— Brett Kavanaugh’s Nomination Revives Abortion Issue In Governor’s Race – Derrick Blakley
https://chicago.cbslocal.com/2018/07/10/brett-kavanaughs-nomination-revives-abortion-issue-in-governors-race/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: State Representative David McSweeney (R-Barrington) said, “Where I do think the court will be important in the future is the whole issue of taxpayer-funded abortion. I think that will be challenged all the way through the courts.” If confirmed, Kavanaugh could cast a key vote on the issue and Governor Rauner supports the nominee. “I believe he’s highly experienced, well qualified, and I hope his nomination is voted on and approved expeditiously,” Rauner stated. Democratic nominee for governor, J.B. Pritzker, signed that pledge to protect HB40. He has also been endorsed by Personal PAC.)

DAILY HERALD
— Lauzen rips up reimbursement check, then rips Kane board members – James Fuller (DIERSEN: I should write a book about Diersen v. IRS (SEE: https://www.gao.gov/products/463866) In 1974, when I was 25 years old, to get rid of me, my Democrat IRS superiors disallowed my partial day per diem claims and hinted/implied that my claims were fraudulent. That forced me to file a grievance. I won that grievance 4 years later, but by then, whatever career I had at IRS was over. If I had been a Democrat, a minority, a female, or a veteran, my Democrat IRS superiors would not have disallowed my partial day per diem claims.)
http://www.dailyherald.com/news/20180710/lauzen-rips-up-reimbursement-check-then-rips-kane-board-members
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Kane County Board Chairman Chris Lauzen stripped his fellow officials of any chance of embarrassing him with a second vote to deny reimbursement of personal business expenses by ripping up what appeared to be a check for $149.07 in front of the board Tuesday. Lauzen then accused the board members who rejected his payment of collecting a $25,000 annual paycheck without performing any meaningful public service to justify it. The drama marked the latest sign of an increasingly fractured relationship Lauzen has with many board members. Less than a week ago, he spoke with confidence about a second vote approving his reimbursement request. That vote became necessary after an opinion from State’s Attorney Joe McMahon said Lauzen cast an improper vote to break a 10-10 tie on the reimbursement last month. Lauzen began his speech Tuesday with a highlight reel of accomplishments during his tenure. Those include extending a property tax levy freeze in place since the year before he took office through the 2016 budget year. Also mentioned were a 65 percent reduction in county debt and the coming completion of projects, such as the Longmeadow Parkway and the cross-country course at the former Settlers Hill Landfill. Given those results, Lauzen said, he expected to be “given even more latitude to produce even more good.” Instead, the reimbursement denial comes as more “destructive nitpicking” to stand in the way of progress, Lauzen said. Turning over his plans to create new, nontax income for the county with a waste-to-fuel facility, expansion of the county’s fiber optic network leasing, and promoting the use of county infrastructure for cellphone amplification has gone nowhere, he said. “I would ask you to examine your public service you produced for your $25,000 salary,” Lauzen said. “What positive contribution are you making? What progress has been made? I’ll void the check and not accept it, and then we’re going to be finished with the stuff.” Lauzen then shredded what appeared to be the reimbursement check.)

— Left-Wing Judge Eliminates Work Requirements for Welfare Programs – ANDREW FORCIER (DIERSEN: Of course, my critics/opponents paint my Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) pension and my Social Security as being welfare. They would love it if they could require me to work to continue to get my CSRS pension and my Social Security. They would stress my being able to put GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails together and send them out every day as proof that I am able-bodied. What type of work would they want me to do? Would it be appropriate for someone with my work experience, education, professional certifications, and professional license?)
https://ijr.com/2018/07/1108510-judge-eliminates-medicaid-work-requirement/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: One of the most commonly agreed-upon approaches to welfare programs is to require an able-bodied person to work when they can, or at least put forth the effort to demonstrate they are in pursuit of gainful employment. Twenty years ago, the idea was so universally accepted that even then-President Bill Clinton signed off on legislation adding an element of personal responsibility to welfare programs. He even had campaigned in 1992 to “end welfare as we have come to know it.” Such requirements have, of late, been a staple of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, and even a majority of Democrats can agree that those who are able to work should have to in order to receive benefits.)

