LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE
— Civil Service Opportunity School – Ben Woodward (DIERSEN: The subject line for the email that transmitted this is “The federal government is hiring conservatives.” I should conduct a similar “Civil Service Opportunity School” in Chicago. Despite my Democrat superiors’ best efforts to waste my career and to get rid of me, despite their getting rid of my first mentor in 1975, despite their getting rid of my second mentor in 1987, and despite my becoming an active member in a class action lawsuit that charged them with reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation in 1988, I nevertheless survived a) for almost 3 years working part-time for the Post Office 1966-1969, b) for almost 9 years working for IRS 1971-1980, and c) for almost 18 years working for GAO 1980-1997. Further, IRS promoted me to GS-9 (currently $55,905) in 1972, to GS-11 (currently $67,638) in 1973, and to GS-12 (currently $81,071) in 1974 and GAO promoted me to GS-13 (currently $96,403) in 1986. In today’s dollars, my ending salary was $125,325.  I have not heard that Trump has disavowed “up-or-out,” so federal employees who are Republican, White, male, and/or non-veteran should still expect to be gotten rid of if they do not make GS-13 (currently $96,403) by age 25, GS-14 (currently $113,920) by age 30, GS-15 (currently $134,000) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service (currently $164,200) by age 40. Extremely few federal employees get promoted that fast. Of course, prospective federal employees should be advised that virtually everyone despises if not hates federal employees, former federal employees, and federal retirees.)

https://chicago.suntimes.com/news/yale-new-haven-connecticut-park-overdoses-synthetic-marijuana-k2/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The number of overdose victims linked to a suspected bad batch of synthetic marijuana has risen to 76 in New Haven, Connecticut, as officials try to determine exactly what sickened people. People on and around the historic New Haven Green near Yale University began falling ill shortly after 8 a.m. Wednesday, and the overdoses continued into Thursday morning. No deaths were reported, and most people brought to hospitals have been discharged, officials said. Symptoms varied. Many victims lost consciousness, officials said. Others vomited. Some just became nauseous or lethargic. City officials said police officers, firefighters and emergency medical personnel will staff a command post on the Green for the time being, and social workers and private health outreach workers will be on hand. Toxicology testing remained incomplete Thursday. Some victims tested positive for the powerful opioid fentanyl, but it appeared most if not all the overdoses were caused only by a potent batch of “K2” synthetic marijuana, said Dr. Kathryn Hawk, an emergency medicine physician and professor at Yale-New Haven Hospital, where many of the victims were treated.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Working on the Luxury Sales team has been amazing, but I think that out of all the projects I’ve done this summer my most fulfilling project has been my Maker Week project. I worked on a Diversity & Inclusion project with interns from a variety of departments to create an employee resource site. The idea came from the fact that many people were unaware of diversity initiatives throughout the company so we thought that creating a database and website to record the diversity initiatives would be a great internal resource and create visibility for the programs. First, we gathered all the information about the diversity initiatives to create the database. Second, we interviewed different people in the company like A.G. Sulzberger, Dean Baquet, Meredith Kopit Levien and other employees involved in diversity initiatives. Lastly, we formatted the website to hold the database, show diversity efforts in recruiting, the newsroom and the business side. We also added a tab for various conferences based on departments. Our showcase at Maker Week was great because employees seemed really interested in the accessibility of the website. It was one of the best projects I’ve worked on and I’m so glad to have been a part of it. I think this project really taught me to be bold in my work. I spoke to all these amazing people by just emailing them and taking a chance and it worked out which was amazing. I’ve also been a diversity advocate throughout my years in school and this project showed me how an idea from one of my passions can become a useful reality. In the fall, I’ll be heading back to Syracuse University to be a Resident Advisor for my last year. I’ll also be a peer facilitator for our first diversity-oriented freshman forum. I want to use the skills I’ve learned in this internship to create something amazing on my campus that is fueled by my passion just like I got to create at The New York Times.)

