CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— FRONT PAGE TOP OF FOLD IN NAPERVILLE SUN WITH COLOR PICTURE: Customers at Naperville restaurant say their group was asked to move because another customer ‘doesn’t want black people sitting near him’ – SUZANNE BAKER (DIERSEN: Of course, Trump-haters want everyone to assume that this “regular customer” is a Trump supporter, Protestant, conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owner, German American, draft avoider, and his ancestors have been in America for a long time.)

— Dear millennials, now is the time to invest in your unexpected future – JERRY DAVICH (DIERSEN: According to my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes who saved far less for their retirement than I did, I was able to do save more for my retirement because I avoided the draft, the federal government grossly overpaid me, I had good health, I paid less federal income tax by itemizing, my wife had a good job, we gave up trying to have children, we did not adopt, we did not become foster parents, I did not give lots of money to churches like they did, etc.)
https://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/post-tribune/opinion/ct-ptb-davich-saving-for-retirement-while-young-st-1030-20191029-ljhsqft2drg2veqxg2zxbmmpmy-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: One hundred dollars a month. This was how much money my financial adviser told me to save, back when I was in my 20s and 30s. “Damn it, Jerry, if you do this you’ll have a retirement nest egg waiting for you 30 years from now,” George Wilson told me sternly. He was one of my father’s poker buddies who once sold me a life insurance policy. He was intimidating and outspoken. He also was 100% right. Wilson tried slipping me a proverbial ace in the hole for my losing hand of cards in life. I was too stupid and shortsighted to accept it. After a few years of scraping together $100 each month to pay into this seemingly mythical retirement fund, I stopped contributing. I eventually cashed it in to pay off some credit card bills, telling myself that I couldn’t afford it any longer. It was the cheapest rationalization I could afford back then. At that point in my life, I was earning a meager income in a family food business, I had two young children, and I was already thinking of cashing in my marriage. Putting away $100 a month, every month for 30-plus years, seemed impossible. My wiser self in the future has never forgiven my stupid self from the past. In my younger days, I likely spent $100 a month on “must have” purchases – my Coca-Cola addiction, drive-through junk food, weekend entertainment in Chicago, a massive collection of music cassettes and CDs, you name it. These unnecessary expenditures, in hindsight, have only compounded my anger toward myself. I try to keep this in mind when I now hear about millennials who believe retirement savings is a myth or a rumor they’ve been told by gray-haired geezers like me. What do we know, right? In my 20s, I thought the same thing about “old man Wilson,” who was only in his 40s at the time. He seemed to be in his 70s or 80s. (He’s still around. Please don’t tell him.) Youth has a way of distorting our perception of life. We had more answers than questions. We had more time than money. We had more reasons to not think about getting older, getting unhealthy, or getting prepared for retirement. It all seemed so… impossible, or at least improbable. As if it would never happen.)

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
— Chicago teachers can save 244 unused sick days, retire early under new contract The tentative agreement raises the cap on accrued sick days from 40 to 244; some longtime teachers could use those days to retire a year early and still collect their full pension. – Matthew Hendrickson (DIERSEN: Almost all of my Democrat superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates in the federal government took many more sick days than I did. Starting in 1966, when I was 18 years old, they made it very clear that they did NOT want me to take any sick days. They hinted/implied/argued/shouted that I should NOT get that benefit for many reasons including I avoided the draft, had good health, was non-poor, had more education, professional certifications and/or licenses than they did, was Republican, was conservative, was Protestant (baptized, raised, and confirmed as a Missouri Synod Lutheran), was 100% German American, my wife had a good job, we gave up trying to have children, we did not adopt, we did not become foster parents, and/or my ancestors have been in America since 1844. Nevertheless, they are furious that my Civil Service Retirement System pension is higher because of my many used sick days.)

