CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Lawmakers flock to new Obama plaque at Illinois Capitol – Bill Lukitsch (DIERSEN: As retirees in Illinois are ever-increasingly demonized, denigrated, and condemned as being undeservedly filthy rich and even worse things, will politicians start taxing retirement income?)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-barack-obama-illinois-house-20180214-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: State lawmakers are lining up like tourists in the Illinois House to take selfies in front of a new plaque that commemorates former President Barack Obama’s 2016 speech to lawmakers in the Illinois House. The marker hangs behind the speaker’s podium, where Obama delivered his remarks. In his speech, the then-president called on lawmakers to set partisan differences aside and work toward ending the longest budget impasse in Illinois history. That stalemate ended last summer, when lawmakers voted to override Gov. Bruce Rauner’s veto and raise income taxes. The Republican governor will give his budget address at noon Wednesday near the new commemorative hardware.)

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/editorials/ct-edit-harassment-madigan-hampton-quinn-20180213-story.html
— GOP candidate’s parents contributed maximum — to his potential Democratic opponent – Alex Horton (DIERSEN: What motivates you to help elect a candidate? For me, it is their convincing me that if elected, a) they can and will defend and advance all the planks in the Republican Party platform and in the Illinois Republican Party platform, including their traditional family, right to life, immigration, and equal opportunity (no race or gender based preference giving) planks and b) they would vote against/veto anything that promotes LGBTQ activity, abortion, mass/illegal immigration, booze, gambling, pot, and other vices, diminution of First and Second Amendment rights, patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, etc.)

— Five Applicants Vying For Open County Auditor Position (DIERSEN: See Section 3 of the application. I had to give similar financial information to my Democrat superiors each year while I worked for IRS 1971-1980 and for GAO 1980-1997. They used that financial information to demonize, denigrate, condemn me, and then my wife and I, as being undeservedly filthy rich. My Democrat superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates in the federal government were moral relativists who believed that their end justified their means. They were disciples of Saul Alinsky. They promoted envy and class warfare. They stressed the money that I spent on new cars, tuition, real estate, collector cars, etc. They stressed the money that my wife and I had saved for our retirement. Those who had children painted themselves as being poor because of how tremendously expensive it is to raise children.)

BREITBART
— Trump Nominates 11th Wave of Federal Judges – KEN KLUKOWSKI (DIERSEN: In Diersen v. GAO, Peter Fitzgerald appointed both the district court judge, Amy J. St. Eve, and the attorney who represented GAO, Patrick Fitzgerald. All of the aforesaid made it very clear that they favored patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation. Eve granted Patrick Fitzgerald’s motion to deny me my 7th Amendment rights, that is, to deny me a jury trial. Of course, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes used that to hint/imply/argue/shout that Peter Fitzgerald, Eve, and Patrick Fitzgerald viewed me as being someone who was lazy, stupid, bad, and even worse things.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Amy St. Eve for the Seventh Circuit. A graduate of Cornell Law School, she is a former federal prosecutor and private litigator. St. Eve is currently a federal trial judge on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois as well as an instructor at Northwestern University’s law school.)

— Trump Lawyer Says He Personally Paid Stormy Daniels $130,000 Campaign-finance experts said Michael Cohen’s payment, even if he footed the bill, likely violated election rules – Rebecca Ballhaus, Joe Palazzolo and Michael Rothfeld (DIERSEN: Needless-to-say, if you have ever done anything that subjects you to blackmail, you should not seek or hold any kind of government or political office.)
https://www.wsj.com/articles/trump-lawyer-says-he-personally-paid-stormy-daniels-1518585093
— The New Tax Law: State and Local Tax Deductions The tax overhaul caps the deduction for state and local taxes at $10,000 per return – Laura Saunders (DIERSEN: Government should encourage marriage and homeownership. The $10,000 SALT cap discourages marriage and home ownership. My wife and I have paid the marriage penalty big time since we got married in 1978. Further under the new Republican tax law, if there was no marriage penalty, instead of $10,000, the SALT cap would be $20,000 for married filing jointly.)
https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-new-tax-law-state-and-local-tax-deductions-1518542356
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The new cap will also affect many married couples who file jointly more than it will affect singles, as the $10,000 limit is per return and not per person. Some Wall Street Journal readers have asked whether two spouses can each file separately for 2018 and claim two $10,000 deductions. The answer is no. Although married couples can file separate returns, in this case each spouse would get a $5,000 deduction for state and local taxes. To qualify for two $10,000 deductions, the couple would have to divorce.)
— Americans Want Big Government Responsible leaders should now inform the people how much that’s going to cost. – William A. I did yard work and delivered newspapers 1962-1964; washed dishes 1964-1966; cleaned golf shoes, chipped slag, and pumped gasoline in 1966; delivered mail 1966-1969; worked on an automobile assembly line and as a security guard in 1970; sold tires, automotive services, and major appliances 1970-1971; pumped gasoline 1971-1972; collected delinquent taxes 1971-1980; and audited federal agencies 1980-1997.)
http://boston.cbslocal.com/2018/02/14/john-kelly-chief-of-staff-jon-keller-wbz/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: What is the worst job in America? Septic tank emptier? Toxic waste cleanup specialist? Journalist? How about White House chief of staff, the ultra-stressed, short-term employee in charge of managing the day-to-day affairs of the most powerful person on Earth?)