CNBC
— Here’s how much Supreme Court justices get paid – Yoni Blumberg
https://www.cnbc.com/2018/07/10/how-much-supreme-court-justices-get-paid.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: President Donald Trump nominated Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court on Monday. If confirmed, Kavanaugh, 53, will become one of the most powerful and influential people in government for what could be decades, and he’ll lock in a healthy six-figure salary, too. Kavanaugh currently serves on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, where judges make $220,600 a year, according to the U.S. Courts website. Associate justices on the Supreme Court make $255,300, while the Chief Justice, currently John Roberts, makes $267,000. These salaries usually increase by $2,000-$3,000 each year. A seat on the court comes with some desirable benefits. Federal judges have the option to enroll in insurance plans through the Federal Employee Health Benefits system, whose website claims it offers “the widest selection of health plans in the country.” And justices can look forward to a generous retirement package. If they retire at 70 after serving 10 years, or at 65 after serving 15 years, they qualify for an annual pension equal to their highest full salary. There is also a summer break when court isn’t in session between July and October. It’s not exactly a vacation, as justices use the summer to prepare for cases scheduled for the fall, but it is when they do most of their traveling, much of which is subsidized, and when they lecture and teach for extra pay. Former justice Antonin Scalia reported going on 28 separate trips to lecture and teach in 2013, and Clarence Thomas earned more than $27,000 in 2015 for lectures at Brigham Young University, Creighton University and George Washington University. Justices have other streams of income, too. Stephen Breyer, for example, reported $45,000 in royalties in 2016 from his book, “The Court and the World,” while Sonia Sotomayor has earned millions for her 2013 memoir, “My Beloved World.” And, of course, some justices invest. When the Supreme Court took a patent case involving Cisco in 2015, Breyer had to sit out because he owns up to $100,000 in Cisco stock. At least six, and perhaps all, of the sitting Supreme Court justices are millionaires, the Center for Public Integrity found after analyzing 2016 financial disclosures. With an estimated net worth just over $6 million, Breyer is the wealthiest justice, with the possible exception of Gorsuch, since when the report was published Gorsuch had yet to disclose his finances for that year. His 2015 disclosure, however, indicated he was worth between $3.1 million and $7.2 million, the Center reported. Kavanaugh claimed to have up to $65,000 in assets, which doesn’t necessarily include items such as cars or mortgages, in a recent financial filing, as well $27,500 in non-investment income on top of his salary, reports Money. The house he shares with his wife and two daughters is valued at $1 million.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Standing in the crowd was Jane Pettinger, a 57-year-old college professor holding a cardboard sign decorated with two flags and the words “TRUE PATRIOT.” “Serving your country rather than deferring the draft or being a draft dodger — that’s patriotism,” said Pettinger, who was in the U.S. Air Force for 7½ years and is critical of Trump for requesting draft deferments during the Vietnam War. “Standing up for democracy, making America actually what it stands for again — that’s democracy, that’s patriotism. https://businessrecord.com/Content/Opinion/Opinion/Article/Guest-Opinion-How-to-run-a-positive-political-campaign/168/963/83117
(FROM THE ARTICLE: What’s negative? Launching personal attacks on your opponent. That practice should have been left behind in junior high (or as it’s now called, middle school). Defining your opponent with derogatory labels and slogans. They are not informative and they insult the voters’ intelligence and sensibilities. Demonizing your opponent. This practice only demeans the one doing it. Taking words and phrases out of context and twisting their meanings. This practice should be beneath the dignity of honest candidates and parties. Manipulating your opponent’s visual image is a similar form of deceit.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Cintron was Trump’s driver for 20 years, until the Secret Service took over when Trump became the Republican presidential nominee in 2016, according to the suit. He didn’t raise the overtime claim until now because he wasn’t fully mindful of his right to it and didn’t want to cause trouble at work, said one of his lawyers, Larry Hutcher. “He was always concerned about keeping his job. It was something that he did not want to push,” Hutcher said. As a driver, Cintron started his workday at 7 a.m., finished whenever Trump, his relatives or Trump Organization associates said he could go home, and routinely worked 50- to 55-hour weeks without getting overtime but was eligible for it, the lawsuit says. It says Cintron has made $75,000 a year since 2010, when he got a raise from $68,000 but gave up his health insurance in exchange, so the boost wasn’t “meaningful.” Before that, his last raise — roughly $5,000 a year — was in 2006, the suit says. The suit alleges federal and state labor law violations and seeks six years of unpaid overtime — the legal time limit for such claims — plus interest, attorneys’ fees and unspecified damages. His lawyers estimate the overtime alone at over $170,000.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: When the process is complete, all Illinois companies with more than 25 employees that do not offer retirement-savings options will be required to automatically divert 5 percent of each worker’s pay into a Roth IRA managed by a private financial services company under contract with the state. Employees have options for managing their accounts, and they are not required to participate. But they should think carefully before deciding to opt out. WSIL TV
— Lawmakers react to SCOTUS pick – Elizabeth Taylor (DIERSEN: I should write a book about how GAO’s Democrat employees in its Chicago office REACTED to my transferring from IRS to GAO in 1980 when I was 31 years old. Needless-to-say, they were disgusted, outraged, and beyond furious. GAO audits IRS. They viciously demonized, viciously denigrated, and viciously condemned the knowledge of IRS that I had gained by working for IRS for almost 9 years, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $81,071-$91,880. They wanted me to suffer a much greater pay cut to transfer than the $19,203 (26%) pay cut that I suffered. They stressed a) that my Democrat IRS superiors did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, got rid of my mentor in 1975, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974 and b) that my Democrat Post Office superiors forced me resign in 1969 and disallowed my sick leave requests in 1969 and 1968. They stressed that I was a draft-avoiding non-veteran conservative Republican who opposed patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation. They stressed that I was 100% German national origin, a Missouri Synod Lutheran, and someone whose ancestors had been in America since the 1840s. They hinted/implied/argued that IRS should NOT have a) hired me in 1971, b) promoted me in 1972, 1973, or 1974, or c) let me work there for almost 9 years. They hinted/implied/argued that the Post Office should NOT have a) hired me in 1966 or b) let me work there for almost 3 years. They were disgusted, outraged, and beyond furious that I transferred in with almost 12 years of federal seniority, 30 unused vacation days, and more than 100 unused sick days. They hinted/implied/argued/shouted that legislative branch employees were far superior to executive branch employees. They stressed that I had been a union member while I worked for the Post Office and for IRS and that I had filed grievances. They dismissed, belittled, badmouthed, demonized, denigrated, and condemned what I had learn by a) passing the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979, b) almost completing the requirements for a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul, c) earning an MBA from Loyola in 1976, and d) earning a bachelor’s degree in management from NIU in 1970. They painted me and my wife as being undeservedly filthy rich DINKs (dual income, no kids). They stressed that we owned 1017 East Harrison in Wheaton, owned and rented out 774-5 Sunset Court in University Park, and owned a 1972 Corvette, a 1978 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale, and a 1978 Chevy Chevette. They stressed my wife’s salary and her frequent business trips to luxury resorts that could and did accompany her on. They hinted/implied/argued/shouted that my parents were undeservedly filthy rich because they sent me to Trinity Lutheran Grade School in Crete 1953-1961 and then to Hope Lutheran Grade School in Park Forest 1961-1962 to stay with the Missouri Synod. They stressed that I had lived in Crete 1948-1972 and in Wheaton since 1978 and hinted/implied/argued/shouted that Crete and Wheaton were full of people who were White supremacists, Nazis, KKK members, haters, racists, sexists, bigots, and even worse things. They talked and acted like they had read and memorized every word in Money Magazine’s nasty February 1978 4-page article on me.)