KANKAKEE DAILY JOURNAL
— Party insiders keep public out of loop – David Giuliani (DIERSEN: What if Wheaton’s recent West District City Council vacancy had been filled by a special election? What if the Daily Herald had published lots of information on the 10 candidates including their demographics, how long they lived in the West District and in Wheaton, their work experience, their education, their professional certifications and licenses, etc.? What if there had been candidate forums?)
https://www.daily-journal.com/news/local/david-giuliani-party-insiders-keep-public-out-of-loop/article_b37e8b84-fbf4-11e9-b989-27e219b5c676.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The process to appoint a replacement for state Sen. Toi Hutchinson, D-Olympia Fields, is veiled in secrecy. That’s the way it usually works. Under state law, local party leaders have the right to fill legislative vacancies. Unlike other states, no special elections are held. Because Hutchinson is a Democrat, her party will choose a successor. When asked about it, a local Democratic Party leader revealed there were four applicants for the position but declined to identify them. I’m told Hutchinson’s last day is Sunday. After she resigns, the state party has 30 days to appoint a replacement. Both Democrats and Republicans typically cloak the entire appointment process in secrecy. However, Kankakee County Democratic Chairman John Willard said his party will hold a public meeting, although constituents will be barred from asking questions of candidates. I’m glad a public meeting is planned, but I think candidates should field questions from prospective constituents — something like the interview process for presidential candidates at Kankakee Community College. Why can’t we hold special elections when legislators resign? Both Democrats and Republicans warn that such elections cost taxpayers a lot, while private appointment processes cost practically nothing. That’s an easy argument for them to make because they’re the ones filling vacancies. But it could be argued the costs of special elections are worth the benefits to democracy. Most vacancies occur when legislators resign. The most understandable reason is health. But many others quit because they find higher-paying jobs, often as lobbyists. Hutchinson is leaving to take a $220,000-a-year job in Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s administration. For years, I have suspected that so many legislators resign in Illinois because party insiders get to appoint replacements. It would be harder to quit mid-term if they knew that taxpayers would foot the bill for a special election. I decided to see how Illinois compares against Iowa, which holds special elections when vacancies occur. I checked on how members of each state’s senate got into office in the first place.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— HARDCOPY LETTER TITLE: Mayor Lightfoot, stop scorning Trump – Tim Schneider, Illinois Republican Party chairman, Chicago (DIERSEN: This letter to the editor, and others like it, should be in the inbox of a) every Republican Precinct Committeeman/Captain in Illinois, b) every Republican Party leader in Illinois, c) every Republican elected official in Illinois, etc. GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails continue to fill the tremendous Republican communication void in Illinois.)
https://www.chicagotribune.com/opinion/letters/ct-letters-vp-110119-20191031-3bddlghmdbdtjdgjpzgqx27e3u-story.html
(FROM THE LETTER TO THE EDITOR: President Donald Trump came to Chicago on Monday and told the truth about our dysfunctional government — and Mayor Lori Lightfoot and the news media got the vapors, gasping that he insulted Chicago and its wonderful citizens. Fake news — again! I was with President Trump over lunch, and listened to his candid and often very humorous assessment of challenges and opportunities for our nation. He demonstrated a grasp of world events that was remarkable, and he laid out his strategy and assessments in plain, direct language. He started with Chicago, “this beautiful place that’s run so poorly.” He recounted his call to the mayor and offer to work together — and shrugged at the silence since. He expressed heartbreak at the ongoing violence in too many neighborhoods, pointing out that it should be inexcusable for some of us not to be better protected by our government. He pointed out how he supported the members of the Chicago Police Department as he mocked the showboating by police Superintendent Eddie Johnson. I witnessed firsthand his rapport with rank-and-file officers and their support for this president. Everything he said reflected a concern for the people of Chicago and a love of this great city, even as he scorned weak leadership. Mere days after the superintendent was found asleep in his car at a stop sign, must we all extol him despite the city’s high crime rate and his evident failures of leadership? Chicago is a wonderful city, but the people of the city and all the amenities it offers, are separate and distinct from our city government. Chicago is great, but our lousy government drags it down. For example, during CTU’s 10-plus-day strike, students languished, once-in-lifetime sporting experiences were missed, as teachers danced to Michael Jackson tunes. And over what? Mayor Lightfoot and the functionally insolvent Chicago Public Schools offered teachers $100,000, along with Cadillac pension and health benefits, for nine months of work each year — as an opening bid! There’s nothing here that should be criticized? So, please give it a rest, Mayor Lightfoot: You should embrace the Trump administration and seek help for our problems. Instead of looking for ways to fight the president, why not sit with him and share ideas on how to improve our home? If by working together you improve or save one life, then you’ve made our great city even better.)
— Twitter’s political ad ban is disingenuous – LEONID BERSHIDSKY (DIERSEN: What if I sought/accepted political ads on www.gopillinois.com and in GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails? Would the candidates in contested races on the March 17, 2020 Republican primary ballot in my precinct take out ads? Of course, I would only accept ads that defend/advance the RNC platform and the IRP platform. In the past, GOPUSA ILLINOIS has taken out ads in IRP, DCRCC, and MTRCC publications. — Make These Tax Moves for 2019 Before It’s Too Late Looking to lower your tax bill? Here are a dozen steps to take as the end of the year approaches. – Laura Saunders (DIERSEN: Trump should increase the $10,000 SALT cap to $20,000 for married filing jointly because the SALT cap discourages marriage and homeownership.)
https://www.wsj.com/articles/make-these-tax-moves-for-2019-before-its-too-late-11572600606
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The most common itemized deductions are for state and local taxes (SALT), charitable donations and mortgage interest. Now that Congress has limited the SALT deduction to $10,000 per return both for single and married joint filers, it’s often easier for singles than couples to benefit from itemizing. For example, a married couple who deducts the limit of $10,000 of SALT needs more than $14,400 of other deductions to benefit from itemizing for 2019, because their standard deduction is $24,400. But a single filer who deducts $10,000 of SALT only needs other write-offs totaling more than $2,200, because his standard deduction is $12,200.)

