(FROM THE ARTICLE: City Council plans to vote on the 2020 budget and the creation of funding source for a reparations fund at Monday’s meeting. . .Also allocated in the budget is a reparations fund, which would receive $250,000 from a recreational cannabis tax. The council is expected to vote on the creation of the fund, which would go toward support for the city’s black residents, though the city has not outlined specifics. Some aldermen at the Nov. 18 council meeting encouraged residents to donate to the fund, in addition to the city’s pledged $10 million. “All amounts are accepted — including $10 million,” said Ald. — Journalists Who Exposed Planned Parenthood’s ‘Baby Body Parts’ Trade Found Guilty – Phelim McAleer
https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-journalists-who-exposed-planned-parenthoods-baby-body-parts-trade-found-guilty
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Peter Breen, a lawyer for Mr. Daleiden, said the judgement is a direct threat to undercover journalism in California and across the country. “Undercover Journalism now comes with a $2 million price tag,” he said. Mr. Breen blamed Judge William Orrick’s directions to the jury for the verdict. “The judge should have told them that Mr. Daleiden’s filming was protected by the First Amendment. Instead, he told them the First Amendment is no defense, which is outrageous and not the law. When you have a series of unfair rulings, you can’t expect a fair verdict,” Breen said.)

THOMAS MOORE SOCIETY
— Thomas More Society Will Fight Multimillion Dollar RICO Judgment in David Daleiden’s Baby Body Parts Exposé Trial
http://www.standardnewswire.com/news/4991215836.html
(FROM THE PRESS RELEASE: “This lawsuit is payback for David Daleiden exposing Planned Parenthood’s dirty business of buying and selling fetal parts and organs,” declared lead Thomas More Society defense attorney Peter Breen. “We intend to seek vindication for David on appeal. His investigation into criminal activity by America’s largest abortion provider utilized standard investigative journalism techniques, those applied regularly by news outlets across the country.” “David’s findings revealed practices so abhorrent that the United States Congress issued criminal referrals for Planned Parenthood, and numerous states and elected officials have moved to strip it of funding,” continued Breen. “Rather than face up to its heinous doings, Planned Parenthood chose to persecute the person who exposed it. I am fully confident that when this case has run its course, justice will prevail, and David will be vindicated.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: One hundred dollars a month. This was how much money my financial adviser told me to save, back when I was in my 20s and 30s. “Damn it, Jerry, if you do this you’ll have a retirement nest egg waiting for you 30 years from now,” George Wilson told me sternly. He was one of my father’s poker buddies who once sold me a life insurance policy. He was intimidating and outspoken. He also was 100% right. Wilson tried slipping me a proverbial ace in the hole for my losing hand of cards in life. I was too stupid and shortsighted to accept it. After a few years of scraping together $100 each month to pay into this seemingly mythical retirement fund, I stopped contributing. I eventually cashed it in to pay off some credit card bills, telling myself that I couldn’t afford it any longer. It was the cheapest rationalization I could afford back then. At that point in my life, I was earning a meager income in a family food business, I had two young children, and I was already thinking of cashing in my marriage. Putting away $100 a month, every month for 30-plus years, seemed impossible. My wiser self in the future has never forgiven my stupid self from the past. In my younger days, I likely spent $100 a month on “must have” purchases – my Coca-Cola addiction, drive-through junk food, weekend entertainment in Chicago, a massive collection of music cassettes and CDs, you name it. These unnecessary expenditures, in hindsight, have only compounded my anger toward myself. I try to keep this in mind when I now hear about millennials who believe retirement savings is a myth or a rumor they’ve been told by gray-haired geezers like me. What do we know, right? In my 20s, I thought the same thing about “old man Wilson,” who was only in his 40s at the time. He seemed to be in his 70s or 80s. (He’s still around. Please don’t tell him.) Youth has a way of distorting our perception of life. We had more answers than questions. We had more time than money. We had more reasons to not think about getting older, getting unhealthy, or getting prepared for retirement. It all seemed so… impossible, or at least improbable. As if it would never happen.)

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES

Starting in 1966, when I was 18 years old, they made it very clear that they did NOT want me to take any sick days. They hinted/implied/argued/shouted that I should NOT get that benefit for many reasons including I avoided the draft, had good health, was non-poor, had more education, professional certifications and/or licenses than they did, was Republican, was conservative, was Protestant (baptized, raised, and confirmed as a Missouri Synod Lutheran), was 100% German American, my wife had a good job, we gave up trying to have children, we did not adopt, we did not become foster parents, and/or my ancestors have been in America since 1844. https://www.dupageco.org/Content.aspx?id=61551
(FROM THE PRESS RELEASE: The DuPage County Board voted 10-8 on Tuesday to prohibit the sale of recreational cannabis in unincorporated areas. The Illinois Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act, which Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed on June 25, allows the County to pass an ordinance prohibiting the location of cannabis businesses. The Board determined the operation of cannabis businesses presents adverse impacts on the health, safety, and welfare of residents and additional costs and burdens on law enforcement and the judiciary system. The Board did vote, however, to assess the maximum permitted 3 percent sales tax on cannabis sales made at businesses located in DuPage County municipalities in order to help offset increased public safety costs.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: “My opposition to this really comes from public health reasons,” board member Tim Elliott said. “The public health data is clear.” The Glen Ellyn Republican said marijuana legalization will create a variety of problems, including increased cannabis use and addiction. He said the county shouldn’t profit from such sales. Elliott said Illinois lawmakers who supported legalizing marijuana “want county boards to take a share of their responsibility” by allowing such sales. “Springfield is offering us a piece of the action in exchange for our share of responsibility for what I’m certain is going to be a public health problem,” he said. “Let’s not be a party to this.” Still, six of the county board’s seven Democrats and two (Hart and Healy) and of its 11 Republicans voted against the prohibition and in favor of the sale.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: “The state of Illinois has made it a choice,” said Robert Larsen, R-Wheaton. “The state of Illinois has made a lot of bad choices over the years but we here in DuPage County have made better choices. “We can’t control the fact that they have chosen to legalize this drug everywhere in the state, but we can send the message to our constituents that we don’t want more sales of this in our county.” . . . “If you really believe that legalization is not going to result in greater accessibility and greater illicit use for underage users, please come see me because I have a bridge to sell you,” board member Tim Elliot, R-Glen Ellyn said. “These public health issues are going to happen … and yet we’re considering becoming part of this. Why?” . . . DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin did not vote on this issue, but after the meeting said he likely would have sided with the ban were it necessary for him to make a choice. “We had a healthy, robust debate and the majority says, you know, not now,” Cronin said.)