GOVERNMENT EXECUTIVE
— Pay for Performance is Needed – Howard Risher (DIERSEN: Have you worked under pay-for-performance (PFP)? I did during my last 8 years at GAO 1989-1997. Measuring job performance is extremely subjective. To meet their Affirmative Action, Diversity, and Inclusion quotas, goals, and targets, my Democrat used the subjectivity in their PFP system to get rid of their employees like me who are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2018/02/trump-is-even-less-popular-now-than-when-he-was-inaugurated.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Notably dramatic drops in net approval ratings occurred in Arizona (plus 20 to minus 3), Illinois (plus 9 to minus 21), Montana (plus 24 to even), New York (plus 8 to minus 18), and Ohio (plus 14 to minus 4).)

— Rauner, Ives take shots at each other at GOP luncheon – Andrew Feather
http://www.wsiltv.com/story/37480046/rauner-ives-take-shots-at-each-other-at-gop-luncheon
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner and his primary challenger Jeanne Ives continued to take shots at each other Saturday at the Williamson County Republican Women’s Lincoln Day Luncheon. Ives said Rauner betrayed Illinois conservatives by signing what she called liberal legislation, including taxpayer funds to pay for abortions and making Illinois a sanctuary state. “For the last three year he’s lied to everybody about everything,” said Ives. “You can’t trust him for another four years.” Rauner said Ives is the one who is not telling the truth. “Let me be crystal clear: I am adamantly against Illegal immigration,” said Rauner. “I would never allow Illinois to become a sanctuary.” For much of the day the topic centered around one person: House Speaker Mike Madigan As the candidates stressed the importance of replacing longtime house speaker Mike Madigan, Gov. Rauner said he’s the only Republican candidate who can lead that movement. “Democrats want Madigan gone almost as much as Republicans do and this is the time we can bring people together,” said Rauner. “This is the time for a revolution. The people of Illinois stand together and say no more corrupt Chicago political machine.” But Ives claims Rauner had given in to Madigan in the past and would continue to if re-elected. A poll released last month showed Rauner ahead in the primary race by more than 40 points, but a Public Policy Polling survey last week found only 26 percent of Illinoisans have a favorable view of the governor. Illinois primaries will take place March 20.)

http://www.columbiachronicle.com/metro/article_c114f97a-0df5-11e8-8ac6-8326e45b15f6.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In an attempt to capitalize on Rauner’s low approval rating, his primary opponent, state Rep. Jeanne Ives of Wheaton, Illinois, launched a controversial attack ad Feb. 2, titled “Thank you, Bruce Rauner,” which was met with criticism from activist groups, newspaper editorial boards and even members of her own Republican party. “[Attack ads] can have a beneficial or a negative impact,” said Jim Allen, spokesman at the Chicago Board of Elections. “A certain amount of conflict is good.” It is “par for the course” to attack an incumbent with negative commercials, Mooney said, and Ives’ “Thank you, Bruce Rauner” ad is trying to appeal to President Donald Trump’s voter base. Though Trump lost Illinois in the 2016 presidential election, he did resonate with many downstate Republican voters, and Ives is trying to galvanize those voters, he added. However, Ives’ negative ads are so politically incorrect that they could mobilize voters to check Rauner’s name on the ballot in protest against her candidacy, according to Mooney. Historically, far-right conservatives in statewide Illinois primaries only account for anywhere between 25–30 percent of the vote, and the majority tend to be socially moderate, he added.)