My Democrat GAO superiors forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, gave me unfair performance expectations and appraisals, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, did not promote me beyond GS-13, got rid of my mentor in 1987, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take an $19,203 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980. (FROM THE ARTICLE: Peter Strzok, the anti-Trump FBI official at the center of the “deep state” allegations, opened a new social media account and posted a link asking for donations from the public after being fired Monday. Here’s how much he’s raised Strzok opened a Twitter account Monday after being fired from the bureau and posted just one message on the social media service. It was a statement explaining how the Deputy Director of the FBI had overruled the decision to punish Strzok with “a 60-day suspension and demotion from supervisory duties was the appropriate punishment.” “This decision should be deeply troubling to all Americans,” the letter continued. The statement made the claim that “the decision to terminate was taken in response to political pressure, and to punish Special Agent Strzok for political speech protected by the First Amendment, not on a fair and independent examination of the facts.” “It is a decision that produces only one winner – those who seek to harm our country and weaken our democracy,” the statement concluded. “The FBI and the American people deserve better.” Strzok included a link to a GoFundMe donation page. After only being active for 12 hours, the donation page reached its goal of $150,000, and increased its goal to $350,000. The page stated that the funds would go towards Strzok’s legal defense and his loss of income. Allies of the president have used the released texts from Strzok to his mistress and FBI lawyer Lisa Page to substantiate claims of an orchestrated effort to defeat the president and his policies. Strok denied that the texts proved anything beyond his personal contempt for the president, and the Inspector General’s report said there was no evidence his personal bias interfered with his professional conduct. Nevertheless, Trump and his supporters say that the bias in Strzok’s texts prove that the special counsel’s Russian investigation was begun under dubious circumstances and should be immediately shut down.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Dozens of White House aides have signed NDAs in exchange for working for Trump, who has long relied on such agreements in his business career, according to current and former administration employees. But NDAs have not been widely used by past administrations outside the transition time between presidents, in part because most legal experts believe such agreements are not legally enforceable for public employees. Copies of Trump NDAs obtained by The Washington Post or described by current and former aides lay out breathtakingly broad prohibitions on behavior and appear to be drawn heavily from similar contracts used in the past by the Trump Organization, the president’s family firm. Under one agreement from the 2016 campaign, signers promised not to “demean or disparage publicly” Trump, his company or any member of his family — and also not to assist any other politician exploring a federal or state office. An agreement circulated in the White House last year barred signers from sharing any information they had learned in the building, according to several aides who signed the document. And the agreement proposed to Manigault Newman after her firing from the White House would have forbidden her from releasing derogatory information not only about Trump and his family, but about Vice President Pence and his family as well.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Despite 2 voter rejections, Wheaton-Warrenville Community Unit School District 200 plans to construct new building — and gets sued over it – Bob Goldsborough (DIERSEN: What are your connections with this issue? My wife and I have paid real estate taxes big time to District 200 since 1978. We have never attended any District 200 school and we have never sent any child to any District 200 school. The District 200 headquarters is in my precinct as well as Whittier Grade School and Edison Middle School. Janet Shaw is a fellow Milton Township Republican Precinct Committeeman. I know Dan Wagner and his wife. I understand that the lawsuit has been assigned to Judge Bonnie Wheaton.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/ct-met-wheaton-school-preschool-project-20180806-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Twice since 2013, voters in the Wheaton and Warrenville area have rejected referendum proposals to raise taxes for the construction of a new preschool. Despite that, the Community Unit School District 200 board is proceeding with building a new Jefferson Early Childhood Center without voter approval through a different form of financing. But now a resident who opposes that measure has sued the district in DuPage County Circuit Court, seeking to halt the plans. Those in favor of building a new childhood center call the current 26,500-square-foot building outdated and note that the district in recent years has renovated or built anew every other school building except Jefferson. Jefferson, which was constructed in 1958 and had 277 pupils as of June, offers a traditional preschool and early childhood intervention for youths with mental or physical disabilities. Voters rejected a referendum proposal for a new Jefferson school in 2013, and again said no in 2017 as part of a much larger, $132 million proposal involving other district schools as well. Board President Jim Vroman said that after the 2017 referendum proposal failed, the district surveyed voters and found that “a substantial majority” supported building a new Jefferson. “That told us that voters were against the tax increase that the referendum would have generated if we had proceeded,” he said. Instead, the board agreed with a suggestion by a district financial adviser