AMERICAN THINKER
— Invaders Are Not Immigrants – Shari Goodman
https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2018/07/invaders_are_not_immigrants.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Democratic Party, along with its shills in the mainstream media, has misleadingly blurred the lines between the definition of “immigrant” and “invader.” An immigrant is an alien who has been granted the right to permanently reside in the United States by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. An “invader,” as defined by Merriam Webster, is one who “trespasses, encroaches, and infringes upon another’s property.” The United States is our collective home and those who come here without seeking and gaining permission to enter our collective home are no different than an uninvited guest who enters our personal home to take up residence without permission. As a legal immigrant brought to the United States from Germany at a young age by my parents, I and many legal immigrants who waited sometimes years to obtain the necessary visa for entry resent those who merely walk across our border and claim to be “immigrants.” An immigrant is one who seeks and gains approval to enter, while invaders disrespect our laws put in place by “We the people.” Currently the Democratic Party, under the leadership of Tom Perez, a Marxist, and Keith Ellison, a Muslim Brotherhood operative, have been campaigning for open borders. They have resisted President Trump’s border enforcement, and many others are now calling for the abolishment of ICE (Immigration Custom Enforcement). One only has to look at crime statistics committed by illegals to see a glimpse of what a borderless United States holds for us. The Daily Wire reported that 92 percent of confirmed aliens in Federal Bureau of Prisons custody are illegals and that 97 percent of confirmed aliens in the U.S. Marshal Service custody are illegals. Furthermore, 21 percent of those convicted of non-immigration crimes were non-citizens and 2.5 times their share of the population. The Government Accountability Office reported in 2011 that there were 251,000 criminal aliens in federal, state, and local prisons. Those aliens represented nearly three million criminal offenses, which ranged from homicide and kidnappings to drugs, burglary, and larceny. These criminal offenses would not have occurred here had these criminals been prevented from gaining a foothold into our home and thousands of lives would not have been lost.)

