(FROM THE ARTICLE: Just days into her new job as a state representative, Anne Stava-Murray (D-Naperville) has managed to cause a stir among her constituents by characterizing her hometown of Naperville as having “white supremacist policies.” Her remarks about Naperville came in a Facebook response to a post by Felicia Palumbo, who in early January wrote that “Naperville is the biggest bullies … horrible.” “I know and I am so sorry,” Stava-Murray replied on her “Anne Stava-Murray for U.S. Senate” Facebook page. “I actually wanted to move to Oak Park but stayed to work on my community. Our history of white supremacist policies is ongoing.” Stava-Murray did not respond to multiple requests from the DuPage Policy Journal seeking substantiation for her comments—any evidence that Naperville ever, or currently has, white supremacist policies. A white supremacist Naperville was news to Mayor Steve Chirico. “I would never characterize Naperville in this way,” Chirico told the Policy Journal, “but I realize that people have many different perceptions and views.” Twenty-three-year Naperville resident Richard Strawbridge said he couldn’t imagine where Stava-Murray’s comments were coming from. “I’m unaware of any so-called white supremacist policies,” Strawbridge, an attorney, said, “and I’m very active in the local community. “In fact,” he continued, “my impression is that the Naperville community as a whole tries to be very fair and inclusive. Are there individual idiots out there who buck this trend? I’m guessing there are. But to paint the entire community with this broad and defamatory characterization is unworthy of a public official in the absence of some actual evidence. These kinds of comments from any part of the political spectrum only serve to divide people and to impeded constructive dialogue.” Stava-Murray is expected to appear, with other members of the General Assembly, at a legislative forum hosted by the Naperville Area Homeowners Confederation on Saturday at the Naperville Municipal Center. “Every January, we invite our local state senators and representatives to share their views on what we can expect from Springfield in the upcoming year,” an announcement of the event on the Homeowners website said. “With representatives from both sides of the political aisle, and several new faces, this should be a great opportunity to get to better know those who hold our statewide future in their hands.” The 32-year-old freshman lawmaker also announced before even being sworn in as a House member representing the 81st District that she would challenge U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin for his seat in 2020. She supports the full range of progressive causes, according to her Senate campaign website. That includes Medicare-For-All, “actually affordable healthcare reform that doesn’t give away money to for-profit millionaires” and Wear Red for Ed, Families, “proper education funding that doesn’t result in mass striking for teachers to receive basic resources.” She also endorses “providing support for the LGBTQIA community as they have among the highest rates of being murdered by a member of the public.” In November, Stava-Murray defeated incumbent David Olsen (R-Downers Grove) in a close race. A 2016 study published in the IAZ Journal of Development and Migration found reduced numbers of immigrants living in the U.S. illegally in states with mandatory E-Verify. “E-Verify is a much more efficient way to achieve the goals that are claimed for the border wall,” said Edwin Rubenstein, chief researcher for the nonpartisan Negative Population Growth. An estimated 11.3 million immigrants live in the U.S. illegally with about 8 million working, accounting for about 5 percent of the workforce, according to a 2016 analysis by the Pew Research Center. Compared to their share of the workforce, immigrants living in the U.S. illegally were overrepresented in the agriculture (17 percent) and construction (13 percent) sectors, and in the leisure and hospitality industry (9 percent), the center found. The Chamber of Commerce dropped its opposition to E-Verify in 2013 but only with the stipulation that current employees be exempt. The agriculture industry’s reliance on labor from immigrants living in the U.S. illegally has long kept farm state Republicans from backing mandatory E-Verify without a major expansion of guest worker programs. The farm lobby was divided last year when mandatory E-Verify was included in a House GOP package of immigration reforms, the Securing America’s Future Act. The bill was defeated 192-231, with 41 Republicans joining every Democrat in voting no. While making his border security pitch Monday to the American Farm Bureau Foundation’s annual convention in New Orleans, Mr. Trump stressed that a border wall wouldn’t keep out seasonal workers. “I’m going to make that easier for them to come in and to work the farms,” he said. “But we’re keeping the wrong ones out, OK?” But he’s not talking about E-Verify the way he did on the 2016 campaign trail, when he pledged to “strengthen and expand” the program. With Mr. Trump in the White House, the system has gotten short shrift. It was left out of Mr. Trump’s “four pillars” plan to combat illegal immigration. Only a handful of the 565 companies in the Trump Organization, the president’s business empire, have signed up to use E-Verify, according to a Washington Times analysis. At times, Democrats touted E-Verify as a solution. Mr. Schumer last week listed E-Verify among the top measures for border security that he said were “ironically” suspended during the partial government shutdown. “Border patrol agents are going without pay, E-Verify is off-line, immigration cases are on hold, new immigration judges are not being hired,” he said. In 2009, Mr. Schumer said a “biometric-based employer verification system with tough enforcement and auditing is necessary to significantly diminish the job magnet that attracts illegal aliens to the United States.”)

Additionally, the city created the Chicago KeyCity program to help illegal immigrants assimilate into city life. KeyCity acts as a Chicago-specific identification card. According to the sanctuary city supportive resources website: “KeyCity is an optional, valid, government-issued ID card offered to all Chicago residents that will unlock many of the great things our City has to offer. The CityKey card is a photo identification card available to all Chicago residents which will not convey information about national origin or legal status. Stop paying. Facing astronomical bills on real estate that’s now worthless at best, Ford Heights home and business owners have literally nothing to lose by ignoring them. Nearly 1,000 Ford Heights property tax bills totaling $2.3 million weren’t paid last year, according to an analysis of Cook County Treasurer records by South Cook News. That’s in a village of just 2,763 people, 987 households and 729 residential properties. More perspective: the village’s total 2017 budget was $1.8 million. The 996 Ford Heights properties with delinquent taxes will be up for public auction in May; willing buyers can take them off the owners’ hands by making good with Cook County on what’s in arrears. That none will both explains the strategy’s genius, and the tragedy it reveals. In Ford Heights, real estate equity has ceased to exist. The concept of “homeownership” has been explicitly, violently eviscerated in this community. And it’s hardly the only one. Effective Tax Rate: 48% The 20 most expensive properties in Ford Heights in 2017 amounted to $6.6 million in alleged, collective property value and $1.07 million in property taxes due, according to Cook County.