to use lease certificates, or secured lease credit financing, to fund a new Jefferson. District 200 would oversee construction of the estimated $15.5 million, 41,544-square-foot building, while Zions Bank would own the building. . .Frequent board critic Janet Shaw, who runs a blog that scrutinizes the district’s finances, long has questioned the legality of using lease certificates and added that “my real problem is that we don’t need (the new school building).” Shaw has filed suit against District 200, demanding a halt to the current plan to finance a new Jefferson. She is seeking a judge to require District 200’s board to submit a proposal for the new school building to the public via a referendum question. “District 200 is tampering with election results right here in DuPage County,” Shaw said. “The district thinks that by using the magic word ‘lease,’ its two failed referendum efforts and the will of the community are somehow erased and it can proceed in an identical manner as if a referendum had been adopted by the community to build and finance a new school.” A district spokesperson declined to comment on the lawsuit. Dan Wagner, a parent and longtime proponent of a new Jefferson, called the existing building outmoded, with some instruction occurring in converted broom closets. He added that the building lacks air conditioning, which precludes some special needs pupils from participating in gym classes.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Northwest Side (NWS) GOP Club, which touts itself as union-friendly, has added another leader with union ties to its ranks. The club recently announced Erin Jones was appointed precinct committeeman for Chicago’s 39th Ward. “Erin is a rock-star and a loyal member of the NWS GOP Club.” club officials said. “As a first-responder family, Erin and her husband serve the community both on and off-duty. We are happy to have her in a leadership role.” As a committeeman, Jones will represent the GOP voters of the precinct at the county level. “I grew up in Rogers Park and moved to the Northwest Side nine years ago,” Jones said. “I’ve been a Chicago police officer for the last 15 years, spending 10 of those years in patrol on the Westside of the City. I actually started working for the city when I was a teenager as a lifeguard in Rogers Park.” Jones is married to a Chicago firefighter and has two daughters. She was appointed by Matt Podgorski, NWS GOP Club chairman and 39th ward committeeman. The NWS GOP Club also has a party planned for Aug. 11 to welcome its card-carrying union members and encourage other union members to explore the club. Republican candidate and Chicago police sergeant Ammie Kessem is slated to attend the event. Kessem is challenging incumbent Rep. LEGAL NEWS LINE
— EEOC Sues The University of Wisconsin System for Age Discrimination – EEOC (DIERSEN: Needless-to-say, EEOC should sue the federal government. The federal government wastes the careers of and gets rid of its employees who are Republican, White, male, and/or non-veteran who the federal government does not promote to GS-13 (currently $96,403) by age 25, GS-14 (currently $113,920) by age 30, GS-15 (currently $134,000) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service (currently $164,200) by age 40.)
https://legalnewsline.com/stories/511525152-u-s-equal-employment-opportunity-commission-eeoc-sues-the-university-of-wisconsin-system-for-age-discrimination
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The University of Wisconsin System violated federal law when it refused to hire a former longtime employee because of her age, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed. According to the EEOC’s lawsuit, Bambi Butzlaff Voss, who was 53 years old and subject to a layoff from her job as a Marketing and Communications Specialist at the University of Wisconsin’s Waukesha campus, applied for six different positions with the University of Wisconsin System’s central office in Madison, including an Associate Marketing and Communications Specialist position. Butzlaff Voss had 25 years of experience performing tasks similar, if not identical, to the ones in the position she applied for. But, because of Butzlaff Voss’s age, the University refused to hire her. Instead, it hired a 23-year-old candidate with less than two years of experience. Such alleged conduct violates the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA). The EEOC sued in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin (EEOC v. Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System, Civil Action No: 3:18-cv-00602) after first trying to settle through its conciliation process. The lawsuit asks the court to order the University to hire Butzlaff Voss and provide back pay as well as pay liquidated damages. The lawsuit also seeks a permanent injunction prohibiting the University from discriminating against future candidates based on their age. “The Age Discrimination in Employment Act has been on the books for five decades,” said Gregory Gochanour, regional attorney for the EEOC’s Chicago District. “The EEOC will make sure employers follow the law, even if it means going to court to get the message across.” Julianne Bowman, district director of the EEOC’s Chicago District, said, “Workers over 40 years of age should have the same opportunities as those workers less than half their age. Ignoring a candidate’s decades of experience relevant to the available job, because of her age, to hire someone with less than two years of experience is illegal discrimination.