http://republicannewswatch.com/wp/?p=14420
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois Republican Governor Bruce Rauner is a lost cause. He’s made his bed with his proven record of dishonesty, incompetence and betrayal. And he certainly can’t expect President Trump’s help at this point. Rauner isn’t savvy enough to seek it in any case. Republican Primary challenger Jeanne Ives could easily defeat Rauner. Ives’ problem is she hasn’t really earned President Trump’s support or that of his supporters. It’s still not too late but she would have to make significant changes. Right now she doesn’t seem to be truly behind the President or his winning agenda. She’s not a Never-Trumper like Rauner, but her support is lukewarm at best, as evidenced by the way she’s blown her most obvious path to victory thus far. History says that mid-term elections are usually bad for an incoming President’s party. But I don’t think that will be the case this year for Republicans nationally. Trump has saved the GOP from itself. However, Illinois is likely to buck the trend. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time. President Trump should be a huge asset for any Illinois Republican running this year. However, laziness and horrible judgment by the local yokels are squandering the potential. Failure to stand with the President against the Left and its media toadies, coupled with refusal to help educate voters about the winning Trump agenda are turning an asset into a liability. Clearly we’re saddled with a lot of cowards in Illinois politics. That’s not seriously debatable. But one would think even cowards would be smart enough to act in their own self-interest. The Trump agenda represents the only serious plan out there for rebuilding America and the work is well underway. Smart politicians in other states across the country get it. Their states are already reaping positive results from the Trump economy. And they’ll continue to welcome some of the best and brightest from Illinois who decide they can no longer tolerate this state’s incompetence and dysfunction. Illinois Republicans have only one card left to play and that’s the Trump Card. Played well the GOP could restore hope to all Illinoisans from Cairo to Chicago and beyond.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The proposal would end regular tenure and merit-based raises for more than 1.5 million federal government employees. Instead, the plan will call on government agencies to reward employees with performance-based raises and other incentives. . .In addition, the plan seeks to phase out the traditional pension-based retirement plan and adopt employee-contribution plans found in the private sector. Overall, the plan seeks to bring employee pay and benefits to the modern age. . .The Associated Press noted that moving to performance-based work could lead to the termination of many government employees with poor work reviews. . .What are government employees saying? According to USA Today, unions representing federal government employees are not a fan of the changes. David Cox, president of the American Federation of Government Employees, said the changes “wipe out due process rights for employees.” Cox also expressed concern government leadership would use the changes to punish women, minorities and political dissidents. “He seems to be interested in political revenge by firing people,” Cox said of Trump. “The government is not a family business that you get to be in total control of.”)

— Federal pay may take hit in 2019 budget – Joe Davidson (DIERSEN: Since 1989, the Democrats who run GAO have used pay-for-performance (PFP) a) to hire, retain, and promote those who are Democrat, minority, female, and/or younger and b) to get rid of its employees who are Republican, White, male, and/or non-veteran. To get rid of me, my Democrat GAO superiors in GAO’s Chicago office always ranked me in the lower half of my coworkers for PFP purposes.)
https://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Federal-pay-may-take-hit-in-2019-budget-12606628.php

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Associated Press reported Trump will propose a pay-for-performance plan for most feds, a notion that makes union leaders seethe. Performance-based pay sounds like a reasonable idea, but federal employees remember it from the National Security Personnel System at the Defense Department under the last Republican president, George W. Bush. The implementation was so troubled, the buy-in from employees so poor, and the program so beleaguered with charges of racial discrimination that Congress abolished the program. Now Trump reportedly wants to install a much broader pay-for-performance system. He won’t get it without a tough fight from federal labor leaders and their Democratic allies. A pay-for-performance system would be a “nail in the coffin of the apolitical professional civil service,” said J. David Cox Sr., president of the American Federation of Government Employees, the largest federal employee union. In addition to the experience-based complaints against performance-based pay, labor leaders warn against Trump’s twisted notion of narcissistic fidelity. “Does anybody want a system that allows financial rewards – funded by taxpayers – to be provided exclusively to those deemed loyal to the administration?” Cox asked. “Does anybody want a pay system that denies pay adjustments to people considered disloyal to the administration? Pity the EPA scientist whose work demonstrates the existence of climate change.” The president’s reported proposal would save the government $10 billion over 10 years, which means that’s what it would cost federal employees. It would apply to about 1.5 million federal workers out of about 2 million. It is not clear who would be excluded. “In reality, performance-based pay in the federal government is a cost-containment tool, nothing more,” Randy Erwin, president of the National Federation of Federal Employees, said in an email. “Once federal workers’ pay becomes ambiguous, it becomes easier to whittle away.”)