— Why didn’t the Daily Herald report on Wheaton’s 2018 Independence Day parade?
http://www.gopillinois.com

Why didn’t the Daily Herald report on Wheaton’s 2018 Independence Day parade? Was it:

— because “DuPage County Republicans” was the lead sponsor of the parade? 19 Republicans contributed $2,500 to help sponsor the parade. Illinois Republican Party leader and Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar contributed $500, Judge Jeff MacKay contributed $250, and DuPage County Forest Preserve Commissioner Tim Whelan contributed $150. Bob Berlin, Dan Cronin, Tim Elliott, Amy Grant, Gwen Henry, Paul Hinds, Marty Keller, Deanne Mazzochi, Dave Molitor, John Monino, Chris Nybo, Peter Roskam, Darlene Ruscitti, Phil Suess, Kevin Wiley, and Karen Wilson each contributed $100.

— because DuPage County Republicans got credit for sponsoring the Tunes of Glory bagpipers and the Wheaton North and South High School band entries in the parade?

— because I hand delivered 500 flyers that promoted the parade, the Republican parade sponsors, and the Republican parade entries to residences and businesses, including the residences on Main Street and two blocks east and west of Main Street south of Harrison Street?

— because Republican elected officials and candidates in the parade were Peter Roskam, Evelyn Sanguinetti, Erika Harold, Mike Connelly, Peter Breen, Jeanne Ives, Amy Grant, Paul Hinds, James Mendrick, Grant Eckhoff, Tim Elliott, Chris Zaruba, Tim Whelan, Jeff McKay, Karen Wilson, Gary Muehlfelt, Sal Falbo, John Monino, Nick Nathwani, as well as Marty Keller and the Milton Township Republican Central Committee?

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Democratic governor candidate J.B. Pritzker’s campaign spread $2.5 million late last week to campaign coffers aimed at helping Democrats in the legislature and Cook County. Campaign finance reports show Pritzker gave $1 million to the Democratic Majority fund, which is chaired by House Speaker Michael Madigan and is used to assist Democratic House members and candidates. Another $1 million was headed to two different funds aimed at helping Democrats in the state Senate — $500,000 apiece to the Senate Democratic Victory Fund headed by Senate President John Cullerton and the Illinois Democratic Heartland Committee, which assists Downstate Senate Democrats. Pritzker, a billionaire heir to the Hyatt Hotels fortune, also dropped $500,000 to the Cook County Democratic Party, which is now headed by County Board President Toni Preckwinkle. Democrats are counting on Pritzker to help down-ballot candidates in much the same way that his opponent, Republican Gov. Rauner, has done in subsidizing the state GOP and Republican legislative candidates.)

http://www.wirepoints.com/janus-v-afscme-and-the-truth-about-illinois-pensions-in-one-graphic-wirepoints-original/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: There’s one graphic that perfectly captures the absurdity of Illinois pensions over the past three decades. It’s what Justice Samuel Alito described as Illinois’ “generous public-employee retirement packages” when writing for the majority in the Janus v. AFSCME decision. Alito didn’t use this graphic but he could have, because it makes his point. In 1987, pension promises made to active workers and retirees in the state’s five state-run pension plans totaled just $18 billion. By 2016, they had ballooned to $208 billion. That’s a cumulative 1,067 percent increase. Contrast that to the state’s budget (general fund revenues) which was up just 236 percent over the same time period. Or household incomes, which were up just 127 percent. Or inflation, up just 111 percent. Promised pension benefits have blown past any ability of the state, the economy or taxpayers to pay for them.)