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The views of rank-and-file Republicans, captured in voter surveys, are nothing less than galling. Let’s lead with a poll conducted by the global marketing firm Ipsos and reported by the Daily Beast. It found that 43 percent of self-identified Republicans said they believed “the president should have the authority to close news outlets engaged in bad behavior.” When asked if President Trump should shut down The Post, CNN and the New York Times, 23 percent of Republicans said yes. These findings are obviously troubling to me as a member of the Fourth Estate. But in the Trump era, assaults on the media come with the territory. More disturbing to me as a citizen is that those Trump cultists would knowingly and willingly give him the power to trample on the First Amendment, destroying an essential part of our democracy that he doesn’t like. That is appalling. They either don’t know or care about what Supreme Court Justice Hugo Black wrote in New York Times Co. v. At the same time, he has annoyed his own party so much with his moderate social positions and budget woes that he barely survived a primary in the spring, inspiring a third-party bid from a conservative candidate. “Bruce Rauner thought he could be Scott Walker when he got elected,” Thomas Bowen, a Democratic strategist and former political director for Mayor Rahm Emanuel of Chicago, said, referring to the Republican governor of Wisconsin. “He forgot that Walker had a supermajority in the state legislature and he did not.” “There was a playbook for how to be a Republican in Illinois that’s been replayed over and over,” Mr. Bowen said. “Be fiscally astute, compromise and don’t pick fights unnecessarily.” Mr. Rauner will face a formidable opponent in J. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/local/gray-matters/article/trump-white-house-media-kaitlan-collins-cnn-13144480.php
(FROM THE ARTICLE: As long as reporters have covered government officials, they’ve sought greater access than the government was willing to allow. The White House excluded a CNN reporter from an international trade announcement with the president of the European Commission on July 25, in apparent retaliation after she shouted unwelcome questions at President Donald Trump during an Oval Office appearance. Many observers viewed this move as an escalation of the Trump administration’s hostility toward journalists. The Washington Post called the decision to exclude CNN’s Kaitlan Collins “highly unusual and possibly unprecedented.” Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., called it “an offense against the First Amendment interests of all of us.” But did the White House actually violate the Constitution? As a media law professor, I regularly remind students that the First Amendment right of access to government officials, records and events is surprisingly uncertain. The First Amendment guarantees all Americans freedom to speak and publish without government interference. It has been broadly interpreted by the Supreme Court to forbid the government from restraining or punishing a speaker based on the content of the speaker’s message. While journalists have a clearly established First Amendment right to publish the news they’ve gathered — even in extreme cases, like the leak of stolen Pentagon documents — it’s much less clear that the First Amendment protects the right to gather the news in the first place. A right to publish, but not a ‘right to gather’? CNN has not indicated that it plans to take any legal action over Collins’ exclusion. In addition to being awkward — imagine a journalist taking the witness stand to testify against the White House communications director — a court case over a withdrawn invitation would face legal obstacles. The courts have refused to recognize an overarching “constitutional right of access” to government information. Instead, they have picked off cases with narrow, specific rulings. For instance, the Supreme Court recognized in Richmond Newspapers v. Virginia that there is a constitutional right to cover a criminal trial. Likewise, federal appeals courts agree the First Amendment guarantees the right to videotape police making arrests in a public place. At the same time, judges have found no constitutional right to obtain government documents or to enter crime scenes that are off-limits to the public. Does CNN’s White House correspondent, or any journalist, have a First Amendment “right” to a press pass or a spot at a news conference? Since the Supreme Court said in its 1972 Branzburg ruling that journalists have no right to insist on greater access than the general public, probably not. That being said, journalists do have a right not to be retaliated against, regardless of what form the retaliation takes. Retaliatory exclusions can violate the law Even if attending a White House event is not a constitutionally guaranteed right, that doesn’t mean the government is free to take it away as a punishment. The government cannot take away even a purely discretionary privilege if the motive is to penalize speech. Even though there is no entitlement to hold a government job, the Supreme Court decided in 1966 that public employment cannot be denied on the basis of viewpoint. And even though there is no entitlement to receive a discretionary government grant, the justices ruled in 2013 that a grant cannot be denied because the applicant expresses a view different from the government’s. In other words, any action by a government agency intended to punish or deter a speaker for unwanted speech can violate the Constitution. That same legal principle would apply today if a federal official denied a government “privilege” to a journalist on the basis of a disagreeable viewpoint. In the CNN situation, if Collins lost something of value, like the ability to attend a presidential appearance, because of the content of her speech, she has the essential ingredients of a First Amendment case. The White House likely would argue that it was Collins’ method of delivery — raising her voice, after being asked not to — and not the content of her message that earned her a disinvitation. That would make a First Amendment claim blurrier. overnment agencies can regulate the “time, place and manner” of speaking, the Supreme Court has ruled, as long as the restrictions are reasonable and enforced evenhandedly. Were a case to go to court, Collins and CNN might have to demonstrate that other journalists have shouted friendlier questions without consequence. Journalists’ rights need clarifying)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The