(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois Supreme Court Justice Michael Burke is running for election as a Republican. He’s serving from the current 2nd Judicial District. A new district map will be in effect when the next term starts, so if he’s elected Burke will be in the newly drawn 3rd District that covers LaSalle, Bureau, and Grundy counties plus DuPage County where he’s from. Burke joined the state’s highest court last year when Robert Thomas retired. He announced his candidacy today, just three days after Gov. Pritzker signed the bill into law to create the new legislative and judicial districts that’ll be in effect for the 2022 elections. It’s the first redraw of the Illinois judicial districts in nearly 60 years. According to the 72-year old Burke’s campaign web site, people endorsing him for election include St. Sen. Sue Rezin, Illinois House members Tom Demmer and David Welter, former LaSalle County Sheriff Tom Templeton, Grundy County State’s Attorney Jason Helland, and former Illinois Attorney General Jim Ryan. If he wins the 2022 elections, Burke would have a ten-year term toward the end of which he would be up for a retention vote if he wants to keep the job. The ballots in 2032 would ask voters if he should remain a Supreme Court Justice. But the 2022 ballots will ask voters to choose from Burke and other candidates if others run. (FROM THE ARTICLE: According to the Urban Institute, black and Hispanic landlords have lower incomes and own fewer properties than their white counterparts. They are also “more likely to have a mortgage than own their building outright” and make up a disproportionate number of the landlords who have at least one mortgage in forbearance. This isn’t the first time that Biden, who professes to care so much about equity, has pushed damaging policies that disproportionately harm minorities. Biden’s Title IX changes, which treat students accused of sexual misconduct as guilty until proven, also disproportionately harm black college students. The systemic racism Biden has warned so much about is coming from inside the White House. In pursuing policies that make liberals feel good but are damaging when put in place, as both the eviction moratorium and Title IX changes are, Biden is perpetuating the very problem he claims to be so concerned about. The narrative around systemic racism somehow does not apply to these Democratic policies, proving once again that it is a political narrative and nothing more. They hint/imply/argue/shout that I took those BAD JOBS because I am lazy and stupid. In my defense, I earned a) a job-related bachelor’s degree when I was 21 in 1970 and job-related master’s degrees when I was 27, 31, and 48, b) job-related professional certifications when I was 30, 32, 41, 45, 47, and 48, and c) a job-related professional license when I was 32. Further, in my defense, those who hired me and those who promoted me in 1972, 1973, 1974, and 1986 were under tremendous pressure from Democrat politicians to hire and promote Democrats, and especially Democrats who were minority, female, younger, and/or veteran.)