https://northcooknews.com/stories/511332446-ives-beats-rauner-in-wayne-township-republican-organization-straw-poll
(FROM THE ARTICLE: State Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton} easily bested Gov. Bruce Rauner in a Republican primary straw poll vote conducted by the Wayne Township Republican Organization (WTRO), 88 percent to 12 percent. Ives also topped Rauner by a better than 3-to-1 margin (76 percent to 24 percent) on the question of “Who has the best chance of beating the democratic candidate.” The WTRO straw vote takes on added significance with some given how accurate it was in predicting the 2016 presidential race won by Donald Trump. “I have always felt the GOP committeemen in Wayne Township have the pulse of the voters,” organization chairman Jerry Marchese said in a press release. “We shall anxiously await the results of this poll and how it matches the outcome from the March 20th primary elections.” In the WTRO straw vote for sheriff, James Mendrick topped Frank Bibbiano, 69 percent to 31 percent; while Burt Minor topped Amy Grant in the race for state representative in the 42nd District, 85 percent to 15 percent; and Tonia Khouri squeaked by Nic Zito, 53 percent to 47 percent in the 49th District. Another poll of all the races is slated to take place on March 8, less than two weeks before voters formally go to the polls. “As always, we encourage everyone to get out to vote on Tuesday, March 20th, and vote for the candidate of their choice,” Marchese added in the press release. “Our committeeman will be stopping by or knocking on doors from now until Election Day to encourage voters to come out to vote.”)

Should I write a book about all the lawsuits and demands for arbitration that I have filed? http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/ct-met-cary-grove-first-amendment-20180209-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A Cary-Grove High School senior said his First Amendment rights were violated when Cary’s mayor came to his school for a question-and-answer session and the student was told not to interrupt, according to a lawsuit filed in federal court. Matthew Ahmann, 18, a self-described political journalist, has been outspoken against Mayor Mark Kownick in recent years through his politically driven Facebook account. In his lawsuit filed against the school board of Crystal Lake-based District 155, Ahmann said that on Sept. 26 he did as he was told by the school’s dean, James Kelly, after receiving a “threatening ultimatum” and kept quiet during the mayor’s visit to his advanced placement politics class. Ahmann, who also is seeking $50,000 in compensatory damages, said in the lawsuit that Kelly approached him after having a conversation with Kownick. Kelly told him not to “say or do anything” during Kownick’s visit “or negative consequences would follow.” According to the lawsuit, “Mayor Kownick and Dean Kelly, working in concert and prior to the mayor’s speech, conspired to stifle Matt’s continued political journalism by having Dean Kelly threaten and intimidate Matt.” Ahmann did however record the session on his cellphone and weeks later posted it on his politically charged Facebook page. He said the district in retaliation punished him by placing him on a one-day in-school suspension. Ahmann said in the lawsuit he wants this expunged from his record because having this “permanent academic record of suspension” hurts his future chances of being accepted into colleges and earning scholarships.)

http://www.wgem.com/story/37472301/2018/02/Friday/illinois-looking-into-medical-marijuana-instead-of-opioids
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The bill passed through a senate committee with a 16-1 vote, with the lone opposition vote coming from Republican Senator Bill Brady of Bloomington, Illinois. His office said Friday that the reasoning behind that opposition vote was concerns from the Illinois Department of Health over being able to staff the additional people needed to streamline the process. If it becomes a law, it would allow people applying for the medical marijuana program in the first year, to do so without a physician’s certification, or the fingerprint background check.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Fox News on Friday removed an incendiary op-ed article by one of its top executives, after the piece drew criticism for mocking American Olympic officials who had emphasized the diversity of this year’s team of athletes. The column suggested, sarcastically, that the United States Olympic Committee adopt a new motto: “Darker, Gayer, Different.” The piece, published on Wednesday and written by John Moody, an executive vice president and executive editor of Fox News, caused an uproar on social media. Some of the network’s employees expressed dismay that Fox News had allowed the article to be published on its website. “John Moody’s column does not reflect the views or values of Fox News and has been removed,” the network said in a statement. Mr. Moody, a Time magazine alumnus who was one of the network’s earliest senior news managers, was close to Roger E. Ailes, Fox News’s former chairman. IVES FOR GOVERNOR
— Ives Receives $2 million from Uihlein in Governor’s Race
https://mailchi.mp/bac28c167b9f/ives-receives-2m-from-uihlein-in-governors-race
(FROM THE STATEMENT: The Ives for Illinois campaign is pleased to announce it has received a $2 million donation from businessman Dick Uihlein. These funds will support and ensure that Jeanne Ives is able to introduce herself to the GOP primary electorate and present a clear choice for those voters between the crony bailouts and extreme Left social policy agenda of Gov. Rauner’s and the conservative reform policy record and vision of Ives. Ives has now raised more than $3.5 million in the few short weeks of her insurgent campaign against Gov. Rauner. “Mr. Uihlein’s commitment to a conservative reform policy revolution is humbling as is the commitment of every donor and volunteer to our campaign,” said Ives. “People doing what they can with what they have is how we win this race for the people who play by the rules and do their part to make Illinois a great place to live, work and raise a family. A state government aligned with their interests is long overdue in Illinois.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: To make matters worse, the Illinois Republican Party is dealing with another bigotry-related scandal. Over the weekend, state Representative Jeanne Ives, who’s launched a primary challenge against Governor Bruce Rauner, released an ad in which actors playing a transgender woman, a pro-choice activist, an “illegal immigrant criminal,” and other right-wing bogeyman thank Rauner for advancing their interests (for example, a woman wearing a pink pussy hat thanks him for making Illinois families “pay for my abortions.”) The state GOP denounced the ad, saying “There is no place in the Illinois Republican Party for rhetoric that attacks our fellow Illinoisans based on their race, gender or humanity.” Unfortunately for Illinois Republicans, a passionate anti-Semite was able to find a place on their ballot.)