ordinance would require Chicago employers to post work schedules for their employees at least two weeks in advance. Employers would be required to pay their employees for at least one hour extra if the schedule changed or work was added or subtracted. Companies also could face fines of $500 for each employee affected in each pay period if they fail to comply. If employers make changes with 24 hours’ notice or less to on-call workers, the workers would have to be compensated. Companies with hourly employees or salaried workers earning less than $50,000 annually would be affected. That would sweep thousands of Chicago businesses under the new rules, the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce says. There’s a lot more heavy-handedness in the 17-page ordinance affecting hiring, part-time workers and flexibility. Before they begin work, for example, new hires must be given in writing the median number of hours they can expect to work and a list of days and times they will not be expected to work.)

http://www.philly.com/philly/news/nation_world/laura-ingraham-fox-news-immigration-sanctuary-cities-demographic-changes-20180809.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Controversial Fox News host Laura Ingraham is once again the target of criticism, this time over comments she made about the country’s changing demographic landscape, which she blamed on illegal — and legal — immigration. “Massive demographic changes have been foisted upon the American people, and they are changes that none of us ever voted for, and most of us don’t like,” Ingraham said on The Ingraham Angle on Wednesday night, noting that “it does seem like the America that we know and love doesn’t exist anymore.” “From Virginia to California, we see stark examples of how radically, in some ways, the country has changed,” Ingraham continued. “Now, much of this is related to both illegal, and in some cases legal, immigration that, of course, progressives love.”)

— Illinois Republican party withdraws support for Fawell over conspiracy theories – SARAH HAYDEN (DIERSEN: According to my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes, the Illinois Republican Party (IRP), the DuPage County Republican Central Committee (DCRCC), and the Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) a) have never supported me or my GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails and b) should never support me or my emails. My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes stress that I promote planks in the Republican Party and IRP platforms, including their traditional family, right to life, immigration, Second Amendment, illegal drugs, equal opportunity (no race or gender based preference giving) planks, that they want the IRP, DCRCC, and MTRCC to dump.)
https://qconline.com/news/local/govt-and-politics/republican-party-withdraws-support-for-fawell-over-conspiracy-theories/article_f4ccfbc6-d3f8-50f1-a445-1f486039d573.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Republican party officials are withdrawing support for 17th Congressional District candidate Bill Fawell after reviewing alleged conspiracy theories posted by Fawell on social media. Fawell, 64, will face U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos, D-Moline, in the November general election. State Republican party chairman Tim Schneider, Rock Island County Republican party central committee chair Drue Mielke, and Republican state central committeeman for the 17th Congressional District, Jan Weber, removed their support of Fawell on Tuesday. All three officials cite posts on Fawell’s campaign Facebook page, Elect Fawell, in which Fawell appears to support 9/11 conspiracy theories, and called some mass shootings “false flag” events. A false flag is an event in which some believe the government or another group orchestrated a tragic event in order to elicit outrage from the public and provides an excuse for war or some other aggressive reaction. Fawell said Tuesday that the goal of his Elect Fawell Facebook page is to get people to read information from alternate news sources. “What I try to do is put in posts from bloggers that are not mainstream,” Fawell said. “I call it the daily lie of omission. It might be something off the beaten path that is not being reported by mainstream media.” Fawell often posts articles from alt-right-wing sites like zerohedge.com, newzsentinel.com, libertyblitzkrieg.com, and gatestoneinstitute.org, and adds his commentary above the post, often with the caps lock on. But Fawell also links to articles from independent news outlets such as CNBC.com, businessinsider.com, and economist.com. . .In a statement Tuesday, Schneider called Fawell a liar and said his comments have hurt those affected by tragic events. “Bill Fawell has a problem with the truth and his statements have done a disservice to the individuals who lost their lives from terrible acts of violence,” Schneider said. “As chairman of the Illinois Republican party, I disagree with his misguided views and cannot support his candidacy for Congress in the 17th Congressional District.” . . . Fawell told a Dispatch-Argus reporter on Tuesday he hadn’t received any support from the Republican party anyway. “The Republican party in Illinois in such disarray,” Fawell said. “It’s just a reaction to some stuff that came out in the left-wing media. The party cut me loose a long time ago. I’m not their candidate. I’ve been a Republican my whole life, but the American people have had it with both parties. I appeal to the independent voters.” . . . Fawell stands by his comments. “I want to start focusing on the things that are important in this race, not these crazy cheap shots,” Fawell said. “Obviously I’m very disappointed in the Republican party. Nobody has taken the time to call me up and talk to me. They just keep reading all these left-leaning reports like CNN, which is called the Clinton News Network. “I wear the badge proudly of being excommunicated by the (party) of the state of Illinois. Now independents will say, ‘he’s our guy.’”)