— AUGUST 17, 2017 FLASHBACK: The Top 5 Career-Limiting Habits You’ve Built (And 6 Ways to Break Them) Old habits die hard. Use these six tips to hack the process and break bad habits before they break your career. – Michael Schneider (DIERSEN: What were the most career limiting things that you did? For me, as a federal employee whose superiors were always Democrats, a) I avoided the draft, b) I refused to become a Democrat, c) I complained about political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation, d) I refused to help my Democrat superiors get rid of their employees because they were Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran, e) I refused to paint myself as being a yes-man and I refused to be a yes-man, f) my wife and I gave up trying to have children, we did not adopt, and we did not become foster parents, and g) I became an active member in a class action lawsuit that charged my superiors with reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation. Further, while I worked for the Democrats who ran GAO, I suggested that GAO a) not do work for U.S. Senators or for U.S. Representatives unless the work was requested by at least one Democrat AND at least one Republican and b) that about 50% of audit teams should Democrats and about 50% of audit teams should be Republicans.)

— JUNE 18, 2018 FLASHBACK: Reciprocal Marketing (DIERSEN: GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails drive lots of traffic to websites. Since 2004, GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails have included links to more than 306,200 articles on hundreds of websites. Yet sadly, very few of those websites appreciate that. Some even treat me like they are doing me a big favor by letting me drive traffic to their websites. Some even treat me like they do not want me to drive traffic to their websites. Virtually none of those websites reciprocate in any way, for example, a) by not charging me to view articles on their websites, b) by emailing me links to relevant articles on their websites, or c) by posting a link on their website to the GOPUSA ILLINOIS website (www.gopillinois.com). With only the rarest of exceptions, I do not include links to articles if I cannot view the articles. I pay thousands of dollars each year for home delivery of many newspapers and for full internet access to many newspaper websites. Needless-to-say, I should not want and I do not want reciprocity from websites that are anti-Trump, anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-patriotic, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, anti-German Americans, and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time.)

NEW YORK POST
— Want more skilled workers? Create them – Jonathon Trugman (DIERSEN: My Democrat superiors in the federal government wasted what  I learned when I earned a) a job-related bachelor’s degree when I was 21 in 1970 and job-related master’s degrees when I was 27, 31, and 48, b) job-related professional certifications when I was 30, 32, 41, 45, 47, and 48, and c) a job-related professional license when I was 32. My Democrat GAO superiors wasted the knowledge that I had from working for IRS for almost 9 years, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $81,071-$91,880.)
https://nypost.com/2018/07/07/want-more-skilled-workers-create-them/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: And there’s another wonderful solution: Invest in the future of your business while at the same time investing in the future of your employees. Yes, training is expensive, especially for the highest-skill jobs. And yes, it can run into the tens of thousands of dollars in certain cases. But in exchange for the training, you could require a commensurate commitment. For example, if you need to hire welders, and you can’t find any that meet your qualifications, advertise that you “will train” or “will pay for certification.” You will be likely to attract a good number of long-term unemployed looking to retrain for the modern workforce. By sending them to vocational school with a formal agreement to come work for the company upon certification and tuition reimbursement or direct payment, you are forging a long-lasting connection between your company and a person who could use a little help. So let’s stop all this corporate complaining how hard it is to find qualified workers. The solutions are simple: Offer more pay, and/or more or flexible hours. And offer training in exchange for a commitment from people who will grow your firm.)