He has sent a letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions requesting that his office launch an investigation. “I don’t know that he will or won’t. But I believe that he should and that’s because no one locally here will take this on,” said Gary Grasso, R-Candidate for Attorney General. The Department of Justice could not immediately confirm receipt of the letter. Grasso pointed to published reports which have criticized Cook County Assessor Joe Berrios for giving tax breaks to the rich who use politically-connected law firms to get their assessments lowered at the expense of the poor.)

RIPON ADVANCE
— Republican-led House oversight subcommittee, House colleagues urge IRS reform
https://riponadvance.com/featured/republican-led-house-oversight-subcommittee-house-colleagues-urge-irs-reform/

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Among the witnesses testifying before the subcommittee were U.S. Reps. Peter Roskam (R-IL) and Jim Renacci (R-OH), who each outlined two bills they separately introduced and would like to have members consider. Rep. Roskam, for instance, last August introduced the Free File Permanence Act of 2017, H.R. 3641, which has been referred to the House Ways and Means Committee. The bill would require the U.S. Treasury Department to continue operating the IRS Free File Program and to work with state government agencies and the private sector to expand and enhance the program, which offers free commercial-type online individual income tax preparation and electronic filing services to the lowest 70 percent of taxpayers by income, according to the bill’s summary. “As an added bonus, the program actually saves the federal government an estimated $13 million a year because electronic filings are less expensive for the IRS to process than paper versions,” said Roskam. The bipartisan bill has 123 cosponsors, including subcommittee chairman Jenkins and subcommittee members Bishop, Walorski, LaHood, and Curbelo. Rep. Roskam also introduced the bipartisan Restraining Excessive Seizure of Property through the Exploitation of Civil Asset Forfeiture Tools Act, H.R. 1843, on March 30, 2017, which would limit IRS authority to seize the funds of law-abiding citizens under false pretenses, said Roskam. Multiple incidences uncovered by House Oversight Subcommittee members showed that the IRS has abused its authority “and was stealing legally earned funds solely because the owners ran afoul of structuring laws,” he said. An identical bill, S. 824, was introduced in the Senate by U.S. Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) on April 4, 2017. Roskam’s bill passed the House on a voice vote in September and now awaits consideration by the Senate Finance Committee.)

http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2018/01/30/conservative-jeanne-ives-gets-massive-fundraising-boost-illinois-governors-race/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Conservative State Representative Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) received a massive donation on Monday from Lake Forest businessman Richard Uihlein, who formerly backed incumbent Republican Governor Bruce Rauner. Crain’s Chicago Business reports that Uihlein wrote Ives’s insurgent campaign a $500,000 check, giving it a boost even as Rauner attempts to look past the March 20 primary and towards likely Democratic nominee J.B. Pritzker. Uihlen’s defection from Rauner may also be a sign of things to come among conservative voters, who may be attracted to a strong alternative. Rauner won in 2014 on an agenda of reform, but has failed to deliver. He vetoed a tax increase by was overridden by the state’s Democrat-dominated legislature. Worse, from a conservative point of view, he broke a key pledge and signed a law expanding state funding of abortions. He also signed legislation making Illinois a “sanctuary state.” Ives is a solid conservative who graduated from West Point and served overseas in the U.S. Army. Her only political weakness is her lack of name recognition outside of her district in the western suburbs of Chicago. She trails Rauner by a wide margin in early polls. However, as Crain’s notes, having a sizable campaign war chest will help her advertise. Recently, Ives told Breitbart News: “Any time conservative voters know that there’s an opponent to Bruce Rauner, they’re motivated to come to the polls and work for me and vote for me. And that’s because my record is one of conservatism, and they are very upset at sanctuary policies, taxpayer funding of abortion, junk science on transgender issues, [and] bailing out Chicago schools with our school money.” Pritzker, like Rauner, is a billionaire with little prior formal political experience, although he has close ties to the state’s Democratic Party establishment.)

