FEDERALIST
— What Does It Mean To Be A ‘Trump Supporter’? – David Marcus (DIERSEN: I should write a book about those in Illinois, in DuPage County, in Milton Township, in Glen Ellyn, Wheaton, and in my precinct who hate Trump and hate his supporters. In addition to being anti-Trump, they are anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-patriotic, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, anti-German Americans, anti-draft avoiders (except Bill Clinton), and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America longer than their ancestors.)
http://thefederalist.com/2018/01/23/what-does-it-mean-to-support-trump/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: “Do you support Trump?” It is one of the most loaded and divisive questions that can be asked in America today. But what does it mean? What does a yes or no tell us about the people being asked? Does it tell us anything about their views, policy preferences, hopes for the country? With Trump’s reelection campaign two years away, is it essentially a moot question? Is it akin to asking if you support the Astros as World Series champions when, after all, until next October, what difference does it make? Typically, in cases of presidents so far from a reelection bid, we think in terms of approval, not support. There is a subtle but vital difference between the two concepts. What we approve or disapprove of is job performance, not the person. What we support, on the other hand, is the person, not the policies or accomplishments.)

BLAZE

— A report says Trump wanted FBI deputy director fired – here’s why he still has the job – Carlos Garcia (DIERSEN: Who has stood up for you and what happened to them? In 1975, my Democrat IRS superiors got rid of my mentor who had promoted me in 1972, 1973, and 1974. In 1987, my Democrat GAO superiors got rid of my mentor who had hired me in 1980, got me assigned to audits of IRS in 1986, and promoted me in 1986. I should write a book about those who my critic/opponents have destroyed because they stood up for me. My nasty, vicious critics/opponents have lots of religious, government, political, and financial clout in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in Milton Township, in DuPage County, and in Illinois. They focus on destroying those like me a) who refuse to glorify and praise them, b) who refuse to pander to them, c) who refuse to serve as one of their operatives or dupes, and d) who refuse to give them money.)
https://www.theblaze.com/news/2018/01/22/a-report-says-trump-wanted-fbi-deputy-director-fired-heres-why-he-still-has-the-job
(FROM THE ARTICLE: According to a report Monday from Axios, President Trump ordered FBI Director Christopher Wray to fire the deputy director, Andrew McCabe. The report says that Director Wray objected to the order and told the president that if McCabe were fired, he’d retire as well. Since the administration was already under fire for jettisoning James Comey from the FBI, the report explains, Trump backed down from his order.)

AMERICAN THINKER

Overwhelmingly, illegals are anti-Trump, anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-patriotic, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, anti-German Americans, anti-draft avoiders (except Bill Clinton), and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America longer than their ancestors.)

https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2018/01/how-federal-workers-spent-their-unexpected-day-off/551180/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: One analyst working in the Government Accountability Office told me in an email that he was mentally preparing himself for a days- or even weeks-long period without pay due to the government shutdown. But now that a deal has been reached, he said, “today just feels like one of the lesser holidays, like Columbus Day.” The analyst, who requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak with the press, said he and his wife spent the afternoon at Costco, stocking up on toilet paper, eggs, and milk. He also split a slice of pizza with his daughter. “All in all, not a bad deal in exchange for congressional inaction,” he told me.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Churchgoers seek a connection to God. But a survey by Addictions.com puts a new twist on what constitutes a “higher power” in the pews. The website — dedicated to helping people with substance abuse — recently conducted a nonscientific, online survey on drugs and church with responses from more than 1,000 people who said they “regularly use drugs.” Among the findings: More than 3 percent of Protestants responding to the survey said they’ve bought “illicit substances at their place of worship.” Roughly one in five Catholics relayed being “high” at mass “at least once.” Catholics and Protestants were found “more likely to have used marijuana” than atheists. But agnostics — those not sure whether there’s a God — reported the most drug use. The stated goal of the survey: raise awareness about the help available for addictions. Another survey is planned on other faiths, including Hinduism, Islam and Judaism.)

