouraging everyone from reading GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails?)
https://illinoisfamilyaction.org/2017/06/the-need-for-a-middle-america-news-network/
(DIERSEN: The decline and lurch to the left of the Fox News Network provides an opening for any astute conservative billionaire: create a news network specifically intended to provide news from the viewpoint of most of America, which is to say the seventy-five percent of Americans who live in Flyover Country.  While the geographic concentration of political power in America is appalling, the geographic concentration of media power is much worse. Because the media defy elections and, in fact, determine elections, having almost all national news pass through the tiny channel of the New York-to-Washington Beltway is toxic to our national life. This is not an ideological monopoly, but rather a geographical monopoly.  But because the environment between Washington and New York is so utterly artificial and so completely leftist, what has happened to Fox News – a constant drift to the left – is an unrelenting and corrosive force that isolates the media and the government of America from the overwhelming majority who live in Middle America. Consider a neutral and fair political site like RealClearPolitics.  It is not uncommon to have one third of the stories from New York media outlets and one third of the stories from Washington media outlets and the rest from national outlets without a particular geographical designation but situated in the Beltway.  On those rare instances in which another city’s media has stories in RealClearPolitics, the city is usually Boston or Los Angeles. What that means is that the vast majority of Americans are utterly disenfranchised politically in the only area that really counts in a nation as large and media-driven as America.  What this also means is that as Fox News declines into irrelevance, as it will, there is a gaping hole for those with the money, the guts, and the vision to create a television network specifically focused on Middle America. This network should include a news network located in the center of America and dedicated to presenting stories that inform Americans what is happening in this majority of our nation.  There is vast ignorance within the Beltway media about how the energy industry works or how wheat and cotton are grown and cattle raised and ores mined. While Fox News periodically had stories presented from its Beltway offices about the plight of the timber industry in Washington State or the small oil producers in Oklahoma, stories from the Middle America News Network would be produced by those who actually live in these areas and presented to Americans by newscasters whose home is in Omaha or Knoxville or Salt Lake City or Little Rock.  This new network would also have a much easier time breaking into the cable news lineup than Fox News did because it would overtly be representing the perspective of local listeners in cities around the nation. Fox News rightly picked the target audience to make it grow: those millions of Americans disgusted by the ideological monopoly of the leftist establishment media.  The Middle America News Network would represent not just the ideologically disempowered, but the culturally disempowered, who find their beliefs and lives treated as weird curiosities.  The market share for this news network could skyrocket fast, particularly among the tens of millions of Americans who simply never watch network news any longer. This new network could also introduce a whole new way of interviewing members of Congress.  Instead of having these members show up at a studio in Washington or New York, the network could invite them to be interviewed for national television in their home states.  Those who decline an interview might find their likely rivals in the next election interviewed instead with the tag “The Middle America News Network invited Senator Mugwump to discuss the impact of environmental regulations on business here, but he was too busy in Washington to come here for the interview.” The idea would be to shift always, always, always the focus of attention and interest away from that micron of America that is the Beltway and back to the huge expanse from Alaska to Minnesota to Florida to Arizona that is America.  The idea would also be to force both political parties, which is to say Washington Party A and Washington Party B, to actually notice forty or so states that may be called “Flyover Country” if they wish their political parties to have a chance at gaining or holding power. This network could transform politics in America by forcing the parties to turn from Washington (“The Swamp”) and back to the American people spread all across this land.)

(FROM THE LETTER: Trump, on the other hand, never served in the military (bone spurs won him a deferment but, strangely, didn’t stop him from playing football, tennis and squash in high school at the New York Military Academy). He never served in local government, on a library board or water commission, church council, or the PTA. There’s no evidence at all that Trump ever cared for anything other than Donald Trump. When asked by ABC’s George Stephanopoulos about sacrifices Trump had made for his country, Trump replied, “I’ve … built great structures. I’ve had tremendous success.” That’s greed, not sacrifice.)

Melinda Bush admonished her Republican counterparts in the dwindling hours of the legislative session, where members of both parties got increasingly testy with one another. Bush, of Grayslake, made the comments after the chamber passed a two-year property tax freeze that had only three Republican votes. They are saving lives, empowering small businesses, keeping America safe from harm, and otherwise ensuring a safe and prosperous future for our country, children and families. Many of our federal employees perform jobs that no one else can do, often in places no one else would work.)
— Keeping Employees Engaged During Periods of Uncertainty – Allison Abbe  (DIERSEN: All during the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO 1980-1997, the agency was in a “period of uncertainty.”  To keep GAO’s employees who were Democrat, minority, female, younger, and/or veteran “engaged,” the Democrats who ran GAO promised to get rid of agency’s employees who were Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)

The definition of a “sanctuary city” is one which allows illegal aliens to reside within its jurisdiction, flouting state and federal immigration laws. And the operative word is “illegal.” But, the word “immigration” was spoken 8 times, without the prefix “illegal”. “Immigrant” was used spoken 4 times, with the prefix “illegal” zero times, but “undocumented” used only once.)

https://www.benzinga.com/markets/futures/17/05/9524780/civil-servants-push-back-at-trump-gop-characterizations-of-career-feds
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The GOP-controlled Congress and President Donald Trump have hammered away at what they characterize as slackers with too many benefits and too much time on their hands, and, frankly, civil servants are sick of it. “Contrary to what you may have heard in a recent congressional hearing, my members are barely holding on to a middle-class standard of living,” Pam Sturm, president of the National Treasury Employees Union, which represents 822 IRS workers in St. Louis, said in a statement. “They struggle to pay for housing, utilities, rising health-care costs, tuition and care for children or elderly parents,” Sturm said. She said 65 percent of her members are Grade 5 to Grade 8, which means their starting salary is $33,000. The highest salary for Grade 8 employees is $58,962.)
