— Illinois Republican Party Chairman Application (COMMENT: The Illinois Republican Party (IRP) should announce in a press release the evening of July 10 the names of the candidates for chairman, lots of information about them including what they have done to defend and advance the Republican Party platform, how Illinois Republicans can contact their IRP State Central Committee (SCC) member concerning them, and the weighted vote that each IRP SCC member has. Illinois Republicans should be able to watch the candidates’ presentations via Zoom on July 12. The IRP should announce in a press release the evening of July 12 the winning candidate and how much weighted vote that candidate got from each IRP SCC member. In 2005, as an Illinois Center Right Coalition Steering Committee member, I organized a candidate forum in Springfield the evening before the day that the IRP SCC elected Andy McKenna as the IRP chairman. Participants in that forum were John Cox, Stephen McGlynn, McKenna, and Jim Nalepa. Jim Oberweis wanted to participate, but could not.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: In every presidential election since 1984, the pro-life plank in the Republican party’s platform has declared: “We endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to unborn children.” But all signs are pointing toward Donald Trump ripping that Reagan-era plank out of the platform and replacing it with something to his own liking that removes any reference to the 14th Amendment and federal legislation. Illinois Republicans anxiously await the Illinois Republican Party (IRP) to issue a press release that gives:


a) the names of the two other members of the IRP chairman search committee,
b) the selection process that the committee will use,
c) the qualifications that applicants must have,
d) the requirements that applicants must meet, and
e) the application filing deadline.

Illinois Republicans anxiously await the IRP to then issue press releases that give:


a) the names of all the applicants who met the filing deadline,
b) the names of all those applicants the committee deemed qualified,
c) lots of information on those applicants,
d) how Illinois Republicans can provide input on those applicants to IRP State Central Committee (SCC) members,
e) the date, time, and location of the meeting in which the applicants will give their presentations to the IRP SCC,
f) how Illinois Republicans can attend that meeting,
g) the Zoom link that Illinois Republicans can use to watch the applicant’s presentations at that meeting,
h) the weighted vote that each IRP SCC member has,
i) the weighted vote that each applicant got and from each of the IRP SCC members, and
j) the name of the winning applicant.



I am very interested in learning what each the applicants has done and has promised to do to defend and advance the personal responsibility, traditional marriage and family, right to life, immigration, illegal drugs, Second Amendment, and equal opportunity (no race or gender based preference giving) planks in the Republican Party platform. I am very interested in learning what position each of the applicants has on direct election of IRP SCC members. It seems to me that the committee will reject applicants who want direct election.



In 2005, as an Illinois Center Right Coalition Steering Committee member, I organized an applicant forum in Springfield the evening before the day that the IRP SCC elected Andy McKenna as IRP’s chairman. The participants in that forum were John Cox, Stephen McGlynn, McKenna, and Jim Nalepa. Jim Oberweis wanted to participate, but could not.



In 2013, I attended the IRP SCC meeting in Springfield at which IRP chairman applicants gave five minute presentations on why they should be the next IRP chairman. Jack Dorgan was selected. The other applicants were Angel Garcia, Jim Nalepa, Mark Shaw, Don Tracy, Joe Walsh, and Lori Yokoyama.



Richard Williamson was the IRP chairman 1999–2001, Lee Daniels 2001–2002, Dallas Ingemunson 2002 (interim), Gary MacDougal, 2002–2002, Judy Baar Topinka 2002–2005, Andrew McKenna 2005–2009, Pat Brady 2009–2013, Jack Dorgan 2013–2014, Tim Schneider 2014–2021; Mark Shaw, Co-Chairman 2018–2024, and Don Tracy 2021–present.



Why is the Illinois Democrat Party (IDP) as successful as the IRP is unsuccessful, that is, what distinguishes IDP leaders from IRP leaders? ANSWER: IDP leaders believe in and defend/advance all the planks in the Democrat Party platform while IRP leaders reject or fail/refuse to defend/advance many planks, if not most planks, if not virtually all the planks in the Republican Party platform. Far too many of them paint themselves as being Democrat Lite and are Democrat Lite. The aforesaid is a direct result of IDP SCC members being directly elected by Democrats while IRP SCC members are not directly elected by Republicans. I should write a book about IRP leaders since 2000 and the planks in the Republican Party platform that they have rejected or failed/refused to defend/advance.

Since 2000, I have reported on all the changes in leadership of the Illinois Republican Party (IRP).  I attended the meetings in which candidates made their presentations in 2005 and 2013. Whoever shared Tracy’s resignation letter with the Democrat news media did not share it with me. What does that say about that person?  It says that person does not want me to send out GOPUSA ILLINOIS newsletters and does not want anyone to read them. Those who do that a) reject planks in the IRP platform and/or b) destroy those like me who they cannot manipulate or dominate, who refuse to glorify and praised them, who refuse to pander to them, who refuse to serve as one of their operatives or dupes, who refuse to cover up their wrong doing, and/or who refuse to give them money. Those who do that blame me and blame my newsletters for their problems, for your problems, for my problems, and/or for everyone’s problems. Those who do that are anti-conservative if not conservative-hating RINOs if not Democrat plants, Libertarian plants, Green plants, or Independent plants who use the Democrat news media to advance themselves and/or to destroy the IRP.