http://www.dailyherald.com/business/20180114/20k-or-more-to-every-baby-born-in-the-united-states-heres-how-it-would-work
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Under the Baby Bonds proposal, kids of incredibly rich parents such as Beyoncé and Jay-Z would get the lowest amount, $500, while babies born into extremely poor families would get the highest amount, $50,000. There would be a sliding scale to determine how much each baby would receive based on the parents’ wealth. A typical middle-class baby would receive around $20,000. Forget baby showers. There’s a proposal to give every newborn in the United States a “Baby Bond” account with somewhere between $500 to $50,000 in cash. Neither the kids nor their parents would be able to touch the money until the child turned 18. Then the young adult could spend the trust fund on attending college, buying a home or starting a business. The whole point of Baby Bonds would be to dramatically lessen wealth inequality in the United States, according to the economists who came up with the idea, Darrick Hamilton of the New School and William Darity of Duke University.)

(FROM THE EDITORIAL: A man’s home may be his castle, but even castles are governed these days by zoning codes and other local ordinances. An Illinois man named Greg Schiller had that lesson reinforced after he opened his basement to homeless people, letting them sleep there overnight during the recent deep freeze that enveloped much of the country. No way, said city officials in Elgin, the Chicago suburb where he lives. They shut down Mr. Schiller’s “slumber parties,” as he has called them, on grounds that they violated a fistful of municipal regulations, among them ventilation and fire-safety requirements.)

http://illinoisreview.typepad.com/illinoisreview/2018/01/cook-county-gop-chairman-slams-chicago-gop-for-endorsing-ives-over-rauner.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Thursday Illinois Review reported that the Chicago GOP held a straw poll among the group’s committeemen, and Republican challenger Jeanne Ives won over incumbent Governor Bruce Rauner with a 17 to 3 vote. That news prompted an agitated response from Cook County GOP chairman Sean Morrison posted on the Cook County GOP website. In that announcement, Morrison condemned Chicago Republican Party chairman Chris Cleveland as holding the straw poll with the expressed intent to “usurp the statutory authority” of the Cook County Republican Party and Morrison himself by “illegitimately claiming the authority to appoint individuals to the position of Ward Committeeman.” That’s not the whole story, Cleveland told Illinois Review via email after reading Morrison’s post.)

https://www.theblaze.com/news/2018/01/11/pew-research-center-report-us-divided-on-medias-ability-to-report-political-issues-fairly
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A report by Pew Research Center published Thursday found that of 38 countries polled, the U.S. is the most divided in public opinion regarding news organizations’ ability to report political issues fairly. While 78 percent of Americans say the news media “should never favor one political party over another . . . there are sharp political differences in views of the media – with the largest gap among Americans.” The division runs along partisan lines, with Republicans expressing the highest levels of dissatisfaction toward the media. The study found that only 21 percent of Trump supporters “believe the media is doing a worse job covering politics than the supporters of any of the other international political leaders in countries surveyed.” The report builds on a May 2017 report by Pew, which revealed that 89 percent of Democrats believe that journalists’ role as a watchdog “keeps leaders in line,” compared to only 42 percent of Republicans. The report determined that Americans turn to news outlets along partisan lines. Right-leaning audiences insist that there is a liberal bias in the media, to which left-leaning audiences insist that there is only the perception of bias, that it is a conservative fabrication. Liberal audiences tend not only to deny a liberal bias, but to insist that there is no bias at all. The insistence on a liberal bias in the media comes mostly from conservative audiences, although, according to a 2017 Gallup poll, “[n]early half of Democrats agree that the media favors their own party, which means most Americans think reporters have a liberal predilection.” They do. The majority of journalists are liberal, 34 percent, compared to the 7 percent that identify as conservative. And a disproportionate amount, 50 percent, identify as Independent. Liberals tend to view the news media as neutral, while conservatives tend to view the news media as slanted against them. But I’m sure none of this is news to you.)