Members of Group A are anti-Trump, anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-patriotic, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, anti-German Americans, and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time. https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/jul/7/divisive-label-badge-honor-todays-conservatives/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The left, whenever confronted with a hard truth about its vicious self, likes to run screaming for the exits, calling out conservatives for so-called “divisive” rhetoric and over-the-top partisanship that doesn’t advance discussion or lead to rational political solutions. But first off, you can’t light a fire and then gasp in shock when it burns. Democrats didn’t get their angry-bird buttons for nothing. And second off, being called “divisive,” for those of conservative ilk, anyway, should actually be regarded as a badge of honor these days. Why? The left has been busily dividing this country for decades, pushing those with regard for the Constitution and its limited-government provisions to the side with growing pressure, and clearing wide paths for progressive/socialist ideals with frenzied energy. The only difference nowadays is that those on the left are fielding a level of push-back they’ve not previously experienced. After all, it’s only been just recently that Republicans in office haven’t rolled over and played dead when confronted by Democratic agenda. Winning on the GOP front — can you say Hillary Clinton surprise? — is a fairly new situation, and one that both leftists and establishment types are still trying to come to grips with, it seems. So liberals, apparently frustrated by the fight, have taken with rising regularity to calling such push-back “divisive.” Their goal? Why, to get those doing the push-back to shut the heck up, of course. Case in point: Trump and the media.)

— GOP runs into Trump tax law in New Jersey – NAOMI JAGODA (DIERSEN: Roskam should increase the $10,000 SALT cap to $20,000 for married filing jointly.)
http://thehill.com/policy/finance/395891-gop-runs-into-trump-tax-law-in-new-jersey
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Democrats in New Jersey are hoping that President Trump’s tax-cut law provides them with a boost in the midterm elections. The law caps the state and local tax (SALT) deduction at $10,000, a change that hurts people in high-tax states such as New Jersey, which has the highest property taxes of any state. All but one New Jersey Republican voted against the tax law, in large part because of the limit on state and local tax deductions. Democrats on the campaign trail say restoring the full deduction means putting their party back in charge of the House.)

— Hysteria about the Supreme Court vacancy isn’t about abortion — it’s about reparations – JAMES GAGLIANO (DIERSEN: Who should pay the price of Affirmative Action, Diversity, and Inclusion? My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always hinted/implied/argued/shouted that it should be me. They stress that I am White, male, old (born in 1948), 100% German national origin, my ancestors have been America for a long time (since 1844), conservative, Republican, Protestant (baptized, raised, and confirmed as a Missouri Synod Lutheran), draft avoider, and non-poor. How many of the aforesaid terrible demographics do you share with me? In my defense, my ancestors have always lived in northeast Illinois.)
http://thehill.com/opinion/judiciary/395945-hysteria-about-supreme-court-vacancy-isnt-about-abortion-its-about
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A progressive court would sense our nation’s sovereign borders differently; immigration issues would be viewed through the prism of globalism. Liberal judges tend to apply pluralistic conditions to their considered opinions. Judicial activism would proliferate in the guise of “righting historical injustices” and, in particular, redressing America’s “original sin” — slavery. If Trump succeeds in appointing a conservative justice, for example, the court effectively would rule against any legislative efforts to have America – meaning the taxpayer – pay some $4.1 trillion to African Americans related to the impact of slavery, as David Horowitz outlines in his 2016 book, “Progressive Racism. ”A liberal Court would see this controversial issue very differently than a conservative Court. And some supporters of reparations already have mapped a way for descendants of slaves to receive some form of compensation. Georgetown University professor and author Michael Eric Dyson has gone so far as to suggest that white Americans — no matter whether their ancestors were slave-owners or not — should maintain an “individual reparations account” as a means of “atonement.” This would involve making donations to African American groups. The Trump administration’s Department of Education already has begun moves to undercut Obama-era policy guidelines to universities to consider race in college admissions if legally possible. Quotas, racial preferences, and the landmark 1978 Supreme Court decision to legalize affirmative action have given way to a far more innocuous, benign term — diversity — and been upheld by the Court as recently as 2016. But the construct — reparations — remains the same. While these “reparations” may be well-intended, they penalize Americans whose ancestors played no role in slavery, in order to compensate Americans who were never enslaved. If the Supreme Court’s ideological majority flipped, future generations would be left to foot the bill.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Chances are, you’ve seen the advice floating around that advises 35-year-olds to have twice their annual salary in savings if they plan to retire by 67 “and live a similar lifestyle.” If you are 35 years old and you have just one year’s annual salary shored up, congratulations a million times over — you’re well ahead of the game. In 2017, the median salary for Americans aged 35 to 44 was $50,752 annually, based on figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. By contrast, the Federal Reserve found that the same age demographic had a median $5,000 in a savings account. All Americans, on average, had just over $33,766 saved, and one-third had $0 saved for retirement in 2016. Obviously, the double-your-salary-by-35 figure isn’t realistic for many working people in the U.S. — especially those in their mid-thirties.)