DAILY HERALD
— FRONT PAGE TOP OF FOLD WITH COLOR PHOTOS OF IVES AND RAUNER: How the suburbs could decide the Rauner, Ives primary – Marni Pyke (DIERSEN: According to this article, DuPage County leaders who support Rauner over Ives said “I suspect there are some single-issue Republicans that will (endorse Ives) as well, but mainstream Republicans are behind Rauner all the way” and “the talk on the street is he’ll beat Jeanne and Jeanne will pick up that hard-core base.” Political parties exist to help elect candidates who can/will defend/advance their platform. In Illinois, if you state that you are Republican, but you fail/refuse to defend/advance the Illinois Republican Party (IRP) platform, you are not a Republican, you are a RINO, a Democrat plant, a Libertarian plant, or a Green plant. You should not seek or hold any kind of government or political office in Illinois as a Republican. Those who can/will defend/advance the IRP platform endorse Ives. Those who state that they are Republican, but fail/refuse to defend/advance the IRP platform endorse Rauner. I served on the 2008 IRP Platform and Resolutions Committee. The IRP’s 2012 and 2016 platforms are little changed from IRP’s 2008 platform. Needless-to-say, I want to serve on IRP’s 2020 Platform and Resolutions Committee. If Rauner wins the primary election, to win the general election, he will have to stress the planks in the IRP platform that he rejects, that is, he will have to destroy the IRP. Most commonly, RINOs, Democrat plants, Libertarian plants, and Green plants reject the traditional family, right to life, and immigration planks. Most commonly, they promote dependency on government, dependency on charity, LGBTQ activity, abortion, mass/illegal immigration, booze, gambling, pot, and other vices, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, abolition of the First and Second Amendments, and even worse things. Most commonly, they are anti-Trump, anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-patriotic, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, anti-draft avoiders, anti-German Americans, and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America longer than their ancestors.)
http://www.dailyherald.com/news/20180130/how-the-suburbs-could-decide-the-rauner-ives-primary
(FROM THE ARTICLE: State Rep. Jeanne Ives’ candidacy continues to roil Republicans as many in the GOP establishment embrace Gov. Bruce Rauner as their best hope in the general election, while conservatives dig in for the challenger in the March 20 primary. And if recent events are any indication, much of the battle will be fought in the suburbs. At a Rauner pep rally with DuPage County GOP leaders a week ago, some Republicans admitted to angst over how Ives, a social conservative from Wheaton, is splitting the party, although Rauner didn’t even mention her name. Instead, he said the real threat will come from Democrats in the November general election. “We can’t have Mike Madigan and J.B. Pritzker in total control,” Rauner said, referring to Illinois’ powerful House speaker and the Hyatt hotel heir who is one of six Democratic contenders for governor. Meanwhile, an undeterred Ives took the podium at Chicago’s Union League Club last week with her own posse of seven elected officials who back her candidacy. “It is unprecedented to have legislators in open revolt against the governor of their own party,” Ives said. The endorsement throwdown ramped up at Rauner’s event in Naperville, where DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin told party members in a private meeting “we’ve got to stick together” to re-elect the governor. “Nobody likes a primary,” Cronin said later. “We can ill afford to fight among ourselves.” Backing Rauner were 14 local mayors, countywide elected officials and four state senators and representatives. But not everyone’s on that bandwagon. While Naperville Mayor Steve Chirico hosted Rauner last week, two days later Naperville Township Assessor Warren Dixon was among those backing Ives. Likewise, state lawmakers Patti Bellock and (Peter) Breen represent neighboring districts in eastern DuPage County. She came out for Rauner and he for Ives. Said Chirico: “I suspect there are some single-issue Republicans that will (endorse Ives) as well, but mainstream Republicans are behind Rauner all the way. In my view, Gov. Rauner has the only realistic chance of winning as a Republican in the general election.” Breen, a Lombard state representative, said “our country was founded on a tradition of vigorous public debate. For these reasons, I’d respectfully contend that the greater good is best served by an open, robust contest for the Republican nomination for governor.” Ives has made some headway in Cook County with an endorsement by the Republicans of Wheeling Township organization. Rather than seeing Ives as a quixotic choice, Wheeling Township Committeeman Ruth O’Connell thinks Rauner “hasn’t accomplished anything” and Ives “has the better chance.” Ives’ opposition to abortion and same-sex marriage won’t sit well with the majority of Republicans in Cook and DuPage counties who are “strong fiscal conservatives and social moderates,” countered Aaron Del Mar, Cook County Republican Central Committee deputy chairman. Ives’ opposition to sanctuary cities also means Hispanic Republicans are with the incumbent, Northfield banker and Republican Joseph Gomez predicted. On the fiscal side, “there’s no doubt the Republican business community will be with Rauner,” Gomez said. The Cook County Central Committee votes on endorsements Feb. 5. “We’re the battleground,” Del Mar said. “I think (Ives will) do well in conservative areas and downstate. It will be uphill in Cook and DuPage.” Cook County lawmaker Tom Morrison of Palatine disagrees. “Consider the numbers of Republican congressmen and General Assembly members who are staying on the fence or actively speaking up for Rep. Ives,” he said. “By his own policy decisions, Bruce Rauner is a man without the base of support he needs to win in a general election.” Just-retired Addison Township Republican Chairman Pat Durante was shaken by Rauner’s signing a bill allowing for Medicaid to be used for abortions. But the veteran political observer said “the talk on the street is he’ll beat Jeanne and Jeanne will pick up that hard-core base.” Could Ives beat the odds? “Sure,” Durante said, “but she’ll need more money and the base needs to work for her.”)