SUBURBAN CHICAGOLAND
— Cook County GOP Chairman calls out illegitimate actions by Chicago GOP Club leaders Cook County GOP Chairman calls out illegitimate actions by Chicago GOP Club leaders Cook County Republican Chairman Sean M. Morrison criticized actions by Chicago Republican Party leader Chris Cleveland, accusing him of usurping powers and challenging his right to represent region’s Republicans
https://suburbanchicagoland.com/2018/01/11/cook-county-gop-chairman-calls-illegitimate-actions-chicago-gop-club-leaders/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: It has come to the attention of Cook County Republican Central Committee Chairman Sean M. Morrison that the Chicago Republican Party led by Mr. Chris Cleveland recently held a meeting of its club. Mr. Cleveland’s expressed intent for this meeting was to usurp the statutory authority of the Cook County Republican Party and its Chairman by illegitimately claiming the authority to appoint individuals to the position of Ward Committeeman. Chairman Morrison believes that it’s imperative to publicly clarify that the Chicago Republican Party is a private club and holds no statutory authority within the Cook County Republican Central Committee. Thus, Mr. Cleveland has no authority to make any appointments to the position of Ward Committeeman and to indicate otherwise is pure deception. “I recognize that Mr. Cleveland plays a very prominent role as Campaign Chair for the Jeanne Ives campaign for governor and he has a right to support the candidate of his choice. But, that does not mean that he can manipulate the use and influence of his role as Chairman of the Chicago Republican Club to mislead individuals into the belief that he can appoint them to the position of Ward Committeeman. His sole intent was to manufacture some sort of perceived endorsement for his candidate Jeanne Ives,” said Chairman Morrison. Mr. Cleveland’s actions are nothing more than a blatant exploitation of his club and its By-Laws and are eerily reminiscent of the actions taken by former DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz when she helped rig the DNC support and primary election in favor of Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders. Mr. Cleveland’s unilateral actions are an attempt to de-legitimize the vote and influence of every single Republican Committeeman in Cook County. Deputy Chairman Aaron Del Mar added, “Mr. Cleveland’s deceitful actions have raised grave concern from numerous legitimate Republican Committeemen throughout Cook County. These actions appear to indicate a level of desperation on behalf of the Jeanne Ives campaign for governor. I’m hopeful Jeanne Ives had no previous knowledge of this rigged endorsement stunt and I call on her to publicly disavow Chris Cleveland and the devious actions he took on behalf of her campaign. I would also hope that this is not an indication on how she would govern, if elected.” Chairman Morrison has asked Deputy Chairman Aaron Del Mar to make himself available for media inquiries to address this issue on behalf of the Cook County Republican Central Committee. Aaron can be contacted at: 773-718-1444 (P).)