— Former Illinois workers sue administration to get jobs back (DIERSEN: Have you sued your employer? I did. GAO hired me in 1980 when Elmer B. Staats was the Comptroller General, but in 1981, Charles A. Bowsher became Comptroller General. Bowsher came from Arthur Andersen and believed in “up or out” for employees who were White, male, and/or non-veteran, but NOT for employees who were minority, female, and/or veteran. Under Bowsher, GAO did everything it could to get rid of its employees like me a) who were White, male, and/or non-veteran and b) who had not made GS-13 (currently $96,403) by age 25, GS-14 (currently $113,920) by age 30, GS-15 (currently $134,000) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service (currently $164,200) by age 40. Beyond overwhelmingly, GAO’s employees who were Republican like me were White, male, and/or non-veteran and had NOT made the aforesaid promotions. In 1988, when I was 40 years old, I became an active member in a class action lawsuit that charged GAO with reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation. https://dupagepolicyjournal.com/stories/511476824-q1-real-estate-sales-report-wheaton
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Median prices declined in Wheaton over last year, and are down 63.3 percent over 10 years, adjusted for inflation, according to first quarter sales data collected by BlockShopper.com. From January to March, 12 homes sold in Wheaton for a median price of $126,600. That’s 57.5 percent lower than median home sale prices for the first quarter of 2017. In the first quarter, 1 home in Wheaton was in foreclosure. Median property tax for homeowners in Wheaton was $6,744.62 in 2017 according to tax data from that year. That means homeowners pay 2.3 percent of their home’s value in taxes. Statewide, Illinois homeowners pay an effective property tax rate of 2.22 percent, according to a recent analysis by ATTOM Data Solutions, which is the second-highest rate in the country, just behind New Jersey, where homeowners pay a tax rate of 2.28 percent.)

To stay with the Missouri Synod, about a third of church’s members, including many of the school’s teachers and my family, transferred to Hope Lutheran Church in Park Forest. (FROM THE ARTICLE: In 2016, Rauner issued a press release saying his administration had ended a “patronage hiring scandal” at the Illinois Department of Transportation. At issue were hundreds of people who’d gotten so-called staff assistant jobs under former governors Rod Blagojevich and Pat Quinn. These were political hires into jobs that should have been protected from that sort of thing. Attorney Don Craven says the eight workers suing Rauner eventually made their way into non-political jobs, but that didn’t save them. He says their firing was political. “This allegation is that these people were fired by IDOT because they’re Democrats and they refused to become affiliated with the Rauner administration,” Craven says. “That’s precisely what the first amendment says you can’t do — you can’t fire people because of their political affiliation.” The lawsuit is seeking to get the employees reinstated — with seniority, back pay and benefits. Asked for comment, the Rauner administration did not directly address the allegations in the lawsuit. Spokeswoman Patty Schuh says the administration has been “working hand-in-hand with the [Office of the Executive Inspector General’s] hiring monitoring unit and the court-appointed special master to clean up the corrupt political system created by previous governors.”)