— Views differ on getting things done under ethics cloud – Bernard Schoenburg (DIERSEN: Government is nasty. Politics is nasty. Have you been put under an ethics cloud? In 1974, when I was a 25 year old GS-11 (currently $68,897/year) IRS employee, I was one of an extremely few IRS employees who was not a Democrat, minority, female, veteran, non-Protestant, and/or non-German American. My IRS superiors were under tremendous pressure a) to hire, retain, and promote young Democrat minorities and young Democrat females and b) to make way for them by getting rid of their employees who were Republican, White, male, and/or non-veteran who had not made GS-13 (currently $98,198) by age 25, GS-14 (currently $116,040) by age 30, GS-15 (currently $136,495) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service (currently $165,500) by age 40. To get rid of me, and to retaliate against me for complaining about political affiliation discrimination and reverse discrimination, my Democrat IRS superiors put me under an ethics cloud. They hinted/implied/argued/shouted that my travel vouchers were fraudulent. SEE: https://www.gao.gov/products/463866 Of course, that ended whatever IRS career that I might have had. NEW YORK TIMES
— DISGUSTING, TRAGIC: In Virginia Suburbs, Republicans Sound a Lot Like Democrats The off-year state legislative elections next Tuesday will test whether Republicans can appeal to anti-Trump voters by running on issues that Democrats usually espouse. – Reid J. Epstein (DIERSEN: Political parties exist to help elect candidates who can/will defend/advance their platform. If you do not defend/advance the Republican Party platform, you should not seek or hold any kind of government or political office as a Republican.)
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/10/31/us/politics/virginia-elections-republicans.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: As Glenn Davis seeks a fourth term in Virginia’s House of Delegates, he is going door to door with campaign literature touting his role in expanding Medicaid, his efforts to address gun violence and his support for L.G.B.T.Q. anti-discrimination legislation. There’s a photo of him with the state’s Democratic governor, Ralph Northam. Yet Mr. Davis is a Republican. He voted with his party to adjourn a special legislative session on gun control that Mr. Northam called this summer — 90 minutes after it began. When he campaigned for lieutenant governor in 2017, he said he was “running to do exactly what Donald Trump did in Washington.” Now, he is among a coterie of Republicans who are campaigning on issues long identified with Democrats ahead of Tuesday’s elections for the Virginia legislature, shifting away from a Republican base that in the age of Trump can no longer win suburban elections on its own. “We have a little bit of a messaging issue, we do,” Mr. Davis said in an interview this week.)
— Lots of Job Hunting, but No Job, Despite Low Unemployment Even with the strongest labor market in half a century, getting work after losing a job can still be a challenge. – Patricia Cohen (DIERSEN: I should write a book about my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes who hint/imply/argue/shout that the following took adverse actions against me because I am a White supremacist, Nazi, KKK member, hater, racist, sexist, bigot, and even worse things: my Democrat superiors in the federal government and the leaders of the Milton Township Republican Central Committee, TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois, Wheaton Chamber of Commerce, Illinois Center Right Coalition, American Association of Political Consultants Midwest Chapter, Wheaton, Milton Township, DuPage County, Illinois, etc. Better yet, I should sue them.)