ILLINOIS CENTER RIGHT COALITION
— DIERSEN HEADLINE: ICRC sends a bulk email to its former members and to the Illinois State Board of Elections. I should write book about those who blame me for all the problems that ICRC, TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois, Wheaton Chamber of Commerce, Milton Township Republican Central Committee, American Association of Political Consultants, etc. have had, are having, and will have. These same disgusting scapegoaters blame me and my GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails for all the losses that Republicans have suffered in Illinois since 2000.)
http://illinoiscenterrightcoalition.com/
(THE LETTER: Dear Former ICRC Member, During the November 2017, meeting of the Illinois Center Right Coalition (ICRC) an election was held to select new officers. I, James. C. Mitchell, Jr., was among the slate of new officers elected to revitalize the ICRC. I was elected to and accepted the position of ICRC Chairman with the understanding that I would guide the ICRC through a necessary reorganization process. During the reorganization process it was discovered that the ICRC was disbanded by the state of Illinois on January 11, 2013, for not filing required annual reports with the state of Illinois (see attached file). Because of this omission, the ICRC has not been able to legally conduct business since that time. All attempts to bring the organization current with Federal and state entities have run into roadblocks due to requirements that we provide financials for 2012 forward. Unfortunately, the ICRC cannot produce financials for the past year, let alone the required time period. Since the ICRC is not legally able to receive funds as an organization, nor has been since January 11, 2013, the rightful course of action is to return all funds received during this period. Unfortunately, this task is easier said than done as the ICRC was negligent in maintaining Federal and state mandated records. Additionally, the ICRC has no treasurer’s reports or financial statements of any kind indicating who funds were received from at any point during the organization’s history. Therefore, we are requesting that anyone who has provided a check to the ICRC at any point since January 11, 2012, please respond to this email with a PDF copy (front and back) of said check, or mail a copy to: ICRC, PO Box 586, Lake Villa, IL, 60046-0586. This will allow us to return your funds as well as to assist us in auditing the organization’s financial history. If by chance anyone has any historical financial reports for the ICRC, we would of course be delighted to receive copies of those as well. At this point the future of the ICRC is uncertain. The short-term plan is to refund individuals any payments received by the ICRC while it was operating illegally, and to attempt to reconstruct the organizations financial history so that the organization can be legally registered with the necessary Federal and state agencies. Thank you for your understanding and your help in rectifying this situation. Please note that all future ICRC meetings, to include the meeting scheduled on January 13, in Elgin, are cancelled until this situation has been resolved.)

https://www.wsj.com/articles/facebook-considers-prioritizing-trustworthy-news-sources-in-feed-1515714244
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Facebook FB -0.04% Inc. is broadly overhauling the way it presents news and information on its platform, as it struggles to address criticism from users and others about the quality of the content shared there and its effect on society. Under planned changes announced Thursday, Facebook will favor posts, photos and videos in the news feed that are shared and discussed among users and their friends over those posted by businesses and news organizations—a likely blow to companies that rely on Facebook to reach customers. The company also is weighing another major change that could eventually elevate media outlets deemed more trustworthy compared with publishers considered less credible, people familiar with the matter said. Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg on Thursday called the initial move “a major change in how we build Facebook” that would decrease how much time users spend on the platform and hurt publisher traffic, but ultimately make users happier and boost Facebook’s business. The other potential change would involve ranking news outlets based on some measures of credibility, such as public polling about news outlets, and whether readers are willing to pay for news from particular publishers, the people familiar with the matter said. Such variables would inform the Facebook algorithms that determine which publishers’ posts are pushed higher in the feed, one of the people said. Such a move would thrust Facebook into an even more active role in deciding what content is acceptable on its site—a role that makes some publishers uneasy. The company hasn’t decided whether to proceed with that shift, and it may choose not to do so. This potential change, as well as the steps outlined Thursday, illustrate Mr. Zuckerberg’s willingness to make big changes and consider ideas he previously resisted to address the growing risks looming over the company that he co-founded 14 years ago and that is now used by more than two billion people.)

According to the report, the IRS estimates that it will need $495 million in the 2018 and 2019 fiscal years to implement the new tax law, which would include “programming and systems updates, answering taxpayer phone calls, drafting and publishing new forms and publications, revising regulations and issuing other guidance, training employees on the new law and guidance, and developing the system’s capacity to verify compliance with new eligibility and documentation requirements.” “I see daily the consequences of reduced funding of the IRS and the choices made by the agency in the face of these funding constraints,” national taxpayer advocate Nina E. David Norquist, the Pentagon’s comptroller, said Wednesday that the first steps of the long-awaited Pentagon audit are already underway. The audit itself will cost $367 million in FY18 — covering fees for the independent public accounting firms ($181 million) and infrastructure to support the audits ($186 million). That will help fund the roughly 1,200 auditors who will support the 24 individual audits that make up the overall effort.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— States exploring tax changes in response to federal overhaul – AP
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/sns-bc-us–tax-overhaul-states-20180106-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In New Jersey and California, top Democratic officials want to let people make charitable contributions to the state instead of paying certain taxes. In Connecticut and New York, officials are exploring a switch from income taxes to new ones on payroll. A few governors have even called for tax cuts. The ideas are bubbling up as state lawmakers begin their 2018 sessions and assess the effects of the Republican tax overhaul that President Donald Trump signed into law last month. Lawmakers and governors in some states are grappling with how to protect their constituents. . . In high-tax states, officials have been focused on protecting taxpayers from the impact of a new $10,000 cap on deductions for paying state and local taxes. In California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey and New York, more than one-third of tax filers claim the state and local tax deduction on federal taxes; the average deduction in each state is over $15,000.)