http://www.truth-out.org/opinion/item/43348-when-it-comes-to-elections-there-are-more-options-than-endorsing-a-candidate

(FROM THE ARTICLE: To beat these incumbents took a variety of tactics, and the victories are in no way ours alone to claim. In both races, multiple local efforts formed sometimes intersecting and sometimes divergent forces aimed at taking down the incumbents. In Chicago, some groups focused on traditional phone and door-knocking outreach tactics on behalf of Alvarez’s challenger Kim Foxx. In Arizona, an organization received funding to send mailers targeting Republican voters to convince them that challenger Paul Penzone would do a better job at keeping them safer than his opponent. In contrast, each of us put our energies into grassroots campaigns that did not endorse anyone in the race. Instead, the #ByeAnita and #BaztaArpaio campaigns framed the races as watermark moments and motivated voters to set an example by taking down the incumbents for their racist behaviors. In these times, voters — especially voters of color — are cynical. (More eligible voters sat out the 2016 election, despite the stakes, than cast a ballot.) We would attribute this low turnout not only to extensive voter suppression efforts by the GOP, but also to decades of promises from Democrats who either fail to fulfill those promises, or campaign with the assumption that voters of color are a captive base. It’s created a broad disenchantment that any challenger has a hard time overcoming. Some candidates address this by continuing to count out or ignore segments of voters who are seen as notoriously hard to mobilize. Instead, they focus their efforts to tilt the turnout needle in their direction, aiming their messaging strictly at “high efficacy” or “reliable” voters. (Ironically, these “reliable” constituents are narrowly defined as people who have a history of turning out to vote in presidential and midterm elections. It isn’t defined as the Black women who reliably vote for Democrats at a much higher margin than any other demographic.) Others set up town halls and forums to get to know the candidates, particularly when they are lesser known than the incumbents.)