— Fired employees claim First Amendment violations (DIERSEN: GAO hired me in 1980 when Elmer B. Beyond overwhelmingly, GAO’s employees who were Republican like me were White, male, and/or non-veteran and had NOT made GS-13 (currently $96,403) by age 25, GS-14 (currently $113,920) by age 30, GS-15 (currently $134,000) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service (currently $164,200) by age 40.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Defendant Rauner made comments that expressed his political animus to those individuals who supported Democrats or public-sector unions. Some of those comments were directed at some plaintiffs. […] The real reason for the termination of these Plaintiffs was that they were employed by the prior administration (under then Governor Patrick Quinn who was a member of the Democratic Party) or that they refused to become affiliated with the Rauner Administration. * Pretext… Despite the long-standing policy of IDOT to review and update job descriptions of employees, at no time after their reassignments did supervisory personnel, or personnel in the Bureau of Personnel verify the accuracy of Plaintiffs’ job descriptions or update the job descriptions to more accurately reflect the work being assigned to each Plaintiff. Defendants then used the job descriptions, which were intentionally allowed to become outdated as the pretense to terminate the employment of these Plaintiffs.)

On the other hand, the platform has faced legal problems in Washington for discriminatory ads, such as excluding older job applicants from seeing help wanted ads.)

NATIONAL REVIEW
— Elizabeth Warren: Our Justice System Is ‘Racist, All the Way, Front to Back.’ – JIM GERAGHTY (DIERSEN: I was denied my 7th Amendment right to jury trial in Diersen v. GAO because the judges in case favor political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation. But even if they did not favor the aforesaid, they would have denied me my 7th Amendment right to a jury trial because they believed that because of my terrible demographics, no jury would rule in my favor. I am White, male, old (born in 1948), Republican, conservative, Protestant (baptized, raised, and confirmed as a Missouri Synod Lutheran), non-poor, gun owner, draft avoider, 100% German American, my ancestors have been in America since 1844, federal employee for almost 30 years, union member for almost 12 years, childless, etc.)

GO SAN ANGELO
— We need subscribers to ensure the future of local news – Jen Killin-Guadarrama (DIERSEN: GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails are free. My envy-filled critics/opponents are beyond furious that I can afford to spend 10+ hours each and every day and thousands of dollars each and every year to put the emails together and to send them out free each and every morning and each and every evening.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Hello. We’ve probably never met, but we think it’s safe to assume you’re the kind of person who wouldn’t walk into a convenience store and take a newspaper without paying for it. Asking for unlimited, free access to our website is the online equivalent of stealing a paper from the store. We can’t stay in business if we give our product away for free. We’ve had a paywall on our site for more than five years, but until recently, if you were coming to an article from social media, our content was free to view. Today, if a reader accesses more than 10 stories in a 30-day period, we will ask them to subscribe to continue reading our work, regardless of which source they use to find our journalism. Many people hit that limit early in the month. The change is long overdue and should have been made years ago. At the Standard-Times, we employ more than 25 people, 11 of them journalists who live in and love San Angelo. This doesn’t include the contract delivery personnel who deliver the print edition each day. These people work hard to bring important news to our audience. This award-winning staff keeps readers updated about events in town, attends countless public meetings and spends nights and weekends bringing you up-to-the-minute sports content. They request public records (and often fight for them) so you know what’s happening in your government. They report on breaking news so you know how you can keep yourself and your family safe. Salaries, newsprint, computers, pens, notebooks, smartphones and other reporting tools aren’t free. We spend thousands of dollars annually on criminal court documents alone. That’s on top of hundreds we spent on arrest documents, open records requests and other measures to hold government agencies accountable to the public.)

— Half of American households are still poorer than they were before the Great Recession – Dan Kopf
https://qz.com/1348882/us-household-wealth-for-the-bottom-50-is-half-of-what-it-was-in-2007/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: When it comes to wealth, the poorest American households are much worse off than they were in 2007. In fact, they are no better, in terms of wealth, than they were in 1971. . .In contrast, the average household in the bottom 50% had about half as much wealth in 2016 as they did in 2007. Poorer households typically invest in homes and other physical assets, and put little to no money in stocks. As a result, they have not participated in the post-recession wealth recovery.)