http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20180107/news/301079975/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: President Donald Trump says he’s done campaigning for insurgents challenging incumbent Republican members of Congress. Trump told reporters after meeting GOP House and Senate leaders at Camp David on Saturday that he’s planning a robust schedule of campaigning for the 2018 midterm elections and that includes involvement in the Republican primaries. He’ll campaign for incumbents, he said, and “anybody else that has my kind of thinking.” But after a stinging loss in Alabama, Trump said he’s done supporting challengers, declaring: “I don’t see that happening.” Trump had supported Roy Moore after he won the GOP primary. Moore’s defeat in the subsequent special election handed Democrats another seat in the Senate.)

— Few specifics are available on progressive tax amendment – Jim Dey (DIERSEN: What about retirement income? My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes are beyond furious that my Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) pension and my Social Security are not subject to state income tax. In today’s dollars, since 1997, CSRS has paid me $1,050,246 and since 2010, Social Security has paid me $14,964.)
http://www.news-gazette.com/news/local/2018-01-07/jim-dey-few-specifics-are-available-progressive-tax-amendment.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: He proposed levying a 6 percent tax rate on incomes of $1 million or more, a roughly 20 percent increase for that category of income earners. At the same time, he would levy a 1 percent tax rate on incomes between $2,500 and $24,999, a 2.25 percent rate on incomes from $25,000 to $44,999, a 3.75 percent rate on incomes from $45,000 to $149,999 and a 4.95 percent rate on incomes from $150,000 to $999,999. But there’s a problem with Daiber’s tax proposal — it’s a bait and switch. He gives the impression that most people will get a tax cut and only a few — “the millionaires and billionaires” — will get a tax increase. That won’t work because backers of a progressive income tax desperately want billions of dollars more in revenue. Under Daiber’s proposal, the state would generate less revenue than it receives under the current flat tax. The problem? Illinois doesn’t have enough people with annual incomes of $1 million and up. According to the Illinois Department of Revenue 2013 tax figures, about 32,000 individuals or families out of 6 million tax filers reported annual incomes between $1 million and $25 million. They paid $2.5 billion of the $16.9 billion in income tax revenue that year. Meanwhile, the Illinois Policy Institute reports that in 2015, just 18 percent of taxpayers earned $100,000-plus. They paid 84 percent of all state income taxes.)

What if the majority of the voters in your precinct, in your municipality, in your township/ward, in your county, and in Illinois want taxpayers like you to pay higher taxes?)
http://thehill.com/policy/finance/367696-blue-state-officials-plot-response-to-gop-tax-law
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Elected officials in high-tax Democratic-leaning states are looking at creative ways to prevent the new tax law from raising their residents’ bills. The new law, which passed in December with only Republican votes, caps the state and local tax (SALT) deduction at $10,000. GOP lawmakers said they hoped that would motivate high-tax states such as New York, New Jersey and California to curb their own taxes and spending. But politicians in blue states view the tax law as an attack on them, and are pushing back. “We sort of have two choices. One choice is to step back and let this happen to us. Or the other is to get into the arena and fight like heck,” New Jersey Gov.-elect Phil Murphy (D) said at a news conference Friday. “And this is New Jersey after all.” The tax law is just one of the ways Republicans have taken aim at Democratic-leaning cities and states in recent months.)

