He didn’t get many weekends off, or holidays, but it didn’t matter because we never got to live near family. We moved a lot in support of the work. In our 40-plus years of marriage the closest we have ever lived near family was for the one year when we were within a three-hour drive of my family. Otherwise, family has been anywhere from 1,500 miles to 4,000 miles away. My husband could have taken a job in the private sector, working as an engineer as most of his friends did, where the paychecks would have been much greater. No, he was determined that his place was working to serve our government. So, for 40-plus years we have watched everyone around us celebrating holidays with family, enjoying weekends with family, and raking in the dollars of the private sector. We have kept our mouths shut when conversations turned to raking over the federal worker. No more!)

My Democrat employers would have hired and promoted minorities instead of me if they could have. The Democrats who ran the Post Office in 1966, IRS in 1971, and GAO hired me because they could not find a qualified minority who would take the job. IRS promoted me in 1972, 1973, and 1974 instead of minorities because of my performance appraisals and because I was taking graduate evening business courses while none of my minority coworkers were doing that. GAO promoted me in 1986 instead of a minority because of my performance appraisals and because I had earned an MBA in 1976, passed the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979, earned a master’s degree in accounting in 1980, passed the Certified Internal Auditor examination on my first attempt in 1981, and became a licensed CPA in 1981 while none of my minority coworkers had done that. My Democrat GAO superiors forced me to retire when I was 49 in 1997 and replaced me with a minority. He had less work experience than I had, had less education than I had, had one professional certification while I had six, and had no professional license like I did.