— Americans Trust Local News. That Belief Is Being Exploited. A growth in impostor local news that promotes ideological agendas. – Brendan Nyhan (DIERSEN: Diersen fully discloses everything about him and about his GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails. Of course, Diersen’s critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes use that information against Diersen and against his GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails. Diersen should write a book about his critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes. Diersen should focus on those who claim to be religious, conservative, and/or Republican.)
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/10/31/upshot/fake-local-news.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: All of them originate with a company called Locality Labs L.L.C., which created similar networks of questionable local websites in Illinois and Maryland, and state and local business and legal sites around the country. There’s little information about these sites. They typically lack mastheads, local addresses and clear disclosure of their ownership or revenue sources. Voters could easily become confused about the origins of information from these seemingly innocuous local-sounding outlets. In 2016, for example, websites in the Illinois network interviewed Republican candidates favored by a conservative state political committee, which then paid to mail print newspaper versions of the sites to voters without identifying them as political advertising.)

My Democrat GAO superiors forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, gave me unfair performance expectations and appraisals, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, did not promote me beyond GS-13, got rid of my mentor in 1987, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take a $19,568 (21%) pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980. My Democrat IRS superiors did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, got rid of my mentor in 1975, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974. In 1971 when I was 22 years old, Oldsmobile withdrew a job offer that I had accepted saying that it had just agreed to stop hiring Whites to settle an EEOC complaint. That directly resulted in my accepting a job offer from IRS.)

https://www.dailyherald.com/discuss/20191030/it-wasnt-democracy-that-forced-dangerous-pot-option-on-communities
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Sen. Heather Steans couldn’t be more wrong, answering the question (re: cannabis legalization HB1438) “Is democracy a bad thing?” by stating the bill’s co-authors “don’t think so.” It wasn’t democracy. It was representation gone awry with 104 Illinois legislators speaking on behalf of 12.8 million Illinoisans. With 60 out of 104 legislators having received a total of $630,000 in marijuana lobbyist money in 2017 and 45 voting yes, is it interesting? Yes. Comped? Maybe. Democracy? No. Negotiation and compromise were missing, too, with a 600-page amendment appearing in an unrelated shell bill two days before the General Assembly’s end of session. No public debate. No referendum. No transparency. No democracy. Question: Was HB1438 a bad thing? The real question is “Who ends up paying the price: you, your kids, businesses, communities, teachers, or law enforcement?” Other states teach us the answer: All of the above. The co-authors claim, “Our intent was not to impose cannabis dispensaries on every community.” Will it end up that way? Washington State began with mandated medical, offered opt-out recreational, but finally allocated retail licenses to communities.)

How rich were your parents when you were young? Neither of my outstanding parents attended college. My father was the first of his ancestors to earn a high school diploma. He worked in the office of a nasty chemical plant in Chicago Heights, almost always worked second jobs to pay the family’s bills, and did not buy a new car until he was 45 years old, and it was a bottom of the line 2-door Chevy. Extremely few federal employees make the aforesaid promotion deadlines. What does that say about my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes? It says that they promote political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, and age discrimination. https://www.fedsmith.com/2019/10/29/social-security-wep-fairness/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Social Security Administration released its analysis of the bipartisan Social Security Fairness Act of 2019 (H.R. 141) at the end of September. The legislation would provide a break to older Americans (and their spouses) from the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) which reduces the size of the checks coming from Social Security when a person collects a pension from a job not covered by Social Security. The actuaries at the Social Security Administration estimate that this relief will cost the general taxpayer $33 billion over the next 10 years.)