— Rauner challenger Ives goes on attack during only forum of Republican governor race – Rick Pearson and Kim Geiger
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-met-bruce-rauner-jeanne-ives-debate-20180129-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Ives, who was on the attack for nearly the entire time, offered a blunt assessment of Rauner’s anti-Madigan strategy. “He’s never going to have a chance,” Ives said. “Republicans across the state don’t trust him. He’s betrayed everything that we stand for.” Rauner repeatedly sought to paint a larger picture for Illinois during a second term and to look past Ives, a three-term Republican state lawmaker from Wheaton. He vowed a “revolution” using term limits and opposition to Madigan would take “power back from the corrupt insiders and (give) it back to the people of Illinois.” Ives, who’s not well known statewide and lacks the personal wealth of Rauner, used the forum to repeatedly attack Rauner’s credibility among GOP conservatives. She said fellow Republican lawmakers can attest to a lack of trustworthiness with the governor. Ives contended Rauner’s signature on legislation that expanded taxpayer-subsidized abortions for women covered by Medicaid and state employee health insurance demonstrated that all the governor accomplished in his first term was a “progressive social agenda.” “He told us he would veto the bill,” she said. He lied to a cardinal,” she said, a reference to Cardinal Blase Cupich. Rauner would not say what he told Cupich about the abortion legislation, but called Ives’ allegations “outrageous.” “There are a lot of politics swirling around the bill,” said Rauner, who repeatedly added that “the simple fact is I support a woman’s right to decide.” The governor said his choice to sign the bill was either to “follow what I believe or do politics.” But Ives said the March 20 primary contest was a referendum on “character and courage” and that by signing the bill, Rauner was following the “agenda” of his wife, Democrat Diana Rauner. “This is more false vicious attacks,” Rauner replied. “Madigan loves everything that you’re saying, everything that you’re doing.” Ives interjected frequently while Rauner answered questions, seeking to make the most of their only scheduled forum. Rauner repeatedly asked Ives to allow him to finish and at one point used one of his favorite condemnations, “such baloney,” to describe one of her attacks. Ives contended Rauner was “responsible” for the state income tax increase that was enacted over his veto and that he now was making “unrealistic promises” by calling for it to be phased out. Rauner said he “sure as heck did” work to block Republicans from ultimately supporting the veto override and said he was “devastated” when it and a state budget were enacted. The governor maintained that he expected federal court victories that would grant him the power to weaken the influence of unions, which are traditionally aligned with Democrats. “I’m not going to wait for Speaker Madigan to do it with me. I’m going to do it unilaterally,” Rauner said of his union-weakening efforts. “You watch us boom when we get the rest of the changes made in the court system, even if Madigan is still in power.” Rauner said if the courts rule against him, “We keep working, we keep changing, we keep fighting.” Ives, who has backed Rauner’s agenda taking on unions in the past, said her answer to dealing with public employee unions has been to fire workers who don’t accept conditions. “If you can’t impose your final best offer because the courts have blocked it, you start laying off people,” Ives said.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Accusations of sexual harassment have felled dozens of executives, but in one quiet corner of the financial world, the #MeToo movement looks like a golden opportunity. Companies that offer money to plaintiffs in anticipation of future legal settlements are racing to capitalize on sexual harassment lawsuits. That is setting off alarms in some quarters because the industry, like payday lenders, has a history of providing cash at exorbitant interest rates to customers who need the money for living and sometimes medical expenses. The largely unregulated companies have operated with less public scrutiny than the rest of the litigation finance industry, which provides money to law firms to fund commercial lawsuits.)

— Trump says he rejects feminism because he is ‘for everyone’ – Eugene Scott (DIERSEN: Affirmative Action (AA), Diversity, and Inclusion laws, regulations, rules, policies, procedures, etc. require everyone in America to give preference to those who are minority and/or female, that is, to discriminate against those who are White and/or male. Democrats use AA, Diversity, and Inclusion to get rid of those who are Republican, and especially Republicans who are White, male, older, and/or non-veteran. Of course, the aforesaid encourages minorities and females a) to come to America illegally, to stay in America illegally, and to bring other minorities and females to America illegally. What percent of those who are in America illegally are minority and/or female – 97%, 98%, 99%?)

DAILY HERALD
— Delaying retirement can have remarkable benefits – Bloomberg (DIERSEN: My $51,864/year Civil Service Retirement System pension is only 41% of my $125,325/year ending salary in today’s dollars a) because my Democrat GAO superiors had refused to promote me beyond GS-13, b) because they always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, and c) because I succumbed to their efforts to force me to take their early retirement “offer” in 1997 when I was 49 years old. I would not again be eligible to retire until I was 55 years old in 2003. They had made it very clear to me that if did not take their early retirement “offer” that expired on September 30, 1997, they would kill me figuratively if not literally.)
http://www.dailyherald.com/business/20180128/analysis-delaying-retirement-can-have-remarkable-benefits
(FROM THE ARTICLE: You’re 49 years old, you make $113,000 a year and you’re starting to get worried about financing your retirement. You could take the drastic step of upping your retirement savings by 10 percent of your salary. Or you could achieve the same result by retiring two years and five months later than you had been planning to. This is one of a number of such comparisons in a remarkable new National Bureau of Economic Research working paper, “The Power of Working Longer,” that I imagine is going to become a staple of retirement advice in the coming years. . .The basic result is that delaying retirement by 3-6 months has the same impact on the retirement standard of living as saving an additional one-percentage point of labor earnings for 30 years. The working-longer effect is strongest for those with the lowest incomes.)