JOURNAL & TOPICS
— Letter Demanding Resignation In Maine Township Will Be Sent To Top Republicans – Todd Wessell
https://www.journal-topics.com/articles/letter-demanding-resignation-in-maine-will-be-sent-to-top-republicans/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A letter which demands that Maine Township Republican Committeeman Char Foss-Eggemann of Park Ridge call for the resignation of Township Trustee Dave Carrabotta because of allegations that he inappropriately touched fellow Trustee Kim Jones, has not yet been sent to Eggemann. However, according to some people knowledgeable about the letter, it will soon be mailed to the committeeman as well as Cook County Republican Party leader Sean Morrison, state GOP leader Tim Schneider, and others. Meanwhile, an investigation into the sexual harassment claims by Jones, launched by the town board after May 22 when the charges first surfaced, will take another week and a half to complete, said township Supervisor Laura Morask. She indicated that one more person has to be interviewed by the lawyer assigned to perform the probe. Morask would not comment further. The letter insisting that Eggemann act on the matter was prompted in part by some Republicans demanding that House Speaker Mike Madigan step down because of harassment and bullying complaints leveled against several Democrats. Marilyn Smolenski, Republican candidate who’s running against incumbent Democrat Marty Moylan in the November General Election, has been one of those voices demanding Madigan’s resignation. She has been highly critical of Moylan for not standing up to Madigan by demanding that he resign. Eggemann is a strong supporter of Smolenski, who lives in Park Ridge. Moylan recently blasted Smolenski for backing “one of the biggest perverts in the U.S., Trump.” Added Moylan, “He’s one of the biggest pigs in the U.S. I’m not silent. Tell that Trump backing pistol packing Trump supporter that I back women’s rights and I voted for the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA).” Smolenski owns a company that sells pistol holders for women. On the advice of the township attorney, Jones confronted Carrabotta with her accusations of inappropriately touching her backside on May 22. Carrabotta flatly denied the allegations and demanded an immediate closed door meeting where the issue could be discussed. Jones accuses Carrabotta of touching her on three separate occasions during township events in late 2017 and 2018. According to people familiar with the letter, it’s believed that at least 10 local Republican women will sign it by the time it is mailed to Eggemann. Among the words used in the letter are “outrageous” and “disturbing.” It also says that Jones has a solid reputation in the community and was slated by committeeman Eggemann to run for the township position. Carrabotta has told the Journal & Topics that the matter is “confidential”. In a statement released yesterday (Tuesday) by State Republican chairman Tim Schneider, he said, “The Illinois Republican Party strongly believes that sexual harassment has no place in any workplace, public or private, and that allegations must be investigated swiftly by independent parties. If the allegations against the Maine Township trustee are true, he has violated the public’s trust and should step down. Until then, the investigation involving the allegations should proceed.”)

https://economix.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/11/29/gingrich-and-the-destruction-of-congressional-expertise/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Unfortunately, Gingrichism lives on. Republican Congressional leaders continually criticize every Congressional agency that stands in their way. In addition to the C.B.O., one often hears attacks on the Congressional Research Service, the Joint Committee on Taxation and the Government Accountability Office. Lately, the G.A.O. has been the prime target. Appropriators are cutting its budget by $42 million, forcing furloughs and cutbacks in investigations that identify billions of dollars in savings yearly. So misguided is this effort that Senator Tom Coburn, Republican of Oklahoma and one of the most conservative members of Congress, came to the agency’s defense. In a report issued by his office on Nov. 16, Senator Coburn pointed out that the G.A.O.’s budget has been cut by 13 percent in real terms since 1992 and its work force reduced by 40 percent — more than 2,000 people. By contrast, Congress’s budget has risen at twice the rate of inflation and nearly doubled to $2.3 billion from $1.2 billion over the last decade. Mr. Coburn’s report is replete with examples of budget savings recommended by G.A.O. He estimated that cutting its budget would add $3.3 billion a year to government waste, fraud, abuse and inefficiency that will go unidentified.)