Those who not want me to send out GOPUSA ILLINOIS newsletters and do not want anyone to read them a) removed me from the IRP State Convention Platform and Resolutions Committee in 2024, b) ended my service as the Republican fundraiser for Wheaton Independence Day parades and fireworks in 2021, c) ended my bid to be selected to fill a Wheaton City Council West District vacancy in 2019, d) gerrymandered my precinct in 2015, e) ended my chairmanship of TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois in 2012, f) ended my membership on the Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee in 2011, g) ended my service as Milton Township Republican Organization (MTRO) webmaster in 2010 and 2004, h) ended my membership on the Illinois Center Right Coalition (ICRC) Steering Committee in 2007, i) almost got ICRC to censure me for my GOPUSA ILLINOIS newsletters in 2006, j) ended my bid to serve as MTRO Treasurer in 2004, and k) ended my membership on the American Association of Political Consultants Midwest Chapter board of directors in 2004.

I am a conservative independent not-for-profit aggregator of government and political news and commentary who promotes the Republican Party platform. QUESTION: What differentiates me from those reporters and journalists who demonize me, who denigrate me, and who condemn me? ANSWER: I state that I am a conservative Republican and I am a conservative Republican. In 2005, as an Illinois Center Right Coalition Steering Committee member, I organized a candidate forum in Springfield the evening before the day that the Illinois Republican Party (IRP) State Central Committee elected Andy McKenna as IRP’s chairman. The participants were John Cox, Stephen McGlynn, McKenna, and Jim Nalepa. Jim Oberweis wanted to participate, but could not.

Unfortunately, however, I have had to spend far too much time dealing with intra party power struggles, and local intra party animosities that continued after primaries and County Chair elections,” Tracy wrote in the letter. “In better days, Illinois Republicans came together after tough intraparty elections,” Tracy continued. “Now however, we have Republicans who would rather fight other Republicans than engage in the harder work of defeating incumbent Democrats by convincing swing voters to vote Republican.” Tracy said his resignation was effective upon the election of a new chairman or “no later than July 19,” which is the day after the Republican National Convention ends. He authorized a three-member committee to search for his replacement. Tracy held the party chairmanship since February 2021. An attorney from Springfield and a co-owner of his family’s wealthy food distribution business, he was narrowly elected by a moderate coalition of the Republican State Central Committee over Shaw to replace then-GOP Gov. Bruce Rauner’s handpicked chairman, Tim Schneider, who Shaw helped push out. Tracy was chosen as the first state Republican chairman from outside the Chicago area since 1988. Though previously an unsuccessful candidate for lieutenant governor in 2014 (2010?), he was viewed as coming from the donor class of the party rather than having a strong background in rank-and-file political organizing. That image proved to be his downfall as the GOP suffered continued political losses that led Democrats to control all three branches of state government and saw its suburban base sharply eroded in the populous collar counties. Republicans have lost a sizable share of suburban residents as the party that once embraced fiscal conservatism and social moderation has shifted sharply to more social conservatism and moved the GOP’s geographic base to less-populated rural downstate Illinois. Tracy failed to find ways to harness the rural populism that was an outgrowth of Trump’s dominance of the party. He also didn’t help party candidates distance themselves from Trump’s unpopularity in the suburbs, the region which has traditionally been the key for Republican success statewide. Ultimately, it was the controversies that engulfed Shaw at the state GOP convention in Collinsville that led to Tracy’s resignation. Shaw obtained an unauthorized delegate badge that entitled him to vote for himself for national committeeman, but he was twice rejected for the post by an overwhelming floor vote of delegates. Urged to drop out of the national committeeman’s race, Shaw later acknowledged he threatened to kick the “ass” of another state central committee member. Shaw also faced criticism for handing out drink tickets promoting his own RNC candidacy to a hospitality room dedicated to pushing support for Trump. With various Republican county chairs and state central committee members urging Tracy to remove Shaw from the vice chairmanship, Tracy took no public position and said he was powerless to force Shaw out. Critics said that made Tracy look weak and they also accused him of siding with Shaw by questioning whether he was being treated unfairly. In his letter, Tracy said the sacking of Shaw was “without due process” and “ portends a direction of the state party I am not comfortable with.” Tracy’s handling of the Shaw controversies reopened long-standing concerns about Tracy’s leadership abilities after having survived a “no confidence” test among state central committee members in May of last year. In his letter, Tracy said his decision to resign had been made prior to a Tribune article detailing concerns from party insiders about his leadership. But he erroneously wrote that “no one from the Tribune called me about this article, which I did not learn of until (Wednesday) morning.” A state GOP spokesman said Tuesday that Tracy “can’t chat today” to respond to a Tribune inquiry about party leadership moves. Tracy also had faced criticism as an inadequate spokesman for the state party, often dodging reporters at GOP events and, when speaking to them, repeating national Republican talking points rather than addressing the substance of questions. A similar pattern was evident at state central committee meetings, said one source familiar with the inner working of party matters. The source said Tracy showed up “literally” reading from a script and, if something happened off-script, he would “have to take a break.” Even before Tracy’s announcement, efforts to replace him had been brewing. Two potential successors who have been frequently mentioned are Aaron Del Mar, a former Cook County GOP chair from Palatine, and state Sen. Jason Plummer of Edwardsville. Both are members of the state central committee. In addition to Tracy’s resignation and Shaw’s ouster as vice chair, the state GOP’s finance chairman, suburban businessman Vince Kolber, stepped down following last month’s state convention. Kolber finished third for national committeeman, a post that eventually went to Dean White, a businessman from St. Charles.)