I started thinking about that this past week, when Orrin Hatch, the seven-term Republican senator from Utah, announced that he wouldn’t run for re-election this year. He joins two Republican colleagues, Bob Corker and Jeff Flake, in announcing retirement. Word is that Steve Bannon is also very likely to have a lot more free time on his hands soon, especially since the billionaire Mercer family has cut off his funding, one of the few things that has kept him relevant. So even though they didn’t ask, I’m going to offer some pointers.)

http://www.sj-r.com/news/20180101/2018-brings-governors-race-other-big-contests-in-illinois
(FROM THE ARTICLE: All statewide offices will be on the ballot on Nov. 8, but no contest will be as fevered — or costly — as the governor’s race. Democratic candidates including billionaire J.B. Pritzker, wealthy businessman Chris Kennedy and state Sen. Daniel Biss are seeking their party’s nomination in the March 20 primary, when Rauner also faces a GOP primary challenge from conservative state Rep. Jeanne Ives. Already, the candidates are raising and spending money at a pace that could make this the most expensive governor’s race in U.S. history. Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s unexpected announcement that she won’t seek a fifth term created a crowded Democratic primary for that office. Some congressional races also will be closely watched. Several Democrats are vying for the seat held by U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez of Chicago, who’s retiring. And Republican Congressman Peter Roskam will try to hold his seat representing suburban Chicago, a district Democrats are eyeing as one of the party’s best chances to gain a seat in the U.S. House after voters there supported Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump in 2016.)

DAILY CALLER
— Trump Really Is Draining The Swamp – ROBERT DONACHIE (DIERSEN: One could say that Trump supporters promote hatred of past, present, and future federal employees. How should past, present, and future federal employees react to that?)
http://dailycaller.com/2017/12/31/trump-really-is-draining-the-swamp/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The federal workforce grew sizably under both former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, ballooning from roughly 1.8 million employees in 2000 to 2.14 million at the height of Obama’s presidency. Trump’s administration is moving at a historically slow pace in filling political positions at federal agencies, whether it be part of his “draining the swamp” promise or a slow movement on the part of the Senate is unclear. The Senate has only confirmed 240 of the over 600 political appointments that are supposed to help carry out the administration’s agenda.)

— Congress’s Gift to Blue-State Taxpayers Limiting the SALT deduction will enforce fiscal discipline. – Alfredo Ortiz (DIERSEN: Those who dominate Illinois talk and/or act like they want to drive out of Illinois those who itemize their deductions. Most commonly, those who itemize their deductions spend lots of money on mortgage interest, real estate tax, state income tax, medical and dental expenses, contributions to 501(c)(3) organizations, and/or job-related education.)
https://www.wsj.com/articles/congresss-gift-to-blue-state-taxpayers-1514823290
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The great American migration out of high-tax states like New York and Illinois may be about to accelerate. The tax reform enacted last month caps the deduction for state and local taxes, known as SALT, at $10,000. This means millions of people will finally feel the full tax burden imposed by state and local politicians. When the SALT shield shrinks, so may people’s willingness to put up with these high taxes. Such states already are losing population, and new Census Bureau data—released the same day tax reform passed the House and Senate—shows the continued migration. Of the seven states that grew the fastest between July 1, 2016, and July 1, 2017, four (Nevada, Washington, Florida and Texas) have no income tax, and the other three (Idaho, Utah and Arizona) have low taxes. On the flip side, high-tax states like New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Illinois and Rhode Island either lost residents or stagnated. Pennsylvania quietly became the fifth-most-populous state in the nation, displacing Illinois. When people move, they take their money with them. The five high-tax states listed above have lost more than $200 billion of combined adjusted gross income since 1992, according to the website HowMoneyWalks.com, which aggregates IRS data. In contrast, Nevada, Washington, Florida and Texas gained roughly the same amount. If politicians in high-tax states want to prevent this migration from becoming a stampede, they will have to deliver fiscal discipline.)
